Just recently signed a lease with Continental after having lots of trouble finding a place to live for the upcoming school year. Shannon was amazing to work with. She was open and honest through the whole process and was very quick to answer any questions I had. She is the reason I was able to secure a great apartment.
Zero stars. In contract states will be notified 24 hours prior to entrance on home for non-emergency. Multiple times was notified less than 12 hours before entering home. No organization. Will charge tenant for damage that was in the move in sheet (noted) when moving out and not give back a fair amount of security deposit (less than 20%) of a full months rent. High priced rentals that are horrendous conditions. Rude service every time I called. Change to policies without contacting tenants, then blame tenant for misdoing. Does not remove snow by promised time. All around horrible experience.
This is the absolute worst real estate company to rent with. When we moved in the house was not cleaned and a window was broken, which they tried to charge us for a month later. The employees are clueless and it’s honestly amazing that the company is still afloat. If you are a college student DO NOT RENT HERE. Not only did they charge us $1000 for a missing fire alarm but we had to pay $4000 on top of our $7000 security deposit for minimum damages. They are scum bags that will rob you blind.
I worked with Shannon in securing my new rental unit. Shannon was very communicative and was constantly asking questions about my needs in finding a new property. She even took time outside of her working hours to make sure that me and my roommate were able to view our new unit at our convenience. On top of being professional, she was very down to earth and made it easy/comfortable to speak with. I highly recommend reaching out to her and Continental. This is our second rental unit with them and can rest easy knowing that everything has been taken care of. Thank you so much!!!!
Note: I have yet to physically move into my apartment.Im a graduate student moving to State College for the first time and have never been in PA, plus finding apartments in State College is a different beast. Luckily I was able to find a place through Continental. They were very helpful and quick to show me rooms that fit my criteria. Specifically, Shannon ONeal assisted me with finding a place and was knowledgeable and considerate of what I needed as a renter.
Almost every time I have called their offices they did not answer. It says they go on a lunch break from 12 - 1, but its more like 11 - 2. I also had a leak in my unit that I requested service for in the first week from moving in, and they finally sent out a technician the week I was moving out. They are unresponsive, and do the bare minimum at best. When you get a response they can be helpful, but the inconsistency and frustration during my time as a tenant was enough to make me look elsewhere for my next lease.
I worked with Shannon the Leasing Agent to find an apartment/townhouse after searching on my own for weeks. She was absolutely the best. She sent me a questionnaire to discover what was important to me & then showed me several properties over zoom. After we narrowed down the list she setup walk throughs until I found the perfect place. She’s honest, professional & reliable. Thank you Shannon!
If I could leave zero stars, I would. These guys care nothing more than to continually own more and more property, while putting none of the expected work in to make those properties worth living in, especially with such high rental rates in state college. Like a bad relationship, these guys are professionals at lack of communication. This has been the 4th time our water was cut, without no notice whatsoever.
My husband and I had been looking for a bigger place and werent having much luck, and then I saw some new postings on continental and one in particular really stood out to us. I contacted management to schedule a showing, and they were very quick to respond to my inquiries. I had someone reach out to me personally and squeeze me into her busy schedule so I could see the properties I was interested in. Once I chose the property that I wanted to apply for she was very prompt in sending me the application, and later the lease agreement! Shout out to Shannon, you made our experience fast and easy, and we are so excited about our new home! Thank you!!
I have rented a lot in past and this has been by far the worst experience. We were not allowed to tour the townhome due to Covid. Was promised the place would be cleaned, painted, pets were not allowed ever, non-smoking home and could get in early due to my masters program. We were not allowed in early because they were painted and cleaning the property. Ok that’s a little understandable as that’s what was in the contract and we were asking for a favor. Showed up on day one and the place was filthy, if they painted it was done by toddler and the place wreaked of cigarette smoke. When we notified continental, they did not seem surprised it was filthy, told us they never smelled smoke and were sending someone that day or the next to steam the carpet. No one has arrived. The smell hasn’t gone away (we are trying everything short of repainting the whole place). If you are considering renting from this company, I would strongly suggest reconsidering. If Continental is reading this we are still waiting for the cleaning crew to get here, the place still wreaks and a lawyer is reviewing our contract.
The leasing agent, Shannon, has been very professional and helpful during our apartment search, and graciously assisted our application, so we were able to lease the apartment that fits our needs smoothly.
I had a great time under this management. Maintenance always arrived quickly and was very friendly and helpful. The leasing staff was friendly and responded quickly as well.
I leased an apartment with Continental Real Estate and I am very satisfied with their work. They always answered fast and clarified every question I ever had.
I requested them to schedule a showing for an additional person to my lease that is to start next month. They straightaway refused and couldnt even share pictures. A virtual showing takes five minutes, I guess they only care until you sign the lease.
