Ive had mixed experiences at this location over the past several years. Service has been challenging during the pandemic, as to be expected. But I wanted to give a shoutout to Marty. He did a great job at answering my questions and efficiently working through all the complications of my reservation. I hope to see his smiling face behind the desk the next time I rent through Hertz. Bravo Marty!
I had an amazing rental experience here. I reserved a full-size and when I came here it said on the screen that I should go to the presidential section. I had been expecting an upgrade as I am a Hertz Presidential member but was expecting maybe a premium car. When I went to the presidential section there was a Ford Explorer!!! Someone got the Cadillac before me 😭. Really smooth check out experience! Highly recommend renting from Hertz!
I want to warn people of Hertzs poor customer support!My nephew took time to contact all the agencies needed, to ensure a glitch-free vacation. The family was scheduled for an early morning departure from SLC to SAN. UBER was scheduled to pick up early enough to get to the airport early, but the UBER driver flaked and cancelled his pickup at the last minute! This caused a domino effect.... They were late for check in, and the next available flight gave them a 5 hour difference. My nephew called Hertz several times to alert them and to request that they not give away their reservation. Nobody picked up the phone, the phone just rang. They werent given any kind of information on how to handle a situation like this. Once they finally contacted a representative, the feeling was that things were going to be ok, they would be taken care of.Once they arrived in San Diego, we didnt know where to go to receive the car! There were two Hertz locations within 2 miles of the airport! But nobody from Hertz ever explained where to go or how to get there! Now after a long day of travel mishaps, we are greeted with yet another hurdle!Once you arrive at the San Diego airport you have to figure out ANOTHER transport to get to your rental car, a mile away!Finally arriving at the rental building and over-due for a break in this chaotic day, my nephew was charged an EXTRA $200 that we werent expecting! No explanation, but worse, no warning!We learned a few things on this trip... 1. We wont trust Uber again.2. We will never use Hertz again, and we wont be recommending their service to anyone in need of a rental! Customer care is part of customer service, and Hertz showed no care! Byyyyyyyye!
Making the reservation was easy and quick - that’s the only reason this has two stars and not one. The hidden fees on the reservation nearly doubled the cost they had quoted initially. Even coming back with a full tank filled not 2 minutes before dropping off the car, the representative at drop off insisted that the gas tank was not full and charged me >$30 dollars for gas upon return. It’s a scam - be ready to pay far more than the advertised amount.
Perfect service friendly personal down to earth. I’m a simple guy really yet very successful in business and enjoy many friendships. Heart steps up every time to take care of me. I’m finicky sometimes wanting to make a last minute change or substitution on a car. Agents made on the spot calls around town to find the Chevy Camero SS I’ve so enjoyed 4 times this last year. Been my pleasure .
We reserved our car online. Everything was super easy! All the signage to/from the airport is very good and easy to follow. Picking up and dropping off was a breeze. Would definitely use them again!
Amanda was awful to some customers. Made them feel dumb when they didn’t notice hidden fees. If you’re gonna act like that, don’t be in customer service!!! Thankfully, we checked out with Jorge. He was welcoming and nice.

We reserved a vehicle and promised that they were 24 hours and picking up a vehicle will be 0 issues. Flight landed at 10:30pm on June 28th and we showed up at the counter with them being closed, along with a huge line of angry customers… they didn’t wait for the late flights or the flights that got delayed and a whole line of us were sat there without a vehicle stressed and not knowing what to do! We just flew cross country and on a 6 hour flight and that was the last thing we needed. Luckily, Avis came to our rescue and had ONE van that could fit our big family. No thanks to Hertz for being closed when they said they were going to be open
Amanda from the customer service had an attitude the entire time. She was bothered when asked questions and made me feel like I was dumb for asking. She was rude. I will never go back to this Hertz. Poor customer service

Our flight got in flight late so we just barely missed the midnight closing time. Generally we use hertz because if you give them your flight number and said flight runs late theyll make sure to leave someone there so youre not stranded in the middle of the night. That said I understand it was after hours, however the decent thing to do would be to send an email or leave a voicemail explaining that as it was past closing theyd be taking a day off of our reservation and we could pick up the rental the next day

They have 2 lines with no priority to gold members, no organization taking forever to do the simplest thing
When i returned the car, only the COVID disinfectant guy was there, and he said it would be a 30 minute wait before any other Hertz employee showed up to give me a receipt, etc. I filled the gas all the way, but they not only charged me for 2 gallons an hour later, but the price was more than 3 times what gas costs. Ive been a Hertz Gold over 20 years, but they would not remove the charge. They deserve to be in bankruptcy.
We got a 2018 with almost 40k miles on it. The battery to the fob died and trying find someone to talk to is basically impossible.

