I brought two dresses to Sew Elegant: one to be hemmed and one that needed more major alterations (brought in at the waist, built-in bra cups brought lower). The staff were super efficient and professional, and that had me in and out in no time! When I picked up the dresses a week later, they were beautifully fixed.As others have noted, bring cash! They seem to prefer it, and you dont have to pay tax.For reference, the hem cost $20 and the alterations cost $35.

They have made a lot of clothes for me and done repairs on a lot too. Takes a little time and they require payment (cash) up front. But I have been satisfied with everything they have done

I brought a dress to be taken in slightly to fit better. The way they pinned it was not the way they sewed it. Now it’s too tight in the hips and still baggy in the stomach. And of course the dress is ruined since they took too much fabric out of the hips. That can’t be undone. Now I’m out the money for both the alterations and the dress. I feel like I really screwed up trying to get it altered, because it was wearable before I brought it in, and now I just want to cry.

Got a bridesmaid dress hemmed and the neckline raised, they did a great job and charged 55 dollars which is affordable compared to other shops. Turnaround was one week (although I wasn’t in a rush, they probably could have done it faster if I asked). The shop has three changing rooms and lots of parking in the plaza. I’ll definitely come back here for future dress needs

I needed uniform patches sewn on polo shirts, and came here because our school recommended it as a place that charges $2 per shirt. I asked about pricing at drop-off and she also said $2 per shirt. I paid in full in advance and my ticket was marked paid. When I picked my shirts up, I was told, We made a mistake, the price is $3 per shirt, and they wouldnt give me the shirts until I paid more. Obviously this isnt acceptable, but I was in a hurry and just paid the difference. I would also have been fine paying $3 at the outset. But now that I know they are willing to change the price on someone after-the-fact, Im not comfortable coming back. I gave two stars (instead of one) because the sewing quality was good.

I keep using this place to alter gear for the sport of fencing. Its not your common clothing and not very straight forward how to work with it to modify it but after my explanation, they did it right every time (10+ times). I usually work directly with Dina (one of the seamstresses there) but Dieu (the owner) speaks very good English and also totally gets what I need (maybe even better to talk to her if the instructions are pretty complicated) and is able to convey to Dina what I need. Anyway, I am happy with that place because each item that I bring costs upwards of a hundred dollars and not readily available to be replaced (need to special order from Germany) and so far they got it right every time. So thats great!

We recently started a martial arts club, and that means all new uniforms. We brought Holly 4 black belt uniforms to have all of our patches sewn on prior to our Regional Championship. The price was very reasonable, and the uniforms came out amazing. They were ready a day before we were quoted. Our family is now ready to show off our new uniforms and will certainly use Sew Elegant for our uniform needs!

If I could give 10 stars, I would! This place is exceptional. Ive been their customer for over 11 years and no alteration place in San Diego compares to this one. Im always comfortable taking my expensive clothing to them and be confident theyll do their magic.

I always come here to hem up my pants. They are very inexpensive and always do a great job. If I need them done quickly they can accommodate. I have had rips in my pants repaired as well. Great for someone who wants to save money fixing their clothes rather than buy new ones. I like my old clothes, they are comfortable so they let me keep wearing my clothes by fixing them for me

I LOVE this place. We moved to La Mesa 3yrs ago. I STILL drive to Clairemont. Hands down the best in San Diego! Been coming here for over 20+ yrs.We tried a closer one in La Mesa. I paid $100 to have 5 pairs of slacks hemmed and taken in around the legs and waist. Im not very big. Most slacks require this. So I was very upset when I went to pick them up and they were ALL too tight. He left no extra fabric for them to be let out. I couldnt even zip them. Not one pair out of all 5.I had to buy new pants. I brought them all back to Sew Elegant.

Awful customer service, asked if they could replace a zipper on a couch cushion, I guess that is too difficult for them....so they hung up the phone!
