One star is being nice, because it is terrible. They claim the rent increase is fair because of the amenities they have to offer. Like the pool, which hasnt been open in 2 years they are telling the new people it is because of COVID but the pool has been closed waiting for inspection. The gym is another amenity they claim to be so great which is a complete joke!! Poor management poor staffing poor maintenance!! Will be so glad when we move!! They told everyone they were not aloud to have grills on their porch (with no open flame), that tenants were to use the grill in the grilling area by the park but that is broken!!! Like completely broken!!! Frequent car break ins and abandon cars in the parking lot taking up the guest spaces. It also floods a lot!

These apartments are so nasty on the inside. The price is great and so is the location but its gross. The staff doesnt answer the phones or email anyone back. The condition of the apartment was so disgusting when we moved in. Unfortunately, we had already signed the lease. I would definitely recommend another apartment to live.

Complex quiet for the most part but thats the only thing they have going for it. The amenities are a joke. The pool has been closed for over a year and the joke they have for management still claims it is because of Civic guidelines. The exercise room is a couple treadmill machine that are filthy. Everything is outdated, old and overpriced but even given the greed machine that has become ridiculous rent in Durham, there are much better options.

Wonderful place and atmosphere. Caleb is amazing as many have said. My fiance and I were looking for a new place to live and even though we were walk ins Caleb made time to talk things over with us and even get us in to look at a unit. The renovations and ideas he has for the place are spectacular. Caleb remained in contact with us every step of the way. He responded quickly to emails and texts/calls. He went above and beyond to help us get approved and into a unit. I couldnt of asked for a better person to help us with the process. Unfortunately we had to turn down the unit due to and unseen circumstance that required us to move out of state. The unit was beautiful, Caleb is a joy and amazing and the local is convenient. I wish we could of moved in and i still appreciate everything he did cause not many would of done all he did for us.Thank you Caleb! Keep being the amazing man you and keep being dedicated to providing great service to current and future tenets! :D

If you like your maintenance services to get done in 2 weeks for old apartments that are falling apart, look no further! This is the place for you! The greatly advertised new management is possibly worse that the previous, with the manager not even knowing who lives where. Unresponsive towards any kind of issue, regardless of priority. Our AC filled the carpet with water and we got a call about it 3 weeks AFTER our lease ended, manager didnt even know we had left. Only reason I give 2 stars and not 1 is because the surroundings are quiet and well taken care of.

Do not trust this place. Prices are outrageous for what you get. They lied to me to get me to sign a lease, saying theyd pay water and did for 3 months then all of a sudden Im having to pay. I also am paying for a renovated apartment and was promised certain things that I still havent received in 4 months. There is absolute no communication with this place now. It has so much potential to be great but be careful. I dont get why Im paying so much for so little. Great mistake renting here. It is ridiculous how much Im paying for stained carpets, powerless outlets, no Microwave (the least concerning), towel racks that were barely in the wall, a front door where I can see outside from the top of the door/not insulated, and just an overall cheap feeling apt. Rent at your own risk, I will not ever be renting here again.

Since Caleb has taken over the property, I have seen many improvements that I am pleased with . Just when I thought I had to find residency else where due to me having restricted breeds, he made it possible for me and my pets to stay on the property . For that I am forever grateful of him because a lot of rentals don’t take pit bulls anymore . Caleb is the epitome of greatness and other property managers should follow in his footsteps. When you finally get someone who cares about the tenants, it makes you feel like you picked out a good place to stay . Not to often that you come across someone like that . Moreover, I’m glad he’s here & hopefully he’s here to stay .Thanks Caleb

Just moved out today. The overall experience was great. Maintenance was awesome. If I had questions about the property or needed something done, it was tended to quickly. I had NO problems with Maintenance. My actual unit had no roaches throughout my stay.Part of the deal here is keeping the apartment clean if you don’t want bugs. I lived in the one bedroom and I felt that I had a lot of space for the price. Living here was a great experience.

Do you enjoy waiting months for a service request? How about having your rent rate raised by 150 dollars a month without having any issues in your unit fixed? How about having water and sewage added to billing (60+ dollars a month) when your contract says you wont be charged for it? When you complain - they laugh in your face and say you have no recourse.Ive been living years and ever since the new management has taken over, they have tried to squeeze every nickel and dime out of me without improving the apartments at all.

