Dont even think about going to this place. I booked the car 2 weeks ago and so I thought everything would be fine and have no problems with getting the vehicle . I come in the day of the reservation and they said it was canceled without money back.
Worst place ever I have rented a car from. They will first lock you in with low price. Then will say they do not have the type of car available and force you to upgrade. If you dont want to pay and want to cancel, they will say they cannot refund.I booked for a full size car, they said they do not have available and forced me to take one low end SUV. The upgrade price for each day was higher than my original booking amount. After applying Costco / AAA discounts still it doubled my amount.I saw lot of full size cars standing outside but the person said those are for other people and she cannot rent me those. Did not understand her logic. I am sure those who booked compact cars will be offered those full size cars and will be charged double.Please pay some more and go to a standard car rental. These people are just cheap quality thieves.P.S.: there is no negative or zero star option so had to give 1 star, but if there is any negative star option, they actually deserve that.
This car rental place is disreputable, a complete waste of money, and should not be listed as an option. EXTRA FEES IS TRUE. I PRE-PAID VIA PRICELINE, BUT NOTHING WAS SAID THAT THEY WOULD CHARGE EXTRA FOR OFF-HOURS RETURN.Despite having prepaid a reservation, the place did not have a vehicle ready. The office do not pick up the phone, because there are only two clerks working to do everything from front desk to getting the car ready. Having waited for over an hour, I got a taxi to the rental place to discover the courtesy van sitting idle, with the door open. The two clerks were working, frantically.Once we got to the office, a converted gas station, the clerk advised that no car was available and that I needed to wait at least an hour or more for an expected delivery of vehicles. There was already a line of more than five renters whom preceded me to the counter and were waiting, and there was three more customers behind me waiting. I waited over 40 minutes to hear the news. The clerk did not bother to announce this, but waited to tell each person individually as they came up to the counter.This business SHOULD NOT BE TREATED THE SAME AS OTHER BRAND NAME RENTAL CAR PLACES. I expected this place to be bottom-of-the barrel, but I did not expect that this was a scam.
Terrible. No one showed up for the shuttle, we had to talk another company into shuttling us there. When she got there it took around an hour and half to get through the line and then we’re told because we were late they almost canceled our reservation. Well if you were running your shuttle like said and there wasn’t an hour + wait out of the building we would have been a little earlier…... They didn’t have the type of car we reserved though there were plenty in the lot, but could get a larger one but we would have to pay for their mistake. We took a smaller one but they couldn’t refund the difference between the vehicles themselves. They tried to bully us into insurance. The car was dented, scratched, and had a weird smell to it. When we dropped it off there was a line of angry ppl there going through what we went through so it wasn’t just an off day. Save yourself the hassle get a car somewhere else.
WARNING-Book at your own risk. I wish I read the other reviews before booking this rental. I booked my trip through Priceline.com and a very reasonably priced rental for a small SUV was offered so I booked it with my flight. When you buy through Priceline.com you pre-pay so be warned that when issues arise you have no leverage and companies know this and operate accordingly. When I arrived at the airport I took a shuttle to the car rental center. All the major brands have cars here. NU did not have a desk and there was no information on my confirmation about how to get the car. I had to look them up and call them directly and ask what to do and they said they would send an individual van to pick me up. It was over an hour after my flight arrived that I arrived at their sketchy location. One person was in line in front of me and she said she had been waiting for 30 minutes for them to process the one person in front of her. The only employee was a young inexperienced associate who had no training and even less skill at customer service. By this time, it was over 90 minutes after my arrival. The young associate started with a rote script of what he clearly said to every customer. unfortunately volume is high right now and we do not have the car you reserved. If you want to upgrade to these two other options (at twice the price) we can get you in a car now or we can give you a refund. I told him it was not my fault they confirmed my reservation and did not have the car so they needed to upgrade me for free. This is what any reputable rental company would do. He refused and said that was not their policy. Obviously, their policy is actually an intentional bait and switch strategy to lure people in with fictitious prices for cars that dont exist and then put them through enough pain getting to their location that they just pay the extra to get on with their day. When I asked for a refund he said they are not allowed to process refunds at the site. I had to call the business office Mon-Friday during business hours. So far, I have tried several times to get through but no one answers after being on hold for a ridiculous amount of time. This company should not be allowed to operate!! You have been warned!
I booked thru a 3rd party so it was extremely cheap. I contacted customer service with questions and left a voicemail with my information and they responded quickly. Just wish they wouldve had a disclaimer about being located in a hotel and to take the hotel shuttle to the location. I took a bus and walked 3 blocks to get to the location. The rep that assisted me was very nice and assisted me with getting the proper rate for a 1 way drop off when I was told another rate by another rep. Drop off was quick and easy. Very accommodating when I was going to be a few minutes late dropping off. Overall, great service.
