Amazing experience. Im so excited for my son to be a part of this family. He always feels welcome and happy to be here. The instructors and the receptionist Deena are great! I definitely recommend 1 Up Martial Arts!

My family attended this karate school for many years. The quality of the lessons is questionable if your looking for real progression and martial arts this is NOT the school for you .It’s more of a pay for belt / promotion dojo .More importantly the billing of this school is very unprofessional. They have high rates ( I was paying nearly $300 per month ) NOT INCLUDING graduation, mentoring and all the other upcharges they implement.Finally, we asked to be removed off autobill were told by Dena “no problem .. we have to keep card as backup but you can pay weekly”Well guess what they auto billed my card for almost $400 and the worst part is when we texted and called they didn’t get back to us for nearly three weeks .Dena stated “she was on vacation”Wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemyWell maybe I’f I wanted them to go broke and not learn a lick of karate .

I absolutely love this place. They are wonderful with the kids. Ms. Deena who operates the front desk is super nice! All of the intructors are wonderful. They really focus on making sure the kids are enjoying their experience. I really love that they try to instill lessons such as responsibility and accountability. I am so glad we chose this place.. my daughter really enjoys it, she has been developing her skills in karate and discipline. I would absolutely recommend this place!

We love 1 up martial arts so much that our whole family takes classes! Our son is in the elite class, and my husband and I are in the adult class!The whole team from the owner, Luke, The executive assistant, Deena, to the instructors, Carlos, Zack,Vincent,Henry and Felix are so invested in the students, and very knowledgeable ! Every class is high energy and fun! I love our karate family!

This is an unfortunate situation to be in with this business but I feel it necessary to share the sheer fraud and theft by this company. We came in shortly before Christmas to see about signing our son up for classes. They did an excellent job misleading us and kiss up by setting up a cute tray for our son with some goodies on it. As he attends the first class that night we are pushed between one woman and im guessing the manager. They told us about their purpose and the packages they had. We made sure to tell them about our unique situation as we have a child with special needs so there would be days we couldnt bring him in. They assured us that it was ok and that any classes missed, could be made up for in another class. They said we wouldnt be charged for classes he didnt attend and since it was days before Christmas and they wouldnt have steady classes until after the new year, his classes wouldnt technically start until then and payment wouldnt start until after the new year either. They talked us into a package that gave us 6 weeks to cancel and we thought we found a good place with kind people. Boy were we wrong. He attended a couple classes all together but it was nearly every day they were attempting to charge our card for one reason or another which meant there were weeks we were charged, even though he didnt attend class. That started worrying us but it all proved to be a sham when just a couple classes in, they tell us our son will be graduating to another class and we needed to pay for graduation. What reputable karate club would graduate a child who has only attended a few classes. They hadnt even taught him the handshake at that point and never did. When we tried to reschedule a missed class, they changed things up and told us they only offer zoom classes for make ups. I could pull up karate youtube videos for free with the same outcome. We have spent days now being given the run around. They initially told us if we cancel, we would be refunded but after canceling days ago, they are still trying to charge our card, including just today. So now, my husband is at the location waiting on an officer to come out so we can file a police report against them. They are misleading people and over charging them and dont seem to care. That is theft by deception and false advertisement at the very least. I will try to update this review when everything is done. Its not even about the money, its principal and I wont stand for lying people. Wouldnt recommend this place to even my worst enemy.

I cant recommend this dojo enough! We began about a month before the big shutdown, and the staff was immediately making opportunities for the kids to continue online. Their ability to offer continuity, caring, and quality instruction meeting children where they are at and bringing them closer to their best selves is wonderful! As a teacher for over 20 years, I have seen many transformative moments where the shy student led a demonstration, the overly active student was calm and focused, the sore loser enjoyed playing a game they didnt win, the weaker student did 10 consecutive push ups....the list goes on! If you are looking for a place where your child will be surrounded by people who effectively train your child in Karate but also encourage them to seek their best selves...look no further and schedule a trial lesson. The studio itself isnt fancy, but its just right for the amazing product within.

I have never left a review for any business before this. However, I truly feel justified in writing this one.I don’t know much about karate or its instruction, so this review will not be about those things. What has impressed me Is the attention paid to getting to know each of the children.Most schools like this are just churning kids through to make a dollar while paying little or no attention to there development. That is not the case here. The instructors know all the kids by name. They pull kids aside to give them inspirational coaching. They focus on teaching life lessons and skills such as focus, discipline, respect, etc. This is a kids class, so the instruction is by necessity rudimentary. The kids play games together, burn energy, and have a good time while also learning to take instruction.They have a student of the day system to reward kids for effort and focus. It’s fun to watch the kids try for the student of the day honors. I’m pretty sure they spread the “love” around fairly equally. It seems most kids have roughly the same number of awards. Either way, it works. The kids are so proud.On multiple occasions the instructors have sent congratulatory or inspirational videos to us for our son. He watches them over and over. It makes his week.In short, my son loves it. I love what they are teaching him. I love how they go the extra mile to impact him.Thanks, guys. You are doing a wonderful job.

