If I could I would give this place a negative star. Front desk and management super rude, wouldn’t even give me their name or let me talk to a supervisor. Bathrooms and showers are old and gross and they don’t have steam room, and the sauna is broke. They don’t give towel services eitherI would never go here

Do NOT try out this gym. After taking my contact information for a trial, they have refused to stop calling me for 6 months about a membership, sometimes calling multiple times a day, despite having asked numerous times to be removed from their call list. This is a terrible business, and under no circumstances should anyone go try this gym. There are plenty of great options in the city at a similar price point that have a reasonable level of human decency.

Slimy billing practices could a bad sign. After WSC-Georgetown closed, the management of WSC-Glover Park, a legally separate institution, seem to have copied over their recurring billing charge details. Without approval I found myself paying for months. When it was pointed out to them they argued with me, although I never set foot in their gym or had any interest in it. My point is that an absolute lack of principles here could very well be reflected in other matters, affecting all customers. A bad place in one area could be bad in all.

It absolutely pains me to have to write this review after being part of the WSC for more than two years now. The gym was never perfect and of course had a lot of areas it could improve on but that is what I had gotten accustomed and had expected from my neighborhood gym. But after seeing them making one negatively impacting decision to the next in the span of the last year, I had to write a review to possibly get the attention from the right people. The staff on the ground is forced to face the consequences of the management that had not handled the COVID response professionally. After their Dupont Circle location had been subjected to scrutiny from the Washington City govt. all of a sudden WSC management decided to take reactionary yet extreme precautions at a location where members were doing their best to protect themselves and their fellow gym members. The gym in the last week has decommissioned over 60 percent of their equipment without a notice to its members. Yet, the capacity of the gym continues to be the same as before these changes which is 178. With 60 percent of the equipment gone, there are not 178 spots in the gym for members to exercise at. This has resulted in members over crowding in areas to wait for the equipment to be free, which one could argue is opposite of the intent they were going for. Instead of holistically looking at the situation and may be utilizing some of the closed spaces such as the Basketball court and Group exercise rooms and turn them in to stretching areas OR cardio zones, the management decided to simply decommission the machines instead of doing logical reorganization of the gym. There also seems to be a huge communication gap between what is being used by the members and what was left behind. Some of the regularly used equipment was removed to accommodate never used equipment. And the next step to the over crowding issue, will be SIMPLY ADDRESSED by policing the gym floor instead of solving the root of the issue. Prove me wrong because that would be sadly the right thing to do.

The place was never working, equipment broken, TVs had not worked for—well, ever on many of the machines. The only kind people were the cleaning crew who clearly tried their best to keep up. This club is less than one star. I am immunosuppressant snd cannot workout at the gym. Initially, I spoke with the GM and they said I could place my membership on hold until the pandemic was over. Then, I check my account and there are SEVERAL smaller charges from them from the last SIX Months! (Yes, I didn’t catch it for medical reasons). Now, apparently they say I had to have canceled. So, one person says one thing, then another says another. When I tried to go in many times after that I was unable to get ahold of anyone who could help. So, now it’s going to get messy. If someone is reading this snd has the same issue there is a huge lawsuit going on now against the parent company, JOIN IT! I love the fact this gym was so close, I HATE the fact that they are sneaky money stealing meanies!

I never write reviews but this has to be said: Washington Sports Clubs (and their parent company) could not be any more shady. I *literally* could not speak to anybody to cancel my membership after the pandemic struck. I was moving out of state and there was absolutely no response from the company to any contact I attempted. All WSC locations seemed to have their phones disconnected, giving a generic Verizon message. Nobody responded to any emails, and the gyms themselves were closed all while they kept on charging people for a service nobody could use. I sent a cancellation request via certified mail but I still had to call my bank and block WSC from charging me because this company is so incompetent and shady. The gyms and price are decent but DO NOT fall for it. Go literally anywhere else...you will regret joining WSC.

