AC System stopped cooling. Call Arctic Heating & Air Conditioning in Salisbury, MD. Service tech arrived and said the system need a 45/5 dual start capacitor and 3 lbs of freon. Charged $175 to replace the capacitor, the same capacitor can be purchased at Home Depot for less than $15 retail. Took literally 2 minutes to troubleshoot capacitor and to change it out. Charged $497 to install 3 lbs of freon (R-22 freon can be purchased retail for $15-$20/lb) and was charge a $99 service fee. Was at my property less than an hour. $771 total charge for approximately $75 in parts (freon plus the capacitor) and the balance for an hour of labor and the drive over to my place in the city of Salisbury. I understand the company needs to mark up the parts and make a reasonable profit margin but to charge $771 for the work that was completed feels way over charged. We previously had a 4 ton heat pump unit that attempted to heat and cool my entire 2 story house. My upstairs level was always cold in the winter and hot in the summer. My old out of warranty heat pump developed a severe leak and would cost me $3,000 to fix. Instead of investing that money into an out of warranty system, I decided to change my entire HVAC setup. I decided to split my upstairs and downstairs into two separate units and go with a 2 brand new Lennox systems. I called Arctic and several other companies to come out and bid on my job. Chad came out from Arctic and gave me an estimate. He was very friendly and professional. After receiving multiple proposals from other companies, Arctic came in over a $1,000 cheaper than the next lowest proposal and I was getting better SEER rated equipment from them than the other company. After calling Chad back and committing to his proposal, he told me that he had been thinking about my job and that he could save me even more money. Turns out he could! He was able to modify a configuration that saved me nearly $800 more. I was now $1800 lower than any other proposal. Chad went above and beyond to help us out but it gets better. I paid my deposit to get my work completed but there was a 3 week wait roughly until my new system could be installed. Chad set me up with a free service to check my old unit and add any fluids that were leaking out to hold us over until the install date arrived. Once the install date came, everything went smoothly and Ive been enjoying my nice warm upstairs ever since. Thank you Arctic Heating and Air and also thank you Chad.
