Mr. Earl made getting a new short style a fantastic experience.Shop is very clean and professional. Relaxed, modern and friendly.Head to Capital Hill if you want the best barber in Seattle.Anywhere else? Does how you look matter, then there is No Where Else!
Earl has been cutting my hair for about 35 years. That says something in itself if Ive been going for that long. I love the brother
Earl is a just a pro! Been there twice and looking to make it my first stop for haircut. He effortlessly does a great job cutting hair while delightfully making conversation. His price is really great for the quality of job done. I recommend!
All the barbers there are great, friendly, and all around awesome people. Highly recommend
Professional and skilled barbers! My son is always pleased with Earls work!
Wonderful! The service is great! The work is awesome and the people are fantastic! I am so grateful I found this place!!
Husband got a hair cut here by Earl. He did a fantastic job fixing the hack job Assembly Barbershop did days before. Seriously, he is a miracle worker because short of a buzz cut, I wasn’t sure how the monstrous hair cut was going to be fixed. Thanks Earl!
Clean and Safe experience getting my first hair cut with COVID. Jasen did a great job, thorough and timely. Safety precautions observed and appreciated.
Ive been looking for a good barber shop since moving to Seattle 6 months ago and finally found one! The guys here are super chill and fun to talk to. Its also right around the corner from the 48 bus stop so its always easy to get to. Finally, their dogs are super sweet and fun to have around.
Recently moved to Seattle and was looking for a barbershop. Coming from the south and someone that finds barbershop Saturdays with the fellas needed therapy I looked around quite a bit. Found Earls shop to be very professional and welcoming at the same time. And got an excellent cut on top of it. This will be my spot going forward.
I arrived at my appointment for my son 10 minutes late. I called 4 times prior to my arrival to ask if I needed to reschedule. No one answered the shop phone on all 3 attempts so I proceeded to my appointment. Upon arrival I requested to use the restroom. When I returned, I noticed Jasen had began cutting my sons hair. I asked him not to take it down too low. He non chalantly agreed to my request. I reiterated my request a second time and Jasen quickly became defensive and argumentative. He was rude, disrespectful and unprofessional. On top of being confrontational. At this point his quote unqoute dialouge became a shouting match. I am a repeat customer and I would have thought that Earl would hire people who treated his customers with respect. I will never return to this shop...EVER! This by far was the worst experience I have had. If you must go...request Earl. Do not see Jasen!! Do not! Super disrespectful and disappointing as a Mother and paying customer. Supporting local black businesses...take your money elsewhere. I would give zero stars but it is not an option.Cabriel Thompson
Dell does my cuts, hes professional and fast. They cut both men and womens hair. If youre looking to get natural, black hair cut, you should check out Earls. It can be a challenge to finding good African American/ Black barbershops in Seattle, so I appreciate finding Earls. Recently reopened in Central District, everything is new but the ownership and barbers. I believe in supporting small businesses.
My son loves that all of the barbers know his name and how he like his hair cut.
Just had the best cuts for all 3 of my boys at Earls Cuts & Styles! Theyre highly skilled barbers that clearly take pride in their work, their shop is nice and clean, its a friendly atmosphere and theyre reasonably priced. Id highly recommend them!
Dell has been my son’s barber for the past few years now at Earls. He’s very professional, timely and precise with every hair cut! Check him out, you won’t regret it.
Earl is a true legend in the Central District. If you dont know about him, then you are not familiar with Seattle. Despite the neighborhood constantly changing. One thing that remain still is Earls cuts and style! It wouldnt be the CD without him and his team! They are all professional and precise with their work. Convenient location and nothing but old love in his shop. I personally had my hair cut at his shop while i was in high school. The community need more role models like Earls Barber shop. Its not all about how they cut hair. You can tell they care about their Customer and building relationship value.
This is great place to get a haircut. I recently arrive to Seattle and stumbled upon this shop. I got a haircut by Dell and Im very satisfied with the results.