Cancelled my reservation within 48 hours of traveling forcing me to scramble to make other plans. Still holding my pre-payment without a refund or even a call back. I would give them less than 1 star if possible.

We came in at our scheduled pick-up time and were told that they didnt have the compact car we reserved. Our options were to wait four hours until a compact was returned, or to pay extra to rent the one vehicle they had available—a minivan. The office staff made no other attempts to resolve this issue. They just continued to listen to music and chat amongst themselves.We cancelled our reservation and are now battling with their corporate office to get a refund from the pre-charge they placed on our credit card. Avoid this company at all costs!
I’ve never left a bad review in my life, but waited over an hour for their off site shuttle. When we arrived they tried to charge us extra for a reservation we had already made because they did not have the car we reserved available... Terrible company and customer service.
First of all, there is a WAIVER FEE $9.99 - $24.99 PER DAY for not wanting additional insurance.2). When we arrived on time, our car was not returned yet so we were told to wait. The next car that would arrive was 3 hours later.3). To get to the rental office we had to call a number to pick us up from the central rental car space, which was already a bus ride from the airport. The line was constantly busy for 20 minutes.4). I asked to cancel and they said that it would be a 90% chance that I would get a refund... Wow... Get the confirmation if you can...
I wish I would have read the reviews before I booked here. I showed up on time for my compact car, was told they didn’t have it and could pay for an upgrade or wait for an undetermined amount of time. I chose the upgrade scam. Car was filthy and had a dead bat stuck in the grill. I pointed this out and was given a rag to clean the car. It smelled like smoke and had 11 miles of fuel in the gas tank. Avoid this place.
I booked a car with them because Priceline recommended that. Based on my experience, I wont recommend them. I had to call them multiple times to get me picked up from the Rental Car Center. At the office, I was told that my car wasnt available (even though it was already paid in full). The person asked me to pay additional fees per day to get an upgrade, otherwise, Id have to wait until that car showed up. Conveniently, their computer systems were down, so they couldnt tell me how long the wait might be. Moreover, they are open only between 8 AM and 5 PM, so wed have to go to some other garage to drop the car while returning. I would recommend spending a little more and going with a reputed rental car company who has 24x7 return, better customer service and better availability of the vehicles.
Please do not use this place. Waited an hour for them to get me a car. Pros UES me id get an upgrade however ended up giving me a regular compact car, but need to clean and flip the car, tacking on another 15 minutes. Terrible terrible service. I’ve never taken more than 10 mins to get a car in other spots.
Worst place to rent a car. Never pick up the phone. Rude. Wouldn’t let my 3 year old daughter use the bathroom. Hidden fees and they don’t explain to you. Worse experience renting a car. They make you inspect the car ? I’m like huh? WhT if I miss something and then I get charged for it. Unprofessional. Never again
Rude staff and their CC policy is ridiculous. Came for a work trip andy company paid for the car,, then they asked for my personal CC upon arrival. Normally they said they take debit cards but their system wouldnt allow it.They have one guy that works the front and washes the cars. I had to tell him his phone was ringing because they have the ringer off. Then he has the nerve to have an attitude saying he has alot to do. Not sure how the heck they stay in business. Unprofessional and just down right ridiculous. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. Cheaper is not always better.
We didnt get the type of vehicle we reserved. We ended up with a mini van and got charged more money! They did not give us a full tank of gas. Also, hidden fees. Go to Enterprise! Its right across the street.
The worst car rental place ever. Firstly, by not answering your phones after numerous call have been made is ridiculous. Due to a change made by the airlines, I needed to change my pick up time. I was rudely told to call the agency that I booked through to cancel.
Do not book!! Tons of hidden fees, shuttle wont be there for an hour. Your car wont be ready and youll have to upgrade. If returning off-hours, you have to go to another lot and pay more fees! This place needs to be shut down for bad business practices.
We rented a car a couple weeks ago for a trip we’ve been planning. Called to pick up the car to an employee telling us all the cars are rented and we wouldn’t be able to pick up. We tried to explain that we reserved a car for us to only be told that they rented our reserve car? On top of it all the manager didn’t even provide a solution. Is this even a real business?
This place is really great if you like weird contracts and to be nickel and dimed. Paying more for a place at the SAN Rental Car Center is a better idea.
