This company refused to refund our deposit. The apartment was left in perfect condition, and they actually took a video to prove it. We dealt with Karlee, who has horrendous personal skills and should not be working with clients. When asked for proof for the $400 they charged us, she had none. No pictures or anything. But had no problem being rude and ignorant. They just make up charges. Absolutely ridiculous! Watch out you WILL be screwed by this awful company.
I lived in Nittany Gardens at Waupelani Drive. My experience was positive... the apartment was neat and spacious and the office staff were always friendly. And the maintenance men were seriously the friendliest people ever.Overall a nice, quiet living experience. Its a cheap way to live if you dont mind living far off campus. I rode my bike to campus and also had a car as a backup. Bus route was also available.EDIT: UPDATE. JUST GOT BACK MY SECURITY DEPOSIT. I CLEANED MY APARTMENT VERY WELL YET THEY CHARGED HUNDREDS IN CLEANING FEES. DO NOT EXPECT TO GET BACK YOUR SECURITY DEPOSIT. SAD!
Be prepared to be nickeled and dimed at this place. In order to switch apartments at the end of my lease period I am being required to pay an entire new deposit while they hold my other one in an escrow account they are earning money on for four months instead of transferring the deposit to the new apartment.
Do not spend your money here, look somewhere else for an apartment! I lived at the Carlton for two years and definitely would not recommend!During the tour, they told us that electric would never be over $70 combined and my roommate and I ended up paying $100 EACH most months with moderate electricity usage. A $200 electricity bill for the month of March (when neither of us were living there, everything was unplugged, and central air turned off) leads me to believe they split up the total electricity bill for the whole building. The water was shut off for maintenance at least a couple times a month. The laundry machines were constantly breaking and not repaired until weeks later. At one point there was only one working washer and dryer for all four floors. They took off over $200 from our security deposit for minor maintenance (new toilet seat which was already broken when we got there, plunger left in the bathroom, two lightbulbs and carpet cleaning and the carpet had minor stains originally). We had to clean the apartment when we first moved in because nothing had been properly cleaned. There were grease stains in the kitchen, the tile floor was partially broken, and nothing had been vacuumed or swept. If you’re looking at apartment store properties, PLEASE reconsider!!
Terrible apartment: drafty windows, peeling paint, gaping flooring. The maintenance people want access all the time, for apparently no reason whatsoever and when you call the office you get nowhere because the local people here dont have anything to say. Painters left the door unlatched for who knows how many days now. Do yourself a favor and rent anywhere else!
I lived at Collegiate Arms for 2019-2020. I wasnt able to tour my apartment before moving in, so I called The Apartment Store with a few questions. I asked if the apartment had a dishwasher, and the guy said yes every unit has one. When I moved in, there was no dishwasher in my apartment or any other unit. When I was trying to get parking the summer before moving in, the guy on the phone told me I had to pay for it in person (I found out later that he was wrong, and you can just send in a check). I asked if parking would still be available if I came a week before move-in, and he said absolutely. When I got there, there were no parking spots left for the semester.I have had good interactions with many of the other people working at The Apartment Store though. Regarding Collegiate Arms, you get what you pay for.Pros: all utilities included except cable, nice sized rooms, lots of dresser/closet space for storage, pretty convenient and quiet location, low rentCons: outdated units, weirdly small parking spaces make it difficult to park most of the time, low water pressure in shower, thin walls
I rented an apartment at Sutton Court - while the quality of the apartment was fine, the management company was terrible to work with. Without notifying myself or my roommates, they let outside contractors into my apartment while I wasnt there and took everything off of my walls including personal photos and belongings (during a pandemic). While the contractors were doing their job, The Apartment Store should have let me know it was happening. When brought to their attention, they did not apologize, compensate or reconcile the situation - they could only place blame on others. This was an invasion of my privacy because I didnt feel safe in my own apartment and unfortunately they werent professional about it. Then at the end they got every little penny they could from our security deposit when we moved out. I wouldnt recommend to future renters.
The administration seems good however the apartment in Nicholas Towers was absolutely filthy, even the toilet !!. Spent hours cleaning before we could even unpack. They say they have a cleaning service you can request to come back and clean but realistically you just have to get on and do it yourself rather than wait around. Furniture too is broken or old and filthy. For the amount of rent charged it should be clean !!
