Very clean, friendly helpful staff, great place for a workout
Kindest staff. Very clean. Would highly recommend!
They take advantage of their members as much as they can. They ripe you off.
I love everybody at S&H in Tenleytown! The staff is amazing and always so welcoming - I feel like Im coming home every time I work out! If youre looking for a personal trainer, Brian is awesome - encouraging and kind, but he still pushes you out of your comfort zone! Ive been a member for 1.5 years since I graduated from American University, and Im planning on staying a member in the future. Highly recommend for anyone local looking for a safe and comfortable place to workout :)
Decent commercial gym.3 squat racks, 1 deadlift platform, 2 flat benches, 1 include bench, dumbbells up to 100lbs, and multiple adjustable benches. There are also BUMPER PLATES, however, there are only 2 pairs of 45lb rubber plates. There’s a good selection of hammer strength plate loaded machines and other cable assisted machines. Also has an 8 station cable machine. If you go around 6pm-8pm, you might have a hard time finding a machine/squat rack/bench/etc...Should have a hard time finding a cardio machine... there’s plenty of those...
Its a nice gym. The staff are friendly.
This is an outstanding gym with high-quality, clean and modern equipment. Staff is friendly. There is no swimming pool, as Wilson is basically across the street from the gym. There is a sauna in the locker rooms. They have parking for bicycles in front of the entrance with sturdy metal bike racks. It is a great neighborhood gym.
Northwest Sport and Health is the perfect gym. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The facility is always clean and has everything you need. Great instructors and all types of fitness classes and training available. The kids’ club is our favorite. The caregivers are experienced and caring, you can enjoy your workout without a worry. Love this place and highly recommend. Thank you!
These folks are way great and have taken on the job of gettingme off my walker. Sounds easy, but balance and stability arevery complex issues, especially with a 65 year old retired mechanic.
CLEAN! Great staff! EXCELLENT management! 10 stars!
I got a bribery call with the new manager offering a free pass to change my review! It stands! horrible concept and overpriced company! Planet fitness is bigger, better, and cheaper! In my experience with this place its extremely easy to sign up but seemingly impossible to cancel. Its expensive and if you want to become a member of the locations that have pools the already expensive fee is even higher! This place taught me one thing! A free workout trainer app is majorly worth the download! Gyms are becoming a major rip off!
Ive only been there a few days and the whole team makes me feel so welcomed! Theyre funny and it makes you want to come every day. Theres machines there that Ive never ever seen before, the classes and instructors are so friendly and continuously providing encouragement. Theres also so many classes to choose from for different levels and you can walk in or out when needed, always at your own pace! I had my first training session with Lisa and seriously found my partner! Shes wonderful, caring, and I can wait to see what results I see in my near future!!
Ive been going here for years and love this place. Its super clean, staff are friendly, and hours are great. I particularly love the variety of classes they offer. You have a ton of options (AM & PM) and the instructors are just really kind, encouraging, fun people. Any time Ive had a question or concern, theyve been super receptive and helpful.
I have been a member of Northwest Sport and Health for 10+ years. I like this gym for exercise because it is laid back, but has excellent equipment and a diverse membership. I have worked with several Personal Trainers at this gym. All were good, but John Vallimarescu is one of the best Personal Trainers I have ever had. He is very careful to address the unique needs of each client. He pushes you but does not exert excessive pressure -- perfect balance. I would recommend him to anyone looking for an outstanding Personal Trainer at NW S&H.
I love, love, love Northwest Sport & Health. The members are wonderful -- as an instructor, it is one of my favorite clubs to teach at -- and I see a lot of clubs! The group exercise classes are fun and there is something for everyone. Its also a wonderful, clean facility with an outstanding staff, who are always friendly and helpful. I really cant say enough good things about this club.
There are some good instructors for Body Pump and Gary is awesome. The classes have zero circulation and none of the rooms have fans even for the spinning. I wish they would change up the class schedule, it has been pretty much the same for the last two years. Nice facilities and well maintained.
This is a great neighborhood gym with all the amenities you could want. The gym and locker room are clean, lots of equipment choices and never too busy that you have to wait for a machine. Tons of free, quality class options. And the staff are friendly and responsive. No complaints.
