They may be the only rain gear alteration and repair place in all of western Washington but they are prompt, reliable and professional. It was worth the drive to us. You cannot really see them from the street. They are down stairs below the Italian place.
These folks did an incredible job on a very difficult project
This is one of those places that reminds me that I will never be a true seattlite, but in a friendly good way. Brought a regular old backpack in for zipper replacement and found out the cost would be 5 times more than I paid for the pack. This was not an attack on their pricing, moreover a realization that this is a serious gear repair shop. The best was that they were kind and genuine about the entire situation. I appreciated the customer service very very much. Would definitely recommend them for friends that have outdoor gear needing repairs.
Came in because I lost part of a buckle on my mountaineering backpack. It fell off when I put the pack down and blew away in a strong wind. They had an assortment of replacement buckles on hand and fixed it on the spot at no charge. Super great service! I figure a positive review is the least I could do. Ill definitely be coming back if I have any larger gear repair needs in the future. I went from not knowing this place existed to feeling very lucky to have it so close by.
Repairing? Maybe. Cleaning? Absolutely NO.I sent my $500 down jacket for cleaning with an expectation that my jacket can be professionally cared and cleaned based on those 5-star reviews. I explicitly mentioned this jacket can not be machine washed and dried that was the reason why I sent it to Rainy Pass for a cleaning by experts. But turned out my down jacket was still put into machines. The waterproof layer is washed away. And because it was machine washed, the dark color from the lock also stained the white surface. Moreover, the metal parts now are not shiny, and the stainless layer is damaged as well.
Their website claims, Turnaround time is typically 1 to 2 weeks. This isnt true. During the email quote exchange, they never said otherwise. After I sent them the garment, then they said 3 to 4 weeks. How convenient for them to acknowledge this after its too late for me to choose another vendor. Now my choices are to pay them to ship it back to me or simply deal with them. This is the first and last time Ill use Rainy Pass Repair. For the record, this is to stitch a small patch on a brand new, undamaged jacket. Not the most involved or time-consuming service.
I have used Rainy Pass Repair Inc for over 20+ yrs for repair & alterations of my technical gear & wear. On top of their Gore-craftsmanship, their technical (ie often equal or better then labelled manufacturer!) & their customer service is outstanding. They are great at setting customer expectations & most importantly their execution & follow-up is peerless.I have had the gore water repellency in my gear degrade after 20 yrs, but my Rainy Pass Repair repair or alteration has held up! ... even after my gore fabric gave-up.Needless to say I am a life-long customer & believer. Kudos to Rainy Pass Repair & staff!!!
Rainy Pass is awesome, Ive been a customer for several years now and have always had a great experience. Theyre knowledgeable, good advisors who dont upsell, and the repairs have been effective.
The repairs they did were better than the original zipper by far. Would give 5 stars but the finished my jacket and forgot to call me. I just happen to check in on them. It has been a few weeks.
I sent Rainy Pass Repair my Arcteryx Thorsen Parka jacket in the mail for them to shorten the sleeves. They did an incredible job. Im baffled as to how they were able to preserve certain features (buttons, inner elastic cuff, Gore-Tex logo, etc.) and still take 2.5 inches off the sleeves. To be honest, I couldnt tell that itd been altered until I tried it on and it fit perfectly. Theyre well worth the premium fees they charge for their services; I highly recommend them.
I cannot even begin to explain how happy I am with the services provided by Rainy Pass Repair. I sent in an Arcteryx jacket that did not fit properly to have it tailored to my measurements. They communicated constantly to ensure everything was as I desired, completed the work in half of the estimated time, and the work is absolutely impeccable. I would not hesitate to use them again and again. There is a reason that they are recommended by nearly every manufacturer of quality outdoor wear. Thank you again for your awesome work!
Fantastic service to make your gear last longer.
I sent a pair of insulated warm up pants to be altered. Clearly this difficult via mail. However, I had a tailor mark them w chalk and I mailed them to Rainy Pass. They did their work and mailed the completed pants back to me. It was an easy process and Rainy Pass was terrific.
Sent my gore Tex jacket in to repair a large tear on the sleeve. Turn around was faster than quoted and the price was reasonable. Sewed a patch on inside and out, taped the new seams. Color isn’t an exact match but is much closer than I expected, almost not noticeable. Very happy I chose a professional repair.
Love this place. These people know what theyre doing!
One of the most incredible work environments I’ve experienced. Cannot recommend this place enough. Expect high quality not quick and easy work.
You have expensive gear you love and it has fallen apart???? Go here! They will fix it up real nice.
Great drop-off experience - there was a parking right next to the store, they practice good social distancing - only one person at the time to drop off / pick up things, and the person at the customer service counter was very polite.
Quality repair, quick turnaround.
Awesome resource to have your gear fixed when you dont need to buy new.
Dont throw away your damaged outdoor gear. Bring it here.
Had my questions answered about gear repair, particularly restuffing down.