Small place but great service. Only issue is that its not in main rental area, so need a separate shuttle to get there .. which means 2 shuttles from airport. After returning the car, we just took Uber ... Lot more convenient.
I wouldn’t recommend it. I rented car through Priceline and it was fully paid but at NU office the lady said there will be extra charge $71.19 as the drop off fees is not fully paid. And I went on NU website and tried to book another car for different dates with same pick up and drop for different dates and there website has drop off fees $0, I showed that to the lady and she was speechless and just saying do you want the car or not. Worst customer service by NU. I took the car because I needed it and ended up paying extra $71.19. When I messaged Priceline there customer service said they cannot charge you extra you were fully paid.
Please spend more money and go with someone else. They charged me for gas falsely. The wait was over an hour to get my car and they charged me more because they didn’t have my type of car available. Just don’t do it, go with anyone else.

Never renting from here again. I returned the vehicle 5 days ago and they are still holding $300 on my credit card. When I called to ask why they are holding my money I was told it was released and I had to contact corporate. I spoke to my credit card company they say no release has been issued. I called the corporate office for Nu Car they wont even speak to me. There is a recording telling you to write in, they only talk to customers with active reservations. Ill be contacting the BBB to make a complaint and Ill have to dispute the charge with my credit card company. Such an inconvenience. What happened to customer service? Does it still exist?
AVOID THEM!!!! You pay for the Insurance online and they still try to charge you more for unwritten charges on the website. In addition the receptionist is very rude and won’t help in anyway. Definitely an experience you do not want to have right as you get in from the airport.
Dont do it to to yourself. 4 days later Im still dealing with them Because they charged me an additional $170 Because they finalized my paperwork a day late and then saying I dropped off late.Not a great experience.
NO STARS FOR NUCAR, (I only put one star because I couldnt post the review otherwise.DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE- We had to call for the shuttle and then waited 45 minutes because the shuttle driver was also washing cars for the customers as they rented them. Then we had to wait outside the Office, (a converted garage) in the sun because only one customer was allowed in at a time due to Covid even though the employees were not wearing masks and didnt ask customers to wear masks. We were told they didnt have our car because we arrived more than 2 hours after the time on our rental agreement and we would have to pay for an upgrade even though our rental agreement with HOTWIRE said we would have a compact or something larger. Then we were told we had to buy their very expensive car insurance because our credit card insurance was no good in California.Fortunately we chose to find another car rental agency and Hotwire refunded our money.
I found this car rental facility through Expedia but then almost cancelled when I saw the reviews. We felt the staff was very friendly and we had a great experience! There was a separate shuttle from the main car rental area to NU but it was quick and painless. We dropped our car off when they opened Sunday morning and the check out process was quick and the shuttle was available right away! We would use them again!
DO NOT USE THIS RENTAL COMPANY. If I had an option to give 0 stars I would. Book with a bigger company. Waited 45 minutes and had to take 2 shuttles to their office just to find out they did not have a car available for me, even though I made a reservation. My only options were to wait for a car to arrive or shuttle back to the airport. They still took my money too even after filing a dispute with my bank.
They charged us extra once we got here because our flight was delayed and they only hold the reservation for 2 hours, something Ive never experienced with the bigger car rental companies. Cheap as heck rental but it was a rough start to our vacation. Will not use them again because of their lack of flexibility. Also beware that they charge a fee to return to the airport if you are dropping off the car off-hours.
This place is a HORRIBLE operation. We were promised a Rogue and even though there were rogues in the lot they said they werent inspected. Several other people same issue. They wanted to upgrade us to a Jeep Wrangler. Had to wait. Rude pepper.
NU Car really took care of me after I had a terrible experience with the business across the street. They were so friendly and polite. Ask for Vince, (I hope I got his name right.) He was so kind and helpful. Thank you for turning around a tough situation!
Place was not awful, I rented a car, I got a car. They just need to staff the location better... had 2 people working that day, running the counter, answering phones, driving the shuttle to drop off and pick up customers. Seems like more things to do than individuals onsite to be able to do and they were doing the best they could with what they had so I have nothing to complain about.
Run away, do not use!Only giving 1 start because 0 isnt an option. We arrived and they didnt come get us, called, no answer, called and called.. finally they came to get us and on arrival we found out that theyd canceled another guys reservation because it took over the 2 hours they allow to get there... he waited well over an hour for their shuttle. Paperwork said shuttle ran every 10 minutes.They screwed him over bad. Sent him packing without a car or refund.Then we got a car and off we go but their hours are limited so they had us return the car to an alternate parking lot. We dropped off a perfect car with 0 damage and they billed us extra for drop off at an alternate site which they told us to do, and billed us $500 for damages. There was no damage at least when we dropped it off at the alternate site they required and charged us for.Really bad business practices, bad service, bad experience all around!
