Meranda, my leasing agent, was incredibly helpful during my application and move in, as was the rest of the staff. They are always available for anything you might need! The building is clean and the units are updated and well kept. Moving into The Berkshire has been a great experience!
My experience at the Berkshire had been great so far. The leasing office did a great job for finding me the best apartment. Also, super great opportunity to rent for a short period of time like 6 or 9 months. A lot of useful facilities at the building and I definitely feel safe while leaving here. Kester was a great help with this process.
Thank you so much Kester, Lizbeth and the rest of the team for helping me move in the Berkshire! You all have been very helpful I couldn’t have asked for any more. I absolutely love my apartment, all the a amenities, views, the location! This location works best for me. It’s very comfortable, my neighbors are great! Thanks again for everything, I’m looking forward to sticking around
Lived here for two years and the Berkshire honestly made it so easy to rent my first real apartment while in grad school. The staff was always super pleasant to deal with and were always willing to help me out when I had trouble. When I finally had to move, the assistant community manager Alma Campos played a huge role in answering all of my questions, helping me get all of the necessary paperwork in order, and in general eased my worries about making a seamless transition to my new housing. The Berkshire staff are always patient and accommodating and I think it is a great place for first-time renters!
Had a great experience with the Berkshire Team ! I have been living here since the past few months and everyone is very kind and welcoming ! Especially, Kester, the leasing manager is extremely helpful and will be there for anything you need!
Relatively easy process to start process of getting g apartment. I moved apartments and they were able to get me the lease and space that was easy and convo. Kester was great and helpful
The Berkshire is the best place where any AU student can live. The campus is just on the doorstep.Perfect and wonderful leasing team Alma & Kester .They helped me to move in, and treated me like family.
I moved in April and everything has been great so far. The staff is incredibly nice and helpful. Kester and Chandler in the leasing office were the ones to assist me in finding the right apartment for me and my dog, and getting me set up on move-in day. Steven, Jameer, and all others at the front desk are friendly and I appreciate that they’ve taken the time to recognize me and other residents. All staff has been responsive to any questions I have had. When I moved in, my apartment itself was clean and the bathroom had been renovated. The convenience store on the lower level is stocked with a little bit of everything which has come in handy when I’ve forgotten to buy something at the grocery store. The laundry room is bright and has enough laundry machines that I have yet to have trouble doing my laundry at the time I choose. Still very happy with my choice and so is my pup!
Shoutout to Kester for helping with the move-in process! He made it super smooth and easy. Also shoutout to Stephen, the concierge, for always answering all of our questions!!
Very good place for affordable price. The building is on a little bit older side, but maintenance staff is doing their best to keep up.I have always received an excellent service from Adil (Adi) and Mr. Ahmad.Adi arranged my window to be fixed in no time and he painted one part of the kitchen wall the same day I requested it.
Love it. Our leasing manager, Kester, was incredibly helpful! Great environment. Move in process was smooth and amazing!
I think it is fair to right a review now since it’s been over 6 months I live in this building. Thanks to Kester for helping me find a place that I truly comfortable in. The staff is nice and helpful. The prices are affordable. I will definitely recommend this place to someone.
I am not sure how on earth she handles all the different wings in this building so fast but my goodness we appreciate it. The staff at Berkshire is great but Lizbeth B. gives exemplary service. My dishwasher went out of commission and they promised a quick turnaround on the repairs. On the day of, the part was not on site nor available. Whatever they worked out, I came home the next day to an operating machine. Quick turnaround and always with a smile! Thanks Liz!
Kester did a great job checking me in even during his busy touring schedule. Beautiful room!
Do yourself a favor and do not live here. I have seen a mouse on three occasions in my apartment. The second time I saw one, I called the front desk and maintenance laid down traps and the traps caught nothing but an insane amount of roaches. Not to mention my roommate and I keep our apartment fairly clean.
Im proud to call The Berkshire home for the last 40 years. Alma’s assistance since she has joined the Management Team has been invaluable. Alma always has a smile on her face and her can-do attitude is refreshing. She has taken the lead on combating the pest control (roaches) issues for the entire building. Us long-term residents really appreciate all of her efforts. Im looking forward to see the new lobby renovations. Great addition to The Berkshire Team!