I enjoy going to the gym and working on strength and form. I like to use a variety of machines and free weights. Unfortunately this particular location has a unique mix of unsafe, outdated, sparse, and grimy equipment that adds frustration to probably everyones routine. Ive seen a few bros get a little short with each other because of equipment hogging - which is not hard to do when there is not enough functional equipment. If you are a fan of jogging on the treadmill, stair climbing, or getting on the elliptical youre probably okay (?) although I recall seeing a lot of out of order signs on their machines at one point.A refresh would do wonders for this location.Regarding the nice response below. Thanks for the additional information. I wrote the original post on 7/14 and found the email (after much digging) regarding updated safety policies dated as 6/22/2020. I have never done this before but this gym is so bad I feel like I have no choice but to warn others.1) The gym itself doesnt have a good variety of workout equipment and the very little they have is very worned out.2) They were charging my credit card while the gym was closed during the pandemic until the disctrict told them they would get sued if they continued (they have gotten sued before for their billing practices).3) sent out an email saying they could not give the money back but they would simply give us a credit when they reopened.4) no credit was given and they continue to charge my account.5) atter a complain they finally gave me a credit that would apply towards my cancellation fee.6) They decided to change their hours from 5 am to a (NON-MANDATED) 6 am and this is fine; however, I am in healthcare and this took away my ability to continue to come in. I decided to cancel my membership since they pretty much told me it may be indefinite.7) So I told them that I would need to cancel. They tell me that I have to pay for an additional 45 days to cancel. I told them that they were charging me when the gyms were closed.8) they charged my account on August 1st and I cancelled on August 8th. So I told them I would want that money back and they said the 45 days can not include money I already paid. I told them that I can not go if they change their hours. So basically it is not 45 days notice for me but 68 days notice since they would not count the rest of august as part of my cancellation fee.9) why in the world do they even need 45 days notice when you are in a month to month membership???? because they are special??10) They charge me a YEARLY FEE because my new year started AUGUST 1st so I still have to give them this fee even though I can not attend at all because of a choice they made (NOT MANDATED). and trust me it has nothing to do because of cleaning practices. Yes I did not cancel on time but it was only 8 days!! and I had to cancel because of a choice they made. who would pay for something they can not use???11) after all the fees I see another charge for $10 dollars. I had finally settled with the idea that I would eat all the fees and look in my bank account to see they are still charging??? I called to ask why are they still secretly charging my account without telling me? they say it is a cancellation fee. so I asked what is the 45 days exra fee (68 days extra for me)? the yearly fee??? so to click a button they charge ten dollars extra. I told them I have HBO and Netflix and when I cancel there is no 10 dollar fee to press a button and they certainly do not tell me I have to give them 45 days. Even when you rent a place month to month you only give 30 days and they do not ask for a yearly fee and 10 dollars fee to press cancel. Why are they so special?? it is ridiculous. I am sending the info to consumer affairs. Anyone reading this please send me directions to the right BOARD to make a complain about this. thank you.

As you go to this gym, you begin to wonder what the gym trainers/workers here really do. Nice people, but it seems as though they were never told to maintain the gym organized. Apart from the fact that people who go here have the worst gym etiquette i’ve ever experienced, never puts the weights/equipment they took back where it was before, i also have never seen anyone who works here walk by and put those weights back where it belongs. They simply just walk around, that’s it. You will come here and spend most of the time at this gym waiting on someone because it gets absurdly overcrowded, and/or looking for weights and equipment that are scattered everywhere. Don’t bother coming here to save some money, it’s not worth it.

I’ve been a member here for about 6 months. I think it’s a pretty standard mass market gym. I wouldn’t go out of my way to go here, but it’s a good option if you live in the area. The staff is usually pretty helpful if you know how to deal with them. Of course it’s overcrowded-this shouldn’t surprise anyone, but I’m usually able to workout just fine. My number one gripe with them is cleanliness. Weights are all over the place. Racks are dirty. A lot of stuff in corners or by walls is dusty and it takes them a long time to get broken equipment fixed. They can also get better WiFi since they advertise it as an amenity and it’s super slow at times. The sauna and pool are a plus. No surprises here.

