EDIT - I recognize that I was stressed out and when I called again on Saturday my experience was totally different. They were extremely helpful with getting me in and I couldnt be happier. One person shouldnt have superseded previous experiences but the employee that managed previous calls should be coached on empathy and customer service because the docs are A+ with their attention and follow up.Im extremely disappointed in the customer service. Ive had my cats seen here for 2 years and was previously very impressed. All of the docs have been great, hence three stars. I pay for the VCA club for all of my cats to be seen FREE (AKA, $34 a month) for an evaluation BUT, if you have an urgent need, theyre worthless. I have called twice in three days to have my cat seen due to limping and I get the same answer call at 8am tomorrow and see if we have cancellations...really? You cant squeeze someone in when its urgent??? I have to call the next day to see if you have time to accommodate me? VERY DISAPPOINTED.
Weve followed vet (Dr. Jamie Griffith) around to several offices around the valley for 12+ years now just because of how awesome she is.Our Ridgeback / Boxer mix has loved her since day one, and shes always been super caring & professional, personable & responsive. (Prior to him, she was my Rottweilers vet & I loved that she was not intimidated by the breed & his size/sometimes tough attitude, she was great with him as well.)Dr. Griffith most recently removed an infected canine tooth from our current dog (as hes now a senior 12 yo 84lb guy, theres of course many concerns at that age) but he came thru like a champ. They kept us updated awesomely throughout the day via texts & calls. We love this office & the price transparency over everything to help us weigh options when needed. Everyone weve dealt with there great.
I have been going to this animal hospital for years, and I trust them completely. I have two maltese dogs that are a little barky, and one that is very timid. The staff and doctors always make my dogs feel so comfortable and are so thorough in their examinations and care. They have pointed out things that needed to be addressed with my dogs care that I hadnt thought about. My dogs are like children to me, and I really appreciate this level of service and the kindness that they show towards Ollie and Pimms.
I’ve followed Dr. Griffith from another vets office because she is the absolute best! My German Shepherd is afraid of people and doesn’t allow strangers to touch him, from day 1 he has always been comfortable with her. She is spot on about what my pets’ need while being realistic as far as what money I actually need to spend. I’ve had good experiences at this clinic as well — easy, clean, and helpful.
They almost didnt accept my redeemable AKC visit for no valid reason hahah. Asian lady said they have no contact with AKC, but their info is listed on their website as a network provider? Also doctor put vaccines and lotions in my bad without giving me heads up i would have to pay for em. Was on my way out and they literally took everything back 🤦🏾♂️😂
Ive had nothing but great experiences here. I was referred here by my Mom who had previously taken her dog here. Her dog had a swollen paw but their normal vet couldnt get them in for over a week. My mom called around and this was the first office who treated her with swiftness and kindness, getting her dog in within 24 hours.I had a picked up a stray kitten who was very sick and under weight. A different vet canceled our appointment twice before I called to VCA Jordan River. They were prompt in getting me an appointment. They helped me nurse my kitten back to health, who is now a happy indoor cat.Their doctors are very knowledgeable and helpful. The staff is always kind. Their service compared to the other vet offices Ive been before is far superior.Ive had great experiences here at VCA Jordan River Animal Hospital and highly recommend them.
I brought my GSP in this afternoon for a visit because she clearly had a double eye infection. I had called at least 5 or 6 other places that couldnt get us in for at least another month, and these guys got us in same day. We saw Dr. McMullin and he was fantastic! Very gentle, and our girl was mostly calm and did great the entire visit. She is completely terrified of going to the vet, but these guys (and girls) made her feel safe and provided a safe and non traumatizing experience for both my pup and I. We will be returning for routine care with our other dog, as well as this dog, and highly recommend Jordan River and Dr. McMullin!
Horrible horrible place. Rejecting patients to come in. If you have an emergency or a non emergency keep scrolling to find a vet. This is like the ER telling you can’t come be seen they are full. Why say you are a hospital if you can’t see patients. You need to be considered a regular vet that you have to make an appointment for. No walk in emergencies.
We have taken our German Shepherd here for 10 years. They are so kind and knowledgeable. Recently our sweet dog passed and the staff was so sympathetic and caring with my family, especially my two young boys. There were lots of tears, but such a peaceful feeling in the room. Then a few days later we received a sympathy card in the mail with a kind message and the entire staff had signed it. We recommend this clinic to everyone! They really care about your pet as much as you do. Thanks VCA!
