When we first bought our home, BWB did an energy audit for us. Over the past 3 years, they have helped us make some major energy improvements to our house. Each time, their crews have worked fast and hard for several days. I have learned that what might look like just a partial energy reduction on paper, in practical terms means the difference between using air conditioning all summer (before improvements) vs deciding our house is cool enough without a/c (after BWBs work in our attic) that we no longer need a/c at all. The comfort of our home has increased significantly.

I do not know how to add this to my earlier posting. Over all, I rank them a 3.5 for this project, but the actual work that was completed I would give a 4.5. We had a very rocky start but finished being very happy with the work that was done and the results I am seeing with the insulation. Thank you for getting my house worked into your busy schedule and not making me wait another 2-3 months to get it done.

Better World Builders did a sizable insulation and HVAC replacement project on my 1960s split-level house. As an engineer, I was impressed with the thoroughness of BWBs energy audit, their whole-house modeling capability, the level of detail in their proposal, and their documentation of work performed.If youre looking for substantial energy efficiency and comfort upgrades for your home, this is the company to call. They handle the complexities of energy rebates for you, and they treat your home with the professionalism and care that you deserve.We had been habituated to uneven temperatures in our house for 15 years, and all I can say after two summer months with the new insulation is wow. The AC runs so much less, and the temperature on different levels of our house is much more consistent. Before the project, I had downplayed the significance of improved comfort, but it is real, and worth it. Most of our building problems were winter-related, not summer, so Im really looking forward to experiencing winter in a greatly-improved building.

Its been a year since we had Better World Builders do insulation, finish our basement, and improve our heating/cooling system, making it more energy efficient with better air flow throughout the house. They did a fantastic job and were thrilled with the results!

Very, very happy with the work they did on our home to make it more comfortable and energy efficient. All the workers share Marks philosophy and are hand picked by him because they do things correct the first time and do not try to cut corners. The project manager is the best I have ever met....always making sure things are done to his standards. The house was cleaner after they were done working than it was before they started.After this experience I will be joining their Home Stewardship Program so whenever I need any project done on the house I can trust that the job will be done right. They only work with the best.It is now about one year later and I still give them 5 stars. The above still applies and our major goals for the project were all met. We wanted better and more even comfort in the house and we can now state that we have accomplished this. Our basement was finished and there is better air circulation and even heat in the basement also. Another goal was cleaner air. We both have allergies and our symptoms have been significantly improved this last year including last spring. We have the cleanest and most efficient house on the block! Our next step will be rooftop solar energy and we will be using them for this.P.S. I forgot to add something on our initial review and that is that they do a thorough energy evaluation on homes. They discovered that we had a slow gas leak when they did our initial energy review...something that we did not know.

Contacted company for a quote on insulation. Response was quick, sales collected data and said he would be in touch, I expected in 1-2 weeks. 5 weeks later I called company to see where my quote was. Was told the person assign would call me back. He had been out Ill for 1 week. Dont know what happened to the other 4 weeks. We made an appointment to review the data the following week. Couple days later get vm asking for information so he could complete the quote. So after 5 weeks they have my money but I have nothing showing for it. I am not pleased and let them know. All I got was excuses and it could be another 4-6 weeks before they can schedule the work to be completed, if I decide to go with them. If I dont use them, I lose the cost of the quote.

Sales rep came to home to give a quote for insulating our rim joists. Measured, took pictures and left. 2 weeks later, still no word. I called the company wondering where proposal was. Rep called back within the hour. He gave me a verbal quote over the phone, which I accepted. Rep came out later that day, went back to the basement to look at job again, remeasure, and take more pictures. He informed me that he had made a mistake in his calculations, and that the price would be almost double than what the phone quote was earlier that day. Not acceptable.***************************************************************************Follow-up to original post above. Owner called several days later to apologize for Sales Rep. He advised me that the Sales Rep no longer works for the company. I appreciated the concern on the part of the owner, and the actions he took. I was impressed that he reached out to me to try to make things right. Still not happy with the ways things turned out, but Im raising my Google rating from a 1 to a 3, mostly due to the owners call, and how concerned he was to make things right

I love better world builders. This is the second house they have done an energy retrofit on for me and it makes a massive difference. I recommend them to everyone I talk to about this topic. Truly worth your time and money and you can trust BWB is going to do great work.