Shout-out to Garry J. His Club Strength and Step classes on Saturday mornings are super fun, great cardio workouts. He is truly sincere and genuine, and treats everyone with respect. No wonder his classes are so crowded, like sardines in a can. He is a real asset to Sport & Health.
Love this gym! The classes are the best-I love Garry for club strength and I love body pump with Heather and Angie. There is a new teacher for club strength on Sundays who is awesome, his name is Isaiah-his class is P90x style. Id like to see more of a selection of classes on Friday evening after 5pm-specifically a body pump or club strength class.
Garry Js classes are the best in town. He keeps you moving for the full hour with great music and exercises that include free weights, aerobics, and planks. It is always great to be a part of this class.
I have been working for the Sport and Health family now for 1 year and it has been hands down one of the most rewarding in my career. We have such a great member base! They are always open to new trends in the fitness industry and love our end of the month appreciation. During member appreciation we invite local businesses in to participate in 2 days completely devoted to our members! Our member appreciation is open anyone so if you havent stopped in please do March 30th and 31st this month! Last but definitely not least I want to add I am so amazed by our dedicated staff. Each day they go above and beyond for each member and guests whenever they can ensuring we are delivering the ultimate fitness experience to every member and guest every time!
I really enjoy this club. It is small, but well equipped. I never have a problem finding a machine (cardio or weight) to use. While I have never taken a class there, the ones that I do see while working out are well attended. The TNT Training program is very good.
Rejoined for BANG classes because they’re great. It is a great workout and the time flies. Terrific choreography, music, and enthusiastic instruction. Front desk and cleaning staff is also cordial
Northwest sport and health is beautiful and clean with a very friendly staff! It is a great place to train. Special kudos to John V. who I have trained with for a while who combines a supportive demeanor with a desire for each client to reach their maximum potential. I would highly recommend him!
Excellent to be back on a pilates reformer.
John Vallimarescu is wonderful! He is helping me to navigate recovery after a neurological illness, and he does this with good humor, optimism, and never-ending interest in the field. He researches options and constantly brings new ideas to our work together. I recommend him with sincere enthusiasm! Kathy Jones
I love working out here. This establish is always immaculate. They have up to date machinery and a staff that loves their job and the people who visit. In particular they have a front seat attendant by the name of Bisola. Her love for life, and positive feedback on my progress really gives me the boost I need to continue my journey for the body I want.
Joined the NW Sport & Health a few weeks ago. Great gym for the price - modern, clean, great mix of classes and so much nicer than the bigger one at Tenleytown. One of our highlights has been the Monday/Friday morning spin classes with Robert - he is brilliant. He brings structure, great music and one of the best spin classes we have done in DC (and weve tried quite a few). Hope hes a regular spin instructor.
Not fancy but nice. Every age and ability. They provide towels and have every piece of equipment you could want.
This review is for Lady S. Zumba instructor at the club. Her choreography is amazing. She is very friendly and encouraging. She is a superb dancer!
Love NW Sport and Health. I can always get on an elliptical. Just started a barre class--for strength. With good music and teachers, the hour goes by quickly.
Ive been a member for months and have had an excellent experience. This place is always clean, with newer machines in decent shape, and friendly management to help.
Shoutout to the man who handles the janitorial duties at this gym (I believe his name is Derek?). He is an exemplary employee, always smiling & courteous, as well as extremely hardworking. With his hard work, the results are a gym that is extremely clean and orderly --The McDermott Family
Five stars and five hearts too! Its no secret how much I lovvvve Northwest Sport&Health. Super-dedicated instructors, trainers, and staff, and The. Nicest. Members. Always look forward to seeing (and sweating with :) ) the Northwest crew and count myself reallyreally lucky to be a part of this community.
I have worked here for almost a year. Not the biggest location but it is my favorite. Great community and fun coworkers.
When I moved to the area, I joined this gym without much second thought. It is located one block from the metro, is competitively priced ($43 a month after tax) and has great amenities, staff, and classes.Alex, the general manager, is always friendly and helpful. As for the amenities, there is a variety of equipment and enough designated spaces for bodyweight exercises. Locker rooms are clean and spacious. I attend Sarahs Bang Power Dance class 1-2 times a week. Its not as corny as zumba (sorry, zumba fans!) and is pretty intense even for my 23-year-old, former-competitive-gymnast self. Ive also tried two other classes, barre and P90x, which were challenging and well-taught too.All in all, I have no complaints. Thanks for keeping me healthy and happy, NW Sport & Health! And thank you again for the bike (I won their raffle!).
