We are just finishing an 8 night stay for our first vacation since the pandemic began. On the whole, this is a wonderful hotel. We stayed on a king room in the historic building, which I recommend. Very charming details in the room and hallways. Elevator access requires a room key, so security is good.Front desk staff were friendly and accommodating. They kept bottled water behind the desk to give out any time we asked. One night we had pasta from the cafe located in the lobby and it was delicious and reasonably priced.I would especially recognize the housekeeping staff. We had our room serviced three times during our stay and each time was impeccable. On our first day we asked for extra washcloths, and the housekeeper remembered each time our room was serviced to leave a few extra washcloths for us, even when she had to call down to have more sent up from the laundry.I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for accommodations in the Union Square area.
Classy, elegant hotel with some vintage charm. We stayed in the historic part of the hotel which is definitely the way to go. Staff are all very professional and helpful (especially the valets). Be aware that this part of town may not be the best spot to base yourself for hitting the main sights as its far to everywhere but the hotel itself was 5 star.
Fabulous hotel so happy we stayed here! The 7a-10p cafe downstairs is great option if you need a snack and don’t want to go out. Room service is very kind and goes the extra mile. Staff were very pleasant. Bed and pillows were very comfortable!
We had a great time at The Westin. We stayed for a week over a holiday weekend and into the following week. They gave us a free upgrade on Sunday evening because we were staying for the week. The view was on Union Square and was fantastic. Also a very nice hotel gym!
Very disappointed with this Westin location. With all the promise of keeping everything clean, sanitizing every room blah blah. I was disappointed to see a tag left behind by previous guest in our room!Westin has always been my go to hotel chain but makes me wonder if payng extra for service and the peace of mind that my room has gone through through cleaning is even worth it at a Westin hotel.
Make sure to use ʜᴏᴛᴇʟʙᴜʟʟʏ .ᴄᴏᴍ when booking any room. This site will compare hundreds of hotel sites and usually will have prices a lot cheaper compared to others! Youre welcome :)! This place is the best rated in the area. I have been coming here for a very long time. If you decide to stay here you for sure wont regret it.Lovely hotel with a great location. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Comfortable rooms. Historic building with really cool elevators. We definitely enjoyed our stay.
Everything was perfect! The entrance was amazing, the lobby was so clean, and everything was perfect! The front desk staff member who checked us in was amazing! She was so kind and accommodating! We had the best view! Nothing but great things to say about this property, I would highly recommend staying here!
I absolutely loved this Hotel. I always wanted to stay here and it didn’t disappoint. They gave me the option to bypass cleaning for Starbucks, and I’m not doing that again (That’s on me). I believe we also had a visit from beyond the last night we were there. Suddenly, around 3:30am it sounded as if an older couple came in the room next to ours, loud uncontrollable coughing, pacing loudly, loud conversation, as if they were not concerned about anyone reporting the noise. The odd thing is, that all rooms are enormous. You’re not supposed to hear anyone. Of course, I didn’t report the noise. I was stoic.
One of the best hotel! Whenever I’m in the mood of shopping at the union square, I always end up at St. Francis! Bar is amazing!!! And everyone at the front desk so nice!!! And very helpful!
We got a fairly great price for the hotel, but didn’t expect to be charged $77 per night for valet parking (and the staff had zero knowledge of other nearby parking options). I had requested a room with a shower bench, which caused some confusion for the staff before I finally got someone who processed my request. Though the bathroom was spacious, it lacked basic necessities like a shower shelf/ledge for placing soap/shampoo etc, and no towel rods near the shower. It took nearly an hour and a half to request an additional bench to put my towel and soap on - which again, is a basic convenience. The shower area itself (which was a roll-in shower) didn’t have an adequate drain and became very slippery, and splashed water well outside the shower area - which is both a hazard and a nuisance. Stays like this make it so obvious that hotels may have ADA compliant rooms but have zero idea about basic common sense and convenience.
I arrived a bit early but they let me check in which was quite nice. Check-in was fast and efficient and within a few minutes I was heading up to my room. I stayed here because of the history of the hotel. I would consider my room small but nicely decorated with a combination of updated decorations mixed in with old time flair. The room was clean and the bed somewhat comfortable but its always hard for me to relax in a hotel bed. The rain shower was a plus and it was very relaxing to take that kind of shower. All the towels were good size, undamaged, clean, and very thirsty to dry off your body. I thought it strange that the bedside tables do not have any drawers just to pull out slide to write on. Each bedside table had USB and wall plugs. The room had a very large TV and there was a safe in the closet. My room did not come with a view as I could just look out to the rooms on the other side even though I was on the 11th floor. The most negative aspect of the room was loud blower for the heater/air conditioner. It reminded me of watching Jets or rockets taking off on TV as it was a dull roar. During the week there were only a couple doors you could go in and out of as a close some of the main exits/entrances. Even the bar was closed during the week. It was very quiet in my room and I rarely heard anybody out in the hallways or in any rooms next to me. If youre looking for a place centrally located and has a bit of History to it I guess this is your cup of tea. I would have no problem staying here again but maybe I would look for a different type of room just to see what its like. All the staff I met were friendly and helpful.
