The only good thing about this place is the location. I wasn’t even a picky tenant before moving in here but I could, and basically have, created a spreadsheet of issues that this apartment complex has. Firstly, there’s a new manager/assistant every other week. I’m not kidding. You will never know who to expect in the office. Also, the move-in promotions that are offered will not be applied. The apartments are not safe. There’s about 5 cars abandoned in the parking garage at any given time. There’s continual break-ins and the security cameras have been torn off several times. The gate is also continuously out of service which might contribute to the aforementioned problems. MOST IMPORTANTLY maintenance is awful!!! Not a single one of my maintenance requests has been fulfilled—as a matter of fact, they came into my apartment and made things worse. We went without A/C for a month and when they came in to fix it, they torched the walls and created a hole in the ceiling that has been there for 6 months, at the time of typing this. If you have any doubts, do NOT move in here. A 12 month lease is too long!!
Honestly the only good thing about this place is location. Everything else is terrible! I’ve had many issues in my apartment like ceiling leaks, flooding and mold. My issues have been addressed in a timely manner but ceiling leaks happen way too often. Safety and security are my major concerns. My truck was stolen out of the parking garage September 2020 and the property had no working security cameras. Looks like they’ve finally added cameras, but that’s not gonna stop the thieves anyway. Many vehicles have been stolen at this property. A lot of car break-ins, theft of wheels and theft of catalytic converters. If you consider moving here make sure you’re vehicle has full coverage.
Ive lived in many different apartments throughout the country and by far this place has the worst management. They will have you come to the office to fill out information for your reserved parking spot, then they will loose that information and tow your car. Also most of the time their not in the office during office hours.
CONS: have been living here for 6mos and i’ve had issues since DAY 1. the last tenants trash was in all the drawers, the dishwasher doesn’t work, my tub jets don’t work, my trash disposal doesn’t work, hair all in the drains from past tenants that i had to clean, carpet smelled like cigarettes, i could go on. my first week here, i had to create a word document of a list of all the things wrong with my unit and sent it to management to fix and only half of it has been taken care of... i’ve been waiting 6 months and NOTHING. at least they put my door back on it’s hinges - thank god!PROS: when i got furloughed back in january because of the pandemic, management was very understanding and really did help me out with rent. i really did appreciate that a lot.
I highly recommend this apartment complex. It is very beautiful and has many cool perks. The management staff made my move in extremely easy and stress free.
Good place to stay but things changed when the new management took over. Due to job change i have moved to Chicago breaking my lease and paying the lease breakage in May 2020. And i never received the final statement and the refundable deposit back. Called the leasing office so many times and all the time i receive an answer that the manger is not available as she is busy with other apartment community. I wonder how the manager is not available to respond back for more than 4 months...
Im a new resident and I havent actually moved in yet - but for those of you struggling through the apartment hunt I cannot recommend The Grove at White Oak enough! I had a terrible experience at my last apartment complex - both with the property and the management - because of this it made me a little gun shy looking for something new. Yaz and her whole staff made me feel incredibly welcome from the moment I walked in! After seeing a unit and the property I absolutely fell in love. Once I applied The office staff bent over backwards to help me get the perfect unit with a price that worked for me. And throughout the entire process they were helpful and available to answer any question I had. If youre looking for a place where you feel like more than a number to the leasing agent and like they actually care you cant go wrong with The Grove at White Oak!
I toured here and Janie was outstanding I vaunt wait time live here! She answered all my questions and then some. She is outstanding if you are looking ask for Jamie!
The management has changed several times so any comments you read about the quality of management could easily be outdated by the time you sign your lease. The complex has very little security and the wheels of at least 4 vehicles have been stolen recently. When I asked if the complex would be improving security or installing cameras they didnt provide an answer and suggest I pay an extra monthly fee for a dedicated parking spot.Ive received surprise charges and mislabeled late fees because the rent payment tool is a 3rd Party System that they have no control over. The market for apartments in Houston is too good for you to willingly rent here.
New management staff is great. I honestly think they try but unfortunately the living conditions have declined drastically. Gates often not in working order or unsecured, seen several rough looking guys roaming around at night, trash and landscaping in bad condition, exposed electrical and lighting on the ground, auto repairs in parking lot.. Not worth the cost to live hear. Use to be a great place with lots of community activities. Not anymore.
