I have been a member of BSC South End since August 2020. I use the pool and especially appreciate that during these very difficult times they have figured out how to be open. I look forward to expanded hours as they move forward.
Very clean, helpful staff. Highly recommend
The best of the best out of all the BCS locations. The staff is great, friendly and they really care about their members. They never hesitate to solve an issue, be there for their clients, as well as the welcome team and everyone else who works there. You wont regret being there
I’ve been a member of this gym off and on for several years. The gym is well laid out, nice equipment, and the staff has been nice to work with. While I don’t go on a regular basis, I’m still greeted by name before I check-in. I would recommend this gym.
I asked to freeze my membership during covid as I was out of town UNTIL I return. I didn’t receive any response when I emailed but saw I wasn’t charged the next month. It would be great if I received some sort of confirmation that my request was completed. Rather I had to check my balance praying that it wasn’t charged. Good thing was it didn’t. Bad thing is it started getting charged the month after although I explicitly said freeze my membership until I return. If that needed further clarification, I should have received some response but zero response. I called the gym at south end after getting charged 3 times where the front desk person simply said the hq handles contact us and they can’t do anything or give the refund. He eventually reluctantly said he will talk to the manager and give me a call back. I didn’t receive any call back. Poor communication between hq and branch and between customer and location representative
Wonderful staff, it’s very clean and the mgmt is outstanding I highly recommend the south end gym.
This gym has been fraudulently charging my cc since May of 2020. Disputing charges still.
When the COVID-19 happened, the gym were closed, and they were supposed to freeze all credit card payments. However, I was charged even though the gym was closed I tried to contact them but no one responded. Therefore I cancelled my credit card. When the gym reopen again they didnt noticed me the gym is open again. They tried to charged my credit card, when it didnt went through I received an email stating that I have a balance that I need to pay. Mind you I didnt know the gym is reopen again, Im 6 months pregnant going to 7 months . I tried to contact the manager of the gym and he stated that I have to pay the balance that I owed before they would cancel my membership. I was doing sessions with a personal trainer that was already paid for, I still have whole month worth of sessions. Sadly I cannot do it because Im pregnant and I cannot do any gym right now. This people refused to cancel my membership and they went a head to charge me for membership when the city of Boston were in quarantine. They are scammers and they bully people if you try to cancel your membership. I will definitely going to contact the state attorney for this matter. It is a difficult time for people and business, but businesses shouldnt cheat customers, they should be more understanding especially around this time. Take your money somewhere, YMCA are more better service than this people.
BSC seems not to be able to get there act together. I was trying to find our why my account wasnt credited for when the club was closed. I left phone calls and once when I was at the gym they took down yet another message. I always told each time that the manager wasnt in. Today when changing my credit card info I finally got to talk to the manger. When I mentioned that I had called she got defensive and said she was there all the time, She definitely lacked customer service skill, but was excellent at deflecting and putting you on the defensive. Some of the other questions I asked:1. When would the hours be expanded now post pandemic.2. Why there was no towel service and when would it be resuming3. When would classes be starting with more available to what they have been offering. She had no Idea and took offense that I suggest they reduce there fees as members are not getting what they paid for. I then asked for the corporate number or regional manager number and was told there none available. Obviously from the reading Ive done on the internet Im not alone in my disappointment.I would suggest that maybe she take a business etiquette course. They are available at Beaumont Academy on line.
What you can expect when going to BSC South End during the pandemic:1) A clean and safe environment to workout - while the club has always been clean, it is somehow even cleaner. This is because staffers and what looks to be a private cleaning company are always doing something! Furthermore, members do a great job a sanitizing their stations before and after workouts. Even though it is annoying to wear a mask during a workout, be prepared to be reminded by a staff member or fellow club member if you are exhibiting poor practices. Everyone wants to keep everyone safe and as a covid sensitive person I can respect this.2) Classes - The main reason Im attending the gym is because classes are back. There is something about the trainers that allows me to have harder and more efficient work outs. Furthermore, the classrooms are only reserved for lesson and person training so they are incredible clean! Classes are limited to 8 people, which means it very safe because of the ratio of max people to sqft is optimal. This also means the instructor is able to help you with form or give extra motivation to get you through the current set. Ive done two classes this week Roberto P. and he made sure I didnt quit, not only is he a great instructor he knows how to give encouragement without being overly aggressive.3) Communication: I understand some people have noted that theyve had an unpleasant experience when working with the staff or even the GM. I can only speak to my experience but since mid-march Ive only had extreme professional experience with BSC South End. GM Jessica - assisted me with freezing my account and explained all of the changes and requirements throughout the course of this pandemic. We have to remember that the whole world was turned upside down so try to be kind and understanding of all business big and small! To sum up everything, if you want a safe place to workout and get your 2021 beach bod BSC South End is the gym for you.
