Best haircut in DC and at such a reasonable price. They’re quick and give great cuts. Highly recommend Mario
Good cut, good price. Gabriel is great!
Ive come here ever since Ive moved to the area and couldnt be happier with their service. All of the stylists and professionals and Ive never gotten a bad cut. This hair salon is a staple of the community and for good reason. Fantastic hair cuts for a very reasonable price, whats not to like?
The haircut was very cheap at $25, but it was still one of the best haircuts I’ve ever gotten. They were very thorough and friendly.
Good old school cash only barbershop. $25 for mens cut. Has been open like 60+ years and Diego is still there cutting hair. Great value.
Small historically significant salon with talented people running the place! Never had a bad cut going there. Fantastic!
So happy that I found this salon! The staff is great and I love my new style!
A block from Dupont Circle on a block of Q Street honrarily named Diego DAmbrosia Way, Diego’s Hair Salon offers good haircuts at an affordable price. Diego leads every day cutting hair alongside his team and always greets customers who walk in with a “buon giorno!” When I inquired, my stylist claimed all stylists were long ago vaccinated as front-line workers although the salon could be bigger and chairs more spaced out. You will get your hair cut in a distinctive salon with walls covered by prominent politicians and others who have also gotten their hair cut there. Before leaving, you will a voice say, “Arrivederci!” See you next time!Tips: call ahead to book an appointment to minimize waiting, and be sure to bring cash ($25 for men’s cut, plus tip).
First time here great hair cut and service. Clean place. They have excellent customer service
One of the best haircuts Ive ever had. Diego and his crew are the best! Check it out for yourself and experience the magic.
Diego has been a staple in DuPont circle for decades now! He has signed photographs from many heads of state that hes seen throughout the years at his shop. This is a fantastic place to get a solid haircut in DC for a really reasonable price! One Note: Diego is Cash Only!
Everyone is friendly and welcoming, and the haircut was fantastic. Definitely plan to come back whenever I need a haircut!
Diegos is the best place in the DC area to get a mens cut. Everyone is great, but I have Elizabeth cut my hair and she does a wonderful job.
Great place and reasonable price
They are professional and I liked the haircut they did for me.
Awesome! I tried many different barber shops after moving to DC and have had some terrible experiences. My luck changed today when I stopped by Diegos. It was a crowded Saturday, yet I only waited 5 minutes. They made sure they clearly understood the style I want before starting. They even gave me the choice of a haircut by scissors or electric cutter. Everyone, including the other customers, was really friendly. I especially liked the ambiance of the shop with the soft Latin music playing, the photos on the walls, and the multi-lingual conversations going on. And the price was very average and reasonable for DC. Ill definitely be returning to Diegos next time.
I am confident that Cecilia is one of the most talented barbers in the country, if not the world (at least for haircuts in this general price range). I have hair that barbers struggle with, very high standards, and have had my hair cut by many talented barbers in many major cities in the US, and no has done as consistently good a job as her (two year sample size). Not even close. She is very focused on executing the haircut and is amazingly efficient and accurate, like a top surgeon or something. Too bad I moved away.
Classic! Such nice staff
A local landmark. Come here for the cultural experience as much as the haircut.
Always amazed by the generosity and friendliness off Diego and his staff. My husband and I go every few months and its always a bright spot in our day
The best barber shop in town! Diegos is a classic DC institution.
Great haircuts, nice people, reasonable prices! Ask for Mario, he’s the best!
Always a wonderful experience to get your hair cut at Diegos. The man is truly a legend.
