Scott and the team at A Street Auto are incredible. No one likes going to auto body shops, and theres a reputation that you will get overcharged for labor. That couldnt be further from the truth with this business.I got an oil change and car detail that left my car looking AMAZING. This place saved me a bunch of money! The dealership told me I needed to replace my entire brake light assembly ($300+ to fix). They said it was melted and they couldn’t put in a new bulb. Took the car here because they quoted me a better price for the repair. Chris decided to double check the problem before changing out the whole assembly and he saw that nothing was melted and it just needed a new brake light bulb put in which they only charged me $35 to do. They could have easily pulled one over on me but they are honest and professional and have integrity (plus they are really nice, too). This place is awesome!

Story begins with a flat tire. Not any ordinary flat tire. We foreign object on the road that resulted in total damage of the tire plus the wheel. A street auto team tried to repair the wheel, but due to safety reasons, they couldn’t patch it. Regardless, Scott worked diligently in trying to acquire a used wheel, but no luck. He ended up purchasing a new wheel and got two fresh tires within my budget. I dropped off my car in the AM, they got it fixed and detailed by 6pm. Really, a great team to work with and they kept in touch with me throughout the day. I highly recommend this place!

I recently purchased my first car from a faraway dealership (and made the incredible mistake of not having A Street inspect it before purchase). However, I was lucky enough to go in the following day for a second opinion. I’ll add that they were the only mechanic that would take a same-day appointment.Unfortunately, the car had a couple of flaws. Had I not brought the car in to A Street, I would’ve faced some major problems down the road. The car purchase posed some legality issues and Scott coached me through how to approach it with the dealership. Additionally, he went above and beyond by giving me after-market warranty options, legitimate dealership contacts, and more. The car’s exhaust piece was cracked (with a hefty $1,800 quote) but Scott and his team were able to weld together the piece flawlessly so I wouldn’t shell out unnecessary cash.I’m only thankful for the stressful situation because Scott and his team backed me up all the way and made the car good as new. I will only be bringing my car to A Street from now on, knowing my vehicle is in good hands. Forever grateful to you guys!P.s. When I was waiting on the repair, another stressed out couple came in with a damaged vehicle and a party to catch. I overheard Scott arranging a rental car service so they could make their event while their car was in repair. Seriously, these guys go above and beyond!

A Street Auto is a gem in San Diego. While my car was in transit from Hawaii to Dallas it developed a leak on the fuel line. I called around to multiple shops and none of them would touch the car because it was an 81 camaro and too old for their mechanics. The owner Scott called me back personally and assisted me with the process.I normally hate taking vehicles to a mechanic but I had no choice as it would not ship from the port and I was in Minnesota. He reassured me that he would look at it and only do what was needed in order to get the car running safely and capable of shipping.After fixing the problem he called me informed me the vehicle was ready to ship. The shipping company was unable to come out the same day and the vehicle would have to stay overnight. He secured my car on this lot over night so it was locked up and protected. He called and let me know the next day the car was good but the battery had died overnight.He continued to help me out by charging the battery and getting the car running again. The shipping company arrived and as they were going to load the car it proceeded to die. After looking under the hood again Scott noticed the car was out of fuel due to the previous leak. Scott paid for fuel from his own pocket to make sure the car could ship that day. He did not ask for it back and called and informed me that I may need to recalibrate my fuel gauge. But the car was able to ship.I owe the team at A Street auto a huge thank you recommend they to everyone in the area.It made the experience way better than it could have been.Thank you once again Scott.

I few years back i brought my jeep into A Street Auto. They are an honest family owned business that are very knowledgeable. With Scotts expertise and assistance I turned my jeep from a mall crawler to rock crawler. I had my entire jeep upgraded from a lift kit, control arms, body armor, custom fenders, custom gas tank, custom lights, new roll cage, new cooling system, seats at A Street Auto. This will be my body for the rest of my life. I highly recommend.

