I recently moved to city and decide to try out funk barbershop. Must say the vibe of this place is really cool and hip.Staff is very well trained and provide quality service.I got my haircut from vince, and i personally think he did a wonderful job.Haircut and other services in little on the higher end (expensive) side but i think its worth it plus it is in the heart of the city.Definitely recommend!!Professional and very well taken care of.🎊🌟🎊🌟🎊⭐️⭐️

This was my 3rd time getting my haircut at Funks. I try my best to let my hair to grow just to get it cut when I am in town (from Britain). Great barbershop and the staff are brilliant. Sam has been the barber who has cut my hair on my previous 3 occasions this past year, great guy easy to get along with and knows what is bets for the customer. Really would recommend this as the best barber shop in Chicago.

Ive been getting my hair cut from Funks for 6 years. Vince has been a great barber for many of those visits. Great setting, experience, and haircut, every time. Make sure to book your appointment.

The wait can be long but the haircut is well worth it. During my last visit I spent a total of two hours in the shop but this is an old school barber shop where you can bs and really let your hair down. If you are in a rush go elsewhere but if you have some time for a great haircut and a good conversation it is worth the visit.

Ive been getting my hair cut here for about 3 years, and they have many really great and friendly barbers. For the last 2 years my wife and I have been getting our hair cut by Sam. He is hands down the best barber Ive ever had. He takes his time and Ive consistently gotten the best haircuts of my life from him. If you ask him to, he will make adjustments or give you ideas to suit you and he hasnt steered me wrong yet. Hes also very sweet and friendly. I cant recommend him highly enough.

I was in Wisconsin for business and stressing about finding a barber. Found Funk’s 2 hrs away in Chicago and decided to make the trip. I was not disappointed. The staff was friendly and professional. Sam gave me the best haircut I think I’ve ever had in my life lol. I’m back home now in Florida, and consider making the 14 hr trip for the experience. 10/10 would recommend.

I have to admit that theyre good at what theyre doing. The barbers arent dull, theyre not arrogant, and theyre doing a pretty decent job. The cool aircon at their place and the barbers have excellent musical tastes. They also accept the appointment/schedule basis that is a bonus for me.

Okay so I haven’t gotten a haircut hair but today when my stroller was stuck in a snow bank one of the men working there came out and helped me carry the stroller over the snow bank. So that means they hire good, observant, conscientious people which all seem like good qualities in a barber.

Once thing that stresses me out after moving to a new city is finding a good barber. I saw some of the reviews and went there twice so far. This place looks like a barbershop museum. The staff are very well trained in the art and can tell u what will and will not work for u if ur trying something new. The fades are on point, the instruments are top of the line, and the whole experience is a pleasure. The environment is very friendly and professional. They have fantastic covid precautions and the barbers work around the mask pretty well.

Sam should be fired, how he even has a job here is beyond me. I just paid $100 for the worst haircut and shave I’ve ever had by far. I would post pictures but to be honest it’s very embarrassing. Please go to a different shop if your considering this place, there are many to choose from. Don’t waste your time and ruin your self esteem like I did.

Sam is the only barber that I will see in Chicago. He has been cutting my hair for at least 2 years, and every time, Ive walked away feeling fantastic. He knows exactly what I want and takes the time to do it right.

Best barbershop that I’ve ever been to. It has a very neighborhood feel that makes you feel supremely comfortable, it’s a nice change of pace to the more commercial places that I’ve been. I knew what I wanted in my head but was unsure of how to describe it. I did the best I could with the gentleman who helped me and he did an amazing job and delivered exactly what I wanted. If you want a quality hair cut and a overall great experience go here. I’m definitely coming here for now on.

Found Funks as a rec from a friend of a friend. Found an opening with Aaron one afternoon I could run over from my office. I must say this is my new go-to barber. Aaron was great. Fantastic experience and loved the ability to book online. The shop is charming and historical, and the people are funny. I will absolutely be returning here and recommending my friends to check this place out.

Went here on recommendation by a co-worker. I needed a haircut and was visiting from out of town so a co-worker recommended this place.The booking experience: This was seamless and easy. I called up the shop and they gave me available times. I described what I wanted so they put down an hour block for me. I receive an automated text message with my appointment time and the location of the barber shop.The atmosphere: This is probably the nicest barbershop Ive ever been to. Its quite obvious that they put a lot of thought into making the shop look nice. Additionally all the barbers were dressed very well and seemed extremely professional.The cut: Rico was my barber and he did a great job of making sure that I was cut correctly. He took his time and I was happy with the result.The price: I would say this was my one gripe with the experience. I ended up paying $52 for a cut(42) + face clean up(10).Overall it was a good experience and Id recommend it but its definitely higher priced than I would have liked so be mindful of that.

Very nice place. Had to get an “emergency” haircut, and they are one of the only places open on a Sunday with good reviews. They could have charged more for the haircut and it wouldn’t matter, not sure what people in the reviews are complaining about. $50 for good haircut in Chicago is noting. Went to Vince and he knows what he’s doing. Also the kid at the check in station asked if I wanted a beer or coffee right as I sat down. Classy place. I’ve already recommended them to everyone in my family. Keep up the good job.

Phenomenal. Previously, I’ve had my haircut by two different barbers (Lawrence and Roberto who are both amazing) but because of scheduling I tried someone new. Man, I was NOT disappointed!!!Aaron thank you so much for haircut. It exceeded my expectations because I’m a creature of habit and usually stick with one person and maybe two, but three?!?!!! Great consultation and delivery. The skill set and talent of this establishment is unreal and unmatched. Now I have 3 I know for sure with confidence l would recommend for sure.