I understand the need for a business to run. Shame on me for not noticing there THERE IS NO CANCELLATION clause in the lease. Once signed you are stuck unless you go legally to fight the contract. COVID is going to make all PENN STATE students remote so no need for an apartment of which isnt being used but paid for. Sublet? To who the campus is remote? Renters and parents beware and be sure!
Those that attempt to take care of the actual apartment get 4.5 stars. The upper management of the apartment store have always been, rude, condescending, and unhelpful.
I have lived in University Terrace and College Avenue Apartments over the past few years. University Terrace was a nice property and decent for the price, but the College Avenue Apartments were definitely a downgrade for the same price. The apartment is old and outdated, and it doesnt seem to be very well kept after. Most of the outlets in the apartment dont even have a ground plug in them, so you either have to buy adapters or not plug anything into them at all. Whoever paints the apartments didnt cover anything before they painted - there was white paint on our stove, floors, and baseboards from when they painted the walls. Also looks like they just paint over everything every year, so the paint bubbles when its hot and humid, and literally chips off the walls around the windows. Multiple cracks have appeared in the ceilings. Water was randomly shut off from time to time with no forewarning. MOST of the office staff are very nice, but I have gotten one particularly rude manager when I came to them with an issue. They are very helpful and nice over the phone or walking in, but I have NEVER gotten a single response to any of my email inquiries or requests through the resident portal. Overall an okay experience, but the properties away from downtown are all kept much nicer and might be more worth the money.
Terrible place to lease under. Was charged 2/3 my security deposit for damages that existed when my roommates and I moved it. Plus we had to pay August rent twice which was ridiculous because we only actually could move in for 2/4 weeks of the month. Most of the places we toured beforehand were pretty trashy looking. I strongly suggest staying away. We lived at Sutton court.
I do NOT recommend the apartment store. They have no ethics and they cheat! One staff I know was good, but she left. Do not sign lease with them. They will not treat you like a customer. Please, please stay away. I will not go into details, but as a tenant, Im very responsible and act with good faith. But Im very very disappointed with their service. Again, please stay away for good.
Great service, very friendly and professional staff and excellent management and maintenance team Just the best. Prompt service Shannon from maintenance very professional and friendly just like 911 operator I called for service within 5 minutes I had a response wow...
Love them. They are kind and so helpful, always going above and beyond. Angela and Courtney are simply the best.
Since the Apartment Store took over University Gate Apartments in Erie, the experience has been outstanding!! They really care about their resident’s safety and our overall happiness. The employees of the Apartment Store are very nice and kind as well!! If you have a situation the office will work with you in order to resolve the issue to your satisfaction. If you have something in your apartment that needs fixed, they fix it right away. Overall this experience has been very positive and it has truly been the best living situation by far!!
I have been renting from Apartment Store for the past 11 years and can say with out a doubt, Holly Kuhn (property manager), has proven to be the BEST. She shows tenants respect and compassion when listening to tenants concerns. She makes sure repairs and other problems are done quickly and efficiently. 5 stars for the Apartment Store and 10+ stars for Holly Kuhn!!
Awesome Management, cleaned well, extremely affordable! Best place for student housing 100%. The staff care about the quality and truly making their resident guests feel appreciated.
I was a tenant for 3 years and the staff was always friendly, helpful and willing to go the extra mile. For example, I couldnt get to the office during office hours before moving out my apartment and needed parking passes, and one of the staff members left them under my door. The Carlton building was always clean and maintenance responded quickly to any issues. When I first moved in, the apartment was in good condition with new hardwood floors. The bathroom could be updated/cleaned better upon moving in, but considering that they rent to college students and hearing other horror stories, it was in good condition. The staff always let me know if there was any maintenance that needed to be done or if they needed to show the apartment to possible leasers. Great place to rent from!
An update to my review:I have lived in this apartment for the past three years. I had never had issues with mice before this year. The Apartment Store claims that the mice are coming in due to the cold. It has been cold every other year, but they have only been a problem this year. There is a swastika painted on the side of my apartment building. The Apartment Store claims that this will be taken care of in the spring, however, this has been there since before it was cold. It was shoddily repainted over sometime previously, but it is still clear that there is a SWASTIKA. How can they let a symbol of hate continue to be defacing the side of their building? No matter the weather, this should have been taken care of immediately. Finally, The Apartment Store told me that a Residential Life worker would reach out to me. It has been a month and no one has reached out to me. Now they are giving us invoices for things that three college students should not be responsible for fixing or replacing. I do not feel as the The Apartment Store values my opinion as someone who has lived with them for three years. They gave me so much hassle when I MOVED DOWN THE HALL TO A NEW APARTMENT. They made me move all of my stuff out of my first apartment and take it home before moving back in, instead of just moving right into my new apartment. Dont spend your money with the Apartment Store and save yourself this unnecessary stress.
