We have loved the food here ever since they opened their original location and we love the location at Evergreen Plaza. The new banquet area is a really nice upgrade. Tonight we had chicken gyro wrap and lamb gyro plate...love their special hot sauce.
Wow, if I had to describe their food in one word, DELICIOUS! My company is fortunate to use them as a vendor and we order from them a lot. They are always responsive and accommodating to any last minute orders. Osh delivers straight to our office is so friendly! If you havent tried them, youre missing out!
This place is fabulous. Everything here is cooked to perfection and done right. I love so many of their menu items its always hard to decide what to order !! Their soups and gyro plate are probably my favorites. The owner and staff always provide top of the line customer service and extremely professional. Place is always neat and clean and quite spacious as well. One of my favorites.
The best falafel pita wrap i had in a long time, at bay area..
Sophies never disappoints with their fresh, high-quality Mediterranean cuisine. Their signature Grilled Chicken Gyro plates are always cooked just right, perfectly complimented with their signature white sauce. For those who like the extra kick, the hot sauce never goes amiss as well. At Sophies, you can tell that they truly care about all their ingredients and the dishes that they create. Ive tried the Lamb Shank, the Lamb & Beef Gyro, and the Butter Chicken / Chicken Mehkani and Ive ended up satisfied with each and every dish.Though some may complain about the wait time, Sophies doesnt market itself as a fast food placeβit is a restaurant. Quality food takes time and care, and Sophies definitely makes it worth to wait. They cater to both dine-in customers and to take-out, with additional options of ordering ahead through phone, their website, EZCater, Doordash, and a few other common platforms. In terms of the environment and the ambience, Sophies is pretty plain. Its a restaurant with a varied amount of tables and layouts to accommodate both large and small groups. There are a few TV screens set up for those looking for a quieter ambiance while still being able to keep up with the latest sports and whatnot. They do have a playlist thats stuck on the same instrumental loops over and over again, but eh, its peaceful for the most part. Im here for the food, not the decor and the setting. All in all, Sophies Mediterranean Grill excels at what it doesβin providing high quality Mediterranean, Greek, Middle Eastern & Indian Cuisine.
Awesome falafel. Also tried their gyro and it was good but get the falafel.
When I went there I thought it was Mediterranean like Italian or Greek. A lot of the dishes I am not familiar with and the host was not very polite in trying to help me navigate. Actually they almost seemed aggravated with my questions. I had my grandson with me unfortunately to see the poor customer service. I love to support small businesses and it was unfortunate that we experienced this.
Good and fresh mediterranean food to be had at this place. The food felt fresh and had flavor, the pita bread was one of the best we ever had and the chicken was tender and juicy. We had chicken gyro sandwich, chicken chapli burger and chicken kabab plate and all of them were good. The baklava was really really good andSomethings could have been better though. The chicken kabab had a red coloring on it which could have been avoided, the chapli burger was low on flavor (chapli kababs usually have freshli grinded coriender seeds and red chilli in it which were both missing) and did not have any lettuce on it while their menu says it does. The burger also had a little too much of the yogurt sauce.I would not mind going again but not driving that far just for the food.
We recently dropped by to grab dinner at Sophies Med. Grill, situated in the now-bustling EV square. Its a nice addition to the previously empty section. Walking in, we were promptly surprised by how casual the restaurant is. Most of the service is on you; customers pick their own seats in the spacious restaurant, and all orders are taken up front. Preparation time for the food was short (~20 min), and theres a nice selection of options to choose from. I didnt get a chance to take pictures of all the food we ordered, but the pictures attached give you an idea of the portion size for the entrees. The chicken biryani was a little disappointing because of how little chicken there was. Overall, it didnt taste amazing, but it didnt taste bad either; it was your run-of-the-mill chicken biryani. The lamb shanks (not pictured) and lamb kebob tasted great for the price. That lamb-y taste was drawn out and the meat was tender. While other restaurants may prepare lamb better, theyll generally stick a higher price on it. But again, it was surprisingly pleasant. The mashed potatoes side that accompanied the lamb shanks was average, so consider choosing another side if the option is there. The grilled chicken gryo plate had too much of the white and red sauce. Mix it in with the salad though to help reduce the strong taste. Garlic and regular fries were soggy; I wouldnt recommend them. Were not a very big fan of the paper plates. If youre eating a dish with lots of sauce, like the lamb shank with mashed potatoes side, then the plate will get damp. This allows the fork to scrape part of the surface of the paper plate off. While Im sure that this is a way for the owner to help keep costs low, I strongly urge the staff to consider switching to ceramic tableware. After all, using disposable tableware wont be a viable choice if the number of customers increases. How many paper plates and disposable cutlery will the restaurant go through? Also, there are little flies (gnats maybe?) present in the restaurant that occasionally landed in our food. Perhaps a good fly trap would be an appropriate investment. The restaurant is still new, so Im sure theyre still working out the kinks. While I would come here again, this probably wouldnt be my first choice.
