One place located in Hyatt in Waikiki, closes at 3:30p. What?? With flights coming in why close that early. Oh yeah, about 20 min. from airport too. Good luck getting it in time. Dont do pickup at this location, go to one on Nimitz Hwy. Plus, you have to do Uber from drop-off to airport. SO stupid! Would give 0 stars if I could!

Reserved a vehicle via third party. Pick up was quick and easy. They have us the key and lot number to where the vehicle was parked. Upon locating the vehicle I discovered some damage to the rear bumper. I promptly took pictures, as there was no attendant to report this too. After our weeks stay I simply showed the pictures to the inspector, smooth and easy transaction. Definitely recommend this location

The reservation process was easy and it was one of the least expensive rental companies of the ones I checked. Upon pick-up, the line was really long and only a couple of employees were checking people in (although it was around 1 pm so could be lunch hour). The employee was really friendly and didnt try to push me into adding extra stuff. I was only charged the original quoted price and drop-off was easy.

Very bad customer service. Came a little earlier then the time of the booking as my airline changed the flight time and I was given a Chevy Spark for the same price as a compact. No readiness to help and No considerations for a gold member for the last 15 years. I think Hertz scams its customers at this location… and Jackie behind the counter was simply mean. You’ll not see me again.

It was very easy to rent, pickup, and drop off the car. My only recommendation is to be sure to have a credit card or else they put a significant hold on your account (which you do get back) if you use a debit card.

Got our bags from Baggage Claim carousel, waled across the street to the parking structure and was in our rental car in less than 15min. Easy peasy.The employees were very courteous, and helpful. The car was clean, and ready to go. Drop off was easy, and simple.Kudos to the staff at Hertz at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport!

Ive worked with rental companies quite a bit over my years of traveling, and unfortunately, this happened to be a bad experience on our vacation. At the moment, travelers should be well aware of a shortage of quality vehicles to rent.Hertz supplied a car with a bad electrical system (battery or alternator) that died while in our hotel parking garage. It took all day to finally square away pickup from their subcontracted towing service. After two call-outs, from the 08:45 AM first point of contact, the car was finally picked up around 11 hours later. Once it was picked up, I couldnt get confirmation that the rental was returned to the rental center, nor that the rental rate was stopped (it wasnt).As some side details -- The morning of the call, the towing call out was cancelled by Hertz. I got a text that the towing service had arrived (it hadnt). Hertz claimed they didnt cancel, but the local towing company said they couldnt pick up without another scheduled call. This led to hours of more hold time with emergency roadside service from Hertz. What did work was reaching @hertz via Twitter -- at least you can get through to someone. So, renter beware; if you break down and youre not in a convenient spot to be broken down you may find yourself SOL.After it was all said and done, Hertz counter at the airport made things right ... But the inter-organizational communication is extremely siloed and dysfunctional. No department can coordinate with another department and the towing services that should have a direct line to Hertz internal dont. They end up in the same hours long queue as customers. This is an operations nightmare for customers, and I can only expect it to get worse while travel ramps up in Hawaii.

They really went above & beyond to accommodate me and provided stellar service even when we ran into a few reservation/Payment bumps! It began when our flight was delayed. So immediately I began calling to let them know. I called all day and and in the evening and they did not pick up the phone. When we finally got in the gentleman was completely rude with us. I explained about our flight and he continued to be rude. So when we went to return the car, we were 45 minutes early. Later I found that they charged us an additional 1000. So I called and they tell me it was late (15 minutes late). I talked with them and told them we were 45 minutes early She eventually told us it was a systematic error. They refunded the additional money they charged us, but the whole experience was horrible. It was the most stressful part of our vacation. Also, they charged 1000 for three days for a small family four door car, it was ridiculously expensive. We will never go through this company again.

