Had a great day fishing with captain Thomas caught fish for four hours at all three stops. Started with red fish then caught a lady fish and bonnet head shark then moved and started catching sharks one after the other. Thomas is a great guide very informative about how to catch and fight the fish. Will definitely use him again
This is a great charter. Brian is knowledgeable, communicates well, and works hard to provide you with a memorable experience. We fished two days with him this week, and it was a fantastic experience. Being new to the area, We chose off the hook charters because of the social media presence and after reading reviews, which are excellent. The reason the reviews and social media are overwhelmingly positive is because it is an honest representation of the effort, knowledge, and skill Brian puts into the charter. We highly recommend Off The Hook Charters.
Went out with Matt on 06/01. He put us on some great Redfish (one of them 12 lbs) and a couple sharks. Very knowledgeable of the waters and will be booking with them for years to come.
We booked another trip with Off the Hook Fishing Charters because every time we have gone out for a trip, we had success. I am not sure how Captain Brian pulls it off year after year, but he has a great on the water network and pinpoints where fish are located. This year was no exception. We started with catching some fresh bait and then anchored in the sound for some reds with the incoming tide. To our surprise we caught everything but reds! In two hours we landed a Sting Ray, Hammerhead Shark, 2 Reef Sharks and a Bull Shark. It was amazing! Shortly after that we pulled anchor after Captain received word from one of his guys they were on some reds. After a quick 5 minute ride, we anchored and within 30 minutes we boated 3 reds totaling 70-75 pounds. The largest was just over 30 pounds and it was the biggest one his boat had landed year to date. It was a great experience as always and I would recommend Captain Brian and his crew for any group that is looking for some good fishing.
I would highly recommend Off the Hook charters to anyone looking to fish in the Bluffton/ Hilton Head Island area. Owner Captain Brian runs a top notch business and was extremely accommodating. We fished with Captain Thomas who was polite, professional, and super knowledgeable. He was able to find us some fish even in tough winter conditions. He operated the boat, which was clean and comfortable, with skill and safely. All around a pleasure to fish with. We will be back.
Simply awesome. Such a great trip. Would highly recommend to anyone.
What a great morning on the water with Captain Brian. He was able to put us on some fish even in rougher conditions. I would highly recommend and I will be doing it again with him next year.Update From Previous Review: Another Great Trip with Off the Hook Charters. 3rd one of the year and it never dissapoints. This is one of the highlights of my work year getting to go on these trips for business partnerships since 2014. Anyone looking to book a solid fishing trip with a knowledgeable captain needs to look no further
Stars were aligned for this PERFECT day! It started with a PERFECT sunrise and glass river ahead. Twenty minutes later Capt. Brian picked his spot, maneuvered the boat into position. With out a ripple on the glass water glaring at us from the low rising sun. Bam!! He hooked the first fish while I was working the kinks out of a 5-year hiatus from a fly rod in my hand. He kindly passed me the rod to boat my first Red ever. It had the shaking of a Big Blue Fish and a pull of a 25 pound Striped Bass. PERFECT!!An hour later on a second spot we had tailing Reds on the edge of a slack tide just changing. Again Capt. Brian put us in PERFECT position on the edge with the tide and fish working towards us and waited. Bam!! This time it was me and the fly, who duped my Red into striking. First on a fly! What a thrill!! (See the YouTube video)All said and done this is a top tier Captain & Guide who knows is business, hands down. Just a PERFECT day!(Only Big Bones in the Acklins and Andros top this experience.)
I have fished with Captain Brian multiple times and I am always impressed. Captain Brian always knows where to go to get a bite.He is patient, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable about his craft. Although I am fairly inexperienced with fishing, Captain Brian is always incredibly kind and patient with me. I have had some amazing catches with Brian and I always look forward to fishing with him again during my next trip to Hilton Head.Brian goes above and beyond to provide an enjoyable experience. Whether its pointing out bald eagles or slowing down to enjoy dolphins swimming by, the time spent on his meticulously clean boat is well spent.Do yourself an favor and book a trip with Captain Brian. You are guaranteed to have a great time!
