Went to pick up a van at Traverse City airport last week. Waited nearly an hour in line because both agents spent all their time trying to figure out one person, then one of them left. When we finally got to the front, we had to wait another 45 min because our flight was early and the van wasn’t clean. Had an even worse experience in Key West a few months ago. Hour and a half for the single agent to get through maybe 8 people.National is great at major airports where you can just grab and go from the emerald aisle but seems like they don’t know how to handle more than one customer at a time at the regional airports.
Pick up and drop off were extremely easy. Traverse City is a small airport and if you have your paperwork in order you are in and out in no time.
Car was dirty and smelled like smoke. Lots of dents in car. Was told I was getting an upgrade but never happened.
Although the airport was quite busy when I arrived and left, the service at National was VERY quick! And, the price was 25% lower than the Costco car rental price!
Satellite radio never worked. Called national multiple times to get satellite radio working but it never happened.....very annoying.
The agent served me politely and efficiently. However, the car smelled very badly of cigarettes. I requested a different car. The agent said he could only offer me a discount. I appreciated the discount, but had to drive a very smelly car 500 miles that day. The smell was so strong that my clothes and belongings picked it up. This car also was old for a rental, with almost 40,000 miles on it. Overall I was not happy with the experience.
I asked for a zippy car and I got one! I love the Kona and had a great time driving it around. National was very accommodating to my needs and I was able to rent a car one way from Traverse City, MI to Columbus, OH. I will definitely be renting from National again in the future.
So, I only have one issue with this facility. The closure time is 6pm and they dont have an option for late pick-up. My flight was delayed and I got moved to the last flight getting into TVC from ORD. I called ahead to try and work something out so I could still get a car that night and they couldnt help me. There should be some option for a late pick-up available. I could have gotten to Gaylord that night, but instead I had to get a hotel in Traverse City and come back when they opened at 10am the next day. It basically cost me a day in travel and two taxi cab rides. Other than that, the vehicle was clean and worked great. I just think they should have options for late arrivals. A locker with a code or something. Simply saying nope, cant help you isnt acceptable in my book.
After our flight was delayed, I called National to make sure I’d still be able to pick up my vehicle as our updated flight was arriving after 9 PM. I was told by the national rep that the airport location was scheduled to close at 8:30 but there was a two hour window after closure that they could wait for me, so someone would be there for me to receive the vehicle from. Long story but the net is no one was there and my family and I were stranded an hour away from our rental late Saturday night in a small town. Would give zero stars if possible.
I have been using National for years and they never disappoint. Great cars and great customer service keep me coming back!
The car rental is only open from 10am-6pm. Be aware and if you fly in the airport after these hours you are without a car.
If you are going through the Cherry Capitol Airport, National is my stop. It is right next to the bag carousel. It allows for picking up bag and checking in for the rental simultaneously. The staff at the counter were very helpful in matching the right vehicle to my needs. The part of Michigan I was traveling was a bit remote; they were able to get me into a proper 4x4 to ensure that I would not get stuck during my extended stay in the state park about an hour east.Check-in was simple and pleasant; check-out was a breeze. Had my receipt in my email before I left the desk. Next time I go through Traverse City, this will be my rental location.

The car rental in TVC was perfect. I rented in Traverse City MI for a day. Then we were off to Detroit for a day. I looked online to use one of my free days (join the emerald clubs people it truly rocks with benefits) when I looked online I was told it would be $45.00. Im thinking to myself thats a little strange and steep for a free day. So I looked at a competitor site (3rd party.) Now I dont mind paying taxes and such. But when another sight tells me I can get a rental for $5.00 more then using my free day..... whats a guy to do. When I arrived in Detroit I called National the person on the phone told me the same price. I was escalated to the loyalty department and once more, got the $45 charge. But by and manipulating the timeframe of having the rentel, he had gotten down to $1.00 and change. Too little to late... I had already booked my car. Why would I burn a free day for the same rate as a competitors full price? Just really bummed that as some as Im able to travel again, Im having to deal with this.
Amazing customer service The Smiling dont stop the enthusiasm is over the top just standing in line hearing all the happiness makes me feel like my business is going in the right direction we were up here on a moving job and renting a car one way home could not have asked for a better experience your leaves are awesome
National @ TVS had best prices AND they upgraded my Corolla to a Jaguar F-Pace! Check-in and return were fast n easy. Super experience.

Flights arrive at airport at 8:30 am and they don’t open until 10:00 am. That information should be provided at time of booking.
Great experience at the lovely Traverse City airport in Michigan. As usual, National had the car we wanted, it was clean, up to date, ran well, and even had great gas mileage to boot! The representatives at the counter were friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this National car rental location!
Cars are generally in good condition. I have had issues with tank not being full when I pick the car up. Cleaning could also be a little better. Inside of windshield usually needs cleaned so I can see out without that haziness. Overall good. I use them 2-3 times per month.
The people that work the counter are awesome! Even when really busy they keep their cool and handle everything just great. The cost was as quoted, the car was clean and fueled and the return was flawless. I will use National again.
Fastest car rental counter I have ever encountered! I will be back next week.
National has the easiest experience for a seasoned traveler.. no check in lines, any car choice, quick drop off experience.. have used for years!

The vehicle I rented was nice and in great condition, I’ve rented vehicles from other rental companies and after doing a walk around before taking possession of the vehicle I found several to be damaged (always do a walk around before leaving) National/Enterprise I haven’t experienced this issue and the customer service is always superb.

The reservation was made online. Upon arriving to pick up the car, a change was required in the reservation. The attendants were unable to process the change. The inability to alter the reservation (insurance) raised the final cost of the rental, $120.
Plenty of SUVs.