I was attacked by a woman who was a friend of the manager and several gym member complaint about her since she was very aggressive and threatened to assault several members. The woman left several weights all over the place and was not using them. When people tried to use the weights she will curse at people and tell them that she is using them all at once (7 sets of weights ) then she went on to try to attack people who was working out next to her. The gym is always packed and everyone needs to share the working out space. She tried to assault me when I was doing squats next to her. Other members were also threatened by her for the same reason and 10 + members went to complaint to the manager since she seemed unstable. The manager responded “ she must just be having a bad day” I guess according to the manager that’s is a legal defense for assault or harassment of gym members who are not his friends. Simular incidents have occurred in the basketball court where they allow friends who are not members to get in for free without any repercussions. There has been fights in the basketball court and the police has been called on several occasions to the gym. There police was even called for a threat of a gun in the basketball court... guns are not legal in dc - the Tun has cameras but the managers cover all the bad activity and no manager is available when some problem erupts. This gym is absolutely awful. My biggest frustration comes with the complete incompetence of the employees who just walk around and expect customers to just become so frustrated that they leave. During my time at this gym, I was looking for a rope that attaches to the cable machine. This equipment is at every single gym. After a few weeks of not finding one, I asked an employee who simply said yeah people steal them so we stopped ordering them. I have been a member here for over a year so I feel I can give a good review. I lift weights and use the weight machines, but not the aerobic equipment. The biggest issues with this gym are1)There are too many members so youll usually have to wait to use the weight lifting equipment2) Many members try to superset so they will use two or more machines at once and leave a towel on the equipment they are not using so you dont use it yourself. This creates a bottleneck of people waiting to use a specific machine & makes it hard to get in and get out quickly3) Personal trainers not associated with this gym will often come in to train people and claim more than one piece of equipment & they are usually quite hostile. Im surprised the gym lets these trainers come in and steal business from the gym. This gym heavily recruits new members so it always feels like the overcrowding issue is getting worse. If youre considering this gym for strength training or bodybuilding, I wouldnt recommend it unless you live really close and arent too serious because its hard to get a good workout in a timely manner. There are 4 benches and 2 seats for free weights and usually just one machine for each specific body part.If you are considering it, then visit on a time and day that you plan to exercise so you get an idea of how crowded it will be. Also, dont get suckered into signing just because there is a special. This gym constantly runs specials so you should be able to get a discount regardless

I was sold a package, and was immediately double charged. I had my membership cancelled and put into another package due to being “sold the incorrect offer,” which only led to being charged, once again, for the charge they said wouldn’t be taken out. This has been four months of this. The customer service email they provide, even then ones provided in response to the reviews, just leads you to a person who makes you feel like it’s your fault for accepting the deal you were sold, even if they don’t follow through on the deal. Don’t even try. They won’t give you corporate contact information - so just accept it. Absolutely worst customer service ever.

Finally, they accepted my cancellation and sent it to the central office for processing. Then, the central office e-mailed me and demanded that I call them on the phone because, although they had my correct credit card number every time they had ever tried to take money from me before, suddenly it was off by one digit when they were trying to close out the account, so they couldnt close it out. Pros: As a gym, its fine, no better or worse than your average college gym. The selection and number of machines is okay, and I never found it so busy that I couldnt get done what I needed to. Its also incredibly conveniently located.Cons: The cancellation policy and hidden fees are clearly meant merely to separate you from your money without your realizing it. Aside from the cancellation fee itself and the 45-day notice requirement, theres another ridiculous policy: Even if you do everything right (like going in person to cancel and providing 45-days notice), youll still be charged the annual fee if its not 46 days or more after the day you provided your cancellation notice.I was a three-year member and put in my 45-day notice before my annual fee was up, but because my yearly fee was due before 45 days elapsed, they charged me the annual fee. You have to go into the place and they take you to a managers room in the back and try to get you to not cancel by reducing your rate etc but it was still way too expensive for me. Also i saw an ad on the metro for pretty much all the other WSCs in the area for like $30 a month but not this one. I paid $70. And there is a $25 cancellation fee. What the hell?!?!I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANY TOWN SPORTS CLUB

I’ve been a member for 2 years and it’s just ridiculous. The bathrooms are DISGUSTING, it’s a 50/50 chance of actually getting toilet paper. The stalls are nasty and look like they’ve never been cleaned. The fact that it costs $65 a month is ridiculous. Go to VIDA it is WAY nicer for almost the same money.

