Terrible service. Lots of lies trying to pursuade homeless man into services he doesnt need. If I tried that with my customersInstantly let go
Tried to cancel installation within an hour of signing up. They promised it was cancelled and Id receive a refund. Then I started getting confirmation emails that the installation was scheduled and equipment was shipped. Almost a week later and still havent received my refund. Had to do a credit card dispute just to get my money back.DO NOT USE SONIC. Its just inept middlemen on the AT&T platform.
Sonic has been my internet service provider for five years and I have always had superlative service. My colleagues who are not in the areas covered by Sonic are rightfully envious of what I have.
Used to be an awesome, independent internet provider. But no longer. From the time I used it back in 2014 compared to today, something clearly had changed. There is more emphasis on partnering with atnt and because of it their customer service is terrible. Installation had to be done by a professional even though they just plugged in a modem after I waited for weeks. Now a year out from my introductory price paying $97 for barely 50mps for months I am changing apartments and wanted to see if they could do anything about getting costs down since literally every other internet provider would be cheaper for a year.Basically was told nope, nothing they could do, so I cancelled my service for the following month.Since that conversation I have been getting daily disconnects they last an hour or so. Maybe a coincidence, maybe not. But terrible customer service and as soon as I was done with them after being a good customer for years it feels like punishment for my last month of service. So sad to see them hit rock bottom.
Very consistent internet provider. Only downfall is they rely on at&t
Just got Sonic Internet Fusion. Had Comcast Xfinity. Here are the numbers. Switching over is working out for me. Saving money and faster speed. (Note: we only do Internet-only and no contracts.)$50/mo Sonic Fusion speed test = 49 Mbps download / 5.5 Mbps upload$65/mo Comcast Xfinity basic = 29.5 Mbps download / 2.9 Mbps upload
I was very happy to discover Sonic, as an alternative to the larger internet companies. But the installer claimed there were connectivity issues he was unable to troubleshoot. I regularly have to turn off my wifi and use my data to access the internet. I asked Sonic to send someone else to resolve the issue. The second visit made no difference. I asked Sonic to let me out of my one year contract. Turns out Sonic uses the same shady business tactics as the obnoxious internet companies I was trying to avoid. Im stuck in a contract, paying for services that have never worked properly. Avoid Sonic..
Ive been an ardent champion of Sonic and its services, both in business and at home, for 15 years. I was even interviewed by the Press Democrat for an article about my using Sonic and at that time, why I felt they were a good service company for businesses and residential internet services here in Sonoma County .What Happened to that group who banked on their integrity and forthrightness? Lost their collective way it seems. Was it Greed? Over extended yourselves? Poor Management ?What a pathetic decline due the combination of all three.I have removed all Business services contracts with this company as well as residential. I will suggest others do the same when asked.Thank you.
Hello i have been a customers for years with sonic and i must say i am really impressed with there staff members. They really do take their time to understand you!! one guy who is a super star in my eyes and a problem solver is paul S. he helped me with my wifi issue the moment he heard my amazing story he knew exactly what the problem was and it was a very helpful fix with the issue i have been going through this for 4 days well guess what not any more!! thanks pual.S keep it up buddy!
Never use them for website hosting!I was a satisfied customer of Sonics ISP for five years about 10 years ago. Everything was OK. Since them, I have worked with several companies that used Sonic as their web host to host their WordPress sites. I want to caution those thinking of using Sonic for that purpose. DONT. Sonic no longer cares AT ALL about supporting their hosting customers. The hosting team at Sonic wont update their software (PHP), have terrible customer service and support, and make zero effort to help when things go to hell in a handbasket. It is not the people providing the support that are the problem...it is that management wont let them do it. All their focus in on high speed access now. There are lots of ISPs that have exceptionally high rank for customer service. Use one of them.
Sonic is number one in my book. They offer a quality product at a fantastic price. Their support team is very personable and really care about making sure you are a happy customer. They go above and beyond the call of duty and I really appreciate not having to go through an automated system before getting in touch with a real person. Other companies should use Sonic as their example and get back in touch with what customers really want and need.
When I call, they are very sweet to an old lady. They explain in detail where things are located, how to check if they are ok and every time they solve the problem. (Ive called twice) They are never patronizing!
I had sonic at work downtown petaluma so I know what im missing. I live out on the west side and my house is about 2 miles from a sonic connection. I wrote asking how many neighbors I would have to get on board to get service but never heard back. Who ever heard of someone begging an isp to become a customer?
Greatly company to work with. Fastest internet speed. Amazing price
Awesome place to work!!
Wont get on a 28ft ladar to do install that already exists on the building
Very fast and more privacy (I hope) than the others.
