Despite all the negative reviews, I decided to go into this gym and see for myself since its right around the corner from my place. The owner welcomed me so warmly. She told me she had taken over and is trying to redo the entire gym. She showed me around, told me her plans and goals, and I can see the improvements from week to week. She is there every single day from open to close, shes a hard worker, and you can tell she cares about the gym. I would cut her some slack if something negative happens because she is doing a ton of work mostly by herself. I dont mind the sign-up fee, because I am more than happy to help fund all the work she has put into making this gym better. Besides, $35 for a monthly membership in the city is very inexpensive. I am not a serious weightlifter or gym-goer, so this gym is perfect for my needs. And to my eyes its beautifully well done! Every time I go, the owner always greets me with a smile, we chit chat for a bit, and she makes the experience an even more positive one! I dont know anything about this gym prior to this summer, so I cant speak to the differences from before til now, but I will say that I have had a great experience thus far.
Been coming for a while and it has been improving the last few months. New owners have been renovating the place slowly but so far have replaced old equipment, fixed the AC, added mirrors and painted. Not a gimmicky gym, just a space for you to work on yourself.
Ive seen this place go through some huge changes over the past few months. All of which are good. Theyve changed the name to Pilsens Gym, added lots of new equipment and been extremely strict with how they manage covid-19. Cleanliness is a big factor here. This is the only gym Ive been to where you get your own individual cleaning spray bottle and towel to wipe off equipment when youre done using it. They also have members of staff walking around to make sure people are masked properly. I went to L.A. Fitness not too long ago and they are still having their guests use communal spray bottles. So even though this is a smaller independently run gym, its cleaner than the major gyms in Chicago. I also love the fact that this is female owned. Been coming here for a year now and they keep getting better. Thank you!
These people are thirsty for money, they keep charging my girlfriend the fees and stuff. And make it so difficult to try and cancel your membership say “you need to follow certain rules and regulations” like wow this lady is so unprofessional! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED DONT COME HERE IF YOU SIGN UP YOU ARE SIGNING UP FOR LIFE AND MULTIPLE EXCUSES AND FEES ON HOW YOU CAN NOT CANCEL
The owner she is extremely rude and bad personal skills. She seems to be nice but as soon as you turn your back she stars taking about you. Not highly recommend
The owner is very disrespectful, at first she seem like a good person but turned out that she’s very rude. I had to cancel my prescription because of personal issues and also found something much closer to my place and cheaper and I called to tell her I have to cancel my subscription and she asked me why and I gave her those reasons and everything went well. Next thing I know I get charged the next month and I’m like what the hell? I called her and told her what’s up and she told me I never called her to cancel but will cancel it now, and I was like wow am I the crazy one or what? She literally hung up the phone on me after telling me she’s gonna cancel now. Why would I forget to cancel something that I don’t use especially during this harsh time, never ever again going to that place. By the way I disputed that transaction to my bank so either way I’m getting my money back but she gets what she deserves which is a star, I wish 0 star. I was never treated like this in my life.
I hate to be this person and leave reviews, but I’m incredibly disappointed. I have called on two separate occasions, in which I was placed on hold for more than 10 min. I called to cancel my membership, (for COVID reasons) and the first time the customer service rep was dry, rude and became flustered when she “couldn’t find me in the system”. I’ve worked customer service for many years and understand the frustration of a work load, people and perhaps being understaffed. I decided I would call back another day or visit. I’ve been charged since late summer, without going to the gym and decided to call again. When I called again and stated I wanted to cancel, I was placed on hold for 13 min. No apology, no thanks for holding. Over it, safe to say I won’t be going back even if we go back to “normal”.
Prompted to write this review as it is something like 80 degrees outside and currently about 90 in here. I have mixed feelings about this gym.Positives:- very affordable- good equipment selection including free-weights, guided weight machines and ample cardio machines- steam room (heh)- the guy with the beard at the front desk is very nice- parking- Cleaning staff are pretty thorough and very kind- Classes included in membership- Not crowded ever reallyNegatives:- Why is it so hot in here all the time? If it’s going to stay this way, get rid of the steam room. You don’t need it.- The mirrors. Why is there only a small area with full length mirror? The studio doesn’t even have mirrors! If you are a serious lifter, this place is awful for minding your form because there is legit only one place with a mirror.- Kids Klub looks sketch as heck. I wouldn’t put my kid there- There’s a personal trainer guy here that teaches terrible form and routine. Someone is going to get injured. I’ve been here over a year now and I haven’t seen any of his clients grow in their fitness. Stay away.
A bit overpriced for what you get. $35 per month for old cramped equipment and a steam room. Plus the lady didnt explain any terms and conditions such as a year commitment she kept poking me to pull out my wallet and give her $135 and didnt listen to what I was asking. No that first impression was DISTASTEFUL and I will take my business elsewhere.