Kester was a great help and the service is always great! The amenities are clean and easily accessible! Furthermore, the pest problem appears to have been dealt with.
Great location. Amazing maintenance. Especially John. Effective. Front Desk welcoming. Really bad new general manager. Not Gerald . After him. Doesnt have a social connection with the tenants. Authoritarian. Left mainly because of him. Spent much money at Berkshire. Didnt take care of me at at the end charged me petty fees on the way out meanwhile I spent between 80 to 100 grand there. Was not treated right.
Kester Sanchez was absolutely the BEST! He was very professional, knowledgeable, and customer service oriented.
Terrible environment. Looks like a really nice place…it’s not. American University students take my advice and room anywhere else but here. The place is infested with roaches, the amenities are not open, or worth living here. There’s police, ambulance and fire trucks here everyday disrupting any kind of peace you want, . They put my in a room on the first floor right next to the temporary lobby.. so I’m up at 7 am to employees yelling down the hall to each other, construction noises, and even tenants fighting in the hallways. STAY AWAY. It’s too much money for the garbage environment you’ll be FORCED to live in. Please take my advice. I regret every minute I’ve spent here and every penny I’ve payed in rent.
I am currently 9 months into a 12 month lease and plan to move out when it expires. The location is great for AU students (me) as well as for people who are new to cities and want to live in a more laid-back area (also me). It is a bit far away from a metro stop but there is a bus stop right out front. There is a store in the building which is super convenient. One word of caution: IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING MOVING HERE, INSIST YOU DO NOT LIVE ON THE EAST SIDE ABOVE THE FIRST LEVEL. These areas are only assessable by one single elevator. They used to be accessible by two, but one has been broken since last July and every time I ask a staff member about the status, they inform me that they are unable to fix it. Residents share this elevator with building staff and due to COVID restrictions only one resident is allowed on at a time. Therefore, wait times are very, very, very long for the elevator. If you are moving in and need to being furniture up the elevator, it will take an eternity.UPDATE 3/31: I have recently had my first pest control emergency and I can now confirm some of the negative reviews found here. I have now left four messages about a pest control problem over the last few weeks. Each time, the building staff confirms to me that I will shortly receive a call to schedule pest control. I have yet to receive a call. P.S., the elevator is still broken.
Love living here at the Berkshire it’s very close to everything, the maintenance have been great and the leasing and management have been very help full and thanks to Kester for a his great efforts making sure I’m happy here
Berkshires has a good location for students. Apartments are clean with good maintenance service.
Kester was really helpful from the very beginning. He helped me through the process of renting one bedroom at the berkshire, DC, and my experience during this process was really easy because of this guy. I ended up renting the apartment, after scheduling a tour with kester. He showed me around in the building, which is very nice and clean.
Here is a great place to live. Have a nice gym, and store. It is convenient to my university and supermarket.
Liz is Awesome. This morning I had a business emergency and needed to have legal docs printed asap. Liz went out of her way to not only faciltate but took it upon herself to make sure it was done quickly and handled it herself. I was here to visit my son, I am so comfortable knowing people like Liz are here at the Berkshire looking out for the residents and their guests. I hope the people that run the Gables understand how important Liz is to their business. Thank You
This is my sons first apartment. The staff at the Berkshire was wonderful. We were able to schedule a walk through and view several great apartments. They showed us all the options that were open to us and were not pushy at all. Kester was wonderful and made the process a breeze. On move in day the apartment was ready to go and we were welcomed to the building by Jamire. He had a smile on his face and was able to assist us with anything we needed. All in all a wonderful experience
Adil is one of a team of excellent building mechanics. I had an emergency plumbing problem handled within 20 minutes the other day, and thats not the first time building mechanics have impressed me. They are consistently excellent.
The move-in experience was very easy thanks to the help of Kester!
Recently moved into The Berkshire. The move in process was super easy, the manager Kester was amazing, very helpful and he made my experience worthwhile being this is my first apartment in DC.