Tl;dr: Sonic Gigabit Fiber has been the best home internet I have ever had. The upload and download speeds are fantastic, there are no data caps or throttling, in 9 months I have not had a single issue w/ service, and all at a price that is about half of what you would pay at Comcast for comparable service (before considering data caps).Read below for more information.Like most Americans, I have been stuck choosing between one or two companies for internet most of my life. In this area its usually AT&T or Comcast, with some areas having a few other smaller providers or services like Webpass.I cant comment on the other smaller providers, but AT&T or Comcast remain worse than Sonic by every metric. I will include a small caveat: I am reviewing Sonic for their Gigabit Fiber Internet. As I understand it, their non-Fiber offering relies at least partially AT&Ts network and has some limitations in terms of reliability and service because of that.As far as their Gigabit Fiber Internet goes: for $50/mo (including router) you get symmetric (1 Gbps upload/1 Gbps download). I have never had an outage or technical issue, although I have been using it for 9 months so it is possible I will see issues over a longer period of time. I have never seen any evidence of throttling and while I have never quite measured speed up to 1 Gbps, it is very consistently in the 650-850 Mpbs range.Oh yeah, NO DATA CAPS. No worries if you have a family that likes to stream different content, or if you have to download several games onto your new computer, or if multiple people in your family want to download the newest Call of Duty. You wont be charged more, and you wont be throttled.Comparing that to Comcasts offering: $90 installation and $85/mo (including router) introductory price with a $115/mo cost after that. While I have never had Comcasts gigabit internet, I did have their Blast Plus option for a while and there were frequent problems. A full on outage was uncommon but frequently our speeds would crawl to a halt, in the range of 2-5 Mbps while we were ostensibly paying for 100+ Mbps. This is because with Comcast you are sharing your bandwidth with your neighborhood, so during peak usage you will likely get much lower than advertised speeds. I have not found good information regarding whether or not Comcast gigabit is a shared line; if it is it is likely much more reliable than their other options. Unfortunately, my experience w/ Comcast (and AT&T) salespeople is that they do not actually know the answer to questions like this and may even tell you something incorrect. So Comcast costs almost 2x as much during the first year and even more after that, offers potentially comparable speeds, has had lower reliability in my experience, and to top it all off: DATA CAPS. If you hit your data cap once you are given some leeway, but after that you start paying $10/50GB of data. Since Call of Duty is so popular, imagine if you had to pay $30-40 just to download it after already paying $60 for a copy and $115 for your internet that month. In summary: theres just no competition, at least not as far as AT&T or Comcast goes. If you have the option of Sonic Fiber, I recommend you try it. They do offer a 30-day trial period where you can cancel your service you are having problems and you will not be charged any cancellation fees--they do still require a 12 month contract initially. At this price, Im really not complaining.I do have a minor complaint: they advertise the price as $40/month but it is actually $50/month, at least during the first year. You either have to rent their router for $10/month or pay $10/month fee if you choose not to. I can understand why theyd do it this way but it would be more consumer friendly if they just advertised the full cost up-front.
This review isnt for the company itself but the 2 amazing employees who helped us out! My wife and I were loading materials into our vehicle and we were having trouble loading large items in the back. Two employees of Sonic services ran over to help us and did the job waaaaayyyy faster than we would have. Thanks for hiring amazing employees!
Horrible coverage and WiFi Signal. Every day on zoom calls I get dropped and I’m hard wired in. Every everting the WiFi signal drops and I lose connectivity to my televisions. I call and they say everything looks fine on their end. They have no VISIBILITY to me or my Experience. They lack the insights to see when I’m dropping or history of it. How do you fix it? Give us FIBER! Give us a high quality device and get tools that give you insights into your customer experience. EXPERIENCE is everything and right now it’s Not a good one.
Local company, excellent service, good price for fibre internet, and best of all can ditch Comcast
I really wish i could give this company 10 stars.Awesome customer service. Staff that isnt afraid to say I cant answer that question, but let me get someone who can.Unbeatable prices.I hope the Gods of Fiber grant you expedient expansion into Rohnert Park, we need the upgrade.
Very good place to work. People are friendly management are awesome and very helpful. Internet service is great and super cheap.
Soliciting complaint filed. No soliciting sign posted, but ignored. This is a fantastic way to acquire a new customer. Scumbags.
RUN, do not walk from this business. I had sonic for three days, and found out that I have to move to Texas where sonic obviously doesnt offer services. That 30 day cancellation Doesnt mean that you dont get charged for the first 30 days. Not to mention I had to hand deliver the equipment back two hours away from where I lived because of the dozens of horror stories from people sending equipment back, then being sent to collections for the equipment. I know Comcast and AT&T are terrible, but they look good in comparison to this company.
