AWFUL! When the tow truck picked up car, he said, “let my guess, Economy A/1 rent a car?”I had driven the car less than 20 minutes when it broke down. i figured it was a fluke which would be easily resolved. HA! I spent 6 hours trying to get help from Economy. Never reached anyoneHad main office on the mainland send urgent email for help and was promised call within the hour. no call ever came. i sent my own email. no reply for 2 days.I had booked through Hotwire, a supervisor there spent two hours trying to reach someone. when she did reach someone she patched me in to call. a man named Jo began yelling at me offended that i called for help and hung up before i had a chance to say anything. supervisor was so shocked by his behavior that a he filed a formal complaint.I called the police. They noted that the tags were expired and registration had failed. They suggested I have the car towed back to company.Which I did.I still have not heard from Economy days later.Thankfully, lack of insurance and registration allowed credit card company to refund me for three week booking.DO NOT USE THESE GUYS- there is no bargain to be had! Only headache!

This is the second time I have used Economy Car Rental in Honolulu. Their shuttle was waiting right outside the airport and had me to the office in less than 15 minutes.All of the staff was extremely helpful including the young girl who I was told was new, but you would never know it. I cannot believe this place is allowed to stay open. This place is SO sketchy. Waited over 80 minutes, even with a reservation. It is NOT at the airport- it is on a sketchy lot is a bad part of town. You have to wait outside on a porch. When I expressed frustration, and asked for a call back so I could go somewhere else to wait, he said everyone else is in the same boat. When I cam back to get the car, the agent refused to give me a car. I was stuck in the middle of nowhere with no car. Worst experience of my entire life. Was sobbing.

3 hour wait during the Thursday 2 PM of memorial day weekend, although we made a prior reservation three weeks in advance. However Hawaii I was going through a period where they are experiencing an influx of travelers. Rental was $60 a day compared to other rentals which were around $100 per day.Nissan Versa was very low budget, old, and jankee, didn’t have an actual radio rather it had a deck that was in a different language so it took us forever to get it to work. It was decently clean but definitely not as nice of a vehicle as other newer rentals such as hertz, enterprise, etc.However it got us to where we needed and had AC.

This place is a scam. They masquerade themselves an affordable option for car rentals but there are hidden fees. My husband and I had to wait over an hour to pick up our rental even though we had reserved it weeks prior to our arrival in Honolulu. We arranged everything through Expedia and paid the entire amount. When we got there, however, they basically told us it would be a mistake not to purchase their “extra coverage” even though we were covered through our insurance. We were told that if anything happened to the car, whether or not it was our fault, we would be billed a daily fee until the car was repaired to compensate for the time it was off the road. We went ahead and purchased the extra coverage for piece of mind.The car we received was filthy inside and out, it felt mechanically unstable and the key fob had a dead battery so the rep told us we would have to use the valet key to get into the car. He was then “kind enough” to clue us in on a trick on how to start the car with a dead key fob. Smelled horrible too!!Nothing happened to the car while in our care, yet a day after returning it, a $60 charge showed up on our credit card. When we called to find out why, the rep on the phone was very rude and told us we would have to wait for someone from their billing department to return our call probably in 72 hours. That “people are dying out there from covid” so we had to wait our turn.DO YOURSELVES A FAVOR AND GO WITH ANY OTHER COMPANY. I unfortunately thought going with Expedia would be good but not so much.

David, Nissa And Oz we’re amazing I came all the way from NY and unfortunately their policy is different from that of third party websites and David made sure I was able to still drive away in a car. My mom also is a cancer patient fighting breast cancer, and haven’t eaten in a few hours she also has diabetes and her sugar was low they made sure she was able to get some things to eat to raise her sugars. There customers service was impeccable and really appreciated.

I was promised a full refund due to a COVID-19 positive case, only to find out they lied to me and Expedia and now refuse to refund me. The representatives including Mr. Jansen from the branch is rude, yelling, hanging up and not answering the phone or emails. They do anything to make sure you think everything is okay just to get rid of you. I have filed a formal complaint to Economy international, made a dispute to my credit card company and Expedia is also on the case to get my money back.Please stay away from this rental car company at all costs!Full story:Had a pre paid booking of a car at Economy rental Honolulu made for our trip to Hawaii 20th - 24th of September 2021.Unfortunately one of my family members test positive on arrival and I call to ask for a refund in the morning when they open. The representative ask me to talk to my travel agent Expedia since I made the booking through them.When Expedia talks to the representative at Economy Rent A Car, Honolulu he is assured that I can receive a full refund and the only thing they have to do is to send a request on email on behalf of the customer (me).Expedia return to me and I act in good faith of this refund and therefore do not pick up the car.I receive an email from Expedia confirming the on going case with Economy.I never receive any answer from Economy as they promised.I ask for a status 4 days after and Expedia contacts Economy, who now refuses. On top, they are being rude, yelling and also telling Expedia to basically f***k off.I call the Economy representative to experience exactly what Expedia tells me. Mr. Janson is being rude, yelling at me, hanging up multiple times and not answering the phone.Me and my family are devestated about this case, since our whole holiday has been destroyed by COVID and the attitude from Economy has just made it worse. We have only acted in good faith asking for some help in this tough time but Economy has been very unhelpful.The worst is that they promise something and then don’t live up to it. All the phone calls are recorded and Expedia has now opened a formal complaint about them within their company.Further I have made a formal complaint to Economy international and also filed a dispute to my credit card company. I am considering suing and/or reporting to law jurisdictions.Please do not use Economy rent a car, Honolulu.I fear that violence might unfold to future customers using them after the very aggressive attitude.Lasse

