I absolutely hate this apartment complex. I dont recommend it to anyone and regret living here. Every issue Ive ever had with this apartment has taken weeks or even months to fix. When my roommate and I moved in the apartment it already had a cockroach infestation. Not only did it take an eight months to actually fix the problem but as a renter they try to make me pay for extermination fees (we still have cockroaches). These apartments are truly overpriced for what you receive. I highly recommend spending a little bit more on a way better apartment complex... I promise you its worth it. Thankfully my lease is ending soon. Also I included an image of my most recent problem... a broken sink and garage disposal. My roommate and I have called 5 separate times and still have not gotten it fixed or a professional response. (Also all of the 5 star reviews are fake)
Do not move here. Management does not take care of these apartments. The bathroom ceiling leaked and some of the ceiling had to be taken down. They never came back to fix it and my son lived there for a year like that. We moved out, and they say that bed bugs were found and charged $850. There were no bed bugs when we moved them out. They are liars, cheaters and take your money. There a many nicer places that you can find. Do not rent from here. I would give this no stars but I have to give it one.
Absolutely horrendous uninhabitable apartments. Moved in August 20, never had one day of safe peaceful living her ever. Wish I could rate zero.Been living in Indy for 3+ years now never had so many issues with anybody ever. Unfortunately last minute issues made me take an apartment over here, regret it completely.Worst leasing office staff, no matter what you want to get done you will have to call ten times at least and wait for 3+ months to get it actually fixed. When you ask to speak to the property manager they will never connect you to him. Either they will make up some excuse or he probably is never in ever. Nobody here can be bothered even if your apartment is unsafe to live in or not. Also I have been living with a critter in my ceiling since 3+ months even after informing the office never has anybody taken action. Abhorrently unsafe conditions absolutely. The critter has been running around, clawing and screeching. and also peeing, dirtying the attic probably for god knows how long. After vacation I came back in middle of winter subzero temperatures to find my apartment has been without electricity for 2 weeks. No emergency maintenance came around, in middle of night had to hunt for a hotel room to spend the night in. Hundreds worth of frozen food and meat destroyed in the refrigerator. All this happened even after me having raised concerns a month before that my apartment loses electricity often and they saying its fixed. Also asked management to visit the apartment numerous times to investigate the meat fat odors collecting in my bathroom from somebody elses cooking. This smell has latched on numerous times to my clothes and carpets, and ends up stinking the entire apartment at times. No solution to yet, management keeps saying they are old apartments such things happen.Bathtub lining came off, for its maintenance work was asked to stay out of apartment for 24hrs. again one more day of staying in hotel.Nobody will even bother to even give you rent credit for all these losses and hassles.Other major issues:Absolutely dirty apartment when keys were handed over to me. God knows what their cleaning services were. Had to clean the kitchen and bathroom top to bottom myself.Crevices around the house have collected mold, dirt and dust for over decades now pretty sure of that. Not one appliance in kitchen was working properly had to follow up with office to get everything fixed. Had a really really old microwave funny as it was it burnt the food to black in the center while the food on the edge of the container was still cold. Had a stove oven that leaked heat outside so much as that it would burn you if you stood right by it. Exhaust fan had no filter, realized in first week that is what kept dropping black dust in my food while cooking.Very old apartments, dirty fogging windows which probably means a lot of heat loss and high electricity bills. I live in one of the smallest apartments here and end up getting close to 100$ worth of bills.Unchecked cracks appearing in ceiling.Even if comments say their management has changed and bettered since years, hardly believable thats the case. No matter what work order you place online on their portal as well they just get magically marked completed without being fixed.Have spent days and hundreds of hours not just cleaning and making this apartment livable but the leasing office could care less. Until today Ive never had complaints about any other leasing office ever, but this is some other world level thing you will have to put up with. So before moving just beware.EDIT NOTE: the management that has commented below asking to reach out to discuss concerns also wont bother to respond to emails. Just abhorrent rude and ignorant management. My advice is stay away.
1/Sept/2021Update: All agents are very friendly. No matter what the apartment is, they are people to be thankful for. Thank them for their patience, friendliness and professionalism. The house I lived in before had security issues and I had to move. During the application process, so I was a little rude in speaking when I was disappointed and anxious. Now I understand that the inconvenient rules in the application are not their reason, because they patiently and kindly try to help me. Its Sextons problem. I also called the company, hoping they can make some improvements in time.I apologize again and thank them for their help. Thank you T.D. and your great colleagues.---History message!!! Very inconvenient for the international students! The Canal Court and Canal Square apartments near the school have no such problems.Known issue 1: Only call to start the apply for Indianas AES account (electricity account). Since international students do not have an SSN account (for those working in the United States), applying for an AES account needs to wait for review, which takes a few working days and can only move in after the account is completed, and you also need to pay the rent during this period.Known issue 2: They also do not have a cooperative insurance company, which means that you have to negotiate with the insurance company, which is also time-consuming and energy-consuming. Similarly, you cannot move in without home insurance. These things will not be known until you receive the welcome letter, and it usually takes one to two weeks to process these things, and the lease starts on the second day after receiving the welcome letter. This means that even if you cannot move in, you still have to pay!
We got a really great service by Mark Harvey in making necessary repairs in our apartment. He was a professional, really friendly, punctual and did his work with perfection.
