Extremely beautiful nail salon! Be prepared to wait longer than average times. Staff is lacks in communication and standard customer service. Thus, if you are here for ambiance—look no further. If you are looking for quality and a luxury experience—keep looking. The space unfortunately does not make up for the latter.
Seems like a really nice place, so I booked over a week ahead for a full set acrylics and a pedicure. Got there to find a line of 3 other people waiting for a nail tech (at least one of them also had an appointment) and all of the 8 employees were already busy taking care of customers and estimated at least a 30 minute wait… I asked if they would make an exception and cancel my appointment so I could go elsewhere and they agreed. Seems like they do great work, but don’t count on actually getting your nails done even if you have an appointment.
So happy I walked in two weeks ago! Super friendly service, and excellent work,Overall, super happy how it turned out! Would definitely go back again.
My friend and i are frequent patrons. The nail techs here do a great job every time!I love coming to this nail salon! Every time Ive come here Ive been treated with the best service and care.
I tired to give them a second shot because the first time didn’t go too well… but this time was even worst! This is by far the worst nail salon I’ve been to only because they do you nails whoever they want and they rush when they don’t want to do your set. It’s nail Salon in the Hood that’s does why better for less!
Lily is really good and friendly. I came at around 3 pm on a Friday and had to wait around 20 minutes to get mani and pedi, but it was worth it because she did a great, thorough job. In comparison to other nail salons in the area, the prices are good and the place itself is very nice. I definitely recommend it!
Meh. My regular salon was booked, so I came here. In a rush the whole time. Cuticles, massage, painting were phoned in, no attention to detail, seemed in a hurry to get me out after waiting 1/2 hour with a reservation. This may have been my tech because it appears some techs know what they are doingBeware, a lot of the 5 star reviews arent by DC residents and give 5 star reviews with the same wording for salons all over the country.
The staff was friendly, professional and efficient. The parrafin wax is a great addition to the services that I received. Pedicure was great with the massage being the highlight. I would go back, but would need to bring my own color as their regular polish selection is very limited. Overall, good experience.
By far the worst nails salon I’ve every been too they can’t even do a simple set and when you tell them you don’t like your nail they act slow
My husbands pedicure was rushed so much that the nail tech cut his toe. The bleeding is so bad that his sock is soaked in blood and he is in pain. She did not apologize and no one offered comfort. His nails are uneven and missing a clear coat. He was not asked if he wanted a clear coat to go with his pedicure. He was literally in and out of the chair in 20 mins and left very unsatisfied. This nail salon is only concerned about money and not satisfaction. Don’t be fooled by the good looks, the service is trash.
Beautiful establishment, much service not worth the $$.
Nice decor, they offer free beverages, and Tracy always does an amazing job!
Good service, Excellent work...a little chilly - guess they are saving money on electric - but they had a heater near the manicurist chair. I love the decor!
I had an Amazing experience; Hannah was kind, professional and gave me an exceptional Mani/Pedi with the best massage Ive had in ages. Im looking forward to my next visit.
The $35 House Pedicure was AMAZING!! I had a party of 3 and made a reservation online - but I did call to confirm & was able to be seated even though we arrived early. A member of my party got a spa pedicure and LOVED IT!! I will be returning every 2 weeks.
I received a Gel Manicure and Pedicure on Friday September 18th. Today Thursday September 24th I am peeling my manicure completely off. The manicure job was HORRIBLE. I figured I would just let this manicure last me until I go back and let them know. The Gel started to chip, I have never had this experience before. I just moved into the area and thought this would be a nice nail bat to try out. I was sadly mistaken.
I just got back from a gel manicure, and I wont go back. First of all, when I walked in, all the staff were maskless. They ushered me to sit and I kept having to say, not until the technicians mask is on. Then, throughout my appointment, 2-3 employees walked in separately maskless and didnt put masks on until reaching the back. This completely violates Mayor Bowsers mask order and made me extremely uncomfortable. Moreover, quality was bad. After finishing my nails, I looked down and three of them were completely uneven. Not only uneven, but one side of the nail had an angled square edge, and other side was rounded--presumably from the rapid nail cutting job. I had my technician fix it after, but I still had to file down my thumb to be even when I got home. This is less of an issue, but two of my nails feel crinkly, and I got gel. On its own I wouldnt mind, but overall it felt like a cheap, bad quality manicure.
