My dog Avalanche needed surgery in his abdominal region and I can say that Dr. Tony Kremer did an amazing job on him. His stitches were well done clean and I had no issues after. Avalanche has the wellness package and has been coming here for 2 years and they have given him all the care he needed and vaccines under the package deal. I think all clinics should have wellness packages but Old Town was by far the most affordable and reliable packages for your furry friends health compared to other clinics that charge outrageous prices just for you to be seen and for the smallest things. Overall, I cant be happier putting Avalanche in this clinic for his health. Also they have a wonderful vets, Dr. Allen is also amazing and she has been looking after Avalanche when I bring him. She is very caring and attentive towards peoples pets. You can tell she gives her all into helping each one of her patients and owners. She is always reassuring and guiding owners on what to do and how to care for their pets. I highly recommend her for first time visitors. She is AMAZING! Thanks again to Dr. Kremer and Dr. Allen for the work that you do and the help with Avalanche, and to all the staff.
I have been taking my cat here for almost two years now. They have always done a great job. The vets, assistants, and front desk workers are always really nice. They do a great job taking care of my cat and answering my questions. They handled the pandemic really well, providing care in the safest way possible. Now that I am fully vaccinated and they have reopened the lobby it is nice to talk to the vets and staff face to face again. This is a really nice place. The parking lot, which is right in front of the front door, is really convenient.
Really great with getting our pup in quickly for a tooth extraction. Then after the surgery, the following day, they called to check in to see how he was mending. Great service, clean facility and helpful staff.
I love them!!! My fur baby loves them and they see him for everything from boarding, vet appts, and grooming. This last time was my last time trying a full groom as my pet was well overdue for a post pandemic/summer cut. I picked him up and he looks perfect!!! I highly recommend
After being a client of OTAC since our dog was a puppy we have noticed a significant deterioration in service. When calling for an appointment for a possible ear infection, I was told the next available was 8 days out. This is after multiple poor service interactions over the last year being left to wait exorbitant lengths to receive simple care. Ownership has failed to properly staff the facility and simply relies on the increase in demand for pet services in the area. Not an excuse for wasting people’s time. Would highly recommend going elsewhere if your dog needs urgent care or even routine care.
Ive been going here since our dog was a puppy (3+ years now) and I would never recommend this place to anyone. I only continued going to OTACC because of the close proximity to my home; but its just not worth it anymore. I honestly dont know how theyre in business. I have never had a visit last less than 3 hours, including regular vaccinations/check-ins. Despite arriving at slower business hours/days and with only a few people in the lobby, the wait is hours. People try to remain patient but you can tell everyone is frustrated. Ive also never had a visit where my bill was correct; Im either charged for a service that didnt happen or there is miscommunication with the front & back desks. You can also expect to wait on the phone for 20+ minutes just to speak to someone; sometimes Ive even been hung up on!DO NOT GO HERE.
I have nothing but great things to say about OTACC. I began coming here when I was fostering my dog before adopting him because the rescue I got him at partners with Old Town Animal Care to receive free or deeply discounted services. The fact that they are taking the time to help these rescue animals without much in return speaks volumes to their integrity.STAFF/WAIT TIMES:The staff is incredibly professional and helpful and I trust my dog with all of them. I watched this place get ROCKED during the pandemic (triple the number of visits and slammed parking lot because everyone is getting a dog right now) and they handled it with such ease and grace working overtime.I just stopped by today for a nail trim on a Saturday at 1pm and there was no wait time so I feel relieved things have calmed down a bit for them. Last night I emailed them at 8:30pm asking for a list of vaccines to give to a training place Im taking him to and they emailed me back in 10 minutes with a polished document! On a Friday night.PRICING:Ive heard horror stories about some vets ripping people off but I 100% trust this place to recommend only the services that are needed while charging fair prices. I took my dog in one time and thought he might need Xrays and an expensive evaluation and the vet was honest and said it wasnt needed after looking at him and talking to me. Most places would just take your money.Big thank you to the entire staff at Old Town Animal Care Center. Youve won me over and I look forward to continuing to take Tag to you for years to come. You all deserve a spa day after this pandemic.
My best advice is to seriously run from this place. Everytime I go here, there is always one problem or a thousand. Short staffed, system down, overcrowded schedule, payment processing issues, never really know anything upon check in, long hold times or just hang up on you. I had a package plan with them for 3 years now and they have seriously gone down hill. Their customer service is terrible. They are not transparent on prices before your dog is treated for things not included in the package. There is always the excuse of short staff, COVID-19, or the staff not knowing anything about pricing as they do not handle that. They are always busy. Walk ins are a nightmare and they try to keep your pet to get a boarding fee out of you because of they lack time management skills. They put a sign up stating if any one displays rude behavior or uses foul language they will be turned away and terminated permanently from services in the future. I laughed so hard. Maybe if they had a better system and a more organized and transparent process people wouldnt lose their patience and become rude. Everyone is responsible for how they react to old town animal care centers blatant all over the place way of doing business that clearly isnt working or appealing to customers and their pets needs. But the best reaction is to not go at all, not go back, and write a review to inform others to go elsewhere. I have not been turned away but Ive come close as the frustration from their terrible customer service and miscommunication and lack of transparency on prices gets to you and builds over time dealing with them and their terrible business ethics makes your patience run thin and eventually its best to call it quits and go elsewhere as they refuse to listen to the negative reviews and fix these issues. Im at my new vet office signing a new care plan now and it was very informative and easy. For emergency situations go up the street on North Ave and Clybourne the design within reach building. They haveplace called Veterinary Emergency Group. They are helpful, friendly customer service, organized, and transparent. They tell you the price upfront before they do anything and you can refuse and not be charged. But they are so excellent its hard to refuse such great care and hospitality. Plus they have snacks and a comfortable sitting area for you and cushions for your pet to lay on while you wait.