*story time *You can get a decent cut here & is the reason I came here a few times. BUT, the lack of professionalism in my most recent trip made it the last trip.Gonna start by saying I always tip—-but unfortunately that didn’t hinder them from completely wasting my time.So I usually go to Earl, the owner, & I came and asked “how many in front of me?” he said 2 plus the one in the chair. Yikes. A wait. But its a Friday, and I get that. So I wait.He finishes the 2+ and then magically there’s another “appt” he had that he “forgot” about -even though Im 89% sure dude was a walk-in (u can always tell who the walkins are vs appts ---appts be mad confident walking in bc they KNOW theyre next) & he says I’m next after that.Annoying. But whatever, I’m patient so I wait some more. 15 minutes later a different barber frees up. (It’s Friday -I have plans this weekend & everyone knows you just don’t experiment on ya hairline like that) So I tell him I’m waiting for Earl. Then suddenly Earl hits me with “My son is next” “I’m tired” after just 15 MINUTES ago when he said I was next. Besides that- his son wasn’t gonna pay him, I was. So clearly business isnt business. Usually barbers have a rule where if youre in the shop before closing time - you get a cut. Not here. This man had no intention of telling me I was waiting for nothing....bc he was tired —-& wasted 2 hours of my time in the process. At this point I don’t have a choice but to experiment. But guess what? During that 7 second interaction between Earl & I, Experiment Barber (Dell) took back his offer cut me right then and went on a smoke break.Right. As if to say “you should’ve gotten up right when I freed up, now I need a break....seriously?I wait about 7 more minutes until I realize...I’d have to be one dumb mf if I paid anything after this.So after almost 2 hours, I left.My issue isnt with the wait. Ive waited longer for a haircut before. Its that the wait could have been avoided if he communicated better. If youve read this far - literally look at all the other low reviews, they say the exact same thing.Thankfully I have my own clippers and a straight edge (just not as skilled) & that can last me until I find another black barbershop in this city.Bottom line if you value your time or respect, find a new spot. The end.
Nice people. Visiting from out of town and my son quickly needed a haircut. They were great. Friendly place. We hope to return soon.
First time getting a haircut in Seattle and I came to the right place. Earl and the other staff are friendly, welcoming, and hard working. Shop was clean easy to find. Haircut was reasonably priced and I am very satisfied with the quality of the job. I would fully recommend Earls and will be back soon.
Always a pleasure to get my hair cut at Earls superb customer service they really know how to make you feel welcomed.
One of the only black barbershops in Seattle and a classic one at that. Earl is in shop every day. Recommend you call ahead, as walkins can take some time to accommodate in the 2-3 chair shop. That said, always good movies and conversations going on so the wait wont be too bad.
Excellent barbers they take out so much time with the young black men. They are all role models. The best barber in Seattle?
Pretty descent place for cut. I have to say ever place got a unique way of doing thing, never had someone use scissors when they giving me a lining. I dont know what some people got a problem with and this place. Just go up to the barber and ask for a cut keep it simple.
Great haircut by Dell. Affordable price. Accommodates walk ins too.
If youre looking for a good fade, then this is your spot.
One of the few places in the Central District that is still black owned after all these years. Many famous people have walked through these doors looking for a fresh haircut. But Earl and his staff will always leave you with more than just that, but a sense of culture as well. These men are proud Seattleites and theyre not going anywhere anytime soon.
I have been getting my hair cut at Earls for six months. They do an excellent job. You are treated like family.
Ive been here a few times over a few years. But today I came in for the first time in a long while. There were three people ahead of me in line and it took a little over an hour for me to get my turn. A little disappointed. Not only that it costed me $30 for a cut. I told Earl I just wanted the sides and back down with a .5 to a 1. Instead he just did his own thing and did my top (which isnt too bad). But right before my cut, he had me waiting on the chair for 10 minutes to smoke.
Ive stopped in a few times, always greeted when I walk in and have no trouble getting a cut. Barbers are professional and the work is sharp, glad to have a solid barbershop like this nearby.
Amazing haircuts! Locals and super friendly! Only barbershop I go to for 15 years!
Earl is the best barber in Seattle, dont let these bad reviews fool you. These people writing these bad reviews are just uptight people, because every time I come to get a cut its nothing but love and great barbers in there. Earls all day every day 👍🏾
After 9 months in Seattle and 3 failed haircuts im happy that I discovered this barbershop today. Anyone looking for a fade should give this place a shot. I live in Belltown nobody over there can compete with this place.....Ill be back.
Very friendly people. Was trying to find a good place to cut my hair once I moved here. I have to look no further.
They are so arrogant you would think the haircut is free. Walked out after waiting for someone to acknowledge me for 20 minuets. The one with the white beard is downright rude he walks right by you as you try to even talk to him. So much for trying to support a black business.