Im not going to give a 1 star because the neighbors havent been a problem and for the most part, this complex is quiet. That said, the maintenance and management of this apartment complex have been a nightmare since we moved in a year ago.I work in online marketing, so I understand the importance of google reviews for businesses and how disastrous low reviews can be, so I purposefully do not post poor reviews but this experience has warranted this review as I would like to have others avoid the headache we have experienced in the past year. When we moved in, the screen door for the sliding glass door to the patio and the privacy screens for two of our windows (and were on the second floor) were either broken or completely missing. We have put in multiple requests to have them replaced over the past year, and two management companies later, we still havent had them replaced. Our toilet needed to be replaced, as we couldnt flush our toilet and/or the toilet would flood our bathroom and we werent aware we had had maintenance completed, that our toilet was replaced, no communication whatsoever that anyone had been in our home until we saw dirty rubber gloves and debris on the floor. After a week or so of no communication around resolving our issue, no one mentioned a thing, nor left a note on the counter to let us know that (A) they had entered our apartment or (B) what had been completed. We had to find out by seeing dirty rubber gloves and debris on the floor of our bathroom. We called maintenance because there was a leak in our HVAC unit that could be heard at all times. When we opened the HVAC unit, it appeared to look like mold. We called it in and were told there was nothing to worry about and to clean it with a little bleach. Most recently, our hot water heater went out because it needed to be replaced. It took OVER A WEEK to get this issue resolved and we had to literally follow the maintenance men around to get the attention of our apartment complex management team. Were not unreasonable people, we live a quiet life, and we felt we had to take this extreme measure to just take a hot shower in our apartment for the first time in over a week. While attempting to get this issue resolved, our carpet, washer and dryer, and floors were covered in water and debris. Ive never lived in a place where maintenance leaves a mess after they enter your home. This is the second time now that weve experienced maintenance leaving a mess in our home and are bringing this up because we are worried we will be held liable for replacing these things when we move out.I understand that were in Houston, during the coronavirus pandemic, and we are extremely empathetic to our maintenance men for risking their safety and health to help our community. That said, I am extremely disappointed that our experience with this apartment complex has been what it is. The area is great, the neighbors are nice and look out for each other, its a great, dog-friendly community. But God help you if your apartment runs into any maintenance.
Please review recent reviews (of people who have lived here and not just toured/signed) to get an accurate representation of what’s its like to live here. The quality of life has decreased significantly within the last 2 years.Short Version: I’ve lived here for 1.5 years and I could not recommend anyone to live here even if it was free. My reasoning: Management, Safety/Security, Health due to mold, and more.To note, I am not the only apartment that has had this issue. Multiple other units have had these same problems. Please see pictures attached to verify my statements.Longer Version (it’s worth the read and broken up into sections)Flooding/Mold:*Walls and flooring have not been replaced meaning there is mold growing from all the leftover water over the course of 6 days total. Inches of sitting water* My apartment has flooded twice from a problem with the pipes in the wall. Each time for 3 days with no contact/assistance from maintenance or management. Meaning I was calling the emergency line 8-10 times a day and soaking up water the best I could for days, we couldn’t sleep. The flood wasn’t caused from weather but poor plumbing. Furniture, rugs, towels and blankets ruined. When I say flooded, I mean inches of water (see videos/pictures attached). My ceiling above my dining room has leaked 6 times from the above a/c unit, they started to paint over the mold instead of actually replace the drywall.*The video of the little puddle running across the entire living room, was after I made the mistake of taking a 30 minute nap after 2 days of no sleep because I was constantly ringing out towels. With a towel and blanket barrier.Security/Safety:Tires are stolen off of vehicles weekly! Last night a whole car was stolen. When the cameras were working we were told “it’s too many hours of footage to go through” (between 9pm and 6am). This week they admitted that the cameras aren’t even working! Both gates, front and garage, are constantly broken. They are left open for 4-5 days at a time, 24 hours a day. Increasing break ins. I complained about it and they said they will have their courtesy officer patrol more and I did not see him once.Management:I have lived here even since the change in management with Barvins employees. Nothing had changed, in my opinion they became worse. Within 1.5 years management companies have changed 3 times and management heads are ever changing that each week you’re talking to a new person. You’ll constantly be having people in training or temps who can’t do much. The amount of excuses I’ve received about break-ins, flooding, and pests is ridiculous. I just want to hear “we’re doing our best to fix it” instead of “we’ll even if the gate is working it won’t stop break ins so it doesn’t matter”.For your sake I hope you are able to find another living space! Good luck!!