Great experience all around with this service. I was helped by Oz who was very friendly and helpful. He even gave recommendations for local eats! The car itself was fine had no issues. Their customer service was fantastic. I had a question while I was out and they answered the phone on the first try and were helpful despite my poor attitude. I would definitely rent from here again and recommend it to anyone visiting.

The staff that works are not badly educated professionals, we were three people waiting outside because they wont let you in, you have to put your name and wait outside for them to call you after being an hour. We asked why it took so long and the manager or the owner came out and said that Those who were in a hurry left that there was no car for all those who asked why so much delay I do not recommend this car rental to anyone for now to get a few dollars you end up paying more

#1) Not at the Airport. #2 waited 50 minutes, only 2 folks working. When it was my turn to fill out the rental agreement. The manager (?) Asked for my email. I did not respond well, them the transaction got disrespectful quick. I have been travelling to Oahu for 40 + years. The manager may have thought i was being disrespectful. I was Not. He was so mad at me he threatened to throw me out of his business, multiple times. At the end of the rental, the man helping me calmed down, then made some what of an apology I would not recommend renting from this business. The sub compact a 2016 Nissan Versa has mileage & wear on the body. They do take pictures prior to renting. No big deal. What youd expect from a discount car rental. They do warn you about returning the rental with Too much sand, actually tell you to vacuum out prior to returning or pay a hefty cleaning fee !!!! Update, after washing the windshield inside and outside, plus the extremely deteriorated wiper blades. We were driving back to our condo from Koko Marina in the rain showers. The visibility through window was very limited. The wiper blades were not working. Making the drive miserable. Almost hit two tourists that were J-walking. I could not see them.

Had such a horrible experience with this company. First, we had to wait about an hour upon arrival to pick up our car even though we had reserved a specific time. Wasn’t too upset about that since they looked super busy. However, their customer service is horrible, they will not help you with any questions or problems you have at all, and they’re just plain out rude. I had accidentally left my phone in their airport shuttle on the way to my flight back so I called their office and the man who answered just said “we can’t do anything about that” and hung up on me. After calling again trying to get a hold of someone different, another man told me that they can’t do anything about it until the phone gets turned into the lost and found. I suggested if they can look through the shuttles coming back from the airport, as this would only take a couple minutes, but the man said they are too busy and can’t do that. He was being very condescending and rude when talking to me. I had a flight to catch so this was very stressful for me, so I asked the man “so what am I supposed to do” and he said we can’t help you and he hung up on me. Just very bad customer service and I understand that they’re busy, but at least have some basic care for your customers. The only good thing about this place is the airport shuttle drivers, they are actually helpful and have a great attitude! Other than that, try to avoid this place.

Thieves.They run a scam and Kayak or anyone else shouldn’t do business with them. If you look at reviews, they routinely add charges on after the rental period is done with no explanation why. I just received a $60 charge with no reasoning and once I looked at their recommendations, I’m far from the only person to have this happen to.Besides the scam on the money side of things, the cars are unsafe. Bald tires and self belts that didn’t retract, I doubt any of their cars would pass inspection besides with a paid off inspection shop. Check engine light came on 3 days after getting the car with only having driven a few miles. I called the rental agency and they said it was normal and to “deal with it”. Car had a hard time starting and when I returned the car, I mentioned this and the worker checking it in scoffed and said ‘I’m not surprised, they’re all like that here’.Please do not rent from here, unless you want to have your vacation ruined.