Steve Harvey was great to deal with. Fixed our extremely loud dryer quick. Thank you
This is my first time experience like in this bad, worst one, our washing machine is broken for TWO MONTH NOW, AND THEY STILL NOT COME HERE TO FIX IT!!!!The service staff in leasing office is also rude to talk with. When we ask them about what kind of the new policy want us to add all leasing holder to the renter insurance, they even do not know that! But the only thing left us is to sign or leave. And they told us to sign up the paperwork one day before the end day, even though we gave them the application file half month ago.
The apartment complex is in a great location for IUPUI students with reasonable prices. Was hesitant about moving here because of some of the reviews, but office staff are always friendly and the maintenance is quick to respond. Harvey is always so attentive to our maintenance requests and very personable!
I checked this apartment complex out the other day and found it to be very reasonable price, great location, and the office staff very helpful. I am planning to apply. I visited several places and I would definitely recommend this apartment complex to anyone.
Terrible place to live. Starting just weeks after moving in, I noticed black mold growing around my laundry hookup in the ceiling and could hear leaking. I ended up dealing with ceiling leaks for months, like at least the first 8 months I lived there. Maintenance could never get the issue fixed, and it would take an arm and a leg just to get maintenance to come look at it. I had to have ceiling tiles constantly replaced because of water damage, a wall in the entryway had to be replaced because of black mold, water stains all over the walls, I had serious pest problems due to the water always leaking, and, because of all this, my apartment looked terrible all the time. I was embarrassed to invite friends over. The day I moved out, I discovered an area of black mold in my closet that was at least a foot tall, months after maintenance “fixed” the issue. While the wall was being knocked out, something happened to my dryer (it was behind the wall) and it never worked again. I was in tears some days because of how dysfunctional and frustrating it felt to live there. They are now trying to collect $70 for a small carpet stain. They don’t care about their residents, the location is the ONLY good thing. I was happy to be close to areas that provided relief from being inside this terrible apartment. I have pictures and videos as proof, I’m not sure how to post them.
Incompetent, dishonest leasing office staff. A full-on aggravating disappointment. Run, run fast, run far from Lockefield Gardens Apartments!
Maintenance guys are very good, especially Mike Harvey has done a great job with my dishwasher.
It is conveniently located close to IUPUI but I was unfortunate to get a unit in the oldest building which is not too energy efficient. The maintenance team here is great. Special shout out to Harvey who is always so courteous and helpful!
The maintenance staff does a good job. One worker in particular named Harvey was incredibly friendly and helpful.
I have loved living at Lockefield Gardens. I have one of their renovated apartments and it’s so cute! The maintenance team have always come out quickly when I put in work orders. I also enjoy having free parking. The location is great if you like to walk, not only within the community but it’s not too far to walk to the canal as well. I was concerned when I first moved in that it was so close to the college, but all of my neighbors are really respectful and everyone has been really friendly. As for my apartment itself, it’s a super quiet open floor plan and I love all the windows and new appliances. The only negative is that the residents don’t put their trash into the trash compactor, instead just setting it on the ground outside the dumpster. Luckily the maintenance guys seem to clean it up a couple times a day. I plan on being here a long time!
These are great apartments in a great area. It could not be better located and was amidst shopping, restaurants, transportation and IUPUI. Apartments are a bit older and that brings some issues, but the maintenance and office staff are always friendly and quick to respond to such issues. I am loving my time here. My apartment is a great place to call home. I will always recommend Lockefield gardens to others especially students.
The only positive of this apartment complex is the location. The apartments themselves are old and very poorly maintained, though some updates have taken place but not in all apartments. I was okay with this until this past month where I was treated extremely poorly by contracted maintenance workers and Sexton Properties/Lockefield staff. A worker fell on my roof resulting in a pipe bursting through my ceiling in the bathroom. Dust covered the whole toilet, the bathroom floor, and my toiletries. I had to clean up after that mess. When the plumber came to fix the pipe, they tossed all my personal belongings out of the bathroom (didnt put them back), left dry wall and a large pipe in my hallway, and, once again, the bathroom was covered in dust, which I had to clean up again. I had to spend my break at work on hold with Lockefield to get someone to come fix the dry wall because they never showed up when they were supposed to. Eventually, when they did complete the work, they left dust all over the bathroom AGAIN (which I had to clean up, of course), dry wall was splattered all over my shower curtain, and they used my toilet as a trash can (cardboard and other various items were thrown in there and urinated on). Despite all of these events, Lockefield and Sexton Properties refused to give me a small rent credit for the next month even though many hours of my time were wasted on this and my personal property was damaged on multiple occasions. I understand that accidents happen but these were three separate incidents that never should have happened and it is unfair for me to be treated this way for the amount of money I spend per month to live there.
I lived in Lockefield Gardens for 2 years and had a decently lovey experience! It’s the perfect apartment complex for IUPUI students that don’t want to technically live on campus but still would like to walk to class. I thoroughly enjoyed living my freshman and sophomore years here. Maintenance could occasionally be slow and I despised the construction that took place for a month here; waking up to the sound of heavy duty trucks backing up was torturous and my building’s parking lot was occupied by a dumpster, causing the majority of us to have to park across the apartment complex or even on the street when we paid $250 for parking. Other than that, it was the best place to stay for my first two years of college.
