We had a fantastic time aboard the Swell Chaser. We didnt catch too much but what we did catch was a lot of fun.The ships crew were curtious, helpful, and generally all around good guys.They went out of their way to make my family feel welcome. I highly recommend Colette Sport Fishing and will definitely come back when we are visiting San Diego in the future.

Captain Chris was great in arranging our fishing trip for our vacation. I asked him if he had a kid friendly experience for my 5 year old son and he said absolutely. We were not disappointed. Austin and Trevor were unbelievable in their expertise and attentiveness. My son caught multiple fish including rock fish white fish and red vermillion. We will be back!

Captain Jon and Trevor were great. We had a fun and relaxing time out on the water with these guys. Jon was very determined to lead us to the fish! And we had an amazing mako shark sighting. The Wanu was comfortable and clean and all the gear was ready to go and easy to use. We will definitely go with Coletta again for our next charter.

Had a great half day out on the water with John and Trevor! Trevor taught us all about the fish we were catching - he knew all of the names of the ones we were pulling up! Captian Mike and Matt were great. We had great day on the ocean. A bit early in the season for the big fish but we got on a few great spots and caught a bunch of rock fish. Overall great experience next trip will be with same company and hope to catch some tuna.

My 14 year old daughter and I had a great time with Captain John and Trevor and Chris communicated very well leading up to the trip. In addition to an assortment of smaller Rockfish, my daughter was able to get a nice Dorado and we even got a couple Bluefin Tuna. Also, this was on the local charter, not even offshore. It was really a great day on the water and would highly recommend these guys.

Went out on the Swell Chaser 8-23-21. Captain Nick and Mate put us right on big Dorado - limits for all (including the Crew).Was hoping for Tuna and Yellowtail as well, but they were a no show that day.The Crew was very instructive and helpful.I would highly recommend Coletta Sportfishing for anyone looking for a bluewater experience. Ive tried a number of times to get in with Colletta Sportfishing, but was unable to make it work for various reasons. I finally got a date set that Chris personally helped pick for us. We killed it! Captain Hale and Matt got us on Dorado, Yellowtail, and then three schools of Yellowfin to end the day! They were patient, helpful, and a great crew. Boat was comfortable and fast. Most important, it was a family outing--I took my wife, son and 14 year old daughter who had never ocean fished before. She didnt want to go, but now shes hooked (no pun intended). Everyone was helpful and nice and everyone had a great time. We caught a ton of great fish! Thank you Chris, Hale and Matt!

I highly recommend booking with Coletta. From the reservation process all the way to following up with us after our trip, Chris and his team were very professional, knowledgeable and pleasant to work with. We had Captain Brian and Matt as our guides and they were awesome. The boat is in great shape and very comfortable.We caught ling cod and several vermillion rock fish. The highlight was Captain Brian getting us on a thresher shark. He had a hunch we might get into one and he was right! My wife and I took turns fighting him for over an hour before he finally went air born and spit the hook. He was estimated at 150lbs. What a thrill it was!Without a doubt we will be back and would highly recommend Coletta Sportsfishing!

Great Day, Great Captain and Mate, Excellent ServiceI reached out to Chris at Coletta Sport Fishing to see what trips he might have available on short notice and what fish may be running. Chris was very personable, offered me some times of open and recently rescheduled trips and described the conditions. He said we could fish for rock fish and other bottom dwellers, or Tuna was running, a little further out, no guarantee to catch one (nor did I expect a guarantee), but the better target for real fishing was the Tuna. My son and I showed up for the morning for a 1/2 day trip, The Captain Brian, told us the same thing, and off we went for Tuna off San Diego. About 1 hour out with Brians watchful eye and binoculars he spotted a school/swarm of Tuna, and with their help we got hooks in the water quickly and nailed a small yellow fin. Then they moved away, we kept on their trail, by the end of the 1/2 day we had caught 8 Tuna, 7, blue fin, one yellow fin, over 200 pounds of fish. It was a great time. Extremely professional and very organized. Not a single issue from booking the actual trip to walking off the boat with a ton of freshly cleaned fish.Captain Hale and First Mate Trev are top guys and it was an absolute pleasure spending the day with them. They are very knowledgeable and and shared a lot of cool information during the day.We caught a ton of fish and actually reached passenger and crew limits in the first couple of hours in the morning.Top experience with some top guys and well definitely be back onboard the next time we pass through San Diego.