A few weeks back we had to take our 14 year old cat into the vet. The staff here was on time and unbelievably helpful and compassionate. Dr. McMullin was very thorough and informative. He even called me two days later to see how our “little girl” was doing. There prices were very reasonable for everything they did. This is truly the most honest, caring, and professional pet care facility I have ever been too and I would recommend them to everyone. Thank you so much Dr. McMullin and crew. Absolutely the best.
Very unprofessional. Took my dog in an already had a settled price and how they were going to ask us. Once it came to payment time, all the “nice” seemed to go away real fast. Quick uncharges were applied and the services was absolute garbage. Their receptionist Natalie p. Is a real gem with her sarcastic and passive aggressive tones. Not to add on this place looks completely sketchy. If you care about your pet. Find anywhere else.
I would like to first and foremost thank the VCA for having an appointment available before the end of the month. I also appreciated how they handled my cat, even though he was uncharacteristically feisty and scared. I would recommend coming here!
My kitten had gotten spayed about a week ago and she would not keep her cone on therefore causing issues with her incision... a week later her incision actually began splitting open and the clinic I originally took her to couldn’t take her in due to COVID regulations I guess but vca Jordan river was able to fit her in for an emergency surgery and the staff were all great and I am so grateful for them!!
Brought my 4 month old puppy in for basic shots and they ended up finding a foxtail up her nose which I had no idea of. If it werent for these guys who knows how bad it couldve gotten. They arent trying to nickle & dime you, they really care about your animals. Thank you for all that you guys do!
My dog had a very bad infection from being spayed by another vet. VCA made time to get her in and flush the wound and started her on meds. The next day she was worse. Again, VCA made time got her in and had to open her back up and replaced all the sutures (internal and external) She is 100% better and the doctor even followed up with us the next day. More importantly, they LISTENED to my concerns and my sweet baby girl is on her way to recovery. THANK YOU to all the staff at VCA and a HUGE shout out to Dr. Jamie Griffith for listening and comforting me when I broke down in tears.
Today was my first time ever going. The vet that saw my kitty, Jamie Griffith, is absolutely amazing. Very knowledgeable, and compassionate. I highly recommend her! Will definitely be back. Thank you so much Jamie Griffith!
Dr. Griffith has been great with our pets (dogs and cats). We had an emergency with one of our dogs and even though they didnt have any appointments available they found a way to get us in. Weve been going to Dr. Griffith for years and have always appreciated her professionalism and comfort she has given our fur babies.
I would not recommend going to this VCA. I brought my dog in twice for her limping/injury. The vet checked her knee both times and told her to lose weight, rest and go on light walks. We did what she said, but nothing changed. Came in a 3rd time months later because the limp never went away and a different vet checked her hip. She has hip displaysia from an injury and its recommended she gets a hip replacement. Im extremely disappointed that her hip was never checked when she was first injured and I wonder how different her care and recovery would have been if she had been appropriately checked. On top of that, the total hip replacement with the surgeon they recommend costs $2.2k for a FHO and $6k for a THO. So I wonder what astronomical costs would have been avoided as well.Additionally, they charge a whole lot more than other places for x-rays. They charge a crazy amount for prescriptions.Care Club doesnt transfer to other locations if you move so youre out any of the benefits.
Not professional. Tech brought me my bill on a post it note. Had to request itemized invoice.I was allowed there, and glad I was to witness the abuse to my cat.My cat was hysterical and left with bleeding ears.I will never go back.
I brought my cat in with some really bad tooth infections that had turned into a huge swollen infection in his cheek that had burst and was bleeding. I was there for over an hour, most of it spent alone in the room with my cat. The vet, Dr. Griffith, looked him over and we talked about his health and options for treatment. She didnt clean his wound or administer any antibiotics. I told her I had limited funds, I applied for the Care Credit but was denied due to poor credit. I was charged $85 for my visit....$85 to sit in a room with my cat and talk to the vet and her assistants for a few minutes here and there. She wrote me prescriptions to fill elsewhere. Im upset that I left without any care to my cat, not even cleaning the hole in his cheek. Also, the girls at the counter felt the need to make a snide remark to my husband who had been sitting out in the car with our young child and who has injured feet - they, wondering what it was going to take for him to get out of his truck and come in. -He had come in to fill out the care credit form. Rather rude. Its not their business why hes out in the car. Otherwise, the assistants were friendly and the vet answered my questions. I do not feel the visit was worth the money in the least when nothing was done. And on top of that, I had to pay over $20 to fill his antibiotic prescription at Walgreens. My cat is worth it, but that visit wasnt. Ill be seeking further treatment elsewhere.