I moved in at the end of March and thus far, I love it. Sasha was incredibly responsive and helpful during my entire move-in process. This place was the best fit for me as I have two very large dogs that wouldnt have been welcome in most other complexes. Its a very peaceful place to call home.
Been here for almost a year and getting ready to renew. We love the location. The price is the best bang for your buck for the area. Favorite parts of the complex: 1) 2 dog parks inside the complex. 2) Easy access to the TC Jester Bike trail. 3) Friendly people seems to live here throughout. 4) They offer bike rentals at your convenience. However, staff has been difficult to get a hold of in the past. Lately theyve been better.
The management team is amazing! Sasha made the moving process such a breeze. The complex is beautiful with adequate parking and my unit was move in ready with no issues. The location is perfect. They also have the best pet policy around.
Went to this place to get more information and I guess the lady didn’t even wanted to talk or walk or even move. Terrible first impression. Can’t even imagine what is like after someone’s signs the lease.
Love this apartment complex, staff is friendly. Ive been living here for the past 4 months and its been a good experience. Anytime I had maintenance issue, they fix it right away. They usually come 1-2 days. If you need something fix right away, (you must call let them know) theyll do their best to come sooner. The office manager is wonderful and friendly :). The rent is a good price for the area. I would recommend anyone to live here :).
The office is completely rude. Once you sign the lease they dont care about you. Great area horrible service.
I went to bayou park apartments first and got the worst lazy service so I was feeling a little annoyed and discouraged with the houaHou heat as well only left to walk in the office of the grove apartments to see a great smile and friendly face . Sasha was amazing! The process was smooth she gave me a tour and I signed up immediately! Even after I moved in she still continue to smile. The people in the office are professional and great to work with . Very nice community in the heights
Current resident, would not recommend anyone moving here unless this is your last option. Broken appliances, broken water heater, water outages, maintenance staff leaving mud and flooding apartment then leaving for the day. Would leave 0 stars if I could.
Do not move here! We have lived here since 2016 and it was great up until The Barvin Group took over. We miss the previous leasing office management and when Sasha ran things. At least Sasha was cooperative and helpful with everything. However, Yazmin and some of the other folks have been quite difficult to work with and various residents have had issues with their packages. WARNING that they do not accept packages so if a package is left at the Hub for a while, it will be returned. The Barvin Group does a TERRIBLE job managing this property. We hope to have the previous company back or at least friendlier staff.P.S- The AC units go out every once in a while (I’m assuming bc these are old). We lived in a unit on the 3rd floor in this complex and it was terrible during summer months. Now we are on the 2nd floor and facing similar issues w the AC but not as bad, I guess. The things I do like about this complex are: the 2 big dog parks, immediate access to the white oak bayou trail, walking distance from Walgreens, and some cool neighbors we’ve met over the years.Heres a summary of our experience outlined below....Cons:Security - Do not move here unless you want your tires stolen or your car broken into. The gate at the parking garage has been broken for a while, weve put in an emergency request and have called to have the gate fixed. Tires have been stolen in previous years as well (at least 3 times before with multiple cars).Packages - We have lost multiple packages since the new management has came in (Barvin). Weve never had issues with our packages until they took over.Leasing Office Staff - Unfriendly, not helpful, rude, and not proactive regarding requests to ensure safety and security.Air Condition - The AC would go out (these apartments are quite old as well as most the AC units). The worst is during warmer months.Pros:Dog Parks - 2 pretty large dog parks on siteTrail Access - Direct access to the White Oak Bayou TrailNeighbors - Friendly folks live here. Wishing I could say the same for the leasing office staff.Pool - Salt water pool
This is a great inner-loop community. My wife and I originally moved up to this area to save a few hundred dollars/month on rent over Rice Military or Midtown, but both the complex and the location exceeded our expectations. The buildings are a little older than some of the large luxury apartments in town, but everything is well maintained. Everyone in the office is super friendly and helpful. Sasha, the property manager is always responsive and quick with any questions or service requests. We stop by to grab a coffee, a dog treat, and chat most days on our walks. The community is VERY dog friendly, with tons of greenspace to take our old guy on walks without ever leaving the complex. There are also 2 fenced dog parks where your pups can run, and the White Oak Bayou walk/bike trail is literally just on the other side of the fence.Great location, close to a lot of recent development along 19th street, with easy access to 10 and 610. Ample parking for you and your guests. Overall a great place to call home.