My husband, in his early 30s, had never caught a fish before so for his birthday I set up a trip with Coletta fishing. We are local to San Diego and, although weve been on the water plenty of times, weve never been fishing! We had such a blast with Captain Jon and Hale. It felt more like hanging out with friends and fishing, which we really liked. They were both super helpful and patient with us newbies and even offered to take us back for some bay fishing after we both started feeling a bit seasick. Me and my family had an incredible day of fishing with Coletta. Chris was so helpful and informative the whole time. Captain Brian was great with all of us, he never stopped looking for fish, we caught a ton of yellowtail. He also made sure to point out dolphin, hammerheads, whales and sea turtles. Oh yeah, and we caught a ton of fish. It was the first time for my daughter (13) and wife, Brian and Mat we really helpful and patient. My son (16) and I got to reel in a lot of fish. Couldnt be happier. Coletta Sportfishing was just what I wanted for my sons 21st birthday. The crew was professional, yet laid back and easy to converse with. What a great time! We booked a 1/2 day through Coletta Sportfishing and it was an awesome time deep sea fishing in San Diego! Our captain, Jon, and his deckhand, Trevor, were personable and great to spend 5.5 hours with! We ended up catching over 35 Rock Fish, which Trevor did a great job having them ready for us to take home by the time we got back. These two know their stuff and especially know where the fish are swimming! Next time I go deep sea fishing in San Diego, I absolutely will go through Coletta Sportfishing again! Best in San Diego!

We always love to take a charter boat out when we manage to do a coastal vacation and we were absolutely thrilled with our experience with Coletta Sportfishing. We didnt expect to have much success in late December in San Diego, but boy were we wrong. Capt. Hale on the Swell Chaser was a boss! He got us on yellowtail and after that bite died down, we went after some rockfish. Success on both fronts! My family of four and my brother-in-law and his son all had a great time. We had plenty to take home and cook for fish tacos and ceviche for the rest of our stay in La Jolla. I cant say thanks enough for an epic Christmas Holiday! Well definitely be booking with Coletta the next time were in town!!

If i had to rate this ill give them NEGATIVE 10 STARS!!! Worse experience ever!! They took us in circles over and over again and when we were told to cast our line they made us reel up every 5 minutes. We paid over 2200 and left home with nothing! Both captains Matt and Brian only cared about was smoking their cigars and cigarettes. They dont care for making your trip enjoyable because ALL THEY WANT IS YOUR MONEY!! Only thing we caught was holes in our pocket for paying for a horrible experience!Will i refer to a friend? NOWill I come back again? HELL NO!!!!

Do NOT book with Captain Chris. We booked with him, and he gave us the assurance that we were all set. Then, he called back to tell us our requested day was actually booked. Thirty minutes later, he called back to tell us the people who were booked on our day, had actually “JUST” called to change their day. Finally, three hours later he called to tell us the boat had broken down, and he would not be able to accommodate us on “that” day, but that any other day was ok! At this point we had already disengaged with other opportunities. Sadly, we have a disabled person in a wheelchair needing assistance. I can’t help but feel that the disability played a part. Either way, book elsewhere.

My father and I booked a full day offshore trip with Coletta Sportfishing for early November in hopes to find some tuna. Chris Coletta called me shortly after booking to let me know that the tuna bite could be great or it could be nonexistent by that time. He informed me that we would play it by ear. If the offshore bite was good, we would go offshore. If the bite was inconsistent, then it would be best to change our trip to a 3/4 day inshore trip. When time came for our trip, the tuna had moved on. Chris called me to let me know and promptly refunded me the price difference. We met our captain, John, and first mate, Matt at the dock at 6:30. They were prompt, professional, and easy to fish with. And these guys really know how to put their clients on fish. Overall we caught 7 different species and left with a great bounty of meat for the freezer. I am supremely grateful that Chris and his crew suggested the trip change. It was an awesome experience. recommend Coletta Sportsfishing to anyone, (novice or experienced) for their supreme courtesy and professionalism.