Falafel is insanely delicious and my kid loves dal makhani it is really yummy
I have ordered my chicken biryani by website, when I got the order I noticed that there were no napkins and fork in the bag. I could go somewhere else beside home. Half of the plate was just the salad. The biryani didnβt make me feel full. I wish I could spend my $12 in somewhere else.
I had the lamb shank and it was delicious.
Unique, delicious food, would highly recommend!
Excellent family-run Mediterranean food place. Prices are very reasonable. Their gyro plate is to die for (served over rice with a side of lettuce and hummus with a slice of pita) - I always end up getting beef and lamb gyro, even though I mean to try other things, because its just so good.Ive also gotten lasagna that I put straight in the fridge for the next day - I love eating refrigerated lasagna. :) Its a generous serving of lasagna, well worth the price. Their carrot cake is also quite good, and they have house-made fermi and baklava. Their hummus is some of the best Ive had, since its made fresh in house. My only disappointment here has been the dolmehs, which had too much olive oil on the outside for my taste, but your taste may vary. Definitely worth a try!
When paying for my order I simply asked the cashier if they have a contactless payment system, but for some reason the dude got really passive-aggressive on me saying, Sir, I dont need customers like you to tell me how to run my business. I wash my hands more in an hour than you do in a day. I sensed that he mustve misunderstood me, but before I could say anything he interrupted me with, Sir, I dont need you to come here if you are going to tell me how to run my business. Needless to say, I had lunch that day at the Subway on the other side of the square.
This place rocks! Great food and the owners are super cool
We didnβt realize we had Mediterranean food so close. We tried the sampler platter, I loved the chicken. The falafel pita and falafel burger were yummy and the sauce was so good. Hummus was really good. We also tried the sofies fries and they were seasoned well, with lots of feta on top. Weβll definitely be coming here very often.
Our family loves Sophies Mediterranean Grill! My picky eater will scarf down the beef gyro like a hungry man dinner. My older kids love the lamb gyros, lamb curry and chicken makani. My personal faves are the chicken lemon soup (perfect for these chilly fall days), falafel pitas and burani bonjon. Everything is always fresh and delicious. Youre always warmly greeted with a friendly smile and how are you. Lets support our neighborhood and family-owned businesses!!
Good food at a good price point. Good choice of background music. The skewer platters are the big win here. Ask for light sauce on the gyros, unless you know you want it heavy!
I am one of the ER nurses at San Jose Kaiser and I just wanted to extend my thanks for you all. Feeding us hungry staff members! Your food is nothing less than Heavenly and is a treat whenever I have your food! Thank you so very much for supporting us and I cannot wait for the to dine into your restaurant!
Good food.
Great food, very nice people. Dont agree on some reviews, its not their fault delivery was late and food got cold. Ive been pleased everytime I had their food.
Wanna impress your date? Take them here. The food is amazing, the staff are friendly, and the decor looks pretty nice. Great option for local Mediterranean food.If your date doesnt like this place, thats a red flag and you should dump them on the spot.
Decent food. The restaurant is oddly styled. Is a casual place, romantic, fast food, or sports?
The place is actually meant to socialize. It has a very unique and good vibe in itself. Not only the vibe is amazing, but the food is also good. The food I ordered tasted so good, that I would love to visit this place again so that I can taste other things as well.
Ordered the chicken gyro platter, would recommend and come back. I would recommend using there hot spicy sauce its really good but can be spicy so be careful.
Great food
Best falafel burger Ive had. Usually my falafel is cold by the time Im served. This one was hot just the way I like it. so happy.
Sophies Grill is a great addition to the restaurants in Evergreen. I really enjoy the gyro plates. Lots of food and everything tasty. I usually am not a fan of hummus but Sophies is an exception. Very tasty. I would prefer that when eating in, they would use real plates and cutlery. Plastic cutlery and paper plates is ok for takeout but not for eating in. Nice to have a great variety of restaurants now in the Village Square.
This is one of my favorite Mediterranean food places. The food is so flavorful and has a homemade taste. The family that runs the restaurant is sweet and friendly. I enjoy coming here and I definitely recommend it!
Take out gyros and garlic fries just what I need.
Our Fail-Safe go to place when we just want to pick up some wraps. Their falafel is awesome as well.
Gyros, yum havent had one for awhile. Nice to have on this side of town. Havent tried the other selections yet, but should be good too. Closed on Sundays. Update the chicken kebob is good, the soup is a little spicy but good, and salad is right on taste. So all selections taste good, you cant go wrong here.
Love the lamb shank!! The lamb is so tender and falls off the bone. The gravy is delicious and it all goes well with the rice.
Tasty gyros and feta cheese fries π
This place is the best. They have great service and came directly to me to ask what they forgot to ask.
Great food, reasonable prices, cooked fresh to order. Casual, order at counter, they bring food to table. Disposable flatware and dishes not my favorite but probably help keep prices down.
Great place great food and great staff
Great food!
This owners of Sophies are the previous owners of Caspian Village. The new location in Evergreen Village Square is lovely. The food was delicious, portions are generous and prices are fair. We look forward to the outdoor seating when the warm weather comes.
Might be premature to write a review after one visit but I was impressed with the service, food, and the decor. Im not a huge fan of Mediterranean food but they just gained a regular customer.Edit: came back here multiple times and never once received poor service or food that wasnt top notch.
