Somerset is a great place in the Uptown neighborhood. You cant beat the location with being a block from the lake and only a couple blocks from the redline. All of the workers have been tremendously nice. Matt was extremely helpful during the entire process when looking for a place and kept me posted on what on what was available. Jimmy the security guard/door man is SO nice. He always has a smile on his face. He knows everyone and our dog absolutely loves him. The maintenance staff really keeps the place clean. We have only lived here for a couple of weeks now, but havent had a problem yet. Neighbors are respectful, people in the building are nice and friendly. Really feels like a community. Another plus is the building really looks beautiful during the holiday. Would definitely recommend to a friend.
Loved our stay as a family in this place and it made us love Chicago more.
Cant say enough good things about this place. The staff is amazing.... the new building manager Mark; the maintenance guy Brian, and the head housekeeper Anna work so hard and couldnt be more responsive. The building always looks amazing. Pricing is great and the location makes it convenient for everything!
Recently ended my lease here. I have nothing but good things to say about the building, Erin and all the staff. Any issue I had was met with an immediate response and a follow up. The building is kept clean, comfortable and safe. Definitely will miss this place. Thank you Somerset staff :)
Very well run apartment building and a pleasure to call Home! Service is top notch especially the building manager, Erin, who goes above and beyond to make sure the property is clean and safe! GREAT PLACE TO CALL HOME :)
I was referred to somerset place apartments through a relative and I love it!’ The location is awesome!! Two blocks from the red line and two blocks from the lake and it’s wonderful bike and running path... if you’re a runner or cyclist you’re gonna love it too!!! Erin and Matt take very good care in managing the apartments and are quick to resolve, or answer any questions or concerns... The property is extremely clean and well maintained.. o They are always available either in person or by email..I also have a small dog who loves it here as well..I looked at over 50 apartments in the city and this one, by far was the best for the money, location and overall newness of the apartments.. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a place in the city.
I have live here for a year, I love it great place to live....I have live here for a year, I love it great place to live. Staff is helpful and friendly. My neighbors are all nice. The staff keep inside and out all was looking great. There monthly newsletter and party the building host so much fun.
I LOVE my apartment here at Somerset Place. It is unbelievably beautiful and the staff are the most wonderful people! Always helpful and I feel so safe with Jimmy as our doorman, hes the best! I cannot speak highly enough about this apartment complex, its home and it feels that way 100%. Ill be here until I leave Chicago.
Somerset Place has been an affordable and comfortable place to live. The apartments are one of the best deals in the city and the building has been beautifully restored. I love having access to the sky deck and party room as on-site amenities and convenient access to the lake and public transportation. While there are a number of community living rules, they are reasonable and easy to abide by in order to keep the facilities clean and safe. The only reasons I’ve not marked 5/5 is the low number of on-site parking spaces considering the number of units and the cost of electric heating in the winter, which was not estimated well upfront.
Somerset Place has been a wonderful experience for me from day 1. The amazing staff that is always there to assist and the easy to talk to security that make the resident experience that much more comforting. The lobby is kept to superb conditions at all times and the close proximity to transportation and convenience stores is also great!
Ive had an excellent experience at Somerset Place. The location is great — close to the red line, Marianos, and several buses. The shared spaces are beautiful, especially the lobby. And the minor repair issues Ive had have been resolved within a few days, usually 48 hours.
I love calling this place home! Lived here for 2+ years. Leasing office people are great, always available. Good amenities and so close to the lake. I highly recommend it!
Terrible place to live in. I used to live there and the main reason why they have so many great reviews is because they use to hold contest. The contest would be to write a review on google and rate then 5 stars in order to get some kind of gift card. The exact amount escapes me. Nonetheless, they have house centipedes that were a HUGE issue when I moved in. I would wake up and there was one there, then I would go down to the gym and one would be drawing towards me.Erin, the manager, who I reached out to pretty much threw her hands up in the air and said o well. If you throw something away they would charge you $300 bucks, though, when I originally moved it it was $75 and then $150. Residents that ive talked to would say the same thing. Pretty good staff but an absolutely terrible property manger who does not care you at all anytime you went to management they would talk down to you every time you had an issue. Overpriced and overall not worth it.please trust me by saying youre better off working/living with a company that respects its residents. Yes the gym is nice and I personally did love having a doorman and a secure way to get into my place with a key fab, but management truly left a bad taste in my mouth, and honestly, many others that are not on here.
