I decided to cut my own naturally curly hair EXTREMELY short and straighten it at home on my own. The shortest Ive ever had it. The cut I gave myself at home was so choppy, I straightened it but my mistakes were much more noticeable. An amazing friend suggested SalonXChange as she had done her relaxer with the owner. I reviewed the salon and made the first appointment available, Shanna was the stylist that was qualified and available. I arrived and had a short wait. Our conversation was pleasant the entire time. Shanna was a great listener, I hate awkward silence and I feel like she caught that and was engaging. She asked me MULTIPLE times if I was ABSOLUTLEY certain I wanted a relaxer on my Virgin hair. She also explained exactly what to expect and we discussed in detail what my expectations were. Shanna did a phenomenal job! My family is shocked at the EXTREME change but I wanted something different and Ive received the best compliments! THANK YOU SHANNA 😊 Im so happy with my new hair cut and style!

I come to this salon for all of my hair care needs. Natural styles, silk presses, eye brow waxing and I even got knotless braids here once. I’ve worked with multiple stylists here in the salon and they never disappoint. Even if you tell them about a problem, they fix it with no issue. This is for sure my go to salon!

It was very dry, damaged, and breaking off. I booked an olaplex and a silk press as well as a haircut and within one treatment my hair already looks and feels so much more alive. Don’t bother going to Shanna cause she more focused on going to Houston .I went in for a short cut and perm, immediately she did not want to be there. She had dreams of Houston. But I went in for a short cut, perm and style. She was ready to leave once I walked in. The salon itself seems nice but don’t go to Shanna if you’d like a good style. She rushed through the whole entire process even though I booked 2 weeks ahead of time and it definitely wasn’t worth the wait. Spend your money elsewhere or with a different stylist. Her attitude is tired, her energy is tired, and you can definitely spend your money elsewhere.

Keisha was wonderful. Firstly beautiful personality. Secondly she can do hair! Im mixed with Mexican and Black and my hair is challenging to say the least plus its super long and heavy. She knew exactly how to handle my hair and was not afraid to style it. Ive had horrible experience with stylist who didnt know what to do with my hair and had me walking out of the salon like a wet mop and crying. But Keisha is a keeper! Keisha is the truth! When I found Salon XChange I had just given birth and had been suffering from post partum shedding. I was terrified and had no clue how to address the issue. In our first appointment, Keisha immediately began asking me questions about my lifestyle, desired outcome for my hair, etc. We decided that wigs would be the best route. She gave me different options for how I could have my wig installed and explained the entire process for each option. She was very specific about the detailed regimen she wanted to implement and how often I needed to come in. Since I first visited, my hair has thrived! I visit her monthly and depending on the feedback I give her about my routine, she customized my appointment. As long as I live here in Austin, I will be going to her. She is literally a miracle worker!!

LOVE my silk press with color when Keisha was done. Great atmosphere and I appreciate that it wasn’t a salon that was crazy busy so you’re sitting there waiting a while to get your hair done. That’s one reason why I didn’t want to go to salons. Also, not everyone knows how to do natural hair and she did an excellent job. I will definitely be going there from now on.

I came into this Salon one week ago for extensions. Prior to the visit I had a consultation. The consultation was neither thorough nor complete.The Stylist did not make any recommendations but simply advised she was able to do what I needed.Today my hairline is exposed. I am unable to manipulate the hair. The cap is exposed throughout my head. My hair has no true style. It simply hangs listless.I am very angry.My stylist was Keisha.