Terrible service and model. Took forever for shuttle to pick up at the “shuttle terminal”. If I know it was “offsite shuttle”, (you need to call them to come pick u up after you arrive to the shuttle from the terminal. 2 shuttles total. Vice versus upon return.) I would’ve gone with one of the others.Check in was terrible, I see my car (prepaid for Toyota Corolla via HOTWIRE) there, but they said the “seats too dirty, you wouln’t want it.” (So you knew it was for pick up but didn’t want to clean it? And when they ask if I wanted to see it, 2 employees just happen to drive it off. So of course I couldn’t see.) He offered another (last available vehicle, Nissan Rogue) but said the best he can do is $10 upgrade a day for the inconvenience. Then he offered free for one day but come back the following day to trade back in for a Corolla. (Sorry, my travel to San Diego is with a 16month baby, I’m not going out of my way for your mistake). After agreeing it has nothing to do with my fault I offered to talk to supervisor/corporate, he “offered” to call talk himself. Of course then, they gave us the car to use.Apparently, other reviewers have left the same reviews. Should’ve check. HOTWIRE should cancel their contract.
If there was a way to give a one star review for NU Car Rentals I would. The company called to cancel on us only two days before the pick up date. This has been a terrible experience. I would advise all of my friends to avoid this company based our experience.
First of all, the employees at NU were very nice. Plus, the car I rented was brand new. With that said, I have several issues with this company. First, you have to take a rental car shuttle to the airport shuttle center. However, you have to take a SECOND shuttle to the facility a mile away after that. Not a huge deal, but you have to call them from the rental car center, otherwise you’re sitting there a while (total time was 30 minutes).When returning the vehicle at 7:30AM., the facility wasn’t opened yet. There is a sign on the door that explained I had to drive the car to a parking garage and leave it with the office there. If any damage occurs while the car is in their possession, I am liable for it! Finally, to park at the Alladin parking garage, NU is charging me an ADDITIONAL $15. Their google posting said they open at 7 AM, which is not the case.For the amount of time and money spent renting from this company is not worth it. I will be renting from a national rental car company in the future.
This place alone is a big yikes. The employees here are mid-tier friendly.. We also had to wait 30-45 mins for us to get our car which came out wet with the illusion of it being clear of any imperfections, but it had several minor minor catches major scratches, dents, and scuffed up paint. Dont come here.
Renters beware! This was the shadiest place I have ever dealt with in my life. I would not give this place 1 star if that was an option. They are crooks. When I booked online I was supposed to get something like a Volkswagon Passat. Instead I got a Nissan Sentra (2 different size vehicles) . Then when I drove to my hotel, my brother in law who lives in CA told me that they tags were expired. So we tried to contact the office to let them know but no one would answer. We arrived back to the office 30 min before they were going to close. My husband told them that they gave us a car with expired tags. And as we noticed every car in their lot had expired tags. They wanted him to shut up about this as there were other customers in there listening to what he was saying. So they ran around the corner to somewhere else and gave us a so called new car as they claimed. The man did not look over the car with us and just had us sign the papers claiming it was brand new. The car had 749 miles on it. So someone clearly drove this before us. When we returned the car they told me to drive it to the back of the building. They woman who would not give her name said what happened to the car? I said what do you mean what happened to the car? She said there is a huge scratch on the bumper. I told her that was not from us. She said that we had to pay our insurance deductible because it happened when we had it. I showed my husband the scratch that she claimed we did. We took pictures and a video to show that it was able to be rubbed off with your hands. The rude woman just kept ignoring anything that we told her and was insistent on how we were going to pay the deductible. My husband tried to speak to her and ask her questions but she refused to answer him because she said that my name was on the rental. I have never dealt with such an unprofessional place in my life. It seems that their main goal is to scam people. They dont even have legal cars in their lot and they will do things to the cars and make you pay for them. If you dont feel like getting scammed then do yourself a favor and rent from any other place then this one! I am out an extra $500.00 for this.
Arrived in San Diego and contacted NU to pick up reserved car. I was notified they did not have a car for me. I had a reservation number and even called the day before to verify reservation and was told they had record of the reservation. I tried to rent a car from another company but all required a 24 hour notice. I was left stranded at the airport and was not able to attend to my business. Do not trust this company as you will be treated like I was.