Do not rent from Hertz at or near the Honolulu airport.I had a reservation through Bookings.com. I called Hertz to confirm. I was delayed at the ridiculous Hawaiian Covid test checking station upon arrival.The Hertz representative at the airport told me my reservation was at the satellite Hertz office less than one tenth of a mile away and they closed an hour ago. He pulled up my reservation but said he couldnt provide a car. The car could be picked up the next day at 8:00 am. I arrived at 7:45. The manager was rude, unapologetic and arrived 8:01 am then said to wait out side he had to prepare for opening. I was told there was no car available. I should have called.I did one better, I talked to a Hertz representative the day before, who told me to come here and pick up a car. Come to discover they share vehicles, imagine that, Hertz airport shares vehicles with a Hertz satellite office, one tenth of a mile away. Bottom line. I had a good rate locked in. They gave my vehicle away because I was an one hour late. They can share vehicles when it suits them. Never again.Side note:Hawaii is ridiculously fearful of Covid. The science is out there the data is clear. This place is more locked down than Texas in April 2020. The vaccines provided here in Hawaii are better than the vaccines given in the States, or at least the Governor and his medical advisor appear to believe so. June 2021.Hertz, please do not respond to this review with some corporate BS apology and this is not the way you do business ect. Because it is the way you did business.

I had a pretty good experience with this particular company. After landing, the line was long but sometimes that can’t be controlled due to the amount of people landing at the same time. During our trip we experienced a flat tire. We called and got a case number and changed the tire ourselves so we wouldn’t be charged for a tow service or for someone to help us out. We went to the airport and made a QUICK exchange. They already had the same exact car waiting for us and we were in and out within 5-10 minutes. I will definitely be using hertz again.

I made a reservation online way in advance and went to pickup the car. Mind you, I took an Uber from my hotel to pick it up. It was not a same day arrival pickup. I get there and IMAN, the “representative” that was helping me, would not take my debit card for the reservation, the same card I used for the reservation. I told this guy when I made a reservation in my previous destination I could use my card no problem. I asked him to try and he said, “It’s policy, I don’t want to lose my job”. He even wanted to see my boarding pass even though I landed the days before. Why? Who knows. When I rented in Kona they didn’t ask for ANY such documentation and it too was at the airport pickup. I asked to see the manager and he said, “You’re wasting your time” and refused to let me talk to one. Like he as pulling the, “I am the manager” line. So the deposit I made on the reservation was voided (at least it better be) and I had to spend another $40 to get back to my hotel. I even went to the Hertz location at my hotel and they took debit cards no problem. I’ll NEVER rent from this location EVER. And IMAN, you SHOULD be FIRED! You OWE me $80 for the Ubers I took to and from your location all for nothing!

First time renting with Hertz (Im usually loyal to National), and overall I was very pleased with my experience. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and efficient, and I was on my way in no time. Got into a newer car, felt very clean. The only downside is that Hertz at HNL airport doesnt offer the benefit of skipping the counter and selecting your own car as a Gold Plus Rewards member. Returning was quick and easy, receipt emailed in minutes.

I really wish negative stars were an option! Anyone traveling to Honolulu, please stay away from this business at all cost! Me and my family were greeted by a undertrained overly zealous staff member at Hertz. After waiting to be shuttled for 30 minutes near a construction zone, we were given directions of where to walk to the Hertz entrance by a airport employee. In good faith, I preordered months in advance, a Nissan Rogue and paid $1500 for one weeks time. Upon entering the line we were educated by a Hertz staff member that we had entered the wrong line.When finishing the checkin process I was directed to the 2nd level where the Nissan could not be found. When I looked at the car key, to my dissatisfaction, I realized it was a Chevrolet key. I walked around for a good amount of time trying to find the car before going back to the first level lobby to talk to a manager. Though he was a nice gentleman, he failed to correct the deceptive business practice issue.When the manager personally delivered the Chevrolet Equinox to me and my family, he was reluctant to walk around the car with me. It was obvious the car had serious issues. A scratched and damaged bumper, dings all over the car, key marks and the vehicle was not clean. My 13 year old boy helped point out and document all the issues with the car.I advise everyone to use any other rental car agency other than the Hertz at the Honolulu airport. It is best to avoid this agency at all cost!

Made a car reservation and it was ready for us on arrival at HNL. Only discrepancy is the desk agent said we were being upgraded and no mention of price difference until I asked him about it. It was gonna cost us $500/day EXTRA for the upgrade. I immediately told him no and to give us what we alread reserved. Shady.