Ive had Sonics Fusion service for nearly 10 years now. I love that it provides my local and long-distance phone service as well as fast internet service. My son and I stream videos and Netflix/Amazon Prime quite often and the service is robust and works well.I love thata) I can call them and get a _human being_ on the phone.b) Either that human being totally knows what to do to solve my problem, or they can get another human being who does.c) Now that I have the leased modem, that human being can get into my service and tweak things to improve my upload/download speeds while Im talking to them.I used to have C o m c a s t, and have never once looked back. So very satisfied with Sonic.
Not very happy with the manager of the outside sales team (Mike Madigan). Fired me because I had to leave town due to my grandmother passing. Also this company lie to EDD saying that I left on my own but thats not true I was let go by Mike Madigan And the whole HR dept. If you want to work here stay away from the outside sales team and Mike Madigan.
In a day and age when customer service seems to be slipping, these people are always quick to pick up the phone when I call. Fortunately, for the last year or two, my internet service simply works, so I dont have to, but rest easy knowing they are available if I need them.
Beware - voice line porting major problems!Due to a relocation I have to port my phone number out.Unfortunately, Sonics infrastructure for this process is deficient and very, very bizarre. The gaining provider says they need my name, address, zip code and port out pin. But apparently Sonics voice services partner XO Communication does not use this information - reportedly they just use a shared address and static pin for all requests! Repeated submittals from the new provider result in the same vague error message about an information mismatch. Even more, Sonic and new provider CSRs do not have any access whatsoever to more details of the transaction failure, nor do they have consistent escalation procedures. Both parties use the famous phrase Reach Out To [someone else].My port request has been going on for almost a month. One can find other examples of porting problems in online forums from years ago, so obviously Sonic has no interest in fixing this infrastructure defect. I was finally able to get a higher level rep at the gaining provider but I dont know how this will turn out.If you want their high speed, fiber based internet service then fine. Just dont tie your phone number to them - go with a reputable VOIP provider instead.
I had the gigabit service for over a year, very fast, but the modem needed constant resetting. I called a number of times to complain, but they just told me to reset it. After I canceled my service, they told me they could have swapped it out for a new one. Too bad they didnt tell me that earlier! I also dont like the 30 day wait until ending service. That really sucks. Sonic gets one extra star because of its political stance on net neutrality.
Best customer service around. The CEO actually cares about customers, internet freedom, and their employees. No data caps, no throttling, max possible speeds without artificial limits. Also Gigabit service in many areas! Also, theyre not AT&T or Comcast. 😄
I called this company to see about switching internet. I got yes we can, yea we can, yes we can! No problem! What day would you like your install? Mon or Tues. ok no problem! Well Friday, here I am, waiting for the installer, I had to cancel 3 appointments costing me at a minimum of 600. They were not honest when they spoke to me. They did not disclose that my area MIGHT not be available. They didn’t disclose that it might take more than one day to get service. They did not listen when I told them Mon or Tues. when I call there is miraculously no one available to speak to me and the man I just spoke to told me not to call back because he would tell everyone not to deal with me! I have been taken advantage of to the fullest degree! Do not do business with this company! They go thru ATT and have no control over anything! They say whatever to get you to sign up then everything changes. They are a small company, why do I have to wait two days for a call back? SONIC practices FRAUDULENT business practices! I will post on all the business rating sites to let everyone know how shady your business is!
After no communication for a week they scheduled my install for a 9 to 11am THE NEXT DAY, LESS THAN 24HOURS NOTICE Informed them that I wouldnt be home they offered me another window, which I agreed to. An hour later they said it would be in 2 weeks. I told them Id figure something out for the original time slot. At that point theyd already given that to someone else. Now Im waiting an additional two weeks. Apologetic enough but still cant do anything. They were quick to take my money. Now I have to sit here and wait. Nothing they can or will do.