I came in here a week ago while on vacation in DC. I was looking to get my beard trimmed and my head shaved. I was hoping for something a little more affordable as other places nearby charged around $40-50 for the service (though in those cases they did straight razor shaves.)I came in here and the place was packed, but I was directed to an empty chair being serviced by a woman whose name I honestly dont recall. The head shave was fine though it was an electric razor shave. The beard trim was also fine, very basic but it was done well. The two stars are for three reasons.First, she didnt have a proper shaving brush to brush away hair from my neck, face and ears. She kept using her hairdryer and blowing it directly into my ears.Second, whatever aftershave she used made me break out on the back of my neck under my hairline.Third, the cost came out to $40. Everything I found via google said it would be $25. I realize she did my beard AND head, but usually since a head shave is a very quick buzz process, it is included in a beard trim or is just maybe a $5 additional charge.I would never come back.
Have been going here for 5 years. Always welcoming, great service and good haircuts.
Always a good cut. Gabriel always does a great job.
I always get a perfect cut the first time I go to a new salon.. this is the first and only place Ive ever been to thats given me a perfect cut every time, from every stylist. They all listen to what you want, everybodys lively, and its an all-around great place to get a cut! Oh, and Diego is fabulous!
I have been going here for years and they do a great job every time. Does anyone know how to get in touch with Diego or any staff members during this time? Even though the city is shut down I want to make sure I pay for my monthly hair cut.
This place was amazing! First time going in I had no idea what to do but they were very helpful and friendly. My first time going I got the FRESHEST hair cut on the planet good god.The atmosphere was amazing, mix of Italian and Spanish. So if you know either two of these languages your experience will be even better (; Wonderful music playing and everyone was having a blast cutting hair. Guy in charge basically knew everyone that walked in and it is just a friendly place.Honestly cant wait to go back again to get another haircut.Price wise, this place is great. Cash only, $20 for a haircut AND free shampoo service. You might as well get the shampoo service to get the most out of your money. It did look like a busy place, but fortunately I was seated as soon as I walked in. Ive read other reviews saying that lines/waits can be long. Totally believable and understandable.Overall, 11/10 will go again.
Being going here for over 10 years, even though Ive moved out of the city. Its a good, old fashioned Italian barber that reminds me of the plane I went growing up.
I got the best haircut in a very very very long time from Cecilia! I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she executed it beautifully. And it was on a Saturday, I was a walk-in, and it was reasonably priced. 100% recommend!!!
I live up the street from this place and dropped in from a cut when my regular place was closed. They were packed, but still made room for me within a couple of minutes. Diego held court near his chair while I had another barber cut mine: great trim in 15 minutes ran $25 (I think) and helpful friendly staff. Interesting photos of Diego’s career and clientele on the walls!
Walked in on Thursday at 5pm and got sat immediately which was great. My barber was Mario, awesome guy and did a great job. Also gave me some inside info about the neighborhood since I just moved here. Great experience and $25 bucks is nothing compared to what the going price is these days for a good cut and style. Will be going back.
Elizabeth did a great job. I was shocked how reasonable the price was given in the city. They took me as a walk in, no wait. Shop was full. Everyone was pleasant. Great experience. Thank you Elizabeth.
Googled hair salon by my hotel and this place popped up. Not only was I a walk in, they also attended to me very quickly. I got a haircut by Cecilia and if youre looking for a mid fade military style haircut, definitely go to her! That was the best haircut ive had in a very long time and was honestly surprised. Great place!
Walking into Diegos is like walking into Cheers: everyone knows each other by name, which seems seems intimidating -- but if you give them a chance, theyll welcome you as one of their own. Many stylists/barbers do a great job for simple mens haircuts (those with short hair), and I recommend you tell them exactly what you want and to bring in a picture. My haircut on Thursday scored me FIVE different compliments this week...that translates into five stars!
This is my go-to spot in town. It took a while to find a place that was reasonably priced and did a good job. After trying a few places, this is my go-to value barber. Usually you can walk in with little to no wait. Peak hours may take a little bit but they have some seating and there are places around. Both hairdressers did a good job, even better if you can speak a little Spanish. If you know what you want and are precise about it, theyll clean you up well. My only hesitation is they take some creative liberty and dont always do what I would have or cut more than expected. Also, you wont be as clean or get as trendy of a cut as a high end shop. For a classic mens cut this is the place to go.