We have almost 3 months that we move in to these apartments and to be honest we really regret it. SUCH A BAD MAINTENANCE!!!!!! And since we had moved in I called saying that the light of the kitchen doesn’t work and they still haven’t came to fix it ! They keep saying that they will come and fix it and they never do. I have ran out of patience. Like seriously ? Can’t wait until we get out of these apartments.

UPDATE: PLEASE DO NOT MOVE HERE YOU WILL REGRET IT! I REPEAT YOU WILL REGRET IT!LEASING: when you rent an apartment you sign a lease for the purpose of agreement! Well the complex was taken over by a new owner and there have been SEVERAL new office managers within the last couple months and several changes that we as RESIDENTS were not notified on! There were water meters installed and an email was sent out stating that the meters were being installed In June to keep track of leaks! However several months later (Oct.) we get a bill for water/sewage without being notified. When taking this issue to the office the only explanation is that there was a notice given but no one can produce the notice! Then They no longer accept partial payments and add the amount of the water/sewage bill to your online balance as if they are forcing you to pay it with out producing the evidence that is being asked for. I won’t even get started on the amount they are trying to charge for rent for the little bit of upgrading they call themselves doing to the apartments!Do not waste your time you will not get your moneys worth!Don’t believe that website it’s setup to draw you in!Don’t waste your time renting these apartments! When we first moved here it was ok for the price however upon moving in things were broken as if the apartment wasn’t check before we moved in. Parking is horrible there are families with 3 and 4 cars taking up majority of the parks with only 2 drivers living in the residence. When brought to the attention of the office staff nothing was done about it. The apartments are old and the floors squeak really bad. The walls are very thin and to add insult to injury the apartments in under new management and things seems the same if not worse! We were notified of the new management be way of a letter being left on our door and the online payment system stopped working and we wasn’t notified until the last day. i will be moving as soon as my lease is up.

My daughters downstairs apartment kept having ceiling leaks from the upstairs. Should have been properly fixed the first time... not just a cheap, temporary patch up job. Mold throughout the unseen space between her ceiling downstairs & the flooring upstairs still hasnt been addressed... even though they have reported it several times, over several years!!!! They recently moved out because my daughter could no longer deal with the recurring respiratory problems she suffers due to the mold!!!

We all know social media goes a long way these days so you are being forewarned and you can only blame yourself if you move into this property- Some people wouldnt take the time to let you know their experience however I feel like I should share our personal incidents with Stones Throw Apartments (Now Named Aven Apartments)-Original prices for these old and outdated units were OK.... but new pricing is outrageous for what your going to receive- 2 Years ago when we moved in 5 cars were broken into (including ours) We shook it off because we had just moved in and thought it might be an isolated incident- Old property management sucked about work orders and were useless about everything new management team is approvingA couple of examples:New Management:*It took over a month for them to empty the dog poop stations however they felt it was OK to send us email telling us to clean up after our dogs or wed be fined...they also dont supply poop bags even though you pay a monthly dog fee* Decided to start renovations on the clubhouse to add a gym right before summer starts and send us an email the day the pool is supposed to open that they will not pass inspection because its in the same area and that we can all go to a public pool until it open hopefully soonUPDATE 07/3/2019 POOL STILL NOT OPENOld Management:*Had a flood in our apartment and it took 4 hours for someone to even come out to help us* Complained numerous times about our rental dryer not working and having to run it 4-5 times to get things dry....nothing ever done- Since the new year I personally witnessed a car vandalism, there have been 2 cars stolen, an apartment break in (in the middle of the day) and another set of car break ins that have happened by building 3202 and 3200- Noisy neighbors and thin walls