I would rate lower but I have to give at least one undeserved star. They had already taken thier money from my acct and when we flew in from Denver on Christmas Eve we took the shuttle to the rental place. We were told we cant have a car we already paid for because we hadnt booked a flight flying out of San Diego? Why would we book a flight out of where we just returned to? We needed the car to get home! We got stranded in San Diego on Christmas Eve! It cost me another $100 to get home and start fighting to get my money back! Now I have been told I dont get my money back! So go ahead and pay for a car and see what happens! I thought Hertz was a good choice but I guess not! Dont lose your money!
I am a president circle member for hertz, and last week i went to hertz after i had a few problems with my car, Antony and Alfonso immediately were there to offer help and very fast and efficiently they fixed the problem. i never before got such a great service with any car rental company, i highly recommend hertz from today on.
They didnt have the Comlact that was reserved, so I was upgraded to a Fill Sized at no extra cost.Car was clean and had just been detailed.
This location is seriously understaffed.At noon on a Monday there were only two employees serving customers, in a lobby that has *ten* service counters. When I went in, there were eight people waiting to be served. When I left there were even more people in line. Potential customers were walking out the door to try the other rental services because they didnt want to wait.The employees Ive interacted with have been great, always friendly and efficient. But whoever is in charge of staffing this location should be fired. Theres plenty of people looking for jobs right now due to COVID. I wouldnt believe any claim that they cant find candidates to hire.Especially because of COVID, the company should be taking steps to ensure that customers arent waiting in the lobby for half an hour. If half of the service counters were manned, theres plenty more than six feet between each employee. The understaffing just looks like management penny-pinching, and its damaging their customer service. At an international airport, this is just ridiculously unprofessional.
Came here April 10th i was here for about an hour in line behind 10 other people when there was 3 other workers extremely slow other workers continued to walk out and not help at all. When I finally did get in the line the lady serving me gave me the hardest time of my life because of this place i was late to my reservations
Pick any car you want from Presidents Club so long as it is the one and only car available. Still got a decent vehicle and easy exit. Bus to rental car center takes way too long and contrary to guidelines they are waiting to fill every bus before it departs.
Awful customer service. Opened late. Hard to find. PCs dont work. The only helpful person was the shift manager.
The whole staff went above and beyond to make renting a vehicle as easy as possible. I felt very safe with the extra steps due to Covid-19. Every employee was wearing a mask and taking appropriate precautionary steps. If you need a vehicle in San Diego let this staff take care of all your rental needs. You wont be disappointed.

Here are my kids while I go on a wild goose chase to three different Hertz locations for an hour plus all around San Diego. Nice start to the vacation. If you are looking for a rental car in this location, I highly recommend you avoid this company at all costs! They did nothing to help ease this inconvenience other than point us to the wrong location. Not even a cab voucher...very disappointing experience.
I was charged extra a few weeks after renting a car from them despite getting a receipt at time of return for a regular charge. I called their customer service to ask what the charge was for and they couldn’t tell me. Wait time on phone was 2 hours, their staff was incompetent and didn’t know an answer.
Really convenient pickup process for gold plus rewards member. Just go to the assigned zone and drive off the chosen vehicle!I made a terrible mistake with my reservation today (5/6/2017). Luckily, the lady at the directory board was super helpful and was able to fix the problem for us. After the problem is resolved, we drove off to San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Made it in time for the reserved activities :-)
Paid for a midsize car and they gave me a compact instead, they would not give me a midsize car despite the receipt clearly stating i paid for a midsize.
Had a reservation for 2 months, 1 week before the price doubled to $2000 for the week. Go to call and complain and a robot tells me I will be charged a 5% fee (100$) for even talking to a representative about my reservation. Actual robery. Avoid.
I’m a president member for hertz and yet many times i come and i need to fight for good service, this time i was there i a manager called Matt helped me, he was really understanding and helped me quickly, I’m very satisfied and i want you to know that I’ll be recommending hertz because of Matt.