Hit and miss and miss. I might still use in a clutch but there’s another small shop in the area just north thats better, but they’re often backlogged (because they’re better). A Street keeps your vehicle sometimes incomprehensibly long, so UBER to/from pro service might be preferable. Good for small emergency type jobs. Their handling of a Major issue nearly ended in disaster.

This place is absolutely Awesome. I was in San Diego on vacation and one of my coolant hoses and pipes went bad. They were extremely busy (as you can see in the pictures) routing customers to other shops by phone but still took the time to help me. The owner, Scott said he built his business by helping people in need. My wife had an important meeting that day and because of their help we were able to make. JR is awesome he has been working there for a while. We need more people and shops like this in our world.

These guys are great. We went so san diego over the holiday weekend for a getaway then boom transmission problem. They took the time to check our car out even though they had alot going on there. Turns out we had to tow our car home so after a long weekend of stressing and trying to figure out what to do we rent a uhaul and a trailer to get back home. The shop helped us put our car on the secure trailer which they did not need to do. We made it home safe thanks to these awesome guys for all theyre help and surrport. Its hard to find good mechanics now adays and these guys deserve 10 stars in my opinion.

Ive been through a few San Diego mechanics, and A Street Auto is the only place I trust my car. Scott Ward is always honest with what your car needs. He never pushes you to do unnecessary repairs and even shops around for you to find good prices on parts.

I called on Monday, brought my car in Wednesday and it was done the same day!Scott was great. He plugged up my coolant leak, let me know what would be the cheapest yet efficient way for me to go, all at a reasonable price that didn’t break my pocketsI highly recommend.

So I had to get a smog and during the process of getting a smog the smog tester noticed that my splash guard was loose and dragging. I work and live downtown and the closest place was A Street Auto Service. I asked if someone could help me screw the shield back in or replace it and Scott the owner helped me out by putting some new screws in. He was very quick and helpful and now my splash guard isn’t hanging anymore ! Definitely grateful.

So let me start off by saying thank you to A Street Automotive! My car started smoking right in front of the shop so I pulled over freaking out!! They immediately came over and started checking it out. I ended up leaving it there for the night so they could check it out better the next day. Turns out,rear ending a car can do some damage! Haha. I wish I would have taken my car here years ago....Scott really takes customer service above and beyond what any other auto repair shop would bother doing. I took my car in to get a brake job and he noticed my brake light was off just to find out someone really messed up the wiring to my brakes.In the end he made sure I wouldnt just drive off like that....Your a good man Charlie Brown lol. Great shop, very helpful. I had a pesky problem with my check engine light on my 2004 Xterra. Scott & his guys kept solving each issue that came up until we got it turned off. Scott gave me great advice to help me extend my registration. Very reasonable rates & friendly service.

Ive been taking my cars to Scott and his team for 6+ years now and highly recommend their work. They are fair, honest, affordable (I imagine Ive saved $1Ks over the years coming here instead of a name-brand shop), locally / family owned, and a pleasure to do business with. On multiple occasions Scott has gone out of his way to help me out and keep costs down. Just recently we were having a tough time passing a smog test and over the course of several weeks, a dozen phone calls and 5+ re-tests, it passed. No added charges for the extra work. Above and beyond doesnt even begin to describe it! I was in a really weird situation where I had to get an out-of-state-compliant inspection while in California. I didnt know where to start, but they worked with me to create a solution from scratch, even though it involved a lot of patience on their end. They take total care of their customers, from the moment you arrive to the moment they make sure you back into the street safely on your way out. They offered me an incredible value for my inspection and even made up a form specifically for me based on the sample inspection form I had from out of state, and told me to follow up if there were any issues with my state. On top of that, everyone I encountered was professional, friendly, and seemed to really take pride in their work (they know their stuff) and in the team they were a part of. As long as Im in California, this is where Ill be going for anything I need for my vehicle, because I know theyll go beyond expectations or obligations to make sure I get what I need. Im confident this is the best choice in San Diego.