I chartered a boat (went with no guests) in September 2020 for a 12 hour trip.I met the crew at the marina at 6:00am and they were right on time with everything ready except the live bait you pick up on the way out of the harbor.I didnt take any photos cause I was there to fish and I have a good memory.Im disabled a bit in my legs but this was no trouble for them. We went out about 3 hours, me sleeping through much of that.I woke up to the sound of thump! thumpthumpthumpthump on the deck, as theyd landed a small mahi mahi.They told me to come out and handed me a just cast line. No more than a minute later there was a good size yellowtail on the end of my line. This went on for 20 or so minutes. Line goes out a minute later line comes back in +1 fish. Skipjack or yellowtail tuna mostly.We then scooted off for other waters. My first cast the second time we stopped I caught a really nice mahi mahi.By 4:00pm I was beat and asked them to head for home. They clean and fillet your catch no charge and were some pretty damn cool guys.When I weighed my catch at home in the Studio City Hollywood Hills I had over 225 Lbs of mahi mahi and various kinds of tuna combined (caught one bluefin)Im still eating sashimi every day and rolling sushi. I even went through the trouble of importing real Wasabi root and better soy sauce from Japan. Melts in your mouth like butter.Best time Ive had in at least 20 years. Worth every penny and I went alone which made it pricey but well worth the extra.Top notch crew and service. The owner set me up with the perfect crew. Thanks dude. COLETTA Sport Fishing rocks.

All were over 36” hell of a day on the Swell Chaser! A little sore today! We quadrupled up twice and had multiple fish on all day long! Ended our half day trip with 23 yellowtail and a few sand bass. All were caught casting on lures and no bait! True definition of sport fishing! I have an outfitting business of my own on the fresh water and Was extremely impressed with Coletta! Excellent service and catching one after another for the entire trip! Thanks guys!

Chris was friendly, professional, and informative, and he helped us set up the right type of trip for our group to maximize our chances of catching fish. Communication in the time leading up to our trip was very helpful. The crew on board the Swell Chaser, Captain Hale and Mat, were also great. We found fish quickly but took a couple of stops in a couple of spots before we found fish that wanted to bite. Once we did, we each ended up catching a couple of yellowfin. We had a blast and now we have a freezer full of delicious fresh fish. Couldnt be more pleased with our experience with Coletta Sportfishing. Im sure well fish with them again.

Todays fishing trip was amazing. I set the trip up late afternoon yesterday and they were still able to accommodate us for the 1pm slot today. I highly recommend you take a trip with them. My five young adult children and I had a great time!

The trip was absolutely fantastic! Chris Coletta made everything very easy and it was no problem booking 2 boats for three days for 12 people. We did a mix of local Rock Fishing, Halibut, Yellow Tail, and long range tuna. We caught limits, had fun, and everything was easy. The Captains Brian, Hale, and John along with Deck Hands Matt and Trevor treated us great! Definitely will do this again. Awesome experience, took about an hour to get to the spot but it was 100% worth it! We were hoping to get some tuna, lingcod, or even some halibut but we had a great time with 3 of us. This is a great company! They answered the many questions we had before and during the charter! Captain Hale and Matt were right there with us helping us reel in fish! They were fun and knowledgeable! Our grandsons stayed busy catching fish all morning and then caught ling cod after lunch. I got seasick so Captain Hale gave me Dramamine and carbonated beverage. I helped my husband book a full day fishing trip 8/19 for his best friends bachelor party. I booked over a month ago and Chris (the owner!) was extremely helpful and friendly and answered all my questions and concerns.My husband and his friends told me all about their experience and I wanted to share it with those thinking about booking a trip with Coletta.The first 5 hours were a bit slow. The fish weren’t biting and the captain and first mate did everything they could to find a great area... if you are looking to sit in one spot for hours hoping and praying something bites then this trip is not for you! These guys make every effort using their years of experience and natures hints and signs in hopes to give you an amazing experience.Over 6 hours later they hit a huge school of fish and had the most crazy, exciting and adrenaline rushed experience!!! This was the moment they had been waiting for all day. In under 2 hours they caught over 40 fish... about 260 pounds!!!! It was an experience of a lifetime for the guys and they still can’t stop talking about it. Thank you Coletta!!

They warned us at the beginning of the trip the bite had been hard but they really worked to get us into the school of fish and we even caught a Mako shark! They made our fishing adventure a delight, from booking the trip to the actual day of the trip we were kept informed of everything. We had the most amazing day on the Wanu!!! Captain John and 1st mate worked incredibly hard to find fish and also help us land them. We caught 12 yellow fin tuna that were about 30lbs! Will definitely be going back!

Chris is fantastic and couldnt be easier to work with. On the water had trouble getting on the fish and didnt seem like there was a good plan B or any communication from the captain after the first plan didnt work. Over all I would be willing to give them another chance as wild animals can be unpredictable and all of my direct dealings with Chris were great.