I wish so badly I could give less than one star review. We rented a car through Expedia here and it was the worst experience ever. They made us pay $40 to get our reservation time that we already paid for because they didn’t have the car we rented for us. When we came to return the car it said they opened at 8am and nobody was there, nobody answered and we had a flight to catch. Never ever ever rent a car here.

They dont even deserve ONE star!!!Car was dirty, glovebox had used napkins, old grocery store receipt dated 10/03/2020, we rented the car on the 10/22/20. Worse part was the tires, very UNSAFE to drive around. All 4 were different model, front ones were barely NO marks left. And windshield wipers were horrible. Staff was extremely RUDE!!!!!!! NEVER AGAIN!!!!! #NUCARRENTALSSUCKS
Do not recommend, beware of fees they do not tell you about when renting. $175 cleaning fee for dog hair. Unacceptable when the car was dirty inside the vehicle when I rented it.
Low cost leader. Friendly staff. If you are in a hurry, this may not be the place for you. For those unfamiliar, you have to take a shuttle to onsite, airport rentals to a separate rental terminal. You then have to take a second shuttle to the nu car location. The entire process took almost an hour from when we landed to securing the vehicle. They have limited supply of vehicles, so calling ahead to confirm your reservation is advised. If you have the time and dont mind the inconvenience, you can save 30% on car rentals and all the vehicles are new models
Worst car rental experience ever! I booked a Nissan March for 5 days in Los Cabos, Baja California, Mexico for $50 on Expedia. The night before my flight to Mexico, I received a call from a NU Car Rental representative telling me not to look for a NU Car Rental shuttle at the airport, but rather one that said American Car Rental (their affiliate in Mexico). Our flight was on time, but the shuttle did not show up. My wife and I baked in 90+ degree desert heat for over an hour, while I tried to get someone to answer the phone number they gave me to call if there were any problems. Nobody ever answered. We finally asked one of the competitors drivers if he knew anyone at American Car Rental. He made a call for us and our driver finally showed up. It then took about 45 minutes to get the contract signed. I instructed the representative that I did not need theft & collision insurance. When I was given the paperwork, I was told that the fee would be $160, even though NU Car Rental had already agreed to $50 on Expedia. I had already been in Mexico for almost 2 hours and had not left the rental office, I was growing impatient and wanting to get on with my vacation, so I went ahead and signed the contract & got in the car. 10 minutes later, once we got up to highway speeds, we could hear a loud flapping noise coming from the front end of the car. Turns out, the entire front clip of the car (plastic bumper, hood, & fenders) was barely hanging on to the frame and flapping in the wind. We returned the care to the office, waited another 45 minutes to get new paperwork done, and get into another Nissan March car. This one only had a 1/4 tank of fuel, so I had to stop at the petrol station before getting on the road to our hotel. again, when we finally reached the highway (about 10 minutes later), I realized that this vehicle would not come out of 2nd gear to reach highway speeds, so again, we returned this car to the office. You would think that after the horrible experience we had already, the office manager would make it his utmost priority to get us into another car, but he helped 3 other people with their paperwork and got them on the road before assisting us. Another hour wasted at their office before we finally got in a working car and on the way to our vacation. All told, NU Car rental (same company as American Car Rental) wasted 3.5 hours of my vacation time. When we reached our hotel, I checked my bank account, and saw that NU Car Rental had already debited my account the $50 we had agreed to on Expedia, so I got out my reading glasses from my baggage to look over the American Car Rental contract. The office manager had snuck the $160 fee in under theft and collision insurance (the font size on the contract was the smallest Ive ever seen), which I specifically instructed him I did not need because my AMEX card covers theft and collision up to $750K. When I called & emailed NU Car Rental to request I be refunded the $160, they told me I had to call American Car Rental in Mexico. American Car Rental refused to refund my money. Hands down, this was the worst car rental experience either my wife, or I have ever had, and we travel a great deal.Photo is of 2nd cars fuel tank showing only 1/4 full when they gave it to us.