Mouse infested & German roach infested - appliances never work. Staff is disrespectful and ghetto. When Sasha worked there it was run smoothly.
The staff is lovely. The property is in a fantastic location right next to Houstons famous White Oak Trail. You can practically walk to HEB, Walgreens or the emergency room. The neighbors are friendly for the most part and the pets of the community are well kept. My father loves living here and I love visiting!
Talk about a HUGE letdown! When I first signed on at this apartment, I thought I was getting a steal! It was a Roscoe Property, but it was sold shortly after - worst thing that could have happened. Dee, the manager on site, seemingly opened and closed the office whenever she felt like it. I never knew if the office hours were 8:30am-5:30pm or 9am-6pm. One time it was even closed at 5:15pm! Dropping off my final check I had to wait in the freezing cold for 45 minutes on a weekend because she had stepped out and her return time was wrong. There is a lot of green space, which you would think would be great, however there is broken glass and porcelain scattered EVERYWHERE! When mentioned to the management, they did absolutely nothing to rectify it, just have to make sure you/your dog doesnt step on any of it.Their method of communication with the residents is to post paper flyers at the dog park, mailboxes and on the gates - most of the time they are way out of date. There would be dead rats left next to walkways for WEEKS at a time, and the workers they contract out for renovations leave their lunch bones everywhere, which caused several problems with my dog.Dee took absolutely no interest in getting to know the residents. One day I interacted with her 3 times and she still didnt know my name or my apartment number (smallest complex Ive ever lived in and the only one that never got to know their tenants). In fact she even had me fill out the wrong form when terminating my lease because, after everything, she didnt know who I was. Trying to pick between 3 people that moved out on the same day, she still couldnt guess right! The maintenance guy was the only thing I liked about this complex, its just too bad he doesnt get the recognition he deserves. I think he is the only one that is doing maintenance on this place.Talk about a lost opportunity with this place. Dont let the move in specials fool you...stay away. Stay far away
Leis review is 100% spot on! We lived here from June of 2015 to June of 2017. When Carol and Erin were here these apartments were amazing and it truly felt like a community. We had zero problems while they were in management. As soon as they left, Roscoe took over and all the problems began. We had PESTS in our home that never got handled. We lived on the third floor and our AC frequently went out/ had a lizard stuck in it/ etc. causing it reach temps over 80 degrees in the summer time! Roscoe was only over the apartment complex for a few months before these new guys came in (not even sure of their name) because the switching of management constantly was quite annoying. When we moved out the current management was over them and we were unhappy already because of the consistent pest problem and were delighted to find a $250 bill a few weeks after move out. Why you ask!? We still arent sure! They charged us for normal wear and tear that comes with living in an apartment for two years. Guess they didnt want to have to put a new coat of paint or do anything themselves. My husband and I advise you stay away and do NOT move here! There are plenty of other properties in the heights where you dont have to deal with pests or loud ACs or inconsiderate management.
Been here for about 4 years now, and now management is really letting this place go down. The owners could care less about its tenants. 2 months without washer dryer. And they have been saying we are getting security and nothing. Cant wait to move from here.
Ive lived here for about 4 years and never moved because I loved the management. However when this property lost its manager it became difficult to get in contact with the office unless its in person. The phone numbers on the website dont connect you to the office and its pointless to email because they dont check it or wont answer until a few days later. It becomes frustrating when youre trying to fix their mistakes and want to make sure that you dont get charged for them not doing their job. Until they have a manager there, I dont recommend living here. Its sad because I once loved this place even with the limited and unique apartment space.