I had a “Free First Visit” coupon and had a 10wk old puppy that needed shots. I called before the appointment to clarify costs after my coupon was applied and was told it would be around $40.I went to the appointment and Dr Griffith was kind and examined my pup. She looked in his ears and said they looked a little pink but nothing serious... but just to be sure wanted to swab it. She swabbed his ear and came back to report there wasn’t as ear infection YET but to be precautionary would use some ear drops. She did let me know that the ear drops were $35, but would be a good idea to use to prevent having to come back. I agreed. At check out I discovered the swab was $50...I never was told this BEFORE or AFTER the swab was done.My $40 appointment turned into $116....after the swab, ear drops (for an infection that isn’t there) vaccines and more precautionary ear drops to use at home.Unfortunately my “Free First Visit” was 2x the amount at local veterinary offices.Be careful. This clinic does not explain charges and takes advantage of pet owners.
Definitely recommend Dr. Griffith! We brought our sweet kitty here after she had an emergency surgery at Cottonwood & was having issues that they were not helping us resolve. She has gone above & beyond & helped our sweet girl, who is now back to her playful self! She has called to check on her & made sure to call me with updates when she had to stay over night. I honestly believe we would not have our girl with us had we not brought her here, I HIGHLY recommend!
I took my angel there as an emergency.... Right before closing time..... Not only did they see me, they had me back the next morning, and between the two (female) vets my dog is still with me..... Happy and functional. Thank you for everything but the compassion and empathy I was shown will never be forgotten.
Great clinic! They don’t pressure you into anything but breakdown the pros and cons of any route you decide to take in your pets well-being. Friendly and caring staff, been going to these guys for 3 years and had great results for both of our dogs!
I was very impressed by the kindness of everyone I met during our visits. Dr. Griffith was wonderful with my dog Rocky and she called a couple of times to follow up and fit us in first thing when we needed to come in for a follow up. Thank you for taking care if him 💚🐾
This location isnt the worst but Id definitely recommend going elsewhere. The people at the front desk are not very welcoming and had a snobby attitude on the phone. During my visit I was told that swabs would be $45 and my receipt shows they were actually around $60. I felt like Dr. Griffith did not actually care about my dogs but seemed to feel they were just another paycheck. I went in solely for a check up with the new client discount ($25 per pet) and ended up leaving with a bill that was over $300. I have been to better veterinary offices (that spoil my dogs when I come in) that cost less. As a pet owner you want what is best for your fur babies but you also want to be able to afford rent at the end of the month too.
I have a 90lb pitbull that hates his nails done. The local Petsmart and Petco wont clip them anymore. But Ive never had any sort of problem at VCA! They get him in and out quickly as though its easy, and it is not! I dont ever hear whining or barking when they take him back and hes so happy when hes done, not terrified. I come all the way from Kaysville just to get his nails done because his phobia is so bad and they are amazing! They dont look at him differently because of his breed like other places, and treat him so well. I love it here!
Ive been taking my two dogs to Dr. Myrick for over a year now. He is great with them both and makes them feel comfortable on the ordinarily uneasy examination table. He comes into the office on his scheduled days off to check on his furry patients because he genuinely cares about animals. The staff is always great too and treat my pups with the utmost respect.
Horrible horrible staff. Was not advised in any way shape or form I could not go in w my pet and just drop them off like dry cleaning. Was left outside crying and cxld my appointment. I get covid protocol however telling me well we dont have an email on file to let u know is no excuse. I should have been made aware on my initial phone call and then let me decide. What if my pet died alone. First part of good customer experience is capturing all valid forms of communication at point of contact. Ihave gone here in the past and really wasnt impressed and felt very pricey for pet meds. I definitely will not EVER be going back. Please I implore you if you are reading this look elsewhere!!! Covid or no covid
I believe we received good care but please beware they are very expensive and nickel and dime you to death. They quoted a price for a procedure, in our case a neuter and two days boarding, then when we checked in the final price quote was more than double quoted over the phone. At that point we didn’t have a choice we were leaving town. Never met the doc, just a technician. I would suggest you be very careful regarding pricing with VCA.
