I can’t believe the level of incompetence of first hertz, second their employee Bernard. Picked up a vehicle that literally had a sticky coffee spill in the back, hadn’t been vacuumed, and had crushed Doritos under the seat. This wasn’t the worst part. It was a cargo van, the spare tire was on the van and the spare under the car wasn’t there. They had also messed with the mileage on the vehicle. They yelled at us for complaining. They also refused to figure out any replacement plan for the spare tire. They are a freaking nightmare. Scott and Bernard. If they are at the desk hope and pray that they aren’t there.
Happen to search rates day of pick up and find a rate for a larger car for over $100 less (for 3 days of rental) when you pick up your car? Cannot cancel or edit your reservation. And a 5% of your total rental fee will be charged just to speak with a human on the phone. Don’t be fooled by “cheaper” pay ahead rates. Go elsewhere if you can.
Their Traverse City sales associate upgraded me to a Mustang GT on my corporate rate. He said it wouldnt cost any more, but when I received my receipt it was nearly $400 more than what I intended to pay. He assured me the remaining balance was what they charged my company and not me. When I got stuck with a $500+ bill and called customer service they told me that it was non-refundable and that I had to pay it because I signed it. Refused to escalate it to a manager because they wouldnt be able to do anything about it. Pathetic excuse for customer service...
I could write a long story about how Troy at Hertz SAVED my butt, but all you need to know is that he DID! He went out of his way to not only get me a car when they were sold out, but he also gave me an incredible rate. If im back in Traverse City and need a car, Im going straight to Troy at HERTZ, and you should too.
Both interactions with the guy with gray hair and glasses were unpleasant. He was terse, rude, and seemed like he couldnt get me out of their fast enough. Barked at me for my name when I handed him a piece of paper with my name and reservation number on it. Demanded keys instead of giving me a pleasant greeting at my return. I dont have time for jerks. Ill go somewhere else next time.
Booked vehicle days in advance for Memorial weekend. Drove an hour from home to rent the vehicle for vacation to be told they do not accept my credit card. They should list on their site what credit cards they accept and dont accept. All other car rentals are booked now because of the holiday.
I have rented cars from this Hertz location many times over the years and have always felt like a valued customer. Their cars are clean, well maintained and the selection is good. Staff members have consistently been helpful, efficient and welcoming.In some cities I have changed from using Hertz to Avis but the staff at the Cherry Capital Hertz has earned my loyalty.
Do not use this location for anything. They refused to help a 71 year old crash victim. No connections in Traverse city, with closest friend or relative 500 miles away. All the woman wanted was a way home 500 miles away. She had been in a severe car crash the day before with her husband who was laying in a hospital bed unable to help and was separated from and unable to get to her belongings and her smashed unusable car. She was living in clothes from a social worker because her clothes had been cut off her in the ER. In complete distress she went to this location for help in renting or some how getting a car home or at least to her car and belongings 50 miles away. She had credit cards and an expired picture id drivers license. They pretended to help her at the same time refusing any real help. All she needed was use of a computer for 5 minutes and she could have received information they need to help her. She was refused this simple request. The absolute repulsing behavior and refusal to let her use a computer for 5 minutes lead to 2 more days of this women trying to get to her crashed car and belongings. If this is how Hertz trains its managers they obviously have no compassion or empathy for a fellow human being. This is a complete repulsive action by the manager Berard Priante. This man should never be given authority over another persons interests.
Forced to sign that I have read terms and conditions before they would allow me to read them. And when I asked to read them before signing they told me if I dont want to sign I can go somewhere else. Dont go here unless you want to agree to terms your not allowed to know until you sign. Unprofessional and dont recomend to anyone