I absolutely love their service..And wouldnt use anyone else, especially being a Gold Card Member. My ONLY complaint THIS TIME, was the sanitizing spray they are using for inside the car to disinfect for the Corona virus. It had splattered on the windshield, and driving facing the sun made it almost impossible to see. And trying to wipe it made it worse.
So while I will say prices are good, buyer beware you will only receive one set of Keys, so figure additional $200-1200 for 2nd key. Plan on spending about another $200-400 to have detailed because it will need it, they look clean but lots of a scratches. Check ALL fluids levels because they don’t. Check tires closely for sidewall damage for all the renters who hot curbs. If your buying for out of State you still have to register in California 500-900, plus 7 % sales tax.

Their team can not be bothered to help you, and would rather give you to someone else instead of actually addressing the issue. Forgot a valuable in the car. Was asked to call back on a particular date. Did. Got spoken to rudely and passed around. Got hung up on. Tried and tried again. I forgot an item, sure. They couldn’t even try to help.
I was very pleased today and on my previous rental on how attentive the representatives at this San Diego airport location are with their customers. And a special thanks need to go to Marti. I was blessed twice to get him for my second visit. He actually went out of his way in finding me the best rate possible for my rental. I am grateful for his work. And I thank him for starting off my trip in such wonderful way.
They were completely unprofessional, we had a problem and they couldnt help us with a solution, so we went to payless car rental and they gave us the same rate as hertz. We ended up canceling the car rental at hertz

When I rent a car, no gold standard clean sealing. After driving some hours, I found out the car was full of ants and bugs. No doubt they did not disinfect the car during this covid 19 crisis
Quite expensive yes i know i was dropping in utah but for a compact car that was quite dirty hard pass dont recommend ever using these guys. Watch using them they try to increase rates on you all sneaky like bad business
I went to pick up my car an hour later than picking up time, but it wasnt even cleaned. So another 20 minutes later I got a clean car but on the way my trip I found out one of the indicator wasnt working. So, may be its better call them first and confirm before going there. Other than that its pretty straight forward simple process. Dropping off took only 2 minutes.

Great experience here. Friendly staff, they worked through the line efficiently and provided water bottles for waiting guests. Car was great, was allowed to take any in the whatever zone and ended up with a small suv that suited us nicely. No trouble with the return. Will rent from them again provided prices are competitive.
Made a reservation with Dollar Car Rental via my Southwest app. At the airport, Hertz is coordinating all Dollar rentals. I had specifically reserved a jeep and they gave it away, so they upgraded me for free which is nice, but still not at all what we wanted for our beach trip. Then I get a threatening call saying I have kept the car (that I didnt want) longer than the agreement and certain measures will be taken against me if I dont return it. So I call to correct the contract and get rushed off the phone. This has been a very frustrating process. Theres no point in reserving a car in advance with these companies. They dont look at your reservation when you arrive, so they dont reserve the requested cars and they get the dates wrong. Id go with enterprise next time.

We ended up at the wrong location at Hertz to pickup our vehicle and the staff member (Elaine!) Was the most helpful and informative person. She helped us change our reservation so that we could pick up at that location for ease of heading to the airport. She helped us get a car that suited our needs for the trip and manage our reservation in the most helpful and considerate way. I would highly recommend using Hertz and ensure you select the airport location if you are accessing the airport in San Diego!
Filled vehicle full of gas 1.2 miles from the rental lot. Cheerful return agent told me that everything looks good and I agreed to the email receipt. I was then charged $20 for what Hertz claimed was leaving the vehicle 7/8ths full. Watch for this nice money making scheme, that leaves little recourse for the renter. Take pictures, keep gas receipts and get a paper rental charge summary to keep Hertz San Diego Airport honest.