Young nice lady Gabe us a free upgrade with a great view. Tentative staff always kind, and always acknowledging to guest. Didnt have a chance to try out anything at the bar/Cafe, but it sure did smell good in the lobby when we checked in that Friday evening. 👀🤤🐷🐖🐽.Kudos western st. Francis SF. KUDOS 👌👏
This is my favorite hotel in the bay area. We had a suite. It was just beautiful and very quiet and peaceful. Lots of floor space. Very Victorian Suite. Love this place. Wish I can remember the name (which suite) we stayed in. I stayed here on 4 separate occasions and requested, reserved, and stayed in the exact same suite.
Stayed here for 5 days and loved how close to everything this place is. Walking distance to pretty much everything around town. The hotel is quite big with lots of elevators. Please keep in mind that main entrance on Powell street is closed most of the time. Not sure if this is a COVID thing, but i only saw it opened a few times during my stay. Brenda that checked us in was nice and friendly. The rooms were nice, clean, and perfect for a night stay. They have wine tasting on-site, also a coffee/convenience store for water, beer, wine, coffee, and so on.Lastly, i did not rent a car, but keep in mind that it costs over $75+ dollars a night (hotel tax included).
The hotel room was clean and comfortable with great views of downtown and Union Square. The staff were very friendly and helpful as well. Unfortunately, with the exception of the main restaurant area by the front desk, all of the other in-house dining and bars were closed, even though the pandemic restrictions has been recently lifted. Additionally, for some strange reason all but one of the hotel entrances were closed, making it somewhat cumbersome to find your way into the building after trying the other entrances on what amounts to two whole city blocks for this very large hotel.
Amazing service on behalf of front desk employee LUIS! I needed a double bed room last minute, and he was so nice about helping me out. He was able to accommodate my friend and I. He also was so kind to give me two water bottles upon arrival. Also when I asked where the gym was, he kindly showed me. Just superb customer service on his behalf. Lastly, when I checked out he waved goodbye! Oh and I forgot to say how he pronounced my name correctly! Awesome hotel, and the gym is insane! Full gym, complete with a HYPERVOLT machine! I was amazed!
Hotel is nice, good proximity to Union Square. Clean rooms, convenient bar, deli and weight room.
Arrived much earlier due to flight, was going to have the hotel safe-keep my luggage first but the receptionist actually offered to check us in early. Not many hotels can be this flexible, very impressed! The only complaint is that no bottled water or body wash. For a 4 star hotel Id expect a little more.
Five Stars for the locationBeds & pillows were too soft for us and were not comfortable to sleep. Has Nice small place where you can buy tasty breakfast to start your day. No swimming pool.
Lovely hotel with a great location. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Comfortable rooms. Historic building with really cool elevators. We definitely enjoyed our stay.
Hotel is in a great location. The rooms are clean and comfortable. My wife loved the mirrors in the bathroom for makeup. This will be our place to stay in San Francisco.
We stayed here for three nights and were upgraded to a junior suit which helped as we were traveling with a baby. In addition to that the service is spectacular and the old ambience really adds a nice touch to it. The cafe downstairs served some great breakfast and lunch option. The almond croissants were just perfectly done.During check out a person by the name Jason Sly was wonderful in assisting us to have a later than usual check out and was super accommodating plus we were not charged extra. The only downfall is the high price tag of the valet parking. Abdul at the valet parking was really kind to assist us to bring the car when needed.I would most definitely return back but prefer a Union Square view. Being part of the Marriot Bonvoy rewards program is an added plus point.
It was a beautiful hotel. The room was bigger than I thought it would be. The beds were nice to sleep in but small. My only issue is that they close the main lobby at 6pm when we stayed there. And they only had 1 or 2 people at most at the counter. There were long lines to ask a question or to check in and out. But other than that, we had a great time and loved our location.
We stayed here for about 5 days and 4 nights. Its a nice hotel overall. I thought the rooms were a bit outdated however they were pretty large and spacious for 3 people. The location is great - located right in at Union square so perfect for public transit, a bunch of restaurants around and tons of shopping! The service is great at the hotel and all staff were extremely friendly.