During this time- I have been hugely disappointed with the corporate decisions of Hertz. Low staffing - 30-60 minute phone wait times EVERY CALL. Car was towed- never closed out- left stranded- no ride to airport. Charged a late fee. Each person was trying to be helpful, corporate policies have turned this into a nightmare. I have had to invest over 7 hours on the phone to try and just make sure this rental record was closed out. No ONE person can do anything- please call back.
Renal place is easy to get to. Can call ahead and reserve a car. Cars are very clean and just a few years old. Wifi available in car.
I was really disappointed when I asked for prepaid gas at the Traverse City location, drove to Lansing location for dropoff (without filling up again) and the the agent charged me $9.99 per gallon for the gas used. I objected and he informed me that the 1st agent didnt record it as prepaid. He charged me the $70+ extra. if they would have let me have the car back, I would have been happy to go fill it up. We called the national number, waited for 85 minutes to talk with someone and they still wouldnt adjust it. I feel like I was scammed!!
The people are really nice but they dont offer late pickup. What are people who arrive late supposed to do?
This was the worst, first I got fat tire,, they said drive it to a shop, can not get fix for a day, then I dont even get to use the car and they charge me for it ! I DIDNT EVEN GET TO USE IT!
I was overcharged and provided incorrect information about an after-hours drop off by a Hertz agent at the Traverse City, MI location. I changed a two-day rental to a one-day rental after the agent said I could drop the car off after business hours at the end of the first day. I explicitly asked the agent about this as a way to save money. The agent neglected to tell me I would still be charged for a second day and at a higher rate if I dropped the car off after business hours at the end of the first day, When I noticed the larger amount billed to my card I returned to the Hertz location and asked the same agent about the charge. He was uninterested in my concerns and unapologetic. Poor customer service.
Need improvement on customers service. There were cars in the lot, seemed not interested helping a Hertz employee.
Complete trainwreck of a branch. Apparently its too difficult for their staff to figure out how to extend a rental agreement while also extending the coverage on the car for insurance. Wont ever use Hertz again, should have stuck with Enterprise / National as Ive never had any issues with them...
Great experience with this car rental service! They got me processed quickly for my rental car so I could be on my was at in a jiffy, and they offer the pre-pay fuel service, which was very convenient for me so I didnt have to worry about filling the tank before returning. Returning was very easy too, and took less than 2 minutes!
This will be the last year renting through hertz. This rental service has been heading down hill and finally I can’t handle the Impolite costumer service and vehicular issues I have experienced for the second year in a row. Low grade service and poor vehicle upkeep, minimal vehicle selection, and poor costomer communication. 2019
I rent over 70 days per year. Tonight, I showed up at this place and the agent Berard Priante says “I’m sorry sir. We are out of cars. I will give you credit for your rental but you are going to have to pay for your taxi. 2.5 HOURS AWAY. I’m sorry sir, this is just a reservation.” Reason # 4,892 why I don’t rent with Hertz. I’m pretty sure this fella is the owner.
We had rented a car to drive from Ohare to home in Grand Rapids. A few days later the Traverse City office called me to tell me they found my sons passport in the car. I was really impressed that they would take the time to do that, and want to give the Traverse City Hertz a little recognition for doing the right thing .
I seriously dont understand all the positive reviews. Our car wasnt even ready when got there at our scheduled time and the man at the counter was exceedingly rude. We used this Hertz a couple years ago and also had a customer service person who had a negative attitude. Maybe we were just there on off days, but from what weve experienced, the staff here just seem to be miserable people.
The counter person at Hertz was very friendly and he ungraded my car without me asking him to. Since it was late at night, he even went out to the lot and brought the car up to the curb. Very nice service and a very good price! About $150 for 4.5 days of service with a car drop at Detroit Metro. Of course, it is off season and that does help with pricing!

Was told when we booked that an SUV would be available (requested due to snow). Arrived to only be told there were no SUVs available, despite two being parked right next to the impala we were given (which had a broken volume knob, so you could only listen to very loud music or turn it off completely).
Worst experience ever. They wouldn’t expect my husbands credit card with my driver’s license.
The staff at the Traverse City Airport Hertz station were friendly and helpful at check in but perhaps a little understaffed to accommodate the crowd ;although I understand it because the airport is small . My car was immaculate and perfect for my drive to Petoskey.I accidentally left my favorite black sweater in the vehicle. It was never located which was disappointing.
The lady that answered the phone was extreamly rude. I asked to talk to a ma ager and she said she was. I asked to speak with another one and she got even rudder to me and hung yp on me after i told her ahe was rude. I will never rent from this company. It was all a miss understanding as to how much the hold fee was and why i needed it.

Please do not rent from this establishment! My Mom got into a bad car accident south of Traverse City in Ludington and her car got totaled. In order to get home she needed a rental car and the owner refused to do business with her because we have insurance through Progressive and Progressive always uses Enterprise, you are only going through us because Enterprise has no cars. My Mom was just trying to enjoy what was left of her vacation and find a way home. They have a 50 mile drop-off radius and my Mom was willing to meet them somewhere. Disgraceful and shameful, the owner acted like a child. My Mom ended up going through Avis in Muskegon instead.
They were rude and did not have the car that they told the corporate office they did. 10/10 would rent from anyone else. Not normally a pain in the butt but I am a presidents circle member and this could be enough to make me jump ship and go elsewhere.

Staff at the counter were extremely rude and unhelpful and the van that we got stank of cigarettes and marijuana. There were apparently no other vehicles available and we were forced to transport our children in a vehicle that smelled so strongly that it made us all nauseous. There was even cigarette ash in the car remaining from some previous driver.
A great car with amazing mileage. Counter people at TVC airport are the best!
Reasonable rates and fair service.
When I picked up car staff was polite.I didnt like the fact that no one went outside to inspect car, but was told if any, come back in and let us know. Well there was and I had to go back to counter. The car got great mileage (35). Only thing we didnt like was was noisey inside the car while driving and made for an annoying 1800 miles. Upon return I was told, Oh you could have exchanged it for another at any hertz . It was to late for that.

Our plane landed at 2315 (1115 PM) from Chicago on United. When we arrived even though we had a reservation there were no cars available. We checked the other rental places and they also did not have any cars. We were instructed by Hertz to take a taxi to our hotel for the night and a taxi back to the airport the following morning. Hertz took the amount of the taxi rides off of our final bill which was nice, but it was a bit of an inconvenience and I was unable to drive to the gym for my early morning workout. The lady at the Hertz desk was very nice and apologetic about the situation. While in both taxis the drivers said that it is a common problem for flights to arrive late and the rental places not have cars. Like I said everyone at the Hertz desk was very nice and apologetic about not having the car for us when we arrived, but its something that you may want to be aware of if your taking the last flight into Traverse City.