Editing this one down for brevity. This place is pretty tight. A little pricey! anyway, 26+6=1, sinn fein forever
The apartments and their location are good for the rent you pay. Its walking distance from IUPUI, close to a lot of restaurants and also downtown Indy. The community is also good. They also work hard to maintain the area around the apartments. BUT, their office is really very slow to respond to requests. You really have to be after them for several weeks if you want to get something fixed!
They take advantage of their proximity to IUPUI. Management is rude, apartments are old and poorly maintained. Old appliances, broken doors and trims, dirty restrooms. Layers of paint on walls and doors which start coming off in few weeks. Most of all they are a rip off if you want to extend your lease or upgrade. They waived my app fee on my first lease and to re-new lease they charged me app fee and transfer fee even though i was upgrading to bigger apartment and i have been living there for a year paying my rent on time. I have lived in apartments and any apartment would happily upgrade you when you sign another year lease without charging you insane fees. Their rules are totally absurd and their management does not know what are their requirements. They will keep your application for days and then come back asking for more documents wasting your time and stressing you out. I dealt with tressie and she is clueless.Yes, they are the cheapest and that is one reason i chose these apartments. I guess you get what you pay for. If you can afford a $100-200 more just don’t go there. They are not safe and management is not friendly. They can easily install locks on door which they wont because they do not care for safety.
People are usually nice that work here. However, there are always new people in every time I go in. Some of the paperwork is usually lost or misplaced. But hey, the rent is cheap and location is good so oh well
Worst apartments in IndianaWish I could give zero ratingThey fool you by showing model apartment but the one which they’ll give you will be awful.Lots of bugs, spiders, flies and zero maintenanceStudents and IT professionals help yourself by not choosing though university and downtown is near to these apartments.
I really like these apartments! I was a bit hesitant before moving in because of some reviews saying they are outdated, but they are clean and spacious and the people in the office are always prompt when I need something. I have looked A LOT and you just cant find an apartment for this price point this close to campus and downtown.
Ive had such a great experience living here! Maintenance did come over a lot (some of the appliances are older) but we always got new appliances when needed with no charge. I have always felt safe walking here, even at night. It is within a walkable distance to IUPUI, the canal, and even downtown. I definitely recommend, especially for students.
The Lockefield Gardens Community is fantastic! Its like an oasis in a urban setting. Close to everything, IUPUI, Major Sports events, The Canal Walk, Cultural Trail, Dining and more! The apartments beautiful tree lined streets, fountains, and a great pool. All the major appliances are installed and ready to go. Including washer & dryer. This is a great location. Check it out!
Some of the cheapest apartments downtown, and for good reason. There is only one dumpster for the entire complex, which spans more than a dozen buildings. While helpful in person, the office staff do not equally communicate with all signers on the lease – they pick the one they prefer and do not speak with the other. More, the hallways, stairwells, and entryways to the buildings are often dirty and dangerous. The stairwell outside my apartment held a broken window for more than two months. If youre in a pinch and you cant find any other apartments, Lockefield will do. If you have other choices, go with them.
Staff has been very helpful. They have resolved the issues I have been dealing with. Problems do occur. Please be respectful during these times!
Maintenance is fast, if your willing to have to put your work order in twice and then wait two weeks. I can live with the constant ants and baby fruit flies coming out of the cracks in our bathroom. But the real kicker is there are 4 separate sections to each building with six apartments in each. Which means there are 24 residential houses in each building. They offer 2 parking spaces per household. But there are only 30 in the lot and 5 of which you have to pay an additional fee on top of your rent. Its a cheap place to live for the location but dont worry youll meet all of the other apartment complexes in town prices with the towing fees. Spacious inexpensive apartments in downtown, super close to food and campus. Parking is not bad but I always pay for my guest parking and havent had any issues. Staff is nice and helpful and maintenance is usually pretty fast about fixing issues. Paying rent online is a nice perk too.
Been a resident for a few years and enjoy the community. My neighbors are friendly, things are quiet, and the park like setting is refreshing! But Ill be honest, when I first moved in I had reservations...1. Being so close to IUPUI, would it be too undergrady and cheaply maintained? I was an undergrad, been there, done that. There is a young crowd but also families, post grads, and young professionals. There are some cheap repair jobs and the kitchen has a very 80s feel. But anytime Ive contacted maintenance, they have done the job right.2. Locals refer to it as glockfield, implying that it was a dangerous and ghetto? Crime happens everywhere, but in my opinion this is just not true. Always be aware of your surroundings, but I feel safe walking after dark.3. What about the office staff? When I signed my lease, I worked with a different person than for the rest of the process. Let me tell you, there was some intense attitudes and I thought man I hope this is just a bad day for them. Nope, turned out they had a different definition of customer service. I get it, their job has to get old and annoying. After another incident I raised my concerns with the manager and since then there has been some turn over.4. What about the pool? The pool is small and fairly clean. Any shared space can get kinda gross. I would like to see more investment from the owners to repair and update features.
I love living here! I can walk to my classes at IUPUI because its so close. My apartment is spacious. Its basic but everything that I need. These apartments are a lot cheaper than any other apartments in downtown Indy and parking is free. The office staff is very helpful and friendly.
OLD appliances. Only good quality is location to IUPUI.
I would highly recommend. I rented a carport and had no issues with parking. The office is open 7 days a week which is nice if you need to talk to someone. I had a few work orders and they were taken care of very quickly.
Great location, Close to campus & various amenities I need. I always prepare ahead and get my guest parking passes and have never had a problem! Staff is friendly, personable and Jennifer will answer all of your questions professionally and quickly.