Beautiful hotel. I enjoy the decor and the location.
Positive: I love the attention to detail and the sense of history of the entire hotel. This was a true experience and after being in hotels for 20 days this month, I can say this hotel was easily the nicest and best experience. Negative: The parking is limited downtown and the price to park there is exorbitant.
Beautiful historic building. Spacious rooms and perfect location. Clean rooms, staff are friendly and helpful. Well definitely be staying again.
The hotel is beautiful, service is wonderful and its close to everything. Subway, busses, shops and more.
Good place to stay. Was here last time in San Francisco.
Despite reading all of the negative reviews we decided to stay here anyway. We had a great experience! The room was clean and spacious and the maid service was on point daily. The beds were so comfortable!! We stayed on the 7th floor in the Landmark building. Alvin checked us in and couldn’t be more helpful. He went over and beyond to make sure our stay was going to be great.
What can i say..such a Grand Hotel. So much history, absolutely beautiful. A must place to visit if your in town. And, if your lucky, stay a night...
We love staying at the Westin St. Francis when doing overnights in the City (San Francisco)! Great staff, great amenities, love overlooking Union Square, and getting in and out with valet parking is super easy.
Weve started here before because my wife loves the interior and how well its decorated. We also learned they have a tasting room for Chateau Montelena which was a pleasant surprise and nice experience. My reason for the 2 stars is because of logistics within the hotel. Arriving and departing were brutal experiences. The valet was so backed up that cars couldnt even pull into the garage and were stuck in the street waiting. Check-in took way longer than it shouldve, although the customer service itself was excellent. Leaving, it took us 30 minutes to get from our room into our car. We were ready to walk down 17 floors via stairs because we could not get an elevator down. Never had an experience quite like that in my life.
My wife and I stayed here a night for a visit to the city, we chose it because of its location. The rooms are nice, a bit small, and a bit basic, especially for the price. The price of valet is kinda nuts though. But I get it, its valet, but theres no self park, so what are you going to do? Had a nice view from the 30th floor though!
Rooms were a good size. Very noisy at night, which disturbed our sleep. Rooms and hotel wasnt clean. Bed was semi-comfortable. The staff was nice. Grab and go breakfast was a joke, unless you like chips or granola bars or powdered eggs.
Nice, lacking good in-house eatery and room service.Friendly staff, quick check-in, quick valet parking. Great location. Will return.
I stayed at the WSF this weekend. I tried to check in early and let them know that my friend who booked the room hadn’t arrived yet, but my name was on the reservation. She said I could wait in the lobby. When he got there and we checked in she acted like I didn’t just tell her that a couple hours earlier and said “you didn’t say your name was on the reservation.” Well actually I did. So I waited with all my stuff in the lobby for a couple hours. Luckily there was free guest WiFi in the lobby. When I got to my room I was pleasantly surprised to see id been upgraded. But the cleanliness of the room was concerning. There was a couple stains on the couch and hair on the bathroom floor. The shower was also not functioning properly. When you’ll up to go from faucet to shower head it would get stuck in the middle. So the tub filled fast with water while I was trying to take a shower. Just kind of frustrating. The concierge was fantastic. Anthony was very helpful and gave us a great recommendation to spend our day. He went out of his way. I marked this review “good” because of him and his service. I would stay again if the cleanliness improved. It’s a beautiful hotel, and close to everything including the BART.
Positive: NOTHING Negative: Checked in after 8 pm requesting a quiet room after tragic day at hospital. Heard loud city noise and internal buzzing throughout the night. Was woken up at 7:30 with JACK HAMMERS, ASPHALT SAWING, directly below our room which was on 7th floor.
Im very picky about where I lay my head. This hotel is world class! It is right in the middle of downtown San Francisco. Walking distance to shopping, restaurants, bus stops, cable cars, parks, and CVS. The check in was seamless! Emily checked us in and she was amazing and very friendly and accommodating! Jeremiah helped us with our luggage. Room service requests was swift! We asked for a microwave and extra pillows. They were at our rooms door within 5 minutes of asking! The concierge was very helpful. Every staff that we encountered was very friendly and helpful! The gym was clean and well equipped. Room was large, clean, great views, and well stocked with towels. We were on the 27th floor facing the Union square. I will definitely stay here again! The hotel is gorgeous! The only con is the price to park! It is EXPENSIVE! About $72/night. I think thats too much!
Loved the decor and large room with great view. Its a busy area, and hotel is a nice break.
I’m not sure if we were lucky and got a good deal, but this hotel was excellent value. Very comfortable experience.