I returned today after having a great experience Thur first time. Diego cut my hair today and did a remarkable job. I highly recommend for the haircut and overall experience.
The place has an international feel. There are often multiple languages spoken and European and Latin music.
I come to DC several times a year from the Pacific Northwest and am now a semi-regular here. Its a trip and Diego is a true character. I have gone to Betty three times now and everyone important in my life says its the best cut they have ever seen on me!
Love Diegos Hair Salon. They do a great job with short cuts, are always affordable, and it is an enjoyable experience every time.
I want to give this place 5 stars, but haircut quality is basically a coin toss depending on who cuts your hair. Have gotten some great cuts here, but also had a lady just flat take a razor and shave off all but a half inch of my hair after askin her to leave several inches on top. Next visit, a different lady decides to add a part after I asked her not to and left the hair on the right side of my head a full inch longer than the left. I dont even know how that happens. So, yeah, you may get a good haircut but youre rolling the dice.
Superb haircut, one of the best Ive ever had! this place is bright and clean and they are very experienced.
Business has been there for decades. Good barber services. Crowded on Saturdays so be advised. Basic mens haircut is $25. Helps to know Spanish, but not essential.
Great value at $20. Diego often has Italian music playing. Nice environment. It can get crowded on Saturdays when they dont take reservations but it moves fairly quickly. All the employees that have cut my hair have done a great job! Its a wonderful local institution of a place.
Will definitely make this my go-to place. Very reasonable prices for DC in general and certainly for Dupont Circle. Great service.
Best haircut Ive had in a long time. This is my new DC spot
Good cut, nice owner and friendly staff. Generally not a bad wait time, ~15-20 min. $25 for a trim and clean up. Can make appointments, by typically just means front of line when you arrive. They keep pretty busy
I try other barber shops, but I keep coming back here. Theyre simply the best, and if you want a professional cut from friendly (but pleasantly quiet, for you introverts) staff, look no further. Cash only. Classic barber shop feel. Show up when the doors open and they give you free espresso.
Five stars all the way: the service, character, quality of staff, friendliness, and price. It’s like coming home.
A great experience for a great price. Make sure you watch mustache trim. They snipped a little too much off my husbands lip
I recommend Diegos Hair Salon because the $25 price is reasonable, the hair dressers are competent and professional, and because Diego creates a warm and friendly vibe.
An icon of tonsorial art, and deservedly so. Great cutters. The owner Diego is a maestro. I have seen Diego make a customer look 10 years younger just by the quality of the cut. And I have my favorite cutter who is so good that my wife approves of my hair!
After trying a few in NW DC, Diegos is the only one I find reliable for around $20. Very nice staff, good haircuts, and I even got a free espresso when I went before work one day.The New Customers Not Welcome guy may have experienced other customers who came in later than him, but whose appointments were with specific barbers, which would explain them going right in. Ive always found Diego and his staff very accommodating and helpful.
Absolutely, without-a-doubt, the best place in D.C. to get your haircut. I am from Chicago, but have had internships in D.C. the last two summers. I tried two other salons before finding this one and now I only go to Diegos. They only accept cash or check, which I completely forgot about--yesterday all I had on me was a credit card. Diego told me not worry about it and to come back tomorrow. I tried to leave my name and cell phone number so he wouldnt think I was trying to skip on the payment. His response was, its $20 dollars, its not worth losing a friend over. I will see you tomorrow. To the best of my knowledge, I have never written a review on Yelp. This needed to be shared.Again, could not recommend a better place due to their customer service, quality of haircut, and value.-Chase Orlowski
The price is low. But youll spend more money correcting your haircut afterwards. The old lady in glasses was bad: she was constantly distracted and disorganized. As a result, I had to correct my haircut in a barbershop.
Cheap haircuts, although they can be a little inconsistent with quality. Its nice that you can call ahead to schedule an appointment, or you can try your luck on Saturday with it is walk ins only. I went here every month for about 5 years, but my person left, and I have not found anyone quite as good there currently. Still, with the convenience and price, it is still my go to place even if I keep an eye out for other options.