We came upon Old Town Veterinarian when we purchased our new puppy. This is a great place to take your pet.
The vet was wonderful and took time to fully explain our dogs ailments. This was the nicest, cleanest and well equipped vet facility I have ever been to. Sure, its a new location but still, it was a very pleasant experience.
Just found out my dog has a huge kidney stone that is the size of her bladder. This vet has been seeing my dog since she was 6 months old! They told me she was peeing blood because of her anxiety! This kidney stone is huge! Which they could have detected when I took my baby to them months ago and supposedly had an ultrasound ! I am furious my baby could have prevented all the pain if they would have done their job!
The vets that my dogs have met have generally been nice (not always the most knowledgeable), unfortunately the supporting staff hasnt followed through multiple times. This final time, they allowed my dogs blood work to expire before they submitted it for laboratory testing, after letting me know how difficult it was to find my dogs vein to get the blood in the first place. Then they said, well we can just proceed without the blood work-- which makes me feel like either they never needed it in the first place or really dont care about sedating my dog safely if they are ok to proceed without a full workup. I ended up cancelling my dogs procedure with them because I just dont trust this place.
OTAC has been our dogs vet for almost 3 years. The veterinarians are GREAT, however, our last 3 visits have been VERY unpleasant. The new staff/employees just so unprofessional and lack the fundamentals of customer service making said visits unpleasant. Its not all the employees, just a couple. Recently they lost the lab samples prompting us to return for same tests. I will be certain to get names during our next visit and make customers aware. Would hate to start taking our dog to a different Vet due to a few employees lacking skills necessary to provide good customer service.
One of the worst customer service experiences Ive had in my entire life. I tried getting an initial pet exam here and the person I spoke to was nasty and disrespectful about their lack of availability. I looked past it and tried getting a follow up appointment here. Ive left 5+ voicemails and have submitted an application online and have still not spoken to a live person. Terrible, 1 star, Ill drive further before I ever go here.
Ive been a customer of Old Town Animal Care Center (OTACC) for a couple of years now. My dog had an incident this past weekend, which we needed to see a vet immediately because of a potential life and death situation.I called first thing in the morning and was told they were short staffed that day and couldnt see my dog. However, they did tell me that the situation was serious and that my dog needed medical attention right away.I had to take my dog to another vet and pay out of pocket for the vet visit, as it should have normally been covered at OTACC. I later called back OTACC and complained that when I needed our vet the most, I was turned away.I wasnt expecting to be reimbursed for the $3000 out of pocket expenses I incurred as a result of them being short-staffed but I was hopeful they would at least help out. I was told that wouldnt be possible and there was nothing that could be done.I cancelled my dog package and feel like I have been lied to about the services they provide. Why would I pay $38/month for something I cant even use? I wouldnt recommend Old Town Animal Care Center to anyone. If I could give them a 0 I would.
I have the wellness plan for my dog to get vaccines. That is all he ever needs. I call ahead to make an appointment and they tell me they put me on the schedule. He never sees a doctor he only get a shot from the tech. They always tell me it’s an in an out. I mean they don’t have to discuss it with the dog, so why wouldn’t it be. Yet every time I go, it’s the same thing. I get there and they tell me they will add me to the schedule (for an already made appointment). Then I have to wait 15 min in a waiting room with 2 other people. Either they need more techs or they need to just admit they have no appointment system. It’s really just first come first serve. And once I came about an hour before close. Checked in, waited in car till about 5 min before close and they never called to say they obviously couldn’t see me. So I left. I bet they would have just locked up and walked right past me in the parking lot.
Do not recommend. No follow ups (at all). Hugely expensive with little insight provided in the health of your animal. Not a good solution for long term healthcare for your pet. They implemented a new policy since the pandemic started: clients wait in the parking lot and the vet calls you for 2 mins later on after seeing your animal. They come outside with a credit card machine to collect your (huge) payment. Because its been a hugely successful way to increase their top line revenue by spending less time caring for your pet and talking with you, they seem little pressed to adopt a more pragmatic policy to prevent virus spread (dentists, have been open for 9 months now, just saying). If you have the opportunity to invest in the business, i strongly recommend it, I am sure they are making millions of $. If you are looking for a reliable, honest vet which is going to provide health services to your pet long term, I urge you to look somewhere else. That being said, they are usually available quickly, so I am giving two stars. I just hope you dont mind the bill and the lack of insight into your pets health.
OTACC is amazing. I have had many questions and concerns after moving to Chicago and then adopting a second dog. They have patiently answered and explained the what, why, and how of all shots/procedures.I appreciate everyone I have talked with through the phone and the staff that comes to the car to get the dogs. I realize the staff is accommodating as many pets/humans as possible - especially considering the increase in adoptions this year.Depending on your visit, your wait time can be long. Summer/Fall visits when a vet was needed could be up to 2 hours total. Winter visits so far have been considerably shorter, but I also haven’t needed a vet and/or I have called ahead of time as their summer pandemic policy has changed to a winter call ahead at 7:30am policy. The few times I have emailed them documents or document requests, I have had a response within an hour.
Very professional and knowledgeable! Follow up care great. Pandemic guidelines enforced which is good for your pets and owners. Recommended highly!