One star only because ZERO is not an option. I made two appointments with this place and they did not honor either one! Showed up and the shop was closed and no one answered the phone. This happened TWICE mind you. How unprofessional.
The best place to go get a haircut
C. Black has been cutting me for 15yrs & I have never had a bad cut! What would the neighborhood be without this fixture on 23rd & E. Union.
Where you get hooked up. Nothing else to say.
Ive gotten two haircuts at Earls and just failed to get a third. First time I showed up at or just after close (I didnt know) but Stu was nice enough to still give me a haircut. Second time I walked in on a Saturday afternoon me and another guy waited about 20 minutes before someone showed up. Two days ago I called about what time they open and I made an appointment for 9:15 the next day (today). No one was there even after I waited about 15 minutes (went to fill up gas across the street). No one answered the phone when I called. Waste of my time. Any positive review of this place is a lie or seriously outdated from a time when they actually cut hair.
Amazing Barbershop, black owned and has many great barbers !
Good job
Positive atmosphere, and very helpful to the community while waiting for a hair cut
Great family barbershop
Always on point with the cuts!!!
I came in recently to get a hair cut. There were 4 chairs and only one barber. The barber seemed surely and not welcoming which made me concerned since he would be cutting my hair and Id have to live with whatever haircut I got. Two people I assume must have been waiting 2 people taking up six chairs with their stuff and just as unfriendly. When I finally got someones attention about getting my concern about getting my hair done. The gentleman ushered me into the chair and played it off like he was gonna use my hair to light his blunt with my head. The three other guys hanging around were well inebriated and must not been barbers. I spoke to a gentleman at a nearby bus stop asking about places to get a haircut telling him about by experience with Earls. He told me he quit going there cause they like to give preferential treatment to customers they no or like. This establishement has offended me now on not just one occasion but two now. Due to there terrible bedside manner and unprofessionalism Ill never go back again not even if they were the last barber in the city. So if you have all the time in the world and like jokes being made at your expense see Earls.👎👎👎
Im a sophomore in college and Ive been going to Earls since HS, theyre pretty chill over there and they give clean cuts! Earl and Black are the best for sure!!
Walked in and was greeted with kindness and professionalism. My new place to get haircuts.
Good People I will make Earls home for my CUTZ!
My experience was by far the worst that Ive had thus far in Seattle. Around 5:20p today I walk in the barbershop and theres a gentleman sitting at the desk. I ask if theyre still taking walkins, he says yes and the barber (currently cutting hair) will take me, but its going to be a long wait. I told him I didnt mind the wait, as its a struggle trying to find barbers who can cut black boys hair. The barber then says, hes not taking any more clients and I should go talk to the owner Earl. So, I walk outside to ask Earl (whos taking a cigarette break) if he would be available to cut my sons hair. He gives me a look as if I asked for a million dollars and then says, do you see all of the people waiting? Its going to be a long wait. I told him I didnt mind waiting. He then dropped his head (as if dissapointed) and told me to come back in 45 mins . Wait, what? Theres seats in the shop. So I need to leave and come back? Why? Im confused, maybe someone can help me out, but isnt this a barbershop? Dont they take walk-ins until 7p? So why do I now feel like I just committed a royal sin by trying to patronize this establishment? What really upsets me is I drove 40 mins just to get here, only to be treated like a second class citizen. Is this how they treat all customers???? Im new to Seattle and I have been trying to find a decent barber for my 5 year old son since June AND Id love to patronize a black business. I, however, can promise you that Earls wont get a penny of my hard earned dollars and I will tell everyone I know about my experience.#StayAwayFromEarls

It wasnt great too busy and no longer at that Union St location.
Friendly, welcoming, efficient, and most importantly, a great haircut!
Nice guys, good hair cuts every time.
Earls a great guy & his barbers have you looking real good
I got a very clean cut--didnt feel rushed. They only take cash, but really reasonable, especially for the quality.
Great barbershop
They set an appoint for me at 8:30am I went there and no one showed, no one answered the phone. I ended up waiting 45 minutes and still no one showed. That is some terrible service. I now have to stay late at work and have no haircut to show for it. What a huge waste of time.
Important part of the history of the CD!
Seattle history. This is the best barbershop in town.
Earl always has me looking crispy
The homies and they give good cuts