The Apartment Store staff is helpful and friendly. There is hardly a comparison to other State College realtor agencies that usually treat college student customers like they are worthless. The Apartment Store is organized and completes most measures online, which is awesome and efficient. Also, if you experience any problems, The Apartment store is usually good about following up and ensuring a satisfied customer.
I lived at the University Gate Apartments in Erie, PA and enjoyed living with them so much I am staying at one of their properties in State College. Customer service was great, anytime you went into their office for a package or something they made sure nothing in your apt. needed fixed. Held lots of activities that drew the community together, live bands, cornhole tourney, stuff like that. Never lived anywhere that did that before. I would recommend to live with them. Also, got most of my security deposit back, more than I thought I would to be quite honest.
I have been a guest of the Apartment Store for the past 2 years, and have lived at 2 different properties (Sutton Court, and Park Hill). I loved my experience in both properties and working with the people at the Apartment Store. Everyone was extremely friendly in the office and maintenance was always quick. They really gave more of a hospitality feel to the entire experience, and the way they interact with the students shines in such a positive light.I highly recommend looking at their various properties across downtown and State College, and enjoying your off campus experience.
DO NOT RENT AT THE BELLAIRE!!! First off, you will not get any mail because the apartment store doesn’t want to pay for it to come to your apartment. Also, the partition walls you see in the pictures are not going to happen. They rushed the construction of the whole building so things do not work, there’s paint on all the floors, we still do not have a dead bolt on our doors, and our cabinets were literally not screwed all the way into the walls. This place steals your money. Not worth it!
I wanted to balance my negative review of my last landlord in State College with a slightly better one. Its tough to find a good landlord in State College, and probably a matter of finding the one thats least evil. Compared to my experience with West Side Village, my experience with The Apartment Store was OK. In the few instances that I dealt with an employee of the Apartment Store, they were professional and pleasant. At the end of my lease I did my best to clean up the apartment, despite warnings from friends that I would not see any of my security deposit no matter what I did. A week after move-out, I received a check for 70% of my security deposit. In State College terms, Id say that isnt too shabby. The Apartment Store: not too bad.
The worst company Ive ever had to deal with...never answer questions accurately or in a timely manner, overcharge for the crappiest apartments, people working there will give you completely different answers, they will shut off your heat or water without notice, the list could go on and on. Want to know the best part? If you work for them, they MAKE YOU WRITE 5 STAR REVIEWS!!!!! guaranteed all the 5 or 4 star reviews here were either paid for or are written by employees. Pathetic. I shouldve sued them when I lived in their properties for all the BS my roommates and I had to go through
There are only 5 washing machines and dryers in Sutton Court and they are either full or don’t work at all. Also there was a surge breakdown which caused a complete destruction to the outlets of a wall and my friend’s gadgets. I am pretty sure they will make up excuses to make us pay for all the damages they had made...
Hey Yall,Had a blast this past year living at the Villas of State College with all my new friends I had met there. I was able to connect on a personnel level with a pretty large group of colleagues that made this year everything I could ask for! We were playing pool and ping pong all hours of the night and then would finish up with a dip in the pool to relax even in the winter SINCE ITS HEATED:) We were fortunate to have the staff over at the Apartment Store help us through all grey areas. They truly do have a passion for service over there.
I have had my bike and multiple packages stolen from my apartment while housing with them. They dont care, and wont do anything about it. I lived in Fairmount Hills, and anyone can enter the building. No security. Also, when they told me they are going to paint my apartment, they gave me a four day range. Four days? Like which day?! Should I just live outside for four days while you take your time inconveniencing me?! Im happy Im only here for the summer. Screw the apartment store.
You move into unkempt apartments, and even if you document everything when you move in, you best believe you will be charged for it all when you move out. The Apartment Store management comes up with every reason to take your money. I highly recommend to avoid living at the Apartment Store at any costs. If you have any problems, no one even responds back to help. Dont get yourself into this mess like so many of us have.