In retrospect, I wish I had gone somewhere else to rent a car. While there are multiple challenges booking with this company, our biggest complaint was that we were, in my opinion, significantly overcharged for a vehicle and are now trying to get some of our money back.The best thing that I can say for this company was that the staff were both polite and professional during our initial visit.While that is always a plus, it does not balance out all of the other issues (distance from airport, potentially long wait times, sitting out in the hot sun waiting for your turn, lack of company responsiveness when we found out about the overcharge, etc.)Before you book a rental car at the Honolulu airport, be a wise shopper and check out the reviews (we did not), check out the location, check out the wait times, and in the case of this company, find out if you have a nice indoor, enclosed, air-conditioned waiting room to sit, relax and wait, or, in the case of this company, stand outside and bake in the hot Hawaiian sun and wait your turn as we did (there are a couple of outside benches that have some shade, but we had to wait at least 30-35 minutes until the seven-eight people ahead of us were served).Price is not always the only factor.

Please do not rent from this company. We were so busy preparing for our vacation that we did not have time to research reviews. As we were boarding the shuttle from the airport the guy next to me said that the reviews were bad. When we get there and see our car it was a mess. Stains on the seats and stains on the dash and console. The car smelled musty and dirty. We felt stuck and just kept going and just assumed the car condition was the result of being a car constantly being taken to the beach. Our vacation continued as planned until the car was stolen as we went snorkeling at Sharks Cove. No one told us this, but the North Shore area is very dangerous with lots of theft. Keep your belongings on you and not in your bag on the beach. Our phones, wallets, food, and even our clothes and shoes were stolen with the car. The car was recovered and some of our stuff was returned (of course minus phones and cash). Now the fun really starts as we try to get Economy in contact with our Insurance. We asked if we could get another car and he said we had to pay for the current issues with the stolen car. When we asked how much that would cost, he estimated approximately $2500. When the guy realized we didn’t want to pay (and couldn’t pay because our cards were stolen), but instead would let the insurance company handle it, he got mad and hung up. We will no longer speak to this company and are just letting our insurance company handle it on our behalf. Low quality business and horrible customer experience.

DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!!They will add an additional random extra charge to your credit card without your knowledge or permission a couple days after you leave ($60 to over $100). If you try to call them directly to ask about it they hang up repeatedly or don’t answer at all. They do not respond to emails. If you try the main customer service number for Economy they won’t help and will stop replying to emails. It’s quite the scam they have going!DISPUTE THE CHARGE WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD COMPANY! I was told by mine they are in violation of the law to add charges like this.Read the many Google reviews! Some people are told it is a cleaning charge. We returned on time, as clean as we received it and with more gas than we got it with. To this day we have no idea what the charge was supposedly for.They are not accredited and have an F rating with a current active alert with the BBB. Report them if this happens to you! Leave online reviews, report it to hotwire/priceline etc if you booked that way, report it to the BBB and report it to the Honolulu office for the State of Hawaii Office of Consumer Protection, Department of Commerce & Consumer Affairs.As well, as everyone else has said, the cars are junk, you wait over an hour in the heat to pick up the car and they are not at the airport.

If you are planning to rent a car from here, pack yourself a lunch and some water. It s a great way to combine a picnic and a car rental. First off, their shuttle does not show up till about 30 minutes, and if you get lucky with that, their place has the most inefficient system with one agent taking 15 minutes per person.. cannot understand what they do for so long.. are they doing a background check or what?? With the searing heat and humidity of Hawaii, you are forced to stand in th sun outside the office which only has space for one person at a time. Checkout my photos with people sitting on benches on their porch and the unluckier folks being forced to stand in the sun with their kids.So please do yourself a favor. Spend that extra 1 or 2 $ a day and get a car form Hertz or Avis or Budget. These are available at the airport and youll be done in 15 mins tops and avoid this place at all costs. After all, its your vacation and you want to be in good spirits.

This is the most ridiculous car rentals experience Ive ever had. I had to wait for 30 minutes of the airport for the first shuttle to arrive, in that time all the other major car rental company shuttles head made at least six or seven trips.After a 10 minute drive to the office there was another 45 minutes wait until I was able to start the documentation. The vending machine there was not working and a woman in front of me was complaining of her getting charged and not getting any drinks dispensed.I wish I had checked the reviews before booking, not worth the hassle.

DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM HERE NO MATTER WHAT THE PRICE!!! They will try to rip you off. Charged me an extra $40 for what? Car was returned in the same condition, date and time. This is fraud..Didn’t even let me know what that charge was for because they charged me the day after I left Hawaii. If I brought back the car with any concerns it should be itemized, I should sign it, and they should let me know with a receipt that I will allow these charges. Returned the car and they hurried and swept me away to the shuttle back to the airport. So wouldn’t anyone assume all is well? Disputing it with my credit card company. If you want to get scammed then go right ahead and book with them.

This place has been great. It is way less money than the comparable rental companies. The shuttles from Honolulu airport came within 5 minutes each other. Also, the Manager, named Oz, and his team worked through the line of customers efficiently while giving my friends and I some of the best customer service I have experienced. Thank you!!