I caught about 25-30 Spanish Mackrel on the fly with Capt. Brian (aka: The Fish Hunter). The best part though was getting a Cobia. Biggest fish I have ever caught. I will definitely be booking Captain Brian and Off the Hook Fishing Charters whenever Im in Hilton Head. Thanks for the awesome time! Tight lines and calm seas.
This was our first trip to Hilton Head and my husband loves to fish so this was a must on our trip. It was a beautiful day out on the water and we had so much, my husband caught a nice size Lemon Shark and my daughter and I caught quite a few Whiting and Spanish mackerel. He even gave us an amazing ceviche recipe. Will definitely book again on our next trip!
I have fished with many guides/outfitters accros the Gulf Coast from Texas to Florida and points in between and Brian and his team of boats and captains are the best Ive ever seen for inshore fishing. A level of knowledge and experience that is very impressive. Hard to believe really that we went out for around 4 hours and came oh so close to completing a slam (redfish, jack and tarpon). If you are lucky enough to book a trip with him then look no further. Book it and go. Tight lines!
Went out with Capt Brian on 7-24-2019. It stormed the night before and dropped to about 70°. Capt Brian advised us due to the weather and large waves, fishing may be tuff. I was so impressed he was able to see these JACK tales and put us on these fish as well as others. All my other charters have been in Pensacola FL. this has been our best trip. Would love to see what Capt Brian could do on an ideal fishing day
This early morning fishing trip that my girlfriend and I took was much more than I expected. Unassumingly, I booked this as apart of her birthday weekend celebration not expecting it to be much. And honestly a little nervous since we dont live in Hilton Head. However, according to Google reviews Off The Hook fiahing charter is one of rhe most popular ones in Hilton Head. As I emailed the company questions or concerns they were very responsive even before booking the trip. On the morning of the trip we arrive 15 minutes prior to our trip to find Captain Thomas already in the water waiting on us. He had bait, coolers, reels, and etc.But I think the most important part was his knowledge of the water. He knew exactly where to go to find bait and the areas where the fish are known to bite. And it worked to our benefit. From the very first reel we threw in the water to the last 30 minutes it was constant action in the water and we were even able to take some home. Captain Thomass mannerisms, conversation, and how clean he kept the boat made us customers for life. Im in the process of booking our next trip in a few months with him. In my eyes they seem to be the gold standard when it comes to fishing charters here in Hilton Head!!!
My trip started late and ended early without any offer of a rebate. We only caught two sharks while I was going to catch some redfish. The weather was not cooperating and rained pretty steady on the way back to the dock. You have to idle out a long ways which takes away from fishing time. The guide was nice but I think he was tired of being wet from the rain too.
I booked a morning with Off the Hook Fishing Charters for my 10 year old son and I to kick off our week on Hilton Head Island. Communication with Capt. Brian was timely and he was waiting and ready to go when we met him at the dock. We did a quick run to an inland stream and just as Capt. Brian was explaining the habitat and nuances of the tide, we saw a number of redfish head right towards us. We spent most of the morning working our way up the stream and landed a number of redfish, a couple of serious size! In addition to knowing right where the fish were, Brian was extremely knowledgable about the island and gave us tips for fishing in an around Hilton Head during the rest of our stay. He also provided us with awsome pictures of our fish.We had a great trip with Capt. Brian and I will certainly be ringing him up on our next trip to Hilton Head Island.
Had a great time despite the freezing cold temperatures Brian found some sweet spots out of the wind and we caught some serious redfish in spinning and fly rods. Even saw a bald eagle! All in all a great day can’t wait to do it again!2019 TripFished with Captain Brian again this year. This time there was pea soup fog but we ventured out anyway. Just as the sun was rising and visibility improved we arrived at one of Brian’s sweet spots and he put me on two awesome redfish. He never disappoints can’t wait to do it again next year!