I have resided at Berkshire for a year...my experiences with all around services have been of great excellence especially considering covud restrictions. Every service of leasing office and maintenance are very impressive..Ms Lizbeth Bourgerie has engaged in all my needs in a very prompt and concerned manner, which was greatly appreciated ❤❤
I’ve had to move around a lot due to family reasons and i’ve never lived in such a great place. The landlord was quite pleasant and always helpful with whatever i needed. I 100% recommend staying here!
I have lived at The Berkshire for over 9 years. I relocated from a studio unit to a one bedroom unit almost 7 years ago. I have reached out to management several times to request provision of basic painting and replacement of my carpet which was not properly installed. . The new manager did an inspection and insisted that all was well in my unit. The closet doors keep coming off the track but on their website there are units with nice closet doors with mirrors, therefore it can be replace. I have a 6 year old son. I honestly feel like the property is not family friendly. I am asking for basic services to ensure the place is healthy. After 5 years most carpet lifetime are done md require shampoo or replacement. This is only one of my most recent request. I have dealt with roaches and mice problem in the past. My unit is affordable due to transfer lease. I feel like management makes it harder and so frustrating so one can move out and they can rent the unit for market price. I paid to get the unit painted because it was important for me and my son to live in a clean and healthy unit. The carpet needs attention therefore I’ll be seeking legal advice due to several request. In addition the application used for making payments is inaccurate and keeps reflecting late fee waived even when you pay your rent on time. I am concern about my sons health as a result of the carpet condition and the health problems it can attract. I give 5 stars only the maintenance staff and front desk, leasing and management are out of touch with the reality of being a long term tenant at The Berkshire.
This 5/5 is for John the serviceman. I honestly don’t rly like the berks but John is truly a great man. He’s hardworking, kind, and patient. I hope he gets a raise bc he truly deserves it.
I have been here for almost two years and I love it! The attention to detail during COVID-19 has been wonderful with all the staff making the area safe to live in. Jose, the manager, has been great, especially with ensuring proper COVID management in the fitness center. Masks are strictly enforced as well as social distancing measures, and there are plenty of wipes to keep all of the equipment and surfaces clean. I love that management has done everything they can to help us stay healthy and active during these times. Also, thank you to Jamire, Stephen, and Vickie who work the front desk as concierges and Liz and the team in the leasing office. They are always so kind and helpful, and they always welcome you into the building and wish you a good day, and its those small acts that really brighten your day!
Friendly and helpful staff, good and well taken care of amenities, and comfortable apartments sums up my experience with The Berkshire. Kester and Liz in the leasing office made moving in and securing a lease very easy as there were always there to help and ensure you had every thing you need to move in. Jamir and Steve at the front door are always there to say hello and make sure your packages get delivered safely. And PT in the package room is very helpful and friendly. The units are comfortable, clean, and well equipped with things to make you feel at home. The building is proximal to American University as well as Tenelytown making it a very convenient spot to be a college student in.
Amazing Amenities and all utilities are included. Outside parking is free and plentiful. Lizbeth Bourgerie from the Leasing Office treats you like you are a part of the family. Great maintenance staff too that responds and fixes any issue within 24 hours. If you have any bugs the complex will call pest control immediately for you. Prime location that allows to walk or drive to popular spots with in a few minutes. Close to shopping, restaurants, and American University. Superb health and safety measures during the Covid-19 pandemic.
As a resident I have experience alot of bad promblems. I have also experienced unwanted company in my home. I also have been public violated by management and maintenance. I have also been walked in on by maintenance more than once. Management have made me feel like i don’t belong do to the complexion of my skin also the way I raise my children. The Berkshire is not for people or color and it is also not for people that has a house of 2 children or more.
I have had a wonderful virtual leasing experience with their Leasing Professionals Lizbeth Bourgerie. She was extremely kind and helpful with my questions during the whole leasing process. Really appreciate of their efforts to welcome new comers, and patience to communicate every detail. Personally recommend to credit on their service. ;D
Really appreciated Lizbeth Bourgeries support throughout the leasing process! For a first time renter such as myself, her help and counsel were invaluable. She was patient with the many questions I had and answered them all perfectly.
It is only my second night in the apartment but I can not be more happier to call The Berkshire my new home. Everyone who lives and works here is extremely nice and helpful. I am so grateful to Lizbeth Bourgerie for making the move in process so easy. Even during Coronavirus, Lizbeth was extremely helpful in making all request possible and answering all of my many questions online. Thanks again!