Very nice facility. Lobby and exam room clean and there is a nice calming atmosphere. Dr. Myrick is professional and kind. We went to Jordan River for a 2nd opinion and Dr. Myrick listened to our concerns, spent time with our pet, and explained everything very well. Very pleased. Thank you for the great care.
I arrived at this clinic 15 minutes early for an appointment only to find out I was at the wrong veterinary clinic!!! They were very kind and arranged to see my dog anyway. The staff was wonderful. Dr. Griffith was great, she took care of my senior dog with the most simple solution and has checked back to make sure my dog is doing ok. She was very sweet while being quick and efficient and explained the problem very well so I could understand. They were very fast and accomidating especially for someone who showed up unexpected, by mistake. I will be returning .
My Great Dane had gotten into something he shouldnt have, so I called the first place that was actually open after trying unsuccessfully to find ipecac anywhere, who knew most stores took it off their shelves. I spoke to a super nice lady that told me it was going to cost a certain amount to give my dog a shot. So I rushed him down, I get there, and the place is clean, well organized and the vet was super informative. When I left to pay, the cost went up by about $20 over what I was quoted and I was in a rush to get to work so I didnt feel like arguing over it. So overall, the experience was good, I just felt a bit slighted from the phone quote to the final payout.
Everyone is great here. Their prices are reasonable and theyve been open when other vets are closed. Weve switched to make them our primary choice for our petcare
I have been taking my pups here since Ive owned dogs. The staff is always very knowledgeable and friendly. If you want top notch care for your fur babies I would recommend everyone to bring them here.
Got vaccinations updated for both of our dogs, and the team at VCA was great. They were friendly, prompt, and good with the animals. I will definitely go back for future services.
Ive been going to this hospital for years, and had a bad experience a few years ago. Took my cat in to get a neuter. And they wanted to declaw. A few years later I couldnt find a decent vet for my other cat. So I came back to this hospital and had pretty good experiences, until I find out just recently, that the steroid shot theyve been giving my cat for his coughing was too high of a dose. I will never step foot in this hospital again.
Got us right in and were berry thorough. We will be switching our full time care to VCA.
Puddi Loves Jordan River Animal Hospital, the staff there are great, I think i have the only dog who likes going to the Vet!.They provide a break down of the costs and my options each time so that I can get the important stuff immediately and plan for future costs.Great Place
Highly recommend VCA Jordan River Animal Hospital! The Veterinarians & staff are absolutely superb. They alway treat our fur babies like their own. 🙌🏼
Ive been going to Rob Myrick for my Vet needs for many years. My dog Jasper always receives the best care and he truly cares about his health as much as I do. Wouldnt take my pets anywhere else. Thanks!
The staff was very helpful and considerate and dr. Dawn Bailey was exceptional. Her compassion surpassed our expectation and helped us through this very sad day . Thank you from the bottom of our hearts
The whole staff is friendly and very helpful. They have taken great care of both of our pets, Jaxson and Sassy.I would recommend them to anyone. The doctors seem to really care about the health and well being of their patients.
I absolutely love this animal hospital. My puppy got very sick and when we rushed him to this location. We were told he was in bad shape and they werent sure if he would make it. After a couple hours of giving him fluids and stabilizing him we were sent to an overnight facility....on our way to the 24 hour overnight place my sweet puppy was more alert than I expected. I give all the credit to the vet Dr. Bailey for saving my sweet boy and I have since been a loyal customer to this place for all my veterinary needs with my dogs. I just want to thank Bailey for saving my dogs life and if anyone ever needs a vet please go to Bailey as she will do everything she can to make sure your pet gets the best treatment possible. I honestly dont think my baby boy would be alive today if it werent for her and I get tears thinking about it because ever since she saved his life he has brought so much joy to our lives. Thank you so much for looking out for our puppy and putting him first in the time of need. I will never be able to repay you for the amazing services. Love Trish, Ron, Kiwi and of course our baby Kaydo we all love you and everyone that helped Kaydo!! 😍
I bring all my cats and dogs to Dr. Silkman. He is the most knowledgeable veterinarian I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. He truly cares about all my pets and I trust their lives with him. I drive 30 minutes to see him and will never go anywhere else.