I called and spoke with Linda and she had me come right over to check to see if I had an issue with my battery or my alternator. This was at 3 PM in the afternoon and by 4 PM they had analyzed it and called me back by 5 PM to come pick up the car with a new battery! Unbelievable service! Everyone was so friendly. They’re honest and upfront on whatever issue you have, give you a clear timeline on the repairs, and get it done properly. I especially want to give a shout out to Scott, who took the time to do a test drive with me to try to work out the problem with my suspension, fixed the issue in a timely manner, and gave a very fair price for it too. Today I took my car in for an issue with my headlight and he fixed it on the spot, explained what was going on, and didn’t charge me anything. Scott, the owner, took excellent care of me. He took the time to listen fully to my problem and resolve the issue in a timely manner. My particular issue could have been solved a number of ways, and he walked me through the various options, and we both decided to go the route that was most cost effective as my issue was not a serious concern integral to the mechanics of the car. Amazing service and kindness. My daughter and I were down from LA and the car engine light came on in flashing mode. Im thinking were stuck until Monday. We limp the car into A Street Auto on Saturday around noon and tell Scott our story. My daughter has a babysitter job that evening and she asked Scott if shell make it in time. He says she will. These guys are all pros. Every time I went there I felt like I was with family. Excellent customer service, they do get busy, but you get great prices, and above and beyond customer service. They dont mess around and arent trying to over sell you things you dont need like other places. They tell you the levels of where your vehicle is at and they keep an eye on things but they keep you in he loop the whole time. When my green Jeep got rear ended they took care of it all and left it just as good as before. Not one complaint since Ive been there so I highly recommend this shop.

I am so glad I found A Street Auto!! What an amazing experience.I moved to San Diego in 2011. I found myself in a real predicament, being not car savvy, ( I didnt trust mechanics) I needed to get some major work done on my car. I checked out a lot of places, but as Ive usually found, most of them gave me the run around. When I went into A Street Auto (just by chance) I was amazed at the honest no baloney way Scott told me what was wrong with my car. He did not make it sound worse than it was, but he told me exactly what was wrong, what we had to do right away and what could wait a little. I so appreciated his candid analysis, that I went ahead with the work. I was not disappointed at all. The work was finished when he said it would be, and the price was exactly the price he had quoted me. I found his sons that work for him to be just as honest and professional in their work also.I have since recommended my mom and several friends and they have been glad for the referral. I recommend the whole team at A Street Auto highly I would not go anywhere else.

The team at A Street Auto is fantastic. I was in San Diego from out of town and had to have a headlight bulb replaced ... they did it on my time scale, were super nice, got me a better quality but not super expensive bulb, and charged me a VERY reasonable rate. Once that was done and I’d paid, something went wrong with my car seat, so they spent another 30 minutes diagnosing and fixing that, and when I asked what I owed them for the work, Scott said nothing! I pushed a little and still he didn’t charge me. I’m tempted to make the 2-hour drive down here next time I have a car issue!! Really great outfit, I highly recommend.

Great work from their team. My husband and I greatly appreciated their time they took to explain in detail and show us exactly what would be done. It helped us to understand the cost breakdown but also how the car is running. When we asked if they could check a few other things out on our 2000 NB Miata, they didnt hesitate or say no. I took my 2001 Daewoo in because I was being thrown around on the streets and freeways. Originally another mechanic told me that I just needed front control arms or ball joints. And that it wasnt something I needed right away!! However, when the mechanics at A Street Auto Service looked at the suspension they told me I was driving a death trap vehicle!!! Things were frozen and worn out and my suspension safety was totally a danger to myself and other drivers. A Street Auto completely fixed my front in suspension and few other things that needed immediate attention. The fellows there are very friendly and efficient. I recommend their service to everyone. They are not like most mechanics taking advantage of women clients and their prices are AMAZING!!! If youd like they will give you the old parts - proof that the job has been completed and that the part (s) itself needed to be replaced. I live in Los Angeles and the drive is well worth with it to receive such great service.I just cannot thank you enough for repairing my car and making me be a safe car on the road again!!!Thank You So Much.....

