Recently moved to Walnut Creek and needed to find a new shop for maintenance. I called several different locations trying to gather information on a brake job for one of our vehicles. Tim was very professional and upfront on the phone and was the only person who actually gave his name when taking my call. Tim is awesome. Had them replace an air conditioner over three years ago and it is still going strong. I recently called in because I am selling a car that stalled because of low idle. Tim asked if I recently replaced the battery, which I did, and told me my particular car takes time to relearn where to idle after replacing the battery so I should give it time and see if it resolves. I wanted the to check out the car anyways because I am selling the car and wanted piece of mind everything was running well. They confirmed it was just the idle resetting and gave me a price break. Got to appreciate the honesty! I took my other car in for brakes. This is my go to mechanic. Fair, honest, and great work that is much cheaper than paying dealer prices.

We had been going to the dealership in Oakland for almost 5 years for our car’s regular maintenance. After moving farther from the city, we decided to try a family-owned auto shop to take care of our car. And so we found Diablo Auto as it has really good reviews and high rating. Making an online appointment was very easy. They send reminders. Check-in and out was smooth. Special instructions (no tire rotation as we do it separately) were followed and the tasks performed on the car were meticulously explained before we leave. We can tell right away that our Subie had the proper maintenance as its engine seems to run more smoothly after. A more personalized customer service is a nice touch as you talk directly with the owner, Tim. My husband will be bringing his Crown Vic next time. We are hoping this is a start of a lasting partnership with Diablo Auto.

Recently had two vehicles repaired at Diablo Auto Specialists - great service on both. Recently bought a used salvage car (2014 Toyota Camry) and brought in for a service plus thorough check the car. They performed a brake job and resolved some other maintenance issues - runs great and should be reliable for a while. Also brought in our 1998 Ford Expedition - have been taking it here for 10 years and now has almost 260,000 miles. This vehicle also received a brake job, power steering adjustment and other service. Tim and his team do a great job letting you know what you can hold-off on and also what you can let go without sacrificing safety. As this is an old vehicle almost at end of life Tim is reluctant to perform expensive repairs that do not extend the overall life of the vehicle. This demonstrates honesty and integrity.

I took my car here for a “second opinion” after I was told I needed some major work done on my relatively new car by the dealer. As a female who has no interest in cars other than as a means to get me to work safely, I never know when I am being taken advantage of when it comes to cars and repairs. DAS -- once again -- set the right expectations then delivered with excellence! The front brake rotors, pads, and both axles were replaced. Upon completion, we had a question regarding the feel of the brake pedal. Without hesitation, Tim asked us to bring the vehicle back. My experience with Diablo Automotive Specialists was great. I was able to request an appointment online, it was quickly confirmed, and they were ready and waiting for my car on the day of service. Part of my service was for a check engine light for which I was originally quoted a diagnostic fee. After reading the codes, Tim called me to explain the necessary repairs and that they were waiving the diagnostic fee because my particular issue did not require significant effort on their part to diagnose and confirm. They obviously could have charged me since they performed the service requested. I have not had other shop’s waive fees regardless of situation and was impressed by this honest, straightforward, and open approach.

After several discouraging experiences with the Honda dealership service in both Oakland and Concord, I received a respected referral to Diablo Auto. I made an appointment and brought my Honda Civic to Diablo Automotive for its regular oil service. The experience was very positive and personally pleasant. I was not processed. My car was serviced in a timely manner. Detailed measurements and inspections were printed out for me and recommendations made to me. They recommended a battery replacement in the near future. I had them do it while I was there which did not take much more time. They test drove the vehicle to ensure that all parts were working well. The bill was fair and lower than the dealerships and the treatment was superior to any Id experienced before.

Tim and his team at Diablo are consistently wonderful to work with. Professional, knowledgeable and friendly! I first went to them after a frustrating experience trying to get my 9-year-old Honda minivan to stop stalling out while driving. The Honda dealership tried 3 different times to fix it, charging me for something else every time that did not fix it. They claimed to be stumped and wanted to do some $1000 repair just to see if that would work. I got a recommendation to Diablo from a good friend and Tim diagnosed it over the phone! In person, he verified it and fixed it easily. (It was replacing something about the ignition for under $100 which Tim said was a common issue in older cars). I asked him why the Honda dealership didn’t know this and he was too polite to say! I have trusted Diablo and referred friends for years now. I should have written a review before now.

Its rare to find an honest mechanic nowadays. Especially as a woman, most mechanics tend to talk down to me and sell me things I dont need. Im no expert in cars, but Ive had to read up on certain things to not get bamboozled! Diablo Auto Specialists are honest and never talked down to me when I took my car in for a suspected leak.