When we first walked in the guy on the counter went to tge back. Not a good start.Got a lamb gyros. Lots of meat for the small pita, but it did not reach all the way to the ends; but it tasted good, well seasoned. No taziki sauce, i think they used something like a watered down ranch. 4 pieces 1/4 inch cubes of tomato. 2 even smaller pieces of cucumber. No onions, olive or bell peppers as the picture indicated. There was however something hot on both ends of the wrap that i did not ask for, want, or expect. I really wanted to like this place because we need different restaurants on the east side, but not if they are sub par.
A nice local Mediterranean spot with a friendly staff to help with a pretty good menu. Lots of delicious vegetarian options for groups with variety of tastes.
Wow! How about that? So many food choices to please the family. We had lasagna, butter chicken, and greek food around our table in the same restaurant! Lots of space, friendly staff, and a lovely square to walk after the meal. Our favortites: the chicken gyro, gyros plate, and saucy lasagna (enough for two meals!) We couldnt get enough of the hummus and pita bread appetizer. Check it out!
It was pretty good. Almost upthere w Mykonos.
TASTY DELICIOUS. DONT HAVE WORDS TO DESCRIBE MY FOOD.Tried Chapli Kabab burger and coke. Reminded me so much of home.Amazing food and service!!
Their lamb shank and chapli kebabs are our all time favorite. I tried their Alfredo recently and man I loved it!!
Was a quiet environment, and cool inside to get away from the summer heat. Like that they dont overpack the place with tables and chairs. Staff was very polite and helpful.I got a gyro, and added garlic fries and a drink. The gryo was delicious, with soft warm bread that has a wonderful texture to the outside. The fries didnt disapoint: I almost finished them first. Between the two items there was some hint of spiciness I could taste but couldnt place. No matter. It was good. Fountain drink to wash the whole thing down. Great experience.
Overall good food, had specific food that is good in comparison to others.
Family run and not too consistent. We had lamb and gyro plate. Humus is good but they were stingy on pita bread was hard and only a small triangle. Lamb was mushy. Too tenderized. Gyro was dried and hard.
This friendly neighborhood spot features the triumvirate of Mediterranean cuisine: falafel, gyros and shawarma. All the meats served at Achilles are HalalβArabic for deliciousβand their signature heart-shaped falafel are crispy and flavorful. Pick a style from the menu (i.e.,plate, wrap or sandwich), top it and then pick your protein. Prices vary ($8-$12).
Good food. Great price. Quick service.
Giving 3 stars for the couple at the counter...They greeted us very well and were very friendly. We love Mediterranean food and were very disappointed by the food at Sophies :( Only the lamb biryani and falafel were flavourful otherwise we were very disappointed. Its a spacious place with clean bathrooms.
Found this Halal place while i was looking to go out for lunch. Menu is big but little confusing when they call themselves Mediterranean. They have a mix of Afghani and Mediterranean dishes on the menu and it is a big menu. In short I called in and ordered two wraps. one grill chicken and lamb/beef gyro. To be honest they did not taste like Mediterranean. they were more of a wrap than anything. I got the wraps to go and they were not easy to eat as it was full of sauce and veggies and things were dropping with every bite. If you really would like to order the wrap, i would ask them to go easy on sauce and veggies, or get the sauce on the side.I like to give a second chance to every restaurant, so i went there again the next day and I tried to order some of the plates but they said they are not ready, then I went for the Chapli Burger with fries this time, and asked them to hold off any sauce they put it on. There white sauce is more like a ranch rather than tahini sauce, as I tasted that on wrap and did not like it. Well coming back to Chapli Burger w/ Fries. That burger was something, juicy and delicious. It comes with onions, tomatoes and feedback to the owner is, instead putting a shredded onion and diced tomatoes, please serve it with full ring of onions and tomato as it will keep things intact while eating. The burger was the winner and that will definetly bring me back to get some more of that, on top of that I picked up a red sauce bottle which looked like house hot sauce but it came out to be spicy ketchup and that was soooooooooooo good. I did not have time to talk to owner at that time to ask what is that actually, but the burger and sauce were the winners. Restaurant is very clean, inside out and large sitting area. I would definitely recommend the place for large groups and I would recommend them to call them early. I hope owner see this review, understand, improve and I will change the star rating to 4 or 5 after my next visit.
A bit of a wait after you order but pretty good food locally.
Excellent humus and kabobs at reasonable price; interior decor could be improved.
Family owned & operated. The veggie mahkani is deliciously addictive. Toba was at the register and was very helpful and the sweetest young lady. The atmosphere is friendly & welcoming. This is the Absolute Best MEDITERRANEAN food we have tasted in san jose combined with service that treats you like cherished family.
Nice clean place with a Mediterranean/Indian menu.
Loved the fallafel pita.
Food is tasty, but the kabobs can be better.
Great Food and Friendly Staff!
Got there at 11:45am on a Friday because their opening time is 11:30am. They were still closed.
Great food, nice location
First timer, Delicious food! Well be back! ... and back again!