Amazing place! Couldn’t recommend a better apartment building to move into if you’re looking to save but not cut out on quality. The Berkshire is a vintage building with a modern twist. Pros include renovated apartments, a small convenience store on site, a community center, gym, amenities included, free parking, and a great location. The leasing staff are great. Lizbeth Bourgerie was kind, resourceful, communicative, willing to help, and overall a true joy. She sealed the deal with her quick replies and easy going nature!Totally recommend the Berkshire!
Lizbeth in the leasing office was incredibly helpful. She spent a lot of time answering our questions and helping us find the best arrangement. Thank you!
Love living here at Berkshire apartments very nice neighborhood. Clean well kept and maintained very well
Clean, Friendly staff, Common Areas, a market with alcohol, Free parking, Business center, Great location. The best place so far since I have been renting. I want to also highlight, how Lizbeth displays excellent customer service. She never hesistates on helping with any question I may have. Definitely best Leasing officer ever!
Some really great people. Also some really big problems. I revised this review due to a really helpful dude at the front desk.
Kestor was a big help.
Wonderful location with the best deals in dc, all utilities included, free parking, full gym and a small store where you can find decent wines. The person who helped us during the leasing process was Lizbeth Bourgerie and if I will have the ability to give 100 stars I will do it with all my heart because she was professional, very helpful and very genuine in every interaction.Recommend 100%!
The service is amazing! Barbara Dixon was a fantastic help when I was moving in. She did everything possible to help me out that day! Great building too!
The security guard and the front desk person wouldnt let me go up to the womens room to deliver the pizza but... when I got on the elevator without the security guards permission he didnt try to stop me. Or grab me so... Thats good.
Although the staff may be very kind and the true heart of this community this is not a good place to live, especially women living alone. Weve had mail men fired for gawking and following women through the building and extremely creepy residents who cat call. They claim to be pet friendly but they sincerely arent, there isnt even a proper place to walk your dog without being yelled at. Not to mention if you have an ESA you will be yelled at by residents and an occasional staff member grilling you about whether they are registered or not........even though they have a filing system for that. The building has roaches, that have been there since the 90s and the building refuses to do anything about it to the point where the city is now involved. Theres mice in addition to the roaches and the units are falling apart. Packages get stolen or lost all the time. The sensors on all the elevators are broken, when I say broken I mean nonexistent the doors have not only pinned me in but have began closing on my dog, and management is aware and yet they are not fixed. Parking seemed to be a perk until you realized that your car will likely get hit or you will get completely trapped in. I wish I could be happy with just the sweet and caring staff alone, but the buildings conditions are unacceptable.
Love this property it’s close to my school and the staff is great..
DO NOT LIVE HERE . It seems like a good deal at first, especially as a student, but the building is HORRIBLE. Theres cockroaches everywhere even if you have an immaculate apartment. The apartments are dated and shoddily put together. Once, I witnessed maintenance use gorilla glue to fix my oven. My cabinets fell off their hinges almost daily and my closet doors were always off track since the metal was painted over with tape. The updated cabinets were not sealed at all, allowing the bugs to come through the walls. The bathroom floor was literally covered worth a vinyl sticker which was not waterproof and caused mold to grow underneath. The rent is high and to top it off they make it extremely hard to even pay your own rent using by using an online system that gives you a window of 4 days to pay using only one bank account for the full amount - even if you live with roommates. In addition, they dont keep records and getting a copy of your own lease is nearly impossible since they dont give you a hard copy or online copy upon moving in.If youre not a student, living here is basically like living in a dorm hall - youll deal with loud neighbors in the middle of the night, red solo cups scattered throughout the property, and hoards of people coming in and out for parties and smoking on the patios. When we moved out we discovered black mold on the walls near the windows that had spread onto our furniture via the heater and windows.Additionally, the former leasing manager lost our paperwork and sent our deposit check to the apartment *we just moved out of* and we continue to deal with horrible service even after having left a month ago.Do not move here and do not let American University con you into living here either, this is a complete scam.