Beginning in March, this place had been automatically charging people despite the lockdown order. When we called to cancel we were unable to reach anyone.Just called in again because I saw they had charged me for September and October and I haven’t been there since the lockdown started. But they automatically started charging accounts when they reopened in September and didn’t let me close my account until I paid the $60.I had no idea they reopened. Given the rise in covid cases and our community’s disproportionate number of covid cases, I don’t know how anyone would feel safe going back to a gym. The level of communication makes it impossible not to feel scammed.
I asked one of the gym members to put on a mask and he tried intimidating me. He was allowed to stay at the gym, unreal. The owner said hed wear a mask next time he was there, but that wont happen as soon as she isnt looking. The issue was that he created a disgusting workout environment. Owner needs to be doing more
Members check your accounts, this gym has been continuously charging the monthly fee and pocketing it - NONE have gone to the staff. You will have to contact your banks to cancel these charges.Although they’re planning on re-opening/re-branding, none of the staff have been contacted or will be re-hired.I was a regular member who came to befriend the previous staff, and for the management/ownership to mistreat them previously and currently are reasons why I will not be supporting them nor will I trust the business to ensure safety during COVID.
Ive had a good experience as a member up until this point. Staff is great, prices are fair, and the location cant be beat. This being said, Pilsen Fitness closed on March 19th 2020 due to Covid-19 and have continued to charge their members while being closed. With the Stay at Home Order in effect, it would be great to have our fees frozen or cancelled while we cannot access the gym. Several members have contacted them, but none have heard back (to my knowledge). Would love to hear from them!
Just joined, but its been great so far! Staff is friendly. Gym is small but well laid out, so theyve managed to fit a ton of different equipment in there without it being too cramped. In the weight room, it seems like people do a good job of keeping the free weights organized--plus, I noticed I am not the only woman lifting weights, which is awesome. It is a little outdated, but overall its clean, which I think is way more important than having everything be brand new.Biggest downside is that the locker room isnt great--its small, and if you wanted to shower and get ready for work or something, they dont have towels or hair driers. Also has had a funky smell? I live nearby so its easier to just shower at home, not a big deal for me, but something to be aware of.Overall, this gym is a really good deal (especially if you sign up for a year in advance with a promotion), and Id recommend checking it out.
Great local gym, friendly staff really good combo for the price. Found thew place to be clean and well maintain. Equipment isnt new but kept in good shape. I did a day pass for $10 and would do it again on my next visit.
Great neighborhood gym facility! Been going there for two years in the mornings. The equipment is decent, their aerobics room is large and accommodating. The space between the weight and workout machines are tight but okay. Friendly staff. Great membership rate.
Have been a member for several years and its only out of pure convenience that I chose the gym. On the one hand the staff is very friendly. On the other hand the steam room which is the main reason I go to this gym. It is constantly being fixed due to some sort of issue. The hours are not great especially on weekends. I am paying 20$ a month at the moment through a promotion they had, but once thats done I will definitely be finding a new gym.
This is a good gym for the price and community. There are pros and cons thoughPros:Great staffGood priceLots of equipmentA variety of really solid group classesA variety of equipment areas.A well.maintained and well cleaned areasConsNo one reracks their gosh dang weightsSome of the equipment is a lil crowded in areas
Its kinda pricey makes me upset when I see someone is paying 20 a month and I pay 35. I go almost everyday. Its kinda junky and very hot at times but the employees are so awesome and helpful. The cleaning lady does her best to keep it very clean and that makes me feel happy. Thanks guys:)
Meant to write this back in August 2017 so I cant comment how theyve been after that.I had been a member of this gym for about 2 years and when I went to renew they could no longer honor the price I had been paying because my membership had been under my roommates name. Me and my roommate signed up together and she had did the contract and the payment for us and they knew of this as well. After the first year, I went to renew and they were able to renew just fine without my former roommate. After the 2nd year I went to renew again and they said I couldnt renew with the price I had been paying because it was under her name. What I dont understand is why wasnt this an issue the first time I renewed? I tried calling corporate like I was advised and I never heard back. Additionally, you would think they would do their best to follow up to keep customers but its almost as if they didnt care. For the price I was being asked to pay I decided to take my money to another gym that offers more amenities.I really liked working out here because it really feel like a community gym and everyone was friendly but this incident in itself left me with a bad taste.
Super friendly staff, clean spaces but still hardcore weight areas. Free fitness classes and all kinds of machines. Best gym Ive been to in Chicago.
Its convenient if you live in Pilsen. It has enough equipment to choose from. Staff is very friendly. Reasonable membership prices.
People are nice and the gym is usually fine. Equipment is quite old but generally usable, and it is sometimes quite hot inside. Main complaint is the very limited weekend and holiday hours. Annoying it closes at 2pm.