I have a Yorkie puppy, and I was suggested by the place we have bout it from to use this clinic. We were advised not to take her outside and avoid contact with other dogs till she gets all the necessary vaccines and so we did, we keep he indoors 14/7.The problems started when we had to get her to the clinic. She was perfectly fine until we brought her for vacation she came back with canal cough. They gave her antibiotics we treated her everything went back to normal. Then we had to bring her back for additional vacation, again she came back with canal cough. Antibiotics treatment again and she was back to normal.Same thing for the 3rd time we needed to get her to the vet. Again she came back with upper respiratory infection, antibiotics again.Th puppy feels great until we bring her there, then the problems start and she has to undergo at least a week of antibiotics each time which is very unhealthy and that is the least cause my baby is still suffering from that cough each and every time we bring her there. I’m seriously considering leaving them in a nearby future
Ive been a customer of Old Town Animal Care Center (OTACC) for just about 1 year now and pay monthly for their Puppy Wellness package. My dog had an incident 2 weeks ago in which we needed to see a vet immediately because of a potential life and death situation. I called at approximately 2:30pm on a Monday and was told they were short staffed that day and couldnt see my dog. I had to take my dog to another vet and pay out of pocket for the vet visit, as it should have normally been covered at OTACC. I later called back OTACC and complained that when I needed our vet the most, I was turned away and I at least wanted to be reimbursed for the out of pocket expenses I incurred as a result of them being short-staffed. I was told that wouldnt be possible and there was nothing that could be done. Ive since switched vets and couldnt be happier with my decision. I wouldnt recommend Old Town Animal Care Center to anyone (though their Vet Techs were always very pleasant).
I love this place and how they treat my dog but the new Covid guidelines are hazardous for clients and pet owners without a car, especially in harsh Chicago winters. Pet owners arent allowed inside, even with a mask on and have to wait outside for service with no protection from the harsh below freezing winters. I have been in below freezing weather and been rained on and no attempt to let me in was made even though I had a mask on, ultimately putting both myself and pet at risk. 10-15 wait times for staff to come outside and pick my dog up can feel like an eternity. I really wish they would change this policy. Because it is dangerous and inconsiderate.
This animal care center is very unorganized and will have you waiting in your car or waiting outside for 2 hours just to get your dog in the place! They have a walk-in only policy which is very inconvenient. Yes, it’s convenient to have the OPTION to walk in but to not be able to set an appointment is extremely inefficient! I took my dog to receive her ‘booster’ shot for the flu vaccine and they told us we had a 2 week window to bring her back. WE BROUGHT HER BACK TWICE in the time period (mind you we are coming from the south side, we drive far just to come to this place) and we were turned around both times because of their inability to service us although we arrived at 10:30 am and they close at 8pm. As we are turned away the second time I let them know that she has a booster shot we have been trying to get and asked would she be okay to return tomorrow to get it. They said yes. I head back to the vet only to find out that she was now a day too late and they now wanted me to pay AGAIN for the first shot and pay for the second shot. They went back and forth with me saying that I should have just taken her somewhere else and that they don’t provide “reminders” to bring your dog in. First of all, I didn’t need a reminder, I BROUGHT HER IN MULTIPLE TIMES. (Also, y’all do send reminders, I happened to get one in my email after I had already brought her) and second, you saying that I should have just brought her somewhere else instantly shows me that y’all don’t really value me as a customer and this relationship can EASILY be terminated. Lost a customer. BYE.
I recently adopted a pup and the shelter I adopted her from was covering the procedure so I was brought to OTAC because of that. I was a little anxious because I love my regular vet but they were wonderful. They are definitely over taxed right now; I think most vets are since so many people adopted this past spring. They were not great with the phones (There were times when no one answered, times I was put on hold for a decent length) but they were really wonderful. The receptionists were all very professional and patient with my questions, even when I knew they had other lines ringing. The vet techs were knowledgeable and helpful. The vet who worked on my dog was very kind and helpful.I would recommend this hospital because your pet will get great care.
Honestly, I was skeptical because the first few times I called when my boxer was sick, I never got a response or anyone answering the phone. But I went to VCA and they gave my girl the wrong medication dosage and that was when I decided to give Old Town another shot since the pet package my boxer came with gets her medical costs covered here. And I have not been disappointed ever since I decided to give it another shot. My dog LOVES the vet and technicians here, she gets so excited to see them and so sad to leave when she is there. They provided me with even better medication than given to my dog at VCA. And yes theres no way to make appointments, it is first come first serve, but if you go early then your pet gets seen quickly and with honestly the best care. Im very happy with the experience my dog is getting with Old Town so far.
You could easily wait for an hour and more until someone comes out to check on you. Or, you called to check in and after waiting for an hour they said you didn’t check in. Came here only because the place I got my dog asked me to come here for physical checkups. Not coming back. Waste of my time.
Used to go there all the time, until they kept trying to get a payment out for the monthly puppy package when my mom couldn’t pay anymore. Never stated on the paper they would report that to credit services. Misleading information. Beware.
The wait time is long - I waited for a few hours for several times but I understand thats the expectation after reading all reviews and their no reservation policy. Whether this no reservation policy is efficient or not is up to debate but they recently adopted the drop-off service which helped a bit. Thats the reason why I gave two stars instead of one (at least they tried). However, the staff working in this vet dont seem to communicate among themselves. They once forgot to tell and give us our puppys prescription and as a result of it, our puppy developed diarrhea and ended up with one more visit (of course, 2+ hours wait) and more medicines later. They didnt self-discover this mistake but instead admitting it after we started to question their test results as all the facts didnt add up in our minds. Ironically, we still ended up paying for the additional visit and all medicines due to their mistake.I took an understanding position after all given the fact they were probably swamped with all patients. What threw me off is that we found out our puppy, with a cone, could still reach and lick his scar two days after his neutering surgery. They gave our puppy the surgery and we purchased this cone at their recommendation. This cone, of course, was 2x expensive than Amazon but we decided to go for it because the vet knows (or supposed to know) how to to get it right. We called and asked for a replacement but the staff refused to give us another one unless they saw our puppy in person knowing that we dont have a car and our puppy had this surgery literally two days ago. The reason, we were told, was that they cant give a right size unless they see our puppy. I mean, they already messed up once. And why a vet cant even give a right sized cone?! This puppy is one who got all vaccines and grooming done at their place - they should know him well enough to make a good judgement call. But I was completely wrong - wasted both our money and time. And the morning call before 7 AM on SATURDAYS just to confirm an appointment (not urgent at all)... I was stunned by their lack of care and sympathy with pets and their parents. So I made a rookie mistake by trusting a vet and signing up their wellness package for one year without testing water. For all new fur parents, please shop around and READ REVIEWS before you make a long term commitment.