I can only feel sorry for any pet who is taken to Dr. Silkman for treatment. We had a very sick cat who, after treatment, a 3 day stay, and planned release following am, had a setback requiring surgery at 3am. I was wide awake at that time, waiting to bring kitty home. Instead of calling us, the crackpot dr let our cat suffer until we arrived at opening time. He recommended immediate surgery, we agreed. He had two smiling assistants ask us if we wanted gowns to view surgery. We went into OR where Silkman proceeded to show us our kittys insides while he blamed us for our cats situation - urinary blockage then said euthanasia was only option. This man is horrible, money hungry, and doesnt care about the animals he treats. If he did, he wouldve called us at 3am, or simply operated instead of waiting a critical 5 hours letting our baby suffer! Also, if you want to visit a pet, staff throws a fit, gives you dirty looks, and makes you leave after 5 minutes. Staff is almost as evil as doctor - should have seen them getting us to surgery table, they were smiling while my kitty was dying! Its been a few years and Im shaking writing this, but feel people should know what this place is really like.
My black lab hadnt had a puppy in over 4 hours so I brought her in, they charged us 50 just to look at her then came back and wanted to do 2 x-rays for $300 and an ultrasound for another 200. We told them to just do an ultrasound and found out there were 2 puppies alive. Instead of offering a calcium shot or something that would help her naturally they told me he could either do a c-section for $1800 or give her some $26 dollar shots to induce contractions. So we did the shots to induce her. We left 300 in the hole and she ended up having the rest of the puppies on her own, but it almost took a whole day after the visit. They didnt even offer to give her anything to boost her energy which is all she really needed they just wanted us to spend spend spend. Quote from the vet I will do a a c-section if you have the resources then he went on to say, I have an appointment I have to get to so we need to decide fast. Thanks for a dead puppy! I will be going to another vet to get the puppies dew claws removed.
Dr. Bailey is very patient with animals and Ive loved taking my cat here.
I will never take my pets there again. Both times theyve made the issuse worse. They are costly and rude. The VCA in Taylorsville is much better!
IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET DO NOT TAKE IT TO JORDAN RIVER ANIMAL HOSPITAL! All they care about is charging you as much as possible and giving you nothing in return. We took our dog in during emergency hours because she hadnt felt well and was getting worse. It must be the same emergency doctor that everyone else here has complained about. It was Andrew J De Socio that was working that night. They took her into another room for the exam and did not let us go in with her. First Red Flag! They charged us over $500 for a blood and urinalysis and said they didnt know what was wrong with her. They wanted $300 more for x-rays so we took her home. Then she stopped eating and we took her to another vet. We had the blood test sent over to the other vet. From those results and a physical exam, they could tell right off she had massive tumors inside her and because she had grown so weak and was anemic they could not operate and we ended up putting her to sleep. If Jordan River Animal Hospital had told us this a week before, instead of trying to soak us for more money, it would have saved our dog a lot of pain and suffering.
Extremely expensive, wrong diagnosis, only wants more things to charge you for. Found a way better vet whose heart is truly in it. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Ive been here several times. We come here more often than not. Our visit today was especially good. My dog woke up yesterday morning with a big hard lump on his front right leg. I took him in after hours to BluePearl last night, and was told that they wanted to test him for cancer (twice apparently) do blood work, and sedate him for it, which was going to run a tab of over $800. I opted to wait until today and bring him into Jordan River and I am so glad that I did.Dr. Myrick was great. Very polite, very knowledgeable, and we really liked the way he was with our doggo Biff, who was very very nervous. He checked his joints, asked a lot of questions, explained what he was thinking and what the possibilities were, and decided to take a cell sample with a needle and look at it with the microscope. With this he was able to determine it was very very unlikely cancer, and he diagnosed hygroma. After explaining everything to us we agreed that this made the most sense, and we left feeling relieved and having had a very pleasant experience. We really appreciated Dr. Myricks bedside manner and his way of taking the time to talk with us, ask questions, and explain everything. After all was said and done, we left paying $130 for everything, including him taking the sample, looking at it, and some anti-inflammatory medicine. I feel very happy paying this for the peace of mind I got from the visit. We will definitely be coming back and I would recommend this place to anyone.Edit: Just want to add that I had another great experience today with Dr. Griffen. Very good with my nervous pup. Very knowledgeable, and once again prices were much better than the quote I got from another vet office. Ive noticed that a lot of the negative reviews on here dealt with Dr. Silkman. Years ago I had not likes this place because of him either, but he no longer works here and I am a big fan of the Dr.s and staff now.
If I could give zero stars I would! This place is horrible, worst experience ever. Took my ten week old puppy in and they put me in a room and took my puppy for 45 minutes while I sat in the room and listened to them yell at her to be quiet because she was crying. Then they charged me an arm and a leg when they provided no treatment in the end. Dont go here even if its a weekend find someone else who is open!! Go see Dr. Foster at the Millcreek vet he is worth the drive!