Had our reservation today at 3pm. we were gross, tired and hungry. We went to get our car rental only for staff to tell us that there is no car available because they had “walk ins” today. What is the whole point of the reservation then? We talked to 3 other people waiting for their car too for over an hour. My boyfriend kept checking back in, an hour and a half later of miserable waiting, staff finally decided to give us an “upgrade”. Thank you for wasting our time and ruining vacation.

Really bad service. Do not provide the car with correct size when have available cars. We rent a economy size car but get a super huge 7 people size SUV. After do the replacement, get a dirty and tire broken car. Should do replacement again, and still get a dirty car. One more thing, they treat customer book from Priceline really bad.

Absolutely ridiculously poor service. Its takes less time to board a flight in Kona, land in Honolulu then for these people to help 3 people. Good luck getting them to answer any option on the phone. 1 person helping 20 people. EDIT: Once I got to the nice lady who helped me with my reservation, she was very apologetic for the long wait and made quick work with my reservation. She was very nice and very professional. Also, returning the vehicle was effortless and took less than a minute. The phone never did get answered and every option was a dead-end, over and over and over again. The airport capacity due to Covid was greatly reduced and even at this rate, the picking up a car at this airport, as well as with most of the car rental companies that I could see, that were all in a row, were all providing terrible customer service but especially Hertz. Id hate to see what this place is like under normal circumstances. Its interesting how when using Turo, I dont have to talk to anyone. They text me the code to the lock box and where the vehicle is and thats it. No lines. No waits. Its how business should be done in the Covid age. There is no reason to be stuck in a crowded line where us the customer and their employees are unnecessarily placed in harms way to use any product.

When we first got here they had charged my boyfriends credit card and said it never went through so they needed mine. It reality it did got through so they double charged us. Then they were giving us someone else’s car in another persons name when we told them multiple times it wasn’t ours. To top that off we left a few things in there, which happens to everyone so you figured they would call you to let you know but they never did. So we reported missing items and they first told us they couldn’t find it and then all of a sudden popped up out of no where in a Walmart bag which seems very sketch and didn’t have everything in it. Seems to me that the workers cleaning the cars decided to steal whatever they wanted and then gave us back what they didn’t want. If I could I’d give them no star at all. Never leave anything in their cars terrible service.

For a substandard Sudan to drive for 6 days...costed my family $1,600, I kid you not. Only $100 less than it cost for BOTH airfare AND hotel for 3 people. Supposedly that was with a discount since I work for the Fire Department. I shudder to think what you would extort me for if I weren’t a first responder. Sold out everywhere though, so don’t have a choice being robbed. Too bad I didn’t have more time to plan, I could’ve bought a car for less & then sold it at the end of our trip.

Arrived from a 6 hour flt with 4 family members (2 of which are under 6 years old and...angry to say the least). We are Hertz Gold members (but will soon be cancelling and switching to Enterprise Rent A Car) to pick up our reserved rental car. Went to the Hertz Gold counter which had ZERO people waiting (see pics), and were told by a very UNHELPFUL Hertz counter person that we needed to wait in the 15+ person standard line due to the fact that we are booked through Priceline. We mentioned, and the counter-man confirmed, that we were, indeed, Hertz Gold members...but we still had to go wait in with our 8 bags and 2 screaming children. Easy transaction. BE AWARE returning the vehicle can be a hassle. If you follow the signs to the return point itll take you in a loop over and over again (maybe due to construction). TRUST ME when you are returning the vehicle follow the return signs until it has the green sign to the Nimitz Hwy. Stay to the right and follow the highway sign and you will see the return sign to the left. very very confusing.