The Berkshire is reasonably priced, in an amazing location, and an extremely pleasant place to live.Dawn from the leasing office was amazing to work with, and made applying for and getting approved to move in a process that took absolutely no time at all.Overall, I’m thrilled with The Berkshire and I highly recommend people to look into these apartments if moving to this end of D.C.!
Great place to live and the location is also great. You have restraints and grocery stores in walking distance. Also there are nice walking paths and parks near by.
I was in the best care when working with Natasha. They kept me informed until move in day. Maintenance is wonderful. The staff is awesome everyone or working as one. I enjoy stay at The Berkshire. My home is wonderful with the best view.
I am glad to call the Berkshire my new home. Coming home to a spacious apartment and great lighting in living room is beyond wonderful. My boyfriend and I are just glad to find a nice, cozy and welcoming community - huge thanks to John from the leasing office who has help us through the process and accommodated any issue that we had encounter. Very attentive staff and great environment.
I have been living here for a year, and been visiting friends here for the last 4 years. Aside from the constant pest problem and constant smell of marijuana I never had any major issues. Until, I recently received a Lease Violation that I believe to be completely false. So I reached out to the manager via the contact information on the notice. After emailing a lengthy complaint with questions and concerns that were completely disregarded, I spent my entire morning trying to get in contact with him. One of the three people I spoke with was Edna in the leasing office who had terrible customer service. She repeatedly kept telling me to be patient and relax because hes busy and has other important things he has to deal with. I realize that, but as far as she was concerned I could have been trying to get a hold of this man for weeks. The last thing you need to be telling your CLIENT is to relax. And when I called her out and told her I was offended by it she just continued until I hung up. When I finally got in contact with the manager, Jerald, he already sounded like he had an attitude on the phone and didnt want to be speaking to me. If you know your client is disappointed in your services and seeking answers you should come with a polite, understanding, and apologetic tone. DO NOT GET INTO CUSTOMER SERVICE IF YOU CAN NOT DO THIS! I waited for the call all day and left with no answers, was hung up on, and felt like I wasnt heard at all. I hope American University disassociates with this building because this is ridiculous. I pay money to live here and I would like it if they could at least pretend to hear what I was saying. It was a waste of my time and a waste of my day. I am a huge fan of Gables Residents, having lived in multiple complexs associated with them, which is part of the reason I chose to live here. However, I think that this complex is a terrible representation of Gables quality of living and customer service and they should not fall under the companies name.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Ms.Natasha who was amazing. My apartment was ready and on time for my move in date. The space and layout is out of this world. She made sure my apartment was everything I dreamed of plus. I love coming home to my cozy place and my kids love it here too. Everything is conveniently right there. Thank you again Ms.Natasha
Never live in here!Im been living here for two years and I hate this place. Roaches everywhere in your room and even you can see live 4-5 big ones. Second one there is a staff in lease office who has short red hair (only this women has the red hair) she is being rude to the residence all the time. I remember once that I put a chair in the hall way just beside my door which is a small one. Cuz someone will pick it up the second day. Then the second day she is so angry to knock the door loudly and so loud talk with me like a mad dog which looks like she want to hurt me. So I’m just talking the truth I swear to god. So never live here and never talk with that red queen. She will ruin your life here.
So sad that I have to amend my previous positive review, which I left untouched below. Here is the amendment: on the day I was approved to move into the apartment, I got word an offer I had placed on a property was accepted, and gave written notice same day. Liz responded warmly, and said shed get the refund in the works for the refundable $225 fee. I checked in repeatedly as time went on and nothing happened, and finally, after over a month of emails and voicemails from me, I turned to my bank which investigated and adjudicated in my favor. Lo and behold, I finally got a response, not from Liz, but from someone else entirely, and not anyone on the group ccs of the emails I had sent to inquire about my refund. It said, Please note that you will need to submit your payment in the amount of $325 ($300+$25 returned fee) within 72hrs in certified funds. Failure to provide funds within 72hrs, we will forward your account to collections. So, buyer beware, I guess. Original review, provided by request of Gables and co. on the day I got the good news that I had been approved on the place I now live in, below:I worked with Lizbeth Bourgerie to find a place, and cant say enough about how helpful and informative she was. It wasnt just that she showed me properties in the Berkshire AND Yuma Gardens, which I adored, but she helped me with advice on timing, units that she knew would be coming available that might suit me better, how to work with and look out for good deals for new renters, move-in specials, and that kind of thing. She didnt make me feel rushed or like she had to hurry up and move on to someone else, she made good on all her promises to get me more information in a timely fashion! Not to mention shes just lovely company!