They are okay. The particular airport I went to They sent you out into a lot. And said find your car. No one was out there to give any assistance. And you cant just get any car. You have to get one in the group rate that you are renting in. Such as full size midsize compact Etc and other than the full-size Vehicles all the other ones look the same but are not so I wasted 20 minutes. Looking around and then finally went to get somebody who took me right to where I needed to go
Being a Gold Member has its advantages. You just walk out pick a car in your category and drive off. The guy at the gate gives you the rental agreement. No fuss....you are out of there in no time. Highly recommend join Hertz Gold. Selection of cars is very good.
Our teller was nice. Outside there are crepes. We did not eat them, but nonetheless it was nice to know we could have.
A well designed building for the purpose it serves. Be aware that ALL rental car agencies are under one roof. You will have to take an airport bus to the rental center. From there, 12+ car rental agencies are at your disposal. Checkout is painless and unique.
I booked through the Hertz website.Check-in staff at the office/pick-up desk were friendly and helpful with the questions I had.Easy walk around the corner from the office to the lot - located on the same level.Found my zone/bays of vehicles to choose from - there were two cars left to pick - it was 11pm at night.Chose my car, had it scanned at the parking lot gate on the way out by the staff, nice and quick and then I was off.Car was clean.In good mechanical condition other than one small issue, but nothing I couldnt put up with.Returned the car around 5pm after filling up on gas nearby.Must have been a quiet time as there were 3 staff available at the drop off zone of the parking lot.The staff member gave a quick check over of the vehicle while I unloaded my luggage. The staff then offered to print up or email my receipt and then directed me to the airport shuttle pick up point, which again was all on the same level - handy for those with luggage.(For $30US there is the option to pre-book and be driven by Hertz directly to the airport terminal at drop off, but I was happy with the shuttle bus service).No surprise additions to the bill after returning the car is always a relief too when hiring a rental.Overall I had pleasant experience with my rental from Hertz San Diego Airport.
DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ!! Terrible customer service. They placed me on the do not rent list because someone else used my ID number to rent a car & now HERTZ is tell me the only way I can get off the list is to get a new drivers license from the DMV!! Checked-in at the video booth, the process was easy and the service super nice. I was offered an upgrade and went to grab my car from the car park. As I was driving out the staff at the gate told me that I wasnt allowed to leave with the car I was in as these cars arent allowed to leave the lot. I had to drive back although my contract clearly stated the vehicle including license plate number. I then went to the lot manager and he explained that all of the bigger cars were reserved and that he could not honor my contract. He then downgraded me to a much smaller, older car. When I complained the manager offered that I could pay to upgrade and take the car that I had before - so the statement that they were all reserved was clearly a lie. All in all this was a terrible experience and wasted a significant amount of time. As this is the second time I have had a bad experience with Hertz I cancelled my next booking and will not return to Hertz.

Rented from here a couple times recently and theyve been consistently pretty good. As a Presidents Circle member the vehicle selection has been decent, always lots of cars in the lot and occasionally a convertible or luxury car in PC but usually Impalas.
Worst experience of car rental. Long queues and not enough agents.
Only way to go is Hertz Gold. Set it all up prior otherwise could you wait in line better to go with Enterprise
Not sure why companies make it so difficult to do business. Been a Hertz Gold for over 20 years Recently had a rental for business for half a week and rental with Points for leisure for second half with same class of vehicle. Called to asked to just keep car without returning to airport mid week (have done this before. Nope would not allow it. Will begin considering other rental car options moving forward. Pay too much money with Hertz not to have better customer service than this.
Long lines and the representatives kept walking away from the desk for some unknown reason and increasing wait times. Once I got to the desk it was smooth and the staff was responsive.
We have had some bad experiences and now choose hertz. It is worth getting their gold status, to walk up choose a car and leave. The cars have all been on the newer side. No issues
Expect Fees, hidden fees that were not in your original quote. Its a frustrating practice. Leave out the fees to keep the quote low and stick it to you in the end. Just make sure you get your quote with all fees included.Also, I used toll roads, and I straight asked the guy how much does Hertz charge to pay them in case I forgot to do it when I got home. Guy told me 6.99. I thought not bad, but nope. It was a 11.90 convenience fee. And its not about the extra 5 dollars. Its the fact that the guy lied right to me.Other than that, car was clean and ran well. Facility was excellent, thanks to those hidden fees.

We recently traveled to San Diego and rented a vehicle from Hertz. What a pleasant experience all around. The customer service rep was very helpful and so polite. The vehicle she recommended was perfect fit or needs. We were able to pick up and drop off the vehicle without any issues and in a short period of time. Thank you Hertz and hats off to all your staff. I would highly recommend your business to others and Hertz will always be our first choice when renting. I arrived late, about 11PM that evening after a long day of work and travel. There are two Hertz Check-In sites, and I managed to end up at the wrong one. Because there was no line, the customer service representative was able to see me at that counter rather than sending me down to the other check-in site. First Kudos. Second, there was a wrong location on my drop off site, which the customer service representative caught and corrected. Second Kudos. This threw off my original booking amount by 400 dollars. She immediately contacted the manager, who made the necessary adjustments to honor my original booking price. He did it with care and attentiveness, and not one bit of eye rolling or talking down to me. He treated me like a long time customer. Third, Fourth, and Fifth Kudos. I will be using Hertz from now on.