Please, even if just one person reads this and decides to go to another place to get an apartment, I will be happy. All The Apartment Store cares about is money. Their service is garbage, all of their contracts benefit them and only them, and the apartments arent even good for the prices they offer them at. The parking spots are a joke too. They must think that everyone drives smart cars because thats just about all you can fit in them. By the end of your time with The Apartment Store, you will pay fees that you were not expected to pay, you will be fed up with just about everything in your apartment and you will have wished you went somewhere else.
I am very pleased with the service and answers I have gotten whenever I have inquired. Employees are reliable and knowledgeable. I had a nightmare sub renter that would not pay etc. Using initials, HK, walked me through my options to get through this. She was patient and resolved the problems. So THANKFUL!!!
I was towed WITHIN MY OWN PARKING LOT for parking for TWO hours while moving out of my apartment within the moving out period. When I asked them to explain why I was towed and kindly asked them to refund me for towing me wrongly, the office claimed that it was simply unlucky that I was towed and that it was the last day before daily parking passes would need to be purchased. Instead of refunding me, they blamed it on bad luck. I believe that they didnt want to admit they were wrong and they didnt want to pay the towing company, showing that they simply do not care about their tenants. They know it is difficult for college students to whip out $150 and didnt offer any sort of reimbursement. They couldve simply taken the $150 off my next months lease.*Update: I got locked out of my apartment at 3pm on a Saturday and have been waiting for 8 hours for maintenance to contact me. I have left messages for both maintenance and the apartment store. On the recording, it says if there is an emergency dial 911. They have no other way of assisting parents and students besides allowing them to leave voicemails that never get answered. If you are planning on leasing with them, dont. I lived in Lexington House and every other week the water was conveniently shut off from 8am-5pm and they would not let us know until a few hours before the shut off or right after the water was shut off. Further, the laundry machines barely worked and would conveniently charge double... Sometimes, they forget to email or blame it on you for not receiving the email. They also forget to tell you they are showing your apartment to potential tenants leaving you in your pajamas brushing your teeth as strangers walk into your apartment. If you are renting a two-bedroom apartment, no air or air conditioning will reach the far bedroom and it will conveniently be the size of a closet- meant for a bunk bed because thats what college students apparently enjoy. The cleaning people smoke inside the building and dont clean on weekends and leaks are very common in your sink so expect strange men to be banging on your door at 8am right before youre about to leave to go to the game. The office is not open on the weekends so if anything happens past 2:30pm on a Friday, they will not help you until Monday afternoon the earliest. So if you enjoy not showering or doing laundry and looking at vomit on a Tuesday morning thats been there since Friday night, lease with The Apartment Store!
Lived with them for two years (Nick towers, Palmerton). Had a great experience at both places, in part due to the professionalism of TAS staff. Answered all my questions and always had a solution to any problem I encountered. 5/5
Look, I never go out of my way to write a review. But for something as time consuming and involved as leasing an apartment is, this warrants my special attention. So much of what they say is misleading or hides the whole truth. Sure you can say that most places of business, especially realty dealers, are like this. But a lot of the employees just flat out lie or guess at stuff they really shouldnt. For instance, I was looking to room with 4 other guys. We got in the game pretty late so there wasnt much choice in where we were staying. But I asked them things like What is the maximum occupancy here or, do the utilities come with the rent. You know, standard stuff like that. And they would completely lie to me. Collegiate Arms only suits 4 people, which was a huge disappointment after being told it suits 5, visiting it, and almost applying. It was only after we double and triple checked with other people we learned it was 4. We almost made a huge mistake because some guy decided to not bother checking. They also might say included in rent for utilities. But you better triple check with that too, because weve gotten two different answers on one apartment for something that should be so simply cut and dry. Just tell us, does the rent check we give you monthly- the one that says 2950.00 on it- also cover utilities. Its honestly a coin toss as to what they will say.Just please be careful, being a student is pressuring enough, trying to make an important life decision with a lot of money involved and people lying to you does not help.