Pros-super close to IUPUI, downtown, the medical library as well as eateries on 10th street.-lots of college students so you can make lots of new friends-free parking for non résidents on indiana Avenue-next to the purple line for campus bus and blue city bus(indygo)-cheapest of apartments downtown-maintenance is prompt and gets things fixed quickly-lovely people at leasing office and I got my deposit after moving out!😊Cons-old appliances and building so heating bill is super high during winter on the older side of Lockefield-a bit open so you may come across random strangers at night that hang around the area-packages can get stolen if not picked up soon as delivered
Absolutely love this place! Such a great location downtown right next to the campus, the hospital and several restaurants! The apartments are such a good price for the area and all come with a washer/dryer! The community is beautiful especially in the summer time with the mature trees and swimming pool! Great place to stay!
Very smooth move in process. The staff are extremely friendly and answered all of my questions thoroughly prior to me moving in. Maintenance here is fast, responsive, and very polite. Very close to shopping and restaurants. Overall, I would recommend to anyone that is looking in this area, very reasonable pricing for the amount of space you get.
The are always at your step for maintenance. Love their service.
I have lived both at Lockefield Gardens and Broadway Heights, which are both run out of the Lockefield office. From my two years of experience living here I have had more issues from Sexton Properties than I would have ever expected from any apartment complex. The people who work here care very little about any problems you have and will make no attempts to help you resolve them. Any chance they get they will lie to you and try to cheat you out of your money. As long as they get their money, they could not care less about actually helping you. I would recommend you stay as far away as you can from any of their rental properties, it will save you a lot of money.
Maintenance staff is really cool. When I needed a new dryer they replaced it quickly. I’ve lived here for 2 years and I can’t complain.
Was living at Lockefield Gardens 3 years ago and moved to a different Sexton Property. The office and maintenance staff are wonderful and polite. I did have some maintenance issues but they got fixed on a timely manner. The location and the price is great if you are a student.
Good Apartments, Maintenance requests can take long sometimes.
I am a previous resident of Lockefield Gardens and have nothing but good things to say. I lived there for over 6 years in 2 apartments and really enjoyed both places. The grounds were well kept, maintenance was timely but honestly I didnt need them much because everything worked as it should. I will always count this as one of my favorite apartments Ive lived in.
Love the location! Close to IUPUI and the price is pretty good for downtown Indy. Would highly recommend!
I loved living in Lockefield even though the crime rate was high. When I moved out they charged me 140.00 to spray two stains on carpet that had to be cleaned anyway. Guess they are trying to make up for the people leaving due to break-ins. Poor customer service on this matter.
I am currently wrapping up my first year at Lockefield, and I am definitely renewing my lease! These apartments are very well-priced for their location close to IUPUI and downtown. Staff and management have been very kind and helpful ever since I submitted my application. Upon move-in, I came to a very clean apartment; my only issue was some minor paint cracks in the corners. The grounds are very well-kept, and all the green space is so perfect for my dog! So far, this has been a quiet, homely community; I have almost zero issues with noise.Maintenance has been overall friendly and efficient in fixing all my work orders. I did have some issues with flooding (once from a broken water-heater, once from a careless neighbor), and emergency maintenance came very quickly to stop the water damage. They worked with me to fix all of the damage, and shampooed the carpet in my whole apartment to prevent any mold. My apartment looks like the flooding never happened! When the weather is warm, I do get some bugs in the apartment, but nothing more than the average household would see in the summer :)I would recommend living here if youre looking for a convenient location, friendly management, beautiful grounds, and a reasonable price! Overall its a wonderful place to live!
Apartments are good and I am very setisfied with the servicess provided.
Good for IUPUI students, its economical and close to the campus.
I visited Lockefield this past weekend to check out their apartments. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. They showed me a couple of different floor plans and took me on a tour of the property. The grounds were well kept and the location is close to everything downtown. I will definitely be back to apply this week.
If I could rate less, I would. This is my second year living here and the only reason I stayed was because it is walking distance to IUPUI. Now that I am graduating, I could not be happier to leave. Maintenance takes forever to respond to any work order and when they do respond, they have left my front door open for anyone to get in or for my cat to get out. Not only that, but this is the SECOND time I woke up to having no heat or power in my apartment because maintenance was working on something and they needed to turn the power off. Evidently no one in the office thought to tell the people living in the building that our power would be off. After multiple calls and being told it would be on within an hour, it lasted five hours (at least). It may be close to campus, but it is not worth it.
I have lived here for 2 years and the office staff is always helpful and professional. Maintenance is responsive and does a good job. It is conveniently located close to IUPUI, and is a great place to call home.
Love these apartments working as a nurse. Location is great with 5 hospitals within a 10ish minute drive. The staff is friendly and maintenance is very helpful and timely, especially the maintenance supervisor. Would recommend living here.
