I finished my first week today, and I am very happy with the training and treatment at Ohana Academy. The beginner classes are perfect for people with 0 MMA experience like myself. On top of that, I got a $50 discount for my first month. I recommend Ohana for peole looking to start training with no experience.

Such a great place for any age. All the staff members are always smiling and are super helpful and careful with the kiddos. This is my sons 1st month and he loves it. I’ve trained at many gyms all over this country off and on for over a decade now. I’ve never came across one as welcoming and attentive as Ohana Academy. From the moment I stepped into the doors - the manager Gabe made sure I was taken care of and setup with what I needed to train that same day. They were able to determine my skill level and place me in the proper classes. The classes were well instructed by very skilled coaches. The fellow students were all courteous and welcoming to me as a new member. I look forward to going back again to learn new skills, workout, and make friends. The academy name (Ohana) matches the feeling you get while there - like you’re truly apart of their family.

The staff is great. The atmosphere is inviting. My kids love the coaches. Very spacious and clean. Lots of equipment and classes so i dont have to have multiple gym memberships.

I set up an appointment with i believe Jason. He chose the day and time! I even recieved a confirmation text for the appointment time. I left work early and made it to ohana only to see that he was not there! One of the other coaches let me know that he was at a tournament but he should be showing up as the appointment was confirmed. He never showed nor did he reach out to me about this situation! I myself still wanted to get my daughter signed up but I have not been able to speak with anyone despite leaving multiple messages since then.I had to choose a different academy! Very unprofessional!!!!

We could not have selected a better group of coaches and professors for my family. Ohana Academy is, above all else, a family oriented Jiu Jitsu establishment. First and foremost I have been training here for over 2 months. The best way I can describe this place without sounding like a cheerleader is that it very much lives up to its namesake. I just started training here at Ohana- West and let me say the environment is incredible! Walking in I was nervous, but was welcomed with open arms. You are treated like family the moment you step in the door! I fell in love with the training that same day. I am recommending to everyone interested in training!

Today will mark the eighth day in a row that myself and my two boys (ages 7 and 4.5) have been attending classes at Ohana in Alamo Heights. Come for the challenge, stay for the instructors. Youll be greeted by the caring and friendly Coach Bobby who will show you around and answer any question you may have; you will meet Coach Gabe, known as Professor (I am not sure how he got that name, though I intend to ask) who actively resides with firm affection over his jiu jitsu students, demanding the best and providing the training necessary to achieve the best. Coach Washington is a favorite among the very young students as well as us older ones as he guides you through the skills of Muay Thai and even in his corrections there is apparent encouragement. My only complaint is that I will eventually move and no longer get to be a part of the family of athletes here at Ohana. If ten stars were a grading option, that is what I would choose. One, Two, Three: OHANA.

I LOVE THIS PLACE. I dont normally rate and review unless it is excellent or terrible lol. This place, from the students to the professors and even the littles, just fantastic. They value the Ohana mentality and being a Pacific Islander, it means a lot, and I felt at home here. to the school-- Professor Bobby has a program for the white belts in which he works on technic in a way that helps you not only understand but also get muscle memory. i have so much to say about the level of excellence, but i will end it with this, if you have a desire to better yourself physically and mentally while also learning self defense, GO HERE. thank you and Aloha!

I signed up about a month ago and by far the best thing I ever did for the mind and body, but more importantly the family in that house of Ohana Academy is what is all about and where it starts. Everyone there from the top with the owner to the trainers/instructors who are VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE and down to the students like my self who knew nothing about this gym or training style but they welcomed me in like they knew me Coach Gabe Coach Bobby the whole team is AWESOME. Love this place! Signed up recently, and Ive been there every day since. Coach Gabe has been very helpful, and all of the coaches have been helpful and welcoming. The other students as well! The beginning classes are great, and if you attend the other classes as a beginner both the coaches and the other students help you acclimate to the more difficult classes. Ive visited several martial arts places throughout my life, and Ohana has everything I look for. Talented coaches, friendly students of all levels, fair pricing, and you have to work for what you want. The worst thing a gym can do is reward people with belts or rankings they havent earned. If youre looking for easy goals then you shouldnt be doing martial arts in the first place. No shortcuts, only hard work. They have classes all day almost every day, so there is always something to do. Thanks guys!

My son has been attending classes here for a few months now and I have to say, we are truly impressed! Not only by all of the coaches and staff, but even the other families and children. From day one, the children in the class immediately welcomed my son. There are no cliques here. Everyone is so friendly, warm and welcoming! It truly does have a family feel to it. Ive never seen my 6-year old more excited about an activity! We are brand-new to the academy, but she loves the class and coaches so much that she has begged me to rearrange our afternoons to allow her to take more classes. I love seeing how the coaches bring out her confidence, grit, and character!

I recently started Jujitsu classes at Ohana. I was happy to learn that they have beginner classes that teach you the basics before you start rolling with the seasoned veterans. Everyone here is very supportive and friendly and always willing to help if you have questions.It’s also a great workout (which I need). I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and plan to stay for a long time.

I brought my daughter to Ohana just as a learning process and everyone was so friendly from the beginning. The coaches are great with the little ones and keep the training at an adequate level of them. So far Im very happy and my daughter loves it.

My child has been going a little over 1 yr, and loves this school. They take their time to make the martial arts an all around experience, and that the kids can take their lessons of discipline, honor, integrity etc. forward in their every day lives.

The adult classes are a waste of time, if I wanted to hit a heavy bag for an hour, I could go to another gym. These guys only care about getting you to sign up to secure their revenue and after that, you are just another number. Ive been to multiple gyms across the country and this one was by far the worst. All the 5 star reviews are incentivized by the gym itself for a small discount.

