I am traveling from Charleston and booked this trim last minute. This was the best barbershop experience I have had. Freddie is new to town and not fully booked yet, but he will be soon. If I lived here this would be my regular spot I will definitely be back on my next trip. Thanks y’all!

Needed a haircut, badly, and scheduled an appointment on a whim - was a little nervous about the price but now I cant wait to come back. Great experience, Steve was awesome and did an excellent job. Place is very nice, and the vibe is very funky and cool.

Quality cuts and beard trims in an alt-trendy space. Beard trims are especially good. Punk, tattooed, waxed mustach vibe.

The barbers are such a seasoned hairstylist who knows what they are doing without hesitation. A true artist and a genuinely wonderful human being. They cut my bosss hair, too, and I swear I can watch him for hours make magic happen. Customer service is top-notch here!

Cool and swanky space. I followed Emma who recently joined this shop and had my first visit last week. Emma is not only one of the most talented barber stylists I’ve been to (and I’m 48 so many years of experience living around the USA) but she is meticulous in her method and is able to create the style that you want. I love that she checks in with you during the process to make sure you’re happy with length and the direction of the cut. 2 enthusiastic thumbs up!

Been wanting to try out this barbershop since it opened. The owner is an amazing barber who used to cut my hair back in the day. So when I learned that my current barber, Emma was joining the shop I was so stoked to finally visit! I got a cut with Emma that - as always - turned out better than I could have possibly envisioned, even with my difficult hair. Her detail is seriously unparalleled. The space has some cool taxidermy and decor and is overall very comfortable chill. With so much character and talent at BRB, I think it’ll be a neighborhood gem for a long long time. So glad they’re around the corner!

After my appointments with Alyssa I have nothing but amazing things to say about her and this shop! She is professional, positive, and makes me feel like I’ve been a customer for years. The shops atmosphere is bold, yet relaxed and beautiful. The open banter between staff and customers truly makes this a fun, almost social experience. I was never someone who is loyal to barbers or stylists, but I cant help but continue to return to see Emma. Shes never rushed, always knows the direction to take, and is all parts talent. After a quick exchange, her guidance makes you realize youre dealing with someone experienced, confident, and who clearly loves her job.

Great location and great haircuts. Easy to book haircuts online, and the shop is a hop and a skip away from the Western blue line stop. I get my hair cut with Nina and she is great! cannot recommend her enough. The atmosphere of the shop is warm and inviting, but also quirky/original at the same time. Prices are fair, and they have great hair products for sale as well. Also side note--great people-watching opportunities and views of people dancing at big city swing across the street if you get your haircut facing the street.

Ive been going to Nick for a handful of years now, and he is truly one of the best. After just the first few months of going to him in the beginning, I kept wondering when he was going to open up his own shop because hes that good! Its great to see he finally did it.He has an attention to detail and skill that few have, and he really takes his time to give you the best haircut. Seriously, Ive never had a barber or stylist spend as much time perfecting my hair as he has.Nick has been working with Nina for a couple years or so, and the cuts she gives her clients are definitely top notch! Obviously, I cant abandon my guy but I would be very happy be one of her clients. They opened Black River recently and recruited a few others who I have no doubt are also super skilled given their high standards.Thank you for moving to a much more convenient location off the Western Blue Line!

Megan is one of the best barbers out there. She is easily the best at cutting my black sons hair, and shes great with mine as well (white dude with curly-ish hair). Shes really exceptional. I highly recommend her, regardless of your texture. Shes also super cool and a great conversationalist. You cant wrong.

I’ve been a client of Nina’s for many years, and I will say she is one of the only people I trust with my hair. From the first time I met Nina many years ago, I was impressed by her attention to detail. She is perhaps the most meticulous, devoted, and passionate barber I’ve ever met in my life. I wasn’t surprised when she got nominated for the One Shot Award (the oscars of hair) for best men’s cut, she truly deserved it. If you can get an appointment with her, consider yourself very lucky. When I moved to the city I lost my barber. I found Nina and will never look back. By far the best fade and cut Ive ever had! Both barbers are amazing. You arent just getting the best fade, but best over all cut!

Do yourself a favor and make an appointment at Black River! I made an appointment with Nina and no barber has been as good as her. I have very difficult hair (thinning, and cowlicks), and Nina really did a great job making sure those issues werent noticeable. She also consulted with me and gave me great information on which products help with my hair; which I am very thankful for and now seeing results. I would like to add that the whole time, Nina was very supportive and really is an easy person to talk to. I completely understand why she would have a nomination for one shot award! Gonna keep booking here for sure.

Nina is a beast! A master with the shears. She uses the best equipment and products that market has to offer from the Dyson blowdryer to the Hattori Hanzo shears all the way to the finishing Arcadian products. I got one of the best haircuts of my life. She added texture to my hair and made it much lighter and easier to work with.