My daughter has been going to Champion Karate for a month now and we already see huge changes in her typically shy personality. Not only is she more focused, she is also so much more confident and excited to learn new skills. The instructors are amazing! Mr. Vincent, Mr. Carlos and Mr. Max are all so patient, caring and encouraging. Nikki made us feel right at home from the very first phone call. They treat everyone like family and create an awesome community vibe with all of the activities they offer. We are so grateful to be a part of the Champion Karate family!

This place is fantastic! The teachers, Mr. Carlos, Mr. Zach and Mr. Elliot (and formerly Mr. Max) are enthusiastic, engaging and patient. They are effective at conveying the important values that are critical for healthy development, even to 3 and 4 year old kids, while still making things fun. My son really enjoys his classes, and has shown great growth as a result. I also truly believe that he does better in VPK as a result of his time here, so its a win-win. The teachers do a great job of making personal connections with students and parents alike, and its obvious that they care. I drive past 3 other karate schools twice a week to come here, and cant say enough great things.

My child started training with Mr. Luke 4 1/2 years ago. I cant say enough great things about him and his studio. He truly cares about children and teaching. He inspires, encourages, and challenges each child, bringing out each ones best. He incorporates life skills and leadership lessons into the classes. In addition all of his instructors, Mr. Scott, Mr. Carlos, and Mr. Jamey are just as amazing and fantastic! We LOVE Champion Karate of Winter Park!

We absolutely love being a part of this community. All the instructors here are fantastic. Carlos started teaching our son at age 3 and he is so patient with him. All the instructors really make your child feel special but at the same time teaching them about respect, focus, coordination, and to never give up! We highly recommend!!!

My son and I have been going to Champion Karate of Winter Park for a very long time. We love the focus and attention to detail in all of the instructors and staff. I originally wanted to let my son try it out because of the therapy he needs to help with his autism. Being here has given him a sense of belonging and confidence. This is a very caring and fun environment with focus on developing each person to become the Best that they can be.

I have been attending the kickboxing classes at champion for about a month now and I LOVE it. The classes are small so you always have someone to check your form and progress. Plus the staff are all amazing! The environment is welcoming and they make being active fun, which is very important to me because Im not the best with cardio. All in all you should definitely stop by to check it out, you wont regret it!

Mr. Luke is an amazing instructor, especially with children. He makes learning fun and still manages to keep your childs attention. Great activity for hyper children that have a hard time with team sports. Well worth the time for your child and you too!

We highly recommend Champion Karate to everyone! There isnt a class that our kids have attended that the instructors are not fully focused, high energy, and full of knowledge! They continue to encourage and teach our kids so many lessons that go beyond class.

My son is learning to be confident, and theyre even helping with his speech. Not something I expected. Its a great place and my son is always impatient to go as soon as he wakes up. Great, fun instructors.

I cant recommend this school enough. Champion Karate is all about the kids, not the money. The instructors clearly love the kids, love teaching, love karate. They are so patient and kind with the kids, while at the same time providing them with just enough motivation, discipline and encouragement. My son has learned so much more than just karate. The instructors here are phenomenal. They teach so much more than just karate. Focus, respect, fitness, and many more. They are pros at handling all different types of behavior. Kids are never made to feel ashamed or discouraged. They are challenged to constantly be better in fun and creative ways. I have also taken kickboxing classes here and they are an awesome work out.

The instructors helped my daughter to become confident and excel in school. After spending 7 years in a school of bullies, she now holds her head up and is having the BEST year she has ever had. This is the ONE thing that means SO VERY much to her that she is willing to work hard at practicing, learning and studying it to become even better at it. FINALLY, something that does not include her iPhone that she enjoys doing!A BIG thank you to Scott, Carlos and Jamie for always inspiring her and being there for her when she really wasnt having a good day. Coodos to 3 men without children who have found a way to relate to every child in different age groups and inspire respect, determination and fun.

Carlos, Jayme, Scott, Luke and Nikki are all amazingly awesome! :) They provide the perfect balance of discipline, motivation and positive encouragement. They clearly love working with children! And they keep the kids engaged and focused while having fun.

The best karate teacher I have ever seenBeyond patient with the kids, and fun. He keeps them all engaged and learning. I had my oldest son in another school for 3 months and he learned NOTHING compared to what Mr. Luke and Mr. Scott taught both of my older kids (6 and 4) in just a few short weeks. They are both testing for their yellow belts tomorrow and I couldnt be more proud. I can not speak highly enough of the teachers at Champion Karate!