Terrible experience, the car I had reserved was rented out to someone else and when offered another car that was available I was still going to be charged extra for their mistake. And no one was willing to comprise. I went to Payless instead. Wayyy better service and price
Do not rent from these thieves!If I could sue Expedia for even listing this as an option on their site I would.I have never had a worse experience in my life. I rented a car in San Diego and drove to Arizona for a baseball tournament. The next morning I went out to a flat tire. I called Nu Car rental and they told me to use my AAA to have the spare put on and drive it back. I explained to Michael I was out of the state and at a baseball tournament so I couldnt do that. He then said to go to a tire place and get a tire on and they would reimburse me upon returning the vehicle. When I brought the car back I found a sign that said for after hours drop off take the car to Laurel Airport parking and you would be charged a fee of 17.24 and would continue to be responsible for the vehicle until it was checked back in at their office so I waited. The staff came strolling in 10 minutes late which added stress to the day. Upon turning in the vehicle, I was told I would see the credit on my receipt they would be emailing me. The story was due to covid they were now paperless. I did not get the receipt emailed to me until I was getting on the plane to come home.I tried contacting them but they never called me back. I tried disputing the charges but that didnt work. I tried contacting the BBB who contacted Nu Car rentals Corporate office who said they would contact the San Diego office and get back to me. That never happened either. They still owe me 81 dollars and I want my money back. I was not the only person with issues either. Three others were there to return vehicles and two of them also had tire lights on. This company does not care about peoples safety and lies to its customers.
I reserved a car through a package with Priceline, paid for it and received a confirmation code, email and got charged for it. When my family and I arrived, we were shocked to be told by the NU driver who was supposed to shuttle us to the rental office that no cars were available and refused to even pick us up to their office location. I tried all possible customer service numbers listed for this company with no avail. I have never experienced such blatant scam in my entire life. I usually don’t write reviews but my horrific scam experience with this company is beyond belief at this stage of my life. If I can give them a negative review, I would. I went and dealt with a reputable company at the airport and received the treatment I expected and used to. I highly recommend everyone to NOT deal with this NU rental car company.

Awesome and friendly experience renting with NU car rentals for the holiday season. Immediately hit with an awesome employee Anna who was able get me in and out with a clean vehicle. I explained to her that I will be needing a couple more days after the reservation end date and she was happy to explain and help me with the process. I am renting again with NU on the 15th of Jan. What a smooth experience and outstanding customer service.
This has been the worst Rental Car experience in the Whole Wide World! Was the wrong vehicle that I had reserved made me take the vehicle because i went thru Hotwire and u know how that goes 3rd party excuse! No gas in the vehicle! Crazy!
I actually LOVED this place, despite some glitches and skepticism. I booked through 3rd party (rental car.com) because Its way better prices, as its off site from the rental car agency. You take the normal rental car shuttle, then pick up the companys shuttle (they came right away when I called them). (I couldve also uberd straight to their location as they were close, but the system works fine as is). They followed hygiene precautions, were very polite, and were efficient with my rental. The car was clean enough, and in decent condition and ran well (they actually upgraded me for no cost because the one I booked was not available). I needed to extend my lease by 1 day and they gave me a very reasonable rate. The return process went extremely smoothly. I did have some overcharges, but I think that was because I booked through 3rd party. I recommend doing it directly with the company. They reversed the overcharges and were attentive to my concerns. Would definitely recommend and would have given 5 stars if not for overcharge error. This is a great agency for those who dont need top end but want reasonable prices and good customer service.
They are located off site. Very long waiting time and understaffed to help customers promptly.
First, of all I would like to say that the staff was always courteous which is the only reason I gave the rating that I did. If you are pressed for time then this may NOT be the place for you. We arrived in San Diego and took the airport shuttle to the rental car location, only to discover NU was not at this! We had to walk down to the end of this sidewalk and get a number off of a sign to call NU for pickup, which took about 15+ minutes. I also learned from another customer waiting that U wanted to charge her $60 for arriving early so she decided to waited 2 hours in the sun. Oh and by the way the area where we have to wait is uncovered and very uncomfortable. I am so thankful that it was not raining. So now we take a trip to NU(10 min). We arrive and again the staff was nice. So as I am signing the paperwork, I notice that they will charge you $75 dollars if you get a traffic violation( I do not know if this normal). An they put a $300 hold on your credit card! So with all that being said, they had the nerve to give me dirty car! Just saturated in dog hair. So now I had to wait another 20 minutes for the attendant to clean the car! He cleaned it. So I asked him do they take you directly to the airport when we bring the car back. The answer was NO! You take the car back to NU and NU then takes you back to the rental car shuttle stop then you will have to take that shuttle back to the airport. Mind you that NU car is 10 minutes from the airport!
We reserved a car from company and we estimated for an hour to get it. After we got the car it didn’t run well so we returned it and we didn’t receive terrible service. They double our price and they were very rude!! I would advise anyone to run!!
Rental car had lots of damage, front tires were bald, they gave me a small versa instead of the suv I paid for. Had to change cars and pay the upgrade and it took 1.5 hrs.
Take uber directly to NU rental office, do not wait for the shuttle as you will waste an hour.If you are short on time, energy or have a lot of luggage do not use this service. Youll need to wait a while and take two shuttles to get to your car.