My wife and I experience here was amazing. We were attended by the manager Oz, who right from the start was very welcoming and had a great personality. He was funny and outgoing and got us in and out without any delays. He treated us with a lot of respect how a customer should be treated. Worst rent a car place ever! Very unhelpful. Took them 2 hours for me to get in my car. Very unorganized and rude as well. Do yourself a favor and pay the extra $5-$10 and go to a different t place. That’s what I get for trying to save a few bucks. A ton of headaches. They are awful. Hope this helps

They need to have a zero star option. Everything was actually fine for us until we returned the car and got back. Before we returned the car, we went to a nearby gas station to vacuum the residual sands and whatnot accumulated during our trip. So the car was spotless when we returned.Then we got home and got charged $50 additional. We were just curious why we were charged the additional amount. We called the owner up and he was just ridiculously rude like all the other reviews described. I think its his technique to avoid actually answering any questions. The phone calls were so traumatizing that we just let go of the $50.

Don’t listen to all the cry babies giving 1 star reviews. It’s an economy rent a car, you get what you pay for don’t expect a brand new car for the price but here are my thoughts.Pros:- Cheap car rental- Clean- smoke free- quick- unlimited miles- early drop off- customer service at location was friendly.Cons:- older vehicle (~5 years old)- central customer service (based out of Florida I think) via phone had attitude but answered all questions.- cars have high mileage 75k+ but got the job done.- key fob only unlocked car, didn’t lock or alarm.Extra:- got a free upgrade since vehicle was inaccessible at the rental car.- didn’t charge for having A LITTLE sand in the vehicle since we went to the beach multiple days.Overall:Great experience and the company seems to have come a long way after reading previous reviews. Would recommend to a friend/family and would rent again.

Had to put a star in order to give a review. DONT NEVER EVER GO HERE. EVEN IF GOD HIMSELF TELL YOU TO GO. Just ask the Lord for forgiveness for disobeying. This place is ridiculously horrible, 3 1/2 hrs. wait time to receive a reserved vehicle thats already on their lot, people had left because of their wait time, spoke with other customers, and one family experienced bugs in their car. And their company policy is you will still be charged even if you cancel your reservation. BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE!!!!!!

First of all this location is not on airport property. I waited nearly 50 minutes and made 3 phone calls to get a shuttle to rental location. However, the shuttle drivers were great. That being said, I had a reservation and still spent nearly 3 hrs waiting to get my vehicle. The vehicle windows and mirrors looked as though they had been washed with a dirty rag. The vehicle was older and had over 70,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, I would not recommend them.

Rented a car here for a trip to Oahu and was glad to have found somewhere with cars available. Once we got the car we realized why. The car had noticeable damage and extreme wear and tear. The side mirrors wouldnt adjust, none of the buttons on the console were visible, and the passenger seatbelt would frequently lock or not even work.The worst experience by far was when the car broke down and I called the office for assistance. The phone system was horrible and one operator was incredibly condescending and hung up on me. Their suggestions were to try again and they kept implying I had filled the car up with the wrong fuel. The options provided to me were to try again or have the vehicle towed myself even after I had purchased the additional insurance. Eventually we got the car turned on again, only for it to break down another day.I dont recommend using this company to rent a car. Safety was a huge concern for us and customer service was horrible.

Don’t even get close to this place, 45 min waiting for the shuttle, when we get to the place 1:30 mim waiting, the car they gave have some issues with the brakes, I call back and ask dor a replacement and they told me I have to take the car back, butt the car have no brakes, and the costumer service just hang up on me, I dropped the car on the middle of no where and dispute the money

They had the best rate we could find on oahu. It is located off site from the airport. But it was really easy to find the shuttle from the airport to the lot. We became acquainted with the owner how made special arrangements for us when we returned the car, because we needed to return the car before they opened in the morning. He was great to work with and we would definitely rent from them again if we come back to oahu.

This place is a scam and fraud. If you are 5 min late, they will tell you that your reservation has expired, although no cancellation or expiration email was ever sent to you. The place does not answers phones or emails. They will not accommodate delayed flights. They will tell you that your car is rented but that you are lucky enough and they have another car just for you AT LEAST TWICE the original price. This is all a lie and part of systemic fraud. The place is a used car sales lot. They always have cars, and they will give you an old dirty car with half tank of gas. This place needs to be investigated and shut down. Avoid at all costs.