I have been a member of Sport&Health since Northwest opened! This gym offers a wide array of exercise programs - yoga, classes, machines, free weights, personal training. Something for each of us at any age. Most recently I have done some post PT training with John Villamarescu. As we know it can be daunting to come back from injury or illness, but he has been knowledgable, supportive, flexible, and always encouraging, engaged and effective. He somehow makes the work enjoyable! Five stars!
I am happy with the variety of classes and high quality instructors, although weekend classes are crowded. My favorites classes are the morning zumba classes with Ashley and Lady, both of whom make exercise fun. I would like to see more morning zumba classes, ideally about 8:45 am, which is currently an open time slot.
What is best than being part of a great club?To notice that management, fellow staff members and most importantly the members are top notch and make this a great club to go, work out, and just feel better afterwards from an all around best experience. Great facilities, always clean, very accesible and sense of community and family like no other!
When I joined I felt like I was joining a community. Leaving, I feel I have been used by a predatory business. This review is about my experience canceling membership at this gym. I had no issues with the gym - always found it clean and functional - I just needed to cancel my membership because I am moving out of the neighborhood. When I communicated about this with the manager I was shocked to learn that the gym (essentially) needed a two month cancellation notice. When I followed up by speaking with the manager (Alex Switzky), I found him to be condescending and even insulting. The response the gym gave to my review (below) is no different. The membership process was NOT transparent. I had know idea that I was making this type of financial commitment when I joined. I find it insulting to be treated as though I do not remember my own experience joining. I do.The day I joined NW Sport & Health, I went in simply to tour the facility. I walked out with a membership. I thought I had a made a good decision to care for my health, and some ways I had. But I would have never agreed to a year long membership on the spot. I have never considered my home in Tenleytown to be permanent. I would have never made a one year commitment to a gym. The salesperson I spoke with had an easy demeanor. I trusted him, and now I see that I was mislead. If you doubt my memory over the gym staff assertion, consider this: Gym membership contracts are so problematic, there are multiple articles online about how to get oneself out of such a contract. This quote, in particular, helped me not succumb to the gaslighting of the Northwest Sport & Health staff. From Money Under 30, “Quit Your Gym Membership”:“Most gym contracts contain deviously clever language that make sure to squeeze every last possible drop of unwarranted money out of you. The system is arranged to have you always paying a month ahead, unable to get a refund for your most recent unused month of service. In the best case scenario, you’ll still have to pay for 30 more days once you do everything you need to quit. A retention specialist may convince you to keep your membership for a while since you’ll be paying for it anyway, but don’t fall for the trap.”So there it is. While I was understandably shocked, because Northwest Sport & Health IS taking “unwarranted money” from me, Alex (and now Tina C. as well) have completely dismissed my concerns. If you choose to use this gym, make sure to read the entire contract before you sign it. Per my experience, you cannot trust the salesperson to explain it for you - all they want to do is get you to join. Once you’re in, do not expect management to work with you or even respect you. You will need to conform to what you signed, whether you understood it or not at the time.
Large and really nicely appointed gym by the Tenleytown metro. Good prices!
I joined this gym a couple of months ago and I love this place! I had no idea I could take my kids to the gym with me, for less than what a nanny would cost and get a good work out/break without breaking the bank. They have a great space for kids, flexible hours and classes. I highly reccomend to any mom/family that is looking for a gym that can fit on their busy life schedule. The gym is small but it has great ammenities, clean bathrooms and my kids have a great time playing in there. I signed up after taking a tour with Yaz (membership manager) she was very helpful and able to find me a great deal.
Ive been training with John at Tenley Sport & Health for over a year now, and I am living proof of the excellence of his training. Thanks to John, I have met my goal weight and can honestly say that Ive never felt better, healthier, stronger, or more fit!John is extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of training, kinesiology, nutrition and diet. He is very patient, and even when I havent done well, he will always find some aspect of my performance to compliment. He is always encouraging and eagerly shares his knowledge according to your needs and inquiries.Im very grateful to John for all that he has taught me about fitness and diet, andespecially for his kindness, generosity of spirit, and patience with older and non-athletic types like me!