If I could give them zero stars I would. Lived there for a few years only because it is near IUPUI and affordable. First off, they randomly would add charges to my rent without telling me that I had to get removed only because I caught the mistakes. They snuck in a carport contract from an old roommate when I resigned my lease and stuck me with an extra $50/month for a year. They do NOT attend to maintenance. It had taken me up to 5 calls and 3 office visits just for ONE maintenance problem. And it took over 2 months to resolve. That doesnt include all the other maintenance issues I have had over the years. In addition to them entering my apartment without permission while Im not home and tracking muddy bootprints all over the carpet and not cleaning it up when they left. Sammy from maintenance has been the only genuinely helpful staff member I encountered. They always find someone or something to blame including new management that seems to change every few months. They dont seem to care at all about their residents living there. As long as the rent is payed, they dont do anything else. Had to call and remind them to do everything while we lived there, including giving us our deposit back. Another tip, if you want to have 4 people in a 2 bedroom apartment, they will only give you 2 parking passes and make you pay for the other 2. Even then, they give out more parking passes than there are spots in the complex and tow you if you park on the curb even with a parking pass. And guest passes are $10/day. Worst management I have ever dealt with. They constantly lose our paperwork as well and we have to re-fill out so many forms. They are nice in the office, but nothing ever gets done right, timely, or at all most of the time.
Very close to campus and in a nice safe location. A few police officers live here making the location even safer. On top of that maintenance is typically friendly and nice.In terms of the quality of the complex, the place is relatively clean, the apartments have a European city style to them (small on the outside but larger on the inside). There is some construction going on currently, however, Lockefield definitely deserves a better rating than it currently has.
The staff at Lockefield really do care about their residents. I’ve had my maintenance calls taken care of ASAP and left with documentation 👍🏽 awesome choice for campus living!
This place is perfect for me. The apartments are spacious and affordable while still close to downtown and right next to IUPUIs campus. The leasing agents were extremely helpful in assisting me with my move!
Lockefield Gardens is a great place to live, I have never had any problems. It’s in very close proximity to many things such as IUPUI campus, basketball courts, volleyball courts, and many places to eat. The people in the leasing office have always been very helpful to me. I love the neighborhood feel it has. There is also a very nice pool. I would recommend these apartments to anyone wants to live near campus for a good price.
Great location downtown Indy near many hospitals and IUPUI. Leasing staff is friendly and maintenance very helpful and responsive. Highly recommend living here!
Walking distance to campus and free parking! Best apartments I found for the price and much better environment than campus housing. Highly recommend!
Spacious apartments with old appliances and no safety. In unit trash disposal did not work and washer and dryer constantly break down. People working in the front office dont care about their residents and seem to always cover themselves when things go wrong. The maintenance workers are very nice and worked hard to fix any issues we had but it takes at least two weeks for them to show up after putting in a work order because theyre constantly understaffed. I personally had two bad experiences at the apartment that I was staying in. First, there are lots of centipedes on the wall and sometimes, crawling on the carpet (even if you dont live on ground floor). The exterminator who worked for the extermination company associated with Lockefield Gardens came knocking on my door 5 minutes after his work order was finished and asked if I was single which was really creepy and unprofessional and it was scary because my roommate had moved out. Apart from that, the bathroom wall has a loud knocking noise coming into my bedroom so I could not sleep. When I went to the office later to let them know what happened with the exterminator, they took the work order paper he had left with his name and did not do anything afterwards. Instead they asked me why I didnt let them know earlier..... When I went back to the apartment again after a month to vacate, I found extra large clothes in the entry hall which were neither mine or my roommates... The office did not believe me until I showed them pictures of the clothes laying in my apartment. They claimed that they called a police officer who would return the call to my phone and wrote a report for the manager; I did not get a call and manager was also not informed by the people in her office and had no idea what to do.... My experience at Lockefield Gardens was the not the best and if safety is a big concern, I would not recommend renting at the Lockefield Gardens because anyone can walk in the apartment buildings without a key.
PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW BEFORE GOING TO RENT THESE RUBBISH APARTMENTS!!!The worst place to live I have ever seen in my whole life!!!!First of all, SAY GOODBYE TO YOUR SECURITY DEPOSIT!!!!! YOU WILL NEVER GET BACK IT!!!!The office told us since the carpets are not clean so the WHOLE DEPOSIT will not be returned!!!! But really there were just some small spots on them. Most of the offices take over washing carpets without charging tenets.Second, by renting these apartments SAY HELLO TO TERRIBLY HIGH ELECTRICITY BILL!!!! In spite of having ever cold home!!! We used to pay around $200 monthly for electricity and the home was cold all the time!!Third, the apartment does not have parking spot for your guests, so, your guests cars will be towed immediately if they park there for only 10 minutes!!! If you have guests you should tell them to find a parking spot outside of the apartments area and walk for half an hour to reach your home!!!!!Forth, the appliances are really in bad conditions, all of them are very old and not working at all!!!!! That is why your electricity bill is too high.Fifth, THE MAINTENANCE IS AWFUL. YOU have to call them THOUSANDS OF TIME and they will come not earlier than two weeks. Finally, YOU CAN NOT IMAGINE HOW THE OFFICE EMPLOYEES ARE RUDE AND IMPOLITE.PLEASE NEVER AND NEVER THINK ABOUT LIVING THERE!!!
Great apartments! Super friendly staff. I spoke with Jennifer and she was super nice! And free parking!
Loved the remodel selection of apartments. Also walking distance to IUPUI .