We had a very bad experience with this rental company. First we had to wait for 20 mins at the airport for the shuttle during which all the other rental companies came for pickup 4-5 times. After reaching the rental place, we had to sign up and wait for our turn. We had a prior reservation for the car. There were 11 people before us and it took 1.5 HOURS for our turn. It sucks after a 12 hour flight journey.The car we got was old but it was clean and got the job done. The price is cheap but not worth the hassle. I’ll not be renting from them again.

This place is all about stealing your Money. I booked a reservation for a car rental for the same day pick up, which I ended up canceling within 5 min because once I called the person who picked up was rude. Two days later there was a charge in my credit card for a day rental . When we try to explain that it was for the same day pick up, they continue saying that there was a 24 hours cancellation policy. The reservation was made to pick up the car the same day, there was no 24 hours …. I am in the process to reporting this location to the BBB . When we try to speak with them, they were rude and they did not care at all about the fact the expedia did not specify their cancellation policy . When we told them, we were going to speak with our credit card company then, they said that what was the point to dispute it, if they were going to charge us anyways . These people are all about stealing your money without providing the service . Do not rent any cars in this location. The person I spoke to hung up on me before I was even able to say thank you . If I could give zero stars, I would .

Amazing Aloha spirit from everyone!We arrived at the curbside pickup at about 7:30pm and we were concerned that we might be stranded since we learned Economy closed at 7pm. To our relief and delight, we were soon met by the Economy shuttle. The driver was the very embodiment of the Aloha spirit. She was so kind and welcoming and assured us that even though they closed at 7pm, they were expecting us from our reservation and were all staying late to make sure we received our car rental.Upon arrival, we were greeted by the Economy staff and every one of them were just as warm and friendly, and very accommodating. Our agent, Laran, was incredible and even managed to get us a free upgrade. The entire experience was the best I have ever had and truly a model for what customer server should look like. I will absolutely and ONLY rent from them again and again. Im a customer for life. Well done!

WARNING: 🚨 Avoid at all cost! As multiple people here have complained below. This place is a scam. Absolutely no assistance or help when calling in to dispute the charge. The rep hung up the phone and I was not rude either simply persistent asking him to forward me to someone who could help me since he stated that he couldn’t.Also the car was 3rd rate used cars. These cars are cheap low budget cars you would find on turo sitting in someone’s yard under a pine tree. Nothing nice, simply something with wheels to get u from point a to point b.I had to call and dispute the 58.95 charge with my Amex.From the moment I arrived, you could tell that this place was a low end independently owned low class business. Nothing like a Hertz or Enterprise, No this place is in a parking lot next to target inside a gated fence with cars parked along the street.Stay away unless you want the hassle.

Unfortunately this place is as bad as the other reviews are sayingWe gave it a try and it went like this: had to wait over 45 min at the airport for the shuttle, then another hour (outside in the sun!) at their location until someone could actually check us in. Very next day had a flat tire and understandably they didn’t help but we luckily had chosen to not receive any road assistance from them, my gut feeling tells me that they wouldn’t have been any help… anyway in the trunk there was only a dummy tire and they didn’t not offered to replace our car. We had 5 days in the island and wasted a whole one dealing with a tire that had been patched twice already according to the AAA guy… one word: MAINTENANCE.We are returning in January from the Big island, needless to say, won’t be renting from Economy Rent A Car Honolulu again.Update day #3 almost noon dealing with a flat because their tires are so old, haven’t been able to enjoy our trip at all.

Havent even gotten to my reservation date yet and Im already trying to find any way I can to transfer my car rental to anyone else.The staff here are extremely unprofessional and rude. I called today to see if I were able to schedule a pickup time 2 hours earlier than I had originally booked (Please keep in mind my reservation is an entire MONTH in advance from now). The guy that picked up (unfortunately I didnt catch his name) has no idea how to handle customers or basic human interaction. He handled my question with sarcasm, made snide comments about them being at 10% staff capacity when I asked him if I could just check my booking in my email to confirm the time I was asking for, and then told me he canceled my reservation. When I asked why he would just cancel it, his reply was just because we have too many reservations. And then HUNG UP ON ME! The entire call lasted 1 minute and 16 seconds. Cue the flurry of activity on my end because these bookings are non-refundable and I wasnt sure if he actually had the ability at the location to cancel. Took me an hour to get through to their corporate customer service line and they confirmed my reservation is in place but I have no inclination whatsoever to give my money to them if this is how they treat you. Do NOT trust them with your business. I wish I had looked at these reviews before I booked.

Affordable and reliable vehicles. Sure, they are a little on the older side by a few years, but you simply cant beat the price theyre asking. The car we had was clean, and most importantly, safe. My wife and I were checked in pretty efficiently and were on the road within 25 minutes of arriving. There is a free 8-minute shuttle to the airport when you check out, which was convenient. The place is under new management, and is apparently turning a new leaf from its previous era. Oz, the new manager, was extremely helpful and made the entire experience enjoyable and provided a fresh perspective to the company, given their previous reputation. Will definitely be back for a no frills rental at a bargain cost. Ask for Oz, he truly cares about your experience and turning the company reputation around.

