Took my first visit to Bishops today. Tishawn was fantastic. Pointed out some skin issues on my scalp and made recommendations. Took my flock of seagulls hair style that I grew over the pandemic and brought back the short fade look.She was very thorough. Very professional and communicative. Provided me with some shampoo, conditioner, and product that hopefully will help with my skin.Just an enjoyable experience. Thank you. Highly recommend anyone in Navy Yard checking the place out. I went in for a haircut for the first time since quarantine and I am so highly disappointed. I spent $84 on services from Monique Morssion and though she was kind - the haircut is atrocious. It looks as if she basically forgot about the back of my hair, and didn’t understand what I was asking for. My haircut looks absolutely nothing like the reference photos I showed multiple times. During my experience she struggled with giving me the haircut in photo I wanted, to which I asked if it just wasn’t possible or if she wanted to simply leave it as is, but she would just keep going and not say anything in response. I trusted she knew better than I did because 1) I’m no professional and I’ve been leaving my hair a mess for the last year and half so I figured it was a gnarly mess - but due to that I am left to spend MORE money and cut of MORE hair than I ever wanted to.

I had a fantastic first experience at Bishops! The receptionist was so helpful in referring me to a stylist when I 1st called, and I scheduled an appointment with Candace who went above and beyond! She had great ideas for how to highlight and brighten up my dark curly brown hair for summer and I absolutely love how it turned out! The salon has great energy and super talented stylists and I look forward to being a frequent customer!

I cant say enough great things about Bishops. They are clean, professional, and welcoming. Derek is THE MAN! I go to him every two weeks, and Im never disappointed. This is the place to go for a haircut! I have recommended them to many of my friends who are now customers. Keep up the great work.

UPDATE - The owner called me up after this review and confirmed that it was an error on their part to assign a new joiner for my cut. He has offered a full refund and a fix-up with their more experienced stylists - which is very nice of them.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I have been to Bishops multiple times - infact, my first few experiences were so good that I decided to stick with them even after I moved 30 mins away. However, unfortunately, my last experience was terrible!It was a training appointment for someone who had never cut hair before and I wasnt even informed or asked if Im comfortable with an appointment with a trainee and its their first time. Shouldnt they be practicing on fake wigs or something before doing a live customer? They didnt even know how to hold the clippers right and were a little rough in handling the hair.The cut was unequal, it was lopsided and wasnt even cut in a straight line. They didnt even cover me up properly during the appointment since they didnt know how to put the cape on and my shirt was covered in hair after.And on top of that I was charged a full $45 - they didnt even offer a lower rate for a training appointment. I dont think Im ever going back again.

Usually they are fantastic and did a solid cut the past three times Ive been. However, my last haircut was with Monique, and it did not come out well. I didnt notice until showering later. It seemed unfinished and uneven. Sadly I dont think I feel confident returning again now.

I went into Bishops for a cut after moving all weekend and right before a new job. The cut was amazing, the shampoo and scalp massage was incredibly relaxing and my stylist, Jenise, could not have been more polite and professional. 10/10 recommend.

I think its one of the better prices you can find in DC, particularly in the Navy Yard area.

I had such a great experience with Candace! I was confused by the online booking setup with everything being a la carte, but everyone was so accommodating and kind and let me add shampoo + blow dry to my cut. Candance listened to what I wanted and executed it perfectly. She cut about 6 inches off my hair and styled it beautifully. I feel like I lost 10 pounds with this haircut!

I’ve had a great experience with Bishops, both cut (Tishaun) and color (Candace). My stylists really listened to what I wanted and focused on doing a good job. This is not the kind of salon where your stylist will have multiple clients simultaneously... they are focused on you! They’re also friendly and helpful, explaining the different products they use, etc. I highly recommend!

Within the past month, I got my hair cut and colored. I always felt that I was never able to pull off blonde hair or a balayage, and Jade made me feel so taken care of. She is an absolute perfectionist and won’t let you leave until she feels you’re at 100%. I am VERY VERY HAPPY with her art! She is extremely intelligent and knowledgeable of her craft. 10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Will be returning in the future! Refuse to go anywhere else for my hair needs, this is the spot to go! 💕

This review is just for Frederick, not the salon. He did a great job on my color but butchered my bangs. I asked to have them thinned out and trimmed a little as they were thick and blunt. Rather than going slow and taking a less is more approach, he thinned my bangs by chopping off half of my hair but only half way down my forehead leaving a very visible shadow across my forehead, basically reverse layers on my face. It was not a flattering cut and left me visibly (and vocally) unhappy. Fredericks reaction was at least your hair grows fast. He did ask what he could do to make me feel better but what can you do? Im not about to have a breakdown in a salon. He was very combative with my husband who called because I was too busy sobbing in the bathroom to speak. He told him I cant grow her hair back and I guess we had a miscommunication. While I appreciate the discount and refund I received, Im still appalled by this entire interaction. Frederick needs to work on his customer service skills, his listening skills, and perhaps refine his skills when it comes to a womans bangs. I had another Navy Yard stylist attempt to clean up my bangs but short of clip in extensions, Im stuck feeling very self conscious. I did not intend to rock the microbangs at my new job next week.Ive been going to Bishops since they opened. Ive always had a great time and have always left feeling amazing until today. No one should leave a salon crying.