Just walking around downtown Chicago and happened by this place. Atmosphere and decor immediately caught my eye. When you think of an ideal mens barbershop this place is what comes to mind. Went in with no appointment and they got me in the seat in 20 minutes. Robert gave me a cut and beard trim. He did an A+ job and is a great guy! Highly recommend this place.

Samuel was polite and took some time cutting, which I appreciated. The end result was overall average, I dont think he was really sure on what to do with the back of my hair and left it as a tuft, hoping the gel would press it down. I think its also worth noting that he is a bit brash with the blade. I got a one-inch superficial but very noticeable gash near my left ear - didnt help that there was no foam used before cutting. Notwithstanding that it didnt even look like he really shaved anything at all (see picture). Overall not the best experience Ive had at Funks.

I called and made an appointment with Lawrence the barber to cut my man bun off and trim my beard after growing it for 25 months. Lawrence is a master barber and gave his recommendation on how to style and trim it and the guy knows what he is doing. He gave me the best hair cut Ive ever had in my life. Funks barbershop is very clean and nice vintage inspired look; they even have a vintage Playboys bathroom. Ive recommended this place to everyone. I would definitely call to make an appointment too. When I got there all the barbers had people in their chairs.

Went to Funks for the first time today, and was greeted kindly by the gentlemen in the store. Rico was cool and was like a magician with the clippers and shears. Seriously. I put my faith in people who cut my hair, and lets just say Im going to become a regular. Just left the chair feeling fresher than a you-know-what!

Gentlemen, I 110% recommend this shop. First time client earlier today and got a fresh cut and shave by Jonathan. I felt comfortable and relaxed as soon as I walked inside. The decor is vintage and on point. Time and effort went into creating this place and its noticeable. Reasonable pricing overall and make sure to check out the bathroom (youll see why)!

An excellent haircut in a fun contemporary environment. Pit bull puppy hanging out in the shop is fun in theory but is not well trained and will bite (playfully but painfully). My barber spent time during my haircut talking to a friend who stopped by the shop, making me feel like an afterthought. A beautiful shop with talented barbers, but this place lacks discipline.

Literally every person in here is a great barber. I’d also recommend letting them get creative with recommendations on your hair style instead of the usual go to every time

Wonderful space for the best men’s cuts in Chicago. I’ve tried several chain barbershops and boutique shops among salons as well, and nothing is as great as this. Robert, the barber I use, is absolutely the best. Out of everyone I’ve ever had cut my hair, he just understands. He simply understands hair! I’ve never let anyone just cut my hair without me guiding them through it, but I let him just cut it and do whatever.

Jonathan is one of the barbers at this place and he does a fantastic job. Im in Chicago for just a couple of weeks and was in desperate need of a line up, beard trim, and a haircut. Nice shop, ok cuts... $60 for a cut and beard trim is more expensive than what I would pay for regular recurring haircuts. So I go here very sparingly. All barbers have conversation between themselves; this place I feel, however, does it more. I guess it’s apart of their effort to create a cool environment. Which they do an ok job. But I just want to come in for a cut. I can get a cut in a back alley, the decor doesn’t much matter. I mostly want to get in and get out without the regret of having overpaid for something as simple as a haircut. It’s not all Funk’s fault, it’s just part of the downtown culture where space is more expensive and merchants must factor in costly decor, extra services in order to create a niche and to standout.

Lawrence is a super genuine guy who knows what hes doing! His attention to detail is amazing pure artistry. Awesome feel in the shop as well. Super welcoming.

Good cuts, but being 20 minutes behind schedule at lunch hour is unacceptable. Waste of a trip.Edit: in response to the manager - I was not told until I requested a refund after waiting 20 minutes that there would be any delay, and only after requesting the refund did they offer to fit me in with another barber. The manager is outright lying here about communicating with me to get me in on time. I would have been happy to take a different barber if it was offered before it was too late for me to get back to work on time. Im reducing my review from 2 stars to 1 for the dishonest representation by the business here.

My boyfriend goes every two weeks to get his fade touched up by Chuy. He absolutely loves how his hair is done. He also enjoys how Chuy knows exactly what hes doing.He was offered a glass of whiskey the minute he walked in. It is pricey but definitely worth the service.Everyone is super friendly. They even allowed our little Frenchie to come inside (he became the star of the show)

I heard about Funks by word of mouth and now I can stop telling my buds. Its an old school shop with new school barbers. They can do hair for any demo as seen by the clientele at any given time.The place is old school cool from the chairs to the kitsch and there is plenty of conversation going down. John (Johnny) is my guy and always takes his time. There is no rush to get anyone done because they want to do it right.Funks keeps getting more popular so I would not recommend walking in. Make a reservation and be prepared to get a modern gentlemens haircut.

Genuinely the best barber shop out there. Every barber is extremely talented and is affordably priced. The shop itself looks like a barber museum with the amount of barber paraphernalia on the walls. I was in a wedding party on October 14, 2017. The 6 of us walked in, without an appointment, wanting a pre-wedding shave. Funk fit us in, in our schedule. While waiting our turns, Funk provided drinks and great conversation. We all had a great shave. This is the place to go in Chicago.

Went here for an emergency cut needed on a Monday for my actor son who had an audition; The cut was fine (slightly above avg.), service and atmosphere were very good - kid- friendly, but $35 for a 10 year-olds haircut!!?? Black barbers in black neighborhoods charge less than half of that. Probably wont be back for that reason.