This place is phenomenal! For just starting out they realize my motivation and are completely supportive of my goals. They are understanding and patient in their ability to approach each individual one on one even when it’s in a group setting. I made a great decision in choosing this place and I recommend it to anyone, no matter what goals you plan to achieve in life. It’s great discipline and I myself know I will only go up from here.

I rate four stars because while Ohana was a place that we did not end up staying long term, professionally-this business is ran very well. When I had concerns and or comments to make I was not disrespected by the manager nor spoken down to for voicing my concerns. He listened attentively and did his best to work with my situation.Unfortunately in our case, somethings took place that I wasn’t very appreciative of and when water gets too muddy I find it best to cut ties. However that doesn’t mean that I think badly of Ohana. I think if your child really finds a love for bjj than this is definitely your place.

First time for my son and it went great! Couldnt believe how friendly everyone was from the staff and other parents. I cant wait to see how he progresses.

My Husband wanted something that He and my 7yr old could do together so we decided to give Ohana Academy a try! Since that time they have fallen in love with the sport of jujitsu and cant get enough. Three years in and now my 4 yr old daughter, who started this summer loves it just as much as the boys.We have noticed a positive change in both our children since they have been on the mats. My 7yr old who is an introvert has come out of his shell and is more comfortable in social settings. My 4yr old, who is an extrovert has benefited from the structure that Ohana provides in that it helped better prepare her for pre-kWe love that our children are learning the discipline of jujitsu but the overall character development that the coaches focus on is incredible! This dojo has a great culture. My two sons have been attending Ohana for about a month now and they love it. The coaches are great role models. They patiently instruct, encourage, and challenge while keeping the training fun. During the practice sessions, the coaches get around to providing individual attention.On the business side of the house, the prices are affordable and the management has been unquestionably straightforward.

Just started going there and have had a blast training so far! Gabe and the other teachers were very friendly and eager to get me trying new things. Love the intensity. I came in with a small amount of experience but that wasnt a problem. All levels of experience are welcome. Its a great workout and way to relieve some stress!

Ohana Academy is a great place for all levels, Im 19 and a beginner in the adult classes, and I love it! The professors have soo much patience taking you step by step through everything making sure you really understand. Everyone is super supportive. And willing to help any and all ways they can, including the other students. I truly enjoy going, its a great workout, they really push you. I would recommend to all levels both guys and girls. It really is like family there.

I travel all over the country for missionary work, and love to visit academies as I go! I’ve been to over 100+ academies, and this one blew my mind!! What’s great? First, the atmosphere. Nobody has egos, and everyone is clearly a family. Next, the talent. Everybody here is on an amazing level. There fighters were some of the best I’ve seen, but they all had wonderful control. Basically they’re killers, not trying to kill you haha. But seriously, it’s the perfect balance of getting better, but not having to worried about getting hurt or injuries. Every match I had ended with smiling and laughing, and respect from the challenges. And last, the leadership. The coaches are phenomenal and very warm and welcoming. They clearly care about their students, their well being, safety, but at the same time push you to bring out your best. You can’t have a solid ship without a solid captain, and they are definitely here. It doesn’t matter if it’s your first day ever, or your a seasoned veteran, you WILL FIT IN HERE! Amazing academy- but seriously just drop in and see it for yourself!

My 12 year-old daughter has been going to Ohana for a year and she loves it. All the coaches are great with the kids and there are even classes for kids that want to pursue the competitive side of Jiu Jitsu. If you want your child to be introduced to martial arts, I wouldnt hesitate to give Ohana a call. They are truly world class. The adult classes look great too, I am considering doing it myself.

All the coaches here are excellent instructors and masters of their craft. Their management is well run and their pricing is fair and affordable. Their adult classes are intense, educational, and fun. Everybody is included on the mats. No matter your skill level or body type everybody wants you to succeed and get better.

Ive been to numerous martial arts gyms around the world, but I never studied Brazilian Jiu Jitsu...shame on me. Coming to Ohana Academy is a great experience! I have been here for over six months. Everything you want in a gym (clean, friendly, no egos, patient and high caliber instruction). You can expect to warm up at the start of class, learn technique, practice, learn technique, practice, then apply at your desired intensity. You basically get out of it what you put into it. Roll once a week or 10 times a week..same price. Every blue belt and above has been extremely helpful and truly want you to succeed. Be honest, open, no ego and prepared to learn/listen. I was recently in town for a few weeks and decided while in the area I’d check out some local gyms. I’m very grateful I found Ohana MMA on jonesmaltsberger. The drop in classes I took part in were well organized and very well taught! It’s always great to train with anyone that’s passionate about Jiu jitsu but I didn’t expect to be in a class with so many black belts, Not to mention an 8x world champ! This academy is as legit as it gets!

This place is AWESOME!!! Gabriel has treated us like royalty, given us so much information and suggestions for our daughter. The energy here is amazing! Our daughter is having her first experience with martial arts here and we couldnt ask for a better first impression. The price is reasonable and a uniform is included in registration. The even have a champion kick boxer, mua Thai fighter, from Brazil. He is phenomenal!!!! If I could give this place 10 stars I would!!!.

My grandson has been taking classes for about eight months, Coach Manny and Coach Blue both do an outstanding job of training these young kids. On September 6 Coach Manny and Coach Blue change the program around even getting the adults involved on the mat with the children. My grandson loved it thanks

Not a bad academy... not a very well run business. Try not to give them your credit card information... pay cash or check in full. Charged my card 3 times after we agreed my membership ended...it eventually worked out and I was reimbursed some of my money. Other than that... the instruction was great and so was the workout.