Its a convenient place. I am not a gym rat but like to exercise and like the variety (b- ball court, pool etc.). But have never had issue finding exercise machines either. Those that complain and have a Mr./Mrs. Universe routine then need to build a gym in their house. Or they probably had some bad luck or a bad day and just are being too critical cause they have an ax to grind. I believe it to be a nice gym with nice staff and accommodations. If I had to say anything is that for the membership it has it could be cheaper.

Ive enjoyed this gym overall, and the staffs customer service by phone and in person, but they will need to slow down on membership sales because its getting ridiculously crowded. And, I am peeved that they began promoting childrens swim classes heavily about a year after I joined, when there are not enough lanes in the pool to accommodate regular members. There are nearly free ($10 for a series of 8 classes) swim lessons at DC city indoor and outdoor pools all over town, and a YMCA nearby for kids and families. I signed up for a gym where adults go to work out. It would not be such a problem if the pool were not already too small to accommodate everyone paying monthly memberships, and if it were not the key reason I go to this particular gym. I often use the city pools, too, but was used of a different experience at a gym I pay for monthly.

Washington Sports Clubs STEAL FROM MEMBERS LOCKERS and ADMITTED IT and then say they are not responsible. They stole EVERYTHING from my locker, clothes, hair products makeup, shoes, everything after 12 years of membership with my ENTIRE OFFICE! THe manager said they THREW MY THINGS AWAY! Who does that?? The club manager ADMITTED he made a mistake but they REFUSE to refund my money or replace my personal items!! Dont join this club! WASHINGTON SPORTS CLUB!! DO THE RIGHT THING! REPLACE WHAT YOU STOLE FROM A LOYAL MEMBER! Oh, and the executive office offered to replace 2 items. NO WAY. What crooks!

The place is overcrowded and understaffed to maintain a breathable environment. You cant find an email online to cancel the membership. When I signed up, 5 people will have access to my email to give me personal training. However, when I tried to cancel, they become nonresponsive. The website quotes no hidden fees, but when I cancel according to the contract, I was charged 10$ twice, once for personal trainer and one for the general membership. They copied and pasted the same HereToHelp team to all the reviews. When the HereToHelp team reached out, they said that I cant cancel via email or phone, but I have to do it in person. You can join online in just a few clicks, but if you want to cancel, you have to do it in person.

Be careful!I signed up for WSC Columbia Heights when I moved here from Georgetown. I started work the next week and learned free gym was provided by my employer. I called to cancel and was told I had to talk to the general manager, and that he was unavailable. The associate told me the general manager would call me first thing the next day. He did not. I called two days later and once again was told he was not available and that the associate would personally deliver the note herself. Skip forward a week and I get a call from the GM. He said he did not have a record of when I requested to cancel (for some reason the associates did not record the date of the cancellation requests) and said I also could have cancelled in person (again neither of the associates mentioned this, and this is what I would have preferred, because I walk right by every day). I told him I did not remember the exact days I requested a cancellation but that it was within the 14 day trial period. He did not accept this answer and fought me to remember the exact dates I called (I was walking outside when he called and did not remember off the top of my head the dates). He did not accept that answer and moving forward he was belligerent when I told him I would fight any charges made to my card. I am now waiting to see if I am charged for a year of gym access I do not need.