The moment I walked into this building I knew I wanted to call it home, from the hallways that smelled like cookies to the management and doorman with warm friendly smiles, to the impeccable, spacious apartment with big beautiful windows covering its walls and all the amenities one could wish for, this was Home. And with the help of Erin, it has become home. My boyfriend and I couldn’t be happier living here, our only complaint is that it’s so hard for us to get out and leave our beautiful apartment when we’re off work! Erin and Matt in the office are always there for us when we need anything and Jimmy the doorman greets us when we get home with a story and a smile. We’ve never felt so completely secure and comfortable in a place we have rented before, we’ve just finished decorating for our first Christmas at Somerset and we can’t wait to show our place off to our families. If you are thinking of moving come to Asia on Argyle, get yourself a warm delicious bowl of Pho next door and check out this beautiful historic and fully and tastefully remodeled place, you won’t be disappointed, I’ve found a since of home and place at Somerset like I never have at a Chicago apartment before.
Ive been here for a couple years now and it has been a great place. The location is wonderful (near the el, 151, and the lake) and the staff are always on their game. There is limited parking, so it is best for those that do not have a car, but other than that its a really good place to live!
Ive been here for two full years now, and Ive had a good time...Ive been here for two full years now, and Ive had a good time of it. Staff is friendly and reliable, neighborhood is a little rocky due to proximity to the red line, but hey, proximity to the red line is a selling point too. Amenities are amazing, laundry rooms are plentiful, onsite gym, gorgeous lobby with a piano for those inclined. I cant speak for all the different room layouts, but the quality of the fixtures is high. Its not the cheapest youll find in the area, but its a great balance of value to quality. Central heat and air, hardwood floors, Ive had some noise problems with neighbors, but its not been a long-term issue. Overall, would recommend if youre on the market.
Great place to live great value for newly renovated building! All the amenities great gym, doorman, rooftop grill and lounge...not to mention 24 hr video surveillance inside and out for extra feeling of security. Very close to beach, red line, Marianos and 147&151 bus routes. Very professional and friendly management and maintenance staff too! 3 yrs in and reluctant to leave for fear of less value. Great neighbors that you will meet at regular organized parties held in the grand lobby! Wonderful place to spend your days and evenings before and after work😀
When I first moved in to Somerset Place, the building was immaculate. Recently, however, common areas have not been maintained. Building materials inside each apartment are cheap and poorly made. Cabinets, appliances, even the trim are all cheap and extremely easy to damage. The air/heating unit is incredibly inefficient. Expect to pay upwards of $200/mo for electric during the winter months in a two bedroom unit just to keep the unit at 68 degrees. Windows are old and need replaced (they are also a big contributor to that high electric bill). Finally, the building management is atrocious. I have been lied to on numerous occasions, told unfulfilled promises, and ignored. Trying to resolve disputes with the building manager requires you to call their corporate office out of Indianapolis to try to get a hold of a regional manager who is always on vacation.Employee turn over is indicative of the management issue at Somerset. During my tenure as a resident, they have gone through more doormen and leasing agents than I can count on two hands. At one point the building was getting a new weekend doorman every month. The building manager can be extremely passive aggressive and fosters an authoritarian culture within the building. Walking into the building, I always felt like I was about to get in trouble for something. I was always afraid to express concerns out of fear of retaliation.Suggestions to the management company:-Replace the building manager-Take care of your current residents-Hire an extra janitor to help keep common areas clean-Be upfront and honest about windows age, inefficiency
Somerset Place is always welcoming to everyone. I have lived here three years and I love I can call it home. You will love living here!
We made a reservation for the Fourth of July and it was a great choice! Menu didnt have a lot of vegetarian options, but what they did have was absolutely delicious! We had the flatbread and it was kind of salty but really good nonetheless. We had the Ricotta Dumplings and was really fresh and delish. But when we tasted the Tagliatelle.... Mouth unhinged and dropped. It was out of this world, mind exploding delicious! It is definitely one of my favorite dishes so far in the Gold Coast area. We had a couple of cocktails as well. We had chosen the Pineapple and the Cosmopolitan and both were very refreshing. The service was outstanding and everybody we encountered was extremely nice. The environment was dark but I feel that it would look amazing in the daytime. The restaurant was skillfully designed with gold accents mid century furniture. First floor has a subtle distinction with its use of materials and levels, and unfortunately did not get to visit the second floor, But it looked like it had a killer neon sign. Overall, it was a great experience and will be back soon.
