I had a Dell XPS 13 with a dead battery. I ordered a new battery from Amazon. Unfortunately, you have to remove 8 small screws to access the battery compartment. While trying to remove the small screws, 2 of them would not come out. I tried everything, rubber band, super glue, aluminum foil, a screw extractor. The screws were stripped and would not come out. I brought my laptop to SD Laptops to see if they could help. Within 2 minutes they were able to remove the two screws. I ask the tech to put in the new battery which required more screws to be removed. Within 5 minutes, the new battery was installed. He tested the battery to make sure it would hold a charge. I was amazed by the prompt, courteous and efficient service. As a former IT professional, I highly recommend their service. I am so very pleased to have access to my laptop again.

This laptop repair deserves the highest recommendation possible, the person who helped me was very knowledgeable and was honest. I was in and out within 10 minutes and helped me with my problem my laptop was dropped and he was very helpfull in a way forward. All electronic repairs should be done with this company they had cheap labor costs and are very trustworthy.

Used to be my go-to laptop place due to being close to home, not anymore. The flat base rate is $100 for even the most basic procedures. Any time a hard drive would experience issues, they would be utterly unable to retrieve my data, forcing me to start from scratch. I recently went in to get my hard drive backed up to circumvent that issue; from a simple hard drive copying, my laptop came back with driver issues and broken programs that worked fine before, they literally created problems where none existed prior. These people are utterly clueless and incompetent, and I cannot in good faith recommend them.

So I had to go to these people TWICE for the same problem and it is still not fixed. When I went in the first time It was because I needed a new battery and I explained that to the manager. Another problem I was having was that my battery wasnt charging. After taking my lap top the first time, I got it back the next day with the manager saying that it just needed to cleaned. OK? So I paid 99$ for them to clean it. Big surprise my lap top still wasnt charging. So take it back (which they do give you a 30 day warranty) and for some reason it took them almost TEN DAYS for them to replace the battery. Shipping only takes 3 days so my lap top sat forgotten for almost THREE DAYS either collecting dust or they were going through my information. When I finally got it back I asked about the warranty resets and it doesnt. So now I am outside my warranty and my lap top STILL isnt charging. Not happy at all.

I took in my Lenovo IdeaPad for repairs on the charging port. The guy was very nice and had great customer service skills. Very fair pricing and I am now able to charge my laptop! Highly satisfied and I will be suggesting this place to anyone I know needing laptop repairs.

I had taken my HP Envy23 to the squad to see if they could fix my computer. They basically said it would be cheaper to buy a new one. I had the IT guy at work look at it as well to no avail. I took my computer here and not only did they fix it, the price was super reasonable and a lot cheaper than buying a new one. I have had this computer for years and wasnt ready to give up on it. This place is amazing. They are conveniently located less than a mile from my work. I brought in my wifes Dell laptop that wouldnt even take a charge or boot up. All I had was a black screen. I instinctively thought it was either the charger or the battery- both of which I replaced. Unfortunately, that was not the problem. So I stopped by SD Laptops the following day when they opened. The gentleman who owns the business was as nice as can be. I respected his honesty. He told me the issue was either a bad jack, or the mother board. He said a new mother board with install would be $185. This sounded reasonable, so I gave him the green light to start the repair.Well, less than 2 hours later he texted me to notify me that the computer was fixed, and that the repair was only going to cost $60. Perplexedly I texted back and asked what he found. Apparently the Dell manufacturers use metal stand-offs to keep the mother board and the hard drive from touching the case/chassis. They had them compression fit over plastic pins that are molded into the case. Over the years with usage and heating the plastic degraded and eventually broke. So the little metal clips were free floating inside my computer. Apparently they nestled in on my mother board and caused some sort of short in the circuitry.Well, I really had to stop and process how HONEST this guy was. He could have easily charged me for the $185, and I would have been none the wiser. But he is a man of integrity.When I went to pick it up, he wasnt there, but his wife was. She was equally awesome and nice!I said all that to say this.... DONT HESITATE to take your computer to SD Laptops. They are knowledgeable, courteous, and honest. Arent those the attributes you look for when considering to utilize a businesses services? These guys are 5 star, A+ in my book. And I have ZERO issue referring anyone to them for computer services or repairs.