Beautiful hotel, got upgraded to a nice suite. Only one entrance was open so we could t go directly out to Union Square
My partner and I had the most amazing experience at this hotel because of this beautiful representative. Her energy transcended the personable demeanor her position required and she made us feel right at home. Brianda made sure that we were taken care of- she offered us breakfast vouchers for the morning we left, to say the least. my partner and I owe our couples night going smoothly to Brianda! I will be coming back just for her! Thank you so much, Brianda!
Good hotel, not too busy. Rooms could be cleaner, but they were acceptable. Not sure why it bugged me, but my biggest gripe is that there was not a USB charging port to be found anywhere in our suite.
Had a fantastic stay at the Bayview Suite. There was a huge living room with a master bedroom. The view of the baybridge side was gorgeous, I didnt get a chance to capture the beautiful sunset.I wished there were bathrobes but if I recall correctly, Westins generally dont offer one.Definitely worth the stay as the location is prime as well!
Lots of history in this establishment and love the rooms and view. Located as such a nkce area right across union Square with easy access to anywhere in town.
Positive: It a great hotel if you get the right room. Negative: Room was small and the view out the window was a brick wall. 2 star room in a 4 star hotel. Garbage.
Nice room. Not fancy but adequate. Very courteous staff.
THREE STAR HOTEL WITH FIVE STAR PRICES.Lobby is really in need of remodeling. Collonade bar area was closed most of the time we stayed here even when other hotels had all restaurants open. Room is not very comfortable and beds are definitely not up to Westin standards. No doorman! Reception is really understaffed and lines to speak with them every single day are huge. What a huge missed opportunity as the location cannot be beat but that is about all this hotel has going for it these days.
Our room was beautiful and had great views... its just very eerie as the place is basically deserted and they have very few staff members. They are amazingly conscientious about Covid which is great. Looking forward to seeing it back to its former glory.
THREE-START HOTEL WITH FIVE-STAR PRICESOther than location, Id say this hotel has very little to offer. With its main door closed, no inside restaurants, no flowers, no valet parking and decreased housekeeping service, Id rate this hotel a 3-star hotel- and the prices should reflect that.Yes, Im aware we are still in a pandemic, but they have had over a year to recalibrate and adjust accordingly. Every other hotel Ive visited has done an incredible job adjusting to COVID-19, while Westin St. Francis merely halted their services and continued to charge.
You can feel the history when you stay here. Rooms have been updated to be modern and comfortable. Excellent location.
Beautiful building has tons of History gorgeous staircases hotel staff are really nice and helpful and you cannot be the location
Positive: Its a beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. Negative: I understand that COVID is likely the cause, however having both no room service and no bar or restaurant open is unacceptable, I, and I think most people, would actually be more interested in on property options right now.
Had a wonderful time. Beautiful room and excellent service.
Pretty much the worst customer experience ever. Staff double charged for room. Then made multiple other charges with no explanation days after being checked out. This hotel will attempt to steal money from you. If you look at other reviews you will see this is a known problem they are not addressing here. Do not support or stay at hotels that attempt to steal and have no customer service. Or become a victim like many of us have. Don’t stay here there’s too many better ones within walking distance. Rooms were not clean and toilet had grime from not being cleaned for a very long period of time.
Classic San Francisco hotel. SO classy and I absolutely love this hotel! Cant wait to come back!
Clean, great location. If more public transit was open it would be perfect for seeing the whole city.
Rooms are nice. Great location right across from union square and all the shopping areas. No dining option at the hotel though..
Rooms in the newer tower are decent. Hotel not well maintained. Elevators are woefully insufficient and frequently out of order. I am a titanium elite, I checked in early coming from east coast but no upgrades, didn’t offer a suite as they did to lower tier members on here.I will be traveling frequently to San Francisco over the next two years as I am working on a major retail development project nearby. I will make decisions on lodging for 100’s of room-nights coming from my global team, it will not be here. Funny how poorly run properties easily miss the opportunity for bigger bookings.
Entire staff is amazing. Jessica is super friendly and ensure you are well received, even if youre 5 hours early lolTheir gym reservation system is a bit wonky; they wont tell you but its all pen and paper. Youll need their special key from the front desk. Books fast.Breakfast has a limited selection, with a basic selection of standard foods (fruit, parfet, etc).Valet service is constantly busy, and duper expensive-, but worth the cost. Theyre gated with limited access
A beautiful room in the Tower on the 29th floor. Gorgeous view of San Francisco. Cost of the room was reasonable. All the staff were very professional and friendly. Always love staying here.