I have been on many fishing charters around the country and this trip was the best by far!!Brian’s knowledge of the area, his skill level in sighting the fish and the gear he provides is top notch. He knew where and when to move to find the fish based on the tide, using wildlife and shoreline markings to zero in on the action. We fished three different spots and caught several red fish in each area.It is obvious that Brian really cares about providing you with an exceptional experience. Of course it is important to remember that there are no guarantees of catching on any fishing trip. This is why it is so important to hire a Captain that will give you the best chance to catch in any conditions...In my opinion Capt. Brian has the experience and skills to do just that!!!
Another trophy fish in the books! Every year I fish with Captain Brian with Off The Hook Charters, we target a different species. And each year, it exceeds my expectations. The hard fighting Jack Crevalle has been on my list of species to catch for quite a while. It was an awesome treat to land one of these magnificent creatures on a top water popper. It was an epic battle and one for the fishing memory bank. After a quick photo, we released it to fight another day. Still a few days later, my bicep is reminding me of the battle. Good times! Thanks Captain Brian!
I was fortunate to fish 2 days last week with Captain Brian. We had a blast and found good fish both days. He put us on fish even in less than ideal condition. Boat and gear are top notch, very experienced captain.
Exceptional morning of fishing for a non-fishing family. Captain Ben was easy going, a great coach, and patient with the family. We ended up catching, and returning, sharks, rays, and a hammerhead! Price was well worth the experience as my son is now interested in fishing and my daughter is ready to get back on the water! Well done Captain Ben and Brian!
Crushed the redfish with Captain Brian Vaughn and Off The Hook Charters today! Brian is the best and knows these waters so well. We always have fun fishing together...but today was epic! If on HHI and looking to fish with a pro who knows his stuff and is patient with his anglers...look no farther than OTH Charters and Captain Brian!
Captain Brian put us on some nice redfish, located in a tough spot, in difficult weather conditions. He is an expert and we had so much fun we booked a second trip. Day 2 featured more stud redfish, trout and sharks. Captain Brian is extremely knowledgeable, skilled and professional. I highly recommend him!
What an amazing day we had with Brian. Well exceeded our expectations. Had a blast sight casting to Cobia!
This was the best fishing charter I have ever taken! It was by far the best day of our vacation. Captain Brian was awesome from the day I booked until we got off the boat. He made it fun and educational for my 6 year old and helped him catch a red fish on a fly rod. He knew the area and all the spots to go to. We had an incredible day. And caught tons. We cant wait to go back and book next year to create more memories!
Brian was a great guide. He got me several shots at redfish on the fly and I even cashed in on a few
We had a great time fishing Hilton Head waters with Captain Brian and Off the Hook. Captain Brian was a knowledgeable and fun host, showing us multiple habitats and techniques. His boat and equipment were top notch and it was fun to watch him do his work. We had a blast reeling in bull redfish! We look forward to next time!
We last minute decided to do a fishing charter for 4 hours and it was the highlight of the trip! They were responsive in booking our trip through email and it was a blast. We caught a ton of smaller sharks and it was so much fun! All 3 spots that our guide John put us we were able to catch fish. Next time would book it for a full 8 or 10 hours instead of only 4.
Had a great time with Captain Ben! Was great with my kids. Caught red fish and sharks in the bay
What a great experience!!!My son and I had great day of fishing!!I was quite amazed how professional and well experienced Captain Brian was!!Thanks for everything Captain Brian a time for special memories!!!!
Best day of our whole trip! Captain Ben was amazing. He even got my super shy 11 year old to open up and made his day awesome. We caught a dozen sharks and 3 stingrays. Truly a must do in Hilton Head.
This was our (wife and I) first time fishing with Captain Brian, but we will definitely be back. After a slow start (my fault, I wanted some mackerel for dinner, near shore is not the best area for that this time of year), we did find a good spot, continuously got hits, and brought in several full size bonnet heads. Fun bringing those in. Captain Brian is very knowledgeable and just a good guy to talk to. One nice little treat he let us do was swim with and pet a wild dolphin that came up to the boat. Something that we have never done before. Overall it was a fun filled, memorable experience. We highly recommend.
Spent a morning fishing Hilton Head with Captain Vaughn. Iv been out with a few other guides in the area and he was by far the best. He put me on a lot of fish including the biggest bull red I have ever landed. Great guy. Highly recommended for serious fishermen.