I would absolutely suggest A Street Auto Service to anyone in the area! The team is extremely nice, knowledgeable, and honest. My car had a ticking noise that wasnt easy to replicate. Not being knowledgeable about cars myself, I wasnt really sure what to expect. These guys are amazing! I drove in from LA this weekend and had to promptly find a shop to look at the noise my car was making during my whole drive down to SD. I truly cant say enough great things about the owner, Scott and his team. Scott truly went above and beyond to help me when I needed new brakes. BMW quoted me almost $1000 more for the same service. I was by the airport when I started my engine and the Check Engine started flashing at me. I pulled into another auto shop and they were very rude when I walked in and asked if it was possible to have it fixed before the weekend was over because I had to drive home to Orange County. So I left and went to A Street.They ran the diagnostic and found a cylinder misfire problem. They told me I could leave the car with them and at the earliest it would be done was the next day unless they found something more serious than just a bad coil. I left my car with them and they referred me to a local auto rental shop.Got the call the next day that my car was ready. They didnt charge me for the diagnostic (which usually cost about $70 anywhere else) and only charged me for the part and labor. They also gave me the $20 that they had found under my seat. Not totally important, but I think it just shows the type of character these guys have.Before I left, they reminded me that Im due for a spark plug check in a few thousand miles and to make sure I get my oil changed soon. Very very good service. I was very happy with them. Will definitely come back if I need work done on the car while Im in the area.

I visited SD in April, sorry for the late review. I hit an object on the road from driving..and it tore the plastic piece off the bottom of my car. I couldnt drive it while it was dragging on the floor. Looked up the closest shop hoping it wouldnt be too expensive to fix, and was lucky to run into these fellas. They fixed it. Quickly. Gave me their honest feedback and recommendations and charged me nada! It was a really big relief and weight off my shoulders. Thank you SO much. When I move to SD, you guys will def be my favorite and possibly only spot.

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Scott the owner and his son are without a doubt the most straightforward and honest mechanics I have ever been to. They figured out a problem with my car that other mechanics couldnt give me an exact answer for. My car was throwing a code for a faulty ignition coil, which other mechanics couldnt seem to fix. Through due diligence Scott and his son figured out the problem was actually a damaged flex plate and the misfire was actually caused my a bad reading from the crank position sensor, even though the computer was sending the wrong code for a faulty ignition coil. Not only did they give me a very reasonable diagnostic rate but also gave me different repair options that were budget friendly, including the option to source a used flywheel to help save me some money. Scott was great with follow up and keeping me informed throughout the entire process. Honestly, I was lucky to find them and will never go any other mechanic as long as I live in San Diego.

These guys are the best. Wont screw you over with prices (if you dont believe me, take your car to a couple of other shops and compare the estimates) and are very friendly and accommodating. During my last trip to the shop I was out of town, and so after they finished the work they drove my car to my apartment so it was waiting for me when I got home from the airport. I cant recommend these guys highly enough. Ask for Scott or Mike and tell them Jacob sent you!

My car had an issue with my front end. It was 4:30 on a Friday afternoon and I was 100 miles from home. After being sent away from a Chrysler Dealership as I was told there was no one available to look at my car, a lot guy referred me to his friend Scott Ward at A Street Auto in Kerney Mesa. By this time, I was panicked my front tire was going to fall off or worse, be stuck on the side of the road when this establishment waited for me to arrive and help me! Had my breaks done 4 mths ago by another shop but had an annoying squeezing every time I stepped on the breaks. Stooped in and explained the problem I was having. First thing they advised me was 2 go back n have the previous shop recheck the brakes. Said they did free break inspections and If i was not satisfied, i could come back n have them do a free brake inspection.I thought they were very patient in answering all my questions and i found them 2 b upfront and honest. I would definitely b back and recommend A Street Auto Service 2 anyone looking 4 and honest n upfront auto service which is rare for a downtown shop.