For the last year, I have been mostly happy with Sonic Internet. However, they do not seem to be living up to their mission of providing quality, affordable internet service. Some of my own research over time has been cause for concern and am not as enthusiastic about Sonic as I once was.One major point that Ive come across is Sonics use of AT&T to provide at least some, possibly much, of their internet service. That partnership was pegged as allowing for higher internet speeds. After extensive testing of my own internet speeds through Sonic, my service is clocked at 4-6 Mbps for download speed, and 1-2 Mbps upload speed. As there is nothing currently noticeable on their website or my own account profile as to what speeds I should expect, I believe that I recall the claim was up to 25 Mbps. I havent been terribly upset by that except that this current bill jumped to $71/month, from a $42/month introductory price (tax, fees, and equipment rental costs included). Thats a hefty price considering the speed is so low. $71/month is nowhere near affordable as Sonic claims. In addition to that, I researched what other companies have to offer. AT&Ts offerings are difficult to get a good understanding on but what I did find on their site was $40/month for speeds up to 100 Mbps, introductory price (I dont know what it increases to after the introductory period). Comcasts offerings were much more transparent as they have many more market offerings, including one for up to 60 Mbps for $30/month (introductory) then increasing to $50 afterward. The pricing here for AT&T and Comcast does not include additional costs for taxes, feed, and any equipment rental costs. Regardless, the key point is the similar price point for wildly different offerings. Im seriously considering switching to either Comcast or AT&T if I can get better speeds for a lower cost, even after the introductory phase. Sonic needs to do better for their customers if they want to consider being the affordable option.
Thinking about switching my home office to another room. Called Sonic - pleasant person answered quickly - was transferred quickly to a tech person - answered quickly - tech person was knowledgable - gave me options to do something first myself & if that didnt work, call to have a service person out at a charge - So satisfying, so professional, so heads & shoulders above others. Thank you Sonic.
Worse than Comcast or att. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They have very deceptive practices as far as their cancelation policy and how you will be billed I called in after being fed up with Comcast. I wanted to see if they had faster speeds than listed and I wanted to support a local company. The saleswoman I spoke to said her son lives close to me and uses the service and has no issues with speeds. She also said they had a risk free trial for 30 days and I could cancel at any time during the first 30 days and get a refund for the unused portion of my month. I ordered on May 28th and was billed immediately 53 dollars for internet and phone . The att tech arrived on June 5th an hour late to install. He had a bad attitude and said he couldnt call me to let me know about being late because I wasnt an att customer. I used the service for about 10 minutes and saw that it was going to take hours to upload a work document for an email . I canceled the service on June 7th and was required to email in with a secret code. I then had to call back to confirm. I was then told it would take 30 days to fully cancel the account and I need to return the equipment and I was responsible for paying to return. I drove the equiptment to their office and returned it and confirmed that I was canceled and there would be no other charges. I was charged again on June 21st for services for the month of July. This after I canceled a week before this. I called them and was told that they could not prevent this because att bills them for 2 months. They said I would get my refund on July 14th after the account was officially canceled. Very deceptive and shady company. They just middle man internet service through att and charge you more than if you just ordered from att yourself . I went back to Comcast. As bad as Comcast is, and if you have ever used them you know they arent the best company but honestly they are much better than sonic. I would not recommend this company even if it means not having internet in your home. The speeds you get at Starbucks are much faster as the upload speed with sonic was just 1.9mbps on the upload.
These guys used to be great :-(I detest Comcast and in my area the best alternative is a bonded DSL that Sonic resells from ATT.The other day I had issues with the ATT circuit blocking ports and when I contacted Sonic they said they cant provide support and that the only thing they can do is open a ticket with ATT. After a couple ticket attempts and no resolution. I finally just called ATT until I found someone that could fix my circuit. It was a catch-22 ... Sonic didnt have the tools and ATT wouldnt talk to me.Another thing to note ... the tech submitting the tickets to ATT wasnt sufficiently trained well enough to actually provide ATT the info needed in the ticket to actually get the issue resolved. When I mentioned NMAP he was clueless and said that hes got other hobbies and that his job wasnt something that he studied for!!!
I would seriously recommend NEVER opening an account with this company. They are no better than COMCAST OR ATT. Their speeds are not as advertised, they throttle your speeds, and charge you surcharges if you use in peak times. You NEVER see a contact, its all done orally, so its basically your word against theirs. RUN, RUN, RUN!