PLEASE READ THIS Before choosing these apartments!!!!!Mostly international students choose these apartments due to their convenience and closeness to school however, the leasing office people know that international students would not defend their rights if offended so the office people tend to serve the worst service to the tenants!!!First of all, SAY GOODBYE TO YOUR SECURITY DEPOSIT!!!!! The deposit is toooooo high! (equals one month rent amount)! They will deduct A LOT of money for each tiny problem in the apartment!!!!Also The rent is so high compared to what you pay!!!! I have rented a much nicer and safer place with an additional bathroom and bedroom for the same rent price!!!The office deducted one third of our deposit due to a 2cmx2cm spot on the carpet!!!! Ridiculous!Second, the apartments are old! The insulation is old and not practical! SO you have to pay HIGH ELECTRICITY BILLS!Third, the apartment does not have parking spot for your guests, so, your guests cars will be towed immediately if they park there for only 10 minutes!!! If you have guests you should tell them to find a parking spot outside of the apartments area and walk for half an hour to reach your home!!!!! If you wish to buy parking to your guests, it costs 10$ for a day. Hourly parking permits are not sold!!!! Rubbish!Forth, the appliances are really in bad conditions, Very old! Not working properly! That is why your electricity bill is too high. Finally, YOU CAN NOT IMAGINE HOW THE OFFICE EMPLOYEES ARE RUDE AND IMPOLITE.PLEASE NEVER AND NEVER THINK ABOUT LIVING THERE!!! There are other more convenient and nicer places you can go!
Great place... perfect balance between price and amenities/comforts!! Jennifer is the best!
While living at Lockefield as a student at IUPUI I had an awesome experience!!! Very convenient to downtown, office/maintenance staff were professional and friendly. This worked wonders for my campus life.
I have lived at lockfield for over 2 years now and have loved it! I did have some issues in the beginning however, everything has been nothing but great recently. The office and Maintenance are all friendly and take care of any issues in a timely manner. The location is great and also very convinient! I will be signing another year lease in May.
Kristen, the leasing agent, was very kind and helpful. Although I dont live here, the location of these apartments is everything. Near many restaurants, fairly quiet, and also conveniently located within walking distance of the IUPUI and kroger.
One of the worst apartment complexes ive lived at ever. Worst maintenance serivce, horrible rules. Nobody wants to listen to u. U call them to request maintenace and they never show up.
After you start staying hear, you will fell in love with this community. Lot of open space, green and well maintained. Close to campus an even close to basketball and volleyball courts. Manger Lisa and other staff including maintenance are very friendly. Apartments are of good size. Even they have maintenance staff on duty after hours. I have been leaving hear more than 9 years and I had no issues.
Lockfield Gardens Apartment that is very affordable and a Great Place to live. I have lived at Lockfield going on 5 years now and the staff has been friendly, if there is ever a maintenance issue it is handled quickly and professionally. They work with you every step of the way. It is also not like some apartments where you pay per person. It is a great place to live. Would give 6 stars if I could.
The leasing office staff is rude & dull (get some life). Apartments are rusty, old with bugs all around. Stay away from this place. Feel sorry for the students staying here.
Please do not choose this apartment! This apartment is not safe. All apartments are the same in the complex and sometimes drunk people come and open your door. The security system and alarm does not work correctly. and there is no security guard around the complex surrounding. The gates all over the whole complex are open to public. The pool was closed after health inspection once last year.At the first day that we moved to the apartment we were shocked as a washing machine was in the middle of the house with many dusts around it...The leasing office think that international students would not defend their rights if offended so the office people tend to serve the worst service to the tenants! Also The rent is so high! I have rented a much nicer and safer place with an additional bathroom and bedroom for the lower rent price! They will deduct A lot of money for each tiny problem in the apartment! The office deducted more than half of our deposit due to what they call large dark spot on the carpet!!!! Ridiculous! I took photos of the house and I called them and told them I wanna see photos of the large dark spots that they said they need to have proof but all they said was they were charged for this and there is nothing they can do for me.The apartments are old! The instillation is old and not practical! SO you have to pay HIGH ELECTRICITY BILLS! The appliances are really in bad conditions, Very old! Not working properly! That is why your electricity bill is too high. The dishwasher did not work and after all of my calls they disagreed to change it. In addition the refrigerator made the terrible noises. they changed my washing machine at start of our move but they took the door of the washing machine room because the new washing machine was too big!!!!!! Imagine how aesthetic it can be..Guests cars will be towed immediately if they park there for only 10 minutes!!!If you wish to buy parking to your guests, it costs 10$ for a day. Hourly parking permits are not sold! Rubbish! Finally, YOU CAN NOT IMAGINE HOW THE OFFICE EMPLOYEES ARE RUDE AND IMPOLITE. All of them except Tyler who was working there the time I signed the lease and was always caring and he left.Whenever you call them they act like they dont care about your problem and they put it as a work order that maybe after 3 times of reminding them someone will show up for maintenance..The only good thing about this apartment is that it is close to school... but honestly arent there better options close to school? I lived at canal square apartments near school paid a bit more but was feeling safe and the office were polite and kind they were never tired they liked their job. I have friends who lived at campus apartment and liked there much. there is gas there which is so good they have awesome offers... and if you decide to go a bit far from school and downtown you can find thousands of options at much much better price...PLEASE NEVER AND NEVER THINK ABOUT LIVING THERE!!! There are other more convenient and nicer places you can go!I will add the photos to this review soon...
Great community & convenient location. Maintenance is very friendly as well as the leasing staff! Walking distance to great eating places and IUPUI Campus.I highly recommend Lockfield if you are considering down town living!
Lockefield is great. I have lived here for the last three and a half years while I get my degree from IUPUI. It is a super convenient location for IUPUI, and the rest of downtown Indy. It is right on the Cultural Trail, really close to the brand new Kroger, and it has great management. I would definitely recommend!