If I could do a 0 I would. I rented a house from them last year and am currently in the process of trying to get my security deposit back. To start, they are terrible at communicating with each other in the office. Since the start, Ive experienced so much confusion and frustration because I was always talking to someone new. It was always better to go to the office in-person to get a resolution. Now that my lease is over and I have left town, its been impossible to receive clear communication in regards to my security deposit refund. They unfairly took about $500 from our deposit due to keys not being returned (which they all were and that was documented in their rental portal) along with cleaning fees (the house was filthy when we moved in and we left it cleaner than we received it) and they charged us for damages we documented in our move-in sheet. Since these were unfair, we disputed these charges. Now its a month later and I am still trying to get our money back because they didnt check the portal without issuing these charges. Ive had calls with Marysa where there was nothing but attitude because she is the only one doing refunds. There is no excuse as to why they didnt check their OWN records before deducting so much money from our deposits. It shows how greedy they are even though they always use the terms in good faith when handling these disputes. I finally received a response today about our dispute and it wasnt even for the right property so we are now a month past the date we received a portion of our deposit... They sent out deposits right before they were legally bound to do to just deal with all the unfair charges in the disputes process AFTER THE FACT. Do not rent from them if you want your deposit back. There are plenty of other more transparent and competent rental companies in State College.
If I could give them 0 stars, I would. They manage our HOA and theyre supposed to take care of snow removal in our sidewalks. Well, we (the neighbors) had to do it ourselves to take out our cars. When I emailed them, they told me it was a big storm. Well, everybody knew a big storm was coming, they should have been prepared for it. And if theyre understaffed, they should hire more people. Were throwing money at them for nothing. The little grass we have in our complex is in terrible condition, too.
I just wanted to give a brief kudos to the staff of Continental Real Estate. I have been a tenant for almost two years and could not be happier with my relationship with my lessor.Maintenance has always been prompt, Catie and Shannon in the office have only been too helpful, Im happy with my rent/location etc.I wanted to especially cite Marysa, however. I had an issue with a miscommunication/overcharge in the security deposit of my first apartment and Marysa was only too kind and accommodating in resolving the issue in a satisfactory manner. Thank you, Marysa!
If I could leave zero stars I would. This company robbed most of my security deposit, charged expenses for damages to my account that did not exist prior to me leaving due to covid, charged me for a cleaning fee when I cleaned the apartment twice top down before and after covid started when I visited to drop off my key, and they did not offer any rent relief to any of the residents due to coronavirus. I would avoid this place at all cost (especially the Park Ave location) there are plenty better options in state college where you will be respected and your money will be valued. Now I am a masters student at Penn State and I am enjoying a way nicer and larger apartment for way less off campus. Dont learn the hard way with these thieves who are robbing hard working college kids who already have big financial burdens from college to deal with.
Never disclosed to my roommate and I that our heat does not work properly and there is no way for them to fix it and offered a space heater, which is a fire hazard. Never got back to me about the issue and also is unresponsive to every concern/question my roommate and I have. Also the rent does not add up because we were not allowed to move until Aug 18th, but still had to pay full August rent??????? tell me they arent scamming college students.
Just a terrible company all the way around. They recently bought Lions Gate Apartments, a complex we were extremely happy with until they took over. This past snow storm which stopped at 6am, our lot wasnt plowed until 10AM and sidewalks left un-shoveled until 7pm. Terrible communication at the office after my roommate tried reaching out about pest control. They emailed us about a refund which we never received. Cant imagine the nightmare moving out is going to be.
Shannon is very communicative and friendly.
Even in times like this, the leasing staff, Catie specifically, had been extremely helpful and done everything they could to make moving as easy as possible. Highly recommend. Maintenance is quick and responsive as well
I have had maintenance requests in for over a month. They have tried to get me to pay for them even though these problems have been there before I arrived at my house. They will not respond to anything and are always looking for little ways to charge you so they make more money. They know college kids are easier to take advantage of, and that people will still need to live in these houses because they are far from home. If you can, steer clear of continental.
An absolutely pathetic company. They are criminals - my roommate and I were charged for damage that was done to the house prior to us moving in. We had photo evidence of all of the damage and requested a member of CREM staff do a walk-through of the house prior to moving in. CREM ignored that request.During our residency, our dryer did not function properly for over 3 months. Our front door did not lock correctly and our air conditioning unit did not work correctly. All three issues took over 3 months to be resolved. The temperature in our house was consistently over 85 degrees, yet they felt it was okay to continue charging us full price rent even though we were paying items that did not work.Staff is so unresponsive and rude. Multiple maintenance requests get ignored. They are scam artists. Stay away from renting from this company.
Horrible management. They will overcharge you for maintenance. They screwed over the landlord and tenants in our contract, we all ended up in court trying to resolve the mismanagement. Go with someone else, or spend weeks and lots of money trying to deal with them.
I had a wonderful experience looking at properties with Continental. The realtor who worked with me (Donny) was fantastic. He was very upfront about all of the properties, incredibly knowledgeable about the area, and always made himself available for showings or questions. I never once felt like I was being pressured into anything and he answered all of my questions very honestly. I really got the sense that he wanted to match the right person with the right property so that both the landlord and tenants would be happy. I started my housing search a little late and their places fill up quickly so I wasnt able to find a place that worked for me. But I had a wonderful experience. I looked at properties with different real estate management companies and I had the best experience with Continental. Thank you again Donny.