Big Hooyah to Owner Chris Coletta, Captain Hale and First Mate Trevor on the Swell Chaser 7/21 Coastal Fishing Trip. All aspects of the trip were awesome, from the communications logistics of pre-arrangement (several of us coming from the East Coast) to the ease of finding parking at the Marina. We bottom fished off the cliffs of Tory Pines and caught a wide variety of Pacific local catch from first drop to last! Everybody had a blast and we were able to feast on the +30 fresh catch before leaving the San Diego area.

I had a great experience from booking to fishing. I took clients on a trip and they loved it. Captain Brian found us some fish despite the fish really not biting that time of year. These folks really study the fish patterns, season, tides, etc and the boat is very clean and safe. Fun for all!

Signed up for 12 hours of fishing in the deep blue and sure enough thats exactly what we got. The captain and his assistant were the best two people to share a boat with in my opinion, both of them very patient with us and also are just as hungry if not more hungry to catch these fish than you are. Lots of energy and an amazing time, caught 4 Yellowtail, 18 calico bass, and 6 bonito. Couldnt have asked for a better crew and experience, Thanks again Coletta for taking me and my family on a trip of a lifetime

Great fishing trip on the Wanu. We wanted to take our 14 yr old son and friend fishing on a local boat. We caught over 50 fish on the 1/2 day trip with only 5 of us fishing. Everyone was catching something so it was a successful trip. The crew was super helpful, always right there putting on bait or helping you bring in your fish. We moved around to a few spots trying to catch different fish and we did get a variety. The deck hand cleaned all the fish before we docked. We didn’t think he was going to get it all done but he worked hard and fast to get us our fillets ready for taco Tuesday lol. I would definitely charter this boat again. Thanks for an awesome trip.

Had an awesome a.m. 1/2 day fishing trip with Capt Jon and Deck Hand Carl! The weather could have been a little better but that still didnt take away from the experience we had! Had an awesome afternoon fishing with Hale and Chuck. It was nonstop action particularly with calico bass with an added challenge of competing with a harbor seal :). We learned a lot about using live bait, casting and reeling techniques and the different kinds of fish we caught and had a really great time. True professionals and down to earth so I highly recommend these guys to anyone looking for a charter. Well be booking again for sure.

Absolutely phenomenal time. Capt. Brian and Trevor were awesome. We did the 3/4 day trip on the Wanu. Fish were everywhere. We caught 17 yellow fins between three of us (my wife and 14 yr old son). We ran out of bait and a bunch of other boats took over for us. Capt Brian also was able to point out a whale and a couple of Mako sharks. To say I would recommend would be an understatement. Does it happen all the time? No, but we got an unforgettable trip. Thanks Coletta Sportfishing.

Amazing Experience for my family!! Our three younger children loved the trip and working with the Coletta Sportfishing Crew. Captain Brian, along with Capt. Great time Chris. Captain Murphy and Deck Hand Matt were spot-on! We definitely made lemon aide out of lemons. Even though the fishing was slow, the ocean was great, the boat safe and super clean and the fishing experience was terrific. Not to mention all the whale action we saw. We even had a whale come up within 30 yards of the boat! My 3 teenage boys and my wife were thrilled.Again, great time and cant wait for the tuna to start runningms

My boys and I love to fish! From deep sea fishing in Alaska to fly fishing the rockies each summer. A couple weeks back we found ourselves in La Jolla for spring break and my boys were determined to catch some tuna. I did my research and continually found myself going back to Coletta Sportfishing. I called Chris Coletta and had a great conversation and chartered the Swell Chaser..... it didnt disappoint! The fishing was fast and furious, our entire party of 6 had rods bent and were ducking and diving around each other as the tuna made endless runs. Our group took the early morning 1/2 day trip. Captain Brian and first mate Hale worked very hard to get us on some fish. We were a group of three Adults and three kids and the kids had a lot of fun. First mate Hale made sure the lines were always in the water and all the kids questions were answered. We took our catch back to the hotel and the chef made us grilled tacos, fried fish tacos, and Ceviche. We were able to feed a group of 15 adults with our catch and we still had left overs!

We went fishing w/Coletta on our 10th wedding anniversary, 7/3/18. The guys were professional, friendly and informative. They helped my 7-year-old son avoid seasickness and give me some simple recipes for cooking the fish. We were able to feed everyone at our 4th of July barbecue with our catch from that day.

