Overall a good place but there have been less bouldering sets and are either too easy or too hard now for an average climber
Lots of boulder problems, routes... There are auto belays for most routes. The routes are short and boulder-y, very creative and a lot of fun!The whole place gives off a very chill and positive vibe.
Awesome area with a lot of bouldering options. Great for most skill sets
Interesting and well set bouldering. Definitly the best spot in the Boston area to climb unroped.
Wow what a great gym & staff. I climbed her back in early March before all of the covid-19 shut downs, but I had such a good time I thought I should still leave a review. Spent about two hours or so working on several boulder problems. I will not that their grading system for the problems are a bit different from then what Im normally used to. I normally work on boulder ranging from V4-V6, but on Rock Spots rating I was climbing V2-V3.
Great Customer Care, Best for experience but staff is quick to step in & help.
Great oritentation to rock climbing and I really enjoyed my experience there. Im looking forward to going there again soon!
Went for the first time at the night owl rate, was very enjoyable.
Great rock climbing place and has the best prices in Boston
Its a nice gym with good climbs and I encourage you to try it but if your super new you will feel bad because you wont be good compared to the others and I dont think its something rock spot can control but I love the place and you should try it at least once
First you go up then you come down. Its great.
It was great! The staff were friendly as well :)
My daughter participated in the outdoor climbing camp this summer. She said it was the her favorite part of the entire summer. Thoughtful, knowledgeable, and fun camp counselors! She had a blast.
Great climbing experience for my daughters 14th birthday party! The staff was awesome, especially Amanda!!
Me and my friends were here this morning and the guy Benjamin clearly did not look like he knew what he was doing... Maybe he was stressed or something but the guy asked me to pay first, I payed while my two friends were next he then dissapears to help this family out with training on belaying which in pretty sure was 20 minutes waiting, even the family behind me started to complain. He shouldve told us to either wait and Ill be with you in a moment. Im assuming he knew how long it would take because he couldnt even look at us, horrible way of handling the situation, we ended up leaving and getting a refund. Another reason is that I payed 20$ he refund ed me 27$ I didnt want to say anything just because either this guy had poor training or did not know what he was doing. Im not trying to slander the Guy but he needs better training. I was here a while ago and the owner was just way more professional so sorry for the long rant, but the only reason is that the service has been better but I guess we got unlucky
Great boulders
Wow, super fun kids birthday here! Really laid back, kids and adults get to try everything. Staff were helpful and approachable and gave the kids space. Everything felt safe. Lots of adults climbing too. I want to go back again with my family!Bonus: we arrived by bike and saw NOWHERE to park outside - but Rock Spot has INDOOR BIKE PARKING!! Totally ruled 👍👍👍
Great place to climb. New routes weekly and decent rates.
Amazing corporate experience for our work team. Loved taking my kid to a party there and loved the experience for our office crew too.Great guidance, fun experience, super kind staff and different level options for every ability level. Thanks guys!
I have a monthly membership and love it. A lot more fun than going to the normal gym. Most days are pretty good, but there can be days where it is pretty crowded. As long as you are polite, everyone is usually able to climb whatever they want without having to wait too long. Resets are on Tuesdays and Wednesday, so it can get a little crowded when they have one portion of the wall roped off for setting.
Feels very safe under COVID, reasonable rules, great staff
Best bouldering in the Boston area. Awesome problems, friendly staff and members. Always love coming here and leaving completely pumped out and tired.
So fun :)
Friendly and laid back atmosphere from staff to climbers. Great variety of sets. The top out and slide down is a fun change of pace.
Took my 7 year old..he had a lot of fun. Me on the other hand I wasnt as brave.
Great bouldering gym with some belay routes, but not many. The variety of the bouldering routes are great, with plenty of overhang and funky routes. Friendly staff, plenty of room to move around.
This is a great rock climbing gym for people just starting out to people whom have rock climbed for years. They also have workout classes that you can take along with your membership. They run monthly deals so I would check those out. The staff is super friendly and helpful! Hidden gem of Boston
This rock spot is amazing! The staff are all friendly and they really take the time to know the members (I usually go on a guest day pass, but have had great conversations with the staff). The rock walls have varying levels of difficulty, from beginner to advanced. They even have free weights, fitness equippment, and an exerciae studio for yoga. Theres street parking and additional parking down the corner from the location. If youre new to climbing or are working on V9s, this rock spot is the spot for you!