I wanted to take the time to share my experience. Continental and all of its people were extremely professional, kind, responsive and great in all of the aspects. They were answering our calls and emails right away, they were always open for us to stop by and ask them questions, and they fixed everything that broke in the apartments right away. They were easy going when we transfer our lease to some other people, and they did not try to take money from us. We rented from them during 3 years and we had plenty of opportunities for the to disappoint (several things to fix and replace) and they never did. Before us, some friends lived in the same house and their experience was phenomenal as well. They were amazing. I will rent from them again if I have the chance to go back to State College.
The worst property manager Ive rented from. I moved out from a house under their management last July, and I am still struggling to get my security deposit back (2 months and a half later, will likely be 3 months since theres no sign when I will receive my check). They charged me for damages that were there before moving in which I documented in the move-in inspection report. The house was dirty when we moved in (there was lots of hair stuck in bathroom doors, and carpet was a mess) yet they said they had to do extra cleaning after I moved out, despite me hiring a professional cleaner (not for carpet). They took $1,000+ from my deposit! They have a bad reputation about security deposit charges (google: State College company agrees to restitution, penalties amid security deposit claims). Do not let them take your money! I disputed the charges and they agreed to give me an extra refund (which is still unfair but they refused to process any additional disputes). It took three months to get SOME of my money back (well, I haven’t received it yet, still waiting and don’t know about the refund status yet). So, international students who will leave the country after finishing school say goodbye to your money! They are the worst at communication. I need a simple answer about the status of my refund (two weeks have gone by and don’t have a clue when or if i will get it). Emails take weeks to get a response IF you get a response. Going to office in person or calling is useless too, every time I go or call they give me vague answers or silly excuses, and leave even more confused and frustrated.
Continental was extremely helpful in helping me find someone to take my lease for me. The employees worked with me for about two months and really took the initiative to help. While living at Continental, I had two maintenance requests fixed that day. Great experience and Id recommend this group to anyone!
Great experience renting from them! The realtor Donny and Chris are really nice and responsive. Donny seems very knowledgeable and experience. When we had issues, the maintenance team have always acted on time. Our dogs enjoyed their visits.
This is THE WORST leasing company I have ever rented an apartment from. They are EXTREMELY impolite, hang up phone on you, do not answer phone, take a large fraction of your deposit without ANY legitimate reason. There were too many issues to mention here. I am VERY FRUSTRATED with this company in State College.
This is the worst real estate I have ever seen. It has rude staff who scam especially the international students. Please stay away from them.
Turned out very rude after they claimed the unit was taken and had been very inpatient. I’d probably will take a look at the other vacancies but not anymore in this case. I think the image speaks for itself, not worth to do business with.
We are dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and they have not been able to provide us with a lower rate or much assistance. Although they did wave late fees for April they need to be doing more to help the people who have absolutely no income coming in. Also, there have been birds living in our apartments air conditioner for months now and nothing has been done.
This place is a mess. When I first moved in to College Park, my apartment did not have any desks at all in the bedroom AND the place was absolutely filthy. It clearly had not been professionally cleaned prior to move in; there was a layer of scum on the kitchen floor/appliances and the bathroom had grime and urine on the floor. There was also mold on the ceiling. The worst part is the COCKROACHES. Ive had to call five times to get this taken care of. Its just absurd. I had to put so much work into cleaning the place to make it even live-able. The only thing they cleaned were the carpets. DO NOT recommend living here or renting with continental.
TLDR; Rented for years and never had a problem. I rented a house for a few years from them. Nothing really to complain about, no major issues at all. In fact, I broke the lease and they were actually helpful when they are not required to be. I can’t say the same for the actual house owner (not their fault), not the person who took over the lease. Word of advice, hold your keys hostage until you get full payment for the deposit from the person who takes your lease over if you break it!
Scott and his staff were extremely helpful. They really went out of their way to make sure that things were done correctly.Scott was very professional and knowledgeable about our needs.Much appreciated!!
Always friendly when i call. During transition when got new roommates they helped me with bills, house, any problem, before and after loss of the house in a fire i had. I would never go to any other rental. Dedication of the team shows they dont do this just for the money. I truly feel can come in or call anytime even if it is a hi. Truly keep up the work!
Terrible terrible terrible company.1. Unresponsive2. Opposite of helpful3. Looking to take money from college students4. Charge you for stupid stuff5. Awful customer service6. Never answer the phone7. Close the office in the middle of the day for lunchThis is just the beginning. Stay away from this company. I could go on and on.
This is my realtor and they have always been absolutely wonderful. They try their best to accommodate any requests promptly and their customer service is quite refreshing. This is my 3rd year with Continental Real Estate ando plan to do business with them for many more
DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY. If I could give them less than 1 star I would. This is by far the worst property management company Ive ever had the misfortune of working with. They were completely unhelpful while I was living in a property they managed when things went wrong and attempted to cut corners every chance they got. After I moved out they tried to steal the money in my security deposit by claiming we didnt replace batteries in smoke alarms when we did in addition to MANY other things. I cannot recommend that you go elsewhere for accommodations highly enough. Avoid Continental at all costs.