Old Town Animal Care is wonderful! The staff is knowledgeable, professional, sweet and sincere. They love animals and my dogs love them! You can always get in same-day for most routine shots and annual check-ups (you may have to wait a little), but it’s totally worth it! I would recommend them to anyone with animals!
I agree with all of the reviews about wait times. Ive been coming here since they opened and loved it at first, but this has gotten out of hand. I totally understand that precautions must be made with COVID, but every single time I take my dogs here the wait is at LEAST two hours and they will only take walk ins. For example, the last time I brought my dog in we waited for 2.5 hours. I used their new texting service to try to gauge when my dog will be taken back, but there was minimal responsiveness. When I called to see again how long the wait would be, they said your dog is back with the vet.... but he was still outside with me!! I think they mixed up which dog was supposed to be taken back. When they finally took my dog back, the vet did a less than 60 second exam for him and called me confused about the history I had given the tech. I repeated the history, and the vet said my dog seemed fine and prescribed him some pain meds for a muscle strain (I believe) that he had.I think itd be helpful if they allowed pet owners to FaceTime with the vet when they are in the exam room seeing your pet at least until COVID is over. This would give more peace of mind to pet owners and would make sure their pet is getting the care that is needed. As for the wait times... I beg you Old Town Animal Care... please take appointments, and please let us know which vet will be seeing our pets for continuity of care!!
So thankful for Old Town Animal Care Center! They did a great job with our new dog when he injured his paw. The staff was very professional even though he was a bit grumpy. We’re glad to have such a wonderful walk-in clinic close by since we haven’t found a local vet yet. The whole process only took about 2 hours which we expected due to the notification on their website. Overall a good experience!
I loved this vet at first but this will be my last time coming here. Be prepared to wait for 3-4 hours. I have wasted so much time here. The solution is simple...start taking appointments. Do you just show up at your doctor’s office without an appointment? It makes absolutely no sense. It is absolutely ridiculous. I would stay far away from this place. Currently going on hour 4 waiting in the car and no one can give me a time estimate on when my dog can be seen. I will be looking for a new vet.
Staff is super friendly but I have waited 2+ hours every time I’ve been here. They need a better system... current method of call when you get there (no appointments) just doesn’t work.
I had to come here after adopting a kitten from FCACC for a final booster and fecal test. I would have taken him elsewhere if I had the option, but this is where I was sent by the shelter. Its really too bad that they wont accept appointments, especially while theyre trying to accommodate for Covid by having clients wait in their cars. I really respect that theyre trying to protect their workers, but this is the most inconvenient system I could possibly imagine. Its especially not cat friendly since we dont have the option of getting out of the car like people can with dogs. In 95 degree heat, we were forced to sit and idle, wasting gas to keep the AC running for our kitten. They were understaffed with only 3 vets. It took about 4 hours to be seen, and once they took him in, they wouldnt even give an estimate for how long hed be in there, but it took an additional hour and a half. Also, once they called to tell me the appointment was finished, it was an additional 30 minutes until they actually brought him out. I see that they think walk-in is the best option for their clients, but I dont really see how it benefits anyone who isnt there for an emergency. Their staff seem exhausted and I feel sorry for them. This is an awful system.
Poor customer service during the previous two visits! Most of the staff and doctors are great, however there are a couple of staff members that the administration should give them customer service training.I know you are getting a lot work during covid, because other clinic are having less capability of taking patients, I hope you realize you are facing this problem too.I believe Administration needs to review again their appointment policy of “no appointment necessary!”, and the new “Covid-19 policy” of calling to check in before coming to the clinic, because is not working. Even if you call in advance as requested by the new policy is a nightmare to check in your pet to be seen by the vet. This because sometimes “phone is not working”, no one answer or if you are lucky your call is answered you are place on hold for long time and your call for some reason gets disconnected. Once you talk to someone the answer you get is: “sorry we are book, try later or tomorrow”. If you try to explain that you were waiting In the phone and calling at the times the policy stabling to check in, the answer you get is“you can go to a clinic that take appointment or go to the Vet ER we will send the records” this answer sound like you are getting rid of your patient.I know that I can do that, but when you guys are treating a patient and symptoms come back, you don’t just get rid of him.
I’ve been told to call, text, etc twice a day for three days in a row, and haven’t been able to get my cat in for an appointment. I’ve texted, left messages, been apologized to, but my cat still has no appointment or date for relief.
They’ll try squeezing out every penny for services your dog doesn’t even need
Thank you Old Town staff for being there for everything during this Pandemic. I understand that you guys are working so hard to care for all the fur babies out there. You guys are doing the best that you can do, since you are only walk in only!! You always take such great care of my Scrappy.
I really enjoyed this vet when it first opened. The staff is friendly, the facility is clean and in general my dogs gets pretty good treatment. However the wait times are RIDICULOUS. I’ve gone a several different time during the week and weekend to try to find the optimal time and the past three time’s I’ve had to wait 2 hours to be seen. It is beyond me why Old Town Animal Care Center refuses to book appointments.