Switched from Comcast internet to Sonic gigabit fiber in November 2017, after being a long time cable (internet) customer. Sonic came through my San Francisco neighborhood offering $40/month (+ ~$10 month in fees) for 1 GB/s speeds. Having been as frustrated as most by Comcast, I was very happy to explore a new option, though I didnt know much about Sonic besides they were smaller and had mixed reviews as a DSL provider. After requesting service, they came by in less than a week to install the fiber lines. Installation for fairly painless, which included them running a new wire from the pole to my unit, and setting up a small modem for the fiber service. As part of a promotion, they offer a router with a discount for a year, but my advice is DO NOT GET IT!! When the router was first installed, it was tested at about 250 MB/s... blazing fast! But my service over the next few months was fairly poor. The connection would constantly degrade and/or go stale, and Id often have to manually reset the router to restore service. Calls to Sonic didnt yield much.Fed up, I finally decided to purchase my own router, and what a difference it made. Wired I get about 600-700 MB/s symetrically, and 300-500 MB/s via WiFi with my strong router. I called customer support to let them know I was returning their router (even if it would cost me a few extra bucks a month), and had a weird exchange with the customer support agent. I asked if others had called to complain about the router, and he said no. I told him I was really happy with the fiber, but that I had experienced a lot of issues with the router.I went on to say it was too bad, because it masked an otherwise great internet connection, to which he responded thats just your opinion. I was a little taken aback that he was so defensive, when I was just offering some genuine and what I thought was helpful feedback. He then told me by not using their router I was now liable to pay extensive service costs should anything happen with my service. I found the whole exchange bizarre: by upgrading their service at my own expense via buying quality hardware (i.e. not the junk they provided), Im now on the hook for service fees? Plus, they charged me shipping to return their junk equipment. Weird...At any rate, I havent had a problem since I upgraded the router, and fingers crossed I wont in the future. My internet is blazing fast, and Im happy to see many other folks in my neighborhood installing Sonic. With TV on the internet (e.g. YouTubeTV), theres no reason to stay with Comcast if you can get Sonic Fiber in your neighborhood. Just beware that the router they provide might degrade your experience.
Amazing support. like you just wont believe how responsive this company is to anything you want to throw at them. Humans always answer the phone, hold times are very minimal, and even the hold music is awesome.I know it sounds like Im just gushing over this company, but after dealing with Cox cable, AT&T (from the PacBell days all the way up to now), Verizon, and even the hip internet and cell companies, this company is a breath of fresh air in a world of locked choices. My only desire is for them to expand their fiber service area to include northern Humboldt County, where there is not enough people for a profit motive, so I know its a pipe dream. I just wish I could continue doing business with them now that Im beyond the redwood curtain.
Sonic is hands down the worst internet provider Ive worked with in years. I signed up for their 50mbs service and at best got 25, the vast majority of the time it was under 4mbs. I had multiple outages per day. Despite working with their tech support *repeatedly* over MONTHS, nothing ever improved. Despite the fact that their service DIDNT WORK, they still charged me $150 to get out of the contract despite the fact they didnt meet what they promised me in the contract. Buyer beware, AVOID SONIC LIKE THE PLAGUE.If you can get webpass, do that. Other than that, as much as it sickens me to say it comcast is actually better than Sonic.
Horrible. Every day at my families house we have to fight over the Bandwidth and struggle to share it. When its just one person, its O.K., but with a family of 4 and each person having at least 2 devices connected, its just no good. We have tried calling Sonic, and repeatedly we have been told to communicate with AT&T, to which Sonic resells as a package deal to our home. Only to find that AT&T just takes a look at our receiving box and then sits in their truck for a few hours and then leaves with no feedback. We have an ADSL modem thats running on the older cables which seems absolutely ridiculous. They have left their customers in their home town out to dry, and they have not done much for connection sake on their servers in Hayward and San Jose. I would give it an even lower review as I did have a former friend try to intervene his work life into his personal life. How unprofessional! Everyday its the same constant struggle, and with that former friend he wanted me to perform tests on our receiving box that was not even ours! It belongs to AT&T!!! If you live in Sonoma County, prepare to be disappointed. As for our family, we have to run through our data every month to satisfy our needs to connect and for my father to work. I do not recommend! Check other ISPs to see what they offer, and ultimately, they will give you much better connection speeds and wont try to scalp you!
Rude, service
This once good internet alternative has failed to fix their error by mistakenly disconnecting a biz internet/phone. After 24+ hours of waiting for a resolution still no supervisor call back or agents who will fix the mistake.Just TERRIBLE!!!!!
Sonic is the best ISP ever! Great service and people who care about their customers.
I love Sonic, best customer support Ive received from a company hands down! Knowledgeable customer support reps with nonexistent wait times.
I love this company, every time I have had an issue, their support staff has been awesome. I have rarely had to sit on hold when contacting them.
Affordable Internet. They dont lie about the service youre getting and dont throttle speeds.
Best customer service ever! Wish they would come to So. Cal.
Too many issues on service cancellation.
Dishonest company with terrible customer service. Charged me for equipment that I returned to them. I will never use them for internet again and neither should you!
Best ISP ever!
Sonic sucks, internet gos out all The time. They tell me its fixed remotely but it still gos out. Sent out someone to fix it, showed up late, said its fixed. Still gos out!!!!!! GIVING UP.
Good cheap Internet.
An ISP that cares about their customers.
Great ISP.
Great company.
Great people!
Great service!
Amazing company!!