My dog was run over by a car and I though he was going to have to be put down. I brought him here and the staff immediately took over his care and saved his life. He ended up having to have pins put in his leg and endure 8 weeks of splints and bandages. There were complications and each time the staff helped me through it. I woulndt hesitate to bring another pet here for an emergency but they arent cheap. I take my pets somewhere else for routine vaccinations.
Dr. Silkman and the entire staff have taken exemplary care of my Boston Terrier for several years. I recommend Jordan River Animal Hospital in the highest manner possible and without question.
I have always been treated well during my visits to Jordan River Animal Hospital. I am confident that my pets are treated with the best care available by kind and knowledgeable staff. I have been taking all of my pets there for the last 8 years and have never been dissatisfied. Through the years, we have had to say goodbye to some of my kids which is difficult to do. Not once during those difficult times did I ever feel that the doctors tried to continue unnecessary treatments to increase the bill. Rather, they supported my decision and helped me let go.One thing that I appreciate the most is the after care availability. Durning an emergency, I want to see someone who already has a relationship with me and my pet and has their history available for quick reference. When I have had to utilize Jordan Rivers emergency services, most of the background information is already on hand, making a more efficent transition to the care required. Also, having staff on site 24 hours is comforting when my pets have required hospitalization. For a nervous mom its nice to call at midnight to check on them!My experience has been one filled with great staff, caring vets, and many treatments not found at serval other facilities. When your vet calls you the next day to see how things are going, and that day is his off day, it really shows they care.
Love this place! So friendly, affordable, and they genuinely care about your pet!
Friendly, knowledgeable staff that took great care of Beans! Thank you so much!
Dr. Silkman and his staff have taken care of our pets for 13 years now. That should say it right there. Theyve helped us through one dogs epilepsy, another dogs serious skin problems (CURED with meds from Dr.); and over all special care. Cant see going anywhere else for care.UPDATE: Its now 16+ years of care for our pets. Ive had to see other vets, as emergencies arose and we were traveling. Dr. SIlkmans care is superior to what weve seen elsewhere.
Weve taken our Border Collie and 2 of our Yorkiess to JRAH, 4 different times for emergencies. Although; emergencies are expensive, the care on all 4 occasions over a 3 year period has always been professional and thorough. Our little 8 week old Yorkie passed away and the staff was exceptionally sensitive. Would recommend especially in the case of an emergency. Stephanie Merrill, South Jorday, Utah.
I had to bring my sick Sheltie and my Cherry Head Conure in to see Dr Livecchi. He was GREAT. In one X-ray he found a cancerous turmor in my 12 year old Sheltie. I am broken hearted but I know what is wrong. He did not advise expensive treatments and has helped me with loving palative care. During all this my Conure developed a nasty fungal infection. I was told by someone else she had a stroke. Dr Livecchi immediately correctly diagnosed her (she was near death), prescribed meds and she is recovering nicely. Vet care and services are expensive but Dr Livecchi only did what was necessary and didnt waste my time or $$$. I am so grateful to him and his staff for their kindness, professionalism and expertise that I cant recommend them enough!
THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE...I had to take my dog here for an emergency visit after hours because she was not moving and would not eat, when we first get there another couple is waiting and crying...they had to put their dog down, while we were in the waiting room we could hear the dog CRY OUT in pain as they euthanized it...the man asked the vet tech why she had cried out and he simply said it was because it confused her. When I had to euthanzie my other dog, which was at another vet, she just peacefully fell asleep, no crying out or anything. Anyway after that the vet comes in to see my dog, takes her heartbeat then puts her down to let her walk around and says since shes an Australian Shepherd she had a seizure, his reasoning was because her breed has high percentage of seizures, then he gave us valium for if she had another one. The next day she was not any better, which typically symptoms after seizures last about 30 minutes! We called and they said it was still the after effects of the seizure. Anyway I was so concerned for my dog that I went to a different vet to take a look at her, he immediatly took her temperature...which they had not done at Jordan river...and her temperature was 106 degrees! That is when their organs can start shutting down and she had, had a fever for a day longer because they didnt even take her temperature in the exam!!!! We called to complain after we found out she had a fever and they lied to us saying they had taken her temperature and it was normal...There were 3 of us in there while he examed her and not one of us saw him take the temperature, then I asked for a copy of her records and no where on the list does it state her temperature. Like isnt that one of the first things you should do in an exam? Anyway I would not recommend this place. My dog could have died due to negligence! Dr. Terry Silkman was the vet that took care of her. I would highly recommend taking your animal to Copper View Animal Hospital they have been amazing through this and the Dr. even gave me his cell number just in case i needed to ask him questions or anything during the weekend while he was off.