My husband and I lived in a townhouse managed by CREM for two years (moved out July 2019). Prior to moving to State College, Donny was a professional and knowledgeable leasing manager who helped us identify our needs and preferences for homes.During our two years in State College, we had two primary issues with CREM: (1) They were slow to address some of our maintenance concerns (i.e. cracked window in master bedroom, growing water stain in second bedroom that was left unaddressed in the last few months of our stay), and (2) When showing the property to potential renters, they would either fail to give 24+ hours notice of a scheduled showing as promised or fail to show up after scheduling a showing (a problem for this night-shifter who often slept during business hours). On the positive side, the maintenance staff that we occasionally interacted with were very courteous. The one time we had an emergency maintenance issue (a significant leak in the main hose coming off of the water heater), the issue was addressed within an hour of our call.Although we cant compare our experience with CREM to other leasing companies in the area (we only lived in State College for the two years described above), we were overall rather disappointed with Continental Real Estate Managements service.
Continental Real Estate a lawsuit waiting to happen. Their services have been horrible starting day one! You ask why? First off, right from our move in inspection, we noted that the apartment was unclean and the carpets were absolutely filthy. We requested that they clean them before we move in, but the office said they were too busy with other move ins at the time. So are we not customers that their office is supposedly busy with? We refused to move in for 3 days and finally had to give in, because we didnt have another place to go. Why were we not reimbursed for the first 3 days.Yet another happened a few weeks ago - our roof started leaking with a constant stream of water right in our living room. It ruined our bookshelf and the many books that lay on it. We spent hours cleaning that mess and moving the shelf away. This qualified as a maintenance emergency but took 5 days - FIVE Days to respond and attempt to fix the leaking roof. All we got was a bucket sitting in the middle of our living room that we were expected to change at 2am and 3am as it filled up. Whats even worse is that the attempted fix did not work and the room started leaking again which is when we personally came to the office to report this, only got absurd responses like its life, these things happen, we cannot guarantee these would be fixed and oh theyre going to redo the roof later this summer! How the hell would that help!! Again, nothing to remedy the frustration that we went through.Yet another one is the most recent one - the water heater in the building broke. So now we cannot have anything other than ice cold showers and dirty dishes since the dishwasher does not work without hot water! Its the sixth day today, they must be going for a record of sorts for the worst possible time to get this fixed! So tell us now why should we pay to live here?
LOVE how they get tenants to lock themselves into the next years lease after being in their current year lease less than 90 days! They required a guarentors note for the current year, but miraculously doesnt need one for next year! Maybe, the guarentors note legally binds them FOR LIFE, without ever having to renew the assurance of payment. Not 90 days into a lease, and the explanation is the high demand for rental units for next year. High demand...At the Allen Park Apartments? There were vacant units ALL year long, friends, but the demand from young college kids are so high, new student renters need to double-lease in less than 90 days after moving in on their FIRST lease! Super easy for them to get their current $300 fee for removing yourself off the lease. Every landlord and rental agency in Pennsylvania should use this trick!
The staff was always very helpful. Whenever there was a maintenance issue they always dispatched the maintenance department promptly. We leased from continental for 2 years and didnt have any problems throughout the stay.
This establishment is very accommodating and friendly. They will help you find the exact living quarters desired. Great staff and prompt service.
Complete criminals, more interested in making a cheap buck than providing a decent service for their tenants. Rarely does the incompetent staff have the answers to help us with the many problems with our unit. I highly recommend literally ANY other real estate service.
Asked them to send a mortgage lender a VOR. Told them we needed it ASAP and if they could send it back same day. They said yes. Didnt happen.
Ive rented with this company almost 5 years, always a high level of professionalism. all maintenance requests handled in a timely manner. apartments very clean every time I move in. Great company if youre a parent worried about your child having a great and safe college experience
I wish google has a negative rating system so that I can give this real estate a negative 5 star or so. Definitely the worst real estate in SC. Most of the staffs were rude and impatient and, not just on international students, this real estate manipulated and bullied every students and tenants who was not familiar with tenement rules. And they always do the best to cut your deposit.
Continental Real Estate Mgmt, Inc. managed our property from 2012 till we sold the house in May 2016. They were wonderful from day one. Did not have to worry about anything. We sat in California and just collected the rent.In 2015 we had a water leak in the house and even then all was managed so well including claims from Insurance payments to whatever was the scope of work done. The work on the leak started the morning that they found out about it. Even our renter was so happy with the way they maintain the house that he ended up buying the house.Truly professional company here.Thank you!!!!
The worst real estate ever! They are not only bullying international student! But also bullying those who don’t understand rules, agreement, or contract! And they use fake comment to improve their rates!
Ive rented from both the apartment store and continental real estate. You will have a much better experience with the apartment store. You can expect to get less than half your deposit back from continental even if you keep the apartment in the same condition. 15% administration at the very least.