All of the people that work here are amazing. My granddaughter loves going to her class. she says it is her HAPPY PLACE I can see the difference in her confidence since she has started.

Mr Luke is a fantastic instructor, one of the best Ive seen in years. One thing that may be difficult to come by is finding a teacher that could effectively teach your child or yourself how to properly and effectively defend yourself and to understand how to do it but I have never seen Mr. Luke have that problem. If youre just looking for a place for your kid for after school programs or summer programs, or just looking for a place to train yourself, I promise you wont find a teacher who is not only as knowledgeable as Mr Luke, but most importantly, as fun. We have been brining our daughter to the class since they opened. Its amazing to see how far she has advanced. We can also see how the skills and focus have transferred over to her every day life at home and in school. What a great staff. We recommend them to everyone.

This is the best martial arts studio Ive ever been to. There is such immense value in the lessons Mr. Luke gives, not only in kenpo but in life as well. He is so passionate about martial arts and he wants to share his passion with everyone who walks in his studio door.

I just recently started at Champion Karate in Winter Park, and I really look forward to going to class each week. I tend to lose interest quickly in repetitive exercise, but these classes keep my attention mentally and physically. Mr. Luke makes every part of the class engaging, changing warm ups each class, teaching a practical self defense techniques, and reviewing precise forms and movements to make each student an effective fighter. Hes also willing to answer any questions about why a move is done a certain way, why it works, or how to improve your form to prevent hard landings, hyperextention, and other injuries that can build up over time if not corrected. Hes very educated and excited about what he teaches, and it really shows in his instruction.

We absolutely love Champion Karate and so thankful we discovered it! My son is 11 and its been such a positive experience for him. Between focus, learning techniques, the dedication, positivity and knowledge of the instructors, they are so good with all the kids instilling very valuable lessons in comradery, and making everyone feel special and inportant. My son looks forward to his classes every week. Well always stay with his lessons for the invaluable benefits it has. I highly recommend Champion Karate for your child.

Mr. Luke was my sons instructor until he opened his own Champion Karate in Winter Park,FL. My son studied with him from a young child up until this year as a middle school student. Mr. Luke found a way to reach my son and keep him engaged in karate. Not only was he able to challenge my son, but I saw him connect with many other students through figuring out what made them excel. He led students to become confident, strong, diligent, and successful while letting them learn and still have fun! I am proud that he had a part in my sons growth. He helped him learn how to defend himself as well as how to be a good student/teacher. We are sad to see him go from our studio, but know that he will be able to touch others lives through American Kenpo in Winter Park.

Mr. Luke gives amazing one on one training and is great at teaching! Even though Ive had knee and back surgery, hes tailored his teaching to fit what Im able to do and has pushed me to be capable of physical activity I didnt know Id be able to achieve! Thanks Mr. Luke!

We absolutely love Champion Karate!From the incredible attention and love we get from the staff, teacher and owner we have felt like we found a new family with Champion. We went to do a trial not knowing if it would be a good fit for our son but we left that night convinced he had found something he loved. He has improved with his focus and discipline drastically. His teachers are in awe of the improvement he made this year. He has ADHD and this has helped him so much. The teachers here are the most patient guys ever! They really take their time to make sure ever child learns the steps and does well. They even offer to help afterhours. We were so blessed to find Champion Karate when we did!I highly recommend it to all families!

My 10 year old son loves coming to Champion Karate!!! If he could go everyday he would. All of the instructors are amazing, they are super personable, full of energy and just fun to be around!

Mr. Luke is a fantastic instructor. Hes absolutely professional. I trust him, completely when we train together. I would never ask for another Instructor. He keeps a really active class! [Expect to really do some work!] Ive also watched him instruct children, and its remarkable how well he does. The children are more advance than I am! Haha. I would recommend Mr. Luke to everyone. Especially if youre new to Kenpo. Hes a fantastic human, hes an amazing instructor, and he is astounding with children. I would recommend to this class to the most experienced and to the least experienced.

There are very few Kenpo places in Central Florida worth the drive. There are even fewer instructors that can motivate in the way Luke Elrod does. Hes an incredibly talented martial artist with a diverse background and can translate that into fun and exciting classes. Excellent with both children and adults. Champion Karate in Winter Park is about as good as you will find anywhere. I myself have 25 years experience in Kenpo and the Martial arts and can not recommend this school enough. If you have the chance, check it out. You will not be sorry.

I have too much to thanks to the instructors and all the crew! we move from dominican republic 1 year ago and we where looking an extra class for our then 5 years old son, and this was the best decision cause no matter the lenguage (cause our son didnt know enough english) and either us! and they make us feel welcomed and our son love the class, he have more auto control, confidence and discipline! thank you guys ! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 (sorry about my english i do my best 🤣👊🏼)
