Right now Chicago is on a heat advisory, but my family and I dont have an air conditioner. So my mother called this YMCA since we live in the little village area but dont have a car and take public transportation. So she asked if it was okay to go over there and cool down. Now the lady who answered said no you cant, and you need to pay $20. Like I said Chicago is under a heat advisory and Im pretty sure other people are calling places and asking where are places to cool off and the lady didnt even know herself and she said she couldnt find anything. This is a gym and a place where kids and families come during the summer time and the employees dont know about other places to cool down. Also Me and my mother have asthma as well and in this weather were just glad we havent gotten really sick. We just really want to know where we can cool off in this weather.
I love how theyve prioritized making the Y a community centered atmosphere. The colors, the designs, the art work and the flags represent the people of the community, its roots.Gym is small, has a great soccer field, inside & out. Overall I really like it!
Helpful staff- helped direct me to a Y that has a swimming pool. Multi Million dollar facility w/ No Pool- go figure! Elderly and people w/disabilities benefit from low impact weightlessness in a pool. This place Aint got it! Otherwise a brand new easy to find big blue building in an underserved community.
I’m wondering when you guys are going to open up because I went today and their was no one I’m really interested in going here.
We signed up months ago and finally tried to get into the habit of going. One of the selling points for me was the childcare in the evening. So, today when I tried to go with my children... no childcare. It took us 45 minutes to get there due to road construction only to turn around and go home.I’ve taken my daughter to a couple of dance classes on Saturdays. Not a single person greets you when you come in the door. There were at least 3-4 staff members in sight and no one made us feel welcome any of the times we’ve visited. We may need to take our business elsewhere.
This Y has a lot of character and is full of life! It would be really cool if this Y had a pool but the 2 soccer fields are a nice touch. The family atmosphere is much needed in this neighborhood. Im happy to know places like this exist!
The facility offers the best of what exercise can benefit. All the staff members here are very helpful to any questions and activities that they have, and are very friendly to all members. There are many programs for both children and adults that can help to work with one another, as a family. The facility is perfect for people or families to interact with one another to both exercise and to have fun! Everyone should visit it for the high efficiency that they offer in everything, including the way that youll feel afterwards.
One of the nicest Ys in the city. High quality equipment and some great soccer fields. No pool unfortunately, but the staff here is helpful as well.
This review is for the gym facility only. The room with the free weights is incredibly small. It can hold 10 at max and thats almost 1 person for each piece of equipment. For some reason they even have an employee sitting at a desk they built in this cramped space literally 5 feet away from you watching you work out - extremely awkward. There is only 1 set of free weights, very little equipment, and after working out for a couple minutes the place feels like a sauna. Even if you have to spend a little more its worth going somewhere else.
Ive been coming here since it opened. But this past year has been terrible. Me and 15 other people considering taking our money elsewhere. Bad communication skills, not letting us know about events that will have basketball court closed. This year they have gone above and beyond to show us our membership dont mean squat. So disappointed in this place.
Both the basketball courts are almost always occupied with children from the day care program. They let little kids run wild all over the place including the weight room.
As a former YMCA employee and long-time member, I can give an honest review of this Y.1) Classes are canceled often and communication is very poor.2) Prices are way too high and offer pitiful discount to members3) No member appreciation whatsoever. They used to give shirts on your birthday but that has stopped.4) The coffee they give here is very weak and tastes horrible.5) There is no pool here, but staff is instructed to say Our pool is not here its at another Y. Im sorry but if the pool is not there, nobody wants to travel to another YMCA.6) The indoor soccer field is humid as hell and the sauna is either broken or smells.7) There is nobody to spot you when you lift weights due to the budget.8) Roaches and rats are common. However, there are many positives about this YMCA.1) Never too crowded and dont have to fight for machines2) Friendly staff3) Allowed to rent equipment free4) Spacious facilities5) Member referral discounts6) Plenty of parking7) Safe place for the community away from violence.
Dont go to this gym. Honestly a waste of money they host too many events in the basketball gym when theres two soccer fields that can be use but they want to kick us out. Dont waste your money. Go to a better YMCA.
Girl at front desk was very rude. Then tried to charge me for a guest pass when allllll other ys dont qs long as u just use the shower? Way to judge and degrade someone. Once she found out I lived in my car she was very mean and judgmental so not go here
Its o.k., but when trying 2 get there @ 1630 hours, this is a burden. I plan 2 join the Hammond YMCA, & discontinuing my membership here. I wouldnt recommend this site 2 a serial killer. Once u step into the place, I will know whats up.
Its like an all you can eat buffet
Great place to come to unwind and have a great work out

Okay that is familiar my children decide whether they exercise with me or alone activities within the site so you do not like it I badly needed other exercise machines with weights to your legs to keep a little cleaner good machines buttocks and do not let children run in the halls where the machines are a pool would be great I pay for my child apart in a swimming program would be good to be here at the YMCA but happy to be with my son doing activity.
Excellent place to exercise personally I love yoga class with Marion teachers in the morning and Naima in the afternoonCycling classes with Master Jhon. The Daycare is very good. There I had my son and my granddaughter Principal Nilsa and the teachers and the environment at the YMCA make you feel like Family.
Irresponsible while I and my team played soccer, they grabbed my wallet and emptied my money and nobody can answer me to find out who it was ... they have security cameras and they dont work or maybe the employees are the incompetent and dont want to do it. their work, be careful, do not leave anything to oblivion, there is no trust even with the same race.
More or less
Okay, you only need a pool, they have been saying for years that they are going to put one and nothing only promises.
Very clean
My question is if this gym has a nursery. I have been told that some have but I dont remember where.