This place is awesome. I was a little skeptical coming back to the gym after quarantine but the staff made me feel safe. While I hate wearing a mask I appreciate them looking out for our well being. I talked to the manager and she really helped me understand some of he policies. Now all I have to do is get the results I was looking for.
My BSC in Medford is permanently closed and this BSC would not let me cross over at the same rate. My old membership came from a special first responder promotion.
This location is terrible, the entire Boston Sports Clubs chain is the worst gym I have ever dealt with. The customer service doesn’t care about you or your fitness goals. The equipment is sub par and nothing special... it’s actually out dated compared to other gyms like LA fitness, 24 Hour Fitness, Anytime Fitness, etc. They will sign you up for a membership then hit you with so many hidden fees it’s just sleezy. The general manager at this specific location should be fired.
What can I say about Boston sports club its clean its organized to staff is extremely knowledgeable the friendly and theyll help you in any way that they can. in this time of covet their machines are extremely safe and sanitary that plenty of wipes and alcohol products around the social distancing is extremely well put together and as I stated that they are clean their knowledgeable and they are extremely friendly they are great value.
DEFINITELY WORST MANAGEMENT EVER !!I had emailed them in March to freeze my membership AND in September they start charging me without my consent. Now I have to file for dispute and get my money back.I have been calling my credit card folks and fighting over this! SO IF YOU ENJOY TALKING TO CUSTOMER CARE FOR HOURS AND FIGHT FOR YOUR OWN MONEY PLEASE JOIN *** BOSTON SPORTS CLUB ***
Transfered from Fenway and I like this one better, possibly one of the nicest and cleanest one Ive visited and also have a pool. Even a small gesture as putting contact info to the machine ensure the maintenance is well kept. the only complain is the layout of the gym is a bit confusing and did not leave enough space for social distancing .
Everyone else is back to normal business gym hours but BSC is using the Governor loopholes to cut cost and stay open at 60% of capacity. 😤😤😤
I have been to every gym in Boston at this point and BSC definitely takes the win! Pool, Price...a lot of regulars. I see the same people everyday and honestly that makes going to the gym a little more rewarding than the revolving door gyms like planet fitness and work out world. SOWA is right next door, dunkins, the T! Im writing this as I work out right now!
Boston Sports Club has treated me very unfairly. I visited the club on July 13, the day they reopened. Staff knew that I was interested only in swimming. They said nothing about the pool remaining closed, but checked me in, which allowed them to charge my account a $47 annual fee. A few days later, I discovered a pool in another gym and asked BSC to cancel my membership. They ignored my first request. They finally agreed to cancel the membership, but flatly refused to refund the $47. Ironically, I had gone out of my way last fall to introduce them to people in the community, inviting their new staff to two community events. I have filed a complaint with the Massachusetts Attorney Generals office. Staff there told me that complaints had piled up against BSC. I also filed a complaint with my credit card company. Im hoping that a professional club, with a professional integrity and customer driven staff eventually take over that space. We deserve better!
Great space! Friendly and attentive service. Recent Renovation to accommodate clients wishes and desires. Admist Covid they as a club have handled issues well. This is not easy for anyone. Staff on hand to assist with concerns or questions daily.
They overcharged during covid lockdown even though they were closed and let go of 90%+ of their employees. All members were charged, but we literally could not work out here nor get a hold of anyone. They also overcharged me when I signed up, claiming they would waive the annual fee and first months membership dues. This place is old and ratty and in a basement. The equipment is rusty and doesnt work properly. Its really not worth $70 a month, but its close to my home. The hours are limited due to covid, and towel service, showers, and the pool are closed.Update: Theyre giving everyone 45 days free without dues, allegedly.
I will FOREVER love Zumba with Kerry! It changed my life! The gym itself is nice and welcoming. Sometimes the fees and charges can be shady . New management has made positive changes.
I wish I can give this company a minus 5 stars (South End Boston). Everything was fine until the time to cancel this membership. They made it so easy to enroll, but a pain to cancel.Piece of advise: Do not trust the front desk people when they say its already mark for cancellation because the manager later on will deny it (we dont have prof theyll say). Get it in written (ask them to print the confirmation) or maybe request to take a picture of their screen.