Catch some fish! Off The Hook Fishing Charters - Captain Brian is awesome! We were on fish all morning. Big reds, flounder, shark, among others. Well worth the price for the knowledge and experience that Captain Brian provides. Whether you are a beginner or seasoned on the water - contact Off The Hook Fishing Charters for a great fishing experience.
Husband and I went out to fish with capt Brian for our anniversary. Awesome experience and would highly recommend this adventure. We caught red drum, saw pelicans, dolphins and had a great time. Super clean boat and hes got several years experience! Cant wait to come back!
My family and I have fished with Brian several times over the last few years. He is a wealth of information about the local fishery. His boat is spotless and equipment always well maintained. When he goes out on a trip, he plans the trip to take into account, the customers desire and ability, weather, tides and whats been biting. We have always had great trips with him. If the weather and tide are good, he can put you on some fish. This last weekend it was windy but we still fished 2 days with him. The first day was trout and reds on top-water lures at day-break. The second day we wanted to specifically target tarpon. The wind was blowing, but he put us on the tarpon. We were able to get at least 6 looks at tarpon coming up to the surface, just couldnt get any to eat, but thats tarpon fishing.
This is the second trip with Capt Brian. It was unbelievable! We caught huge reds, sharks, etc. I took my grandpa and my brother. Neither one can stop talking about it. The boat ride and the views are amazing, capt Brian is a great guy and makes the trip fun, and to see all the different fish, sharks, and the dolphin that comes right up to the boat. Best 3 hours of vacation!!!!!
My boyfriend and I decided to go fishing on a charter during our spring break vacation. Off The Hook was the best! Our Captain Brian took us to many different spots and we caught 4 red fish and a stingray, and saw dolphins! He taught us how to salt water fish! Great experience and will do again!
Captain Nick was great. Put us on this fish and made for a fun trip. Four good sized reds in a quick morning trip. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for fishing charter in Hilton Head.
This was our second trip with Captain Brian and he did not disappoint. Even though we started in the pouring rain, it turned out to be an awesome day catching bull reds. We began with some river fishing for smaller 1-4 lb reds which was fun on a light rod and in the current. After that we moved to deeper water and caught the 20-30 lb monsters. What a day we had and after watching the other boats around us, we were the only ones catching anything. Fantastic time and I will book again the next time we are on HH. I highly recommend Off The Hook Fishing Charters to anyone who is looking for a great fishing experience.
Had a great time fishing with captain Brian!! Caught lots of sharks!! He tried to get us on some fish that we could throw some flies at but the conditions werent right and thats fishing. The best part of the trip is my girlfriend got to see dolphins up close!! I would definitely recommend captain Brian and off the hook charters!
Had the opportunity to go fishing a second time recently with Captain Brian with Off the Hook Charters. Again, it was one of the very best fishing trips I have ever been on! We caught some of the most beautiful huge speckled trout I have ever seen and to top it off a few nice redfish as well. Brian is absolutely an Awesome captain, has such a serving positive attaitude, and really knows how to fish the area. I would and will recommend a trip with Brian to anyone I know. It is absolutely off the hook! Thanks again Captain Brian for another Awesome morning of fellowship and fishing.
I booked a fly fishing trip with OTH in March 2020. The weather was horrible, and I thought the day would be a waste. However, Captain Brian gave me the shot of a lifetime and I caught my first redfish on the fly! You WILL NOT find a more professional guide, who is serious about catching fish! I will be booking all of my trips with him from now on.
My last trip was the best ever. We hooked up a giant Tarpon and didnt let go until we got him to the boat. Believe me... when you hook a monster like that, you want someone with experience beside you. Consider me a customer for life!
We had a really great experience with Off the Hook fishing charters. My wife and I are ameteur fishers and she caught a bunch of fish! We had Captain Ben today and had a great time! I would definitely recommend this company to anyone looking for a laid back fishing experience. We look forward to going again sometime.
Brian did a wonderful job of giving us a great experience on a challenging weather day!