Long-story short: book elsewhere.Story: I made a rental car reservation about a month ago for this coming week through NU Car Rentals website, as I heard going through 3rd party websites like Expedia can lead to issues. I clicked on the pay later option during check-out because with the pandemic I wanted to be able to cancel if need be. I was aware of the increased in price when selecting this option. My total would have been around $120 for 4 days. I called today, a few days before my trip, to verify my rental. The person on the phone was nice, I would give him 4/5 stars, however he told me my reservation had been canceled (?) and he was unable to un-cancel it, nor was I able to create a new booking through him on the phone. He said he would call me back and hasnt yet. He also told me to try reserving again, not through a 3rd party company. I explained that I made my reservation directly through NU to avoid anything like this happening. I decided to go through Costco Travel and will take an uber to an Enterprise location off-airport for $200 for 4 days. It will cost about $100 more total, but worth it after seeing how my reservation was randomly canceled without any notice.
I would rate zero if possible. I had three separate holds placed on my card due to inept processing. I was told these would fall off immediately, after a full day the charges were still there, I called my cc company and NU Car never cancelled the authorizations, it is an additional 48 hours now until these authorizations are released. Additionally, if your car has to be returned outside of their operating hours due to a flight or something of that nature you have to deal with Aladdin Airport Parking which is even worse then NU car.
Personally, on my trip, they were quick with the handoff, reasonable about the condition when it was returned, and overall took care of our needs.If booking through a 3rd party (Expedia for me), keep your itinerary number on hand when picking up.
This car companies is an absolute scam!! Do not rent from them. After paying to rent an SUV because we needed the extra room we arrived to pick it up and they said they only had small sedans, they gave us a Corolla with no offer of a discount. On top of that, after booking and paying for the reservation in full online, when we went to pick it up they said they wouldn’t release the car to us unless we paid an extra $70 in insurance even though we already had insurance. This company is absolutely horrible, do not rent from them!!
Made a car rental reservation via Expedia.com for 3/25/21. Flew to our destination, San Diego, and was driven, via shuttle, to the NU offsite car rental location on Pacific Hwy. Once there, shuttle driver tells us that they have overbooked and they don’t have a car for us. Woman was incredibly unapologetic and quite frankly, we will never use NU again.

Prices are low, cars are clean and fresh! Location is a bit small, but the staff are super helpful and friendly. I booked with Expedia. And keep in mind, all rentals will have a $300 deposit, which you get back at the end of your rental use.
You can book a car here using the San Diego airport code for the pickup and drop off, but this place is NOT at the airport, and it is NOT by the other 15 car rental agencies at the San Diego airport car rental shuttle stop. Shame on me for not reading the fine print. Shame on them for having fine print.

Arrived at the rental car center in San Diego and patiently waited for a shuttle to the Nü Car Rental office offsite. I called the office to ask when we should expect a shuttle and the woman said it would be there in 15 mins. ONE HOUR LATER...some other car shuttle took pity on us and gave us a lift to Nü. When we arrived no one was there and we waited another hour before the woman came back from her lunch break. We told her we were the ones to call about the shuttle but it never came and she rudely denied ever talking to us even though she was clearly the only one working that day. We told her we wanted to cancel the reservation but she said we needed to call a separate number. Surprise, surprise, the number she gave did not work. Thankfully, we submitted a claim through our credit card which is resolving the issue for us. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
I had a car rental booked for the end of March 2020 for our Walt Disney World trip- they refused to give me a refund- but they have extended my credit for another year.
They took a $300 deposit from me when I rented a car from them and told me they would return the 300 back to me when I returned the car back.They never
Had a reservation for over a week to be picked up at San Diego airport only to be told they made Mistake and do not have a vehicle for me just go figure it out.. And then hung up on me leaving me stranded. Level of professionalism is at an absolute zero run is for this company as possible
I would give zero stars if I could. I question whether this is even a legitimate business. Not at the advertised location and the car we reserved was not available. I recommend going somewhere else.
You have to take the shuttle from the airport to the off site shuttle section. If you do not call them, they will not just show up to pick you up. They never say anything about this, so FYI for travelers. When I got there I was told no full size cars were available so they tried to put me in a Nissan Juke... the size of a Fiat!! LOL...I said no thanks and requested the Sentra (Sentras are not FULL SIZED CARS - compact to mid sized) that was there. The car was hardly clean on the inside... windows on inside had the film... there was like 3 cars there. I booked the car through Priceline. The lady said she would make a note that I was not able to get my full size car that I requested and I would have to contact Priceline for a refund. Now this is the email I get from Priceline:We understand your claim that the rental counter provided you with a downgraded vehicle. We contacted NÜ Car Rentals, and their record shows that you were provided a car between a Standard car and a Full-size car, this case will be escalated to their Corporate Manager and will call you back.NU rentals is a JOKE. Pay the extra dollars and go where you will be cared about and taken care of. Learned my lesson tryna save a few bucks...