I NEVER, and I mean NEVER, write scathing reviews. However, nothing about the Apartment Store is worthwhile. They have snark ALL THE TIME in their voices; its the most artificial attempt at providing customer service I have ever heard, and I work in a sales-driven business. When I moved into my apartment there a few years back, the floors were COVERED in crap. I say crap because I dont want to know what it was. Upon 6-7 attempts at trying to get someone out from maintenance to clean it, it never happened. Then a lightbulb went out in our overhead kitchen light. We called them about it, and they said it was on us to replace it... Right..... because thats fair. The only reason I put up with their crap is because they happened to have the apartments in prime locations. Looking back, I dont know why I ever went through the trouble. Theyre lucky their main clientele are a bunch of high-energy college kids. No professional would accept their joke of customer service.Oh and did I mention their fees/rates are insane? If I could give negative stars, I seriously would.
Its a terrible apartment building. They overcharge tenants to live with 3 additional people and having them share a bed and bath. They also make it difficult to transfer the lease from one tenant to another potential tenant. And even if transfered any damage done would still be charged to you and not the person who took over your lease. Also they charge you for mistakes that their system makes. Do not use this apartment building unless you are desperate for housing.
The oven was overheating. The temperature of the oven is not regulated by the control knob. Weve had most of our baked items burnt yet raw in their center due to rapid heating. A representative from the Apartment store came to ask if any appliances needed upgrading, so I told her that our stove needed replaced. This was in December or January. We heard nothing of the replacement process. We purchased an oven thermometer to read the actual temperature. We turned the oven to 250 degrees, which is the lowest temp excluding the warm setting, and the thermometer read 500-550 degrees. The threshold of the thermometer was exceeded so the function failed. What other appliance would have more priority of being upgraded? Our items have caught fire in the oven. I do not appreciate the incompetency and the degree of communication displayed between the maintenance office and the management office. I also called the maintenance office to schedule an appointment for a repairman to examine the oven. No one showed on either day that the repairmen usually make their rounds to the apartment complex. I heard, again, nothing about the lack of attempt in visiting our apartment, or getting a newer stove.
The apartment had not been cleaned when we moved in. It smelled of mold, the floors were sticky, the carpets were filthy, and there was a pee stain on the wall in my bedroom. When I called the office, I was repeatedly told that all apartments are cleaned before you move in... sure. They reluctantly sent a cleaning crew, who gave the place a quick once over and then informed us that there would be another more extensive cleaning service after the frenzy of move-in had settled down, and that the second service would include a full carpet cleaning. They never came, and the office hadnt heard anything about that promise when I later called. I gave up and shampooed the carpets myself, cleaning up the previous tenants filth.Im glad to be done with The Apartment Store.
A bunch of thieves. PLEASE do not rent from these unethical people. Youll save so much of your hard earned money avoiding this place.
The apartment store is a good place to rent from they are very accommodating with reasonable pricing for the area.
Kind staff, very helpful, quick maintenance responses. Truly care about their residents (leave notes and candy for holidays and always have freebies like food and giveaways). Their website and the ability to pay online, submit requests online, ect is awesome. Would recommend them over ARPM a thousand times (APRM is AWFUL)!! Save yourself the trouble and stay away from ARPM and get an apt through the Apt Store
I live at the Palmerton and this building is so cheaply built its atrocious. They have good customer service and great maintenance crew and I only know that because weve had our apartment flooded 3 times within a year. Find another apartment agency to rent from because these guys are cheap. These buildings are cheap and their solutions are cheap and dont last long. And they charge a steep rent.So in summary, dont rent from them Go to AW and sons or the other main one up here. The apartment store is the worst option hands down
Anything anyone says bad about the apartment store is true plus some. As a parent of a student this place has made me hate State College and think everything about it is bad. These people should be in jail. They train there employees to say Have a nice day while theyre really smiling and saying FU. You are a horrible representation of anything good about Penn State. As my mother would say Jesse James used a gun. Beware
Do not rent from the Apartment Store. Although staff and maintenance are relatively nice, it doesnt make up for the poor living conditions. When I initially moved into Sutton Courts, the carpets were filthy. We called maintenance to come clean them and they showed up with an old vacuum cleaner that did nothing. Dead bugs and dirt were caked along the carpet and the wall.During the year, our shower rod kept falling and punched a hole in our bathroom wall. Instead of patching the hole, maintenance just stuck one of those circular door stops over it. There was also severe damage to the bathroom wall near the tub that was there before we moved in. Parking spaces are incredibly narrow and most people dont even park in the spots. Maintenance comes frequently, but the Apartment Store has yet to provide 24-hour warning for when electricity or water needs to be shut off. Also, the Apartment Store CLAIMS wifi is free, but what they fail to tell you is you HAVE TO use Windstream and rent a modem for $7.41 each month. Hardly free. The worst part is every bill MUST go through the Apartment Store, which the company then charges a convenience fee for, and if you choose to pay online, youll have to pay another convenience fee to use a credit or debit card. ALSO, the Apartment Store overcharged us for our electricity (almost double what the previous month was) for a month when none of us turned on the air conditioning/were barely in the apartment. After going in and speaking with one of the employees, they admitted their mistake and refunded us, but overall it was super sketchy. Do not rent with the Apartment Store.
