I love the cut he gave me but $27 a quick hair cut seems a little steep to me.
Great experience at The Barber! Best cut Ive had in a long time. Was on vacation at the Madonna and decided I wanted a haircut for interview I had the next day. 100% best cut Ive had in a very long time, very thorough. Enjoyed the good conversation and experience. Going to make this my go to when Im in the area.
The best cut Ive had in a few years. Thanks Mark.
Jim did a great job and was really friendly. Great barber shop and highly recommended
It was a great experience. Very professional place. I was visiting the area and the owner was very personable.
Thanks for the haircut Im very happy
My kids have been going to The Barber shop for years. I finally find myself in the neighborhood and went in.Great experience. Excellent haircut. Fun retro barbershop. Nic is the man! And I came out looking like a new man myself.
Had been in need of a haircut for a WHILE, went to The Barber, & Jordan hooked me up, & gave Me exactly what i wanted! 👍Highly recommend!
It was a good haircut and quick to get in.
Expensive for a haircut. Cut with on a part on wrong side. I look like haircut was made with bowl
Mark know ho to cut hair! Go here, it’s a super great spot and wonderful place to get your haircut. Great for men’s cuts and tight fades. They only take cash though so stop by before.Ask for MARK!!!
Great little barber shop. Stopped by on a Tuesday afternoon and got served immediately. My six year old son needed a cut for a wedding that weekend. The barber talked me through what he was doing with the haircut and it ended up looking great! $22 for a boys cut was a little steep but he did a great job so I was happy to pay it.
Great service. Professional 4 sho....
Ed is great!
Friendly place (if you know them), bad hair cut. Went in on a Saturday morning around 9:15am. Figured wouldnt be too busy. It was my first time there. I had seen all the five star reviews and thought Id give it a shot. There was a guy getting a cut and two waiting. I had to be at work at 10:40am and figured I had plenty of time.Little did I know the barber really likes to chat up his customers. Whether this led to the longer wait, it was hard to tell. When I was next up a guy popped in around 10:20am that looked like he had just gotten out of bed and started fist pumping everyone. Turns out, he was another barber. He kind of pointed around like whos next? so I got in the chair. After about two minutes of getting his stuff together and conversing with the guy in the other chair he asked me What are we doing today. I described EXACTLY what I wanted. He didnt deliver. Basically cut my hair like Im in a Flock of Seagulls cover band. Through out the cut he was conversing with the guy in the other chair. Now, I dont need to chat with the barber. I just want a decent cut. Maybe if he had asked me if what he was doing worked it would have turned out better? Basically the whole time he was distracted by the guy in the other chair.Anyway, bottom line is, I wont go back. It was nearly 90 minutes total there and there were only a couple guys ahead of me. And I had to bust out the scissors and clean up my own hair cut when I got home. The place is nice and clean and theyre friendly enough. But my experience was I could get the same below average cut elsewhere for $5-8 cheaper.
I cannot speak for the other reviews here but my haircut resulted in no transition from side to top, no side burn trim, uneven or completely missed hair on the top front, back and side. I would have said something if my hair got wetted down then dried so I could actually see it. Not that hard to do a 2 on the side and blend to top. Go to ritual or maybe the further south barber for better service than the second location.
Nice cut with a knowledgeable and efficient barber. No frills, very good service.
Went here for a big haircut a couple hours before performing at a jazz festival, and now Ive never felt more ready to be on stage! I just told the barber to gimme a mullet and he knew exactly what to do, and was patient with me while I figured out the specifics. The haircut came out better than I ever couldve hoped, and the price was good too, just $22 bucks for a haircut (although it came out to a little more after tipping the barber, of course ;) )
Ive walked in twice and had Jim take care of me. Hes a real nice guy who is easy to talk to and makes you feel instantly welcome. Prices are reasonable, and the haircut and shave he gives is excellent.