So, I had a membership there and the sales lady did not do a great job explaining to me what I was signing up for. I didnt realize that until it came time to cancel my membership due to the fact that I was moving out of the neighborhood. So make sure you ask LOTS of questions on what you are signing up for. Anyways, I didnt know it was a year contract which meant I had to hop on the next plane for china, find the president there and kiss his right big toe and his left knee cap. then return back to the state and do 100 pushups in the glass box of the willis tower, then stand on top of a vacant building and pee over the edge, then drive back to my home state and meet and greet the people that live in my old house and then fax them proof that i am moving by Friday..... WHY do I have to jump through HOOPS to cancel my membership!? Its just a GYM. Ridiculous. That pretty much ruined any chance of me ever signing up again. I shouldnt have to go through extremes to prove anything other than the fact that I want to cancel my membership. It wasnt this deep at LA Fitness or any other gym I have attended. Whoever wrote that policy should highly consider revising! That is all.
Hello.I noticed that you do not have a website and I think of offering you my services, creating you one at a good price. :)
This place is awesome, really affordable, and a great set of gear for the cost. Its relatively uncrowded throughout the day (except around 7pm) but the regulars there are all quick to help as a spotter, and the staff are all really nice and helpful.
Nice staff. No juice heads. Good price.
I signed up for this gym because of the steam room. I rarely get to use it because it’s constantly out of service. I have made multiple trips here that result in me just turning around and leaving which is a waste of time. I gave it a chance and now I’m stuck paying for something that I can’t use. Some might say it’s a gym to workout but the steam room was a big part of the sale for me personally and they haven’t held up their end of the deal.
Friendly staff really good combo for the price
Ive been a member at this gym for several years and I have few good things to say about it. On the plus, they have a yoga class twice a week, and the location is convenient. However that is not enough to entice me to renew my membership when it expires. The hours they are open on weekends are laughable, and now they are closing the showers and steam room even earlier, at 12:45pm on Sundays. Im thinking the next step will be to just close on weekends. The equipment is old and many treadmills dont function properly, the incline doesnt work or if it does its all rickety. This gym is more expensive than other gyms, yet they offer less and less. Supposedly they are under a new owner or manager, but the only change Ive seen is they are closing earlier.
I had been here for the longest snd this place is great if you want to loose weight. I used to be 139 pounnds and now I went down to 104 puonds. If I was able.to make it you will make it too!
Great gym with lots of equipment, especially free weights and bars. Though this is not a place with a lot of amenities, its just a gym and can get a bit disorganized. They do have classes too.
On one hand: the staff is extremely helpful, the facilities are remarkably clean, the machines are varied and the price is great. Theres no other gym in our area of Pilsen and we will continue to go there to work out as long as we live here.On the other hand: the cardio machines are old- no personal TV screens and no ability to listen to the wall-mounted TVs (which dont always work). The classes that are popular are so packed you dont have a lot of room inside. The personal training system is a disaster- the three trainers we have tried to work with are inconsistent and unreliable and we made the mistake of signing a contract which we are held to even though we cant get trainers to show up when they are scheduled. I wish they could focus some energy on these items rather than just trying to get more members.
Clean facility with a wide range of well taken care equipment, friendly staff, and good variety of classes.
Affordable neighborhood gym offering some classes, a good variety of equipment, and friendly staff
Great place to exercise and no one will judge you.
Small but largely unknown so never fills up. The staff and instructors are also very friendly and helpful.
Just joined recently, I like it so far, just sucks there is lack of space and everything is very close together. The stair steppers seem to always be “out of order”.
Their website does not seem to work
Lovely staff and very clean place! :D
I like working out here
Its great the bad part is theirs no sauna
Great cheap gym
Clean neighborhood gym. Friendly and engaged staff.
Friendly and great environment
Work related
Terrible
Clean but small

.
Pésimo servicio al cliente no es como antes discriminación por no ablar inglés son muy groseras quiere uno Canselar y solo te dan largas no volveré a este gym
That they are not punctual with their schedules, as they opened at 8:00 AM today and I was waiting for more than 40 minutes and they never opened what a bad experience
My favorite place I like the atmosphere the staff visited it almost daily
The truth is a place that has bad reviews but most are false excuses that people put their heads to not meet their goals and stop attending, I dare to boast this gym as a wonder, although it has some points to work to be perfect It is one of the best in Chicago in reference to its prison, and the best thing is that it breaks with the scheme of the large chains in which you if you are a member of a gym you can attend any other in the same chain because this to my point of Sight can be dangerous and lend yourself so that people can steal you in the pilsen gym, it is not like that here, everyone makes you feel like a family.
When will someone know?
A very clean and pleasant place to run
Excellent place
