I was one of those guys who was slowly losing his hair and finally had to face the reality of it. I did my research on hair styles for thinning hair according to the shape of my face. I had found a few examples which I kept on my phone to show my stylist. I get there at the Gauntlet and was digging the masculine atmosphere of an old barber shop. Finally, I met my stylist Terrance who is really cool and laid back. I had showed him the pictures on my phone and he said it was no problem at all. This was a big step for me since Im embracing my receding hairline for the first time in my life, but Terrence had put me at ease. He had styled my hair perfectly, exactly like the picture on my phone. He took off quite a bit as I looked on the floor to what looked like the clippings of a shaggy dog. I felt so liberated and free of worry after so many years. Now my hair is totally hassle-free. I can just wash my hair and just towel dry it and Im good to go. Terrence did an amazing job. I walked out of there with a smile on my face. Besides the high level of skill these stylists show and the cool atmosphere of the place, I thought it was a nice touch when they offered me a beer. Im so glad that I had chosen the Gauntlet for my hair cutting needs. I wont go anywhere else.

This place is awesome, my barber andre works here and hes the best.They give you the option of coffee or beer for your beverage.

The Gallant is awesome. Wonderful folks with big, welcoming hearts. Between the barbershop and Kin coffee, its my new favorite corner. Christian gave me a great cut. Have a pint of beer on the house and pick up a new shirt or shoes.

Open late. My boyfriend received a great haircut. That haircut saved our relationship. He walked out looking so fine. I couldnt wait to run my fingers thru his hair. I highly recommend getting your locks cut there. Especially if you want to impress.

Great store, friendly staff, great vibe, tasty beverages but unfortunately I asked for a head shave and the barber cut my head 3 times and didnt inform me or give any discounts. My friend also had a poor experience with a separate barbers etiquette, hopefully these were just one off experiences.

Came in the shop, waited 15 minutes just to get a cut..Christian is a pretty talkative guy, friendly but could not give me a decent trim around back and sides. Earline was totally jacked. While I should have asked for a tapered back, I feel like a barber should see messed up proportions. I give 2 stars for him offering me a free fix up session, and a full refund when I turned that down. The environment is not as professional as the ritual..I made a HUGE mistake coming here.EDIT:one less star because Christian personally texted me asking me to take down my review..just accept the defeat and move on man. Just proves my point more, this guy is unprofessional.

I had the pleasure of meeting Christian last week. I walked into the Gallant for the first time and right away I felt welcomed. I didnt have an appointment and I didnt know they were about to go on lunch but before I could turn around and leave Christian asked what I was looking to get done I told him I wanted a cut and shave and without hesitation he told me that he would do it! At first I felt bad but once he started I realized how passionate he is about barbering. throughout the cut he spoke to me a connected with me instantly. In all honesty I was having a horrible day.I kept getting rejected by all the other shops and on top of freshly broken up with.... he turned that right around for me and made me realize that its only going to get better . The hair cut was flawless. his attention to detail is unparalleled. the shave was very relaxing and I didnt feel rushed whatsoever. The shop is very clean and everyone is friendly . Aubrey approached me and handed me an ice cold beer from a Tap! I mean who does that. My experience was great and The Gallant is what every barber shop should strive to be. keep it up! you made a life long customer last week and ill be seeing you all next week im bringing in my three boys. thank you

Hands down best barber in the area! I have been seeing Christian for nearly 5 years because I can always count on a great cut! If you ever want to treat yourself to one of the best straight shaved around, this is the place to do it!

Been here twice now, and its definitely going to be my go-to barber in SLO. $30 for a haircut here is totally worth it, they do a great job and they offer complimentary drinks (they even have kombucha on tap if you dont drink alcohol or are under 21). I messed up and didnt finalize my reservation for my clip today, but they still managed to fit me in, and there were very nice about it. Highly recommend.

Best cut Ive had for sure!

I’m new to the 805 area and did not have a great experience at a different barbershop for my first haircut. Looking for another barbershop, I happened to walk by this place a week after it opened and Christian was very welcoming! The great first impression I had got me to try haircut this morning with Christian. I showed him a couple pictures of how I wanted my hair and he delivered! Christian is very professional and very nice to talk to! Don’t think I’ll be going anywhere else anytime soon! His shop has a great classy feel to it and overall would recommend this place to anyone!

Wow! As you know it can be difficult to get a same day cut in the San Luis Obispo area at a quality barber. I showed up in a pinch (big meeting Monday morning) and I was fit in outside of normal Sunday hours. Old school customer service is hard to come by in this growing community and The Gallant crew made a new loyal customer!

Where has this place been all my life? This is exactly what Downtown SLO needs! Ive been to a lot of shops, but the respect and service here is unbelievable. The price is beyond fare as well, to the point that I schedule my haircuts around my every-other-month trip to SLO now. I wont get anything but a neck trim anywhere else!