If youre considering renting from this location (a) read this carefully, (b) examine the photos with a critical eye, and (c) think again!!!If you already looked at the very telling photos youll notice that they are all of either very long lines, or cars -- no doubt taken and posted by Hertz.Were no different than everyone else who travels to Hawaii: after several long flights the last thing we wanted to do was wait in line for over an hour!! But thats exactly what happened! I stayed outside with the baggage (as did these people) where there was very minimal seating/room.My husband went inside to wait on a line that moved at an excruciatingly slow pace--partly due to the fact that they had only one person running to get keys. Despite the fact that Oahu is a very commercialized and modern island, their procedures were very antiquated--apparently theyve never heard of a kiosk!When my husband finally reached the counter he was offered a free upgrade which he tried to decline. At that point the associate had to admit that a dreaded mini van (that left us being the DDs for nine days!) was all that was left.It was hot. There were no bathrooms or water available. And the silly people who were return customers said that its always like this! Dont be one of the people who thinks maybe itll be better when you go and take a chance (again, look at the pics of the long lines posted by others!) !! Youll never get that precious vacation time back!p.s. We were there because our niece was moving back into her dorm at the University of Hawaii. You bet weve shared our experience with any friends/family who will be going to see her and/or attending graduation!!

Bad experience from the start...waited an hour in line with only one person working the counter! Was then offered a free upgrade to a Jeep Wrangler, thought this was a good deal...WRONG! At least got a true luxury car this time. The dashboard showed the tires have much more air pressure in them than needed. The door sticker says it should be 35 psi. Went back to talk to agent, asked to adjust it. She said thats not possible and that the only other option is we can get a Chevy Suburban which is a gynormous gasgussler SUV that we definitely dont need. Went to gas station, bought $2 tire gauge and adjusted the tire pressure myself.

First day out with the rental from these folks. Car battery died spent over 3 hours on hold with Hertz 24/7 Roadside Assistance. Ended up using my own AAA membership. If you rent a car from here do not expect to have any support if it needs roadside assistance of any kind. No supervisor willing to talk. No direct phone number for a live person at there 24/7 roadside support. Completely wasted my day in Hawaii with little to no apology. Thanks.

Pick up and return were easy. Kinda confusing to find at first because of construction but once you find the signs to follow, youre good. Car was clean. Staff were friendly. BUT my only complaint is that they need more staff working the counter. We arrived on 11/2, the line was literally almost out the door, there were only 2 people working the counter and each customer took about 10-15 minutes to do their paperwork. We did the rental process online so we were only in line to get the keys/pay so we only took about 5 minutes at the counter, but we waited in line for well over 30 minutes (I had time to walk down the parking lot to use the bathroom while my fiance stood in line). There was a woman working the gold/express line and in that 30 minute time frame, she had maybe 2 customers so I wish she had taken a customer or two in the regular line to help things move along.

I was having one of the most stressful travel days of my life. After going to enterprise where I had a reservation, they refused to take my debit card for some ridiculous reason, even though I was flying out that night. My phone was dead, I had no way of getting back to my apartment, I decided I would check to see if there was any way hertz would give me a car just with a debit card. Bambi was so kind and sweet and clearly could tell that I was in distress, she helped me charge my phone and immediately started working on a car rental for me. I didn’t catch the name of the woman who checked me back in when I returned the car, but she was also just so so nice. I work in customer service and this is one of the best experiences I have ever had in any situation, if I ever come back to Honolulu I will definitely be using hertz again. Mahalo

I got an old (for a rental car) Jeep Wrangler - had 19k miles on it. 19k miles! Thats a lot of trips around the island. Anyway, the reason for the review is that the guys who processed the vehicle return were great. Very friendly, super fast and efficient, and they even helped us poke around a bit to make sure we didnt leave anything behind. I really appreciated that.

At the desk they said they didnt have any more cars that size and offered a luxury sedan or a Jeep. Line was extremely long. Staff was short. 3 counters went on break. Plus if you are a gold member it only counts if you booked on there website. So make sure you are in the right line if not you’ll end up like me and wasting 1:30hr to get youre rental. I flew in on a sat 11:30 am. Took over 1:30 hours to get my rental to me. Ive rented trough enterprise 20 min wait. There system for check in is a lot faster, technology seems to play a better customer experience at least in my end. Hertz im writing this hopefully you can adjust to market demand, in a corporate world you have to adjust for better customer experience. Other than this issue the attendant was very helpful.

PAY ATTENTION TO THE DETAILS. I asked to change my reservation to keep the car a couple extra days (do it all the time). Guy at the counter said I was good to go. Turns out he did not add the extra days. Hertz changed the contract price from $54 to $120 a day- due to the extra two days. I called customer support and they basically said I am out of luck. My fault for not paying attention, but now I know to stay away from shady Hertz.