We rented a house from these liars but we did not know that they are this kind of people. even though we made professional cleaning, they charged us for cleaning $200. all the blinds were in perfect shape except one and they charged us $110 for one blind!! Please, if you want a stress free life and talk to people who are honest, DO NOT RENT FROM CONTINENTAL REAL ESTATE liar company!!
Dont expect to get your security deposit back, they charged $670 for move out cleaning even though we spent days making it spotless. Also expect to be charged for everything that was broken when you moved in. Maintence requests usually take weeks for a response.
Terrible experience. Poorly trained leasing agent who was extremely unprofessional. Changed the lease date on an apartment AFTER we had already applied for it. Would never rent from these people.
They will use any methods they possibly can to steal money from tenants with frivolous maintenance work and overcharging for cleaning fees in order to keep security deposits!
My daughter rented a Continental property. We found the entire staff to be very professional and responsive. Continental offers 24 hour emergency maintenance who helped my daughter with an issue at midnight on the weekend. The management team went out of their way to make my daughter comfortable. I would highly recommend Continental Real Estate for student housing at Penn State.
These guys are schysters. DO NOT lease from them. We moved into a house that was in poor condition and upon moving out they charged us $5,314.22 for repairs on their house that were already damaged when we moved in.The house was not structurally sound. The kitchen and living room floor was caving in. You could see the kitchen through gaps in the flooring upstairs. Sounds like a lawsuit to me.The windows weren’t sealed properly and the insulation was non existent. Our heating bills ended up being around $300 a month in the winter. When it rained outside it also rained inside on the back porch. The place was festered with mold. They use every opportunity they can to scheme money out of naive college kids and provide barely habitable living conditions.
My experience with CREM has been disappointing to say the least.First we were promised a renovated unit before we moved in and turns out they didnt even renovate our unit. When I reached out the employee told me that our unit will be the first to be renovated during round 2 renovations and when asked about round 2, they didnt know if there would be an even round 2. (Completely bs.ing the customer)Second all the furniture is absolutely trash, we have been asking for maintenance now for a month and no one has even bothered to show up.Third, every single time I went to the office to request something the staff acted nonchalantly and I had to return to the office multiple times because they didnt take notes of what I was requesting. Phone calls are also unreliable. Finally, more of a security issue, we wanted to add a tenant to the lease. The online platform they use-or the employees added the person to the lease with one random email. The other tenants that already signed didnt have a chance to confirm it was the correct person (in our case it was but they didnt double check with us which is a big security leak)I wish I could have left a good review, I really do, after all its the place Im living. But CREM isnt even doing the least with my case.
Ive leased with Continental for the past 2 years. For the most part, they address maintenance issues within a few days and the maintenance staff is always nice. The front office people are nice too. The biggest negative is the inability to pay rent online and having to go to the office or mail it in, which seems pretty out of date. The office hours can be annoying because they close the office from 12-1 every day. There have also been times when I called the office multiple times during normal business hours with no response, which seems unprofessional. Overall, its a fine realty office and is probably about the same as the other offices in State College.
There is a lot of communication gap and they are unprofessional. It takes multiple emails and visit just to get a single thing done. They dont know sometimes what notice they have sent you.
Worst rental company I have ever dealt with. When I moved in there was water damage that took two months to fix. The solution was to tear down the water damaged wall and then just put up new plywood. The source of the leak was never found or even looked for. Every time I tried to talk with them I am forced to deal with rude and belligerent staff.Halfway through my lease my unit was sold to a new owner. I was never informed of this. When I expressed my frustration that they were trying to change the terms of my lease I was just told, Look, I dont have time for you. Ill get back to you.I know its a sellers market when it comes to rentals here in State College, but this company behaves as if they were the ONLY game in town. Do yourself a favor and do business with a company that cares enough about its reputation to at least try and provide courteous customer service.