Highly recommend. My daughter wanted a new haircut and ombré purple hair for her birthday and Keisha brought her dream to life. We drove in from Leander specifically to go to Salon X Change after reading all the reviews and so glad we did. Her pixie cut turned out amazing and the color is so fun. I am absolutely obsessed with my hair!I’m new to Austin from Atlanta and my biggest fear was finding a qualified Black hair stylist who could meet my expectations and hair needs. After my first visit to Salon X Change and meeting Natasha (who’s now my personal stylist) was a very pleasant visit. I most DEFINITELY have found the right place. Natasha hooked my hair up!!! My hair has NEVER felt this silky and manageable EVER! I couldn’t keep my fingers out of my hair for the rest of the day. So I called and asked for a woman by the name of Nell and I was scheduled with a woman name Shawna or Shana. I was early to my appointment and the hair dresser had an attitude. But I still remained open and kind. The finished look was beautiful however in the middle of my hair getting done she had to take it down, due to the braid being too tight on my scalp. Which you could visibly see my hair bulbs about to snap from pulling.As a result, she was rushing because she had a another appointment at 11:30 a.m. (we started at 7:00 a.m.) towards the end of my appointment she was pretty rude. She expressed that she hated being late for appointments. It seemed like she was taking her anger/frustration out on me inadvertently, even from the start of the appointment. Which I tried to brush off. However if she had did it right the 1st time,( and wasnt glancing at the time and trying to cut corners) As she was doing my hair we wouldve been on time. I even tipped her, despite her less than nice vibes.Fast forward a couple of days later, I experience some tension at certain parts of the sew in. I kept feeling extreme pulling on my scalp, no matter how much oil/water/moisturizer i put on and I felt some breakage. So I visit the Salon around 11:15 a.m. 07/20/2021 and I was greeted by a stylist, who directed Shawna or Shana to me, she was in the middle of styling a client and expressed that she had another one after, so she told me to come back at 4:30 p.m. Understandably so, I obliged. I Came back and she wasnt there. Long story short, the owner had someone accommodate me. Who seemed like she didnt want to be there, but she took some of my extensions down and fixed it. Which came out 1000 times better.As she took my hair down, she confirmed that there was indeed breakage from the tension/pulling. She was considerate enough to massage certain parts of my hair with tension relief oil. My style did include leave out and she expressed that there would be a fee to press the leave out on behalf of the salon. (In my mind Im thinking, Ive had to come BACK to the salon multiple times in a day, and I have breakage, and Im going to be charged for a press?) Nevermind the fact that Ive bought styling irons, Paul Mitchell hair products and more, as directed. oh and did I mention I HAVE BREAKAGE from the tension/pulling?? Talk about an inconvenience!Its the lack of customer service for me🥴. This wasnt made to bash anyone, just providing insight for my experience at Salon Xchange. I was really hoping it would be pleasant, because Austin doesnt have that many black LISCENSED hair stylists and if so, the attitude, customer service and professionalism is damn near in hell. Id go so far as to travel to Houston, TX for a nice hair style. I figured they dont just slap your weave on, but they actually take their time and care for the hair that grows from YOUR SCALP. Also being that alot of Houston Stylist have and possess versatility. Never CUT CORNERS when it comes to your hair!! Even if you have to travel 50+ miles!!! Your hair is your CROWN!I had a iffy feeling about coming here in the first place because Ive called and even had calls dropped a couple of times and some of the stylists just seem as if theyd rather be somewhere else. It could just be, timing or fate, but now I know better. ALWAYS GO WITH YOUR FIRST MIND! Intuition over everything.I hope this helps someone thinking about visiting. Who knows you might have a completely different experience. Good luck!

Natasha has done an amazing silk press on my natural hair! I couldn’t believe the results. Since relocating from Chicago to Austin in 2008 and going on the natural hair journey in 2018, I finally trusted someone to do a silk press after some disappointments. Let me also mention the blonde balayage coloring done by Maricela. Amazing!!! I am beyond pleased with my entire experience. It’s the best black salon atmosphere I’ve been in for quite sometime. I’ve been knowing Natasha for at least ten years now and I’m so happy to have her as my new hair stylist!!!

Ive never had color in my hair and wasnt sure about it but wanted to try something new. They were really patient and wanted to make sure I got everything I wanted. Not going to lie I had to keep the bigger picture in mind during the process but in the end, it was worth it! They were really good about reassuring me, and then came the cut... It was scary because other hairstylist kept telling me no and what they could do instead. Here they listened to me and actually cut my hair so it could grow back healthy. I didnt go as short as I wanted this time but Im SO happy with the results. Definitely going back 😍👍🏾!