Called from the mainland to reconfirm our reservation and the guy I finally got hold of told me they had no time to reconfirm reservations and slammed the phone down. I immediately called back and spoke with another gentleman who was kind enough to take my name and reconfirm my reservation. Needless to say, I immediately cancelled the reservation and re-booked with Budget at a slightly higher rate, but without such horrendous reviews. After reviewing all the reviews on Economy, I believe it is the Manager who is so incredibly rude and hangs up the phone on people.

Zero star must, My trip havent started yet, I already had very very bad experiences with their staffs.The guy who answered the phone was extremely rude. Definitely he did not want to answer any questions at all. I have prepaid for my car but I am willing to give up my money and book with Budget instead. Rent a car from this place through Priceline and prepaid because the price was good. The car had well over 80k miles on it and was making all kinds of noise throughout the week. After returning the car, was told everything was fine. Next day an extra charge of $40 was placed on my credit card without any email, receipt or explanation. Called multiple times to reach someone at the place and was told the charge was for a cleaning fee. In fact was told that it was a huge discount since usually they would charge for much more than that. Then I got cut off. Never heard of a cleaning fee in the rental car business. Plus the inside of the car was already cleaned and there was nothing on the outside other than some usual dust. Since when do we have to do car wash before returning? The guy taking my return also said absolutely zero about this.Will never do business with this company anymore. They are cheap for a reason.

It first started with the horrible van service. We waited over an hour just to get a ride from the airport. We made several calls only to be hung up on or to be told what do you want me to do there’s shuttles coming. They only had two shuttles running. We ended up getting a Lyft. When we arrived you are required to sign in on a clipboard and wait outside. Absolutely no waiting inside no matter how hot it is. This process took over an hour as well. They have 3 people who did everything. They check you in, they take pics and move cars. They do it all which I’m sure is the biggest problem to the wait.I used a 3rd party website to book because it was inexpensive. I wish I had looked at reviews!Don’t waste your money and support a business like this because they don’t care about customers or their service.

Staff was rude- called asking questions about airport pickup and was hung up on.Car was old, radio didn’t work, arm rests in the car were missing, and key fob didn’t work to lock the car. This is not on the airport and if plane is delayed they will NOT make accommodations to assist you. I would recommend renting from enterprise or other locations on the airport. Facility the cars were on looked like a unkept used car lot. Long wait to even get the car even with a reservation.

Returned the car perfectly clean and yet charged a mystery cleaning fee. Beyond livid with Priceline for even allowing this place to be an option. I booked the deal where you dont see the company you are given until after paying. Lesson learned and never trusting Priceline again.My son is a car guy so after getting our clunker we drove next door to Target so he could open the hood and check the oil etc before letting me drive it down the road. After returning the rental car we were the last 2 people to make it on the small shuttle to the airport and others in line had to stay behind and wait till it returned.Believe the 1 star reviews. DO NOT rent from this place as others mentioned here. I booked through Priceline and had paid for my rental already. I go to the place which is outside the Airport area to pick up the car, they give me a old Toyota Corolla which has check engine light ON. I refused to take that car and then they give me Nissan Versa. This place closes by 7 PM local time and unfortunately I reached after that. They said no shuttle to airport I had to book Uber or something. I booked Uber which never came and then I had to request a person from the location to drop me to airport since it was time for my flight. After returning the car the person sent me a final bill which was within my reservation price. The next day I see a charge on my card for $59 so I called the location and the person on other end is very rude and disconnects the call without looking into the details or provide me an explanation for the charge. I kept calling and one person picked up and said it was deposit amount he would refund it. I saw the refund the same day but it disappeared, called them again no response. I wrote emails to their location copying economy customer service and just got a response saying the local manager said it was for cleaning. The car was clean when I returned else the person who took it should have told me there would be a clean charge if the car was so dirty.

The shuttle driver and the rep i dealt with were cool. the rental market in Honolulu is absurd right now (July 2021), so its hard to say how expensive Economy is compared to others, but its high. on the other hand, an expensive rental is better than no rental at all, which is the only alternative. in the end, Id go back.