Me and my group of 6 did a half day boat on Wanu. What an amazing experience! The captain knows special spots for great big fish and no one around. No seals or birds way out. We were on line with fish the entire trip. Our arms got tired from reeling in big fish. 34 total fish we kept and all were big from only a 1/2 day. My 12 year old son caught a record breaking salmon grouper. Well worth every penny. Great staff and we will be back!

Had a good time, even though I got seasick, but cant really blame that on anyone but myself and the big swell we went out in. Our deck hand, Scott was totally awesome! It was my first time tuna fishing, and he laid out the basics for us and was very willing to help us learn. Id definitely go back, but maybe in calmer seas.

They dont let you do much, you just stand there and watch them fish and if one gets on they hand you the rod to crank it up to boat then they take over again. Your not there to fish, just reel. Between spots the crew goes back to the top deck and they leave you to stand in the back. The best part was when the captain fired up a nice big smelly cigar to make sure if the waves werent making you queasy enough that would finish you off.

We did a one day trip with Chris and Matt from Coletta Sportfishing. The service and attitude of both were extremely personal and professional. Chris went to great lengths to make sure he put us on the fish, and then spent the time to make sure we got them in the boat. Cool spot check it. Lots of boats to pick from an have Chartered with a Captain. Lots of years of experience with inshore an offshore fishing. Be here when the tuna show up place books up pretty quick when its tuna time

Great experience. Great people. Very good communication prior to the trip. They were on time and were prepared to depart. Fishing was slow but Captain Hale still put us on fish. Didnt feel like we were lingering in locations without fish like previous boats we have been on. Already planning our next trip with Coletta.

Captain Coletta and team are top notch! My friends and I came out from Colorado in hopes of catching the big one. Even though the fish didnt quite co-operate with our hopes that day we still managed to have a blast and snag some good eatin fish! Had a great experience with Bryan and Matt. Our group got some Ling cod, rock cod, and a soupfin shark! Every time I turned around to get bait, Matt was there ready to bate my hook. Awesome experience and were already looking at coming back in a few months for a longer charter. Good deal, good service, awesome experience!!!

Just had a fishing trip with Coletta Sport fishing and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. They took us out for the whole day and we had asked for shark or yellow tail tuna fishing. We saw one shark and the 1st mate tried to catch it instead of one of us. Then we kept driving around for hours and finally dropped a line for about 5 minutes with no luck and preceded to drive around for another hour. Dropped a line again for about 5 minutes again drove around. We did this all day, I would have to say we had about 25 minutes of fishing time in our 11 hour trip.They placed four fishing poles on the back and just trolled around all day way too fast for anything to actually bite, the1st mate fished more than we did. Never using these guys again.. Be warned folks make sure what you pay is what you get. Don’t get me wrong if we had 4-6 hours of fishing time and still came up short I would have been happy. We just received a $2160 boat ride with no fish.

The only thing better than the fishing was the crew. They were the most colorful and nicest guys. Every time we brought up or lines if there was no fish, they were there to change the bait. When it was quiet and no bite for a little while they moved the boat. They are certainly the reason we limited out on large ling cod and other fish within a few hours. We had to release many large fish. Our arms were falling off from all the work (fun). We’re picky New Yorkers... they were unbelievable.

This trip was our second with Coletta Sportfishing, and the trip could not have been more successful. A surprise birthday gift for my husband and his three sons produced a total of 33 fish including rockfish, white fish and Lingcod on a beautiful 1/2 day out at sea in October. Chris was informative, patient and accommodating in planning the day. His captain, John and first mate Trevor ensured a safe and productive day with plenty of assistance where needed. They took lots of pictures of the guys with their catch, and even sent a short video with highlights of the day. Trevor spent the entire trip back to dock cleaning and filleting the catch. Everyone had a great day, and our fresh fish dinner last night was delish! Do not hesitate to book with Coletta Sportfishing if you are looking for a great experience!

Best fishing charter Ive been on yet! Ive tried a few of the fishing charters out of San Diego and this one is the best. We caught 16 fish (had to release a few), saw whales, and did battle with Mako shark who eventually got away. Hard to believe our charter was during the off-season.Jon and Hale were our crew, besides just being all around fun guys to fish with, they ensured we spent as much time as possible in good spots with lines in the water. Not sure how the charter couldve been any better (besides catching more fish)!

One of the best trips I have had in a long time. Between 5 guys, we caught 47 fish! Was definitely a good time. The crew on the boat was on point. The boat was clean and uncluttered. The gear was all in working order no issues at all. Will definitely be referring colettas to friends and family. And will be back again myself. Thanks for a great day fishing.