My husband and I moved to the State College area last fall. We have rented for almost a year through Continental Real Estate. They have been great. Our place was very clean (maybe the cleanest place I have moved into!). Every time that we have had a problem, they have been quick to fix whatever the problem was. I would definitely recommend using Continental!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. They deserve a negative rating. They are disorganized and terrible at communicating, then penalize you when they should be compensating you. WORST REALTOR IN STATE COLLEGE. They wrote our security deposit out on one single check with all my roommates names on it, making it IMPOSSIBLE to cash. We all live in different areas and use different banks. They are stupid, inconsiderate, and terrible to deal with. AVOID AVOID AVOID
Of approximately 14 employees that I conversed with throughout the year I was on a continental lease, only four were kind and articulate. Two of those people were maintenance employees, one receptionist, and one person was a general manager. While these select four people were kind, this is something I expect from every business I deal with. The other ten employees were rude and did their best to avoid assisting me or being helpful in any way. On one occasion, an employee saw me approaching and he turned to his coworker and said “good luck!” while patting the man on his back and proceeding to hide in the back offices. While I understand that I didn’t have a fantastic roommate for him to deal with, it was extremely unprofessional to see this occur. Throughout the year many unfortunate situations transpired. My dishwasher broke down four times and flooded my kitchen twice. The pipes under the kitchen sink connected to the garbage disposal were apparently broken or installed incorrectly and took three maintenance visits for the problem to be solved. This issue also cause a wretched smell to emanate in the apartment for nearly two weeks. Another of many problems is that the only elevator in the building consistently broke over the year and was eventually closed down to be replaced during the summer. While this is understandable, it took almost TEN weeks for the elevator to be fixed including the end of my lease. The replacement took this long because Continental chose to fix it themselves instead of hiring a company that can fix it in a much timelier manner. This means that I lugged all of my belongings down flights among flights of stairs since I lived on one of the top floors. Lastly, I have finally received my security deposit back and have been charged for several products or services. One of which included carpet cleaning, which is extremely difficult to find a company willing to carry their equipment up to the seven floor of a building with no working elevator. I plan to speak with the agency once again to discuss service fees from my security deposit. This real estate agency mostly cares about themselves and will do anything they can to get the cheaper deal. I highly recommend that you choose a different real estate agency because several of my associates have had even worse experiences with this company than I have had.
My daughter took a sublet from a prior renter at one of their apartments. The carpet was absolutely disgusting from the prior renter and the agency would not replace it. I even offered to pay for the replacement and they did not allow it. We cleaned the carpet ourselves and then had the carpet professionally cleaned but it was just too stained. Now that the rental is over the management had the audacity to charge US for the carpet even though there were definitive records of contact with their staff. Appalling... use at your own risk but dont be surprised when your deposit is stolen from you at the end of your rent term.
If I could give 0 stars I would. Staff is rude, made us sign a 14 month lease just to get all of their properties on the same schedule, even though we were told we could sign a 12 month lease when we viewed the property. Not worth it. Took over a week to fix something as simple as weather stripping on a front door. We were forced to move at 12 months due to a job opportunity, and could not end the lease without penalties. In the end we were forced to pay over 5 grand in fees and rent. They also have no friendly methods of payment; cash or check in person or mailed. More recently, they have been threatening to seize our guarantors assets in every correspondence due to payments being sent by snail mail. If you chose to do business with this company, be ready.
These guys got it going on!
When we moved in, the house was very dirty. The carpet was not clean, had green spots and smelt bad. The walls were not painted. Restrooms were very very dirty. We asked them to clean them and they did not. They told me to clean it myself. In addition they requested that I pay rent of two months ahead beside the security deposit and the rent of the first month.
Professional Office. They have units ranging from student to family level. If you need to find a rental in the State College area I recommend stopping in to see these guys.
Now I see why this management Team has such horrible reviews. I scheduled an appt to see an apartment and I expressed my concern for moving into a dirty apartment from past tenants, and from the horror stories that Ive been reading about their management team in these reviews. and they said they could show me the exact unit of be living in. Got there a little less then 30 min of my scheduled time, and even though the tenant of that apartment was scheduled a day in advance of the showing, for some strange reason the apartment wasnt ready by then. Hm. Strange. Went to the apartment complex and the building was so old and deterioritating. The sample apartment they showed was just sad. It was dirty and gross. Not even their sample apartment was be kept clean and organized. They didnt even try. I thank my lucky stars that I didnt lease with this company. I really dodged a bullet there.
This company does not really deserve a 1 star.Issues:UnprofessionalismLack of response to correspondencePoor response rate to calls for service. The water coming out of my kitchen sink was completely white when I moved in. I called their hotline and got a response and they said they would send someone out. Nope. Never happened.I was charged 45$ for a payment kick back but they didnt show me proof that the payment kick back was my fault.I have emailed their leasing department hundreds of times with no response for 3-5 weeks.I spoke to a woman who was very inept at customer service and got sarcastic and snuddy with me.The only reason why I would rent from them is because the actual owner of the property is very responsive unlike CREM.
I cant thank you enough for helping me move into my new apartment. I really appreciated Scott helping us. I know you guys are extremely busy, and i just wanted to say thank you for your time
I want to thank John and the staff of Continental Realty for the excellent management of Woods Edge. My wife and I purchased unit 2095 in May of 1994, as a second home. I was impressed that the association and Continental Realty was able to build a healthy capital reserve to finance the inevitable future needs for an assortment of capital improvements. It can be difficult to persuade homeowners to vote to increase their condo fees based on potential future liabilities. But bankers and lenders do check the condition of the condo associations finances when making decisions whether or not to grant a mortgage to a willing buyer. Eventually, most unit owners will become a seller and concerned with the condition and value of the development. We witnessed the inevitable re-roofing projects, new sidings, the various deck rehabilitations and expansions, the remediations to the carports and re-pavings of the Mary Ellen Land and the tributary streets. I dont mean to ignore or omit the aesthetics and maintenance work performed as they do add to value and tend to instill pride in the development. My wife and I bough #2095 for 52,500 in 1994, and sold for 133,000 in 2011. When the housing bubble burst in late 2008, I was afraid the resale value would be very depressed. I was pleased that the unit kept a relatively good value. The continued maintenance and ability to finance necessary property improvements in Woods Edge is due, in my estimation, to the able management team at Continental Realty and the Woods Edge Association. Thank you, again.