Nice place if you like rock climbing. Modern facility great for kids and active adults.
A bouldering-centric gym in Southie that has frequent problem resets and decent facilities. Its not the most stunning gym Ive been to overall, but in terms of the quality/difficulty/creativity of the problems, its the best Ive experienced. The problems here are stiff (about 2-3 grades harder than any of the gyms Ive climbed in places like Colorado), but theyve included a B-grade system for beginners in addition to the standard V-grading system to ease novices into the sport; for example they have grades B1-B5, which are all easier than their V0. Even the V2s in this gym often have tricky and technical starts. There is also a lot of steep and overhang problems that really challenge strength in addition to the already stiff technical difficulty. I think this is overall a plus, but can make progression frustrating for competitive personalities.Membership is relatively affordable (about 75USD/month at the time of this review) and they also host shoe demos every few months with sales promos on all climbing related gear.
Fantastic climbing gym. Has parking which makes it convenient and the bouldering goes from b0 to v10 so its for all levels
Super fun place, cant wait for this pandemic to end so I can head back there! Varying difficulties which makes it so anyone could have a great time and tear this place up.
Kind of off the beaten path but still a great place to climb. The routes are varied and good for both beginners and more experienced climbers and they seem to change them regularly. The staff are always friendly and willing to help. My one (small) complaint is that I feel the rating system ramps up quickly compared to other gyms so you may need to adjust your expectations and drop down a bit.Im still new to climbing and out of all the gyms Ive been I feel the most comfortable climbing here. The layout is great. Many of the beginner bouldering routes are hidden away in a corner so you can climb at your own pace without worrying about embarrassing yourself. I dont know if this is intentional but I always appreciate it.
I’ve been climbing here for over a year, about three times a week and I don’t have a single negative thing to say. The staff and community are incredibly positive and helpful, the boulders are set with intention and creativity, and the membership and classes are affordable. The adult team offered here has been instrumental in my mental and physical health, and has given me a tremendous passion for climbing. Shouts out to Keith Nadeau for constant engagement, enthusiasm and encouragement - the gym is lucky to have him.
Awesome climbing gym especially for bouldering. Routes updated regularly. Good for all levels of climbers even first timers. Also has yoga classes on site. Equipment available to rent of needed. The ropes walls are more limited and not that high.
Grabbed a 3 month membership because I wanted to do something different. I went today and had a great time. From walking in the door to falling (controlled and safely) off the wall was about 5 -10 minutes. Staff was super cool and helpful! The South Boston location seemed to be set up with Beginners and Intermediates in mind but Im no expert on that. There were a few setups that looked very challenging. After an hour or so I drove to the Hyde Park location and there were tons of kids there! But it was great! The staff were very supportive and some of the kids told me which walls were good for new people. I noticed that in HP the walls were a bit more difficult but they had a few less auto belays than Southie. All-in-all Im glad I got a 3 month membership because it was a great stress reliever! They are also open until midnight which is great!
A nice place to practice and learn.. The place is full of nice people. The difficulty of each climb is shown. Sometimes they have nice competitions.
Love this place!Im a beginner at rock climbing and this place just makes it easy for anyone to get into the sport and get a nice workout.Lots for options for bouldering and belay. They have a huge wall with color coded holds and paths labelled by difficulty levels. Im hooked :)
Good place a little bit too much overhang only boulders its nice that they have a gym but the rental shoes kinda suck imo
Staff was friendly and knowledgeable and checked back in with us as we climbed. Though we went at a busy time there was still plenty to do and lots of available walls for climbing. Prices were reasonable and the offered discount nights seemed like a great deal! Clean facility overall with good amenities.
Friendly staff. Fair pricing with good deals available. Plenty of bouldering options for inexperienced folks like me
This Rock Spot location is A+ for bouldering! The top rope routes are more limited, but there is still plenty to do for that as well. All of the staff Ive talked with at Rock Spot have been super nice and helpful. The fact that there is a parking lot just a block away makes getting here even more convenient. I definitely recommend!
Really great sets, great walls, easily the best gym I have been to so far over many years. Good balance of beginner and advanced climbs which is rare
Friendly staff, great boulders set by expert route-setters. Great place to climb whether its your first time or youve been climbing for a while.