Lived in a place rented by the apartment store with a great location.Never have I ever experienced such horrible service through a company before. The people who work in the office are lifeless and could care less about your concerns. They tried charging us for damages that were already there the first 2 weeks when we moved in.The only thing that is keeping this company in business is the complexes and their locations in State College.
I called the other day with an urgent request and I was treated with the utmost kindness and courtesy by both Holly and Matt. They went above and beyond for me and I thank both of them for their efforts in helping me and my son.
They are by-the-contract kind of people and have no common sense or judgement skills. I would avoid the Apartment Store at all costs if I were you. I was with them for 4 years and they were generally garbage. On my last semester, they charged me for an entire year even though I was only there for 3 months. I will never see that money back, and they even sent the police after me when I refused to pay for it. Avoid at all costs.
I was absolutely disgusted with The Apartment Store. Any one of the reviews that says something nice is clearly an Apt Store employee saying that. I had to pay this place so much money for issues that werent mine or my roommates fault. Ive also had the displeasure of trying to speak with their staff. I would say two out of three were very rude to me.Dont rent from them.If you ignore this, pssh go ahead, your future mistake. ARPM wasnt even as bad as these guys.
Quick and easy to work with. Pleasant people. Would and already do recommend to others.
I was willing to give the apartment store a chance when I moved, but I soon realized they are as terrible as advertised. The first day we moved in there was missing furniture, hair and dirt in the shower and stains all over the carpet. Only after multiple times calling them we got our furniture. Our toilet would get constantly clogged, called the apartment store they said they cant do anything because we signed the as is release, person was very rude as well. Had a working online payment system and WITHOUT NOTICE change to an all new different system. They then charged a convenience fee for paying online of $2/month. Horrible service and horrible people, I hope karma comes back to these vile, greedy people.
Stay away, they will steal your childs soul then try to charge you an incredible amount of money to maybe get it back. Run by local County rednecks and in breads who think that every college kids is a rich little prick
The Apartment Store must be run by ISIS. Aside from myself I have known a multitude of people who have rented from them and everyones experience is terrible. If you rent from them MAKE SURE TO TAKE PICTURES of every little crack and spot on carpets because they WILL blame you for it. And god forbid you use thumbtacks on the walls. They take away security deposits for as little as that. If you like black mold and terrible prices, this is your one stop shop!
Don’t believe them about the 24 hours maintenance. They just have a lady who answer the phone and do nothing to help!
Very responsive to tenant concerns and follow-up is timely!
They have a monopoly, and they get their money. This is all they care about. The honest truth is that youll never be pleased. They clearly overcharge for parking permits and rent, and are very quick to tow any cars without a parking permit. No warnings. This is because they receive $20 knockback on every car that is towed from their lots. You will NEVER get a straight answer on any of your questions from anyone in the apartment store. My worst experience occurred last semester during move in. They told me that my apartment was ready, so I drove 2 hours with all of my stuff and a trailer to tow it with. When I got there, they were ripping up the floor in my new apartment and left it a complete mess afterwards. Furious, I called the apartment store manager (Crystal) and informed her that the apartment was not even close to being able to move my stuff into. She eventually was willing to come and see for herself and she said, I quote this apartment is move in ready. I have no idea what the problem is. My mother and I proceeded to clean the apartment over the next 2 days for nearly 24 hours. If there is any way for you not to deal with the apartment store, I strongly encourage it. They deserve nobodys business.
Worst place ever. They lost my check twice and took forever to respond to maintenance calls. They nickel and dime you anyway they can. I would recommend never renting with this group. The elevator broke at Christmas in my apartment, and still isnt fixed. Overall, terrible experience.