I moved to Austin not too long ago and I have always waited until I went back home to get my hair trimmed, but I have not been able to due to travel restrictions. I was so anxious about having a new stylist service my hair but Chiara was amazing! She took the time to consult with me about how much needed to be trimmed before she started cutting away like most stylists do and she even faced me towards the mirror while she was trimming my ends which made me so much more comfortable. She was very professional and on time (even though there were lots of people in the Salon). Thanks so much for the amazing service and for your professionalism! I never post reviews, but I felt compelled to leave this place a review after the services I received. I got my sew-in taken down, hair washed, steam hydration, a silk press and a cut at a pretty reasonable price. When I first walked in I was greeted and I sat down for all of 5 minutes and it was my turn. At that point, I just knew I was in good hands yall are professional and youre on time 😁. First she took my sew-in down and then she washed my hair. OMG THAT HAIR WASH! She asked me a few times was I okay. Yeah girl, I was great. You were just putting me to sleep 🤣🤣. I love getting my hair washed. Then another lady (the owner) did everything else. She was phenomenal. I dont trust people with my natural hair, and the Lord knows how I feel. However, he led me over to this salon and I will definitely be returning.

Natasha who is the owner made me feel extremely comfortable to bring my teen to her salon. First time visitors to Salon X Change. My experience as well as my daughters was over the top. The Professionals at Salon X Change took the time to educate us on the different hairstyles, hair types and hair quality. We were welcomed and made to feel right at home. I went to Natasha during my visit. I am a mother of 4 and my youngest is 6 months. During my pregnancy my hair became out of control. It had been 9 months since my last relaxer and pregnancy gave my an abundance of density so my hair was crazy thick! I went in just wanting to be able to control it so I thought I had to get a relaxer, I dont like relaxers but I needed help! I picked this facility because they had a bunch of pictures which shows me they are confident about their work and I was liking what I was seeing. I had an actual professional consultation and she was giving great advise and was willing to do whatever I wanted done but after the education we were on the same page, no relaxer and a silk wrap with a trim (yes they actually trimmed and not cut too much, plus she showed me the length prior to cutting) and it was a great experience! She slayed my hair and I cant stop putting my hands in it, I love it! THANK YOU NATASHA!

I just found my new salon! I am mixed with really curly hair. Its not easy to find a salon that knows how to deal with it the way I like. I got a relaxer, dye, and a cut. I had booked an online appointment with a certain person but when I went in there, someone else cut my hair . They just assumed I would want a certain type of haircut when I walked in . I felt uncomfortable the entire time . I went in there reading all the good reviews but I won’t be returning.

She personally came into the salon mere hours after the incident occurred — on her off day, no less — and did my hair! I received a silk press, cut, and deep conditioning treatment all free of charge! The services, as well as customer service by Natasha, were absolutely wonderful. I would recommend her to everyone. It’s not every day that an owner is caring enough to go above and beyond to make sure every client is happy. That should never go unnoticed. I have had a unit cut by Keisha and had a wonderful experience!However, I can’t say the same about my second experience. On or around January 15th, I booked an appointment online for the January 19th to have individual crochet passion twists installed by Jasmin. In the appointment note, I stated that they were individual passion twists that I bought on Amazon and please let me know if I chose the wrong service and/or it can’t be installed as individual crochets. (I’ve never gotten this style before. Turns out another type of hair worked better for what I wanted and I purchased that instead.) The day before my appointment, I was called and texted by Jasmin saying that she was unable to do that style and to give them a call back. I returned the call and the lady I spoke asked me to send a picture of what I was wanting; I did. She then told me that Chiara can do the style.I was then told that she would confirm with Chiara that she can do the style and give me a call back. Two hours passed and I decided to give them another call. (My hair’s a mess y’all and I was super eager to get it done for the first time since the pandemic began.) The same lady answered again, told me that Chiara had just walked back in and would return my call. Chiara called back shortly after and began to try to find me a spot in her books. She then mentioned that she could do my hair on Sunday (today) the 24th at 9 a.m., although they don’t usually work on Sunday’s. Once again, this conversation took place on the 19th.I called to confirm my appointment, yesterday — the 23rd at around 2 pm. Chiara didn’t sound too happy about it, but acknowledged my appointment was today. She didn’t really say bye or anything, and honestly, I got bad vibes from the whole interaction.Fast forward to today at 8:10 am, I was given a call by her. She told me she wasn’t ‘feeling well and has more time to do my hair on Wednesday or Thursday.’ (Additionally, during our first conversation, she mentioned that her first true open spot — without working when they’re typically closed — was Feb 6th. This was AFTER she mentioned Sunday as an option. I stated that I really didn’t want to wait that long, but if she was upfront about when she was actually willing to do my hair, I wouldn’t have made a stir about it.) I voiced my displeasure with the whole situation, declined the offer to reschedule, and I will instead look for another stylist.Long story short, if you value honesty and reliability, I would not suggest booking an appointment with Chiara. I got the impression the entire time that she didn’t want to do my hair today. However, she was not upfront about that, so I just ignored my gut feelings and hoped for the best.