I love A St Auto. I was debating whether I should donate my old VW beetle from college to charity since the quotes for repairs were so high from other shops. Scott was able to correctly diagnose the problem at a fair price. Now my old VW is running like new. I wouldn’t take my car anywhere else.

I had a problem with my cars transmission, where randomly sometimes it would not shift into higher gears (this was problematic when in traffic, the traffic eases and everyone speeds up...). I took it to A Street Auto and was greeted in a professional, welcoming manner. They performed (literally days of) diagnostics and found it was probably a problem with a plate in the transmission. Easily (confirmed by internet search) they could have told me the only solution was to replace the transmission (5k +). Instead they offered to attempt to replace the plate. Ultimately, they were able to find the parts and fix the problem at a significant discount from replacement. Without a car, they paid for (!!!) a rental car at no expense to me to lessen my inconvenience. This has got to be the best, most professional, and honest auto shop in SD, if not Southern California. I completely recommend this for any car problems!

Either incompetent or dishonest; review after two years with the car they inspected for me.My initial review:I took a used vehicle I was thinking about purchasing to this shop to be inspected. I could tell by the report they gave me and by my interactions with them that they did a thorough job and gave me my moneys worth. They communicated well, made an effort to work with my schedule, and seemed very professional overall. Ill be sure to come back next time I need work done on a vehicle.Updated review:Unfortunately my initial good impression didnt hold up.I dont know exactly what kind of inspection they did, and I cant remember what they told me that convinced me that they had done a good job, but as Ive worked on my car Ive discovered issues that should have been obvious to any competent mechanic doing anything more than a cursory inspection.Anyone who put the car on a lift would have seen the massive ( wide, long) gash in the underside of the left body panels. They would have wondered if such a huge gash might have been caused by hopping a curb and have inspected the front left wheel and suspension for damage. They would have then seen obvious deformation in the front left wheel, damage severe enough to warrant replacing the wheel. and correctly guessed that, indeed, the car had been driven into and over a curb. Having seen such abuse to the wheel, they would have wondered if the suspension and frame had been damaged by the same impact, and would have noticed that the subframe where the strut mounts had been significantly deformed (pushed about 1-2 cm upwards).I dont know if they put the car on the lift or even looked at the undercarriage, but an oversight like this is pretty damning.Another complaint, relatively minor but of note: They credited me for $80 or so of auto labor (the cost of the inspection), which I used for a simple oil change (I was moving, no sense saving it for real work). I scheduled the oil change and let them know that my time slot was narrow. They said theyd do it in that time frame, but I ended up waiting around for over an hour after they said it would be finished. They hadnt even started when I came at the scheduled pick-up time.

STAY AWAY, THEY NEVER CALL YOU BACK, ALWAYS HAVE A MILLION THINGS THAT COULD BE WRONG WITH YOUR CAR BUT CANT FIX IT, THEY HAVE NO CLUE. DROP YOUR CAR OFF AT 7:30 AND THEY MAY LOOK AT IT BY 3:00 PM AND TELL YOU THEY HAVE TO KEEP IT OVER NIGHT. STAY AWAY! I EVENTUALITY BROUGHT IT TO A FORD DEALER AND THEY FIXED THE CAR CORRECTLY, I ALSO BROUGHT IT IN FOR A LOUD NOISE FROM THE ENGINE WHICH THEY CLAIMED WAS COMMON ON MY CAR FROM THE POWER STEERING, WELL GUESS WHAT........IT WAS ACTUALLY A PULLEY. GOOD THING I ONLY PAID THEM UNDER A HUNDRED FOR THAT WRONG ASSESSMENT AND HAD THE DEALER FIX IT RIGHT. AND OH YEA....I BROUGHT MY CAR IN AT 8:00 AM AND IT WAS BACK BY NOON....NOT THE NEXT DAY! SINCE THE CHANGE IN OWNERSHIP THESE GUYS HAVE LET THIS SHOP GO TO THE DUMP.