Parents of Penn State Students- Avoid at all costs renting properties operated by this management team. They will do everything in their power to charge your college student for any kind of service or repairs that come up!! From repairs, to removing old tenants moldy couches (and not telling us we would be charged for this and just sending us a bill)! Charging us for removing trash around their building that wasnt even ours!! And we picked up Tons of maggot infested trash all along the property on move in day for them---gross!!!!!!We moved in our daughter into this run down, dirty basement apartment on W Nittany Ave. and for an entire year we had nothing but plumbing issues, lock issues, rodent infestation issues! (of course we had not seen the place prior to her moving in because she told us it would be fine) so parents please dont make the same mistake we did. Go see where your child plans to live before You agree to pay their rent! When you call Continental Real Estate to discuss any issue at hand you are put on a list according to how bad they think your problem is- and go from there. Then if there is a way they can charge you for any part of their service they do!And the manager will be downright NASTY to boot! I phoned a few times to reasonably discuss various problems and/or bogus charges we were having/receiving with the apartment and we were treated very rudely. At one point we had to call the PA Health Dept out to the premises. They were cited for black mold and given 48 hour to erradicate the issue. When the apt above my daughters had a toilet leak all through the ceiling a restoration co had to be called into my daughters apt for clean up. They ran all kinds of equipment and fans on my daughters electric bill with no reimbursement for the electric they used and we paid for.Dust and debris was everywhere and they moved all her furniture into the kitchen so she could not even cook a meal. When I phoned their office they were nasty and rude and couldnt care less. They offered no reduction in the rent although my daughter could not stay in her apt for days.Rodents infested the walls and at night my daughter could hear them scurrying all about. Although a company was sent to try to exterminate they had no luck in getting rid of the pests and basically told us we have to live with it!!Finally, they do everything in their power to NOT give back the total security deposit! Even though my daughter totally cleaned the apt they charged us for cleaning it again....replacing Doors that hadnt worked since we moved in- charging us for it-amongst many other bogus items.Out of over $1,000 in security we are getting back $300. And even though my daughters lease ended in early August we still havent see the return. So Buyer Beware. This is by far the worst management company I have ever worked with. We did retain an attorney to fight some of the ridiculous charges and to seek a refund on some of the rent -but in the end decided it wasnt worth the aggravation. Hence my rant here!
For the past two weeks, I have been trying to get a parking spot with several different real estate companies downtown, each one was unorganized, didnt know how many spots they had left and wouldnt call back. Continental Real Estates website was up to date with the parking spaces and immediately gave me my parking pass when I went in. Im very happy with their service !! :)
Not the best but not the worst in state college. Didn’t have problems with them during leasing but took money from my security deposit for things that only had normal wear and tear, or weren’t listed as tenants responsibility in the lease agreement and refused to change these charges when questioned.
A big thank you to the maintenance crew. Just a short not to register my up-most appreciation for your maintenance. God bless you all. Thank you very much.
Thank you very much for my great experience at the Ambassador Building. I have graduated, but with your help these past few years were some of the best in my life.
Scott and company are great they helped my find a fantastic apartment in my price range. Any time Ive needed help or maintenance it has been quick and timely.
Phone consultants are RUDE and impatient. But maintenance service has improved over the years.
Very accommodating to requests. Came and fixed any and all problems quickly and professionally. Not one negative experience had.
What can I say. The Hannas know how to take care of their tenants. 5 stars
If I could give 0 stars I would, but alas, that isnt an option on here. First and foremost, the leasing agent didnt even introduce himself; that alone should speak for the caliber of company. They were rude and above all unprofessional! We had an appointment to see a home, we asked if it was rented before our appointment to please call us . So when we showed up to our appointment we were told the place was rented. The leasing agent, if that is even an appropriate title to call him, felt we werent worth his time and scoffed at our request for what we were looking for in a home. Its disheartening because we a a professional family seeking a home in a very exclusive college-town market. The agent basically laughed when we expressed that we didnt wish to spend over 2k a month in rent, that we had a budget to adhere to and we wanted certain amenities that certainly wouldnt be out of the realm of possibility with the budget we had.
I wouldnt even give this realty company a single star but I had to in order to post this review. Very unprofessional and gives poor maintenance service. My fridge seal has been out of place for months and it was never fixed after I constantly called and complained about. The stove tops are broken and the front right side doesnt head up in my unit. Theyre a bunch of crooks who are lucky I dont have time to sue them. I cant wait to move out of here not do business with them ever again.
We moved into our place with a non-functional toilet which theyve know about for weeks prior. Its now been over a month since we moved in and its still not been fixed regardless of my persistent emails to them.
I have been staying at Southgate apartments for the last four years now, and moved to my third apartment with them this August. I stayed at my last apartment for 2 years and got all my deposit back. Their maintenance team is very responsive.