If I could give them negative stars, I would. This place is a disaster. I lived across the street when they opened, and it was great then. Over the last year, even before COVID, the wait time became insane and the staff became disorderly and rude. Even for something minor or just to pick up some meds. They didn’t fulfill my order correctly multiple times, and today was the last straw. I called to bring my dog in for vaccinations at 8:45 AM. They don’t take appointments so they said call back in an hour to see how much longer the wait would be (she has 9 other dogs ahead of her), so I did, they said another half hour, called back, another half hour, finally left to go there, sat in the parking lot for 1.5 hrs. The two times I flagged someone down they said 2 dogs were ahead me, meanwhile I saw them come out and get more than 5 pets in the time I waited. No one even came out to the car when I got there, and no one would answer my call (I firmly believe they were screening me). I left. Forget it, I will find another vet. My advice to them? Take appointments. Respect people’s time, manage the insanity, and maybe it will reduce the high turnover of your staff. Good luck. Also reading through other responses from the Owner, I want to clarify that the option to drop off and come back isn’t particularly helpful when people are coming from far away. Therefore the best thing you can do is the provide an appointment time, or be transparent if you will not be able to guarantee seeing the pet (which you obviously can’t but have led many people including myself to believe you would be able to). Stop lying about your capacity and make actual changes to the way you run your business. Again I lived across the street for several years and have seen many of your front staff come and go, it is obviously not an enjoyable place for anyone.
VERY satisfied with the care and service my dog and myself have experienced here. The staff and doctor have gone above and beyond to help me and my dog. They are so welcoming and kind! I haven’t had any trouble with waiting too long as some of the other reviews have stated. Also the prices are pretty affordable. I tried to go to a vet closer to my house and they were trying to charge me double and the care was not as good. The wellness package is a great option they offer and super helpful. I will gladly make the trip to old town to receive the tremendous care that we’ve received. Thank you so much for everything you have done for me and my dog. So far I’ve had nothing but great visits!
Old Town Animal Care Center squeezed me in when my puppy had a mini emergency, and took care of my puppy with professionalism and the quality care I was hoping for. Highly recommend, great staff.
If I’m writing this is because I’m pretty upset. This is my first time visiting this clinic 3:00pm mind you the clinic closes at 8:30pm...I’m sitting in the front calling so I could get in the list for a progesterone I see the techs in the front in the computer and not once did they stop to pick up the phone. When they finally did I was put on hold so they could grab there food and they left me there until the machine automatically hang up on me. A tech with short hair and light blue scrubs comes out, so i tell her all this so she goes grabs a book ask me for the pets name, I told her it’s my first time, just because of the fact that they have to fill up my information she said they’re back up to come tomorrow or later on ..I live an hour away from the city I can just come later on. Unbelievable !!!just because they had to add my info.. Honestly it’s ridiculous..
Very experienced, but the waiting time is ridiculously long. Our first time we had to wait for 5 hours to finish the whole process. Our second appointment they said it was going to last 20 mins and they were very fast to process the bill but, still had to wait for two hours to finish the process.
I have to say, the system they have set up right now is totally wack! They have people waiting outside for hours and the only thing we can do is call in every 30 minutes? Learn from restaurants please. Wait-List-Me or something! Treating everyone like they are infected and we cant even come in with our pets? $71 for an exam to tell me I need to come back in SEPTEMBER to have a tooth removed! Thanks Bianca. Going to Roscoe where they appreciate their clients.
I agree with the posts about the wait times, so I will not add more details other than to say a 3 hour wait time is not uncommon, even though they now have allowed people to join a queue. However, the problems are much more systemic than poor appointment management. I have experienced their exceptionally poor record keeping, inability to communicate, inflated service prices, inconsistent opinions, and general lack of professionalism. My most recent experience included getting a health cetificate completed so my dog could fly. I waited the unreasonable wait time to be told that they needed rabies info from my other vet out of state (which I was certain my vet had sent that through months before). I was told I could come back by end of day to get the forms. In addition to not getting the forms that day, the appt itself was $182 which is over double what I have paid at other vets.Over the next week of me calling to ask about the status of the forms, I get inconsistent information and no forward communication. I also find out my vet had sent the documentation over months prior (which I only found out by calling the other vet) but the signing of the documentation was withheld because one particular vet did not feel comfortable signing the form because even though my dog was rabies vaccinated in Oregon they go through a different tagging process. It was never once communicated to me that was the hold up until my 5th call and they did have another vet who was willing to sign off. The end result was a week of wasted time, missing the deadline to submit my dogs info to the airline (I am working through if she will be allowed to fly or we have to reschedule), me having to take a day off of work to come back for a second completely redundant appt (even though I called over multiple weekend days to get this sorted), being over charged and forcing them to communicate. Also her first vet said her teeth were great, the second recommended setting up an appt to get a dental procedure within the next few months. Can someone please explain, in a week did her teeth go bad or are there different levels of analysis and/or attempts to get more services happening?!?!Unfortunately, this is not the first occurence of poor service. A few months ago I came here to pick up medication, which was originally filled at another vet. They would not process the refill (even though it was valid and the other vet agreed to take the liability as that seemed to be the concern) and in order to get it I had to get a series of expensive tests done to make sure there were no issues. My other vet had recently done this (at half the cost) and it was completely redundant and the only explanation I have is a scam to get more money. If I could give them a negative review they have earned it on multiple occasions. The only good thing about the wait time is it allowed me to leave this review.
Love this place - I’ve been bringing my dog here since we got her. Have a package that includes so much! $500 for a year and it includes unlimited visits, 2 fecal exams, discounted meds - and her spay and probably more that I’m forgetting. Anywhere else i looked was hundreds just for a round of vaccines. Only down side is that it’s a walk in clinic so sometimes there is a wait but I’ve never waited too long. The staff here is very nice and accommodating. And Santa is here today which was a nice surprise!