Been to Bishops three times since moving to the Navy Yard area in January. Initially I was just looking for a salon that wasnt charging an arm and a leg, but the services have been great, to boot. Everyone has been very kind and friendly, and COVID policies are on point - I never feel unsafe in there. I come out feeling fresh and have loved my haircut every single time.

Really great experience getting my hair cut at Bishops. I have super thick, frizzy hair that doesn’t usually work well with short haircuts. However, due to the pandemic, I was really just interested in taking a lot of length off to make it easier to manage. My stylist (Jade) listened to my vague instructions to just cut it short and turned it into an awesome haircut that really accentuates my natural waves. She made a serious effort to figure out what would work best for me and made a lot of helpful suggestions. Between the great haircut, the friendly and professional environment, and the safe pandemic protocols, I will definitely come back again!

I finally decided to color my hair after 30+ years and chose to go to Bishops Navy Yard for a color consultation, during which Jenise listened to what I had in mind, talked me through what the process would entail, and told me approximately how long it would take and how much it would cost. I scheduled an appointment with her for about a week later and I now have the most beautiful subtle hints of blues and purples in my hair - a perfect intro to the world of colored hair. Jenise was wonderfully attentive and patient the whole time, and Tylette and Frederick were also super friendly. There’s a chill but professional and safe vibe, and I’d definitely recommend them!

Jenise Wamble was extremely unprofessional in terms of customer service. No manners at all. Very disappointed this time! I had another stylist there before but she is gone.Jenise didnt ask if the water was ok during the shampoo time and washed my hair with cold water. I asked if she would suggest any style as a professional. After I told her what I was thinking of, she told me it is fine. The haircut was fine, since it was a simple straight cut. I am also a hairstylist, certified in Europe, but I never say that so I can give the stylist their room for creativity and have a nice treatment for myself, but I have a very clear idea of how easy a cut really is.No conversation at all with me but she was talkative with the staff. She styled my hair fast and straight (my hair is straight) and one side curled a little bit but she thought its fine. Negligence!My boyfriend gets me gift cards for the place. I used one to pay ($86) and gave her $20 tip (cash). She didnt even say have a good day or smile. She went into the staff/supplies room as soon as I paid. I was still at the counter by myself. No manners at all.I still have gift cards for Bishop at Navy Yard but she made me not want to come back. Unfortunately, I found out from the web that she is the assistant manager there. What a shame!

Great cut and a good time! My first cut back from our time of stay-at-home here in DC. The shop had great procedures to ensure that everyone involved was safe. I was asked to wash my hands after I showed up and had my temperature checked. Both Ty and I wore a mask through the entire cut, and she did a great job working around it! The cut looks great and I feel like it was well worth the extra safety procautions.

Finding a new barber is tough--finding an easy way to make an appointment with a new barber is even tougher. Discovered Bishops was open near my office via a Google search. Their website was easy to use and allowed me to make an appointment that worked with my schedule. Frederick provided excellent service, delivering a top-notch haircut and beard trim for a very reasonable price. Highly recommend giving the shop a try--I will definitely be going back.

I get a men’s short cut and can only say that if you’ve been looking for a very high quality, consistent cut with a guy that will help you figure out what you need, you can find it with Frederick.

Took my 8 yr. old in after school today as a walk-in we live in the neighborhood. Impressive upon entering & greeted with smiles, welcomes & hellos. Great customer service.! A clean & sleek shop. They also offer beverage refreshments. I had a fresh cup of hot tea. YUM! Here’s the best & my favorite part JADE sent my kid out with a BIG SMILE. Clean Cut & Line Up & his new favorite part was the shampoo & conditioner wash. He ALWAYS hated that...lol! & never had that experience at his old regular barber. His exact words upon leaving were Mom that was an amazing experience, I like to get that again next time. Appointment already made before leaving. We are truly satisfied with our service!!!!!!

Mikaela has knocked it out of the park, yet again. I went to her the first time a few months ago to go from my normal dark brown (very curly) to a nice red tone, and it turned out beautifully. Today I came in wanting something wild, and she obliged with a gorgeous dark blue root fading into dark blues and greens. Whether you want just a pop of colour, or a brand new look, look no farther than this little shop in Navy Yard! (Plus, if youre an adult, you can have a nice alcoholic beverage while you wait!)

The shop follows social distancing measures. There is a temperature check, hand washing and significant space between seats. I had an excellent experience with Jenise. Loved the haircut!