I recently had my second haircut at Diego’s, and by luck, I got Diego himself. Not only did I get an excellent haircut, the man made me feel special! With his shop decorated with photos of popes, presidents and supreme court justices, the man made me feel special. Thank you, Diego.
They get busy but probably the best haircut for the price in the area. Would recommend!
Nice and attentive service. Beard trimming could be more decent but Im satisfied with a result. Great prices.
Im a 20-something male and recently moved to DC for my first professional job. My hair started to get too long for the office so decided it was time to find my go-to place for getting my hair cut. Diegos Hair Salon came highly recommended by my co-workers and the reviews online were great so I decided to give it a try. I went on a Saturday when they have walk-ins only and put my name on the clipboard inside to the left of the entrance door. I waited may be 5 or 10 minutes so they move pretty quick in my mind. With how quickly they move, I was worried that I wouldnt get proper attention and Id hate my haircut. However, my stylist (Osmara) gave me very close individualized attention and did a fantastic job. The staff seem nice and the atmosphere is very casual. Diego himself cuts hair among his employees too which made me feel he really cares about his business. Altogether, if you want an excellent haircut for $20 then I couldnt recommend this place more.
Been getting my hair cut here for 15 years. Excellent service. Reasonably priced. Walk-ins only (no appointments) on Saturdays.
DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU HAVE CURLY HAIR.They butchered my hair and had no idea how to cut it. In addition, Diego (the owner) who cut my hair did not listen to what I wanted at all and just did whatever he wanted even though I was extremely explicit. You have been warned. Although if you have straight hair like many of the men in there you will be fine I think.
Great haircut, felt safe
Nice feature that you can call ahead for a slot around the time one wants and/or with the hair stylist one likes. Plus if they do not have anymore appointment slots they hold one open for walk-ins. I have had various different barbers/hair stylists at this shop and they have all done a good job cutting and styling my hair.
Amazing, fun, and effficient staff. Great cut for a great price. Had the honor of getting my cut last time by the main man himself. What a charmer.
I had one guy who hacked away at my hair with no regard for style or looks and that was probably the worst cut Ive received here. Full disclosure, it was the end of the day on Friday and he was itching to get out of there, and it was a younger guy.But I still recommend the place because they have a solid staff and a great atmosphere. The other 4 or 5 times Ive gone there I have really appreciated the haircut I received. For a quick cut in DC without all the frills or bullshit that goes into a $80 haircut, you cant beat Diegos.
One of the best priced hair cuts in DC by a legendary staff. There are plenty of barbers there, so weight is usually never less than 20 minutes as a walk in. The many pictures of famous customers on the wall show this place is the real deal.
Been getting my hair cut here for 5 years now. Great price for the area, quality service and cuts. Maybe not the coolest place around, but you start to feel like part of the family.
The quality of the hairdressers vary a lot from one to the other. Generally I have had some very decent haircuts here. They do have a bit of a problem doing a decent come-over, with the come-over line being easy to find, but the result looks good more often than not. Some of the hairdressers have a bit of a hard time communicating in english, but they do try, and it works out for the better more often than not.
Great hair cuts for amazing prices. Dupont Circle neighborhood staple. Don’t catch Diego in a bad mood though. He can get grumpy.
New people are welcomed! Regular customers are welcomed! Great price, good music, morning espresso, friendly staff and conveniently located. On top of that, a great display of pictures all over the walls of VIPs and such.
Best place to cut straight hair Ive found in DC. Diego the owner on site cutting along with 10 other barbers. Saturday walk-in only. Otherwise appointments with walk-ins accommodated first come first serve.
Paid $35 for a stellar haircut! I have a severe cowlick and Saida (Sida? Syda?) handled it perfectly. I will absolutely be going back!