I’m not sure where to begin. The one good thing I can say about this place, is that your pet will get seen on the day you bring your pet there. It may take a few hours, which is understandable under the current COVID-19 crisis. So get there early. Now, I hope you have a lot of money because this place is money hungry & will have you coming back for the same symptoms, just to get seen again, & then given the correct stronger medicine. Brought my kittens there that had an upper respiratory infection, & was given antibiotics that treat pets for diseases that are caused by ticks & or other outside pest. I wasted over $250 coming to this place for an exam for my kittens. One kitten never got better. The other started to show signs of getting better, then it got worse too... Ended taking my kittens to another vet & was told one of my kittens are a male, not both female. What kind of exam did old town perform on my kittens??? They get your pet inside & that’s it. I believe nothing is done & they send your pet back out with a weak prescription, that’ll have you coming back foranother expensive exam. The veterinarian seemed very apologetic, but I think it was a show.
Great variety of services offered. We have been taking our two dogs here for two years and have loved all services we’ve used. From daycare to surgery, they have been a professional and reliable option for us.
We were referred to Old Town Animal care for a complimentary wellness check provided by the place we got our dog from. Even though there are plenty of other vets closer to our house, wed never go anywhere else. They have great service, but most importantly you can tell that everyone on the staff genuinely cares about animals and is happy to be there. As a first time pet owner (and an anxious person in general), I call them frequently with questions and they are always understanding, compassionate and have a doctor get back to me in a timely manner if my question cant be answered immediately. Every doctor I have met in person is kind, thorough and really takes their time with my dog. As an added bonus, they have a groomer on site (who is great) - it makes me feel so much better to leave my dog in a familiar place where she could be cared for in the event of an unlikely emergency.
Visiting any clinic can be stressful, but the staff here are welcoming and helpful. The environment is clean and comfortable. Id recommend this place for anybody visiting a clinic for the first time. I came here to get my cat vaccinated.
Always clean in waiting room and exam rooms. I was a little apprehensive about their no-appointment policy, thinking we may have to sit around for a long time, but Ive been over 5 times and were always in and out quickly (although I do avoid rush times like evenings and weekends). Its actually been super convenient for us to just be able to go any time. Techs are really gentle with my dogs, and the doctors seem knowledgeable and experienced. I thought this would be the vet we use in a pinch, but its become our regular vet and I enjoy going there.
My dog has white coat syndrome. He sees a vet and gets very scared and won’t let anyone look at him. But we tried Old Town and they really took he time and made every effort to make him comfortable! They were the first to ever be able to touch a stethoscope to him and I am forever grateful for that first small step!
Super fast service when I needed it most. Doctor was responsive and wait time wasn’t terrible for walk ins. Good place to go in an emergency.
Both of the vets weve seen were good, but the techs are absolutely wonderful! Super helpful and friendly. They make me feel like they really care about my dog! Also reasonable prices. Ive recommended this place to many friends.
We are going regularly with our dogs. The wellness packages are a great deal especially with puppies. Always good service and taken care of. And the best, you don’t need an appointment!
The veterinarians that I have encountered have always been kind, informative and extremely professional. I love that they offer a variety of services in one locations, boarding, emergency care, primary care etc. Its extremely convenient and they have insurance plans for your pets as well. I signed up my dogs for the care plans, because they cover all of the preventive care appointments and majority other health related expenses.Plus the wait is reasonable, even when I was there and there were at least four other people waiting, it was under an hour to see the vet.
I cant emphasize enough how much my cat hates the vet. I dread taking him, but today I bit the bullet. It was our first visit at Old Town Animal Care Center, and he was like a totally different cat. We had a great experience here, and I found the staff to be professional and engaging. Highly recommend!!
Very bad staffDr. Suzanne Wilson saw my cat, he had infection fluid leaking and she said she couldnt see it whe the area was xlearly infected and he left the fluid all over the cage i took him into in, then she gave me an antibiotic prescription that turned out to be nonexistant or discontinued and I went to multiple pharmacies, then I called only to get attitude saying they couldnt help me and some of their clients are able to find it
The worst, you pay each month a arm and leg for nothing. They automatically renew ur membership, which you cant cancel until its over and you have to email them. Then you come to a vet visit and have to wait outside the whole time. 1-2 hrs. Not worth it at all.
I love this animal clinic, Dr Williams and Dr Matos are excellent vets, I follow Dr Williams wherever she goes. I gave this 3 stars because I sent a friend who found an emaciated kitten the other night there and he dealt with Dr Parks. My friend told me he will never go back there again, that are Parks had THE WORST bedside manner, was very cold and unsympathetic towards this kitten. Just stated how much the bill would be, didn’t offer any explanations on why the kitten was so emaciated, only told him to get blood tests done and worse case scenario, put the kitten down. I assured my friend that the vets here are not like this, I don’t know who Dr Parks is, but I will not see him when I go back. They might want to reconsider having him on staff here...UPDATE: Got a call from Alexis and discovered that the Vet I mentioned in my review is not on staff there, he was on loan. She assured me that this type of behavior is not what they want to portray to their public. I don’t think he’ll be back..love that this was handled so quickly. I will continue to recommend Old Town Animal Care Center to people because they really are great!
Wonderful staff, always friendly! However, have started to vastly overcharge. Ask about prescription costs before paying can get medications much cheaper in Chewy! Last time I was in felt the vet I saw was overwhelmed and rushed through the exam. Will begin to reconsider to use them as my vet.