Ive lived here for three years. The maintenance team is amazing and always respond within a day. It is so close to everything so its definitely a good location. I particularly like the newer large gym, the area is safe and I plan on staying for a while.
I like living here but terrible communication. Ive emailed my leasing agent several times, only to find out that she does not work there anymore. I had to go down to the leasing office to find this out. Also, my resident portal has not been working and no one has been getting back to me about this. Because it is not working, it is so hard for me to make rent payments which is so frustrating since I cannot do it online. I have emailed several times about this. Please work on your communication skills.
I love living here! The staff in incredibly friendly and made me feel right at home. I also love that parking and utilities are included, which is hard to find in this area.
Leasing office is friendly, and treats tenants well. Affordable for the area, with a decent gym and awesome trail behind the building. Perfect for dog walking and meeting fellow pet owners in the area! The only complaint I have is, the cleaning crew occasionally leaving things messy for a few days (debris on hall floors), and repeatedly coming across them on their phones in the middle of the hallways.
A perfectly fine place to live. Clean, good location, management is fairly helpful and responsive. The package room is a disaster at all times though, with packages taking days or over a week to be processed after arrival. Popular with American University students, so can be loud and feel like a dorm on weekends, but there are also many families and professionals. Free parking and gym is a plus, as is the convenience of Reynas store in the basement.
Like my mom said I love coming home to watch tv and bake treats with my family
Moving In was very easy to do with all the help I received from the people working at The Berkshire.
DO NOT MOVE IN HERE! I have been living here for just over 6 months and I would do ANYTHING to get out of this lease. This is by far the worst apartment I have ever lived in. I have had a terrible pest problem for months, and management has done nothing more than send the same pest company to my unit over and over again which has proved themselves unsuccessful at dealing with roaches. I have purchased my own traps and powders and the roaches still do not go away, indicative of a serious infestation in the building. In addition to the pest problem, my bike was damaged by a construction company brought in to do work on the property while it was parked in the only approved location on this property. After contacting management, they will do nothing to help rectify this issue, and they offer no safe place for bike storage even though it is advertised on their website. Their laundry machines are outdated and have ruined hundreds of dollars of my clothes and still, they do nothing. DO NOT choose to sign a lease here. You are guaranteed to run into issues.
Moved to DC for Law school wish I did more research on this place before I put a deposit. Currently counting the roaches making their way across my wall as I write this review. No matter how I clean I keep my place they are always here. It’s like an infestation. Not to mention a few months into the lease my ceiling in the bathroom was leaking. They overprice the place, and charge for all the simple extras. Also some of the people in the leasing office gave me a very bad attitude and are not helpful. I wish I could warn everyone who comes to do a viewing. STEER CLEAR
Location, location, location, and great amenities describe my experience here at the Berkshire. I like green space, and if you love that also, this is a great place to live. Drawbacks, it is in desperate need of an office center and the roaches can sometimes be an issue. I solved mine by buying Combat roach traps. Overall, it is a great place to live.
3 months in and quite satisfied with the apartment. Large, inexpensive and very convenient. Students have gone for the summer so much quieter, but also not as animated. Staff have been fine, no roaches in our flat because we keep it clean. Imagine student apartments have issues as many are, well, not so clean. However, all students I have encountered were friendly and curteous. Store on site very helpful, owner quite pleasant. Check back in 3 for a 6 month review.
The staff here is very helpful and they made move in a breeze. Natasha and Wesley were attentive to our needs every step of the way.
To get rid of the roaches, use pure peppermint oil. It works... trust me when I tell you this. Having pest control in your units every week is not going to EVER solve the problem. I have been there, done that. Get peppermint oil and spray all over your house.
Lived there for two years. Cockroaches everywhere. Beware. Place should be demolished.