This gym is amazing! The equipment is great! Very spacious facility. Such a clean gym. The staff there are really good people. Very friendly. Warm greetings every time I walk in and leave; its a great environment ! Want to thank the beautiful manager who helped me with some billing issues. She was so nice to talk to and very helpful with resolving my billing issues, she also set me up with a free personal training session for my troubles. I cant wait for my session next week with Hilary!
Great GYM! Its awesome I truly enjoy MYSELF every time I step foot in this club! Theres a strapping young man who works there and helps with everything, he also set me up with my membership there! I would highly recommend this gym not only for its amenities but also its great training staff. Great showers, pool, and plenty of equipment! Anytime there is an issue there customer service is always helpful.
Great job. A cozy place for locals in south end. You feel like going to your own gym.
Horrible experience during cancellation. I had signed up in December 2019 for gym membership and 8 personal training sessions but had to terminate due to medical issues with my father and myself. I may have attended 4 personal training sessions but had to terminate early and so far it has been a nightmare in terms of monetary issues. I was charged $150 for early termination in addition of $480 that I had already paid for the month of December and then today I find out that I am going to be charged for additional 8 personal training sessions for the next billing month which I cannot go to as I am flying out of country which would amount to an additional charge of $640 to $680, a charge that I was never explained at the time of joining or at the time of cancellation. I also do not have a copy of the contract agreement that I was made to sign on the Ipad. Please be aware of the cancellation charges as it is a MAJOR RIPOFF.
Dumpy with a lot of broken equipment. Staff doesnt seem to care.
The WORST gym on the face of the planet, the gym managers should be ashamed of themselves.
Having a good time
The gym is nice however they stole $70 by charging an annual membership fee during the 45 day cancellation period. Since I was in a cancellation period, it seemed pretty clear I would not be using the gym for an additional year and therefore the annual membership fee was unjustified. Once I brought it to their attention, they said they would refund me but never did and have stopped returning my calls. I wouldnt have expected this kind of shady business from a well-established gym.
Cute spot
They never fix broken machines (1+ year) and they make it impossible to cancel. Wish I never signed up. Also the manager Jessica Baxter is impossible to get ahold of and work with.
Ive had my dues increased twice in the past six months. When I reached out in person about this, two employees stated that a) there’s a new general manager, and b) this shouldn’t happen. They said theyd follow up, and I just received an email response.Dues are set to increase with all memberships to keep with the current retail pricing and mine would not be adjusted. A person I spoke with also said to expect dues to increase about once per year. This is on top of the yearly membership fee.The gym itself is not particularly nice. The only thing it has going for it is a convenient location for anyone who works/loves nearby in the South End.
This sports club is amazing but I am aSwimmer so I did not totally love the pool. It’s a good club in a pinch for swimming but other pools are better...
Best place I know for casual and intense work out sessions 💪
The gym is well maintained and has all the equipment you could want. The trainers are also good. That said, I am continually discouraged by the gym’s ethos: as a woman, it is not easy to get access to the squat rack, lift bars, etc. I visit 2-3 times a week, and nearly each time I am using the gear in the “men’s section” I am asked how much longer I will be there. If there are three people using the rack, the person who is rushed off is the woman. I hope the administration does a little client education in the future, because I’m paying the same as the men. :) Otherwise, this is a great spot.
Decent gym. Not the best bsc Ive been to but you will be able to get a good workout and when youre done you can head to the restaurant right next door to get that post workout protein. Parking may be a little bit of an issue if youre driving, but if you live in walking distance its a nice walk.
Huge, well-equipped, clean and conveniently located. Not my home gym, but checked it out for a change of pace and was pretty impressed.
Its a great gym for the price its not pretentious and it has great equipment.
Used to belong to the original, Mikes Gym., Metropolitan Health Club,..and Revolution Fitness.....have been a member for a while...I go here because its convenient,.but the gym is too small for the amount of equipment in it...and most of it is in need of repair..looks like a bad cheap furniture store..the equipment is mashed together....given what I pay a month, cant this place be made better, and equipment fixed...Planet Fitness is looking good....dont scream, dont wear headphones, and am polite...working out with headphone wearing zombies, though Trendy, is annoying.....they are in another world...do a set, 5 mins.,...10 mins.on phone...really?....and the equipment is broken or needs to be fixed..for all the money the club must be making, convenience is huge, cant you improve..?