I brought home a new foster pup a few days ago, my always dog, Brando, is on the fence about such a small creature (hes 60 lbs, shes 10). About 24 hours later, I noticed her hacking towards nighttime, it sounded as if she had something lodged in her throat. I contacted the director of the rescue right away and she said it sounded like kennel cough. Of course, I freaked! My dog has been sharing space with the little one and I didnt want him to catch the air born bug. Unfortunately, most vets are closed on Sundays and her cough didnt warrant a trip to the ER. Her primary vet is also in Tinley Park and I never would have made it there in time last night. Thankfully, the rescue works with Old Town Animal Care Center in a pinch. I called and was able to bring her in after work yesterday. They requested I call from the parking lot (huge bonus that they have a parking lot in front of the building) so they could make sure their only ISO room was ready for us. Since this is a walk-in facility, people have to expect to wait a bit and I knew what we possibly had in store as far as waiting was concerned We were in the car for about 15 minutes when one of the front desk girls came out to escort us into the room. Little Bella was a champ, she was seen expeditiously, and the vet listened to all of my concerns, expressed his thoughts, diagnosis, and advise on how to go forward. We were checked out in the ISO room so we would be able to walk out the front door without exposing other pets to the cough, handed meds (already split in half which was a huge surprise and very appreciated) then sent on our way. The techs and support staff were so incredibly sweet towards little Bella, my sweet little foster cant have a proper groom until her itchy skin (bad food allergies) clears up and they loved on her anyway. Thanks to everyone at Old Town Animal Care Center!
The doctors and staff are amazing here. They have helped through so much with my old man (14yr black lab). I highly recommend this place.
0 stars.Worst animal care provider I’ve been to. All they care about is getting money - they do NOT care about you or your pet. The lack of communication is beyond absurd. After getting our dog went here to get her shots, microchipped etc. We never received her tags and for an entire year they never reached out about the situation. I was constantly the one calling and they kept blaming it on the City of Chicago or anyone else. We were told every time that we would receive them by mail in “about a month.” 12 months later and still didn’t hear anything. Don’t ever take your pets here - they are your family and you want someone that treats them as such.
Very friendly staff and knowledgeable vets. Glad we chose this facility for our furbaby
A modernized vet clinic. Wait times are always low and vets are thorough. Their Wellness package is a great value. I would recommend.
Just returned from a 3.5 hour wait and was told it would be another 30 minutes to see the Vet. Had they told us that it would be a multi hour wait, we would have returned another time. I certainly empathize with the challenges of operating a business during Covid but find it extremely disrespectful that they are OK with a 3-4 hour wait.
When my 14-year old cat got sick I had to find a local vet to have him checked out as my previous vet was no longer in the city. A friend recommended Old Town Animal Care and Im so glad he did. The staff was fantastic. I like that they accept only walk-ins so I could go at a time that was convenient, previous vets have set an appointment only to have me wait for long periods in the lobby so this was a much better system.Sadly my cat was too sick and I chose to have him euthanized, a very traumatic event for me. However, the staff continued to be incredibly helpful, sympathetic and accommodating as I went through this extremely emotional experience. They gave me plenty of options, I felt they were honest and up-front and understood the needs of my pet and me as an owner.
Excellent service. From check-in to check-out. Dr was outstanding and very gentle I highly recommend
Loved my experience. No appointment. Arrived at 7:45am, Monday. Taken right away. My little dog Ella had hurt her back left leg three days earlier and was obviously not improving. Dr Williams guessed knee cap might have been misplaced, but manipulation indicated knee cap back in position. She prescribed anti inflammatory/pain pills (1/2 pill every 12 hours for 5 days). But to call back if not improved in day or two, or if concerned. X-rays might be needed. X-rays were not needed. Ella improved immediately. Gave pills for three days only. Ella is back to perfection. The facilities lovely; parking great out front.
Great staff, clean facilities and walk ins accepted. Dr Mattos has been fantastic with our cat and always follows up with post care advice
Brought our dear rescue boy, Max in for his first check-up withOld Town Animal Care Center and was pleased with the attentive care they administered.
Beautiful facility very accessible with dedicated parking. Friendly professionals staff with reasonable prices. My pet loves going to Old Town Animal Center and I do too.
This is my second time waiting to many hours .. I brought my 2 dogs different time and both time they took long too check them .. I spent one day there and I called off to work because of the situation .. I have to Looking different. Pet care center .....
This is the best place to take your pets too. everyone there were so nice and friendly and the place is super clean, i love this place
12/20 Update: This place has gone downhill. If you read through recent reviews almost everyone agrees. From June 2020 to today, 60% of their reviewers gave them one star, and 76% gave them three stars or less. Their average review since June 2020 to today is about 2.2 stars. Before June, 80-90% of reviewers gave them 4 or 5 stars and they averaged 4.5 stars. They claim that this is due to COVID, but I looked at a random sampling of other vets in the area and other vets are still getting favorable reviews. This mirrors my personal experience. Ive had several awful experiences over the past 6 months, from being unable to get on their schedule, to sitting in their parking lot, to calling and have them not answer the phones or hang up on me. Previously I loved this place. Now I wouldnt recommend it to anyone. Again 76% of reviewers in the past 6 months had an unfavorable experience. Is this really something you want to subject yourself too, where recent google reviewers had a average 2.25 star experience? Most other vets over the past six months are still getting at least 70% favorable reviews, and many great vets are getting 80-90% and most are taking new patients contrary old town care centers recent review response. I switched and Im not looking back. Their metrics for the past 6 months make them one of the worst vets in the city except for certain Banfield clinics.
We have been coming here for about 4 to 5 months now, everyone is always very nice. I feel that they care about the animals as if they are thier own.
