A coworker of mine and her husband own this lil gem! Michael my Barber is beyond skilled! As long as he is there I will go nowhere else! Super chill atmosphere and everyone is very personable. I have been going for 6 years now and have never had a bad cut. From longer hair to short always get compliments on my hair, even from other stylists. I did however learn early on when asked what I wanted to just leave it up to him and let him do his thing. Appointments are booked with him quick...a month out so hurry up and get that cut!

Michael is the best! My boys have been coming since they opened their doors and dont want to go anywhere else. He takes his time, is patient and so good at what he does.

I felt very comfortable and safe and this shop; which is rare in my experience of getting haircuts as a trans person. Max was my barber today. Throughout the experience he was kind and professional. He took the time to listen to and talk through what I wanted. I am so happy with the results, my haircut looks great and really fits my style and personality. They were also very willing to accomodate accessibility needs for me as a disabled person. I absolutely recommend this shop (and especially Max) to anyone but especially to trans people in need of a barber.

Yo the dude with the big beard is the man he cleaned me up better than a kid at a catholic school he cut my hair even tho I got the date wrong and came a day early if you trying to be fresh in some lemon peppa steppes then get your hair cut here you will be so fresh and so clean

Not worth the price. $40 dollars for a less than 20 minute hair cut is highway robbery. I don’t mind spending $40 dollars on a hair cut but I expect more than a quick trim and to feel rushed out of the chair for the next guy. No attention or time taken by the barber.On top of that, I asked to get my face shaven as I had an interview later that afternoon. The barbers response was “I’m not sure if we are doing those right now.” Like okay, I get that because of Covid things are different but the shop seemed back to normal. People weren’t wearing masks, no social distancing, etc. And that was all that was said on the matter. No effort to try and find out if he could do it or not. Basically my hair cut was over so it was time to get out of the chair it felt like.If you’re looking to pay premium prices for an average haircut this is the place for you. Otherwise I suggest finding a shop to pay that at where they will actually take their time with your hair.

I went here when I was visiting Denver to have my previous haircut fixed (from another salon) and L&S did an excellent job (at almost half the price of the other place).

She kept me involved enough to find exactly what I was looking for, and was skilled enough to make it happen. It definitely felt like a more personalized experience than any other place Ive been to. The quality of service has been degrading with each of my visits and my last rock bottom visit will be my last. I can’t believe I was charged (thankfully refunded) for the haircut I received. I have honestly been embarrassed to leave the house and have an appointment elsewhere to see what can be done to fix it. Barber? More like butcher.*Edit*I received an email after writing this review. They chastised me for writing it and “wished me luck”.

Made an appointment then had to cancel. Cancelled 4 days before the appointment. Business still charged me for missing the appointment even though their website says they only need 24 hours notice. Owner refused to refund my money and was very rude about it.Hand to file a chargeback with my credit card company who returned my money after investigating and finding the business violated their own terms of service after I provided them with my cancelation email.I dont understand why they had to be so difficult and rude about an error they made.

Id been growing and tending my beard for a year with hardly any trimming, and felt that it was time to entrust it to the hands of a pro, so I booked an appointment with Alison.She did not disappoint! Not only was she a pleasure to talk with, but she heard my needs and delivered what I was looking for; she left room for my input during the process too, which I feel is very responsible. She narrated what she was doing during much of the beard trim because she knew I wanted to be able to do some touch-ups at home, which I highly, ultra appreciate.Now maybe my grandma will stop nagging me about looking like a lost person, and Ill bet my wife will be thrilled too!One other note about Alison--she worked at Super Cuts in days gone by, but they fired her... because she took too long and cared too much with each haircut. Good news: she has found a place to work where thats not a problem! So, when you walk in to Steel + Lather, expect that the haircut will take longer than 15 minutes, because this is artistry, not machinery. Thats reflected in the cost, but I feel that its worth it every once in a while if you can swing it.

I always get a good haircut here from David, they never accept walk-ins so just make an appointment. Having lived in Colorado for the last 6 years and trying many many shops.. I have come to understand that most barber shops in this state really lack skilled barbers... most shops will seem great by like including a free beer or hair wash or super nice decorated environment but the haircut will be terrible or mediocre at best. What I love about this place is that its to the point, its no frills quality haircut with good fades..I will note its a very bro environment and they could do a better job cleaning the hair off the walls but all the guys are always nice and welcoming to all who have an appointment.***100% recommend ***

I was a loyal customer until I had to reschedule an appointment one day.Dont ignore the warning that pops up on their website: theres no phone number and they dont answer email. So if the rescheduling system isnt working (it wasnt when I needed it), theres no way to reschedule no matter how long in advance you try, and they will charge you full price for the no-show.If S&L were as responsive to customers as it is to these reviews, I would have given it five stars.

One of the best barber shops I have ever been in. They are not the cheapest but they are worth every penny. If you want an extremely clean and professional hair cut, go here. They are also real friendly and just dope people to be around.

Personally Im not a client here but my husband is and Freddy always does an amazing job. Freddy has a way with sculpting a mans facial and head hair. All the barbers there all seem to know what theyre doing, everyone always comes in with a smile and leaves with a smile. The barbers offer drinks to those waiting and always have great attitudes. Even though Im not a client the barbers are very friendly towards me. The atmosphere suits the artists that work there, its never a dull time here!