Least professional company Ive ever done any kinda of business with. I lived in Nicholas Towers two years and the stairways and elevators where always covered in urine and puke. They had janitors that would walk around on weekends to patrol and hassled me once because people where talking to loud in my apartment or if I invited a couple people to hang out. They treat you like children so dont think you will get any kind of respect when you call or need something from them. Plus the rent is extremely over priced and keeps going up because they cant fill all there apartments.
Atrocious living standards for the price youre paying, multiple leaks from drainage pipes above the partially replaced asbestos tile drop ceiling (I should have pressed charges for the hazardous material), and the spots that leaked dripped water on top of the stove on cookware, furniture and clothing. Cheap appliances including a flimsy stove thats a fire hazard, and has gotten the fire department called for multiple units on my floor, luckily not in my unit. Dont fall for the marketing machine of the apt store and the only way you can see a full deposit back is if you find a naive tenant to sign an as-is lease.. dont make the same mistake I have, glad to be done dealing with a soul-less staff.. there really is no excuse.
Dont rent through here. Paid $350 for the current parking and still somehow got a parking violation and a $15 fine.
Last year I helped move my daughter into her first apartment at the Armanera. The Apartment Store in State College was the realtor. Lets just say it was a disaster. There were cigarette buts in the sink, feces in the commode, stains on the upholstery, and black filth everywhere else.We complained to management and they did send someone to help clean right away. However, the person refused to help wash the walls (it was supposed to have been painted but was not and black was coming off with the sponge) He refused and then when asked to wash the floors, he stated, Why would you want me to wash the floors when you will just be moving in after and tracking dirt. We asked him to leave. It took us 15 man hours to clean before moving in their belongings. When the girls moved out the place was respectable. It was clean, all garbage removed, and in much better shape than when they moved in.Much to our surprise, they had the audacity to deduct a cleaning fee from their security check of over $140.00. When confronted, Matt Rigger the manager refused to refund the full amount. He magnanimously said he would refund half the amount which should have been $70.00. What we received was $46.00. My suggestion to you is to beware! They prey on college students and steal their hard earned rent money.
Jusssstttt piss poor place to deal with.. Completely unprofessional and cant even spell
I advise anyone looking for apartments to NOT sign a lease with the Apartment Store. They told my roommates and I that we could definitely sublet our apartment for a semester when I went abroad and that it was a very easy process. However, they then told us that every single roommates plus the subletters had to be present all on the same day to sign a new lease. Thats 7 people all there at the same time. Everytime I called, there was a new rule associated with this procedure. When we were moving out, we accidentally left our Windstream modem in the apartment, not knowing that we had to return it. The Apartment Store refused to have the person inspecting the apartment take it back to the store for us so that Windstream could pick it up, and they threatened to charge us $100s of dollars for leaving it in there. In fact, on our move out statement, they didnt charge us for the modem... They charged us for a bag of trash left outside the apartment. There was no bag of trash... My experience with people working in that office is that they prove themselves to be unprofessional, consistently say they dont know the answer to my questions, and are out for college students rent money.
Would give zero stars if possible. Doesn’t matter how well you take care of your apartment, they will keep as much of your security deposit as possible because they know they can get away with it. Ridiculous. Avoid at all costs.
To start off, I am furious. We were at the Villas for a year, and we were model tenants. Even if the house was falling apart due to shotty construction, cracks all over the walls and ceilings, a water leak in our kitchen and above an electric socket for that matter. Not even when a massive water leak destroyed a good portion of our food in the pantry. Also literally had to clean up after drywall dust was flung all over our kitchen and living room. We did not complain! When we had astronomical electric bills due to a poor insulation, and our stairs leading to the 2nd floor were wobbly, plus the drywall tape was showing due to the poor craftsmanship of the drywallers and carpenters that built the units. We did not complain. The fact that there was a sewage treatment plant 200 yards downrange so we got a nice “morning air” of crap and chlorine, at some point would create a problem breathing. We didn’t complain! When the water was so bad, we had to use water filtration to drink it, and it still came out cloudy, we didn’t complain. And finally, spending a total of $250 (which half was refunded to us) for an “activity fee”, in which we could use the bus (never used), and amenities like a pool, gym, fire pits, volleyball courts, grilles, etc. (which were put in half way to three quarters through our lease, and we never used any of these!) still didn’t complain. Now that we moved out, cleaned up the apartment, even vacuumed the carpets and swiffered the wood flooring. With a representative of yours walking through the place giving it a thumbs up! Pointing out the walls had scuffs and needed to be painted (I can agree to that). You stiff us out of half of our $1,250 deposit for $250 in cleaning expenses, $200 for shampooing the carpets, and a 15% ADMIN FEE ($70.00)!! In addition to $21.00 for the walls to be painted over. The Apartment Store is thieving beyond discontent! When a representative looks me in the eyes and says “this was one of the best he has seen yet” from the Villas as far as the cleanliness and presentation of a final inspection, I expect to get at least a larger refund then $722.40!! And according to your emails, the cleaning and shampooing was supposed to be around $35 to $40 an hour! How do you get 6 hours of cleaning and 5 hours of shampooing out of a perfectly cleaned unit!!!Stay away from this place! It’s not worth the outrageous price compared to other apartments.