I paid for my dog to be microchiped here but they didnt actually microchip him despite charging me for it and giving me a number to register online. What if he had gotten lost??? I m lucky I found out that they didnt microchip my dog correctly at another vet office and not because he had gotten lost. This vet is incompetent.Worst part is the customer service. They seemed to be sorry but only offered me my money back (Im getting him microchipped at another vet) and $3 worth of credit. Also all of their vet services are much expensive. As an example the microchip was $75 vs $25 at other vets, and each vaccine is $20-30 more.
Everyone was so friendly and they took great care of fur baby ❤️
Never schedule a surgery procedure on the weekend with them. Its a money trap. I kept in touch with the vet to let them know I was in traffic and my Uber got cancelled because of a car accident. So I had to use public transportation. Which was a waste because they called and said everyone is leaving and that I could not come get my dog, even though I was close by. They make extra money by closing by rush hour but youre not allowed to pick up your pet until that time then then they keep your pet and charge you a boarding fee. Thats where they get you. I cant even pay it so how am I supposed to get my dog. Im so worried and anxious about him and I usually use my dog who is a service dog used for anxiety and depression. Could really use him now. This is very stressful and agonizing. I dont know how Im gonna sleep tonight without him with me. I was in tears when I got off the phone. I really need him. I hope hes ok and safe.
Nice new animal care facility in Old Town, great location made for a quick Lyft ride which is crucial with an unhappy kitty in the carrier. There’s a complimentary parking lot which is also nice for Lyft drop off and pick up. Easy to see from the street. Only challenge here is no separate cat entrance, not a deal breaker will go back but definitely feels like more of a dog friendly facility. $16 for cat nail trim.
I brought a foster dog here through One Tail at a Time, and the vet and staff were kind and caring to the pup. Even though its walk in only, I was in and out in less than an hour. Wonderful place!
Notice how most of the reviews for this place talk about how pretty the new space is. That’s how these “pet care providers” seem to get you. That’s how they got me. While the staff may be friendly, no one has a clue which way is up or what the difference between a cat and dog is. My cat was sick for 3 weeks and I brought him in a total of 4 times. There was no sense of urgency, they took his blood and told us they would have the result the next day but after two days past and we didnt hear back, I called and asked what was going on. My cats blood never made it to the lab because they messed something up when they took it and no one bothered to call me and tell me. All they said was “sorry but your just going to have to bring him back in.” Their solution to the problem was to give him the same medication that was doing nothing for him and the vet always tried to talk me into spending more money than was necessary. We spent more time talking about the cost of each visit than we did about my cats actual health. They care way more about money and their flashy space. One of the times I brought him in I was the only person waiting and I spent a good 30 min in the lobby because everyone was in the back doing some workshop or something. One of the workers flat out said “you have a mean cat” because they didn’t know how to take his blood and tried to get me to spend $100 to put him under. I got mad and said that was ridiculous and you know what happened? They took my cat in the back and had no problem taking his blood. At every stop these people will try and over charge you. If you care about your animal dont bring it here because they unfortunately dont care about anything other than making a few bucks. One time they tried to charge me $50 on top of the $150 for getting my cats blood taken just because we came into the building. The new space gives the illusion that they are legit but this place is a glorified doggy day care.
Took great care of my dog Michael Cera.
Clean, nice and friendly vet. No appointments needed and took care of my 2 year old and 4 month old puppy well. Definitely recommend!
It is understandable that they get super busy in Saturdays but I was very glad my pup was able to be seen and cared for same day. The staff members were kind and accommodating.
The animals are treated with care and great staff as well.
Vet is helping us take great care of our new pup, and the pricing is very reasonable.
Wont let you book an appointment but then takes 2.5 hours to see you when you get there at 8 in the morning. Second time there for just shots, I tried calling from the parking lot for over 10 minutes before anyone would even pick up the phone. Got put on hold and then it hung up after being put on hold for too long. Cannot wait until the day i dont have to come here.
Gave us an estimated wait time of 45 minutes. Took over 2.5 hours to get in. Once they took out pet inside, didn’t here from the vet for over 20 minutes for a basic skin rash.
We love the daycare services they offer, and have never had any issues getting in quickly for vet appointments.
Very nice and clean environment the staff and doctors are great here
Got a puppy several months ago and started using Old Town Animal Care because its very close to us and that is where the rescue already had her registered. I really like the idea of not setting up appointments and just being able to walk in. There have been a few times timing wasnt great and we had to wait 20-40 mins because other people were ahead of us. But there have also been just as many times that we walked in and waited 5 minutes or less. The one thing I wished was they would give us an estimate on certain costs before we committ to things. Not that the prices are unreasonable, but one time we brought her in for a follow up in regards to medicine she was taking for Giardia. We asked if we could see a vet just to discuss some basic things in regards to feeding habits (how much and how often, when we should switch her food, etc) and how to try and prevent her from getting sick again. That short visit tacked on an extra $45 to the bill. We were fine with it because we really wanted to hear some of this stuff directly from the vet, but if we were on a limited budget, knowing that up front might have affected our decision to see the vet for such a simple and brief talk. They did throw in a nail trimming at no extra cost, so that was cool of them. All and all, weve been very happy with the service from Old Town Animal Care and their entire staff has been friendly every time we come in. One of the techs was even nice enough to discuss with me over the phone when I thought our puppy caught Giardia, again. I was fully ready to bring her back in to get tested and they suggested just switching her food for a little while and see if that helped. I took her advice, bought the food she recommended (much cheaper than the exam and medicine would have cost) and it solved the issue!I truly feel like everyone weve dealt with has our dogs best interest at heart and isnt just trying to nickle and dime us. Would definitely recommend! Another extra plus is they have a little parking lot out front. So much better than driving around trying to find street parking and possibly walking a few blocks with a sick dog like some other places.
So great! All the stuffs are very nice and friendly.
Very friendly techs. Good with pets.