Definitely recommend! Devoted stylist here! I was beyond impressed with Jasmines work after she did my box braids. AMAZING BRAIDER. She took her time and made sure she was giving me the look I was going for. I just wish she wouldve clipped the ends of the braids for an even cleaner look.Another stylist, Natasha, set me up for this style a couple weeks before by giving me a nice silk press bob on my natural hair and trimmed my ends leaving my hair nice and healthy.

I absolutely love my recently despised shoulder length bi racial hair. Before discovering the healing hands of Tasha a genuinely caring woman at Salon Exchange, my hair was severely damaged from years of trying to manage it myself and the birth of my 7 month old daughter. Within two months and only two visits my hair has become soft, manageable, filled in a bit where it was thinning and has even grown an inch. From my very first visit Tasha created a custom hair care plan for me, and truly cares about my particular hair care needs, without trying to convince me to try unnecessary costly treatments. My improved hair texture and added length are proof enough for me to continue to drive almost three hours to see her monthly. I wish I had before and after photos, but honestly I wasnt expecting much this soon given what a mess I had given her to work with. I am looking forward to my appointment next week and lets face it many years to come with my new stylist.

Its been 1 year since going to this salon and with Keisha, one of the stylist there. In that time my hair has gotten healthy and has grown so much.The salon has gotten bigger and is beautiful. The ladies are always friendly and very knowledgeable.Keisha is wonderful. She always value the request of the clients and that is rare in a hairdresser. The reason my hair has grown so much is because she doesnt CUT OFF MY PROGRESS!!! She only trim my ends to make my hair look neat and not give a big chop. Great service. Great atmosphere. A place that promotes healthy hair not just nice hairstyles. This was my first time styling my natural hair which is mostly natural with some relaxer in literally years, and it came out great. I also have a scalp condition. The shampooist recognized that and after shampooing my hair multiple times allowed the shampoo to sit to treat my scalp. The stylist then cleansed my scalp through brushing and another wash. None of this was at an extra cost when nowadays if your hair isnt clean after a 30 second scrub others places will ask for an additional amount. Not only was my hair super cute but truly clean after this service. Ill be back next week!

We absolutely love this salon. Everyone is friendly and professional. My girls and myself all have natural hair from 4b to 4c and lots of it! My got to is balayage and silk press. My daughters love the twists and braids. We drove an hour to get here but I dont mind it due to the customer service we receivre. Hands down we found the best black haircut salon. Best hair Salon since I moved to Austin from St. Croix. We love our natural hair. I found a salon that embraces silk press, locs, twist outs and braids. My daughter has a relaxer which is very healthy. The customer service is excellent and it’s always tidy. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. ❤️

While getting my pedicure I close my eyes, listen to the great music, enjoy the message chair, then wait for the magic my Technician does on my feet (also awesome designs). Absolutely, no one can out do my Nail Technician especially with her nail specialty design work. My Beautician never lets me leave out the same way as before, each time she raises the bar with different hair styles. The wonderful services given by the Beauticians, Barbers & Nail Technicians always make me feel rejuvenated when I leave. Always love coming here, these are talented, friendly ladies that do their best to get you in and out. Rarely am I here for longer than 90 minutes-2 hours. They STAY booked, folks, so get in when you can and communicate if youre gonna miss. Trust me theres always someone who will take that appointment! My stylist is Keisha and she keeps my hair healthy and beautiful, shes super sweet and communicates well with her clients. Honestly, Ill go wherever shes doing hair but Im glad shes at Salon Xchange. Theyve got good energy in there and youll feel right at home.