I have been with The Apartment Store for 3 years now. The first year I lived in Nicholas Towers, and the second two I have lived in Fairmount Hills. Nicholas Towers was a decent apartment building, but with the rent at $2,885/month for a 2-bedroom 2-bath furnished apartment, it should have a been a LOT nicer. The first semester I ended up living with 4 other girls (a total of 5 including myself) to make the apartment affordable, and it just was not worth it. The living conditions were way too cramped. But I am really here to review Fairmount Hills. Last year I was neutral about the place; the rent at $1,208 for a furnished one-bedroom one-bathroom apartment (split with my roommate) being affordable, and the furnishings being decent. It is about an 8 minute walk from campus, which can be a difficult trek in the winter time, but not too bad overall. This year, however, my feelings have completely changed. It started with the elevators. Since this past August (2014) the elevators broken down at least 8 times. Living on the 6th floor, this is an extreme inconvenience. They were broken when I returned from home for the fall with a bunch of luggage, when I returned from grocery trips with my arms packed with things, and my favorite experience was on my 21st birthday, when I was stuck in the elevator for an HOUR AND A HALF.Now I wont give The Apartment Store complete blame for the last one; about 15 people had pushed into the elevator, so it was clearly over capacity. BUT the elevators had no safety to prevent the elevator doors from closing when over capacity. I am also dumbfounded as to how the only person with the magical key to open the elevator doors lives 45 minutes away from State College. We had the police standing outside of the elevator doors waiting there helpless, then finally, after 1.5 HOURS, the ONE maintenance man with the key arrived.Lets move on to my next issue with The Apartment Store. The parking deck. This year, I suppose the already questionable structure of the parking deck became completely structurally unsound after this past winter. Anyone with a parking permit for the top or bottom portion of the deck was given extremely last-minute notice that they had to move their cars during SPRING BREAK, or they would be TOWED. They were able to relocate most of these people to either the Beaver Street Parking Garage or the Palmerton Parking Garage with a $50 reimbursement. These people who were forced to relocate SHOULD HAVE BEEN FULLY REIMBURSED for the extreme inconvenience. I was lucky in that I was one of the first people to sign up for parking, so I was able to stay in the other parking area by the apartment, but others were forced to endure a lot to relocate. Before The Apartment Store had given these people alternatives, these residents were forced to find parking in other garages that was NOT FREE and, if they did not keep their receipts from this, they were not reimbursed for these costs.Today, I have lost it. After all that the Fairmount Hills residents have put up with this year, The Apartment Store found it appropriate to raise the cost of 1 load of wash from what was already a rip-off price of $1.75 to a whopping $2.00. This raise was done without any warning, it was just a wonderful surprise for all residents! I already spend about $25/month on laundry (originally $1.75/wash and $1.50/dry), and now they are going to try and squeeze MORE money out of me?I could not be happier that I am graduating this semester, and getting out of this money-grabbing piece of crap apartment.
Nice place
I enjoyed living with them. No problems whatsoever.
Apartment store is easy to deal with.
My fire detector never worked when I moved in. Obviously I did not find that out until they tested them. They saw it didnt work so they put a new one in. I was then charged for a new fire detector.
Awful. Do not rent through the Apartment Store! Terrible service and they dont care about anything except taking your money any way they can.
The service was awful where I lived. The landlord was nasty and not approachable.
Make everyone have multiple co-signers, charge fees for every little thing, and screws you out of deposit and last months rent time.
The company here is worse than ISIS. They are awful, hateful, scum.
I was trying to contact their manager. They kept getting my contact information to call me but never did that! They did not treat me like a customer.