This is by far the worst customer service I have ever had.I had seen all of the previous reviews and decided I would call the rental company to let them know that we would be about an hour late to pick up the car due to the time our plane came in. When the gentleman answered I told him that we would be an hour late and he immediately yelled and said You can not change reservations. We didnt have any intention of doing this I just wanted to inform him of the situation. I than asked him what will happen if we are an hour late and he told me Someone will probably die and then hung up the phone.I proceeded to call back still remaining courteous and asked him what the previous conversation was all about. He said there are more important things than me being an hour late and if I come with the attitude (which I did not have) there would not be a car waiting for me.I made a claim with my bank to dispute the charge telling them I did not want to deal with such hostile people and was refunded my money. I ended up paying $320 bucks a day for a rental car but it was well worth it not having to deal with this company.

After waiting at the airport for almost 45 mins, when we arrived to their location it was another wait. I had a 10 month baby who was extremely bored and just not having it. My family and I took a Lyft to our hotel and just said forget it. Later that evening I received a call from someone there and asked if I was coming to pick up my prepaid rental. I then called back and told him that no and decided to no longer rent, his answer was immediately well I don’t care you’re still being charged. I tried to explain that their wait time was ridiculous and I couldn’t wait with a small baby. Once again he said that’s not his business. They charged my card and I didn’t even get the car or anything due to the long wait. Don’t recommend this place due to them not having business manners and being rude from the start. Service was good. Wait times were nothing out of the norm. Even the staff was respectful when picking up and dropping off the car. Luckily I read the reviews and people were getting charged $75-$100 Cleaning fee 1 or 2 days after their final bill. So I cleaned and vacuumed the car and took pictures before returning it. Upon returning the car, even the staff member said Wow, the car is clean and smells good. After inspection was done, I got my final bill emailed and headed out. Lowe and behold..... 1 day later while in route back home, a mysterious in person charge for $89.75 shows up on my credit card statement. After numerous emails with customer service, I get the old trick up their sleeve of The car was excessively dirty!!! I dont know if its on the local level or the corporate level because they will not talk to you about it over the phone. Its only by email. Probably because they dont have the guts to talk to you in person after trying to rip you off, but things like this take away from a nice time you are trying to spend with fam. If you can rent from a reputable car rental co. like Enterprise, just book it 1 or 2 months in advance. If economy is your only choice, make sure you clean it and take pictures to make sure they dont try and rip you off. Also, dont expect much of a car. Its like the employee staff told me Its economy rent a car, not luxury rent a car. Stay alert folks.

We didnt read the reviews before renting and thank goodness we didnt. The price was superb, $15 a day. The shuttle was good and the staff were friendly. We did have to wait about 20 min for the car when we rented it but everything else was incredibly smooth. The car was nothing fancy but it was nice and it got us all over the island and barely used any gas. I would definitely use this place again since our hotel wanted to charge $90 a day.

We had a normal wait time for an off airport rental company. On the way to the site the bus driver told us about a target and Papa Johns to get food while we waited for service. The bus driver said there was an hour and a half wait. When we got there we put our name on a list then waited outside until they called us. We put our name on the clip board at 330p and were the seventh name on the list. It took until 440p for us to get the car. There were three people check in customers. My name was crossed off the list then the clerk went on break. Then they tried to serve another person instead of me. There was a period of time that all three agents did not check anyone in for 20 minutes. They just disappeared everyone waiting was asking what happened.The car we got was what you would expect for a high mileage rental car. The check engine light was on, a lot of strange noises, etc.

The customer service gentlemen, stayed past closing to work with me to secure my rental and was even able to offer a cheaper option. I was very wary of the business when I saw the reviews and went in with cautious optimism. The car they gave me was a 5 year old car with stains in the seats and 60k miles on the odometer. I was okay with that but when I got the car, it kept showing low tire pressure even after inflating the tire multiple times. I called them for help and they said I can figure it out or return the car by myself and offered absolutely no help. I ended up calling AAA and paying out of pocket to get the tire fixed.When I returned the car, I confirmed with the check in attendant that I would not be charged anything extra for the rental. The next day, I saw a charge for $60 on my card and when I called them, they said theyd call me back with a reason. They never called back and when I called again, the business owner just hung up. These guys are frauds and cheats and give you disgusting cars and then charge you extra fees for no reason. I would AVOID this place at all costs.I will be contacting the BBB about this location and hopefully we can fix these shady business practices.