Absolutely terrible and completely unprofessional. I arrived with a booked rental that mysteriously was at another location. The Hertz staff didnt seem to know their own system, as they gave contradictory information several times to my face at the counter. When asked how to remedy the situation, they seriously told me to take the bus. Dont book with Hertz if you expect to actually get a vehicle.

I’d booked Jeep Cherokee, but they ignored the reservation and assigned Chevrolet Equinox (having many scratches and bird poop stains) after asked the number of passengers and baggages. They said they guarantee only the car size for a reservation. Hertz is one of the largest companies and have kind staffs, but their policy for a reservation is just one of disappointing points due to placing their own interests on the top priority.

Never renting here again. First suv they tried to give me had terrible smoke smell in it, so I had to go stand back in the long line to get a different car. The second car they gave me had stains in the backseat and a dent on the right side. At this point, I was over it so I just took pictures of the damages and left. I use Hertz all the time, and travel to Oahu at least four times a year, this location has done a lot of remodeling that really makes it easy to pickup your vehicle when exiting the airport, I have had to exchange vehicles twice on separate occasions (over a span of years) due to not being cleaned properly, but the vehicles themselves were good and the customer service is always willing to make things right!

I recently visited Oahu, Hawaii. I set up my rental at Hertz at the airport online about a week in advance. The process when we had arrived was quick and painless. I was offered an upgrade and initially said no thanks... but was extended an extra discount and decided what the heck. For an extra hundred bucks I would get to drive a Mercedes for the next 5 days. The car was immaculate. It was also a hybrid with many driving settings which seemed to come in handy. I drove 303 miles in comfort and style with less than 1 tank of gas which I had prepaid for.Drop off of the car at the airport was super convenient and easy. Great experience!

Professional yet friendly staff and excellent customer support was highlight of this rental from Hertz. We received a clean vehicle when we arrived and drop off process took reasonable time. Only suggestion: expedite pick up for Gold members by matching similar process as in other major airports win US.

I didnt mind the shuttle serving many car companies as they are all located in the same lot. Waiting period was very short between shuttles. Counter pick up had a gold club section and courteous agent and my paperwork was ready to pick up very quickly. For that I give 4-5 stars.The car I selected, a compact, was located at the end of the lot (maybe because it was the cheapest selection I guess and it didnt matter if I was a gold club member). It was dirty compared to other Hertz locations I have used. Maybe because it is Hawaii and the standard is lower here or maybe because it was just a compact car ? The car had sand in door pockets, had bird droppings on it and the windshield had streaks. It was disappointing but I didnt want to make a big deal about it. For that I give 2-3 stars. I had gotten a good deal via AAA and it was my sons graduation. Having a small size car was great for Honolulu. I highly advise Hertz Oahu to pick up that aspect of expectation as some clients might be looking elsewhere.

The staff were nice and helpful. Being a Hertz Gold Member is definitely neat to beat the line. The car I received was in good condition and clean, but had a few scuffs and beach water stains, so make sure you document these and notify them immediately to avoid taking the hit for any pre-existing faults!

I have been visiting this Hertz for many years and have never had a bad experience. The staff are always friendly, courteous and go out of their way to help. The location is a bit tight on space, but no more so than any place else on the island. The cars I have received have been clean, and mechanically sound. I have not had a mechanical problem with any of them.I typically get a midsize vehicle, clean and filled with gas, and when I have had to extend have had no problems doing so.Great job!

Friendly and efficient service. Our reservation was ready and we were given two bottles of water for our car.At the drop off again service was quick and friendly and the Hertz employee actually drove us in the returned rental car to the terminal. That was great and saved us a lot of time without having to take our bags out of the car until we got to the terminal.BEST return experience ever!!

Rented a Buick Regal in Hawaii. As a Gold Member, access to the vehicle was just a few steps from the shuttle bus. The car was clean and a realpleasure to drive. Could have taken a cab to the hotel, but it is always niceto be able to have a vehicle to purchase necessities to take back to the timeshare suite. The weather was great. Look forward to next years trip!