Not too bad of a place! I wish the management were better, but everyone else, especially maintenance, are great! The gym is good, and the convenience store downstairs is owned by good people.
If you need any help, please find Natasha Anderson, she is very kind and lively and has helped me out a lot with information and guidance since the first day moved in.So far so good, great location for AU student but the price is quite hefty for students.
This is building is literally ROBBING its tenants. The rent is exorbitantly high for what you get. What you get are roaches, poor plumbing, and cheap utilities. The staff is unsupportive and not helpful in any way. They stole a months rent from me because I had to send it in through money order or cash and not via the portal. They purposely do not send a reminder of their early Notice to Vacate period. They take every opportunity to use and exploit the American University students who live here. DO NOT LIVE HERE IF YOU WANT A QUALITY APARTMENT FOR YOUR MONEY!!!
I have lived here for more than a year anf I have been very happy about having free convenient parking, gym and knowing that for any issue I have, maintenace is gonna come almost right away. :)
The Berkshire is located in a really nice area close to anything you could want to do. The building has great amenities and the staff is friendly.
The Berkshires is a dirty unkept building. The minute you move in you will find your cheap apartment paint will be falling off to reveal dirty disgusting walls. As a student I have discovered you can either move somewhere that is less expensive and more sanitary, or you can move on campus if you want to be closer to school! The building is stuffy with horrible AC. I highly recommend not wasting your money living somewhere like this.
If I could give 0 stars to this place, I would.Their staff is incompetent and unbelievably unorganized.Theyve lost 3 of my packages over the span of 2 weeks. After having FedEx come out and track the package, I relayed the information to the front desk, only to have a staff member say that FedEx was lying. No sense of accountability, even with a reputable company like FedEx.My roommate tried retrieving his package only to be told he had to wait because the current staff member in the lobby doesnt know the password to the computer. Are you kidding me? Ridiculous.
I love it here good Neighbors peaceful and happy environment, everything reasonable & convenient Im in a 1 bed room & its space for Everything literally
The move in was great i have no problem with my apartment i really like view from my apartment window this is really nice apartment complex
You know that the apartment building is not well-managed when the leasing office personnel simply cannot wait until you finish your sentence. They misunderstand what you say, do not listen, and do not realize that they need to communicate a lot better.Miscommunication occur when people are unwilling to slow down and when it comes to terms of housing, this can have severe consequences. I would avoid this apartment building.
Managers always illegally invade their homes. Personal privacy and security are not guaranteed.Express often loses
Needs serious extermination done for the ENTIRE building. I will report this building and management to the department of housing and have written upper management because the current manager are very very lax and are stealing money from residents. The truly need to be ashamed. How do you live with yourselves (managers) knowing that the building is crawling with roaches and has been for a long time.
Havent moved in yet but the apartment had a lot of little things that needed fixing. The staff was very good about coming in and fixing it. There are a lot of poor reviews on here so I am nervous to move in hoping I don;t have the same experience. So far things are looking up, we shall see.
For the price it is not a bad deal and the staff are pretty nice. In my case if you keep the place clean there are no bugs.
Decent building - improvements are happening at a slow pace. Need improvement in package hours. Staff is great.
My friends and I recently moved into the Berks in March and it is nothing like we expected. We have been living with german roaches for the past couple months and have been complaining to stay on top of it but the problem has not be resolved. Our apartment has been treated SIX times and we still have the roaches. Clearly this building has an infestation of bugs and there is a bigger problem than just our unit. We recently went to look at different apartments in the Berks to move out of the one we are in and saw about nine dead roaches in the five minutes of viewing that apartment, which was five floors down from where we live now. This is not acceptable. The staff here ignores our emails as if they dont get them. I should not have to email three times up to a week later to get a response for a problem that the manager told me he was going to email me with later that day. This is not ok. We have been living with our kitchen and dining room pulled apart for over a week without hearing what is happening. This is not a way someone should have to live and quit frankly we cannot keep living like this. We are college students that are being taken advantage of and with all the money we pay to live here, it is not worth it.