Ive been here since October and couldnt be happier. I checked out at least a dozen other places in the area in this price range and every other place had thirty layers of paint and hadnt been updated this century. Its hard to find a nice place that is dog friendly and Somerset had exceeded all of my expectations. The property manager Erin is very professional and clearly cares about how well she does her job. I regularly see staff cleaning common areas and the door staff are always friendly and helpful. This is a great neighborhood with new businesses popping up regularly and I love being able to take my dog to the lakefront or andersonville so easily. I put in a work order for something small and it was fixed the same day. I would definitely recommend taking a look.
Im really happy here. Every one is really friendly and helpful . I just dont like when some neighbors just leave their garbage in the laundry room like they think they have a servant here.
I have renewed my lease with Somerset Place Apartments 3 times so far and I will renew a 4th time next year.Somerset Place is a wonderful place to live at. The management is great, very friendly, always with a smile and a nice greeting and when you need some assistance with anything everyone is very attentive and resolves anything immediately. When you live a busy live like I do anything can be taken care of via email which I appreciate a lot. On that end, when I come home in the evening, there is always the amazing doorman who greets me and wishes me a great day.The atmosphere is great in the lobby where the management holds regularly parties for tenants where I got to meet many of my neighbors and always have a great time, a wonderful party room that you can rent for little money in addition with a state of the art gym and lots of places to hang out when you dont want to stay in your apartment and a TV in the lobby if you want to hang out with others watching a game or just your regular TV shows. While others have said in the past that cost for heat, etc. is higher than in other places my ComEd bill has been on average about $42/month which I would say is very reasonable.I am very happy to have found this place that I can call home and I have no intention of leaving any time soon!
Very cozy place with amazing management and doorman. Entire building is fully remodeled nice and clean
Worst management EVER!!! When you have a place where 7 out of 10 tenants you talk to have no intention of renewing their lease after just one year you need to question that. Unprofessional, incompetent, nonchalant, and irresponsible-asocial-ignoramus. The apartment is sub-par. dont get me wrong, yes inside looks great, but thats about it. Picture a yummy looking-food with no flavor. Not recommended for $1370/month to $1500/month. Not in uptown!theres only one reasonable person over there, very professional Im not going to give her name due to potential legal matter. But shes the first one youre going to talk to anyway most likely.
Have lived here for 2 years and the building is fantastic! The door staff and the office staff are very friendly and helpful with any needs I have.
I have been a resident for a little under 6 months. Choosing an apartment is very hard and you have to weigh whats important to you among so many other factors. Personally, I have really enjoyed my stay at Somerset thus far. The biggest factor in that has been the staff. Both Erin and Matt have done a great job at really making it feel like home. Theyre very personable, prompt, and professional. They know each resident by name and their personalities didnt change after signing the lease. Jimmy and Marcus, the doormen, are also very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. The apartments are spacious, clean, and up to date. Any time Ive had a maintenance request, it was promptly handled the next day. Packages are delivered directly to your doorstep. The apartment gym is very up to date and clean. A nice plus for when you dont want to leave the building in the cold to work out. My only complaint would be parking (although not entirely an issue with the property). Theres a waitlist for the apartments lot and a few garages in the area that have waitlists. Ive spent 40mins looking for parking on many occasions and oftentimes just uber places instead of moving my car. I am a young, female new to Chicago and have felt safe in the neighborhood. As other reviews mention, there are a few rough areas close by (but I attribute that to any major city). Central heat/air was a huge selling point for me. I also have a south facing unit and the view/lighting is great. In terms of price, it is a little on the pricier side for the area, but I think you just have to weigh that along with the pros/cons within what youre looking for as it can be vastly different for everyone. I work in the loop and take an express bus, which is about a 5 min walk from Somerset. The red line is a 5 min walk in the other direction. Marianos is a 10 min walk. Utilities and internet are included, which is nice. The free internet can be slow, but not terrible. Overall, Id definitely recommend Somerset!