The car I rented from them stopped going past 20 mph on my WEDDING DAY. I had to take a Lyft to my wedding and back. We were late.THEN I had to have it towed by my own AAA because they refused to pay for it when I called them. I SHOWED UP TO THE CAR RENTAL PLACE IN MY FREAKING WEDDING GOWN. They said it was my fault on the phone. Their customer service line was extremely rude and condescending. Meaning they already knew about it. **My husband noted many people before him complaining about the cars they rented too. Very angry families.**Either way Panda promised to reimburse us for the very expensive Lyfts and car rental because it was all their fault. He even gave us his personal number incase anything goes wrong. He gives us a less broken but still very worn down car.Stupid move on my part. Smash cut one month later we got no reimbursements and he ignored all texts or calls. Economy tells Priceline we were happy renters and nothing went wrong during our trip.Horrible headache experience. Especially for someone in Hawaii getting married. Dont rent from them. Beware of these guys and all the additional charges. I was charged an extra $78 for “excessive sand” and another $11 charge that I have no idea what it is for. I was not informed of the charge before they charged me. When I called to inquire he told me the car came back in really bad shape with “excessive sand”. When I tried to dispute the fact that it was not as bad as they were claiming they hung up on me. (I was being very nice.) There is no reason to hang up on a customer. I work in customer service myself and that was uncalled for. I tried calling back and they didn’t answer my calls. Here is said “excessive sand.” It’s Hawaii...of course there is sand. $78 to vacuum sand... I would have taken it to have it vacuumed it had I known that to begin with.

The worst rental car experience i have ever had, I usually not write review even if it is bad, but this is far beyond my expectation. One of call center people is the worst person i have talked to. The facility is old, together with a used car dealer. The car i got have soamy dents, and it is 2014 nissan! Can you believe that in 2020? And they are not in airport, not even close, very far from the airport. Only good thing is the staffs there are nice. Except that, everything is so bad. 100% Avoid this place.

Wow, I’ve never rented a car so old. I received an old Nissan Sentra— literally there was a side mirror panel missing that made the drive loud, the backlights of the radio and shift gear did not light up which made switching stations and gears problematic. Since the car that was given to me was so old there was no USB port— it was very inconvenient to go to Walgreens to buy a car charger to then find out that the cigarette outlet does not work! Also, I just noticed a $50 charge post trip, no email explaining why, I’ll be calling soon since I filled up the tank and all the usual stuff.FYI this location is 8 mins from the airport. Cost of rental was good, however they did not verbally tell us that there would be $50 a cleaning fee if there is sand in the car. Obviously, in Hawaii there will be sand in the car. We have rented from other rentals before that explicitly told us if there was sand in the car there would be a fee so we made sure to clean it out before returning, however a1/economy rental did not. They sped you through the check in process and you sign a tiny tablet, however did not verbally say there would be a charge. They verbally told us about the gas and damages to the exterior, however nothing about sand.

I have used hotwire before and it was always good service. This time it was terrible. I Rented an economic category car for 4 passengers and 1 suitcase, prepay the insurance with Allianz. We was waiting in the airport one hour for the shuttle. When I arrived at economy car rental they offered me a Duraflex or an electric fiat, both vehicles for two people. Obviously that was not what I paid on hotwire, around $ 1,350 for a week. I had to forcefully pay an upgrade; Regarding the insurance, they said that they do not accept third party insurance, that I had to pay the insurance again with them, so I ended up paying double for the insurance. For this experience I do NOT recommend using this Economy Car rental company, they are terrible and I will be more careful when using hotwire again.

A-1 Rent A Car in Honolulu, HI was the worst experience of my life. Dealing with them ruined my trip, and they have the worst customer service (all of them are RUDE). The engine exploded on our car within 5 minutes of pick-up, on the freeway. We pulled over popped the hood, and the oil cap was popped off, and there was no oil in the car, causing pressure, and engine was shattered. When I called and told them what happened, they stated, If that makes you feel uncomfortable, you can come back and exchange your car, just make sure you fill the gas tank back up for the gas you used. I told them we couldnt even drive the car! It wouldnt turn on without shaking. We waited over 2 hours for a tow truck and new rental. The new rental only had a quarter tank of gas, and I called and spoke to the manager, Panda, and he told me to return the vehicle with only a quarter tank, and hell put notes in my account. I returned it at 5AM (before they opened and put my keys in the drop box), and sure enough, they charged my Credit Card $10/gallon (over $100), since I returned it with a quarter tank!!! I have been trying to contact the manager (Panda) for over 3 days now, and he is never available. I finally spoke with a different manager (I didnt catch his name), and I told him the whole story, and all he said to me was, Wait, lets back up to the first car. How much gas did you use before the engine exploded? and I told him, We drove 5 minutes away from your company and it exploded, so barely any gas at all. Then he told me to hold. I was on hold for 20 minutes before he hung up. I gave him the benefit of the doubt that maybe we were disconnected and called him back, he put me on hold for over 20 minutes again and hung up again. I am disputing all charged with my Credit Card company and reporting them to the BBB (which is an F rating, by the way)! Every review (they only have 1.8 stars) or complaint about them has been that the company charges your credit card without authorization MULTIPLE times and will not refund or answer/respond to your calls. I have no idea how they are still in business and running this scam! I hope this helps so nobody else has to deal with these people.