Good location. Nice place, doesnt feel like your living downtown with the mature trees and its pretty quiet around here for being downtown.
I have lived here for 2.5 years. They really improved since. Maintenence service has been always great. For their location the price is awesome next school and downtown.
Lovely office staff & Maintenance Staff. Quiet community which I absolutely love!!!
I would highly recommend! Great location close to downtown with a speedy, reliable staff!
I have been living at Lockefield for 1 year now. The staff is very friendly, and the maintenance have always fixed my issues pretty quickly!
It was extremely difficult to contact the staff (numerous unreturned emails and phone calls), but when I finally managed to get ahold of someone on the phone they said they would have an apartment available August 1. With this in mind I paid a $200 non-refundable application fee. I then emailed and asked how I could list my preferences for which unit I wanted. After a few weeks of no response, I called and was finally told that I could email a list. I did so and was told Id hear back the first week of July which unit I was placed in. After the first week of July and no response, I contacted them again and was told they didnt have any apartments available until September. I start medical school the second week of August so this wouldnt work out. I asked for a refund for my application because I felt I had been misled. This was denied.Strongly recommend not applying to Lockefield. Try Campus Apartments instead. Similarly priced, nicer facilities and equally close to campus.
Lockefield Gardens is a DECENT place to live ONLY if you cannot find housing near campus. Parking is NOT free as advertised. One parking pass per resident, anyone else that stops by to visit is liable to be towed ($150/tow). I have been living here for 5 years and have had squirrels living in my attic the entire time. (Maintenance has cut 2 holes in my walls to remove trapped squirrels) Outdated appliances. Poor customer service. Thin walls. If you can find another place to live, go there.
Worst apartment complex Ive ever lived in; there is never anywhere close to your apartment to park, staff is rude, stuff is always broken (my hot water has stopped working 3 times in the past 4 months). Only living here because of how close it is to IUPUI but will definitely be moving as soon as my lease is up.
I’ve lived here about for about two years now. I’ve stayed this long because I need to be by IUPUI and it’s the cheapest. The good:Great locationCheapLarge apartmentsPoolW/d in unitSafe neighborhoodThe bad:I’ve had multiple packages stolen, most likely by my neighbors.Maintenance never receives my work orders on the first try.The apartments aren’t in great shape. One window doesn’t close all the way, one door has too many coats of paint so it won’t latch, dish washer was broken, etc.The security alarm is fake - it just rings, it doesn’t call for security.Only one parking spot per apartment.
I never lived here, but I did visit. I found a lot of things wrong with my visit. To begin, the leasing agent that showed me around was extremely pushy. He asked me to sign a lease that day otherwise the apartment I was interested in would be gone in a few hours. Ok...? Then I saw the model apartment and it was awful looking. The name of each room was posted on the door in big, ugly, bold lettering. The decor of the model was not appealing. On the living room wall, there was a mural of a dress or something. Plus, all kitchen appliances were from the 80s. This is one of the things the leasing agent plainly told me. But with older appliances, you have to figure that your electric bill is going to be higher. I was shown this model with a family. The family inquired why the outside of the building didnt have locks and the agent said they have been asking for years to have locks on, but it isnt really an important matter. That kind of helped me to seal the deal on not leasing here. If putting locks on the outside of the building to keep residents extra safe isnt important, then fixing appliances, stopping leaks, fixing A/C, etc isnt going to be important either. I ultimately did not lease here. Reading other reviews helped me make that choice too. The price of the apartment is cheap compared to other downtown apartments, but it isnt worth it. I actually live 13mins outside of downtown Indy and my rent is a tad more expensive, but I get way more than this complex could have offered. Please look elsewhere when considering.
Horrible communication and attitude from every person i spoke with in the leasing office.
Great location and management! Definitely recommend these apartments.
Lockefield is great for the price. Ive been here two years, one year on the old side and one on the new. The insulation on the old side sucks, but other than that, really no issues for the cheapest place close to campus. The new side has been great, honestly I love it and the location and price are hard to beat. The management kinda sucks, they never know whats going on and they make even the most simple of issues so difficult. But honestly its not the worst, just accept that the high turnover of the office will have you explaining things multiple times. Living here is great, I can deal with some iffy management in exchange for a nice cheap place. I would live here again!
Pros- close to IUPUICons- horrible staff that dont accommodate any tenant requests- parking - you need to show you own a car and have a drivers license to be able to park here. You do not get a spot for parking being a resident, so if you dont own a car and bring in a rental car to park overnight/have a visitor park for a few hours, they will still tow it.- poor uneven heating in apartment- expensive
Nice place to live in
I used to live here from 2008 - 2013.The rent was the relatively slightly cheaper than the other downtown apartments and its proximity to IUPUI made it easy to walk to school everyday.I do have legitimate concerns about the apartment. It is not safe place. Several apartments have been broken into, including mine. Bike thefts and car break ins are not uncommon either. Homeless people are free to walk through at their leisure. The apartment management does not accept packages, so your deliveries are left at the door step. Ive only had one package stolen, but considering anyone can walk into your building, I consider myself lucky.Management is hit or miss. For the most part they can be friendly. Jason was the only amazing person. One time I when I stated dissatisfaction with with continuous poor maintenance, the manager stated that I dont have to live here if I dont want to. A few have been downright rude.Maintenance is awful. All the appliances, especially the washers and dryers are on their last legs. If something goes wrong, get ready to wait a long time. Also, it frequently took me 10 to 15 trips to the office to get something fixed. This is not an exaggeration. One time the dryer was making super loud noises and they tried to pass it off for normal. After I put the faulty appliance on YouTube, repairs were forth coming. You can find this video by searching Lockefield Gardens Dryer. By the way, I need to remind you that my family and I have occupied at least five different apartments in the past five years, so I cant be told these are isolated incidents.Long story short, if you like walking to school and you half thick skin, Lockefield Gardens is for you. Otherwise, spend some extra bucks and find a better place.