An incredibly professional and knowledgeable group of professionals lead by John Hanna who is one of the most knowledgeable property management and real estate executives in the industry. We very highly recommend this group for any real estate needs.
I lived in a property managed by Continental for two years and they were always great. They were easy to talk to, always fixed anything that needed it, and were very helpful and easy to work with when I needed help getting out of my lease early.
They are a company who will do anything in the world to try to rip you off. They will find a loop hole in any of their contracts or leases to make you have to pay for it. They do half the work they should to keep the properties looking nice but will charge an arm and a leg in order to find a way to make you pay some how. This is a horrible company and you should try to find somewhere else to live if you can... if you want you can probably find a bench in state college and find a cheaper and better place to live then these apartments. Horrible company. Dont live here!
Worst real estate company!!!. They manipulate and bully international students who dont know better. bathrooms are disgusting and buildings are very old. Windows wont seal. Furniture ia not like in the pictures. Maintenance takes forever.
This company does not put priority on tenant complaints or how well their maintenance people do their jobs. They will claim, on the lease, there is a washer and dryer in your facility but there may or may not actually be one. You pay more for people to come clean the common areas ONCE a month but they will leave the floors, toilets, and showers as dirty as they were before they cleaned. In my house, they took a month and a half to finish renovating our shower and would let drywall and other dirt get onto our shower stuff, caulking on my sponge and loofa, and left all their tools, materials, and dirt behind. Anytime I have made a complaint about the lack of cleanliness (when I moved in and after the cleaning people are supposed to have cleaned) or the heat not working (they dont even know where the thermostat is for me to change it), or the mouse infested couch that has been there for years to be removed from the porch, they do not comply or take care of the issue. The people in the office are kind and seem like they mean well, but it appears that the company as a whole doesnt respect their tenants wishes or well-begin. I understand this is a college town, but not every college student is a disrespectful, careless derelict and I dont like to be regarded as one.
Management is fine. They just try everything to suck your money. If you really dont care money, their service is fine. Otherwise, stay away from them
Took $1450 of our security deposit for cleaning. I highly doubt it was ever cleaned considering the place was dirty on our move in with dust, ash around the fireplace, food stains, ect and was never cleaned despite complaining about the state of the house. Also liked to levy fines against us for our neighbors trash which they acknowledged was our neighbors every time I spoke to them. I wouldnt recommend renting from this company to my worst enemy.
Please do not use continental real estate. They are an irresponsible, childish group of greedy imbeciles who will not hold up their end of the contract. I purchased an (expectedly) overpriced parking permit at one of their buildings, College Park. However, they evicted me from the parking lot for over a month with no reimbursement, and when this decision was questioned, I was met with rudeness and insults from the staff who answered my call. Additionally, today my roommate was doing laundry, and his clothes were literally burned by one of the dryers, completely ruining his clothes. When he called continental, they refused to take any responsibility for this occurrence and decided to ignore the prominent fire hazard presented by this issue. This proves that continental would rather put their tenants in genuine danger than admit to any mistake. Please, FOR YOUR SAFETY, do not rent under Continental Real Estate. They do not care about contracts, they do not care about safety, and they do not care about human decency. They are a corporate slime ball that will do whatever they can to take as much money as they can from you and screw you over to the best of their ability.
Worst company ive ever dealt with, save your time & money and go elsewhere
Neglectful and deceitful landlords. I rented from Continental for a long time before I finally got fed up. Property was not well maintained at all, and they were VERY slow to respond to any non-emergency concerns or problems. The only good thing I can say about them is that major issues (like a leaky roof and a flooded basement) were dealt with quickly. Anything else (like my boarded-up garage or fallen privacy fence) was either ignored completely or fixed haphazardly, and only after repeated calls to maintenance. They showed us the property with a working garage, then boarded it up before we moved in and refused to take any money off the rent. In fact, they jacked up the rent nearly $100 when it was time to renew the lease. Also, as the other reviewers have mentioned, they are determined to take a large portion of your security deposit when you move out. My housemate and I cleaned *exhaustively* and were still charged nearly half our deposit, including ridiculous fees like $30 to change a lightbulb that had gone out after we left. Save yourself the stress and avoid Continental if you can.
During my senior year at Penn State I rented a house with a few friends initially through different landlords. In October Continental took over the property and all communication was to be through them. Luckily, before moving out we did not have any issues in which we needed to contact Continental Real Estate. However, I was moving out before the lease ended and I wanted to get in touch with someone to be sure I was performing the proper move out procedure i.e. returning keys, getting any carpet cleaning that needed to be done, etc. After about a dozen calls, four voicemails, and two emails later I never heard back. Another roommate also called, left voicemails, and emails to get in touch with them to get her portion of the security deposit back. Yet again, no response. No communication whatsoever. Not sure how you are able to run a successful business when you dont respond to your tenants. Very unprofessional. If you can avoid renting from them I would.
My experience has been good. The staff answers all of my questions and any repairs in need in my unit are promptly repaired.