Such a great nail salon! Been going for a few months and the gel manicures have lasted 3 weeks or more. I did chip a nail shortly after one of my manicures but I went back within the 5 days and they fixed it for me for no charge. Very good service and beautiful salon
Don’t let the cute decor fool you, even though they are extremely nice, they don’t know what they are doing. They made both my friend and I bleed during our manicures. And my gel polish is already starting to chip after 3 days 🙃. Don’t waste your money!!......Kristi, I did provide feedback during my visit and had my nails repainted 5 times. At a certain point, I had to move on with my day. The prices that are being charged here, should be reflective of the service being provided which they are not. I mean my friend did an add on of a paraffin wax, and was told to put her hand in a bag full of lotion and oil and then had a hot towel wrapped around it. If that’s not the perfect example of not knowing what you are doing, I don’t know what is. And your response to even mention I had a bad experience because I didn’t speak up, shows the lack of customer focus which is why I won’t be returning or recommending.
I got a gel manicure last week. I wasn’t crazy how the lady did my nails. 6 days later my nail chipped. I went back and then repainted the chipped nail. The next day my nail on my other finger chipped. Services were expensive and I expect my nails to last me way longer than they did. Poor quality
I had such a great experience at this nail salon. They pay a lot of attention to detail and have really affordable prices. I will definitely be going back!
This salon is awesome!!! Do not listen to the other negative reviews. They are super nice and professional. And the salon is very glamorous and girly. I loved my experience and will be back!
The first time I went to salon, even though I read the bad reviews I was pleased with the service i received. They have a huge selection of colors and the place is spacious. I was not too pleased with the bar stools at the manicure station, the seats are not that comfortable. When I returned in a little over two weeks to get my gel manicure removed that’s when things quickly took a downturn. To not go at length to recount why I won’t be returning although it’s a super convenient location for me, I will just sum it up and say their customer service is horrible. They have not figured out to properly manage reservations and walk-ins. Also, each time I was there someone was coming back to have the nail tech fix their nails bc they had recently got them done and there was an error in the application that needed to be fixed.Maybe this is the just the kinks of a new salon, and she will read the reviews and try to up theirs game. There are so many salons in this area and there is a new upscale looking one coming soon, so they will have to get it together to keep customers.
I came here for my first ever manicure and wowwww I loved it. They are very sweet. Pay attention to details. Sterile and clean equipment. I really appreciate that the staff made sure I was comfortable and addressed all of my needs.
Lucy is very good at her job. She helped me with my pedicure and manicure and I loved the results of her work. She is very patient and listens to every detail I tell her. I would definitely recommend her!
My first time going there. Ive never loved my nails more! I got a fill on acrylics that were done elsewhere.I were so impressed and happy with the results and would definitely recommend this salon!
All the girls there are so friendly and professional .This place is very clean. The whole staff is friendly.Love my new gel nails.
I read all of the negative reviews, and I was not sure I wanted to take a risk and try this place. Im glad I did. I had a really good pedicure experience. I was offered water or wine and I asked to look at some magazines while getting my pedicure, since I didnt see any, and I was given a stack to read. My nail technician even went out of her way to find me the exact polish color I was looking for. While I was there, no one was turned away or had any problems with other nail technicians. Here are the downsides. As others mentioned, theres not a huge variety of nail colors. I wish they would have offered a scrub or an upgraded pedicure with more callous removal, but I also didnt ask. Ill definitely return as I really like the atmosphere compared to other nail salons nearby. I think some of these negative reviews are likely legitimate, but I would be skeptical of the of the extremely negative reviews.
I came here a couple of times and both times the staff was very friendly, professional, quick, and do a great job with my nails! Thanks Lucy. They have a great selection of nail polishes to choose from and the space is clean and very open.
I live right across the street so I’ve been waiting for this place to open for a while. Very happy with my pedicure & gel mani and will definitely be back. The prices are a little higher than the other place down the street, but I’m willing to pay the extra $4 for the nicer atmosphere.
Lee was absolutely amazing. Took extra care of my toes. Loved the massages. Overall a very excellent experience. Loved my pedi and gel mani. Thank you.