So you battle to get to this location (shuttles). Then before you go in you see a sign that if you return outside of (limited) business hours you have to return somewhere else for a fee. Long wait. Then they do the scammy upsale on insurance with tricky language (do you want the more expensive or less expensive protection). They require that you give personal contact information in excess of any other place Ive rented. If you decline insurance they require you to tell then the details of your car insurance. Car was actually fine, prices were fine. I actually had to extend my trip by two days. Rather than deal with these guys I returned the car and walked to a different rental agency where I felt much more comfortable. Would not use again.
Small car rental that is not inside the terminal. Had to take 2 shuttles to get their. When we got in to the shuttle the driver told us they hold reservations for 2 hours only on the day off.. That is strange rule, considering our flight wasnt late. We got a new suv, that was very dusty on the outside..
Unfortunately NU car Rentals is an off airport location and they close at 4pm, but the rates are great and Alondra A. with customer service was VERY helpful with refunding me and giving me a great daily rate after I returned the car after they closed (not knowing they closed at 4pm). Thank you!
Make sure u have insurance policy info or u will be forced to purchase theirs. I had to do that even though I had purchased 3rd party liability insurance & my credit card covers it anyway. It was too late for me to cancel because i booked through hotwire. The driver seat had a cigarette burn & I received a ticket for having expired plates. I will say that returning the car was a lot less stressful & the shuttle drivers were really nice. I just would never rent from this company again. I honestly wish i had read the reviews before booking here.
These people are thieves and shysters. Be sure to check the tags on the car they try to rent to you. Nearly every car on the lot is expired. Their excuse is that we are in a Covid system. However, my car is registered my husbands car is registered and pretty much everybody else I know when the state of California has been able to register their car despite the Covid restrictions. These are shysters and thieves. They won’t give back of $300 deposit without threats.
No trouble picking up the car. The 2 shuttle thing was annoying but thats not unusual to have the economy rental off site. They are actually OPEN from 8am to 3pm on weekends at this San Diego location despite what Google map says. Cast was clean and new and $16 per day. We had our own auto insurance and had no trouble declining the loss damage waiver.
Worst service I have experienced, the lady at the counter was extremely unhelpful and rude. I have never been treated so poorly at an establishment.
Can I leave a negative number of stars? If you want to know what bad faith, deceit and unprofessionalism mean then look no further! NU Car Rental will give you a practical lesson. I should have read more all the shady practices described in the existing reviews!

A hands-down fantastic car rental experience. Incredibly kind and polite representative that helped me through the whole process as a Canadian. The car was clean and barely driven (less than 3,000 miles on the ODO). We were able to add an extra day to the rental very easily. They also have a clean van and friendly driver that takes you to / from the airport shuttle building. All in all, a smooth experience. Highly recommended.
Dont trust them on the shuttle system from the airport. Just get an Uber/Lyft.
Almost fraudulous: they charged me a deposit when I picked up the car and it appeared to be an insurance waiver that I didn’t need neither intend to accept. This practice looks like those dirty tricks/scams, that low cost rental car companies implemented, almost legally, to rob people!

I am a hotel manager 2 blocks a away we do refer customers to this location. I booked a car for myself when picking it up they told me because I’m a local I only get 100 miles per day. When the confirmation email says unlimited mileage they were very rude. I did let my other sister properties know not to refer anyone to this location it is bad service bad manager. You would think they would be nice because of covid and they wear no masks. DONT RENT
Absolutely horrible. cars were dirty and they don’t wash them UNTIL you show up, reservations basically are useless. they took forever and made us wait. never coming here again. not to mention they don’t even dry them! lazy and left waterspots all over the paint please do better
Two flat tires, unsafe driving conditions and unhelpful employees, hands down the worst car rental experience Ive ever had.
Anna was amazing, we had some financial difficulties and was very supportive and even waved a couple of fees, she is the epitome of good customer service.
They gave me a Nissan Rogue and as soon as I was on the road there was a mechanical noise. 3 wks later, I got a nail on my tire after business hours and i called multiple times and no one returned my calls and their roadside assistance number NO ONE ANSWERS.
I will never come here, should have zero stars. Took forever, most inconvenient place to Rent a Car.