What a cool place! Unexpected Latin fun in the heart of Dupont. I work nearby and was looking for a quick haircut in between meetings. Very fast (I called only 15 mins ahead) and got what is a very affordable and pretty decent haircut. Its not the salon experience but has a certain Latin charm!
Ive been going to Diegos since I moved to Dupont. I can always walk in for a haircut after work. Ive never had a problem getting into a chair. Great value for a $25 haircut. The store has a great story too.
Diegos is a classic DC establishment that has kept its prices affordable after so many years. Not the fanciest haircut in town, but it gets the job done.
Great haircut and reasonable prices. Has that old-school feeling. I use Mario and he gives a great cut and is very detail-oriented. Best haircut in DC
SO nice and they do everything I want
Quick service and simple haircut. The staff is welcoming. Only cash is accepted, dont forget to bring some.
I called to make an appointment and requested a stylist for a mens haircut. When I came there the salon was pretty full with only one free seat. My stylist spoke almost no english so it was very difficult to tell her what I wanted. She did not really seem to have a lot of experience either and proceeded to cut my hair rather aimlessly. The gap between my hairline and ears ended up being different sizes and much too big on one size. Would not go again and would not recommend this salon, at least for new customers. Ive had way better haircuts for less money.
Great cuts. They treat you well here. Cash only. They should turn on the AC though. It can get hot.
Stellar experience. The ambiance of this place is something to behold. The walls are filled with signed headshot photos from clients (military, lawyer types). The owner is Italian and the workers are All Peruvian. 🤴🏻
There arent many cheap authentic hair places left in the city. Many have opened and charge $60+ for a mens haircut, while the only other option is Hair Cuttery. Instead, take your money and go to Diegos. An old school barber shop that is cash only and accepts walk ins (although can be a long wait on weekends/lunch hours). I think Tony is the best there, however everyone I know who goes there seems happy with their barber also. $20 for a shampoo and cut.
Get a great haircut for only $25. Saturday is super busy, but if you go during the week you can be in and out in under 30 minutes
When I first moved from Arlington to dc. I wanted to see if there was a place I could replace willys and found Diegos. It was super busy and the lady I got said she doesnt know how to cut Asian hair. Which is a skill I do have to admit. But she goes and butchers my hair in which I have to go back to my old barbers to get fixed. I havent been back since. Street parking available.
Diego and crew are the best around. I swear that every time I go to get my hair cut it is the best haircut of my life. I am so happy with Diego and Yole as hair stylists. They are the best!
EXCELLENT.I am Italian and have had such a hard time cutting my hair in DC. But then I found out about Diego and it was true blessing - the way they cut hair is just as they would do it back in Italy and price is super honest too.Thank you!
Great old school barber who has been around in Dupont Circle for decades. Diego will always welcome you and you can really sense the friendly atmosphere as soon as you walk in. Haircuts also have always been great :)
Wonderful atmosphere, well - organized, affordable plus they gave me a haircut that got the ladies asking me to dance with them at the club and even inviting me over to their place to hang out, Im not lying to you. Im still trying to figure out whether its something in the clippers or its just the haircut, cause its definitely not just because of me.
Great place for a haircut! Reasonable prices, friendly staff, and great haircuts.
Amazing prices for such good barbers. Very nice Italian atmosphere, with Diego (owner) and Antonio (barber) leading the scene. The cuts are very good.
Ive been going to Diegos for four years. Ive gotten all types of haircuts, from short buzzes to long scissor cuts. Osmara can do them all! Highly recommend her and Diegos team.
I have lived in DC for 2 years and tried many different barbershops in the Foggy Bottom/Dupont area. I finally got it right with Diegos. Edis was wonderful. Will be a repeat customer.
I got only one good haircut out of ten tries. It is cheap and you get what you pay for!
Wash and a fantastic cut with the barber asking for your opinion and suggestions at every step. At 25 bucks its a complete steal, highly recommend it!
First time going on a Monday, no appt, got into a chair right away (wasnt expecting fast service), really friendly service.