For the price of the unit in the location its in, it is not a bad deal. I live in a studio apartment and have had overall a positive experience. Whenever an issue comes up with my apartment, maintenance has been timely in responding and usually available to help within the hour. There are a lot of college students living here, which sometimes makes it a bit noisy but this often is not an issue once I enter my apartment cause the walls are thick. They do their best to make sure security is a priority and have a guest sign in and usually private security on some of the week nights and week ends in the later hours. I have never felt unsafe anywhere in the building. The amenities are great from what I can tell. The gym looks nice as I walk by it to buy something like candy or eggs or oil from the store on the premises. And the club room which is available for rent is also a pretty good place to host gatherings. Love the fact there is a bus stop right out front which can take me directly into downtown or to friendship heights. And the Tenleytown Red Line Station is about a 20 min walk away. It is also located parallel to Wisconsin Ave which has many restaurants, shops, and other things going all the way up to tenleytown station. And when the weather is nice, it is a nice 13 min walk to the grocery store. In terms of the reviews talking about bugs, the management has been very active in addressing the concerns of residents that manage to spot one and have terminators treating the room usually within 24 hours. They just switched companies so there can be some huge improvements in the next few months depending on how good the company is. Overall, I do not mind living here and have had a positive experience so far. The leasing staff were very communicative and ready to answer any questions and made the leasing process as painless as possible. The maintenance staff and front desk people are friendly and wonderful. The location is good, the price is good, and the overall environment is good. Also it totally is a HUGE plus that they have FREE outdoor parking if that is something you are interested in.
Basically be prepared to live in a dorm and forget about calling your home calm and peaceful. The noise complaint policy in the building is a joke and the management is a disaster. Cant wait to leave this building soon.
Honestly i love living here! super convenient and the front desk is usually quite accommodating
This is a wonderful place and all the staff are so nice and it is very convinient to everywhere.
The worst apartment complex. DAWN is very rude. While having a conversation with her she said to me “I can see we are gonna have a problem with you. I found this comment very offense due to my race and I can not wait to speak with the community manager. They allow the concierge TAYWON to be very disrespectful to the residents. You would think that because I am a resident and they’re being paid for me to live here that the disrespectful concierge would be penalized and not myself. DAWN has a nasty attitude and didn’t want to hear anything I had to say. She basically brushed me off and rushed me out of the office by cutting me off everytime I spoke. Aside from this the units are roach infested and this has been an ongoing issue since I moved in, in November. I’ve complained about the roaches 3 times already. The exterminating is clearly not working. They obviously need a better solution!! I’m tired of having to empty my cabinets for the exterminator just for me to still have to kill roaches day and night. When I mentioned the roach infestation to DAWN she says to me “what roaches” lol like she doesn’t know the building has roaches and the exterminators are here literally every week! Wow! Had I read reviews prior to me moving in I would have never in a millions years chose to live in such raggedy environment!!!
Disgusting. Management is VERY rude, especially with American University students (for who they should be grateful for, if not, this place would probabbly be empty). Roaches everywhere, the building itself stinks, the hallways color (gray) make it look depressing, the hallways carpet is always dirty, apartments are not renovated and look old. Very overpriced for what it is. Ive also been wanting to move for a while and both times Ive tried (Im on a month to month lease) they give me a hard time and want to charge me fees, just to keep me here. Thank god this will be my last year here. Do not reccomend it, there are many more buildings near, in this area, that are clean, have a great staff, renovated apartments and are not full of roaches. Dont waste your time.
Terrible and scam.I always used to visit my freind and we dont have to take visitor permit because they usually don’t care. I visited him like ten times. When I visited him last weekend and was leaving, i noticed i was given a 250$!! ticket. For wrong parking? What the heck! If i was parking in front of the white house I wouldn’t get this much.We were a group of 5 who were planning to move within a few months, but this made us change our mind and it is a very bad first impression.Update: i sent an email 2 months ago and still they didn’t reply
Worst environment I have ever lived in my life. Cockroaches everywhere especially in the kitchen and bathroom when lights are turned off at night. People who live downstairs smoke weed all the time and the smell goes into my room and I reported to the Berskshire but no one cares. Gym is not 24/7. Front desk workers are mean and the management is such as a mess. If you cant walk then this is not a place for you since their elevators break down every few days.
Good price for the area — staff is very helpful and friendly.