Better Worlld Builders tackled three major issues with an older home we had just purchased. 1) They removed old ineffective attic insulation, sealed openings such as light fixtures and bulkheads, and then installed fresh cellulose insulation. 2) There was mold and asbestos in the basement. Both were safely removed and the home treated to eliminate mold spores. 3) The roof of the three season room was in poor shape and leaking. They installed a PVC membrane roof which has resolved that issue.In each case the work was done in a professional manner to my satisfaction. The workers were friendly and eager to explain their work when I asked. They were obviously concerned about working in a manner that respected our comfort and the potential impacts on the environment. The work area was cleaned and all waste removed and disposed of appropriately.Prior to the projects BWB did a thorough assessment of our home and provided recommendations regarding needed work. Then they worked with us to prioritize projects. Their explanations were clear and there was never any pressure on us as we decided which issues to tackle.

Mark and his team were able to quickly determine the issues that needed to be corrected on our hundred-year-old home. They came up with a strategy that worked with our schedule and budget. The crews that came to our home were professional, polite, knowledgeable, cooperative and kept the messes and disruption to a minimum. Better World Builders was just the company we needed to help us solve our old houses problems.

Josh did a very thorough inspection on our house when all we were looking for was new attic insulation. He suggested repairs within different budget levels that would improve the efficiency of our home, and we ended up having them do a great deal of work. This included attic ventilation, insulation, exterior wall insulation, new windows, removed a rotting walkout slider, deck flashing, and more. There were a couple of snags along the way with the window supplier (which they have since replaced) and I was always kept up to date on the issues as they arose. The only thing I think that could have been improved upon was the communication on what days they would be working on the house. However, the office staff was always friendly and very helpful when I called to inquire. We have absolutely noticed a difference in the comfort of our home, and I am beyond pleased with the work they did.

The job at our old 1931 home was not the easiest project. However, the team at Better World Builders too all forks in the road in stride. Cant say enough about the work performed and will only use them in the future. THANK YOU!

Tighten up: this is not going to be short. Making your home energy efficient is exciting. It gives you full understanding of your home. You become familiar with the three word mantra: Seal, Insulate and Ventilate.Turned out: BWB are the go to people.First a thorough home energy audit: a 2.5 hr visit resulted in checking every nook and cranny of our home, thermal imaging and a blower door test (a must!). Afterwards I knew exactly how my home was performing.Second: a plan was presented. How to achieve better performance, where to start first (most bang for the buck). A well informed and transparent process without pressure. I choose to add insulation to my walls (dense packing cellulose), Checking my attic ventilation (essential to prevent mold, ice dams), adding more insulation in my attic (I opted for R60, above code), and installing better fans in my bathroom and kitchen. BWB is the only company in this area willing and able to dense pack cellulose in walls: very effective, green and with a long track record. You cant get the same results with your DIY rental cellulose blower.Third: the action. The crew was very professional, and worked very thorough. They answered all my questions and educated me along the way. In example: one of their guys was up in my attic for days, making sure everything was sealed, ventilation was not obstructed. What a difference with a previous company that spent 2 hours blowing some cellulose and left. Their team consists of insulation professionals, carpenters, electricians and everything was finished to perfection. Testing our home afterwards with the blower door test showed a 30% performance gain! (Never go with a company thats not willing or able to test their work afterwards!)Fourth: looking forward exploring future steps with BWB proving that an ordinary ranch home from the 50s can be net zero without having to jump through crazy hoops. My personal interest is providing sufficient and energy efficient ventilation to my (now tight) home, installing a very efficient air source heat pump to cool and heat our home. And eventually cutting the gas line all together while producing the needed electricity with a few more solar panels on our roof.BUT: you dont have to have these goals to save on your bills, live more comfortable and in a healthy home. Keeping it simple always works.To sum this up: BWB are true home whisperers and Im glad finding them here in Kalamazoo.