Great location for bouldering. They have a huge section of the gym dedicated to it with a lot of problems that are constantly being updated. For people who like to top rope, the walls are a little short and there are less top rope and lead climbs available at this location than bouldering but this gym does offer some fun and interesting climbs despite its lack of height. The staff is friendly and helpful. The gym also offers a retail space where you can get shoes, harnesses, chalk, and other equipment and attire. Rock Spot is great for beginners or more experienced climbers. Youth programs, adult leagues, yoga, and other programs are also available at this gym.
Great rock climbing establishment. There is bouldering, auto-belay, top roping, slack lining, and a couple of treadmills. They are well known for their bouldering problem sets that range from novice to advanced climbers that can help improve any climber dramatically. As far as events they offer yoga, host competitions, and community events. Staff is courteous and always seeking feedback to improve their gym. Although it does not have the space that other rock gyms do around the area they make the best of it. Competitively the prices are the best I have come across for a membership and they always have great deals to welcome any kind of climber.
Poor customer service.
The marketing director is a great guy!
Best rock gym in Boston
Cool spot. Staff is very informative, nice and always available. A lot of different options from individuals belaying, self belaying and bouldering. Very interesting rating scales for different routes up walls. Definately coming back for more!
This is a great rock gym. Very helpful staff.
I just recently started climbing, but here were my impressions from my first visit: small location but plenty of problems for a 3 hour session. The rating scale is definitely deflated but thats not much of an issue. Its not a great gym for top roping just due to space and height of the walls but I would definitely return for the bouldering!
My favorite indoor bouldering location in Boston. Really challenging and fun sets.
Very fun! We were first-timers, the training class was quick and informative. The staff was super friendly. The bouldering walls were challenging. Lots of belaying walls too.
Pretty awesome rock gym. the bouldering problems are set a grade higher than other gyms in the area. the gym is fairly sizable and has great cave and over hang features. also more affordable than other gyms in the area.
Setting is on point. Maybe a little soft. But there is so much room and it never seems packed.
Great spot for kids and adults! So well laid out, and the staff are knowledgeable and considerate of everyones varying athleticism. So nice to have a place in the city that everyone can enjoy.
Popular climbing spot easily accessible from T. Does get crowded on weekend and week nights though so I prefer going when it’s less busy. There’s a good group of regulars here and people are friendly. Problems are challenging, only complaint is RSC tend to have more dyno/big moves than most gyms.
This was my first rock climbing gym experience. There are some beginner routes, but maybe could be more. Ive been a few times and it is either really busy or pretty empty. Most staff members are very kind and helpful.
Great routes, lots of interesting problems. Good for building skills. The auto belayers are excellent for my skill level. About 5.7.
The service is alright. They have some nice boulders. But my home gym is CRG Watertown. So I still like CRG better. The top ropes are auto-belay which kinda sucks, and the walls are pretty short. But since i go to UMB in Dourchester it is a nice easily accessible gym, and the prices are pretty cheap.
Friendly staff with lots of route options, although the number of easier routes (V0s and V1s) varies based on your luck. Facilities are pretty bare bones but this place feels definitely less pretentious than Brooklyn Boulders in Somerville. There is an event space in the back.
Great for bouldering. There are less top-rope/lead climbing routes. But the price is very reasonable. Slightly hard to get to if you arent on the red line. The staff is professional and friendly.
Fantastic bouldering. The top roping leaves a lot to be desired in terms of height, but the top roping is fun, nonetheless. Definitely more of a bouldering place though.
Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Super fin and challenging courses. They went out of their way to help me as a newb. But even the pro customers were friendly. Would definitely cone again.
Kind of small, but staff is friendly and the bouldering is set very well. Unfortunately, not much climbing around V2, V3, and V4, so it makes it a bit hard for me to improve personally. As for the routes that are set, they’re a perfect combination of power and technique, so I appreciate that a lot.
Great spot to spend a rainy afternoon! The space is huge so you never feel rushed even when its crowded and there is free parking. The staff are super nice and quick to help if you have any questions or concerns. They run package deals every once and awhile so check to see if you can get a discount. They have some additional exercise equipment here, so in theory you can use it as a gym replacement. They have lockers and changing rooms as well to store your belongings. The facility is in great shape and kept very clean.