** I had to edit my review because now after having tried to cancel my membership for 4 months, they are continuing to withdraw the monthly fee. THIS PLACE IS A SCAM!**Listen to the reviews. Everything that has been said about the poor customer service was only confirmed my own terrible experience. When I originally went in to see if they had any free trial options, I was instantly bombarded with the most aggressive membership salesman I have ever seen. I eventually signed up on a monthly basis because I was unsure of how long I’d be living in the area. In the second month they will charge you an extra $70 as a so called “annual fee”. This fee was never made clear to me when I signed and is completely unnecessary considering the $70+/month contract should already be more than enough to cover cleaning and maintenance (what else would the fee go towards). This is what prompted me to request the cancellation of my membership. Everything went downhill from there. After asking to cancel my membership and have the $70 annual fee refunded because I was only there for two months, they told me there was still going to be a $25 cancellation fee. What is the point of paying extra for the monthly contract if you still get a cancellation fee??After some back and fourth, the manager and I agreed that I would get the annual fee refunded as well as the following month because the cancellation wouldn’t be processed in time, but I would still be charged the cancellation fee.The next month came around and I got charged for that month. I had to go in again just to remind them to submit the proper paperwork to get me my refund. After I thought this nonsense was done, they proceeded to charge me for the month after that! I called them immediately asking why my membership wasn’t cancelled and they blamed it on me for not providing the proper paperwork. This is completely untrue especially considering I went in twice to ensure they did their job.Ultimately after two months I got my full refund and my membership cancelled. This gym plays fast and loose with your bank accounts. If you are on a budget and every dollar in your bank account matters, do not pay this gym. They will take advantage of you and your money unless you go out of your way to stop them. The only reason I give this place a star at all is because the gym itself is adequate altho lacking in the free weight department.

The equipment is old and worn down. It is very crowded and there is almost always a wait for equipment. Members gym etiquette is terrible. Dirty towels left on the floor and free weights are never put back where they belong. You will find them scattered all throughout the gym.Worst of the worst though is customer service. Deceptive business practices, little to no follow through on actions promised, no one taking responsibility for issues (its always someone elses responsibility...and whoever that person is is never available), unprofessional staff, and a generally poor attitude (with the exception of Jerreh who was very nice but still didnt follow through). I have been a member for barely a month and am already attempting to cancel my membership (which seems near impossible).

This gym robbed me of motivation to exercise for a year and a half. Everything is always broken. They have no limits to membership, so it is packed full of people during the morning and evening rush. People feel totally justified leaving equipment or towels all over the place, and the management seems to never have enough staff on hand to pick up. The machines are old and are never replaced, only half-heartedly repaired. It is not worth your money.

I visited the club recently, as I would like to see if I can use their swimming and how much it is cost! Very simple questions, but the guys at the front desk told me that they dont know and they suggested somebody to meet me and discuss my options! What the deal?! I only want to know the cost of monthly membership fees or if I can use the swimming pool on an ad hoc basis, how much it is costs! I dont want to talk to a sales person! Why it is such a big deal to simply tell me how much its costs! dont like this approach!

This gym, and company as a whole, has absolutely appalling customer service, like I have never experienced elsewhere in my life. They will lie to your face about the fees that are associated with your membership, and when the time comes that you would like to terminate your membership, you will be charged with fees that you were promised by WSC management would not occur. This is a slimy business that does not care for its customers. Just look at all of the terrible customer reviews that point out the same glaring issues. When WSC responds saying we are always looking for ways to improve, it is not genuine, or even true. Steer clear.

Horrible. The childcare workers are abominable. They are always looking at their phones and ignoring the children. My son is two so he is able to entertain himself sometimes but they do zero for him when he cries. I was there and I could hear his screaming through my headphones all the way on the other side of the cardio room. I waited ten minutes to see if he would calm down and when he didnt, I went to get him. I wanted in and he was standing at the glass door just sobbing and what was the childcare worker doing? Looking at her phone on the other side of the room.Other times I have been in there with really little ones screaming their poor little heads off in the jumper or strapped in the stroller facing the tv. One time the worker picked a poor little girl up just as the mom walked in to show she had been caring for her. If you are looking for childcare, go yo the Y. This place is terrible. Also, the machines never work, the pool is dirty and the locker rooms are gross. Bad all around.

Go somewhere it will be cheaper and better. The staff are lazy and rude. Unless youre a hot woman, dont expect a hello, goodbye, or any other verbal or physical acknowledgement that you exist other than a hand halfheartedly trying to scan your keycard. Most of the machines work in some capacity, but not fully. Allegedly there are a lot of classes, but Ive never had the time to call ahead to get a card to try and get into one.Good luck trying to update any info on their website because it wont work.Like everything at this intersection the location is the only reason theyre still in business.