UPDATE: New management took over the complex a month ago and I didn’t expect much of an improvement if any, but they have SERIOUSLY disappointed me. The dog poop trash cans needed to be emptied a month ago and they STILL haven’t been even though the office has been informed more than once. Now plastic dog poop bags are overflowing out of the trash cans and one I saw had like 10 or more plastic bags on the ground where people are unable to fit their bag in the trash can!! I can’t understand why after a month maintenance or whoever hasn’t had 15 minutes to empty all the dog poop trash bins. Literally makes no sense. I have no idea why it’s so hard to run an apartment complex. Maintenance still sucks. A lady at the office told me my work orders would take a couple days... it took about 3 weeks and all of them are still not complete. Also, my car was stolen from right in front of my apartment two months ago. Then about a month ago, my neighbors car was stolen. And apparently I was not the first person to have their car stolen. My other neighbor witnessed someone smash in someone’s window on an SUV but the person got away. So I would not consider it a safe community. I have told the office multiple times that the light pole near my building where the two cars were stolen continuously goes out leaving it very dark over here. I blame that light being out for the cars being stolen. Two months after I initially informed the office about the light, it’s still not been fixed and who even knows if it’s been reported to duke energy. I’m so sick of having to fight for the things I deserve when it comes to apartment living. If things EVER get better here, I will update again. Until then, I 100% do not recommend.———————————————————————-Maintenance is absolutely terrible! There is only one maintenance guy for the whole complex. Work orders will take weeks or months to be taken care of. The office lady is nice but is very unresponsive to emails and voicemails. I’ve had to follow up on emails regarding work orders three and four times before even receiving a response. The ground around the whole complex doesn’t drain well so anytime it rains the ground is muddy for days afterwards. It’s super inconvenient to walk my dog outside when it’s muddy. The apartments are somewhat old and the bare minimum is done to keep them up to date. The only good thing about this place is that it’s a fairly quiet community and being that the apartments are old, the pricing is better than other places in the area. Also, the fact that there are no breed restrictions is nice since I have a pit bull mix.Overall - I would not recommend.

Car break-ins are common, property management has extremely high turnover rate (most were great, but the manager that started in March 2020 is a shameless liar), renovated units are just old units with a paint job and some cheap laminate counters with unevenly cut edges, noise and smoke/weed smells penetrate from neighboring units, and rodent infestations are to be expected. Not recommended--there are far better options nearby.

Terrible noise from surrounding neighbors, pest control problem with roaches must be in the walls. Neighbors above me smoked pot and the smell drifted into my smoke free apt via vents. My advice is to pay attention to the turn around of residents. Management says they will help but I had to pursue corporate to break my lease.

I’ve been here about 5 1/2 months and although it may not be the worse apartment ever, I’ve definitely been in better. The good stuff: for the price of $700-900 the single room is a great size (haven’t seen the doubles). Right near RTP so if you work around the area not that far of a walk or drive. Bus systems are close and there are a lot of stores both in walking and driving distance that I can get to if need be. For the most part it’s been quite and even if some people do have guests or are at the pool people are usually respectful of the time of day and day of week and the noise dies down. Considering this is an apartment that allows big “aggressive breed” dogs it being between $700-900 is a blessing since most apartment I’ve seen are close to $1200 for big dogs. The bad: There hasn’t been any major problems with my apartment but there are plenty of minor problems that can become stressful. This apartment is old and it seems like it was put together in a rush on closer inspection. Maintenance could be much better. Whenever I called they came rather quick considering there’s only 2 or 3 for the intire property, however anything that I called them to fix either wasn’t really fixed (broke again the following week), fixed but then caused another problem, or I fixed myself. These apartments are poorly insulated. Cracks/big gaps under doors, in windows, in the side of window frames, everywhere! There’s even a bigs gap in the wall in the closet with the heating unit like they forgot to put a wall base there. Be prepared for really hot summers and big electric bills. I have always been energy sufficient so I always unplug or turn of something that I’m not using so my bills can usually be between $38-70 but if I was the type of person to keep things plugged in my bill would probably be $65 to god knows what. The dog park they have is simple but could use a few touch up. The dog poop dumpsters and bag areas have been full for about 2 weeks in front of my apartment and aside from maybe 1 or 2 they hardly ever have bags to use. I know that as a dog owner you must always be prepared which is why I always walk with 2 bags just incase but since the apartment supplies bags and a trash specifically for dogs people expect them to have bags and to be emptied on a regular bases so when they’re not some people end up leaving their dogs poop on the ground and the trash cans over flow and bags of poop are falling out for a number of days. The roach problem is out of this world. We’re around a wooded are so bugs are to be expected however because of the cracks in the doors/windows AND because for some reason the holes in the wall around the plumbing in the bathroom, kitchen, and th ac unit closet (or whatever that is) these roaches are able to easily come from outside, inside the wall, and from your neighbors.I won’t tell anyone not to move in here because like I said it’s a very good apartment for the price and I’m glad I found it on short notice, however if you do choose to move in you’ll be doing some house work the first couple of weeks. I would suggest buying multiple door sweeps to minimize air and bugs, lots weatherstrip foam also to aid in air flow and unwanted bugs, some type of weather tape for gaps in windows, steel wool and caulk to fill in the holes (if you have them), boric acid powder to put in drains and holes (before filling holes up), and some type of screen mesh as an extra precaution for the vents because I know some roaches can make they’re way through them. All of these things can be $-$$$ depending on the brand but don’t let the big brands fool you the cheap stuff works good too.