Great family atmosphere! Lots of variety with climbs
Its nice that they have auto-belaying. Great bouldering here! Competitively priced.
A fun gym. Its not huge, but can certainly keep you entertained. As someone who just dabbles in climbing, it had lots of options for me at a reasonable price.
Great place for bouldering. Its got good overhang problems. Reasonable prices.
I started as a total novice and never felt overwhelmed. They have a decent verity and the walls are on a rotation so something is always fresh. The staff is knowledgeable and always happy.
Great place to climb but avoid evening peak hours
Good amount of bouldering with a consistent one week reset schedule
The way this place is run and maintained makes it feel like someones basement gym that youre allowed to use. The apathy on display by the staff quickly leaches into the general vibe of the place. People in general are pretty careless, and the gyms proximity to UMass doesnt help.Everything is generally dirty, and if you go at night youll have to deal with hordes of people and power tools. Theyre really making an effort to keep problems fresh, which is great, but new problems are set at peak hours. I really wonder if its the larger Rock Spot company that slave drives these people until theyre callous husks, or if theres really no oversight, allowing the place to slowly decay into something that only slightly resembles a functioning rock gym.Bouldering, as others have said, is the primary attraction at this location, but the problems are often inconsistently rated and frequently overlap with one another, further adding to the congestion. From what Ive gathered, there are enough VB to V1s to keep the walk-in crowd happy, and spending money, and enough >V6 to keep the place busy, but theres very little in between. All abilities welcome is a great slogan, but far accurate. At the end of the day you probably should only come here if you have a few years under your belt and need a place to boulder, are here for a day pass, or live close by, but otherwise go to one of the other great places in Boston. At a certain point there is no excuse for running anything this poorly, so to management: either let it be a co-op or tighten up!
Based on my visit on 4/9/15:This gym had the WORST service I have every received at a climbing gym, or any recreational facility for that matter. When my partner and I arrived we were informed by an employee that the gym was being reset for a comp, which is fine. However there was no apology for the lack of service and to top it off he snidely told us we should have checked their Facebook page. He then said he would help us after gearing up some other guests; he never came back to speak with us. We stood at the front desk, in plain view, for 15 minutes before realizing the staff had NO intention of serving us.Maybe this gym is a great place to climb, but with worthless, rude employees I will take my business elsewhere in the future, and you should too.
Better prices than most climbing gyms out there. Great gym if youre just looking for bouldering
Best bouldering gym in town, a lot of interesting setting, a nice environment, great people, everything you want from a climbing gym can be found here!!
Lots of bouldering. Good setting of varied routes. Hire shoes arent treat. Would go back
Solid gym, good amount of variety with boldering, autobelaying and ropes for belaying. The indoor bike rack is very appreciated and has free parking offered too. Convenient location. Decent prices.
It was super nice good for kids staff are really nice
Terrible service, after we checked before coming if our 3 year olds can climb and were reassured that they can, they did not climb at all and the people of service couldnt care less, and definitely were not willing to refund us. My husband offered to switch it up so he could climb instead of our three year old, and the person at the desk said they were happy to sell us a new pass. So greedy and rude. Never coming here again!!!
Very good bouldering, a good range from beginner to advanced on a wide variety of types of climbs. Not much top roping, but the bouldering is more than good enough to make up for it.
Great place to go to its a place made for climbers of all levels even non-climbers who are just looking for a new experience highly recommend going here if you want a fun time
Great climbing spot. It’s small compared to BKB, but I like the routes here better than BKB. You can see people come to rock spot are down to earth climber!
Its not too busy, and there is plenty of wall space for climbing as well as various climb difficulties.
Biggest bouldering spot in Boston! Great peot and great atmosphere. Highly recommend
Such a great venue!! Staff were absolutely brilliant!
Wow. this is boulder gym heaven. the space is cavernous and full of incredible problems
Pretty awesome gym and good membership prices. Mainly bouldering though. Not a good place of you want to top rope or lead.
Our primary rock gym for 2 years now. Best bouldering in eastern ma, frequent and consistent wall resets and overall great experience!
One of the cheaper Boston area climbing gyms with outstanding setting.
Good bouldering. Better value than other places
Very professional place to learn and train in everything rock climbing.