Great service I highly recommend. Fixed a nasty tear in the mesh door of my new Big Agnes tent, like it never happened. Got it back quickly too. Thanks
This is the best tailor on the west-side in my opinion. The quality of work is great. They make sure everything fits you perfectly. The service is also outstanding. They are devoted to making sure you are happy with your clothes. I recommend them to all of my friends. You will not be disappointed by going here.
Brought in one of my favorite jackets for a zipper repair. Cost of labor was reasonably high but the associate provided another solution at no cost. Will need to do a few more modifications to make it wearable again but that’s what happens when a great product is discontinued. Will return for bigger repairs that I know I can’t work my way around. Great folks!
Living in New England, I was slightly concerned about sending a ski jacket across the country to have the sleeves shortened, but it is a pricey jacket and I wanted to go to experts at Gore-Tex alterations. Did Rainy Pass ever deliver! Communication was easy and effective, turnaround time was much quicker than promised, and the quality of work was spectacular. If you want the cheapest you should probably go elsewhere, but if you want the best, dont hesitate to trust Rainy Pass with your expensive outdoor gear. They rock!
Sent a down sleeping bag in to be cleaned, it returned with a fresh scent!
Excellent customer service, they fixed my zipper that I thought was surely done for in under 20 min and at a very reasonable price (my 6 year old North Face sleeping bag is good as new now). The guy at the front desk whos name I cant remember (Kip?) was very kind, knowledgeable and gave me tips on how to wash and care for my bag. Not only that, but when my car failed to start he went out of his way to help me jump my dead battery in his rad Tacoma and helped me get on my way. Highly recommend them and ask for Kip, very nice guy and awesome service. I will happily bring them any gear that needs to be repaired in the future. 10/10 Would recommend.
Found Rainy Pass Repair after melting a hole in my brand new Salomon Ski Jacket (left it on a heater). Took some time to get it back but couldnt be more impressed with how it came out. Jacket looks brand new. Great customer service as well - called in a few times to check the status and staff was always very helpful. Would def recommend, keep up the good work fellas!
Sent a down sleeping bag in for laundry service. Cost me $14.50 to send FedEX 2 -day express. Now Im getting charged $51.80 to send it back freight and only paid $44 for the service. TOTAL BS
Best gear repair shop in town, possibly in the country. I emailed them when living abroad about some Canada Goose repairs and they were able to turn it around quickly and for a reasonable price. This is where REI gets their repairs done! Very professional and knowledgeable. I’ll keep coming back when I have gear to be repaired!
I was disappointed when I tore my Gore-Tex shakedry cycling jacket. I sent my jacket in for repairs and was totally surprised how quick the repair was made and how well it was repaired. The repair is not what I had expected, The panel was replaced and it exceeded my expectations of a repair. If you did not know where it had been torn, you would not know it had ever been damaged. Thanks for your AWESOME REPAIR AND SERVICE!!!!!!
I just got my jacket back from them today, and the patchwork looks amazing. They were upfront about costs and everything from the beginning.
Beautiful work, nice stitching in replacing the zipper on my down jacket, only too bad it was put on backwards. My Mens Columbia now zips like its female counterpart. The zipper-pull was replaced to the left side rather than the right. I would send it back, but dont want to wait another 2 1/2 months for it. They did great work for me on other things in the past, but Ill now remember Rainy Pass Repair every time I have to zip up.
I like to give it time before leaving a review. If I could give a higher rating than 5 stars, I would. Two years ago I took an older very large Cabelas Guide Model tent in for replacement of several blown out zippers on the rain fly. I received a quote for the service that seemed very reasonable compared to the $900 replacement cost of the tent.I was very, very happily surprised to get a call to come and pick up my repaired tent and when I saw the invoice, it was a small fraction of the original quote. The repair only required replacement of the zipper guides, not the whole zippers. They were right, it has worked flawlessly for two arduous camping and hunting seasons since. The fact that they have the integrity to do good work and not do extra unnecessary work speaks volumes. I have recommended Rainy Pass Repair to all of my friends and will continue to do so.
Rainy Pass patched the mesh roof on my tent after monster grasshoppers had their way with it last year. The patch looks solid and Im happy to have a permanent fix, instead of a glue-patch, to one of my favorite objects. Far cheaper than buying a new tent of the same quality and they exceeded the quoted turnaround time.
Their word is no good. I posted proof below. They claim, in their own words, to help you out if they are not able - they lie. Very disappointing for a company that REI referred me to. Just another company in this day age that doesn’t follow through with their claims. I’d love to hear a response but doubt they’ll own it.
Faster turn around time than expected, and the repair looks so good its like it never happened.
Manufacturer of my waterproof rain coat refused to repair. Rainy Pass Repair took on the challenge, called me to confirm the estimate and plan, and sent me back my favorite coat. The repair is so hidden that even when I was looking for it, I found it almost impossible to see.Thank you so much!I can’t wait for it to rain!