I will never visit this clinic again. I brought in my cat because she was peeing blood and in obvious amounts of pain. The veterinarian I unfortunately had to deal with was DR. TERRY SILKMAN. Upon arriving, he had pretty much concluded that she was dealing with stress, and the stress was causing her to pee blood. Obviously she was stressed in his eyes- she was meowing and hissing because he was holding her against the table so she couldnt move.He proceeded to take her in the back to take a urinalysis, where he decided he had to sedate her. When the test was over, he told me there were no crystals in her urine and she showed no sign of stones, meaning all signs were pointing to stress. When he was giving me his fifteen minute speech about how UTIs are uncommon because the literature says so, I asked a question. Upon answering my question, he referred to me as interrupting his presentation, but kindly went ahead and answered it anyway. After this was all said and done, I left, $250 bill in hand, along with a topical anti anxiety medication to give my stressed cat.Fast forward, two days later. My cat is significantly getting worse; she wont leave the litter box, wont let anyone touch her and is trying to pee in places other than her box to give herself relief. I took her to my regular clinic (I only took her to Jordan River as an emergency, after hours), to see why she is getting worse. I had the urinalysis faxed to this clinic, where I told the vet what DR TERRY SILKMAN had told me about no crystals or stones being found. This is where it gets interesting.NO URINALYSIS WAS RUN DUE TO THE URINE SAMPLE NOT BEING BIG ENOUGH. It said it right there in the paperwork that that was faxed over, that I was never sent home with.DR. TERRY SILKMAN LIED TO ME ABOUT WHAT PROCEDURES HAD BEEN DONE.He trusted so much in himself that she was stressed, dismissing us, overlooking the true issue at hand. She actually had a UTI.This is the most inhumane clinic I have ever come across. Something needs to be done to stop them from being allowed to see our animals. All they are concerned is the money that they will be making. Not the pain our animals are suffering from.
My experience at Jordan River Animal Hospital was fantastic. A few years back, my cat Miso started to lose weight very quickly, and my wife and I were desperate to figure out what was wrong. We searched for a number of different vets, and asked our friends for recommendations, and JRAH kept coming up. I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Silkman, and I was impressed with the time he spent with us. He explained all of the potential issues that we could be facing in a very down-to-earth way, and gave us his recommendation. It turned out Miso had developed diabetes (not weight-related), and Dr. Silkman taught us everything we needed to know to take care of Miso. After two years of periodic visits to JRAH, Miso overcame her diabetes, and I feel like my wife and I (along with our two cats) are part of the Jordan River Animal Hospital family. My experience here has far exceeded what Ive encountered with other vets (not that others have been bad, but the service at JRAH is exceptional), and I trust both of may cats to their care (since they are certified cat-friendly).
My cat Lucky was diagnosed with kidney disease in July 2013 by a vet in another facility who did not tell me what stage it was in, what to look for or anything else helpful with that condition. When Lucky started vomiting and I didnt know what to do for him on a Sunday, I decided to take him to Jordan River for an emergency visit because it was the closest place that was open. I was very glad I made that decision. Dr. Thatcher was working that day, and he took the time to care for my cat in the way that I expected. He told me that the disease was very advanced, which the other vet did not tell me, and what I could expect for Luckys future. Because of his care and attention to detail, I moved all of my pet records over to JRAH. Unfortunately Luckys disease was too advanced, and he got more sick and had to be put down, but through all of it, Dr. Thatcher and the JRAH staff was there to lend support and care to me and to Lucky. I have recommended Dr. Thatcher and JRAH to many people since.Another positive experience I had was in August of 2013. I went out of town and had to board my 15-year-old dog in a facility. After two days, they called to tell me that he wasnt eating or doing very well at all, and advised for me to have someone pick him up. I had a friend take him to JRAH, and Dr. Silkman was working that day. He assessed BJ and called me to tell me of the costs. Yes, they were higher than I was used to, having gone to a less expensive but less caring veterinary office over the years, but after talking with Dr. Silkman about the options, I understood that the care BJ would receive would be 100% worth the cost. At first, because he wasnt eating on his own, BJ had to be hand fed wet food twice per day by the vet or his staff. During the first three days, Dr. Silkman called me promptly at 8 a.m. every single day to give me an update on how BJ was doing and what the previous days outcomes were for him. By the fourth day, BJ was finally eating on his own, and I think that the personal care that he received is what helped him to get better. Even though I had talked with Dr. Silkman every day while I was gone, when I picked BJ up after a week, the staff member that brought him out to me went over everything again to make sure I knew every detail of BJs stay. I havent yet met Dr. Silkman in person, but I truly feel that he is a very thorough veterinarian that cares for the animals that come to his office. I recommend him, Dr. Thatcher and JRAH to anyone I know of that has pets.
