Nice people, through part of town
This place was Horrid I was needing respite and they keep you up all. Night with a beeping alarm I was sent all over the place by myself and I am disabled 55 and have Huntingtons they dropped me off at a clinic then yelled at me like a child when they made mistakes my phone was stolen and they sent me on the bus all over Seattle to get a phone and I got lost every time on the steep streets of Seattle I put the only contact I had on thd chslk board and they errased it they left me standing on the corner at the Drs office without my cane or my phone and I I had to walk 6 blocks to inside the hospital to get to a phone and call they had half the place was empty and they told me the night before that tomorrow was my dischage day so I better have a plan so I cried and left to take a taxi to the cheapest hotel and they did not give me half of my meds when I left I call ed them back to see if they could come and get me at least 10 or 15 times when I ran out of money and they refused they dont follow HIPPA THEY do intakes right in front of everyone and I was a nurse for 20 years
I stayed at the shelter for a long time before they found housing for me... but the people are great...its like the homeless had our own Starbucks... with coffee every morning...it was so worth it because they helped me with ssi and other issues...desc saved my life... thank you!!!
The police will not help you, because I told them not toooooI speak for the lawyers, prosecutors, and every Police officer. Stop it, or you will find Rath
You must experience it for your self. It is a place to stay warm and sleep . STAFF=Do the best they can give... CLEANLINESS= needs improvement... SAFETY= needs improvement... CASE MANAGEMENT= Doing the best they can give, thank you.
I work here makes it way better
Daniel Malone, the CEO of DESC pulls in about $200,000 a year or more in total compensation. Nice work if you can get it eh Daniel. You dont even need to show any results just go on the PR circuit and tell community leaders that you need more money. More and more and more--This election we need to vote the real bums out of office. DESC hasnt met a single benchmark set forth by the city for funding, yet they still put money in the hands of programs like this. Its almost a petting zoo mentality.Shut these places down and replace them with something that works to help and empower people in need. Its not rocket science.
Homeless people are very misunderstood and treated badly. Drug addicts are misunderstood and treated badly. Churches and people of the world need not to judge. But uplift these people. Judge not lest yet be judged. Love the staff for what they do here. Thank you for everything! Ill be back to visit in August. God willing. Peace, love, light. Betsy Jones a.k.a. Punkin
A person willing too recive, are willing too give...... hand-n- hand
I had to stay here after a really bad night involving predators and drugs. It sucked. I wasnt able to get a bed so i wound up having to sleep on the chairs, with nothing but a blanket to make it more comfortable. Before i left i had to go to the bathroom and i discovered there was no bathroom stall, so you had to piss out in the open. And being a 23 y-old trans male, i got a lot of older men creeping out on me and commenting on my breasts. The only quality i would give this place is the staff. 0/10 would recommend ROOTS or Jackson Street instead
They need a lot more people to work there
Case management is great your welcomed when you come in with warm greetings they provide you with the basic essentials of life, food, clothing and shelter, they have healthy, fun and educational activities going with referrals to other agencies that can and will help .DESC is here if you need them, want them or dont God out of His mercy gave birth to DESC for our use .Im proof that DESC helps when I came from Tampa Florida 3 years ago to SEATTLE WASHINGTON DESC Was the first place I was referred to, now I have my own home and was provided with unlimited resources .Thanks God for DESC SEATTLE WASHINGTON .GO SEATTLE !!!
I was supposed to get a call from them. They never called me back. Two weeks ago. My reminded me of that.
Comfortable beds, Its better than the union gospel mission.
Progress to better understand and commemorate indifference and perspective is being attent`ed.
A top of the line service organization. Nothing but kudos to them.
Because they ALL LOVE ME.
Out of all the downtown shelters Ive discovered here in Seattle Washington DESC. Is the the best... But most of the organization that Ive worked with for the last 3 months of were supsposed to put me in housing ...Im leaving for Las Vegas Nevada where my best friend lives ... The least Ill be somewhere where people care... I cant much say about Seattle
Amazing staff! Great resource for those in need.
Be careful and cautious about who you call friends. Some employees seem to take an apathetic approach to their responsibilities.
Nice plant palm in view needs water.
Stable place for the homeless!
Okay, Ive read the reviews. Actually agree with some of it. However, I believe they are somewhat unfair.Yes, the DESC can be somewhat harsh. Yes, when it comes down to the question of what shouting matches and issues Ive had with staff the question come to mind how you want the list organized; chronologically or alphabetically. However, we also need to keep in mind that they are the largest organization that takes care of the homeless. Yes, there are people working there that quite frankly should be thrown in a mental institution. Again, its a big organization. However, I arrived in Seattle 3 years ago being a part of one of the 3 entry points (Connections) for nearly the entire time. This is literally the only organization accessible for help by the homeless (I tried over 6)that didnt use how hard my case was as an excuse not to work it (because you know if my case was so easy I wouldnt just solve my own problems myself) and put me through a lot of drama. I was part of drama at times, but looking back most of it was. In the DESC you have those that shouldnt even be in society. However, youve also got dedicated skilled and talented workers every day trying very hard to help us deal with our issues with little rescources and so little pay that they actually qualify for Orca Lift, the citys answer for low income puget sound residents getting around by mass transit. With all my barriers, they actually helped me get the first home in my adult life and have established the very first safety net that I have ever had in my adult life.Yes, it has its issues like any other organization. However, all in all its a pretty good organization that does everything from helping the homeless get housed to helping to protect special populations (mentally ill, elderly, etc) to having computers available to job search ad well as take a break from the daily job of surviving. All in all its an imperfect organization with imperfect people attempting the perfect job of taking care of the homeless that so many other organizations in this city simply give lip service to. Its a good thing and I am very grateful they are here.

They do amazing work there
Main shelter has moved to the Red Lion Hotel in Renton, WA.