I lived here a few years ago and it was the worst apartment with the worst management Ive ever dealt with. Took months to get anything fixed and major things like suspicious black mold were painted over instead of being tested. You could literally feel wind coming through some of the walls in places. Most of my neighbors had their apartments broke into, it was pretty well an expected and regular event. I was so relieved when our lease was up and have never looked back until I ran across them on Google just now and got angry at how awful it was.

Review №36

Eh. Its cheap for the access to RTP, theyll negotiate some things at move-in, and they have a very flexible pet policy, but the buildings are old and maintenence is slooooooow.I dont mind living in an older building, but thats a bad combo. The turnaround for minor issues is 1-2 weeks, and if you mention more than one thing in a work order, something usually gets forgotten. Ive had the same set of tools left behind in my apartment twice, so the maintenace guy is either overworked or a little distracted. Its worse for community issues. We had a tree down and a burst pipe this year, and even after finding the pipe (which was 300 ft away and still had water seeping into my closet, damaging my dresser), management took a few weeks to hire the cheapest contracter they could find. They definitely need to hire at least one more guy for maintenance, and maybe an assistant property manager, as well. With buildings this old, the upkeep is higher, but the financing is definitely paid off by now, so itd be prudent to use those savings to keep the place up a little better. The complex was built in the 70s, so I expected the thin walls, drafty areas, and sticky windows and doors, but Ive called maintenance multiple times on the same issues, and our definition of resolved differs significantly. I mentioned the windows when I moved in and was told it was probably an easy fix with the side brackets, but despite multiple requests detailing the issues with each specific window, I still have several that either need to be propped open so they dont slam shut, or require a Herculean effort to be opened even partway. My sidewalk also floods to a depth of inches every time it rains, the gutters are broken, and there are pavers missing from the path across the grass, so if it rains, Im going to have wet and/or muddy pants and shoes. My carpet is damp, too, from rain seeping under the walls. My first impression from the landscaping alone was that this was the projects, and I almost didnt make it to the leasing office. Trees have been coming down, but theyre not being replaced, and its so bare of landscaping it really looks unwelcoming and uncaring. I had a coworker staying with me for several weeks while she looked for a place in town, and on the first few nights she wasnt even comfortable going to her car at night. This place just looks project-y. It really is a good neighborhood, and lots of my neighbors have lived here quite a while, it just doesnt look as welcoming as it is. On her second week over, my coworker took the trash out at midnight in her jammies.Parking has not been an issue for me, as I know it is at other complexes nearby. Each unit has a labelled spot, with free spots sprinkled in front of each building. If thats all taken, theres more just a few yards away. They also redid the parking lot recently, so each spot is very clearly labelled.Water and trash are included in the rent, and electricity runs me $65-95 depending on the season. Its hard to keep the apartment comfortably warm without spending a fortune, as its so drafty you can feel the air sucking through the cracks in the doors and windows.Security wise, the parking is very well-lit, and no one ever has to park far from a building, so Im not aware of any problems there. One of my neighbors had a broken window pane, but it looked like it came from the inside. I dont know if it was criminal activity, but it did take maintenance the standard 1-2 week turnaround time to repair the window and remove the broken glass, and it was cold out when this happened. All that said, this place is really, really cheap for something so close to RTP. I have a four minute commute to work. If the sidewalk issue were fixed and I could actually open all my windows I would sign another lease in a hot minute. Well see if its better in another unit.UPDATE: hired an additional maintenance guy (finally!), will see if things improve.