I took my 7 1/2 year old pure bred Basset in because we noticed he had a growth (tumor) by his back leg in October. Our normal vet, Dr. Gillespie was not there, so I spoke with Dr. Terry Silkman. When I spoke with Dr. Silkman, I advised him numerous of times that we see Dr. Gillespie and Dr. Silkman NEVER advised me that he was no longer there. He advised that my Basset needed surgery and gave us a list of expenses. One of the expenses was a biopsy of the tumor. When I asked Dr. Silkman what they all do concerning the biopsy, all he told me was it was to insure that he got all of the tumor. Dr. Silkman did not tell me that the biopsy of the tumor tells them what stage it is in or what kind of tumor it was. Our bill/statement list of expenses ranged from $1,000.00 to $1600.00. When my husband took our dog in for the surgery, the cost was the high of $1600.00 when he came and picked him up. When my husband asked for more detail of the bill, the front desk person advised that she would need to get the doctor. Dr. Silkman came out and yelled at my husband for even asking for him to explain the expenses. My husband advised Dr. Silkman that we usually have Dr. Gillespie look at our dogs and that is when we found out that our vet, Dr. Gillespie was no longer there. Because of the unprofessionalism, we decided to take our dog to another vet after the staples were removed from the surgery. We took our dog back in 2 weeks later, got the staples removed and all Dr. Silkman said was he looked good. He did not advise us of anything to look for within the next few weeks. Within a week, our basset got an infection and we noticed that there was fluid around the incision. We then took him to a new vet and they looked at him and gave us some medication for the inflammation and the infection. A week later, our basset for 7 1/2 years died within a month from getting his surgery from Dr. Silkman. I cannot believe that Dr. Silkman is even in business still, the way he treats his customers. His professionalism and care for the pet owners and the pets are despicable. I spoke to our new vet and asked why our basset died and he advised that it was tumor related. If we knew what we knew now, we would have gotten the biopsy done and made a decision on what to do from that biopsy. We really did not have the information needed to make an educated decision. It just seems all they wanted was our money and nothing else. Dr. Silkman as no compassion, no professionalism and all he cared about was how much money to soak us with. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!!
NEVER USE THIS ANIMAL HOSPITAL - ESPECIALLY FOR EMERGENCIES - THEY WILL TRY TO PERFORM THE MOST EXPENSIVE PROCEDURES AND DONT EVEN KNOW HOW TO DIAGNOSE A FEVER. Because this hospital advertises 24 emergency care (which isnt actually true, they come in and charge extra for after hours), we took our cat there on a Sunday night because she seeming to be choking on something, The vet was unable to get a temperature, refused to scope her because we wouldnt agree to a $300 x ray first. She wouldve needed to be scoped if she was actually choking on something just to remove it regardless. Scoping with a $10 sedative wouldve been the expedient and effective treatment. Instead he thought maybe she had asthma or a lung infection (which would be indicated with a fever though, which she didnt have, or he couldnt tell.). I disagreed but because I wouldnt xray her, he gave her a shot of antibiotic and steroids without telling me they were $35 EACH. But the receipt they printed out said Diphendramine (an antihistamine). Regardless when I took her to our regular vet the next day even though he was no longer gagging and coughing, they confirmed by scoping her that she had had a large foreign body in her throat, but it had either passed into the stomach or lungs and it was too late at that point to get it out; if she had aspirated it into her lungs even a very expensive surgery wouldnt likely save her. Sadly, she passed away a few days later.
Staff is super friendly and took care of us and our puppy. Thanks!
Love Jordan River Animal Hospital. Staff and Doctors are wonderful!!
Dr. Silkman doesnt write his own medical records, he makes his under paid staff do it for him.