Awesome straight razor skin fade done by Jim. Its a very unique & vintage style barber shop with vintage barber chairs and everything. Not to mention they are great at what they do here. If I am ever back near this town again, Ill be sure to go back! If you are military personel, I promise this barber shop exceeds any expectation you might have.
Lots of history on the walls, good conversation, great hair cut, dont forget to bring cash. I like these guys, Im only passing thru but felt hometown.
Ive tried going twice. Once I discovered that they dont take plastic, and there was nothing within walking distance that had a working ATM or that will give cash back with a purchase (I tried 4 places). Then I came by today in the heart of their business hours and theyre closed. I give up.
Absolutely 100% amazing service. Perfect haircut. Great (not awkward) conversationalist. And an impressive attention to detail. I would definately recommend. One thing to note is that they are cash only.
Mark is the best barber in SLO. I have been going for fifteen years. He recently expanded to a second shop. After Ray retired no one owning their shop has cut longer. Sportclips: chain, Clippers: private owned but needs appointment, Golden Age: private owned practically needs appointments. These are traits of a salon. A man walks into a barber shop for a cut and a straight razor clean up. The Barber is the only place for this.
Ive been getting my haircut at Rays for 3 years now and Im always happy with the results. Ray has been cutting hair for nearly 50 years now and truly knows what hes doing. Hell take the time to perfect your haircut and make sure hes snipped every hair, even if theres a line out the door. Hes probably close to retiring now, so get a haircut while you can!
Worst customer service Ive ever experienced, asked for a hot shave. The guy said I do the shaves but not for you, and not right now. Wow I wasnt asking for one at the moment. I wanted to schedule one but his attitude and the way he answered just killed it for me, and I know that the guy will deny it all but its ok thanks but no thanks. The Ritual hooked me up and was way more professional.
Every barber here is cool, down to earth and keeps my haircut game on hit.
Make sure to ask for Jim for haircuts! Hes been cutting mens hair for some time, and knows how to give an excellent cut.
Wonderful little place that is easy to remember The Barber as an establishment title is a great and easy place to remember, but also its a name that you have to live up to (kinda like how Tiberius is a great name to give your first-born son because its strong, sexy, but also forces them to live up to that name because it is so strong). A name like the The Barber, you have to live up to it.Thankfully, it lives up to it very well. The prices were economical, and the haircut I am supremly happy with. The barber who helped me helped me not look like a bum (the thing with children 5 and under, is that they have no filter and are just painfully honest, and so when they say that you look like a homeless man, you know theyre being honest). If I lived in SLO, this would definitely become my go to place for a great and reasonably-priced shave and a haircut. They accept walk-ins which is great, but you do have to pay cash.
Free parking gas market landscape parking nice people off high way 1 near the police & fire station
Mark does an outstanding job every time with minimal direction. Let the maestro do his thing and it will come out great.
Great cuts, timely and uses razors +++. Price is under 30 with tip. Cash only
Great cut and beard trim! Will definitely be going back. Take note it is cash only.
The ONLY barber my friends and I go to. Great service, great attention to detail. Straight razor edging. Cant recommend enough.
Nice employees.
Owned by Mark now. Ive been coming to him for 4 years and always loved my cuts.
Very rude. I walked in and sat down, the barber was sitting in the clients chair so I assumed he was getting his hair cut. Eventually I asked him if he was the barber and he told me yes, and told me if I wanted a cut I should have said something... at mention of using scissors, he told me I should go elsewhere because he doesnt do that. Plain and simple a grumpy old man...
Best barber in town...wouldnt go anywhere else.
Best barber I have been to in my life, plus Mark is a very nice, chill guy.
Mark is fantastic! He is the only barber to cut my bangs and does an amazing job!!
Great haircut, friendly service. Will come again.
The best of the best cut you can get
Even at 82, Ray can still give the best haircut in town.
Great old fashioned haircuts for men
Never a bad cut here, and the wait is never excessive. Rays is the place when it comes to a mens haircut in SLO.
Too expensive for the extremely rushed haircut that I got
Because they fast and good
Very nice barber and positive atmosphere!