Awesome shark fishing and even better captain! Very patient with kids and incredibly knowledgeable. Caught 6 sharks, with 5 to the boat. This memory will last a lifetime, cant wait to do it again! Thanks Captain Mike!
Awesome day with Capt. Bryan! Clean and extremely well kept boat. Had fun and learned a lot from his knowledge and experience of the area. Highly recommend booking a trip with him!
Captain Brian is an excellent guide. We had a great time fishing and catching redfish. His boat, equipment, knowledge, and instruction is first rate. Our morning charter was the highlite of two weeks at Hilton Head and we can’t wait to do it again next year.
Brian is a great captain and pleasure to fish with. My father and I have been fishing with Captain Brian several times over the years... Our most recent trip in August 2016 was a blast, we got into some nice redfish and trout using light tackle and top water plugs. Brian is also great for family trips, hes accomdated four of us at once on a previous trips.
If you contact a fishing charter and they ask you what you would like to fish for and you tell them, Something I can eat! and thats not a possibility should they tell you? If you answer yes, then this isnt the charter for you. If you answer, absurdly not! Then you can stop reading this review. I mentioned during two emails that I wanted to catch something I could enjoy cooking up while on vacation with my father and the rest of my brothers and their families. He told us when we arrived he was cutting the trip short by an hour and didnt cut it by 25% but more like 15% and on top of that, that the seas were rough and we had to stay inshore. We caught a few sharks but that was it. I was amazed that the small waves stopped us from going out but the boat was little. I learned its important to look at the photos and also to get definitive answers on weather and conditions and if it will have an impact on fishing for that particular species of fish. Overall it was a good memory with my father and brother but knowing I had told him my only request was to catch some fish I could go back and cook up was it. Flounder was on my list for crying out loud! Maybe thats what I should of titled this. Oh yeah, we had the dolphin swim by the boat. You all will! Dolphin seeing for $400. Good day mate!!!
Off the hook charters is by far the best captain Brian is extremely knowledgeable and experienced he gave us a unforgettable experience and memories his boat is immaculate and gear is second to none he put us on the fish this is our fourth time going with him and each time it is amazing from the big bull reds to Spanish mackerel and a variety of sharks if you want to have a great day of fishing theres no one better treated me and son like family experience of a lifetime
Great trip with an awesome guide! Captain Brian had us on a topwater redfish bite within minutes of launching and my 9year old son caught his first red! Would recommend to both beginner and experienced anglers.
Windy and 45 degrees isnt exactly ideal fishing weather but thanks to Captain Brians local knowledge and skill we had an awesome fall day on the water anyway. We landed multiple black drum, flounder, a bunch of redfish, and more on a morning when most boats werent even leaving the harbor. And most importantly, we had a great time doing it! Looking forward to our redfish tacos for dinner and to our next trip out with Off the Hook!
Had a great time this afternoon with Capt Nick. He put us on Sharks, Cobia, Blues, and Mackerel! Made our trip. Highly recommend the crew.
My wife, myself, and 8 year old son went on a 3 hour trip with Cpt Nick. We are beginners and Cpt Nick knew where to go and how to patiently engage our boy who caught 4 Black Tip and 1 Hammerhead shark. Our day ended after also catching 2 Jacks and a Spanish Mackerel. We would highly recommend Off the Hook Fishing and will look forward going out with Cpt Nick again next July.
I bought a 3 hr trip for my boyfriend Steve and his parents while we were in Hilton Head. They all 3 came back with such awesome stories of the fish they caught. They all had a fish on within 10 minutes and caught 4 species of fish in january. Captain Brian knows the water and the sweet spots. The best part of all he let Steve bring his bow to bowfish for Sheepshead and was successful at getting Steve to the hot spot!! Would so recommend this charter and will definitely be returning!!