Every time I look for someplace better, I end up staying. Friendly and pleasant staff, and everything I need to keep myself in shape.
I really enjoy working at Sport and Health. My manager, Lisa Scalzo, is very helpful and has really improved the club.
Ive been a member since 1999, and I am very happy at NW S&H. The staff this year is the best its ever been. I am always greeted with a friendly welcome and a smile, and wishes for a good workout. The management staff is great, and doing a great job. I use the free weights section, and I take classes -- mostly dance, zumba, barre, bang, and yoga. Robin Goelman is doing a great job as group fitness director, and she is an amazing teacher, dancer and presence at the club. I like all the teachers including Ashley, Sarah, Jean Barthe, Alston, and Jen Young. Thank you Brooke for greeting me every day I come in. Thank you to the lovely cleaning staff, you do amazing work. I have the option to join a cheaper club closer to my house. The one request I have is to find a way to get people to re-rack their weights when they are done lifting. Just common courtesy. Posting signs doesnt seem to do the trick.
Ive been a member of Northwest Sport & Health for many years, but my fitness hit a whole new level when I started working with Amir Mosaddeghifar in January 2017. Under his guidance, Ive increased my strength and stamina despite bad knees and a sometimes ornery rotator cuff. And thanks to his nutrition advice, Ive exceeded my weight loss goals. Thank you, S&H, for having such top-notch trainers.
Great place small but it has it all I need
The staff is incredible! Very positive and fun atmosphere.
This company routinely plasters my neighborhood with its signs, placing them on public land, which is illegal and an F-U to their neighbors.Ive approached them nicely about this practice, through friendly phone calls and emails and then somewhat more forceful communications where Ive cited the DC legal code in emails that states that signs for for-profit companies are illegal on public land.Anyway, this is a stupid issue. I shouldnt need to ask them pretty please to stop doing illegal and assholish activities, but they do, and have for years, so heres my one star.
I joined when I moved to the area in January 2017 and immediately started training with Amir Mosaddeghifar. Amir listened to my goals and was able to quickly develop a plan for me to reach them. Not only did I reach my goal, but I did it in less than three months and then was able to quickly set a new, more advanced goal, thanks to Amirs help. Amirs positive energy coupled with stern motivation is what got me to where I am today. I could not be more happy about working with Amir for these last three months. Im glad the membership coordinator, Lee, set me up with him. 5 stars all around!
Great staff! pleasant, always smiling and willing to help.
NW Sport & Health is a great gym with excellent staff, especially personal trainer Amir. His expertise, professionalism and dedication to his clients are outstanding. Training with Amir has exceeded all my expectations, and I would highly recommend. Having reached my 3 month goal of losing 30lb, I will continue training with him, taking my fitness and health goals to a higher level.I also love the range of classes offered at the gym, with fantastic instructors. Garys Club Strength and Jens Hard Drive and Tough Mudder classes are fun and exhilirating! Three months ago I never would have imagined I could do anything like what I am able to do now. A huge thank you to Amir and Northwest Sport & Health for helping me change my world and wellbeing!
I Joined NW to help recovery from a debilitating sciatica which had weakened and debilitated me.I have been working with Personal Trainer Amir Mosaddeghisar, with impressive results in strength, flexibility, balance and muscle tone. Amir has taken the time to understand my particular needs and limitations, and has created routines which address my particular requirements. Amir has instilled confidence and pushed me to do what he knows I need to do and can do, even when my instincts are that I cannot. Its been an enjoyable and highly rewarding experience.I recommend Amir and the NW facility which has a highly professional team of managers and trainers.
Horrible facilities - no cell phone/wifi in the basement. Staff is nice but uncoordinated. Have had horrible experiences with their billing department. Dont believe the rating; theyve bought Google Reviews.
My favorite gym! Great instructors!
Great club with awesome classes!
Ann H. has posted the same review for every Sport & Health location...kinda odd
I just love it.
They lied to me about the contract they had me sign and have stolen hundreds of dollars from me. Never go here.
They dont open on time.