Excellent
Amazing!! Nail Tech listened to my concerns and assured me that she would assist me!! I am so satisfied with my pedicure!!Made and appointment to return for a mani/pedi in two weeks for the BDay!!
Jessie always does a great job! I always come for armpits,, quick and easy. Ive been there many times, and I will be back.
Made an appointment for Sunday at 11, right when they open. I waited 15 minutes, but no one showed up to open the shop. Wish I had read the other reviews first. Lots of not honoring reservations.
This was my first and LAST time! Don’t waist your time and money here! I originally was attracted to their stylish and glittery design and beautiful chandeliers, but the customer service turned out to be quite the opposite, it was the worst. The technicians were not friendly and didn’t speak any English. My manicure and pedicure were so rough and painful that I asked her at least 5-7 times to go easy, which was also clear nonverbally without speaking the language, but she didn’t listen and ignored me, so I definitely couldn’t enjoy it or relax the whole time. Also there were no prices listed on the web or in the store except their Happy Hour specials. I ended up paying over $100 after being hurt and bleeding...
All nail technicians here do not have valid D.C Nail Technician licenses. I have reported Modern Nail Bar for operating nail services without being professionally certified. Management can prove me wrong simply display all staffs nail licenses. Very poor services, Do not come here and waste your money
Regulat manicure and nails look great. However cutting my cuticles seem to be a challenge. Why some manicuist are not very skilled in this I dont know. It is the most important part of the manicure!
Great service. Very nice and stylish place.
I was in tears and left bleeding on several nails from a manicure. The blood stained the light colored dip I paid $100 for. I reached out to the owners who promised to make it right. They ended up ghosting me and doing nothing.
Look cute 🙄 but wont last long i called asked specifically gel. Fill in stiletto nails she said we do acrylic powder with a gel color paint over top, the dumbest finesse game i ever heard, places like that wont last, who would pay acrylic price for a gel twist FOH
I have been waiting for this Google page to be posted for a few weeks so I could leave a review to prevent others from having the same horrible experience I did. I live in an apartment building right down the street and was excited when the signs went up for Modern Nail Bar. When they opened I could see that the inside was beautiful and that the prices were slightly above average for the neighborhood. Like other reviewers have mentioned, I have no problem paying a few dollars extra for a better experience. While the interiors ARE lovely and comfortable, the service was completely unacceptable. The man doing my nails, while friendly, was clearly not a professional nail technician of any kind. As I was browsing the gel colors (which included OPI) he came up and I said could I just have white OPI? which I often just ask for because salons usually hold it in a separate place for french manicures. He nodded and seemed to understand but when I sat down for my pedicure he brought over a brand Ive never heard of and started doing my nails. Not the end of the world, I let it go. Long story short, my pedicure resulted in painful, bleeding toes. He cut my big toe down so far and in such an asymmetrical way that walking was painful for over a week, I was actually concerned I might have to go to a doctor. My finger nails were uneven in length and the gel started chipping the very next day - it was way too thick and the unknown brand of polish (which I looked up later) was obviously cheap and low quality. In 10 years of getting my nails done I have never had a pedicure last less than 2 weeks. This one had major chips within 3 days. $80+ later and I might as well not have gone at all. I dont blame the technician. If hes being hired without proper training, its on the owner (who was there the entire time talking on the phone). Reading the reviews from their salon in navy yard, it seems like this kind of experience is a pattern at all except their original location. I recommend Four Season Nails or Blue Bell instead. Not as fancy but who cares if you can get a decent manicure?
Lee Rocks! I love my nails 💜
I went there three times and each time my gel manicure chipped on the third day. So sad. Not going there again.
The woman removing my gel manicure flicked her hands while they were drenched in 100% acetone which made acetone go into my eyes and my mouth, which was open because I was speaking. Very unprofessional and dangerous.
Don’t bother making reservations — they don’t honor them. I waited for an hour past my reservation time and left, and not so much as an apology for being inconsiderate.
Gel nails only lasted a week and then when I went back to remove them, they damaged my nails and cuticles.
Terrible service. Made an appointment, waited 30 mins, then left.
Came at 10:00 when they said they are open and no one was to be found
Terrible customer service