Let me preface this review that I was stuck on a boat with a Clemson fan for 4 hrs. and being a Bulldog fan brought its own challenges. Lol.However, I wouldnt want to fish with anyone else after today. OTHC was punctual at the dock awaiting our arrival this morning and my boys were very skeptical before loading up to go fishing this morning. Primarily due to prior experiences which equated to really expensive boat rides. As we push off from the dock we head to what I will now call The Honey Hole I realized very quickly that Capt. Ben was going be a lot of fun today. In the world of fishing there are signs from the fishing gods that will tell you it is going to be an EPIC day. When a beautiful spinner shark crested the surface 100 ft. In front of the boat it was going to be EPIC. Before 8:30 We were anchored up and lines wet. Things get a little cloudy after that as we were to busy catching fish to have time to remember anything after that, except which pole was going to produce the next screama... I have been fishing with different charters throughout the HH area for the last 7 yrs. and I am deeply regretful that OTHC wasnt my first call. But I can assure you it will be my last and only call moving forward. I think parents will understand this best, when your kids cant stop talking about how many fish they caught and how much fun they had the entire rest of the day it was an EPIC SUCCESS!!I recommend OTHFC and Capt Ben to anyone that wants to catch fish. I only request that they please leave some for us when we come back next September
We went a few days ago and were expecting more as it was one of the best rated charters in or around hilton head island... But we only came out of a five hour trip with two fish and they were both blacktips. So i am not sure if it was just the day the bait or the extreme heat at around 90 - 100 degrees farenheit. So we had an overall bad experience but maybe yours will be better.
I have read several reviews on here which will sound very similar to mine. I want to be clear. I am not rating this poorly because we didnt catch fish. Thats fishing. Im rating this poorly for a number of other reasons which I will detail below.First, I should note we fished with Captain Byron. I had only one interaction with Captain Brian and he seemed nice. Capt. Byron was also nice, but his understanding of what Our goals were seemed not to be a priority. Not once did he ask what species we were looking for, as I had little interest in Cobia, unless we caught other eater fish already. When we pulled up after a long ride out, we pulled up on choppy water. He had me pull and redrop the anchor, which is fine. But I am used to fishing lakes in the Midwest with trolling motors. My experience with anchors is minimal and this seems fairly unsafe.Second, we got into sharks quickly and caught a few. After a couple bites he said if we keep on sharks, we will need to do something else because theyll wear me out. I have no issue with going elsewhere to catch other fish, after all that was my goal. But should your fatigue be a primary factor when people are paying $375+tip for 3 hours? After this, we went spot fishing for Cobia. We saw nothing. For the better part of 45 minutes, this is what we did. And again, I understand that is fishing, but this was for a fish I had little interest in catching. So finally we moved over to the bridge. There were a few Spanish mackerel jumping so we pulled up. We caught a couple more sharks here and had plenty of lines. We even hooked a shark on a spinning rod. Which is fine. But Capt. Byron seemed far more interested in a surfing competition he had on the radio or pulling up and talking to other boats than putting us on fish (yes, I understand he was getting an idea of type of fish they are catching, but they were lengthier than hey, whatchya seein conversations- he pulled up next to one boat and reminisced with a friend for 5 minutes with no anchor or lines in the water). An hour left in a three hour trip. We werent having luck, so he said we are going to spot fish some more. Instead, he just drove slowly back to the dock. He literally took an hour to do this, without any intention of catching fish.I understand that catching anything is fun. So, yes, fishing and catching sharks was fun. That being said, the effort put forth by Captain Byron seemed minimal. All of the other reviews similar to this have included a response from Captain Brian to the effect of fishing is fishing, you may not catch anything. My discontent here stems from a number of other factors. Specifically, there was no inquiry regarding base knowledge up front, there was no interest in our goals and his aloof and lackadaisical attempt at guiding our expedition did not go unnoticed. Additionally, the slow ride back home with zero lines in the water was also not unnoticed. Frankly, this is fraud. I fished for 2 hours and was charged for 3. Plain and simple. It is important to understand that I have fished for years on freshwater, but this was my first saltwater experience. Maybe this was a simple lack of communication. But my impression of captain Byron, and as a result, off the hook, is incredibly poor. I will not be a repeat customer, and I will not recommend this experience to any of my friends who vacation down here.I hope this experience is rectified for those in the future who choose to use your company, and I wish you all the best.
These guys help our family out our kids on some fish thanks!
Great experience!