When it comes to locker rooms each BSc is different which makes it hard to find but 1St time I went there I enjoyed the atmosphere including outside the place. One of the best BSc Ive been to & bathroom isnt that smelly
Stole over $300 from me by resuming charges on my credit card without my instruction and without notifying me after being a member for over 2 years. I’ve spent over 1 month disputing these charges only to be offered a 50% refund because I “don’t have written proof of NOT wanting to resume charges.” I was even charged for a full month membership amongst this dispute. The gym itself is fine, but they will over charge you, change the fees month to month, and not accept any responsibility for maintaining integrity of your financial information.Update: emailed the address below (per responder’s request) with NO response
Five years ago I was trapped in this scam. Yes, it is not only a gym, but a scam and a nightmare to cancel it. Now, in search for a gym in the South End I check the reviews and looks like BSC maintains its dirty billing practices and traps
This place is consistently evolving and while its obvious steps are made for improvement its hard pressed to compensate for the ware this place gets due to occasional overcrowding. Things often fall into disrepair and the gym frequently gets dirty as a result of how busy this gym is. The staff is super friendly and personal. The cost point for membership is fairly middle of the road in comparison to competition in the more immediate area. Not the best gym in the world by by far not the worst!
New treadmills and stepmills! Thank you! Also staff is helpful gym cleaner than most. Price right where you’d except in South End of Boston.
Great gym ! - Staff is always friendly and helpful and the trainers really know their stuff! Lots of cardio and cool turf area to workout on!
Nice clean club with lots of equipment and classes. Very good stafg
Not a great gym but very expensive. I gave it three stars because it has a pool and a nice location. you can pay 20$ a month and get a better gym elsewhere.
I wanted to like you BSC. You have a pool, are super convenient for me location wise and are cheaper than my current gym.I decided to try it out, hoping that the Passport Membership would work out and I could go to yoga everyday and swim in the pool and hit up the gym all over the city with this location as my main one. However, its just not nice. I felt dirty in their showers, they are super small. Few locations have a steam room which I love. Their pool is just a little too cold for me and their towels are pathetic.I guess you get what you pay for. You need to bring your own lock, which sucks. The gym area smells and doesnt seem very clean. This all combined to me never going to the gym. Even though I was paying for it, I avoided it like the plague. They do offer a good selection of classes for the 9-5er which I liked. I also liked that they are open until 11 on Weekdays but their weekend hours suckIn the end, I will stick to paying an arm and a leg for a gym I actually like going to.
Good gym but I have belonged for 2 years and they are not maintaining equipment or the cleanliness that was standard when I joined. My main issue with this gym is that they refuse to put a fan or dehumidifier in the main cardio area and the air literally feels like you are swimming in people’s sweat.
Its a great gym for the price if only theyd stop going up in their prices.
Beware of this place because their billing is designed to scam you. As a gym this place is OK and the front staff are friendly. But their billing policy is a complete scam. I signed up a few years ago and I was immediately charged the wrong amount. It took 3 weeks of leaving messages for them to correct it. When I moved I suspended my membership but was not told of a $15 monthly fee just to suspend it. Then despite my membership being suspended I was charged an annual fee which is ridiculous considering I hadnt gone in months. When I called to cancel my membership all together because of their billing practices, I was told that there is a 45 day wait period before it goes into affect and I was subsequently charged an entire half a months fee. I have never dealt with a business that operates like this. Stay far far away.
This gym is clean and the staff is great. The pool is the right temperature and even in crowded hours, the rest of the swimmers are mostly considerate lane-sharers. The locker room/showers are keep really clean and orderly by Nora (thank you Nora) and Dhameer is super friendly at the desk, always with a smile and a great greeting. Thanks, BSC.
Amazing, you get more than what you pay for? I personally have a trainer named Chris and he always pushes me unless Ive had a long day or hes worried about my safety,They keep the place clean, any gym u go to will have people who smell... The gym is cleaned/washed everyday by the friendly employees. Im 140 and feel completely comfortable there. The people who are writing bad reviews are prolly pissed because they cant take the heat in the kitchen and are making no gains 😂.The trainers, are willing to help people who are none members and are very nice about it. Theyll teach them proper form and what a specific machine is meant for. This is rare and most trainers are arrogant, here, anyone can feel welcome, I promise, youll enjoy your experience. The gym is crowded for a reason: customer service is efficient and if the mass amount of people who complain about crowding should schedule better. The trainers motivate you by always keeping a sharp and sympathetic tone towards its customers. No one is rude so if youre rude, this is not your gym. If you have any doubts, you never know unless u try, better yet, go to Equinox and blown 3x more cash on the same environment( but this bsc is specifically reputable.
