Came in with a smoking front tire break. Took a look, fiddled around/fixed a few small things, and could drive all the way back to oakland without a hitch. They didnt charge us anything for their quick look, and we didnt have any cash so we HAD to at least give them a glowing review for their thorough, professional and speedy service. Everyone we asked while we were waiting to get towed recommended them and we see why - we recommend them now too!

After having to write a dire warning to others about a shop in Nevada, I had to give props to the best shop me & my ol’ ‘75 Ford encountered on our 1,200-mile odyssey. We got towed here on a weekend because it was most suited to street parking in the camper. (Great neighborhood to stroll while you’re waiting for repairs!). I didn’t know a thing about the place, and feared for the worse. The truck had lost acceleration on a downhill stretch of 101 with what I thought was vapor lock. Maybe the alternator... an expensive repair! It took a couple of days for the boys to research and wait for parts, but they let me “plug in”, and always made sure to check up on me and offer coffee, water, and restroom access. The problem ended up being a short in the tachometer wire, which fried the relay. They charged me far less than the time put in researching, instead of doing what *most* shops seem to do to nomads like me - which is charge an arm & leg on parts I don’t need, or make it run *just enough* to get me down the road a short way before breaking down again with same problem - only then I’d be too far to take it back. The truck ran beautifully for hundreds of miles after Dorsey’s (till presented with new, unrelated problems). The boys were very professional, friendly, and respectful - another rarity these days, especially for us ladies.Happy to recommend these guys & share with the world that not ALL auto shops rip you off or try to make you feel stupid. You’re lucky to have this place, Ukiah!

Summary: Ken (the boss) and the rest of the Dorseys crew are knowledgeable, honest, fair, and efficient. Only positive words, no complaints.Details: Stopped for gas in Ukiah with our 2006 Tundra, Thursday 8pm. As I was driving away at about 25MPH, the front left wheel collapsed, and the truck came to a screeching uncontrolled stop. AAA recommended a local shop (that shall remain nameless) and said that they would tow the truck and leave it in their yard and deposit the key in their mail-slot. The tow-truck driver (and a couple of other drivers who stopped to see if they could help) suggested that I had broken a lower ball-joint. The tow-truck driver said that this is a very common Toyota issue. Anyway, the truck was towed to the recommended yard.Next morning (Friday), I called the shop around 9am. They still hadnt looked at the truck. They said that they dont work Sat and Sun, and it would be tight to get the truck done by the close of Friday. I explained that it was a 6 hour roundtrip for me from San Jose up to Ukiah to pick up my truck next week.By 11am still no word from the other shop. I pass by Dorseys (based on his Google reviews) and show him the picture attached. He took the time to explain what he thought happened and the things that would have to be fixed/replaced. He recommended that I replace both lower ball joints (left and right) to be sure that the other one doesnt fail later. He called up various shops to arrange for the parts he needed even before he physically had the truck in his shop. He gave me a rough bid of $1000 and said that he would do his best to have it done by end of the day (Friday). I went back to the first shop. They still hadnt even looked at my truck at 11:30am and clearly werent in any rush to. I apologized and explained that I really needed to have my truck fixed by 5pm so I could drive home. I called AAA and arranged for another tow to Dorseys. By 12pm, the truck was up on Dorseys lift (even though they were having lunch then). They looked over the truck with me and explained that the damage looked much less than they expected. The axle was still good, and the brake-line was still intact. I left to have lunch, but I was expecting the job to take most of the afternoon. At 1:50, I got a call from Ken. The truck was done and ready to go! All of this while his crew were juggling at least 4 other customers who I saw during my 3 visits to the shop. Clearly he was busy, but he and his crew made the time to work on my truck. To my surprise (and without me asking or negotiating with him), Ken had changed my invoice to exclude the parts that he had ordered but hadnt used along with the labor for them. The final invoice was for $560 to replace two lower ball-joints, swap the spare for the busted tire, replace the axle, refill the differential fluid, and test drive. What an honest guy! I had no leverage, and he knew it; I needed to get back on the road that night, but Ken didnt take advantage of my situation. He was courteous and fair. Thanks Ken!

Clutch on my 2005 Subaru Legacy went out. Took it to Dorseys. Ken Dorsey assured me he could handle the repair but it would be a big job since he had to pull the engine to access the clutch. Three or four days later the car was picked up and driven to Colorado, on the second day of driving the motor blew. Hauled it back to Dorseys, he refused to even go there about what could have gone wrong on his end and did zero diagnostics to find the source of the failure.I talked to two other mechanics (including Subaru dealership mech) about the clutch job and they all said you do not need to pull the motor for this job and were confused as to why he did it this way. When I asked Ken Dorsey about this all I got was radio silence. At the end of the day Ken Dorsey seems like a hack mechanic with little professional sense.

I called and told them my problem. They told me that I could bring it in and theyd charge me for an hours time to figure out what was causing it. When I asked for a quote estimate the tone I got was so rude, like I was wasting their time by asking instead of just bringing it in. Id researched ahead of time and was just looking for a range since theres no point for me to bring it to get it diagnosed if I cant afford to have it finished.

Ken the shop manager was so helpful. My family and were traveling from eureka to Vacaville when on hwy101, my 2013 f150 starting going into limp mode. We made into town Ukiah. Talked to Ken and he set us up to get our vehicle on the road the next day while waiting for the part to fix the issue. He even recommended VOLL Motel down the street. Thank you Ken.

Our car broke down on our way from Seattle to San Francisco. Even though it was 15 min to close, Ken at Dorseys picked up right away, got me in touch with a towing service and motel, and said he would get on it first thing in the morning. Advanced Towing picked us up, dropped our car at Dorseys and us at the Voll Motel down the street. Ken kept me updated in real time, and was able to clean ourt our rear diff and order and install a new wheel bearing within 3 hours. Car runs great now! These are trustworthy people!

The guys at Dorsey’s are awesome! I can’t say enough good about them. Our motorhome spit a spark plug leaving us stranded on the 101 in Laytonville. Ken at Dorsey’s said absolutely no problem, they could get to it first thing in the morning at 7:30, after having a shop in Laytonville tell us they wouldn’t touch it. He told me where to have the tow truck drop the motorhome in front of the shop and offered to leave an extension cord out the door for us so we could boondock right there, as we wouldn’t arrive until after they were closed for the day. 7:15 a.m. rolled around and the guys got right on it. They had us back on the road within about an hour! Super nice, hard working crew. Thank you Ken and the Dorsey crew!!!