Cool place nice an big. There next to all the other car rental places on Admiral st. If your looking for a bigger or smaller.car better to make a RSVP to the make an model your looking for. The employees are super nice an willing to help you out anyway they can. Enjoy your stay in San Diego spend lots of money an go back home with the best memories.
A Hertz representative told me over the phone that this location had 3 different type of BMWs and 2 Mercedes Convertibles. Once I arrived I was told a completely different story by one of the check-in employees. I was told they no longer offered the BMW convertibles or the Mercedes convertibles in a certain car class. I asked Onceif I could pay extra or upgrade my car class inorder to have access to those vehicles and still was told that they no longer had those vehicles. I checked in and was given instructions on where a convertible Ford Mustang was located. Once in the garage I seen those vehicles parked in a non-reserved parking area. I dont appreciate being lied to or told two different stories about what vehicles were available. The customer should always be #1 and in this particular situation I wasnt treated very fairly.

Wish I could give a 1/2 star.Our first time using Hertz.It will be our last.They told us a credit card was needed at time of arrival. Perfect!We get there, I have a credit card, my wife a separate one, we both have debit cards, and cash with. They told us at the COUNTER that Navy Federal credit cards (with VISA logos, mind yo ) werent valid... WTF?Can I use debit? No. CREDIT only.I have cash... Can Whig cash down payment /deposit work? *looked at me like I had 3 heads*So, now, were OUT $3xx.00 dollars for 7 - 10 business days... But they can sure take my money in THREE MINUTES.Not to mention, we missed our first vacation stop of the day, dealing with Hertz for 4 HOURS.Enterprise got us a vehicle within 8 minutes of walking thru their door... Navy Federal? Why wouldnt ANYONE accept that? asked the customer rep....Never again with Hertz... Literally....never... 🤷♂️
While on vacation in San Diego ran into 2 issues when renting with Hertz. The first, I booked a van in advance of the trip at a rate below $500. Upon arriving no vans were available and the host attempted to charge ~$1,000 for a like and kind vehicle. Second issue was around a parking ticket, I received a ticket and paid it directly to the San Diego Municipality, Hertz also paid (not sure why) and charged me a $30 administrative fee. Positive note the vehicle provided in place of the van was nice and completely clean. When I go back to San Diego I will not be using Hertz for future rentals.

Perfect experience. My Chevy Suburban was waiting for me when I arrived in San Diego. I added a second driver when I got there and there was no additional charge. Customer service was great. Online rental was easy and the price was very reasonable. I never drove such a large vehicle but needed it for the six men in our group and it drove amazingly well worth decent gas mileage. The car return was even easier! I have another Hertz reservation for my trip with my wife to the National Parks out west this Spring.One interesting change at the airport is that the car rental agencies now share the same shuttle and Hertz was the first stop.
Usually I have a really good experience with with Hertz, but yesterday was horrible. I had a representative who was so rude, actually almost the entire staff was rude.
Flew in from Houston my wife had already talked 3 people on the phone and 1 person in the chat we land at 10:30 p.m. Im 2 a head seeing we are from Texas everything went fine till they said they run your credit not mine you mine is not that good but its also not bad either she wont rent me a car . No One mentioned ANYTHING about that when my wife talked to them earlier in the day before we left Houston she even put the money in the bank to cover the rental. Still no car the Manger Dude was rude and interrupting me and being a total Dick . We left went next door to another rent car place next door and got a BETTER car for 100.00 cheaper with no problem so as to me i will NEVER use this place when I come back to San Diego (and its our first time to California) only came here to see the Hans Zimmer Live Tour
We needed a car to get around the San Diego area on our week-long vacation. We loved being able to pick out our own car. We were able to get a Toyota which was similar to our own car and thus we didnt have to learn lots of new tricks, like where are the lights?, which side is the gas tank and how do we open the gas tank door?... etc. The clerk at the rental desk was helpful and clear in giving us directions to find our rental car. The check out of the car was smooth and courteous. The car was clean and ready for use. We appreciated that it had the manual for the car in the glove compartment. The car performed just as we would have expected and we had NO SURPRISES! The return went as smoothly as the checking out process. We were treated with respect and all employees were clearly helpful and friendly. All this furthers our determination to always rent from Hertz and get the customer service that we expect and pay for.
