Poorly maintained gym, I have been working out at this gym for two months, the stretch area had never been cleaned since I came, I have been seeing same dirt, hair stay at same place for two months! which means they never vacuum the carpet! People are using the equipments but didn’t see anyone swipe it after practicing. Cannot believe this is the way the staff maintain cleanliness during Covid. I was thinking of sending kids here to have fun but after seeing all these I decide not to. Last, one of the front desk guy is funny, he see people walk in and out but pretend doing other things rather than say hi, this is really an interesting attitude to treat clients.

Great gym with a good atmosphere, friendly staff, great workout area, and pretty good bouldering area. I gave this review only 3 stars because most of the holds are greasy and look like they haven’t been replaced in years. Not the best of climbing gyms, but it’s not even close to the worst either.

They have a new policy for drop ins as of 4/27/21. There are no longer 5 drop in slots at the beginning of the reservation block. I waited about 30min from the start of the reservation block and I was able to get in as a drop in. Bathrooms are open and clean, and the lockers are walled off. Overall I felt comfortable bouldering as people respected each others space, there was ample hand sanitizer and each wall was marked off.

Planet Granite will always feel like home. After two years in LA and many top-class gyms, I STILL miss Planet Granite. I think about it all the time. Why? Community! This gym is SO welcoming. I’ve made so many friends here— gym goers and staff alike. Everyone has something to offer here, and it helped me grow to feel comfortable on the wall *and* in the weight room.I’ve met people to climb with, lift with, adventure with, live with; you name it. Planet Granite is one of the best climbing gym franchises, and this is probably their best location. They offer everything for top rope and bouldering, with lots of heady lead climbing walls too. They have the standard two part belay test for top rope first, then lead climbing. Tallest wall gets over 40ft. The setters are great. They do leave grigris on the toprope ropes, but bring your own rope and belay device for leading.

Im happy with the setting, and the space is huge with a variety of climbs that you could never get tired of — but, woah, is it crowded. PG is a great gym with an awesome community and friendly staff. People here are generally courteous and have good etiquette. Yes, afternoons and early evenings are super busy, but that’s pretty normal for any gym. Mornings usually aren’t bad. Mixed review from me. Note: Been going here for a few years now.+ Usually theres at least a few really well-set climbs in the gym at any given time. They occasionally do really interesting climbs (recently set a volume challenge that was very fun).+ A good number of crack / chimneys.+ Walls themselves have enough interesting variation and features.+ Locker rooms are well-maintained and well-stocked, and offer showers and towels. Can always find a locker when I need it.- Typically extremely crowded on weekday evenings and weekends. I think they could improve this by adding memberships that only allow entry at certain times or charge a premium for peak demand entry.- While there are usually a good number of well-set climbs somewhere in the gym, the setting isnt consistently good. Often, climbs are just ladders of varying difficulty and dont make you really think too hard about it.- Rope maintenance/replacement is lacking. Most toprope ropes are very old, grimy, stiff, and generally painful to use. This could be improved by purchasing slightly thinner, more supple ropes, replacing or washing them more often, and especially not looping the rope around the anchor bar up top.

This is a really good climbing gym and Im happy to carry a year long membership at this location. Nice tall walls and a wide variety of routes and set styles. Ive been a member for 4 years and I may end my membership. 1. Overcrowded. 2. $100 a month! 3. Car break-ins and management doesnt care. 4. Not enough lockers. 5. No one cares about safety. How can this place charge $100 a month with the number of members they have? There are so many other climbing gyms in California that are cheaper and so much better. This place needs to seriously expand. The Peak Climbing gym in Fremont is only $57 a month and has a much better community feel to it, albeit, it doesnt have the amenities that Planet Granite does, but you dont have to worry about getting anything stolen or waiting a million years to get on a wall.

Planet Granite in Sunnyvale is one of the largest rock climbing gyms in the bay area. That means they have a lot of selection for different types of climbs. In some gyms, every climb is really difficult with maybe 2 or 3 for beginners because the difficult climbs are more popular. ATTENTION: please be aware that more than 1/3 of the climb site is not available!!!And the price is the same.Personally, this is not a fair deal. It is a fact that PG ticket is calculated based on its location and venue size. For example, SF is cheaper than Sunnyvale.Today when I was advising the staff that they should *consider* having a discounted price because so many climb walls are under construction and not available. He said it is NOT possible. Out of goodwills, I listed out my reasons why I think discount should be considered. However, he kept giving me “No”. Finally, I told him that I hope he can bring this up to the management team can discuss further.TBH, I expected them to *at least* tell me that they will consider this suggestion. But it seems like there is no room for discussion but a firm NO.To his fairness, he didn’t show that he was annoyed by me.I understand that PG charges more $$$ because it is in the Bay Area, but please do not be a bully.I used to love this place but not anymore. PG is too big and popular but is very insensitive to its climbers. Overpriced tickets, crowded space, etc.

Pros: Great routes, tall walls, plenty of lead, top rope, and bouldering climbing options. Staff does a terrible job of shutting the doors and windows even late into the evening in the winter. Gym was colder inside today than it was outside), poor top rope maintenance (Ive had to force the rope through the supplied belay devices with a 180 person on the other end), too crowded, insufficient parking, towels arent picked up in the locker room, and just too expensive to have such a long list of cons.

Ive been an on-and-off member for a couple years now, and Planet Granite has been a wonderful place to train. There are many walls with a wide range of types, heights, and skill levels. The staff has also been very plentiful and very helpful. In addition to the rock climbing, there is a wide assortment of other gym equipment, although I do not really take advantage of them. The price is a bit steep if you dont plan to visit at least 1-2 times per week though. If youre not sure about your commitment yet, try to find a member who can offer a free belay lesson (with remaining day pass) or purchase a day pass for yourself ($20). Absolutely hate this gym.Dirty, outdated facilities, staff that seem to do nothing all day (and play the worst music), way too crowded for bouldering (probably the same for sport climbing) such that you have to come in at 6AM to get some good climbing in (and even then its still crowded).Small bouldering area (and theres always some sort of crappy construction going on, making the bouldering area even smaller) and just a crappy place overall, definitely doesnt justify the cost of membership. Doesnt at all compare to other climbing gyms Ive been to in Seattle and San Francisco. Also the problem setting biases towards big moves and sketchy top-outs, so you wont be a balanced climber if you come here and youll probably get injured.Lots of parents ignorantly coming with their kids and letting them run rampant on the bouldering walls and climbing with their sneakers - the staff of course dont moderate this at all.Get it together!