There is something fundamentally wrong with a place that requires you to visit in person to cancel a policy. Ive been going there for 15 years and moved away. But I cant cancel it by a phone call, not online, you have to go to them in person to cancel. That indicates a company that is trying hard to take advantage of their membership. Please beware.
Standard gym. The amenities have declined over the past few years, but in good condition overall.
“We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. Great temple for your Body, mind & soul. Situated in the heart of Bostons south end neighborhood you will train to be a Braveheart here. Friendly staff greeting you in the front, cleaning equipment and recycling your towels, Great personal trainers Jeffery Oruma for Esthetic body building, Douglass Mitchell for a bale based and high intensity workout, Steve & Hillary for Pilates and womans fitness with Members ranging from Meds and Eds from the BMC and surrounding hospitals and schools, definitely a niche for the Gayborhood, with Celebrity Instagram couples, Diversity in action, great place to network and explore your total potential.Hope they get Chandeliers soon, improve their products in the restrooms. They would also benefit from a workout inclusive of swimming activities. Kick boxing. Definitely worth more than what you are paying for. Wish them nothing but my best .A Place for Bosses, Sports and Clubs ! #BeStrong.
This is a pretty good gym. Its expensive but the equipment is well kept and generally there are enough machines available.
This is a basic Boston Sports Club gym. It lacks steamroom or sauna. The weight room is divided in two with a separate cardio room that is nice and bright. The layout is a bit like a maze. There is a nice pool, but it is often closed for repairs and management is bad about communicating when it will be operational.Biggest complaints is parking and the poor communication of the staff. In general the staff is pleasant.
We recently discovered BSC has continued to charge monthly for a gym membership we cancelled over half a decade ago to a card whose expiration date and card number itself has changed over the years but billing continued none the less as well as the club being able to see visits stopped when the account was cancelled after moving out of state. To make up for their mistake the club offered to refund 3 months for not properly cancelling the membership but would not refund the full 60 months because we did not retain the documentation from over half a decade ago. Documentation that was sent presumably to an email address at a company long since employed at and to a mailing address at a home we didnt live at anymore at the time. While hopefully the Attorney General will be able to help resolve the issue for us, more importantly want to warn other current and potential customers to avoid this brand at all cost. Once again, not for their billing mistake but for that lack of resolution. The manager I imagine wanted to resolve the issue but presumably the parent company is unwilling to make their issue right. It seems based on the reviews here, were not the only one who BSC had done these nefarious billing practices with, so hopefully the state can investigate if the clubs management is unwilling to rectify the issues on their own.
Best Gym in Boston! I love all the locations, but the staff in the South End seems to know and care about every member!
Great gym but a bit pricey!
A great place to workoutCardio: Plenty of treadmills, ellipticals, stair steppers, etc. I have never seen anyone ever waiting.Strength: Very good, huge selection, but you can be waiting for some equipment if you come during peak hours. They have 2 squat racks, a smith machine, 3 flat bench press stations, 2 incline bench press station, 1 decline bench press station. Huge sets of free weights with multiple benches. All the other standard resistance equipment is also here.Staff: Probably the best part! They are all super nice and helpful, even if they arent directly training you. Many trainers will just help out with your form or offer other suggestions, just to be nice.Parking: Many other reviews here seem to hate that there is no where to park, but that isnt my experience at all. There is a large parking lot next to the gym. It is a private lot for paying members, but they allow gym members to use it if you show up before ~6:30am, or if you come after 5pm. If it is filled up, or you are coming during the day, they have an overflow lot on Malden St (which is like a 2 min walk) and also plenty of street parking on Malden.
Nice gym. Very clean. Helpful staff
This workout facility has a lot of different machines and excellent employees.
The gym is ok. However, the place is not safe and the staff seems not to care about it. One person broke into my locker, stole my wallet and within 30 minutes was making purchases with my credit and debit cards. This happened extremely fast and very professionally done. When I brought the issue to the staff, they barely seem to care about the incident and the only thing said was, I will bring it up to my manager. I think that safety inside a place should be anyones # 1 concern. It is obvious that there is a thief operating inside the gym and the staff seems not to care about it.
Has everything you need and quiet and very clean
Great location, plenty of equipment and friendly people.
Staff is very kind and helpful. However, they have very poor upkeep and maintenance of their equipment and machines.
Very friendly place, great atmosphere!
An average gym. Not the cleanest but it has all the equipment I need in terms of free weights and machines to get the job done.
They dont look after the equipment as well as they should.
It is ok health club for price.
Good deal
Best gym in town!!
Good spot
Poorly maintained equipment
LEG DAY ALL DAY!!!! HUAAHH!!