I lived in a two-bedroom on the city side for two years with almost no problem. However, in only two months in a one-bedroom on the park side there have been:Giant centipedes - which sting - that continue to show up no matter how often you have pest control spray for them. Occasionally ants and gnats show up for added variety.LEAKS. Day one of move-in I noticed a leak in the bedroom. I called and submitted multiple maintenance requests, leaving many messages with the leasing office. One month of calls, and nothing done. Best I ever got was So sorry, well make sure its taken care of, followed by weeks of nothing happening. The result - during the last big storm the leak spread from the bedroom into the kitchen, hallway, and bathroom. HUGE chunks of the ceiling and wall have fallen, my smoke detector is barely hanging from the ceiling, the floor (and my clothing, laptop, diploma, and bed) were absolutely soaked, and water now seeps underneath the windows with every light rain. As the leaks came pouring in, so too came the mold. Lots of mold. The towels I used in cleanup had to be all thrown away, as did a number of personal items, simply because they were that nasty after cleanup. Still no call or email from leasing on when I can expect to put away my saucepans from the hallway.Other honorable mentions for reasons NOT to live here: the trash is usually completely full and smells foul, its advertised as a gated community but anyone can walk in from two large entrances and the buildings arent locked, there is no pick up for packages (good luck not having them stolen from in front of your door). All in all, an abysmal and run down apartment complex that isnt worth half what you will pay for it. If you have no other option but to live here, my deepest sympathies - be sure to request the city side to spare your sanity and pocketbook.
Very slow to fix things, and the same things keep breaking over and over.
Lockfield manages the Koehne commons, this is not easily found unless you go to their office. The Commons is not a bad location; however, my neighbors suffered many issues, including but not limited to: air conditioner never fixed, light switches never fixed, flooding from neighbor above, and assorted other offenses. Personally, maintenance is was slow to fix blinds, but quick to fix a drain leak, the cabinets are in poor shape, there is often a smell of smoke coming through the vent in the bathroom as people in the building are too lazy to go outside. The maintenance staff have always been kind, and helpful. Finally, bugs are a slight issue as any place right off the river will have. The pros of this place: 1 mile from the campus center. Manageable price. Comfortable size, Manageable utilities, and free parking. The cons: VERY near the bad neighbor hood, west side of the river, some neighbor issues, and slow maintenance. Not the best location I have lived in; however, not the worst location to live either.EDIT:They raise rent every year for this location. They did not send notice of the extreme extra charge for paying to continue to live in the location beyond the lease time period, but then charged 150 extra per month. The washers are not cared for properly. The management is not helpful. Do not live here unless you have to do so. It is by the river and thus bugs are an issue (roaches) if you live here invest in bug spray.
I would honestly give this apartment complex half a star but obviously I cant do that. I have lived in two different apartments in this complex and both have had the same issues. Do not expect everything in the apartment to work especially the toilets and dishwashers. The management is so bad and unorganized. I say this because they will constantly lie to you about when they are going to fix anything. In one single day they managed to lie 4 different times about when they were going to fix my appliances and one is still not working to this day.
It is absolutely terrible. They do not care about fixing things. Right when I moved in the front half of the apartment did not have any electricity, the washing machine wouldnt work, and none of the outlets in either bathroom worked. I called and put in a maintenance order, they came and said it was fixed however not one of the issues were fixed. It has now been 3 weeks and only one of the problems have been fixed. The apartments severely need updating as everything seems like it hasnt been updated since the 1960s. They do not care about residents at all and I am convinced that the only reason they are still in business is because it is close to IUPUI, cheaper than the other alternatives around campus, and people do not know what they are getting into. Overall, do not move here it is terrible to say the least.
The absolute worst experience.I stayed at the apartments for over a year during the course of which we had a human being fall through the roof!! Not one apology from the management team!!We also have stains in the carpet because our air conditioner collected water and when the maintenance arrived to change out the device he spilled the dirty water all over the carpet. No one was sent to clean the carpet. Of course- no apology!Further, after moving out not only did they keep my entire security deposit they also sent me a bill for $180.The management team at the office is extremely rude, unprofessional and downright unhelpful.I would never recommend this venue to anyone.Yes it is slightly cheaper when compared to other downtown apartments but its NOT worth it!!I cannot stress enough what a terrible experience this wasStay away is my advice !.
The matinance staff is awesome here!
Living here wasnt always comfortable, but Im still grateful to have had a place to live. Some of the employees were kind and maintenance workers were kind, but the manager was not the very helpful towards maintenance issues (my apartment was once flooded but I was not offered a change in room. washer machine never worked for the duration of my lease although the manager claimed it would he fixed.) The manager would rarely respond to phone calls or e-mails if at all.