I needed a cut while visiting and was able to get an appointment same day. I really liked what they did and would go back if I lived there. Plus it was cheaper than my normal barber so that was even better.

Been here twice since recently moving to downtown Denver, CO. Had my cuts by 2 out of the 4 barbers so far -- to no complaints. Very laid back, yet professional atmosphere that is efficient. Just looking at their online bookings, it is clear their biz is booming (for good reason).$25/haircut is reasonable. Theyve done a great job with me and are extremely relatable to any type of person. I was referred to Alison to get my hairs cut and she is bomb!! I had to take a break from her because our schedules never matched up so I was going to Daniel who was also super great. But hands down Alison is the best hair betch ever! Best hairs cut I’ve ever gotten, evahhh!

I wanted to cancel/reschedule one and a half hours before my appointment due to a court related proceeding that was running long. Apparently there is no way to cancel or even call less than two hours before an appointment, and they charge you for the full haircut. As an attorney things come up that are out of my control and it would be nice if they were willing to work with you on rescheduling an appointment due to an important work related event. I’ll be looking for a new barbershop that is more accommodating to a professional with a busy schedule.

Such a great barbershop!! These gentlemen are on point. Affordable prices for superb service with a great atmosphere. I came in with ideas and some picture; I finally decided to cut off my chest length hair. Mike took great care of me and gave me a better cut than I had hoped for!! No need to go to any other shop.

Once in a while I well always get a haircut from Mike hes nice and chill to talk to and he is one of the best people I met in My 14 years of life

Walked into today from out of town for a beard trim and shape up. The barber in the first chair could not have been less friendly. Said I needed an appointment and that most of the barbers won’t do just beard trims. When I asked if he could help me make appointment, he handed me a card with the website and more or less said I could try another barber shop.

Great hospitality and Professionalism. If you need a nice fade, buzz,or top-cut its the place to go; Im sure they can do it all no matter what type of hair you have or beard. They pay attention to detail taking you through every part of your haircut to make sure you get what you want every time. Sean (Mooks) is my guy, but if he isnt available I would never hesitate to go Moses or Michael!

That fade though! Went in, didnt ask for anything specific--transitioning from having long hair--and got hooked up. Moses got down on a low fade (1 on the sides) short on top. I appreciated his attention to detail; definitely takes his craft seriously. The results are phenomenal and the service is excellent. Highly recommend if you wanna look fresh as **expletive**!!!.

My earlier review was rude and based off of my own misinformation. I have come to edit my review to relfect my recent experience.The shop has a small, intimate atmosphere. The men working there are very experienced. I only got a beard trim, but it was very reasonably priced and they did an amazing job. I didnt appreciate that my guy trimmed my sides without asking to blend with my beard because they ended up being much shorter than I wouldve liked. Either way, these men do amazing work and I will be back .

Best barber shop in Denver with personable, expert stylists who could be giving $90 Education Director cuts at Toni & Guy. They will set you up right if you see them. Booking through the Web site is a breeze and the one-hour reminder is very helpful. I wont go anywhere else in Denver now.

Ive had good haircuts, but I missed one appointment last week and they charged me a full haircut for it. I kind of get it since they coulda filled the slot with someone else, but Ive been going here for 2.5 years and only missed this one. Theyve rescheduled on me twice, so seems real lame to charge me a fee.

No more Floyd’s for me. S&L is the best haircut in town and great service. AJ was awesome and friendly. Will be back.

Ive been getting my hair cut by Mike and he also cuts both my kids. Very professional style he can get down with the Clippers. All around great barber from the cut to the experience,I walk out every time feeling like a million bucks

I had high expectations for this place but was terribly disappointed, and I will not be going back here again. I scheduled an appointment online and showed up five minutes early. I was greeted by the staff of three, none of which had an enthusiastic attitude whatsoever and hardly looked up from their phones. I waited an extra 10 minutes for the barber to finish up on his last customer, but as I sat down was told that he doesnt cut womens hair. All three employees had seen me walk in and hadnt bothered to say a thing or question it in the 15 minutes I sat waiting. I was told I could get a trim if I waited 45 minutes, but no other apology or reconciliation was made. Overall, it felt unprofessional and lacking hospitality all across the board.

This is a great environment and location. The staff is extremely professional and knowledgable when it comes to working with its customers and are always friendly. If your looking for a great Haircut or other service that they provide Steel and Lather comes highly recommended from this customer.

Had my first ever beard trim with Alison today, and she was awesome. Walked me through the whole thing, let me ask all the questions I wanted, suggested a few things for future maintenance, and I walked out looking a hell of a lot better than I did when I walked in.If you beard needs work, definitely give Alison a shout at the LoDo location!

Got perhaps my best haircut ever from David yesterday. I get kind of an unusual cut, so barbers rarely nail it the first time. But David took his time, was thorough, and absolutely killed it. I will be going back, no question.

I’ve been coming weekly for the past two/three years. This place is my weekly church service, this is the only “set in stone will not miss appointment” that I have. I’ll miss Christmas before I’ll miss my weekly cut. Could not be more pleased with the service, atmosphere, and vibe this place has.

Low key barber shop staffed with some of the best in the biz.

I accidentally put the appointment in my calendar a half hour late, and even though I showed up right when my scheduled appointment would have ended, they refused to reschedule my appt without charging me for the missed appointment. I tried to reach the owner, but no one answers the phone and the owner did not respond via email for 5 days refusing to let me reschedule. Lost a customer forever.
