Hidden Fees upon return – Not pet friendlyLiving in the city, we typically rent a car every other month or so to go on short trips or run errands. We usually use the major rental companies and haven’t had any issues in our two years living in SF. We thought we’d pay a little more to try an Audi. The initial pick up was fine although the keyless entry app did not work and I required help from an employee to unlock. The car itself was good and we returned it without issue.The next day I received a voicemail that there would be additional fees as she found traces of ash and dog in the car which broke our contract. Confused, I called and explained that neither my wife or I smoke so the charge for smoking made no sense. She said it left a strong smell in the car that she detected even through her mask. I had no idea what she was talking about.Regarding the “traces of dog” she said that there was fur in the car. I explained that we did have an ESA dog but we used a seat cover hammock to minimize the fur in the back seat. She claimed that because of this alleged damage they would need to detail the car and assess fees per incident of $400!I continued to make my point about the excessive fees for nonexistent damage and she informed me that she would talk to her manager and get back to me the next day. Several days later I called back (they never did) and asked for an update. Turns out that once they checked the history the previous renter was the smoker and I guess they just didn’t clean it according to their own standards (although the smoker was charged a fee I was told).As for the dog fur, she said that her manager had agreed to reduce the fee to “only” $100. I told her that this still felt excessive given that a quick vacuum would do the trick and we’ve never had this issue in the dozens of cars we’ve rented in the city. When she refused to budge, I said I would be writing a review of my experience. At that point she said that she could put back the full $400 charge, I guess thinking that this would dissuade me in some way?Not worth the hassle, if you are looking for a luxury car just get an upgrade at one of the big brand rental companies.
Good luck finding the vehicle you reserved. This rental place will kill your trip better find some other rentals. I have rented out with silver cars from other locations but this place dont give two f$cks for the customers. I could not find the car I reserved. Stay away.
This place is my go to car rental. I’ve rented from them numerous times and it’s a fantastic experience each time. I wouldn’t rent a car from anywhere else!

Was just informed 3 hours before reservation time (at SFO) that no car was available and that Silvercar is sorry for the inconvenience, there is nothing they can do. When asked re: other location (Union Square), also no help/car available.I do not believe this is simply an issue of inconvenience, but company professionalism. The most important factor in car rental is reliability, and a company who fail to do so raises serious questions regarding their reputation, creating headache in travel which itself can already be chaotic.Reading other reviews it seems my experience was not the first. Hope this is helpful to those who are considering Silvercar for rental.
My second time renting Silvercar and it was so fun! The cars are Quattro so they go pretty fast 😊 I twisted my ankle while on my day trip, and Silvercar offered me $10 lyft reimbursement or said one of their employees could drop me at my apt. Really great customer service!! They didn’t have to do this for me, and my twisted ankle wasn’t their fault, at all!! I know that you may be able to rent a car for $30/day somewhere else, but these cars are so clean, so nice, and they don’t charge any hidden fees like post-rental cleanup, etc. always a delightful experience. The service enables me to have fun weekend trips outside the city!!They really clean/sanitize everything and even offer Clorox wipes! I felt very safe during covid
Great experience and an awesome rental. Silver car is so much better than any rental car service out there. I am still dealing with a budget car rental issues from last year! Save yourself the hassle and go with silver car!
Amazing customer service. I rented for only $55 for a weekend after all promotions and the Audi A4 was amazing. Drove 1000 miles on it, and it was the car that was the favorite part of my trip. Dont even consider Hertz or Avis or Enterprise. Go with silvercar. Check in and return were both very smooth. Car was equipped with free WiFi also.
This a FRAUD organization! Too tired to tell the story. But be careful to be noticed that the car is damaged after several days of your return. Will give zero stars if I can.
Cars were pretty light on features, plus Android Auto kept disconnecting, which made navigating a pain. I can honestly say Ill never get an A4 after driving this. They also were not there during regular business hours when I dropped it off (which is why Im guessing they tried to invent phantom damages to the car afterwards).They added another 25% in hidden fees after the fact, and tried to accuse me of causing damage (a few scratches) that was probably already there (never thought Id have to deal with a dishonest company like this and take detailed photos of every square inch). Told them Id never pay them, and fight them through my insurance and legally if need be. They actually just never responded after saying someone would get back to me, and sent a statement 2 weeks later. Clearly they were just trying to scam me out of more money, and decided to back off when they realized I would take their BS. Now that I got my final statement with the 25% in extras, Im leaving this 1 star review. Going back to Sixt next time as Ive never had any issues renting luxury cars. One lesson learned after dealing with this dishonest company: Im taking super detailed pictures of every inch of the car and posting to social media before ever renting a car again. Id be curious how often they try to get the same people to pay for the same damages on vehicles after dealing with them.
Love using Silvercar wherever possible! Great product and friendly staff.
Parking spaces were very tight. No space to unload passengers after you park.