Super service. I take all of my outdoor gear here to be repaired. They work with you in person or over the phone to make sure you get what you want.
Wow! I cant even believe how awesome this company is! I sent them a Rumpl blanket that my dogs had pulled some of the stitching out of. Not only did they repair it to the point where you cant even tell it was damaged, but they also fixed some poor stitching that came from the manufacturer. Throughout the entire process, they were courteous and professional. It didnt cost me an arm and a leg either. Thanks Rainy Pass Repair!!
Got my stuff clean, but not without a bunch of attitude. The desk worker sat there doing paperwork for five minutes instead of helping me. And one star off just for the incredibly inconvenient hours.
This business is clearly populated by people who are passionate about the activities related to the practical output of their labor. As such they understand the rigors gear must survive. Note that they are optimized for major gear repair, not minor clothing alterations, so expect to pay the same for a large zipper replacement as you would a basic restitch
Had my jacket repaired here as part of lifetime warranty Mammut offers. Repair looks excellent and the turn around time was quick. Thank you, skilled folks at Rainy Pass Repair!
They do a great job repairing torn equipment or broken zippers. Repairs made on time and as quoted. Wider range of services than I knew about.Repaired my rain gear with a rip above the pocket. Replaced zippers in matching sleeping bags.
Fixed a whole in my tent screen and was able to do a rush order for a wnkd backpacking trip for a small additional fee.
They did should a good job on my LEAF gortex bip, I cant even tell it was modified
Extremely disappointed with this company. I would never consider using them again. They do not stand behind their word what so ever! They were extremely rude to me as a customer. You would think they would be able to hem pants correctly but apparently not. I highly consider anyone looking to do business with them to go somewhere else! It will save you money, headache, and a hassle!
Had to get my textile motorcycle jacket repaired after an accident caused a seam to blow out. They charged me about $50 dollars to do a flawless repair that you can only notice if you analyze it seam by seam. They are total pros, and definitely the first place to stop to repair your gear befor you lay down $400 for a new piece.
They do great work on repairs. A little costly with shipping etc but it always comes back great.
Repaired broken zipper.
Ive been an occasional Rainy Pass customer for many years. A recent experience will keep me loyal for a long time to come, I predict.I have an old pair of ski pants that had begun to leak. Rainy Pass diagnosed that the tape on the seams needed to be replaced. I authorized that, and they did it, at a cost of $100.But on the next use I discovered the pants still leaked. I inferred the pants were giving out in too many ways to justify repair. When my wife took the pants back to Rainy Pass to report they still leaked, RP immediately--without my wifes asking for anything--offered to do further repair at no charge or to refund the $100. (We took the refund option and will apply it to new pants.) Great integrity, Id say.
They couldnt help with washing my old Bibler tent.
Specialized in fixing delicate clothing that keeps you comfortable in extreme elements.
Ive used these folks to repair and alter my outdoor gear for 20 years.Always professional quality repair that restores life to a favorite piece of gear - often the gear is better than before.
These guys really know what theyre doing. I cant say enough about how much they made my day by fixing zippers on some of my clothes, some of them on the spot. Apparently Im notorious for breaking zippers cuz I have a lot of stuff with broken zippers; Sentimental stuff that has much more life left in it. Good people, good quality, good service.
Good looking reasonable repair on my parka.
Ive dealt with Rainy Pass for decades, and the work (aesthetics, strength, friendly service) has always been great. Top manufacturers (e.g., Spyder, North Face, Patagonia) and shops (e.g., Aspen Sports) recommend them, and their alterations, repairs, and cleaning, are, in my experience, first-rate. But their hourly rate is $83 now, and the wait time is over six weeks; they tell you this up front and they dont exceed the estimate, but Im still kind of amazed by the pricing and waiting. So think carefully before you engage. If you have the time and funds, the result will probably be quite good.
Pricey and great quality work
If you need a tent or ski jacket repaired, this is the 1st and only place to go for quality work.
I have been working to get my jacket repaired with mammut they sent me to rainy pass for a zipper repair. I was excited to get my jacket back and fixed before my field season started. I washed it and sent it off. Im not sure they are used to dealing with truly used gear. I run trail crews, travel around climbing, and run chainsaws year round so the jacket will be forever stained with outdoor love. They basically made fun of my jacket saying This garment has to be laundered before a technician can touch it. In fact I wish I’d known it was as filthy as it is when I grabbed it out of the box. again I did wash it. Hurt my inner dirtbag soul to hear people in the outdoor community putting down the overstoker crowd. I get that its dirty but no need for the putdown. Customer service is super important to me so ill be supporting a company that gets the outdoor world. Get outside my friends!
Rainy pass repair was recommended to me by REI. Although it was a long drive up to the North part of Seattle from Puyallup, it was well worth it. They were able to fix a significant tear in our Bob Revolution Duallie and it was done so professionally I could barely find the spot after we got it back. I would highly recommend this company.
Professional, capable,, excellent. . There are none better on the West Coast.
Fun vibe.