These guys are great. They charged $160 to replace my mac keyboard after I spilled water on it. A competitor quoted me $540 for the same job. Very friendly service and good communication.

Had a minor problem, they were very friendly and up front about the nature of it and cost. Called the next day and made a suggestion for a better running laptop, and it was ready as promised the day after. No qualms about going there again.

Nice enough guy, and he fixed my problem in about 2min. But the fix was just locating a super obscure setting that was keeping my microphone off, and his 2min of time cost $20 which I felt to be aggressively steep.Will find alternatives for future work, despite this shops extreme proximity to me.

I took my laptop here to know if they could repair it, and they couldnt, but what makes me angry is that they gave me my laptop so dirty! i mean, i thought this place was professional.. that they use antiestatic gloves or something, but they dont, and they left fingerprints on my laptop and i cant get rid of them or the spots they left, if you look at my laptop, you would say a pig tried to repair it!

Love this place! The guys are straightforward and very efficient and offer really good value. Before I brought my second laptop in for them to deal with (constant crashing and a damaged screen) I called at least 3 times to ask questions which they were really patient with. Huy made me feel really confident that additional things that I wanted addressed, like reinstalling Windows in a different language and upgrading my system for 32bit to 64bit in order to add more memory would be worth it. A couple of days later and bingo, I was all set. Thanks a million!

Shannon, the lead tech, looked at my MacBook for all of 23 seconds to determine the problem, which was just a glitch loading my Windows environment, and the next 90 seconds to fix it. Okay, it helps that he worked this minor miracle for free. I would gladly have paid for the service. The shop is 100% professional, people friendly and helpful. If I ever have a more serious problem - like, one that isnt rooted in operator error;) - Ill definitely be back. Thanks, Shannon!

So my Toshiba Satellite A-505 with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor running the heretofore reliable Windows 7 recently puked and left behind in its wake the infamous BSOD. After doing a little research and reading reviews on Yelp! as well as the website for SD Laptops, I decided to take my business to their location on Adams Avenue on Monday, August 12, 2013. After describing the symptoms to the employ manning the counter, I was told that due to the Monday crush of computers coming in to the business that I most likely should not expect to receive my computer until the following day, but I would receive a call alerting me to the findings of the diagnostic testing and if any parts were needed to get my baby healthy that I would get an estimate and no additional work would be done beyond the minimum mandatory $89.00 labor charge without my approval. Unfortunately no call was forthcoming on Monday nor Tuesday. Getting slightly annoyed and antsy, I decided to be proactive and called the business on Tuesday, August 13 around 4pm. I spoke with the manager, an individual named Shannon, who informed me that nothing had been done to my laptop as of yet and that they were about to put it on the bench for testing. (yeah right!) At that time I asked Shannon what about the promise to call me back promptly with a diagnosis of the problem as well as a new estimate of parts, labor, etc. Shannon apologized and told me that they would expedite my diagnostic and he would call me back ASAP. Being a man of his word, Shannon called back within a half hour with good news, my laptop had a few bad sectors on the hard drive and a few viruses but otherwise was fine. I was told that I could pick up the laptop on Wednesday, August 14, which I did. His diagnosis did seem a bit odd, as I run the most recent version of the Norton Security Suite software, utilize a firewall, and connect to the internet via an encrypted WiFi connection. Either way, I happily paid the $89, picked up my computer, went to my girlfriends apartment in North Park and booted my machine as if were my first time. Everything seemed to to functioning as designed and I breathed a sigh of relief and thanked my lucky stars that no hardware replacements were needed. Fast forward to Monday, August 19, 2013 at approximately 7 pm when old trusty decided to Blue Screen again! My Toshiba proceeded to do something totally unexpected by opening up a software program called Pc-Check, which I had never used or known about, truly a WTF moment. This unknown program begins to run numerous, time consuming diagnostics on the laptop and doesnt find anything wrong with my HDD, memory DIMMs, or anything else for that matter. I make a command decision and decide to abort the diagnostic program, at which time my Blu-Ray drive door opens to reveal a burned copy of the Pc Check software on a Memorex CD-R. Another definite WTF moment. How does this oversight and lack of attention to detail happen?? My inquiring mind wants to know. I cant speak for the other locations of this establishment, but for the one located on Adams Avenue in San Diego, I unequivocally say do not take your business to the Normal Heights location!
