When I see “barber and stylist” I expected a stylist over someone who is able to cut hair. I went in hoping for a consultation and someone eager to express their creativity with my hair after not having had it cut in several months. This is not the place for that. If you’re looking for an inexpensive quick cut go to Diego’s and save yourself a few dollars.EDIT: my bad for not reading the reviews before booking.

My husband and son have been going to Capitol Barber for the past 15 years. The service is exceptional! They always get great haircuts and the people are so warm and welcoming. They remember our kids names and make us feel like family. Again - the haircuts and other services are great! Such a gem on Capitol Hill!

I love these folks. Ive been going here for about 15 years, ever since my old barber on 8th Street closed. Great value, always a great cut, and its really fun to chat with the owners and their employees. Dont be fooled by the place that opened up next to them during the pandemic and copied their sign, which is super bad mojo in my opinion. Capitol Barber and Stylist is the best deal on the Hill, and they are great for kids as well.

I’ve been coming to this family-run neighborhood barber shop for 10+ years. All of the barbers do an excellent job at a reasonable price. I highly recommend them. They handle all kinds of hair and are great with kids. They are also extremely kind and generous and have been a great asset for the Capitol Hill community.

I’ve been coming to this barber ever since I moved to Washington nearly 6 years ago. The cut is always exactly what I’m looking for, the stylists are friendly and know what they’re doing. You’ll be in and out in a reasonable time, for a reasonable price, and be more than happy with your cut. Easily the first place I recommend to anyone who is looking for a barber

Among the worst haircuts I’ve ever gotten. I just went to get my long-ish hair cleaned up a bit and it was a total hack job. The goal was to keep my hair long and just even it out, but the barber gave me a bowl cut that looks even less in line than before. When I asked what she was doing, she kept saying “layer” which was a term I didn’t know (Googled it later). She completely ruined my hair by doing that, and I ended up with an embarrassing haircut that looked like a 1920s bob created while drunk. All for $27, so not cheap to have this hack job.

I have been living in DC for over 6 months now, when I would go home to jersey I would just get my hair cut there. However, it’s time that I took the plunge to get my hair cut here in DC. My buddy kevin was like go to this place right by the capital ( huge fan of walking around this area ) I called them at 5:45 asking what time they are there until and this man said just get here. The atmosphere in this barbershop 10/10. My haircut 10/10! So good that when I was walking back home someone said nice haircut. I definitely will make this my only barbershop for now on. Sorry New Jersey my heart has moved on

Asked for a low-skin fade and to clean up the top. She did an okay job on the fade, but barely cut the top at all. When she seemed done I asked her to thin it out or clean it up and she ran the scissors through randomly for 10 seconds and sent me on my way in a hurry. I’m gonna have to get it cleaned up somewhere else again if I want it to grow properly and heathy. I’ve had much better haircuts for cheaper, and this should be called a salon, not a barber. However, If you had less troublesome hair, or a simpler cut you would be fine here.

Asian people that serve a diverse clientele but actually can cut ethnic hair. It wasnt the best fade that Ive ever had but it definitely was not the worst. The barbers will follow your instructions to a T. However, the barbers could stand to work on their blending skills. Once again, not that they cant blend its just that the transition could be a little bit smoother. So, if you need to get your wig split and cant make it to your usual Barber, they will definitely take care of you. The cut will be adequate, at the least; the service will be expedient; but the price is not cheap.

Did some research to find a good barber in the DC area and saw that this one was very well rated and affordable. I’ve been growing my hair longer for a couple months and just wanted to clean it up so I could keep growing it out. I told this to the barber and showed where I wanted my hair shorter and she told me “leave the top, 6 on the sides, easy cut” so I was looking forward to a good haircut. After spending a questionably long time around the ears, she showed me a little bit of hair that she was going to trim off the top, which I was cool with even though I was planning on leaving it how it was. Left the barber shop with almost all of my hair cut off, way more than she showed me she was going to cut. The haircut is ok but way too expensive for getting something completely different than I asked for.

Mens haircut will cost you $25 but its a good place that moves pretty quickly. In order to get in you have to dial 18 on the main door and they will buzz you in from there. The buzzer itself has kinda grown on me since going there. Its made it kinda quirky and quaint. Theres signs on the door that explain it but its a bit odd. 4 stars because the price.

The first couple times I went to Capitol Barber, I left happy, and felt I paid a fair price. I got a haircut and beard trim for $21. The price board lists hair cuts as $20, and beard trims as $10, but I figured that was if you do one or the other. Charging the full amount for both wouldnt make much sense. Then, the last few times theyve started charging me $30 for the haircut and beard trim. The first time I protested and lowered the price to $25. I assumed it was just that that person cutting my hair didnt know they were supposed to drop the price for both together. So I went back again, and again I was charged $30. This time I didnt bother protesting. I just paid it and left, knowing that I wouldnt be returning.Higher prices are to be expected in DC, but theres really no reason a beard trim should cost half of what a hair cut costs if theyre done together.

The Asians that run this shop are friendly and go by the book. I liked my haircut and my bosses liked it more! Shamelessly sloppy haircut! Ive gone there a couple of times and its been on the border of acceptable haircut for $25, but today was the worst haircut Ive ever gotten and I have to get a haircut every week to look clean for work. It went from a medium fade with light trim on top to a 1980s B-reel action movie high and tight with an inch off the top to match sides because he kept messing it up. Avoid this place if you want a clean short-haired look. Communication also difficult in english.

Take the other warnings below to heart, this place is to be avoided. Had I known the quality of the haircut I was going to get, I would have saved the $23 (plus some tip) and butchered my own hair. I asked for a standard comb-over and what I got was sadly nothing I can describe. Needless to say, I took clippers to my own hair after to clean up the mess. Again, steer very clear of this place if a proper haircut is what youre searching for.

I dont know much about how I want my hair cut. When asked, I usually respond that I want a scissor cut, and specify the number of inches I want removed - adjusted downward because hair stylists will always take off more than that (why do all stylists do this to me? does the profession unanimously disagree with me about how much hair I should be removing?).If I get any more sophisticated questions, my eyes tend to glaze over.Given my ignorance/simplicity, these guys were great. They did an exceptionally good job of evening it all out, blending the thingy-bits with the doo-hickies, and generally leaving my head looking neat and trim. And in DC, $20 seems like a decent deal.Of course, they took off 1.5 inches, when I asked them to take off 0.5 inches... but thats actually what I wanted! (Take that, stylist conspiracy!)Long story short: Ill be coming back. If you have more sophisticated needs, go elsewhere and (probably) pay more.

I asked for a simple haircut (4 on top, 3 on the sides). It is unbelievable how someone could mess up a haircut like that. The person who was cutting my hair first used a really old clipper that was literally pulling my hair, when I complained he took a new clipper that was also in a really bad shape and made my hair look waivy. The end result was an absolutely terrible haircut so I ended up going to the place next door to fix the mess. I paid more than 50 bucks in total... I will never go back to this place!

I wish I had read the reviews before coming here. It was a convienant location to some business I had in DC. I too had a simple military haircut. My god, how can you screw up a crew cut? I went when there were 2 guys and 2 ladies on a weekday. The ladies haircuts seemed to be better. It was not busy but service was very slow. I got a guy, his accent was thick and he didnt know any military haircuts. I had to explain, in great detail, what I wanted and he still messed it up. I had my bunk mate fix it. Im used to a fast and perfect $10 haircut. I dont think any of them are proffesionally trained. I will stick with the barber near the base from now on.