Ive lived here about two years in a one bedroom unit with one other person and a small pet. Maintenance was always polite and responded as fast as they could with issues. (I never had any major issues and everything was done 24 to 48 hours after the request.) Anyone that I ever dealt with in the front office was professional. They just changed leasing companies as of writing this, so well see.The complex is pretty much always quiet and I feel safe being home alone. Youll get your occasional drunk 20-somethings coming home after being out on the weekends. But if you dont want to listen to drunk millennials, dont rent an apartment inside 610 near The Heights. My only honest complaints about living here are the exorbitant rent prices, lack of usable living space inside the apartment, and the condition of the apartments for what you pay. Be prepared to pay a mortgage payment on a two bedroom house out in the suburbs for your one bedroom apartment inside 610.The argument for the high rent prices when we moved in was that were close to Downtown and The Heights. ($1200 to $1300 a month for a one bedroom. Rent, water/sewer, pet fees, trash fees in that figure.) Well, this complex is located in Timbergrove. But if you say so....I just wanted my short commute.Anyway. I hope you like your 8-5. Youre going to need it to cover cost of living around here.
I have lived here for almost two years. The office staff and maintenance respond to requests in a timely and professional manner. The apartments are clean, there is a nice pool, and there are two dog parks. It is close to White Oak bayou.
Horrible place, do not move here dear god.
Lets just say that I know how reviews can be but, I ignored all warning signs... I have not had any attention. I cant begin to explain the frustration that I feel. The truth is that they have been givin every opportunity to rectify the situation but maintenance has absolutely no accountability, what so ever. This site not exactly the most easy to work with and the maintenance department is a joke. I have actually witnessed them fing off meanwhile the work order I have filed weeks ago arent considered an emergency so Ill continue to wait for something to be done. Its pure cookie cutter/Mickey Mouse and if I was home for anything other than sleep, I would be living up my greatest challenge with this property. Im thankful to be on the road most all of my time because the ball dropped and has been rolling, who knows where?
Apartment reeked of smoke. A lot of smokers on site so constantly smelled it in parking garage and in complex. Everything we own smelled of smoke and had too be cleaned or thrown away. Awful!
Great staff and such a cute and quiet complex. I love how dog friendly the property is!
Very quite and nice place - good location - you can walk to small HEB and to a couple of local cafes, Wallgreens is right outside the side gate.Staff is very responsible and nice - addresses any issue with the apartment and tries to find solutionsClose to everything - very convenient.
Extremely difficult to contact the staff. I set up 2 appointments to view the apartments and discuss a lease, and they have failed to have anyone in the office for the appointment. I waited for about 45 minutes each time, and could not find a representative to talk to. After calling the office, I was automatically directed to their answering service, who notified the property manager that I was waiting for my appointment. I never heard back from the property manager. The apartments may be nice (Ill never know), but their staff is rude and unhelpful. I can guess how bad any future encounters would be if I actually leased an apartment there.
On the whole, disingenuous and smelly.Cons:When I first toured the place, it had an odd sweet smell that was hard to place. I didnt realize until after I moved in that the whole place stunk of cigarette smoke. They had (successfully for a time) masked it with plug-in air fresheners. When I contacted the office, they offered to vacuum the carpet (lol). It was bad enough that you could smell it on my clothes that had hung in the closet. The staff comes across nice but is disingenuous in the end. On top of the $50 application fee, $200 out of your $300 deposit is non-refundable admin fee. I gave my 60 day notice 54 days before the end of my lease. Per the technicalities of the lease, my lease was extended by 6 days. They declined to tell me about this when I turned in my notice or even while I still lived there. They informed me after I moved out that I owed them 6 days of rent at month-to-month rate, and threatened to take me to collection a mere 4 days after my lease ran out. At the very least, the knowledge that I had 6 more days to move would have been helpful. The place looks much better from the outside. The kitchen is cheap and impractical. The parking setup is pretty annoying. Cable or internet is only through Comcast (per contract).Pros:Each time my AC broke (twice in six months), they had it fixed the same day. The outdoors and pool area is very nice. Location is decent, but not great.
Agree 100% with Leis review below. The place has gone downhill. I moved out in April 2017 and am still fighting to have them take over the energy bill. I would predict in a few years, this place will be bulldozed and replaced.
I visited the property while in the area and was impressed with grounds and welcoming staff. Nice property in a nice area.
Very beautiful community located in just the right spot! Staff is very responsive!
Just viewed this property yesterday and I would highly recommend it .
The service here is terrible.....The staff here is unfriendly and they just ignore your request. The houses are old and have lots of problems, the problems we claimed are never got fixed.