I was very impressed with the quality of work at A Street Auto. Very professional and hardworking, as well as friendly. I needed routine oil and brakes as well as some minor dings...ect. Being that I work down town, I was able to drop of and pick up my car close to work and they went above and beyond normal places, very catering to their customers. I am making this my 1st choice for car repairs, big and small. My windsheild looks great

Im not one to write many reviews, but Scott from A Street Auto is awesome and I wont take my cars anywhere else.I have an older CRV that I took to two different mechanics. One made it worse, the other just couldnt figure it out. I took it over to A Street Auto and Scott had it fixed in a couple hours and a fraction of what the other two mechanics charged me.I also have an Audi where I had it looked at by another mechanic to replace both sets of rotors. Scott and his team replaced the front rotors and breaks, and were honest that the back ones didnt need them. That saved me close to a thousand bucks. Thanks Scott and everyone at A Street. You guys are the best.

They were able to smog my car, it is a newer car that was having trouble passing smog. They were able to figure out that it had to do with a radio system I had put in and they had messed up a couple technical things with the system. They were able to fix the problem and I passed smog that day. So great. I was trying to pass for months and no other place could figure out why my newer Audi wasnt passing smog. I was so relieved and grateful for the highly skilled guys at A Street.

I had a weird metric threaded plug that I needed to fill a port in an exhaust pipe that I ran all over CA trying to find for an entire morning. At my wits end we called Major Muffler asking if they could just weld the hole shut and they said, yea bring it in well do it now for $20. I was like ok! ill be there in 10 mins. I was so relieved that I found someone that could help because i couldnt run my bike without it. When i showed up, they not only didnt have to weld the hole shut, but they had the 20mm metric pipe fitting that i needed and they hooked it up for FREE. What an amazing shop. Go here. What a great bunch of people, I brought in my car to have it looked up because of a check engine light, another shop wanted to charge me $175 just to read the codes, I was a bit taken back, as this is something that most shops would be happy to do so they can get your business, so I took my car here after calling and talking to a really nice gentelman on the phone, they read the code, it was just a sensor thank god!, but they charged me nothing to read the code, happy customer once again, thanks.

I was referred to Scott at A Street after my old Jeep CJ7 failed smog for the second time. The PO had upgraded the carburetor to a fuel in jection system and it needed to be sorted out. Scott took on the project with optimism and assured me he would be able to remedy the issue. To keep costs down, he worked on the vehicle ont he side and after spending manhy long hours trouble shooting the problem and even calling the manufacturer of the fuel injection, he was able to get it to pass smog.Scott would call me regularly to give me updates and tell me what was going on. This is rare inthis day and age and I really appreciateed the personal touch. I will keep coming back.

Ive been going to A Street Auto for seven years and I have owned many different cars in seven years. They are champs and have maintained every one of them without fail. Scott is a consumate gentleman and his staff is no less. Im usually the type of person who just takes their car to the dealership and then trades it in after a year or two. Now, Im not that guy. Im the guy who writes great reviews about a downtown mechanic online. Im that guy now.

This place is the best one I found in downtown.

There was a day about a month ago I was downtown and my starter was not working. I was stuck and need help. I was expecting a downtown shop to be expensive or overpriced, but the guys at A Street were super fair. They even went out of their way to help get me going without adding on a bunch of fees. If you need a shop and are in this area or even if you dont live in this area, its worth the drive. I was in a tight spot and they could have charged me and I would have had to pay it because I was stuck downtown and would have been towed, but they did not overcharge or take advantage of my situation. A Street earned my respect and got a future customer.