I am very great full for their help. They worked with the other partys terrible insurance. The insurance gave me a very hard time but Romeo talked to them. Not just Romeo but Will both are great and very nice, helpful... Etc. I would gladly take my car to their shop again.I am so glad I found them on yelp. And the car looks good too.

If I could only use one word to describe this salon and the goddesses that make the magic happen, it would be GORGEOUS! Warm, incredibly friendly/funny/beautiful ladies- atmosphere is inviting, and I have never seen hands that could braid so fast with such precision. I had the honor of having my hair sectioned off for dreadlocks by Bird- fast, painless and every right rubber band felt like a hug...a very firm hug. It is obvious that every one of these beautiful technicians/artists sincerely enjoy what they do. During my visit, which was 2 hours from time of arrival, several children were there, and the salon staff were patient, engaging, and went out of their way to make the children feel comfortable. Prices are very, very reasonable and the service was impeccable. Everyone receive assistance with taking a gorgeous selfies before leaving the salon...except me, I still look like a sprinkler. I was referred by my cousin to come here. So happy I was!! I called and got an appointment the same day with Latrina. I got my hair washed, a deep condition, trimmed and styled. She did an amazing job! I will return.

Great experience at this salon, the stylist had me in and out and looking good in under two hours. It was my first time there for a relaxer and LaTrina did a wonderful job. Will definitely recommend to others, the salon looks great and is well located too.

This was my first time at the salon and it was great! LaTrina Patton asked me about my hair and what I wanted and made me feel very comfortable. I have never had a pixie cut before and I was nervous, but I did not need to be. I love my hair and the cut looks amazing.

I’m natural and went in for a wash n style and trim w a silk press my stylist did a bomb job on that, than a week later me and my sister went in for sew ins mind you it was completely last minute they squeezed us both in washed us up and gave us deep conditioning treatments under the dryer so that our natural leave out would be protected Keisha did my sew in and Nancy did my sisters they both did a bomb a$$ job I loved my stylist and loved the owner I’m definitely coming back this was the best experience I had at a salon in a long time!

So I havent had my hair braided in a good while by somebody whos that professional dont get me wrong I like the people who have braids in my hair but going to the salon and getting the full treatment made me feel like I was back in my 20s I think Im so much the girl was very nice the atmosphere was wonderful I recommend it everybody go and check it out whether you want a perm oppress some braids manicure pedicure Etc and if Austin is not anywhere close to you to take the trip anyway just for this Salon its worth it

Song is INCREDIBLE. She sat me down for 15 minutes to ask me exactly what I wanted with my hair, before she even took out the scissors. She did exactly what I asked for and left me with a gorgeous hair cut.

After moving to Austin in 2015, I had a hard time finding someone who I liked and felt comfortable with doing my hair. I came to salon x change and the rest is history. They are all super friendly and the place is wonderful.

First, let me say that I am new to the Austin area and was in need of finding a salon that knows how to style natural hair. Because I have had some bad experiences with hair salons I was very nervous about trying someone new so, I came across this establishment and I said that I would give them a try. when I arrived I was greeted by one of the other stylist and I told her that I had an appointment with Cassandra, moments later Cassandra greeted me and took me to her station. She took the time to ask me questions about my hair and asked me what styles and cuts I would be comfortable with. she noticed that I was nervous about the process and she explained EVERY step she was doing (which made me very comfortable). The environment in the salon was one that very professional there was no yelling, people hanging outside, it seemed like all the stylist got along, it was clean, and they made sure that ALL their clients were treated with respect and they valued their clients time and that is very important for me because I work at night, so my appointment was a 11:30 and I was walking out the door before 1:30. I cant wait until my next appointment!! Thank you again Cassandra!