I will tell you one thing that online travel agents do not want you to know. When reserving places use ʜᴏᴛᴇʟʙᴜʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏᴍ They have the best deals on resorts! Much better than using orbitz, priceline, agoda. No doubt about that!!!Classic San Francisco hotel. SO classy and I absolutely love this hotel! Cant wait to come back!
Positive: We liked the location and the style of the hotel. The room was nice and the staff were helpful Negative: No.
Very beautiful historic hotel, just opposite Union Square! The exterior, but also the interior decoration, is a wedding of aesthetics, of another era, of the historical classic with the modern high technology! Elegant, clean, bright! The outdoor elevator gives another sense of the space around ... The room was clean, beautiful and functional! The employees here try to offer you their services with courtesy and sweetness. The experience was wonderful. We came from Greece and we will return at the first opportunity!!
Bruhhhhhhhhhhh we got a room With a street view. I love this hope saying I always wanna go back.
Positive: Upscale hotel with nice views of the city. Hotel is right on Union Square. Staff was nice, friendly and helpful. Overall a great expirence and stay. Would recommend to all. Negative: No.
Positive: The staff was nice, location was great. Rooms were large and comfortable.
We stayed on the 24 floor of this awesome hotel in the heart of San Francisco. The staff was awesome, the rooms were clean, the valets amazing. We rented a car, and we were 10 minutes from everything we wanted and could see in our short 2 day stay. The views of the city are amazing. The valet is hard to find at first, but its on Geary lol.
I really enjoyed the lobby and upon reading the history of the hotel I felt I had stepped inside history itself. I do hope to visit again after Covid to visit the famed Oak Room restaurant.Id love to share more detail however its been a few weeks since my visit. I do have these pics to share.enjoy your stayRB
An opulent and spotless Hotel with a rich history. Could not recommend more.
This hotel was great! Awesome views, nice elevator experience, and you’re treated like royalty. From the time you walk in, to the view out the window when you’re ending your day, this place makes it worth every penny. Bucket list destination for sure! It has been a while since I stayed because of COVID, but google reminded me today!
The hotel was nice but not very family friendly. We had several minor injuries occur with the sliding barnyard door for our room bathroom. Fingers pinches due to poor installation. Also parking fee was quite high but necessary due to city location. For an extra cost, the city view from upper floors was very nice.
Great service, close to lots of good restaurants
Positive: The location!! Negative: The elevators were confusing, it would be helpful to have an attendant or someone to help or a clearer sign in the lobby for directions.
Excellent location! The staff is mazing and friendly and always do their best to make you feel as comfortable as possible. Starbucks coffee in the room. There are so many awesome places to eat nearby and also to do shopping. The rooms are spacious and the bath tub has a decent size for a nice bubble bath. This is a great hotel if you want to stay in the heart of the Bay Area!🖤🧡 . I highly recommend it
Great place to stay! The staff was friendly. The only suggestion is to clean the crystals and mirrors for the rooms and the elevators.
Positive: All. All services at Reception as well as Room service.
Positive: Great location Negative: access to hotel
Had a great nights sleep
The old part of the hotel that was built in the early 1980s is quaint but definitely a hundred years old. The newer Hotel is great the elevators on the outside of the building a very iconic part of this hotel and can be seen from Union Square.
Great food and comfortable rooms for a great price
Rooms are definitely outdated and our hallway smelled like cigarettes. Ive stayed at other Westin hotels and the SF location does not provide some items like other locations (Robes, slippers, extra towels, toiletries).
Ridiculously amazing rooms with beautiful views comfy beds and great amenities.
Best view of a 180 degree from the Golden Gate Bridge to Oakland if your on the top floor of the hotel..And best hotel that we( my partner and I) been to.
We love this hotel, but were disappointed the restaurant and bar were not open.
Very nice hotel, very friendly staff.
Skip the lobby restaurant. Total ripoff. Go out. Anywhere.
Were staying in the tower which is new for me. Normally I stay in the historic building and know what to expect. The room is clean as expected but a bit dated. On the Bonvoy app Id requested additional blankets and foam pillows which werent in the room when we checked in. I also asked for additional towels and toiletries and I dont want the room serviced when were in residence. None of this was on the room. So either the request function on the app is faulty or someone on-site missed the request. Other than that we have a stunning view of the city and Union Square.
My favorite hotel if SF.
They are doing a fine job dealing with Covid-19 restrictions but anxious to move on
I personally had an issue due to getting bit by something in their hotel, they said it wasnt bed bugs but it was definitely something. My arm was swollen and eye. They were notified and said the room was inspected. I do believe they took care of it but me personally, I dont have to stay there again but its in a prime location to the downtown area. I will consider it again in the far future.
Positive: Location Negative: Bed small and uncomfortable
